MAJOR SHIP COLLISION IN NORTH SEA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-North Sea: Early this morning a serious vessel collision was reported between two large cargo vessels. The M/V STENA IMMACULATE was lying at anchor when she was struck by the M/V SOLONG this morning. The collision resulted in a large and uncontrolled fire, which caused the crews of both vessels to abandon ship. Various Coast Guard forces carried out large-scale rescue operations throughout the day, recovering approximately 32x mariners from their liferafts by this afternoon.AC: At the moment, the status of the recovered crew members is unknown. It also isn't clear as to if either vessel is sinking, due to the fires preventing an assessment of watertight integrity. The STENA IMMACULATE is a US-flagged tanker vessel that was in these waters reportedly to resupply a US Navy vessel with aviation fuel. Per AIS ship tracking data, the SOLONG was very likely at fault, directly colliding with the STENA's port side directly amidships, without deviating from course or attempting to slow down. Consequently, this incident will very likely be subject to a thorough investigation to determine if this collision was intentional.Syria: The violence of the past few days has greatly expanded, and now encompasses many different factions. Most of the fighting has been reported in the northwestern regions of Syria, from Latakia to Baniyas.-HomeFront-USA: This morning Twitter/X suffered a large scale outage. Elon Musk stated that the reason for the outage was related to a large-scale cyberattack.Washington: Attacks on Tesla vehicle dealerships continue with assailants conducting an arson attack in Seattle. Overnight, several Tesla vehicles were set on fire in a storage lot on the corner of 2nd Ave and Spokane Street.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: At the moment it is too soon to tell if a civil war has begun in Syria, however the violence over the past week has been exceptionally disturbing. What originally began as retaliatory massacres of former members of the Assad regime, has transitioned into what most would consider to be ethnic cleansing operations. Christians have been a primary target for many groups, which have formed killing squads specifically with the goal of targeting Christian communities. Other (comparatively moderate) Muslim factions have also been targeted, with the Alawite ethnic group continually suffering massacres as well.Tragically, Syria is not unfamiliar with this development, as the long and weary Syrian Civil War of recent memory resulted in similar levels of factional violence. However, in this case, there is no somewhat stable regime to exert some sort of control over some parts of the nation. They know that unexpected good fortune tends to come with a flipside. What comes up must come down, and every action has an equal and opposite reaction — it's just a question of being able to calculate the Newtonian market forces to know when you are about to get clobbered. All of which is by way of context to the conversation at the heart of this week's edition of the podcast with Stena Bulk president and chief executive Erik Hånell. Hånell talks through his view about the immediate market prospects, but the conversation is about how to deal with uncertainty. As a business leader he needs to take strategic decisions now despite not knowing what lies ahead when it comes to fuels, technology or geopolitical risk. That presents a complex series of challenges.
Die RoRo/RoPax-Reederei Stena Line hat mit dem Deutschen Dennis Tetzlaff einen neuen Chief Operating Officer Fleet. Der ehemalige Seefahrer hat für seine wichtigste Aufgabe, die Betreuung der 40 Schiffe umfassenden Flotte, einige Pläne. Es geht Tetzlaff einerseits vor allem die Themen Harmonisierung, Digitalisierung, Change Management und Absicherung. Andererseits will der ehemalige Tui-Manager und Seefahrer auch persönliche Erfahrungen einbringen. »Es ist ein relativ komplexer Flottenbetrieb, natürlich auch mit latentem Zeitdruck. Die größte Herausforderung wird sicherlich sein, die richtige Tonnage bereitzustellen mit qualifizierter Crew, die dann entsprechend effizient und auch im Zeitplan operiert«, sagt Tetzlaff, der auf Neubauten, Umrüstungen und Tonnageplanungen für »Jahre und Jahrzehnte« eingeht. Da Stena in den letzten Jahren signifikant gewachsen war, sieht er eine zentrale Aufgabe in der Flottenharmonisierung, die er detailliert erläutert. Es geht etwa um Standards, Redundanzen, Qualitätsmanagement und den stärkeren Einbezug der Crews. Tetzlaff, der sich selbst als relativ pragmatischen Typ beschreibt und auch über seinen Führungsstil, eine persönliche Note und Dopamin-Ausstöße spricht, will eine gesunde Mischung aus Effektivität und Effizienz im Flottenbetrieb schaffen. Er geht u.a. auch auf neue »E-Flexer«- und »NewMax«-Schiffe, hilfreiche Erfahrungen aus seiner Kreuzfahrt-Tätigkeit, persönliche Ziele und eine persönliche Note, Führungsstil, Change Management und Dopamin-Ausstöße, Neubauten und Umrüstungen, Tonnageplanungen, die Frage nach dem Kraftstoff der Zukunft sowie Investitionen und Risiken ein.

