Ascolteremo: Medley Musica Irlandese (Quin Pop), Geordie(Antica ballata scozzese), Celtic Music(Warrior), Faun(Federkleid), Celtic Music(Wolf Blood), Gaelic Storm(Irish Party Third Class), An Irish Pub Song(The Rumjacks), The Bonnie Banks of Lock Lomond (Ella Roberts), Greensleeves, Musica Celtica (La Danza delle Fate), The Gael(Celtic Scottish Pipe Drums Music - Albannach). Buon ascolto da Lorella Turchetto Michieli. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radio-nostra/support

First broadcast in 1994, Tent Show Radio is a one-hour public radio program created from the best live recordings from acclaimed musical acts who grace the Big Top Chautauqua stage each summer in beautiful Bayfield, WI. During intermission, host Michael Perry spins a story “from the backstage dressing room, with the one lonely little light bulb burning." Topics range from Mike’s battles with trees, to the behavior of rogue chickens, to the search for hope while stoking a wood stove in the darkness. Running 52 weeks a year, Tent Show Radio is broadcast on 31 listener supported radio stations across 6 states and on most podcast streaming platforms. "Tent Show Radio" is also available for streaming at www.tentshowradio.org. Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua was founded in 1986. The first show under canvas was the Nelson-Ferris Concert Company Production Riding the Wind, the story of Bayfield and Madeline Island. Since then Big Top has welcomed over 700,000 patrons to the grounds for 2,000+ concerts and shows and countless lectures, workshops and other unique events. In addition to the action on the tent grounds, Big Top has also broadcast its performances over the public radio airwaves since 1994 through Tent Show Radio, bringing Big Top concerts into living rooms across the country and around the world via internet streaming and podcasts. Our resident band, the Blue Canvas Orchestra, also tours to theaters and schools throughout the Upper Midwest. Over the course of 30 years we’ve touched millions of lives and created millions of memories with our eclectic blend of excellent musical offerings.

BRIAN L. HAYES, Geologist, Cook, Poet, Punster, writes poetry and plays bodhran while living in suburban Piedmont North Carolina, with his wife, a dog and two cats. An avid cook, who loves trying new recipes, he is the primary cook at home. A fan of Irish music he has played at a local session. His instrument of choice is the Bodhran. Being a chronic punster, he believes the shortest distance between two puns is a straight line. He believes that poetry is emotion and thought condensed and expressed as purely as a writer can. His past publications have included Windhover, Sandstorm, anthologies in India and Pakistan, including “Dreamers Never Die”, the United States, and a recently published chapbook, “Melancholy Love.” Website: Brian Hayes As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lisa-tomey/message
I’m going through one of my favorite 4th grade music lesson plans step by step and giving you the lesson plan to download and access to the lesson for remote learners!!! Yep, you get it all - one stop shop - except it’s FREE. The Scottish Highland Bagpipe is a part of this lesson, but so are other instruments such as the Celtic drum (Bodhran), fiddle, accordion, and the voice! This lesson reinforces elements of time signature, how rhythms and sounds send signals, dance, and history.
I read from Bodhran to body cavity. The word of the episode is "bodiless". dictionarypod@gmail.com Facebook Twitter Instagram Patreon 917-727-5757

