We're talking about the Earth, Wind, & Fire documentary, and the wild story of this funky 70s band. We discuss the insane hypocrisy of Tyra Banks suing Netflix over the America's Next Top Model documentary in which she participated. Turns out, it's not fun to be at the mercy of editors trying to tell a particular story. A woman got a tattoo of her child's name, but there was a typo, and her solution is WILD. We celebrate the pianist who got the chance of a lifetime to perform when the pro keyboardist fell ill at a concert. We debate the question of custody of an embryo in the event of a divorce. Susie talks about a mummy whose gut was growing yeast, and we are not happy with what the scientists decided to do with it. We'll give you one dumb guess.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Download HILY Dating App from the App Store or Google Play, or visit https://hily.comGo to https://thrivecausemetics.com/BRAINCANDY for an exclusive offer of 20% off your first order.Visit https://www.carawayhome.com/braincandypod to take an additional 10% off using code BRAINCANDYPOD on your next purchase.TDM-RESERVATION: 1. Nobody wants to think about the possibility of losing their spouse to Alzheimer's. But what if planning ahead meant considering something as unexpected as divorce? That's exactly the question Susan is grappling with today. Susan is 62, still working, and earning around $100K a year. Her husband is 65 and already retired. Together they've built a solid financial foundation — over $778K in investments, $181K in savings, and more than $762K in assets, all with no debt. By most measures, they're in great shape. But the potential cost of memory care and assisted living has them worried that everything they've worked for could be wiped out. In this episode, Jean and Susan cover: What a "Medicaid divorce" actually is, and whether it's a legitimate financial strategy How Medicaid spend-down rules work and what they mean for married couples What asset protection strategies exist beyond divorce How to think through the emotional and financial costs of planning for a spouse's cognitive decline If today's conversation made you think about how to protect your retirement, Jean's new book, The Forever Paycheck, is the perfect next step. If you're ready to get measured results for both personally and professionally, schedule an appointment with Jahmaal What if the thing that makes your brand work is the part you keep trying to polish out? I sat down with Brynne Krispin, founder and CEO of Cause Fokus, for a conversation about personal branding, perfectionism, self-trust, burnout, boundaries, and what it really takes to become visible without losing yourself in the process. Brynne shares how her own life cracking open forced her to rebuild from a place of alignment instead of scarcity, and how that season shaped the way she thinks about visibility, trust, and building a brand that can actually last. We talked about why people connect with what is real, why your “better way moment” matters, and why sustainable authority is not built by copying templates or chasing vanity metrics. If you are building a business, stepping into thought leadership, trying to grow a side project, or learning how to show up with more clarity and less fear, this conversation is for you. Episode Highlights: 0:00 - Intro 2:09 - Brynne's favorite music and what it reveals about her work 4:21 - Why perfectionism keeps people from building trust 6:13 - Self-trust, mistakes, and learning as you go 12:51 - Brynne's story of rebuilding from survival mode 18:11 - Breaking out of scarcity and choosing alignment 21:45 - Finding your “better way moment” 26:51 - Why a strong brand should repel the wrong people 28:23 - How alignment shapes who you attract 31:20 - Why brand work often goes deeper than content 34:12 - Boundaries, health, and building something sustainable 39:23 - How Cause Fokus helps leaders build authority online 41:43 - Episode wrap-up and final thoughts CONNECT WITH JAHMAAL LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jahmaalmarshall/ Website: https://listenthenspeak.com/ BUY ME A Coffee - with this link: https://buymeacoffee.com/listenthenspeak?new=1 Interested in learning more about Brynne? Divorce Doesn't Need to Be Solved by EOD
Most men enter divorce feeling like a bad person. Shamed. Labeled. Often called a narcissist. This episode is for that man. Because the truth is, you are not broken. You are under-resourced. And there is a profound difference. In this solo episode, Karen McMahon speaks directly to the divorcing dad who is white-knuckling it through one of the hardest seasons of his life, carrying shame he didn't earn, fighting for children he loves deeply, and quietly wondering if he's going to make it through this. The answer is yes. And this episode shows you how. Karen addresses the emotional depth of men that nobody is acknowledging, the very real dangers that emerge when divorcing dads don't get support, and the brilliance... yes, brilliance... that becomes possible when they do. What you'll take away: 1. The truth about your emotional life You feel more than anyone has ever given you credit for. You've just never been given the tools, the language, or the permission to work with it. That changes here. 2. The stats that should stop us all cold Divorcing men are among the most at-risk demographics on the planet. The numbers are sobering. The silence around them is unacceptable. Karen names them, because someone has to. 3. Fight for your kids and your right to father them Her version of reality is not the truth. The courts are not automatically stacked against you. And keeping the peace at the expense of your presence is not protecting your children. It is costing them. Trust what you innately know they need from you. 4. Trust your instincts as a dad You parent differently than mom. That is not a weakness. It is exactly what your children need, and only you can give it. Karen shares a powerful story that will change how you see yourself as a father. 5. Roll up your sleeves The hard, vulnerable, and courageous work of healing your wounds and refining your character is not optional if you want to emerge from this as the man and father your children deserve. This episode shows you exactly where to begin. 6. Break the chain The generational patterns that quietly led you here, they stop with you. This painful season is your invitation to become the man who was always in there, waiting to be found. In this episode Karen also covers: Why men feel deeply and why nobody is talking about it The dangerous edge men reach when emotional capacity runs out Why caving and controlling are both driven by fear and what to do instead How to evict your ex from your mental space and reclaim your own thinking Why silence and boundaries do more heavy lifting than any argument ever will The Michelangelo principle and what it means for who you're becoming Why divorce is the most powerful doorway men walk through to do their inner work Resources mentioned in this episode:
Less than a week ago we reported that Jelly Roll was getting a divorce but it's their behavior now that's making headlines, just not for the reasons you think.