The €600k rewetting initiative announced by Transport Research Arena will restore 100 hectares of degraded blanket bog in Wicklow Mountains National Park, in a collaboration bringing together TRA, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Transport. The organisers of Transport Research Arena (TRA2024) have launched a €600,000 peatlands rewetting project in County Wicklow as preparations continue for the conference taking place in Dublin in April. TRA is the largest European event to address all aspects of transport and mobility and it is estimated that bringing it to Dublin will be worth €7 million to the Irish economy. Peatlands restoration scheme in Wicklow The rewetting initiative will restore 100 hectares of degraded blanket bog in Wicklow Mountains National Park, in a collaboration bringing together TRA2024, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Transport. Healthy peatlands are the most efficient, long-term and concentrated carbon stores and sinks in our planet's biosphere. One hectare of restored blanket bog avoids 10 tonnes of carbon loss per year, and with a lifetime of thousands of years it will carry on capturing carbon long into the future. Director of TRA2024 Dublin Dr Albert Daly says making a positive environmental impact is important to the organisers: "Hosting TRA2024 in Dublin is a fantastic opportunity and as an island nation, we are conscious that bringing people here contributes to the event's carbon footprint. This major Peatland Restoration project - which will prevent the release of nearly 1000 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere annually for many years to come - serves as a reminder of the importance of developing low-carbon transport, which is one of the priorities at TRA2024". Dr Billy O'Keeffe, senior geologist/hydrogeologist at TII, who will lead the initiative, said: "This Wetlands Restoration Project harnesses the power of one of our greatest natural assets. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, healthy blanket bogs can improve water quality, prevent flooding and reduce the risk of drought and wildfires. They are also richly biodiverse, offering habitats for a massive array of plants, birds and insects." The TRA2024 Dublin event will run from 15 - 18 April and will discuss all modes of transport including road, rail, air, water and cross modality, in urban, inter-urban and rural settings. The importance of developing sustainable transport is a significant part of the event programme, while one of the four days is fully dedicated to discussing themes of decarbonisation and improving transport sustainability. Attendees at the event in the RDS will include two European Commissioners and three Director Generals, Government representatives from the EU, UK and US, and officials from leading global businesses including Google, Collins Aerospace, BMW, SNCF and Stena. Over 1,200 submissions from researchers around the globe have already been received and over 940 of these will be presented throughout the week in Dublin as researchers plot a way to a more sustainable transport future for the planet. Po rdeče-beli naslovnici s prvim ciklom z naslovom Vojne takoj dobi novo, globljo razsežnost. Vse pesmi tega cikla so opremljene s QR kodo, prek katere jih bralci lahko slišimo v pesničini interpretaciji. »Pomembno je biti na pravi strani« so prve besede zbirke in se stopnjujejo skozi cikel, čeprav tretja pesem neposrednost in napetost v svoji drugačnosti ustavi in umiri. Ta namreč govori o intimni žalosti, ki razjeda notranjost lirskega subjekta in napoveduje osebnoizpovedni sredinski del zbirke. Družbena kritičnost, ki se s ciklom Vojne pojavi na začetku, na koncu zbirke pa predvsem s pesmima Jebite se! in Ne žugam, je neposredna in odločna. Pesničin glas je poln vzklikov in retoričnih vprašanj, odseva jezo in prizadetost ob družbeni situaciji, v kateri živi. Zaveda se, da poezija »ne žuga s sredincem leve roke« in je za bralce lahko le v vlogi ogledala – ozaveščanja in refleksije. Krik po spremembah je pogumen in iskreno odseva stisko mlade generacije, ki ji pesnica