Back in May, I knew my time would be tight this summer. So I decided to ask some of the Patrons of the Podcast if they had a Top 20 list of artists featured in the podcast. Annie Lorkowski was one of the first to respond with 20 songs. So today, I'm gonna share with you her top 20 list, in no particular order. As she said on Patreon, many are older songs because she was binge-listening from the beginning. And I found at least one that I actually don't have the music for. So we'll make do. * CELTIC PODCAST NEWS The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast comes out each and every week due to the generosity of people like you. I have been listening to podcasts for about as long as they’ve been around!) Anyway, I think you are almost singlehandedly responsible for my recent uptick in productivity. I spent a study-abroad semester in County Galway (lived in vacation cottages just outside of Spiddal, with Galway Bay in my sightline) lo these many years ago (1991, to be exactk ;) ) and have enjoyed Celtic music well before that. Day 59. This song was my mom's choice of instrumentation and style, Scottish Highlands with whistle, Bodhran drum, fiddle, and others. I listened to a few songs in this style to get a sense of the rhythm and structure, then tried to create something similar. Aside from the obvious bagpipe drone providing the underlying structure, I noticed the harmonies tended to resolve back to the dominant chord during the last bar rather than in the next phrase. For songs in a minor key, they typically use a minor scale with a major 6th. I also noticed that the 2nd note of the scale is rarely used, usually only during runs, but often the phrases jump from the 3rd to 1st. This was a fun chance to explore a very different style!
WE BANJO 3 is an Award-winning quartet from Galway, Ireland that deliver a ground breaking mixture of Irish Music and Old- Time American and Bluegrass influences with remarkable virtuosity and passion. Enda & Fergal Scahill and Martin & David Howley are among the most celebrated and distinguished young musicians in Ireland today. Their competitive success is unrivaled, Martin holding 7 All Ireland titles, Enda with 4, while Fergal and David hold All Ireland titles on Banjo, Fiddle, Bodhran and Guitar. The band has just released their first live album 'Live in Galway'. SCYTHIAN plays immigrant rock with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance rock concert experience. 'Old Tin Can', the band's latest, is Scythians tip of the cap to the tradition that inspired them. The album features Scythians take on favorite Celtic and Americana tunes that helped form their musical palette. Email us at garyandruth@celticmythpodshow.com, or call us using Speakpipe The First Shoots of Spring by James Olin Oden Samhain's March: A Winter's Journey James Olin Oden is singer/songwriter of Celtic and Americana music out of Raleigh, NC. Does it move the heart or cause the foot to stomp? If so, then James Olin Oden plays it. With me it's always been about what moves the heart. The songs I sing are compelling stories whose telling must be told over and over again. The stories range from dark acts that should not be forgotten to the silly revelries that we should never forsake. My hope is that as my heart is moved by the music so too may yours be moved. Sláinte Mhór...James James Olin Oden plays Vocals, Classical Guitar, Bodhran, Bones, & Whistles. We are privileged to bring you his superb track, The First Shoots of Spring, which comes from the album, Samhain's March. You can find out more about James on his website or on his Contributor Page. The Trooping Fairies & the Tale of Frank Martin by W. B. Yeats W. B. Yeats (1865-1939) This superb and charming piece comes from an anthology of Irish folklore, edited by W. B. Yeats in 1888 called Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry. Many of these stories are from books which are archived at this site; some are from books which have yet to be converted to etext or now-rare source material. He selected many of the best (and often funniest) tales from other writers such as Lady Wilde, Croker, Lover, Hyde, and Carelton. Yeats wrote introductory material and notes to many of these stories. William Butler Yeats was an Irish poet and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. A pillar of both the Irish and British literary establishments, in his later years he served as an Irish Senator for two terms. Yeats was born and educated in Dublin, but spent his childhood in County Sligo. He studied poetry in his youth and from an early age was fascinated by both Irish legends and the occult. Those topics feature in the first phase of his work, which lasted roughly until the turn of the 20th century. His earliest volume of verse was published in 1889 and those slow-paced and lyrical poems display debts to Edmund Spenser, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and the Pre-Raphaelite poets. sheeogue sidheóg deenee shee daoine sidhe Book of Armagh Tuatha De Danān slooa-shee sheagh sidhe Marcra shee daoine maithe lepra-caun Ballisodare Plain-a-Bawn pooka A brief sample of "A Pretty Maid Milking her Cow" by Black Dog Boonzy can be heard in this piece, as can two harp pieces by Turlough O'Carolan played by Darren Raleigh (see below). Another brief sample of the pipes heard in the ancient tune of "Lough Erne Shore" by Andy Irvine and Paul Brady can also be heard where mentioned in the text. You can find the full text of the book on the Sacred Texts website and this piece at Trooping Fairies. The Rabbit Song by S. J. Tucker Blessings Fans of all ages come to see SJ Tucker for more than just the stories she weaves into her songwriting -- her musical talents are second to none. Her