Divorce after breast cancer is rarely talked about openly, even though many people quietly navigate this reality, and that silence is part of what makes the experience feel so isolating. In this conversation, Asha Miller shares her experience of living through breast cancer within a long-term marriage and what it was like when that marriage later ended. Her story reflects a layered and often unacknowledged grief: the end of a relationship, the aftershocks of illness, and the process of rebuilding identity from both. Together, we discuss how breast cancer can affect communication, connection, and self-perception within a relationship, the challenges of starting over after divorce, and the strength it takes to rebuild a life after multiple losses. Most importantly, this episode is a reminder that you are not alone in starting over after everything changes.

On today's episode of Juicy Scoop, I am breaking down the absolute shocker that Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO are divorcing! Is this split completely manufactured, or was the whole marriage a total sham from the start? I'm also diving into the Father's Day social media madness, calling out which celebrities actually celebrated their former husbands and baby daddies, who chose total radio silence, and who pulled it off the best. Then, we need to talk about Million Dollar Nannies, a wild new reality show that has me completely stunned that these supposedly wealthy parents are willingly exploiting their private lives and their own children just for a fleeting taste of TV fame. I am so excited to be joined by the hilarious TikTok sensation Evan Lazarus, who blew up by masterfully recapping Bethenny Frankel's unhinged social media presence; plus, he's dishin' all about his personal ties to the Real Housewives of Rhode Island and that infamous mistress who completely hijacked the entire season. Finally, we're covering Boy George inserting himself into Dorit and PK's split, Lisa Vanderpump making nice with PK, the shocking allegations surrounding Milania Giudice's domestic violence arrest, and whether Teresa's new book cover is totally AI-generated! -Elevate your summer wardrobe. In this episode I'm answering a pressing question Christian women in difficult marriages ask: how do you find a church that will actually support you instead of silence you?Because not all churches are created equal, and the difference between a safe church and a harmful one can change everything for a woman trying to find her footing. I'll break down exactly what to look for, what to ask, and what red flags to run from.

In this episode, I react to a video in which a famous young woman defended herself and her husband after viewers criticized footage of her carrying multiple bags while pushing a stroller as he walked behind her empty-handed. What caught my attention wasn't the video itself, but the response: "Since when did women become incapable of carrying their own bags?" It sparked a larger conversation about the difference between being capable and being supported. This episode explores why expecting partnership is not the same thing as helplessness, why many women have been conditioned to prove they can do everything on their own, and why being strong doesn't mean you should always have to carry the load alone. When Nancy Howard Cobb wrote "In Lieu of Flowers: A Conversation for the Living" in the year 2000, she was ahead of her time. Little did she know that the cultural appetite for stories about mortality would only continue to grow, and that her book would be republished more than two decades later. In this interview, Nancy explores the deaths of her parents, the loss of a close friend, and the shattering discovery of a marriage built on lies. Leanne shares her personal journey of being diagnosed later in life after her son was identified as having ADHD, and how that discovery transformed both her understanding of herself and the work she does today. They explore why ADHD often presents differently in women than in men, why so many women go undiagnosed for years, and how common challenges such as overwhelm, time blindness, anxiety, emotional sensitivity, and organization can become even more pronounced during periods of major life transition.Leanne offers practical strategies for managing the demands of divorce, including gathering documentation, working effectively with attorneys and professionals, breaking overwhelming tasks into manageable steps, and creating systems that work with your brain rather than against it.This conversation is valuable whether you have been diagnosed with ADHD, suspect you may be neurodivergent, or simply find yourself struggling with overwhelm during difficult life transitions. Most importantly, Leanne reminds us that we are not alone, and that understanding how our brains work can be one of the most powerful tools for moving forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.Mardi and Leanne explore:• Why ADHD often looks different in women than in men• The connection between ADHD, anxiety, and overwhelm• How neurodivergence can impact relationships and communication• Strategies for managing time blindness and procrastination• How to work more effectively with attorneys and divorce professionals• The importance of self-compassion during major life transitions• Why community and support matter when navigating divorce and ADHDAbout the Guest:Leanne Gawley is the founder of The ADHD Advantage with Leanne Gawley, a Calgary-based coaching practice serving women in leadership and neurodivergent professionals and families. A former C-Suite finance executive and late-diagnosed woman with ADHD, Leanne knows firsthand how an ADHD brain