pripada. Stiska, ki zadeva ob »steno srca«, pa ni in ne more biti samo posledica političnih trenj, ki nas posebej zadevajo v zadnjih letih, ampak tudi notranjih bojev. Tudi v ljubezenski poeziji je pesnica s kratkimi verzi neposredna in z jasno metaforiko odkrita. Odpira bolečine neuslišane ljubezni, samote, hrepenenja, tesnobe, pa tudi družbenega pritiska in pričakovanj – vse to v prevladujočem občutku, da v svetu pritlikavcev nikoli ni »dovolj majhna, nikoli dovolj velika, nikoli pravšnja za ta svet«. Pogum, da pesnica v zunanjih bojih, ki postajajo notranji, in notranjih, ki postajajo zunanji, ostaja iskrena in s svojim izrazom ne želi ustrezati nobeni sprejemljivejši in bolj všečni različici sebe, nosi največjo moč in kvaliteto zbirke, čeprav berljiva poezija v preprostih podobah in lepi metaforiki bralcu vzbuja predvsem občutke sočutja. Poezija Valentine Plaskan v zbirki Stena srca nas s svojo neposredno družbeno kritičnostjo preseneča, a hkrati z osebno izpovednostjo dovolj stimulativno odvrne od presilovite artikulacije, za katero pa se pesnica zaveda, da iz verza v verz izgublja svojo moč. Poezija je namreč silno vpeta v sedanjost in v nas zbuja priokus grenkega obdobja epidemije, kar pesnica – novinarka priznava tudi v spremni besedi, kjer pravi, da bralec vstopa »med pesmi, ki so bile del učne ure, kako vzravnano hoditi pod težo trepetajočega časa med trepetajočimi ljudmi, ki ne prizanašajo. Med pesmi, ki so stkane iz zraka, ki ga skušamo svobodno, kot le gre, loviti med plastmi mask«. Michael Barnard welcomes Elisabet Liljeblad, PhD, the sustainability and energy lead with Stena Teknik, to discuss decarbonization in the maritime industry. Elisabet shares her diverse background including studying the magnetosphere of Mercury and a stint in Afghanistan keeping the peace, and how she ended up in shipping. Full transcript.They explore the scale of the maritime industry and its challenge of decarbonization due to its size, variety of vessels, and dependency on fossil fuels. Shipping constitutes a significant amount of emissions globally. The conversation touches upon different types of ships within Stena's business units, including drilling, bulk transportation, passenger ferries, technical services, and their varying operational characteristics. They highlight the need for different fuel logistics as ships transition away from fossil fuels towards electrification or alternative fuels like ammonia, methanol, hydrogen or biodiesel blends. The challenges faced by ports in accommodating these diverse refueling options are also discussed along with onboard carbon capture as a potential solution.The potential for electrification in marine shipping is significant, with projections suggesting that 40% of container ships can be electrified within this decade.Methanol is another opportunity for shipping fuel, and Stena has converted a ropax vessel to run on both diesel and methanol. Methanol has half the energy density of fossil diesel but doesn't evaporate at room temperature. It's relatively easy to store and handle but requires separate tanks from other fuels due to its characteristics. Biodiesel, particularly hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), burns cleaner than fossil fuels with lower emissions of pollutants like sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx). HVO is considered a high-quality biofuel that emits fewer harmful substances and doesn't require special considerations like microbial growth.However, as green hydrogen becomes more prevalent in HVO production processes, it may become more expensive compared to other biofuels that don't rely on green hydrogen.There's no magic bullet solution for decarbonizing marine shipping; it requires a mix of solutions depending on the type of ship and route involved.They discuss the difference between N20 and NO2, both created by burning anything in our atmosphere, with a focus on their effects on human beings and the environment. Ultimately, the goal is to move away from burning fuels and transition to electric engines as much as possible for more efficient energy utilization.
