We’re talking profit maths, property managers, emergency funds, what “safety net” really means, and the truth about whether you could even move back in if things went sideways. Then it gets very spicy with a DM that asks: should you give your partner your banking password? TL;DR We describe the persona selection model (PSM): the idea that LLMs learn to simulate diverse characters during pre-training, and post-training elicits and refines a particular such Assistant persona. Interactions with an AI assistant are then well-understood as being interactions with the Assistant—something roughly like a character in an LLM-generated story. We survey empirical behavioral, generalization, and interpretability-based evidence for PSM. PSM has consequences for AI development, such as recommending anthropomorphic reasoning about AI psychology and introduction of positive AI archetypes into training data. An important open question is how exhaustive PSM is, especially whether there might be sources of agency external to the Assistant persona, and how this might change in the future. Introduction What sort of thing is a modern AI assistant? One perspective holds that they are shallow, rigid systems that narrowly pattern-match user inputs to training data. Another perspective regards AI systems as alien creatures with learned goals, behaviors, and patterns of thought that are fundamentally inscrutable to us. A third option is to anthropomorphize AIs and regard them as something like a digital human. Developing good mental models for AI systems is important for predicting and controlling their behaviors. Have you been waiting to start investing because you’re scared you’ll get it wrong? This week’s Money Diarist started with a hot stock tip from her Dad and then it… didn’t perform. Instead of spiralling, she levelled up. She stopped chasing individual shares and started understanding what she was actually buying. She started automating her investing so emotions weren’t running the show (and she wasn't checking her app every 5 minutes). Now at 32, she has around $100,000 in shares, another $100,000 sitting in her offset, and roughly $140,000 in super... on a regular salary This ep is proof that investing does not reward perfection. Awareness of attachment styles in relationships is crucial for maintaining healthy, sustainable relationships. Once you are aware of your attachment styles in relationships, you will begin to see areas where you may need healing. Understanding Attachment Styles and Anxiety Understanding how you relate to others is deeply influenced by your attachment style. This concept, rooted in early life, plays a pivotal role in how you experience relationships today. The Root of Attachment Styles Attachment styles begin to form during the first three years of life when the brain and nervous system are most malleable. Types of Attachment Styles There are several types of attachment styles to consider: Secure Attachment: Developed through consistently supportive caregiving, resulting in trusting and balanced relationships. Anxious Attachment: Arises when caregivers are unpredictable, leading to worry about relationships being untrustworthy or unstable. Avoidant Attachment: Occurs when a caregiver is consistently dismissive or unavailable, causing an emotional distance in adult relationships. Disorganized Attachment: Results from trauma or inconsistent caregiving, creating confusion and fear around intimacy. The Impact of Anxiety Attachment styles are not merely theoretical; they are intricately connected to anxiety levels in relationships. Anxious and avoidant tendencies can manifest through fear of abandonment or difficulty with closeness and vulnerability. Pathways to Healing and Establishing Secure Attachment Awareness is the primary step in transforming your attachment style. Here are some methods to guide your journey: Therapy and Professional Support: Engaging in therapy, especially when informed by attachment theory, can provide profound insights and tools for change. Techniques such as Somatic Experiencing or neurofeedback can aid in reconditioning the nervous system. Grief and Story Work: Unprocessed grief from childhood needs acknowledgment. Story work in a supportive group setting can help reframe past narratives, providing healing and a sense of empowerment. Co-Regulation: Finding relationships where co-regulation is possible helps. Whether through therapy, a coach, or a supportive spouse, being with someone who models secure attachment can naturally elevate your own attachment style. Exploring Spiritual and Emotional Growth: Acknowledging Christianity's role can also promote healing. Secure faith and trust in Jesus as your savior can provide stability and comfort. The Crucial Role of Community Healing from attachment-related wounds is not a solitary journey. Awareness, Acknowledgement, and Hard Holy Work Acknowledging and working with your attachment style is a critical component of improving interpersonal relationships and managing anxiety. http://www.sherylkline.com/blogA business mentor of mine used to always say, “New level, new devil.”And it's true.Whether you are a rising leader or a seasoned executive, there is always going to be a bigger room, a higher stakes conversation, or a moment that rocks your confidence ... even if you consider yourself to have unshakable confidence. And if you're thinking, “I'm not really that confident ... I'm working on it,” this is for you too.Because high stakes moments do not just test what you know. They test how you manage your internal state while you're communicating which in turn impacts (greatly) how you're perceived. Here are a couple strategies that will help you not choke when the conversation really matters.Strategy 1: Stop Fighting Your Emotions ... They Will Always WinThe fastest way to spiral in a high stakes moment is to try to minimize your emotions. If you try to shove them away, ignore them, or talk yourself out of them, they usually get louder and therefore more distracting. Instead, acknowledge and validate the emotion ... without letting it drive the steering wheel. Here's one simple shift that is incredibly powerful:Save “I am” statements for the positive.A lot of people approach high stakes conversations saying things like:“I am nervous.”“I am scared.”“I am worried.”“I am concerned.”Those “I am” statements are labels which, if said enough times, impact your belief system AND your actions. Let's practice something different, what world-class performers and Olympians use to uplevel performance when under pressure.Use “I notice” for the negative.“I notice I feel nervous going into the meeting with my CEO/manager.”“I notice I'm worried about presenting to the board.”“I notice my body is tense.”