Catherine is here today with Ben Lee. Ben Lee is an award-winning singer and songwriter, producer, essential oils educator, entrepreneur, death midwife, father, husband and professional adventurer. In everything he does, he is a passionate believer in the infinite possibility inherent in the human mind and heart. Ben Lee began releasing albums at 14 years old with his punk band Noise Addict at the height of the underground music revolution of 1992. His teen-angst pop punk songs were immediately recognized and praised by artists such as Sonic Youth and the Beastie Boys, who both went on to mentor Ben and release his albums on their respective labels. He released his first acoustic solo album at 16 years old and has continued a solo career over almost a quarter of a decade that has spawned hits in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands, and songs in commercials, films and TV shows leading to a large following in the US. He was won multiple ARIA awards, played the closing ceremony of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and starred in “The Rage in Placid Lake” alongside Rose Byrne and Gary MacDonald. Over the last 20 years his music has become increasingly focussed on his spiritual path and the awakening of consciousness. He has used the pop song format to experiment and to continually find new ways to carry spiritual messages into mainstream culture through song. More recently he has been invited to speak on issues of creativity and spirituality and has begun to share his message of awakening, inner work and non-conformity in this medium. Survivor Mentality: Looking for something to do leads to burying mistakes of the present in order to move on to the next future conquest. Action-Driven Motto: "Idle hands are the devil's workshop." Moral: Get busy and stay busy. Other Aspects of a Believer Broad Perspective: Can lead to distraction (last person on their tiptoes misses the parade while waiting for permission). Searcher Mentality: Waiting for something to be leads to blaming past actions in order to postpone an opportunity in the present. Motive-Driven Motto: "You are more than the worst thing you have ever done." Moral: Let your mess be your message not your excuse. Rupert Sheldrake, PhD Science Set Free: Ten Paths to New Discovery Join Michael Lerner for a discussion with Dr. Rupert Sheldrake about his life, his views, and his new book: Science Set Free — Ten Paths to New Discovery. In his book, Rupert discusses his views on the ways science is being constricted by assumptions that have, over the years, hardened into dogmas. Such dogmas are not only limiting, but dangerous for the future of humanity. According to these principles, all of reality is material or physical; the world is a machine, made up of inanimate matter; nature is purposeless; consciousness is nothing but the physical activity of the brain; free will is an illusion; God exists only as an idea in human minds, imprisoned within our skulls. In the skeptical spirit of true science, Sheldrake turns the ten fundamental dogmas of materialism into questions, and suggests how all of them open up new possibilities for discovery. Rupert Sheldrake, PhD Rupert is a biologist and author and a former research fellow of the Royal Society. He studied natural sciences and biochemistry at Cambridge University and philosophy and history of science at Harvard University. He is a fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, near San Francisco. He has appeared in many TV programs in Britain and overseas, and was one of the participants in a TV series called A Glorious Accident, shown on PBS channels throughout the United States. In addition to Science Set Free, his books include The Sense of Being Stared At and Other Aspects of the Extended Mind (2003), Trialogues at the Edge of the West (1992), republished as Chaos, Creativity and Cosmic Consciousness (2001, with Ralph Abraham and Terence McKenna), and The Physics of Angels: Exploring the Realm Where Science and Spirit Meet (1996, written with Matthew Fox).