Auf dem Weg nach Irland liegt Cherbourg immer wieder auf unserem Weg. Meist übernachten wir in der Gegend. Das liegt daran, dass sowohl die Fähren von Irish Ferries als auch die Fähre von Stena von hier aus abfährt. Und... Ihr wisst ja, die Titanic ist eines der Lieblingsthemen von Chris, vor allem seit er entdeckt hat, dass die Geschichte des Luxusliners eng mit der Geschichte Irlands verwebt ist. Cherbourg war der vorletzte Hafen, in dem das Schiff Passagiere und Post aufgenommen hat. Wahrscheinlich ist der Bekanntheit des Schiffs zu verdanken, weshalb es in der Cité de la Mer auch eine Ausstellung zur Titanic gibt. Die Cité de La Mer befindet sich im Transatlantischen Hafenbahnhof von Cherbourg. Hier konnten die Passagiere von der Bahn direkt auf die Schiffe nach Amerika umsteigen. Heute werden hin den Hallen des Art déco Gebäudes nur noch selten Passagiere abgefertigt, statt dessen erkunden Besucher die Räume des Tiefsee- und Unterwassermuseums. Gleich in der Nachbarschaft legen die Fähren auf die Grüne Insel ab.

Positivt för oss inom elbranschen, kritiskt för staden och spännande för lokala energibolaget. Göteborg har en stor omställning. Resan som formgivare gick från lådebil till riktig bil i raketfart. Vid 25 års ålder designade han Volvos mest ikoniska bil, sportbilen P1800. Något som Volvo höll hemligt i många år innan man erkände att det faktiskt var en pojk från Göteborg som ritat bilen.Pelle Pettersson är också känd som konstruktör av Sveriges största båtsuccé, segelbåtarna i Maxi-serien. Men på design-CV:et finns mer, oerhört mycket mer. Motorbåtar, segelbåtar, takboxar, trädgårdsredskap, klockor, golfputters och till och med en Stena-färja. Značilna je močna bolečina v prsnem košu Nenadna močna bolečina v prsnem košu, ki ne popusti, je vedno znak za alarm. Največkrat gre za srčni infarkt. »Kadar pacienta boli v prsnem košu in ni infarkt, potem pomislimo tudi na poškodbo aorte,« pravi dr. Hugon Možina iz ljubljanskega Kliničnega centra. Med najbolj nevarnimi boleznimi te največje žile, ki vodi kri iz srca v telo, je disekcija aorte. Stena aorte se razsloji in raztrga. O nevarnosti disekcije aorte priča podatek, da dvajset odstotkov pacientov umre še preden pridejo na urgenco. Več v Ultrazvoku, ki ga je pripravil Iztok Konc.
Verjamem, da je plezalna naveza sveta. Tega me je naučil moj mentor, ko sem bila še alpinistična tečajnica. Razumem pa tudi vprašanje, kako je lahko sveto nekaj, kar je na zemlji, kar je otipljivo, kar je mogoče povsem razumsko razložiti. Zakaj bi kdo dajal nečemu takemu tako velik, morda celo pretiran pomen? Gre za človeka, ki ju povezuje vrv. Potrebujeta jo zato, da varno preplezata steno ali kot včasih pravimo alpinistke in alpinisti, rešita problem. Eden pleza, drugi ga varuje. Če prvi pade, ga drugi zadrži. Ko prvi prepleza raztežaj ali dolžino vrvi, ki ju povezuje, drugi pripleza do njega in naprej nadaljuje kot prvi. Tako si pošteno in enakopravno razdelita naloge v želji, da bi dosegla rob stene. Stena je lahko zelo prijazna, lepa, ponuja navdihujoče razglede ali pa je nevarna. Nepredvidljiva in divja. Naveza mora biti pripravljena na vse. In vrv, ki je med soplezalcema, mora zadržati morebitni padec in ponujati varnost, brez katere si stene ne bi upala preplezati. Ali ni tako tudi v življenju? Znajdemo se pred težavami, ki jih sami ne moremo rešiti. Da jih lahko rešimo, moramo pogosto biti kot alpinisti – popolnoma moramo zaupati tistemu, ki drži drugi konec vrvi, in