Our MASSIVE multi-episode Operation Market Garden series continues. We're moving along, pushing out a great deal of content and now only a few episodes remain. Matt Visser, who works as a research assistant on the podcast, hosts this episode for traditional host Joe Buccino. We actually had to add a few episodes to this miniseries on Market Garden. We originally were planning for a 9-day, 9-episode piece to run in concert with the 77th anniversary of the actual operation (September 17 to 25, 1944). However, to be fair to the full scope of this story, we've decided to go with 11 episodes over 11 days. In this, episode 71, the 9th on Market Garden, we welcome Jennifer Grant, a postgraduate researcher specializing in the Polish Armed Forces at the Queen Mary University of London Jennifer represents the Polish perspective in the allied operation. She describes the objectives and actions of the 1st Independent Airborne Brigade in Arnhem. She also describes the complicated legacy of Stanisław Sosabowski, the commander of that unit. Jennifer Grant offers some real thoughtful insight; a fantastic overview of a complicated aspect of Market Garden. This story really cannot be told in full without an understanding of the Polish airborne. Our Market Garden miniseries began in Episode 63 and ends on Monday, September 27th with the release of Episode 73. If you haven't been following along, we recommend you go back through on Apple Podcasts or Spotify and listen to all episodes in this series.
We end our three-part series on faith formation in grandchildren by hearing from two Christians who take somewhat different approaches: one who feels a heavy burden to guide young people toward his faith, and another who has written a new children's book to help grandparents explain who God is. Generation X, which consists of people who are currently between 40 and 55 years of age, is jokingly referred to as the forgotten middle child. Sandwiched in between the Baby Boomer generation of their parents and the Millennial generation of their children, they often find themselves carrying the burdens of loved ones that are both older and younger than them. This position is especially interesting in terms of a global pandemic. On this episode of Christian Curious, we chat with Caryn Rivadeneira and Jennifer Grant to discuss how their generation has been processing, coping, and growing throughout 2020.
Jennifer Grant joins us all the way from Shanghai to share what the outbreak of the pandemic has been like for manufacturers there.

The early community of Jesus-followers in Corinth struggled with factionalism - over-identifying with particular leaders. Just as Paul urged his friends to re-center Jesus, we too seek to center our collective call to discern how to walk the Jesus Way together in the particularities of our time and our place. It's Leadership Discernment season at SMC, and the very good news is this: we are a WE, and together - with our whole and real selves - we've got this. Listen in as we sing and pray together, AND get the scoop on which beloved has discerned a YES to serving as our next congregational chair!!+++Acts 18:1-41 Corinthians 1:10-18PHOTO: current incarnation of Spiritual Leadership Team, Nov 2019+++Unless otherwise noted, permission to podcast the music in this service obtained from One License with license #A-726929. Jesus' command is clear: we are called to feed all of God's children. But is that possible? Twenty-five years ago, 23.3 percent of the world's population lived in hunger. Today, that number has dropped to 12.9 percent—giving rise to the renewed hope that what once seemed unthinkable is now within reach. The challenges are great, but the fight to eliminate malnutrition and hunger is one we can win. The End of Hunger brings together activists, politicians, scientists, pastors, theologians, and artists on this urgent topic. Here is a comprehensive picture of the current situation—the latest facts and figures are presented alongside compelling stories, both from those engaged in the fight against hunger and from the hungry themselves. Here too are clear steps for action by individuals, families, churches, and communities. This book is designed to inform and inspire you to get involved in the gospel work of eradicating global malnutrition and feeding the hungry. It is Jesus' command—and together, with God's help, we can do it. Our guest Cathleen Falsani is an award-winning religion journalist and author, specializing in the intersection of faith and culture. Meredith and Kaytee have a special guest again this week to discuss our favorite picture books for the 2-5 year kiddos in your life! You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each host: an author event, kid librarians, and a fantastic iTunes review. Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. We are each talking about two recent reads and we’ve got a variety of new titles that we cannot wait to discuss this week. For our deep dive, we are discussing our very favorite picture books for the 2-5 year old range. Abbey has a lot of great expertise in this area, so we are only too happy to have her input. As always, we finish up with A Book (yep, capitalized) that we’d like to press into every reader’s hands. We’ve got a childhood favorite, which may not be for kids, that has been read over and over again, a WWII novel told in a totally new way, and a reference book that belongs on every parent’s shelves. As per usual, time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book and resource we mentioned in this episode. And for the 5th consecutive year, BEHIND THE LENS celebrates TCM and the festival with a preview look thanks to our very special classic film Movie Mavens, KELLEE PRATT, AURORA DESMOND, KRISTEN LOPEZ, and PAULA GUTHAT! This year, all four of the ladies are TCM AMBASSADORS, so festival attendees, be on the lookout for them! These gals will be everywhere seeing as many movies as they can, answering questions for you, and keeping you updated on social media. You can hop onto Twitter and keep up with each of us throughout the festival and all year long at: @irishjayhawk66, @citizenscreen, @journeys_film, @paula_guthat, and @moviesharkd. Take a listen as we go through the festival line-up and special events and debate the merits of each film from the perspective of "conflict" situations. And trust me on this - every time block presents conflict situations as to which movie to see or event to attend; a true testament to longtime TCM programming guru CHARLIE TABESH and his team. Of course, when push comes to shove, we each have our #1 pick if we were forced to make a selection of only one film to see. Covering everything from the TCM app to keeping up energy with more than popcorn and soda (helpful hint: Legendary Margaret O'Brien loves the hot dogs at the upstairs TCL theatre complex next to the TCL Chinese Theatre. If they're good enough for Margaret, they're good enough for me!), we've got some eatery tips for you, navigation hints, recommendations on speakers you may want to hear (it's unanimous that we all want to hear Jennifer Grant talk about her dad; I'm also very partial to sound guru and Oscar winner Ben Burtt and our newest Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth Carter), some history on nitrate films (glorious!!) and Kristen speaks to some of the issues facing the disabled or wheelchair bound attendees. And through it all, we've got laughs and love aplenty for classic film! The 10th Annual TCM CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL kicks off Thursday, April 11th and runs through Sunday, April 14th in Hollywood! While home base for the fest is the Roosevelt Hotel and the TCL Chinese Theatre and theatre complex, screenings and events are also being held at the legendary Egyptian Theatre, Cinerama Dome, and the newly restored Legion Theater at Post 43! Take a listen now! And, HAPPY FESTING!! http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

