Jo is a psychologist and psychotherapist who specializes in mental health and well-being. She shares her journey with intermittent fasting, which began in earnest about a year ago after listening to Gin's appearance on the Zoe podcast. Before that, she had experimented with 5:2 fasting for several years but found it ineffective and also difficult due to not practicing the clean fast. Jo recounts how learning about clean fasting was transformative, leading to rapid and noticeable changes in how she felt, changes in her body, and changes in her relationship with food.Jo discusses her past struggles with weight, starting from childhood, including how calorie counting and diet culture negatively affected her. She highlights the relief and freedom she felt when she stopped focusing on calories and began listening to her body. This change has improved her relationship with food, allowing her to enjoy meals fully without the guilt and anxiety that used to accompany eating. Jo explains how the clean fast has replaced her former reliance on snacks and emotional eating. The conversation delves into the psychological aspects of dieting and body image, with Jo reflecting on how her identity was tied to being overweight for much of her life. Through intermittent fasting, she has redefined her self-perception and embraced a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Jo also shares insights from her experience with the Zoe program, which complemented her fasting regimen by focusing on personalized nutrition. In closing, Jo offers advice to those new to intermittent fasting. She suggests starting with a broad eating window to ease into the process comfortably and gradually shifting to shorter windows as the body's adaptation improves. This gradual approach allows individuals to find a natural balance that feels right for them, enabling them to enjoy the benefits of intermittent fasting in a way that is sustainable.Get Gin's books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Does your to-do list feel endless? Try this short, guided practice to help you reflect, reconnect, and release the pressure to do it all perfectly. How To Do This Practice: Find a Comfortable Posture: Sit or stand tall with a sense of dignity, grounded, yet relaxed. Take Three Cleansing Breaths: Inhale twice through the nose, then exhale slowly through the mouth. Repeat this three times to settle into the moment. Scan Your Body from Head to Toe: Gently bring your attention to each part of your body, noticing sensations and letting go of any tension as you move downward. Visualize Your To-Do List as Floating Bubbles: Imagine each task as a bubble above you. Observe them without judgment, simply noticing their presence. Ask Reflective Questions: Is it the number of tasks that's overwhelming, or is it fear of forgetting, failing, or letting someone down? What's truly fueling your stress? Recenter with Gratitude and Self-Compassion: Acknowledge that being needed is a form of purpose. Remind yourself that even if not everything gets done, you are still enough and already whole. “A lot of people when they go out and do things [after an injury] have this vengeance. It's always like, ‘I'm doing it for the people who counted me out,' or ‘I'm doing it for revenge.' But I'm doing it for the people who say I can do it because I have such an overwhelming amount of people who have been supportive and have known I can come back. It's so cool to prove them right.”It's not every day that an athlete disappears from racing for nearly three years—undergoes multiple surgeries, leaves their training group, and then returns to the track to drop a 1:44 in their first 800m back. But that's exactly what Donavan Brazier just did.The former world champion, American record holder, and longtime face of U.S. middle-distance running made a stunning comeback in Nashville this past weekend—not just running well, but dominating the field and flashing the brilliance that once made him one of the most electrifying athletes in the sport. If you've followed Donavan's career, you know the road back has been anything but easy. He's battled injuries, Achilles surgeries, a fractured tibia, bursitis—over 1,000 days without stepping onto a start line. He could have walked away. No one would have blamed him. But he didn't.Today, we dive into why. What kept him going? What was it like to toe the line again? And how does he see himself fitting into the most competitive U.S. 800m field in years? We reflect on the highs, the lows, the what-ifs and look ahead at what's next for both Donavan and the event he helped redefine. This is a story about resilience, patience, perspective—and the kind of raw talent that refuses to fade.Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Donavan Brazier | @donavanbrazier on InstagramSUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a prebiotic soda that tastes like a throwback to your favorite childhood drinks, but it's loaded with benefits that your body will thank you for. We hit the ground running on today's show, diving straight into some good old-fashioned fun—at the Oilers' expense. Are we seeing the early signs of Las Olas fever? Or is it something even more contagious—El Bola madness? Either way, we were here for all of it. The first hour? Pure roast mode. No one was safe. We kicked things off clowning on the Knicks, who somehow managed to get turned down by not one, but two head coaches—Ime Udoka and Jason Kidd. That's right, they didn't even get a meeting. New York basketball: never a dull moment, always a fresh punchline. We wrapped the hour with a trip down the ‘Road to Repeat'. The countdown is on—we want hockey back yesterday. And yes, we went full tilt talking about that guy. You know the one. Absolute lunatic on the ice. A total menace. The kind of guy who doesn't just play hockey—he is hockey. You know what I mean? Just a crazy mother-bleeper doing crazy mother-bleeper things. That's the sport, baby!
We kicked things off roasting the Oilers and Knicks—New York somehow got curved by two coaches without even a meeting. Brutal. Then it was all aboard the Road to Repeat, hyping up the Panthers and that one absolutely unhinged hockey dude we all love. Tobin and Leroy went full “Hour Tua,” breaking down Dolphins minicamp audio, Tua's self-awareness, and what it means for the season. Hot takes followed: Myles Garrett's QB graveyard, Burrow's calm confidence, and yes—Bill Belichick's young girlfriend made the show. Father's Day displays got roasted, Jaime Jaquez Jr. got real about mental health, and Leroy dropped a passionate rant. Then it was Rats Off a Ship time—Sandy Alcantara, Aaron Rodgers takes, and even cracked-out raccoons made the list. Finally, Tobin lost it over Durant-Suns trade rumors, yelling toward Pat Riley like he might actually hear him. Chaos ensued with Leroy, but somehow… they agreed in the end? We cooled it off with some baseball, football, and Panthers vs. Oilers Game 3 hype. Let's go Cats!