verjeti moramo, da bo vrv zdržala vse preizkušnje in morebitne padce. Naveza lahko deluje samo tako ali pa sploh ne. In vrv lahko razumemo vsak po svoje – vrv je lahko vera, lahko je ljubezen, lahko je hvaležnost, lahko je sreča, zaupanje ... Ali pa vse skupaj. Vrv je tisto, kar nas povezuje in zaradi česar zmoremo veliko več, kot bi zmogli, če je ne bi bilo. Zaupanje, zaradi katerega ima vrv smisel, pa je tisto, kar vse našteto povezuje v celoto, ki se ji reče naveza. Temu lahko rečemo tudi prijateljstvo, partnerstvo, starševstvo ali zaupanje v boga, da nam kljub vsem preizkušnjam hoče dobro. Naveza je življenje in življenje je naveza. Visoko v stenah ali v vsakdanjem življenju v dolini. Ko sem bila tečajnica, tega nisem ravno razumela. Danes trditev, da je naveza sveta, kot alpinistična inštruktorica poskušam pojasniti mladim iskalcem najlepših prehodov v stenah. Ker vem, da bodo navezo potrebovali tudi takrat, ko bodo v dolini. Morda je – tako kot jaz – ne bodo takoj razumeli. Vendar bodo prej ali slej spoznali njen pomen in takrat bodo tudi sami znali poiskati svetost v tistem, kar nas povezuje in dela naše življenje smiselno. V gorskih stenah ali pa v tistih drugih, nič manj strmih in nevarnih previsih, ki jih prinaša življenje.

V Slovenski filharmoniji in na programu Ars bomo lahko spremljali Pasijon v letu Gospodovem 2021 Damijana Močnika, oziroma koncert za abonma Vokalno-instrumentalni program. V duhu marčevskih feminističnih gibanj pa se bo na odru Male drame odprl prostor za ženske glasove. Igra #punceinpolpunce, ki jo je po naročilu SNG Drama Ljubljana napisala Jera Ivanc, je režirala Ivana Djilas. V Gledališču Koper pripravljajo nov projekt, ki nadaljuje lani poleti uprizorjeni dramski monolog Stena v morju. Pod naslovom Morje sten se zgodba, ki jo je napisal angleški dramatik Simon Stephens, nadaljuje in konča z zagovorom dodatnega lika, ki ga je prispeval Goran Vojnovič. V Svetu kulture se bomo posvetili tudi izrednim projekcijam ukrajinskih dokumentarnih filmov, s katerimi zbirajo sredstva za ukrajinske filmske ustvarjalce, ki zdaj v domovini dokumentirajo vojno. I podden Innovationslandet Sverige möter Emma Frans några av Sveriges främsta forskare och uppfinnare. I det senaste avsnittet gästar Christer Forsgren från återvinningsföretaget Stena Metall för att berätta om deras forskning och arbete för en hållbarare vardag. Med över 30 år inom branschen har han sett en attitydskillnad till återvinning. Du hör honom berätta om parallellerna mellan återvinning och kriminalitet, hur användningen av litiumjonbatterier har ändrats under tid och den eviga boven plast. Avsnittet spelades in 20 januari 2022 och är ett betalt samarbete med Stena Metall. Innovationslandet Sverige produceras av contentbyrån Borg Owilli.
Vojno rušenje mest ni samo bombardiranje sten stanovanjskih blokov, uničenje mesta pomeni tudi željo po uničenju družbe. O tem so razmišljali arhitekti Tomaž Krušec, Katarina Čakš, Boris Podrecca in Miloš Kosec.
Ko je pri sedemnajstih, sredi ravninske Poljske, v kateri je živela, po naključju odkrila skalno plezanje, je vedela, da bo to njena pot, ki ji bo omogočila prepotovati svet. Na njej je spoznala ljubezen svojega življenja, Davida, in gore, v katerih je našla veliko še ne povedanih zgodb in o njih posnela dokumentarne filme. V večkrat nagrajenem filmu Stena senc je v ospredje postavila življenje Šerp, ki na najvišje vrhove sveta varno spravijo tudi alpinistično popolnoma neizkušene ljudi.