“I notice my mind is racing.”This creates distance. It turns you into the observer instead of the judge. You are now on the bank of the stream looking at the rushing water rather than jumping into the middle of it and then trying to figure out how to get across. You have NOT self labeled and have time decide what's in your control that is most important to focus on.Acknowledgement defuses an emotion while denial adds oxygen to the fire.Strategy 2: Take Control of the ControllablesOne of the biggest drivers of anxiety and worry is uncertainty ... and specifically, uncertainty about what you cannot control such as:How will this be received? What will they think? How will it land? Will I gain buy-in?What you do control is what you do ... and how you choose to think. So the second strategy is to take control of the controllables. And there are two layers to this.Layer 1: Control What You Can About the Other PersonIf you are having a conversation with one or two people, one of the smartest things you can do is be mindful of their communication and negotiation style.Ask yourself:Are they direct and curt? Are they analytical? Are they people driven and relationship driven?Do they want bullet points and bottom line first ... or do they want context? This matters because a lot of leaders lose influence in high stakes moments by communicating in a style that is mismatched to the person in front of them.Get more in-depth perspective at https://www.sherylkline.com/blog/how-to-stay-grounded-when-the-stakes-are-highI'm cheering you on always. In this episode, Krissy Dilger of SRNA interviewed Dr. Vivien Xie regarding the significance of brain lesions in pediatric MOG antibody disease (MOGAD). Dr. Xie explained the autoimmune nature of MOGAD and the common occurrence of optic neuritis in young patients [00:01:28]. She described her study comparing children with optic neuritis who had brain lesions to those who did not, revealing that brain lesions often did not result in additional symptoms [00:02:41]. The findings suggested that brain lesions didn't significantly impact long-term outcomes, which may provide reassurance for patients with concerning MRI results [00:06:43]. Finally, they discussed the study's implications for better understanding different phenotypes of MOGAD and improving patient prognosis. Future research directions include more detailed MRI analysis and cognitive outcome assessment [00:12:29]. So who should actually pay on a date, and what are you meant to do when the bill arrives and someone suddenly gets a bit weird about it. This week’s Friday Drinks tackles a DM from someone newly back in the dating world who’s trying to work out whether she’s being too picky, or whether she’s just finally noticing the stuff she used to brush past, like the keeping score, the silence that feels like a test, and the little gold digger jokes that aren’t really jokes. We talk through what’s a fair preference, what’s an early warning sign, and how to be clear about your money values without turning dinner into a negotiation, and we asked the community what they think is normal early on because honestly the answers are revealing. We're also talking bridging loans, which always sound simple until you’re the one trying to buy before you sell and you realise how much of it comes down to timing, pressure, and having a plan if things don’t happen as quickly as you hoped. Victoria breaks down what they actually are, when they can make sense, and where the risk really sits, and as always we’ve got community money wins and broke tips that are both useful and unhinged at the same time. Send us a textDo land acknowledgements go too far in Catholic churches and Catholic prayer settings? In this video, Fr. Cristino — a Catholic priest with Indigenous heritage — offers a clear Catholic response to land acknowledgements, reconciliation, and prayer in Canada.Land acknowledgements are now common across Canada — in schools, public events, and increasingly in Catholic settings. Many Catholics are asking sincere questions: What do land acknowledgements actually mean? When are they helpful? And when do they risk losing their meaning or distracting from prayer and worship? In this thoughtful conversation, Fr. Cristino brings together his Catholic faith, Indigenous heritage, and pastoral experience to address these questions with clarity and charity. He explains the origins of land acknowledgements, the difference between traditional territory and unceded land, and why context and frequency matter. In this discussion, we explore:• What land acknowledgements are — and what they are not• Whether they imply guilt, shame, or victimhood• Why prayer must always remain central in Catholic gatherings• How Catholics can approach reconciliation without ideology• When land acknowledgements may be meaningful — and when they are notSupport the showSupport this show and get all future episodes by email atwww.kenandjanelle.com

If you’ve ever told yourself investing is something you’ll get to later, when you have more money, more brain space, or a slightly more put-together life… this episode is about to ruin all of those excuses in the best way. Today, the one and only Bec Syed has volunteered to jump into the Investing Diaries seat so we can get pervy on her first year as an investor (and yes, it’s exactly as Bec-coded as you’d expect). She walks us through how she went from not really understanding what investing even was, to building an almost $1,500 investment portfolio in the background of her very normal, but very chaotic life. (Yep, we're so proud of her too!) We get into what it actually looks like to invest when you don’t have heaps of spare cash, why round-ups and automation are a game changer, and how seeing tiny wins along the way completely changed how money feels. In her lovable Bec way she's honest about the confusion, the questionable decisions, the accidental wins, and the fact that she still very much learning as she goes. It’s proof that you don't have to have it all figured out when it comes to investing, you just need to start. And if Bec can do it… honestly, so can you. My guest is Matt Abrahams, lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business and a world expert in communication and public speaking. He explains how to speak with clarity and confidence and how to be more authentic in your communication in all settings: public, work, relationships, etc. He shares how to eliminate filler words ("umm"-ing), how to overcome stage fright and how to structure messages in a way that makes audiences remember the information. He also shares how to recover gracefully if you "blank out" on stage and simple drills and frameworks that dramatically improve spontaneity, storytelling and overall communication effectiveness. People of all ages and communication styles will benefit from the practical, evidence-supported protocols Matt shares to help you communicate with greater confidence and impact.