style is classified, at times, as "Celtic Blues", while her instrumental and vocal talents earn comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Dar Williams, and Jeff Buckley. Not confined to one type of song or another, SJ spans opera, chant, and rockergrrl, employing deft guitar hands and the bluesy, powerful voice of a 300lb gospel singer--finely contained in a petite frame which earned her first band the name 'Skinny White Chick' by accident. An incredibly prolific writer, SJ Tucker has composed over 130 original songs and independently produced six full-length studio albums. SJ Tucker started on the road with her first album in 2004, and she is taking the nation by storm -- on her own power -- state by state. We are really proud to bring you her Rabbit's Song from her album Blessings, a powerful exploration of totems and the Trickster just perfect for Ostara. You can find out more about Sooj on her website at sjtucker.com or on her Contributor Page. Blodeuwedd by Rick Allen The Inconstant Bard An immortal voice and talent. The lyrical, bardic poetry of a Celtic warrior and spiritual seeker, this recording of Rick Allen's unforgettable voice, accompanied by the musical gifts of The Constant Cohorts, brings the listener back to the days of yore when Druids thrived, the Green Man freely roamed the land, passionate Love was a path to the Mysteries, the Muse was a Lady in White, “. . . and men were true.” This is Rick's own Tribute to the Maiden of Flowers, Blodeuwedd. Please visit our Contributor page to learn more about Rick Allen's story. Celtic Maidens by Ceri Norman Celtic Maidens From a young age Ceri Norman's love of mythology and history has inspired her. After gaining a degree studying History and English, Ceri worked in libraries and museums sharing this love with the people she met. Seeing the pleasure that books and history gave, Ceri started writing fiction that people of all ages could enjoy and relate to. As a deeply spiritual person she prefers her writing to have a spiritual and mystical flavour. Celtic Maidens is a supernatural tale of love, lives & obsession set against the dramatic scenery of the Welsh Mountains. Celtic Maidens tells the story of Siân Derwyn whose life holds few pleasures except for her friends, her interest in local folklore and the standing stones until the day that Ryan Ackley arrives in her remote Welsh village. Learn more about Ceri Norman on her website or on her Contributor Page. Atholl Highlander by Connemara Stone Company Original The Connemara Stone Company (CSC) are a Celtic Folk Rock and Folk Rock Band from Germany. They have now been together since 1995. In this period of time they have advanced from a Local Band to a fairly well known Band in the Celtic Folk Rock scene. Their main strength is in their ability to entertain a wider public with their own style of Celtic music in a modern Folk Rock style, appealing to all generations and a audience that are not only folk fans. Teaspoon Ring Oak, Broom & Meadowsweet by Damh the Bard The Spirit of Albion Damh is a modern-day Bard whose spirituality, and love of folk tradition, is expressed through his music, storytelling and poetry. Drawing on the Bardic traditions his performances are both entertaining and educational, weaving a tapestry of myth, peace, and anthems that speak directly to the heart, but never without a good splash of humour. This beautiful track, Oak, Broom & Meadowsweet, comes from Damh's third CD - The Spirit of Albion; a superb album that captures the full range of this master's talent. The Forge (http://www.theforgemusic.com) are a traditional Irish music group, of whom Brian O'Donovan (A Celtic Soujourn - WGBH) says "A new band shows up on the scene and immediately seems destined to make an impact. The Forge are a bright new name in the American Irish music scene. Paying homage to their traditional roots while creating something new.” The members, Maeve Gilchrist (harp, voice), Cara Francowicz (fiddle), Nicole Rabata (Irish Flute), and Anna Colliton (Bodhran) are all distinguished as soloists and side musicians on other projects across the musical spectrum, but decided at a session in the wee small hours at a music festival to become a group. This was a very informational chat for me, as the Forge shed light on their embellishment and arrangement techniques. Music featured includes selections from the group's website (Dever the Dancer, Sweet Rosemarie, The Blackbird, and and a set made up of Bold Dougherty/Palm Sunday/The Legacy) plus a selection from Maeve Gilchrist's CD Song of Delight (called "Take off Your Coat") which I included to illustrate Maeve's harmonic invention and way of crafting an intro to a tune.

Do you have time for 9 minutes? Here is a Medley of 5 traditional tunes: Cooleys Reel, Anthony Payne of Stratton, Silver Spear, Cuckous Nest and Harvest Home. Me on banjo 1, I on banjo 2, Myself on fiddle 1 and Manuel on fiddle 2. I wanted to imitate some Bodhran sounds so I used a droning triplet picking pattern in the backup banjo. Picked on the HUBER BANJO.

Michelle Hedden recorded on Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers with me and used to play with Brobdingnagian Bards. I thought it'd be nice to jam a little before a CD release party of cat songs. Songs: "Come Out Ye Black and Tans" "Paddy McCullough" "Ye Jacobites By Name" "Old Dun Cow" "A Lil Bit o'Love" "Fields of Athenrye" "Harvest Home/The Butterfly" "What Shall We Do With a Catnipped Kitty" "Maid Went to the Mill" "Big Strong Man" "My Darling Clementine" "Jedi Drinking Song Prequel" "Don't Go Drinking With Hobbits" Notes: Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers: Whiskers in the Jar Michelle Hedden, guest bodhran player Buy Me a Pint!