Prvi Festival gorniškega filma je pri nas potekal leta 2002 na Bledu, a štejemo jih od leta 2007, ko se je festival preselil v Ljubljano, in tako bo letošnji, ki ga bo v danes ob 20-ih v Ljubljani in Radovljici slovesno odprl dokumentarni film Stena – vzpon do zlata o štirih vrhunskih plezalkah, tudi naši Janji Garnbret, že 16. po vrsti.

Del 1 av 2 i Inkludering & Mångfald. Nu kommer ni att få en liten specialare i två delar med start denna vecka och nästa avsnitt kommer redan nästa ons 10/11. En dag kom Lotta Peterson – en Convendum-kollega till mig och frågade om jag hade lust att intervjua hennes dotter Meja. Meja är 17 år är diagnostiserad med autism, går nu på gymnasiet och ska snart ut i arbetslivet – något som Lotta har en hel del åsikter om och som förpliktigar att arbetsgivare ser fördelen med mångfald. Meja sticker ut men hur många unga och andra personer idag gör inte det…?Hur kommer arbetslivet se ut för dem som är utanför normen…? För att få lite referenser i näringslivet så blev jag tipsad om att Stena-sfären påbörjat ett stort initiativ för alla deras bolag och tusentals anställda runtom i världen – hur jobbar de med inkludering och mångfald och varför tycker de att det är så viktigt – och varför kan det vara svårt omsätta i praktiken …?

Episode 52 That Great Business Show - Eamonn O'Reilly, CEO, Dublin Port CompanyEamonn discusses every aspect of Dublin Port, handling 84% of the country's container and trailer traffic.Dublin Port (DP) has 4,000 people working within its walls, but not working directly for DP (165 people are directly employed).The majority of workers work for companies like Stena, P&O, ICG etc.DP had turnover of €89m last year and he explains how DP makes its money.He explains why ships lie offshore DP for various reasons, over weekends.Eamonn tells us the history of hobblers and how that has changed with regular slots for ships.Ferries have fixed slots, based on best times for them commercially.DP is beginning to reach constraints capacity, and rail won't play a major role.They're going to try to squeeze more activity within the port, particularly cut down the dwell time of goods within the port.You can stack containers up to about six to be efficient.He cites Valparaiso in Chile, which is the most efficient port in the world, which passes about three times more goods through than DP.Biggest containers into DP can carry 1,200 containers but ships can carry up to 22,000.Brexit has changed the profile of the business at DP, as trade flows, like water, follows the line of least resistance.They've seen an enormous growth of goods coming directly from continental Europe.He says that trying to build houses on the DP land is an appalling idea and he explains the history of Bremore Harbour.One metre of quay wall can cost €100,000 and a quay might run 300 metres.To build Bremore he reckons might cost €4 billion plus and doubles when lands have to be remediated. The quickest all of this could be built would be 20 years.DP is the 'single most important transport infrastructure in the country'.3D printing will replace some traditional manufacturing which will have an effect on trade and therefore port volume.There will be a decoupling between port volumes and GDP growth.Cruise ship bookings are allocated two years ahead.He discusses road access to the port and the need to introduce road pricing, to help manage the capacity of our roads infrastructure.DP plans will mean a new private bridge next to the East Link or Tom Clarke Bridge. Pre-application discussions have already started with an Bord Pleanála. They're working on a 4km greenway from East Point business park, down the Tolka estuary, to the most eastern extreme point of DP, where the boats enter the port.And Eamonn's 'hire in a heartbeat' is Peter Rice, a structural engineer, who made possible the Sydney Opera Centre, the Lloyds building in London and others. Stena Bulk believes biofuel has the potential of putting shipping on the trajectory towards IMO's greenhouse gas reduction targets, without having to wait for new technology and zero-carbon fuels to emerge as commercially viable options. Formula E and no spoilers! Circuit racing returned to Switzerland as the ABB FIA Formula E Championship raced through the city streets and lakefront boulevards of Zurich, host city of the 2018 Julius Baer Zurich E-Prix. And it was carnage! The championship battle is well and truly alive. There were countless overtakes, controversies, penalties. I won't mention the winners of the race or the championship for a day or so in case you're catching up. TESLA WILL START ENABLING FULL SELF-DRIVING FEATURES IN AUGUST "Elon Musk has revealed that Autopilot version 9 should arrive in August, and Tesla will "begin to enable" the full