Last week I shared an episode with the wonderful Dr Monika Sharma all about cortisol. We talked about what it is, why we need it, how to regulate it and the role it plays in relation to type 1 diabetes. Within that chat we got onto the subject of a morning routine and what we can do to build healthy habits that can set us up for the day without being overstimulated and sending cortisol off the charts.I'm super thankful to Dr Monika for her expertise and knowledge, and during that conversation I briefly mentioned how I had recently started to build out a more consistent morning routine, having been a morning routine skeptic and believing it couldn't possibly help me with my type 1 diabetes.Of course it's in no way a replacement for medication, professional guidance or treatment, but I do believe that finding a version of a morning routine that works for me has been a positive addition to my life.So today I'm sharing my thoughts around a morning routine, and what I'm currently doing (and not doing) before diving into the never-ending to-dos and deadlines. This is just my personal experience and in no way intended as advice, but I hope you find it interesting! PEOPLE, PLACES AND THINGS MENTIONEDTim FerrissHal Elrod's The Morning MiracleDr Rangan Chatterjee on Working Hard with Grace Beverley - Why the first 5 mintues of your day are the most importantDr Jim Doty on The Mel Robbins Podcast - How to manifest anything you want and unlock the unlimited power of your mindDISCLAIMER Nothing you hear on Type 1 on 1 should be taken as medical advice. Please consult your healthcare team before making any changes to your diabetes or health management.SPONSOR MESSAGE This episode of Type 1 on 1 is sponsored by Dexcom. In this episode of For The Dads with Will Compton, hosts Will and Sherm dive into the importance of date nights, weekend plans (shoutout Baylor/Auburn), and swap kids’ entertainment recommendations—all while keeping it real with laughs, stories, and raw dad energy. The episode kicks off with PT6 community shoutouts that bring both heart and humor, including: The nickname Willy One Shelf catching fire amongst the PT6ers. Sherm’s battle with gravity as he shows off the new For The Dads Oxford Pennant (and teases new merch). The introduction of the podcast’s newest team member. Sherm also gets vulnerable about dad-loss as his wife heads out of town for the week, leaving him solo at home. (We’re all devastated for him, trust us). Other highlights include: A can’t-miss call-in from a general contractor who just can’t catch a break. Sherm closing the show with a gut-wrenching Keanu Reeves monologue that leaves the boys in tears.

Our conversation took a transformative turn with a guest whose journey of resilience and courage inspired us all. After a harsh wake-up call from his doctor, a deep dive into sleep science, Blue Zones eating, and the “happiness macronutrients” (enjoyment, satisfaction, purpose) reshaped Scott's health and mindset. He breaks down the morning routine that keeps him consistent (pushups, walking, meditation, cold showers), why he chose an alcohol-free path, and how to build a lifestyle that supports fat loss, better sleep, and long-term happiness. What You'll Learn Why sleep is the #1 lever for energy, cravings, and sustainable fat loss The difference between enjoyment vs. satisfaction vs. purpose—and why most of us over-index on quick hits How Scott cut alcohol (and kept his social life) during the lockdown—and why energy became the ultimate motivator Blue Zones-inspired eating (beans/legumes, fiber, minimally processed foods) and real-world experiments that guided his diet A simple monk-style morning routine to hard-wire consistency and self-trust How to use ikigai to align work, health, and purpose Culture vs. biology: why ultra-processed foods hijack dopamine and wreck sleep, mood, and metabolism Tiny “do-it-today” actions that compound: walking, hydration, morning light, breathwork, and cold exposure Notable Quotes “Energy is the first ingredient of happiness—and sleep is the first ingredient of energy.” “Do one hard thing every morning you don't want to do that benefits your future self.” “I stopped outsourcing my emotions to food, alcohol, and TV—and took ownership.” “Walk, sleep, and simple whole foods beat hacks and heroics—consistency wins.” CTA If this episode helped you, follow/subscribe and leave a rating & review—it helps more people find the show. Ever wondered what the best way is to start your morning for optimal gut health? In this episode, I'm breaking down the exact routine I follow (and recommend to my clients) that supports digestion, boosts energy, helps with skin issues, and sets the tone for a smoother day overall. I'm also sharing the backstory—how I discovered my gut was behind my cystic acne, why your mouth health directly impacts your digestive system, and why skipping breakfast may be one of the worst things you can do for your hormones and metabolism. Whether you're starting from scratch or ready to fine-tune your current routine, this episode gives you 3 simple steps to implement right away—and a deeper understanding of why they matter. Inside the episode:  Why your gut is at the center of everything (mood, skin, hormones, metabolism—you name it!) The real reason cystic acne and bloating may have nothing to do with your skincare or diet How our culture has brainwashed us into treating symptoms instead of the root The 3-step morning gut routine I swear by and recommend to every woman: Oil pulling or tongue scraping to reset your oral microbiome Morning lemon + ACV water to wake up your enzymes 30g of protein within 1 hour to fire up digestion and stabilize energy Why being “not hungry in the morning” is a red flag and not a flex How deep testing like GI mapping and Dutch hormone testing can uncover what routines alone can't fix Learn more:  Dutch Testing: https://drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/ GI Mapping: https://dr-beth-westie.mykajabi.com/offers/atCzhzkQ/checkout The Female Hormone Solution Program: My deep-dive coaching program that gets to the root of your hormone and gut health issues ➡️ Join the Waitlist Here