can quietly complicate the things that look simple on paper: staying on top of deadlines, keeping files organized, and communicating clearly when emotions are running high. She brings her lived experience alongside her CPA, MBA, and ICF ACC credentials to help clients build systems that actually work for their brains, not against them.Leanne is also a Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional with deep roots in neurodiversity advocacy and workplace inclusion. She coaches virtually worldwide and is currently writing her first book, Brilliant and Wired Differently: The ADHD Advantage. For Leanne's gift: https://adhd.leannegawley.ca/To connect:website: www.leannegawley.caLinkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/lgawley/Instagram: @leanne.gawleyAbout the HostMardi Winder is a Strategic Divorce Consultant and High-Conflict Divorce Coach who helps high-achieving individuals navigate divorce with clarity, confidence, and control. WHO THIS EPISODE HELPS: Anyone navigating grief, trauma, divorce, childhood loss, PTSD, depression, emotional healing, or non-death grief experiences that still carry lasting pain.WHAT LISTENERS WILL GET: A powerful conversation about grief beyond death, childhood trauma, emotional validation, mental health, resilience, healing after divorce, and how loss can shape the course of an entire life.DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gregory T. Obert spends his career helping people work through trauma, PTSD, depression, grief, and emotional pain, but long before becoming a psychologist, he was a teenager struggling through the collapse of his parents' marriage and the loss of the life he thought he knew. In this deeply personal conversation with Nick, Dr. Greg shares how childhood grief, depression, and emotional isolation shaped his future. He discusses the often-overlooked grief that accompanies divorce, family dysfunction, autism within families, and the loss of expected relationships. Together, Nick and Dr. Greg explore why society struggles to recognize non-death grief and how trauma extends far beyond the experiences most people associate with PTSD. They examine the importance of emotional validation, the damage caused when children's feelings are dismissed, and the role supportive adults can play in healing. Dr. Greg also reflects on the therapist who changed his life, the mentor who helped shape his future, and the experiences that ultimately led him into psychology. This episode is an honest, insightful exploration of grief, trauma, resilience, mental health, and the healing power of being truly seen and heard. This episode answers: Can divorce cause grief and trauma even when nobody dies? How does childhood grief affect mental health later in life? What is the difference between trauma and PTSD? Why do people dismiss non-death grief experiences? How can therapy help someone process grief, loss, and emotional pain? Key Takeaways: Grief is not limited to death and can emerge from divorce, family changes, lost relationships, and disrupted expectations. Children often recognize emotional problems long before adults realize they do. Emotional validation can be life-changing for someone struggling with grief or trauma. Trauma exists on a spectrum and does not always meet the criteria for PTSD. Healing often begins when people stop minimizing their pain and allow themselves to address it honestly.DR. Enjoy the episode? Send us a text!Everyone told Scott to walk away. The affair. The lies. The cold distance that built for months. On paper, this was the marriage other people would tell you to end and not feel bad about it.He didn't walk away. Not because he was naive. Not because he excused anything. Because he still loved his wife, and he could not live with never having tried. In this conversation, Scott takes me back to 2019, the year his marriage came apart, and walks me through how it came all the way back.He found out at 4 in the morning. The phone going off. His wife not in the bed. The search he ran to figure out who was texting her is the thing that led him to Marriage Helper. What he learned there changed how he showed up.He stopped reacting. He stopped trying to control her. He stayed calm in the exact moments most people detonate. By the time his daughter pulled him aside and asked if he knew, he was already further into his own healing than anyone around him realized. Here is the part people argue with me about."You're letting the cheater off the hook." "Once a cheater, always a cheater." We see it in the comments every week. Scott answers it head on. He never permitted anything. He was powerless to control someone else's choices. Accepting what you cannot control is not the same as excusing it.For a year, they were divorced in every way but the judge's signature. She moved states away. The settlement was nearly done. Then she came home. One year to the day after the workshop they attended together.Today their marriage is stronger than it was in the first 24 years. In this episode, I explore why failure is not something to hide, but something to study, share, and even celebrate. Drawing inspiration from the “Flops” exhibition at the Musée des Arts et Métiers, I look at how psychology, religion, science, and art all reveal the same truth: my mistakes are often the very things that shape my character, deepen my relationships, and point me toward a more meaningful life. Why failed products like BIC for Her and New Coke can teach us about resilienceThe psychology of growth mindset, self-compassion, and learning from mistakesHow traditions like Kintsugi and teshuvah honor repair over perfectionStories of famous failures from Thomas Edison to J.K.