autonomous driving features with that release. The company has "rightly focused entirely on safety" with previous versions, Musk said, but now it's time to spread its wings." reports Jon Fingas at Engadget: "However, the "full self-driving capability" package should actually mean something once Autopilot 9 arrives and the more advanced features kick in. There may be some situations where it's genuinely acceptable to let go of the steering wheel, even if it's limited to parking lots and other private spaces." NORWAY SMILES FOR TESLA AND NISSAN InsideEvs always has their eyes on the sales prize and Mark Kane says "Plug-in electric car sales in Norway increased in May and now exceed a cumulative level of 200,000 new registrations since 2012. The best selling car in Norway this year is the Nissan LEAF, which took the lead after a spectacular registration record of 2,172 in March. Since then, sales dialed back to three-digit numbers – 997 in April and 644 in May. During the first five months of 2018, Tesla significantly increased its sales in Norway of both the Model S and Model X" VW AND GOOGLE WORK TOGETHER ON BATTERIES In 2017 Google and VW announced their plans to work together using new machine learning process projects to further advance artificial intelligence. Now, we have some news from Chris Randall at Electrive regarding custom batteries: " VW announced that they had first succeeded in simulating the structure of industry-relevant molecules on a quantum computer. The simulation is relevant for the development of more powerful batteries, particularly in the area of EV batteries. Long term, the partners plan to be able to simulate the entire chemical process of a whole battery on a quantum computer. The goal is to develop a “tailor-made” battery; a configurable blueprint ready for production. The simulation requires particularly powerful computing." TATA MOTORS’ ELECTRIC CARS TO HAVE 400 KILOMETRE BATTERY RANGE "Tata Motors has revealed that its future range of electric cars under the Alpha and Omega platforms will have a range of around 300-400 kilometers per charge." says Cartoq: "The Indian automaker currently sells a solitary electric car – the Tigor Electric – to the Indian government. Soon, the Tigor Electric and its hatchback sibling – the Tiago Electric – will go on sale in India for private car buyers as well. However, the range of the Tigor and Tiago Electric cars are around 100-120 kilometers/charge. Tata Motors plans to use the Tigor and Tiago Electric cars as a stop-gap arrangement before its new range of electric cars under the Alpha and Omega platforms arrive." "These cars are expected to have a range of about 300-400 kilometers/charge and will run on 320 volt batteries. A fast charge option will be standard, and the Tata electric cars running 320V batteries will also be very quick off the block." £12.50 LONDON ULTRA-LOW EMISSION ZONE London's Mayor, Sadiq Khan, last week confirmed the London Ultra-Low Emission Zone is be growing larger than previously announced. It will now reach the North and South circular roads, but not until October 2021. For now, the zone is limited to central London which goes into effect April 2019. If you drive into the Zone in a car which doesn't comply, you'll be charged £12.50 a day to enter the ULEZ. At the moment you can drive into town at weekends and bank holidays and not face the existing Congestion Charge, but the ULEZ fees apply 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It's harsh on diesels particularly and if it's not Euro 6 or newer it's going to be penailsed. The office of the mayor says it remove the dirtiest, most polluting vehicles, and affect 100,000 cars, 35,000 vans and 3,000 lorries a day. STENA LINE INTRODUCING BATTERY-ELECTRIC OPERATION TO FERRY Stena Line is a big ferry company here in Europe, they have 38 vessels and operate 21 routes in Northern Europe. Green Car Congress has the details on: "Stena recently signed with Callenberg Technology Group for 1 MWh of batteries which will be installed on Stena Jutlandica which operates between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn. Stena envisions three phases to the project. In step one, due this summer, the 1 MWh, 3,000 kW battery pack, which will be located on the weather deck, will be used for bow thrusters and manoeuvring when berthing in port. In step two, a 20 MWh battery pack will be connected to the propellers; Stena Jutlandica will be able to be operated on electricity within around 10 nautical miles, equal to the distance between Göteborg and Vinga Lighthouse. In step three, the battery capacity will be further expanded to 50 MWh, enabling about 50 nautical miles." Therese Jällbrink, Business Interaction Manager, Stena Bulk, started her career 15 