What we cover: In this moment, we are safe. Today's guest is Dr Russ Kennedy – someone I have known since 2004, when I launched my brief stint into the stand up comedy world. Russ was a fellow comic, and I got to know him then, and I always really liked him. I eventually set that aside as I evolved as a writer and instead focused more on my foray into the world of one-woman shows – but Russ remained in my orbit because my brother Julien Dionne and his girlfriend Jennifer Grant are comics and so I continued to see Russ perform over the years. The thing I dug about Russ is that he wasn’t just a comic, he had this whole other side to him. He was a neuroscientist and a medical doctor as well. It’s not everyday you meet someone so robust in background. But that’s who Russ is. As a physician, and someone who very openly speaks about his own struggle with anxiety and his father’s battle with mental illness, he has recently launched a fantastic course and online resource called The Kennedy Method. Which you can learn more about by visiting MJDionne.com and clicking on the podcaster tab. There are so many of us – I would venture to say the majority of the population – who at one time or another experiences some form of at least temporarily debilitating self-doubt, fear, worry, anxiety. And so this is a conversation for us all. Russ isn’t just a doctor, he’s been the patient. He gets it. He knows. MJDionne.com

I'm looking forward to meeting Rev Sarah Heath in person sometime soon as she's sweet and spicy as well. She currently serves as the Lead Pastor of a Re-Start congregation in Costa Mesa, First UMC Costa Mesa (www.costamesafirst.com.) Keeping close to her newfound, southern roots, Sarah attended the University of Southern Mississippi after high school graduation where she received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Biology. Hearing the call to ministry, Sarah attended Duke Divinity School where she earned her Master of Divinity degree in 2005. Sarah is often a guest writer for various publications, websites and blogs where she shares insights on the topics of making faith relevant in our modern society and negotiating faith with church – How does faith “work,” grow, and be sustained when you don't fit into the average church? Sarah is a contributor to the book, Disquiet Time: Rants and Reflections on the Good Book by the Skeptical, the Faithful, and a Few Scoundrels edited by Jennifer Grant and Cathleen Falsani aiming to provide thoughtful, honest, and vulnerable biblical reflections for those passages that make people squeamish.