years ago when she decided to become a Master Mariner. After having tested out to be at sea, she realized it was not for her, so she changed into studying Shipping & Logistics. She got an internship at Brostrom Tankers, where she worked for a couple of years before she joined Stena Bulk as a trainee. She is now part of the Business Development group that is transferring the company into the digitalized way of working. Per Stefenson is the naval architect responsible for the conversion of the STENA GERMANICA to methanol. This project is one of the answers to the SECA rules which has become a talking point all over the world. Per is mentioning the Methanol Institute as one of their partners when developing this first ever conversion of a ship engine from diesel to methanol. He also praises Wärtsilä and Lloyd's Register for their co-operation, not to mention Port of Gothenburg and Port of Kiel. The big project of converting STENA GERMANICA started after the tests were done on the STENA SCANRAIL, which was the testing vessel for the SPIRETH project. Methanol as an alternative fuel is partly funded by the EU Commission through the Motorways of the Sea and the Pilot Methanol on the Zero Vision Tool platform. The shipping industry is getting more and more energy efficient, improving the image as the most environmentally friendly mode of transport. Captain Jörgen Lorén is a Master Mariner, currently working on STENA DANICA, a passenger vessel, trading between Sweden and Denmark. Jörgen is an authority when it comes to training massevacuation from passenger vessels, testing new life saving equipment and taking part in developing a new way of thinking when it comes to rescue at sea. Jörgen works closely with the Swedish Sea Rescue Society which is responsible for 70 per cent of all sea rescues in Sweden and receives no government funding. As the testing and training needs a real and lifelike environment, #Stena is contributing with a Ship and a Captain and that is where Jörgen fits in. I recommend you to visit www.first-rescue.org to see some cool pics of new equioment being tested and also a film which can get anyone a bit seasick... ;) The film shows actually STENA JUTLANDICA, where Jörgen previously was one of the Captains. In the interview Jörgen also mentions the IMO, the International Maritime Organization, which is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships. Carl Johan Hagman has a long and successful background within the international shipping industry. Trained as a maritime lawyer in his native Sweden, Hagman spent the first eight years of his career with Walleniusrederierna AB and its affiliate Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines. 2002-2007 he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Eukor Car Carriers Inc. based in Seoul, Korea. In 2007 Carl-Johan returned to Sweden as Chief Executive Officer of Rederi AB Transatlantic and left for Höegh Autoliners AS in Oslo in 2008. He joined Stena in 2011 and is currently head of all maritime activities within the Stena Group. Having lived and worked in Asia for 22 years, Carl-Johan has gained a unique understanding of different business cultures and he is very engaged in leadership issues. Alberto D'Ascola (Italian born July 4, 1977), better known by his stage name Alborosie, is an Italian reggae artist. Born and raised in Marsala, Sicily, Italy, but now residing in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a multi-instrumentalist, being proficient in guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. His musical career began in the Italian reggae band Reggae National Tickets, from Bergamo city, when he was 15 years old in 1993, in which he was known as Stena.In 2001 Alborosie decided to try a solo career. He moved to Jamaica to be close to reggae music's roots and Rastafari culture. There, he started working as sound engineer and producer. He has also worked with artists like Gentleman and Ky-Mani Marley. His first solo album was called Soul Pirate. In the summer of 2009 he released his second album which was called "Escape from Babylon. In August 2008 Alborosie played at the Uppsala Reggae Festival. Alborosie recently started his own record label, Forward Recordings. He has given concerts all round the world, including most of Europe and Jamaica. I-cient-cy; growing up in Trench Town the catalyst for Reggae music, has inherited that unique sound founded by his predecessors. His debut Album “When Words come to Life” has a roots rock sound, mix with a combination of strong vocals over melodic drum and bass. It is, the true, ghetto experience, all blended in harmony. The first two single off the Album “WORKS TO DO, and STRUGGLE'' pack a solid one two punch, that will, have the world wanting more.