“There is a pretty significant amount of track and field athletes for whom a college opportunity will only come through the participation of track and field. That is something we need to really educate the public around. Coining the term, ‘the opportunity sport,' encapsulates all of that. It's something I believe the broader public can get understanding around.”Starting July 1, NCAA Division I schools can directly pay athletes for the first time ever. This shift follows the House v. NCAA antitrust settlement, approved last week by Judge Claudia Wilken. The $2.8B deal doesn't make athletes employees, but it does allow them to finally receive a share of the billions in revenue they help generate. Schools will be able to offer up to $20.5M annually to student-athletes across all sports (amounts not required to be equal). It also tightens oversight of NIL collectives via a new clearinghouse that ensures deals are “fair-market value.” After major pushback over lost roster spots, the final version protects current and incoming athletes, though schools aren't required to restore those spots. Now, athletic departments are racing to implement these changes. Some are lobbying Congress for federal regulation, hoping this deal becomes a stepping stone toward nationwide legislation. Either way, college sports — and particularly cross country and track — will never look the same.Mentioned in this episode…Read: Track Is America's Opportunity Sport. When Joey Pepperoni and Marty McFly launched Pizza Bros in 2019, they saw a pizza scene obsessed with tradition—and asked: Where's the rebel energy? Their answer? A mobile pizza truck that crashed festivals until COVID left them bankrupt, in debt, and delivering pizzas to survive.I sat down with Joey and Marty (between oven rotations at The Imperial Hotel) to break down their phoenix-from-the-ashes comeback. We talk about their story, how getting expelled at 16 led Joey to a decade-long pizza apprenticeship, how Marty went from the fitness industry to joining his brother's dream and why legally renaming themselves was the ultimate branding power move. The bottom line? The Pizza Bros story isn't just a pizza story—it's a masterclass in grit. Listen. Order a pizza. “I Don’t Like Playing with My Kids” – Why Play Still Matters If the idea of playing Barbies or dragons makes you groan… you’re not alone. In this episode, Justin and Kylie tackle a parenting confession that many are afraid to admit: “I don’t like playing with my kids.” Drawing from emotional intelligence research and real-life experience, they unpack why play matters (even if it’s not your favourite), how to make it meaningful and manageable, and why it’s one of the simplest ways to build connection, confidence, and emotional regulation in your child. KEY POINTS Play is not a luxury—it’s essential.Play builds emotional intelligence, connection, and social skills better than almost anything else. It’s not about doing it ‘right’.Play works best when it’s spontaneous, simple, and mutually enjoyable—not when it’s forced or scripted. The emotional impact is profound.Play regulates emotions, reduces tension, strengthens relationships, and helps kids feel seen, heard, and valued. The secret is in the interaction. What makes play powerful is the back-and-forth: the jokes, the giggles, the shared creativity—not the activity itself. A little goes a long way.Just 5–10 minutes of intentional play can fill your child’s emotional cup and help them play independently afterwards. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “Play is not about perfection—it’s about connection and presence.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Happy Families Membership – parenting tools & webinars happyfamilies.com.au – resources for raising emotionally intelligent kids Ethan Kross, Shift ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Find a 5–10 minute window each dayYou don’t need hours. Commit to short, fully present bursts of play—no phones, no multitasking. Gamify the mundaneTurn routines into playful challenges: “Can you hop to the bathroom on one foot?” or “Let’s race to tidy up.” Let your child leadAsk: “How could we make this more fun?” Give them a sense of autonomy and watch their creativity bloom. But if you're looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community. In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Bridget Mazenkas from Massachusetts.Bridget is a social worker for a healthcare system and a mom of two boys. Bridget discusses her tumultuous past, including struggles with addiction that began at 17 and her path to recovery at 24, which marked the start of her health journey. Bridget also recounts her early battles with weight, stemming from childhood insecurities and a series of diets, starting from Weight Watchers at a young age. She explored various diet plans over the years, including keto, Noom, and even a celebrity diet she acquired through a relative, but none provided lasting results. After a second open-heart surgery in 2020, Bridget was advised by a cardiologist to try intermittent fasting, a recommendation that resonated with her after previous unsuccessful attempts. Once she learned about the importance of the clean fast, Bridget found success, losing 30 pounds from June to October 2021 with an initial morning eating window and later adapting to Alternate Day Fasting (ADF). Her schedule evolved as she balanced a demanding life as a mother, wife, and professional, finding ADF the most suitable for her lifestyle.Bridget attributes part of her success to the support of her husband, who also engages in intermittent fasting, as well as the community and resources she discovered along the way, including Gin's books and podcasts. Her taste in food has significantly shifted, and she now enjoys a variety of fruits and vegetables that she didn't appreciate before. Despite the occasional struggle with emotional eating, Bridget focuses on mindful eating and maintaining the balance she has achieved.Bridget's advice to those starting out with intermittent fasting is to find a support system or a "fasting buddy," emphasizing the importance of community and shared experiences. This support mirrors her recovery journey, where having a community made a significant difference. Listening to others' stories on the podcast and connecting with like-minded individuals helped her maintain motivation and perspective. She wants listeners to know that while confronting skepticism from others, what truly matters is the health and well-being that fasting has brought her, a message she feels is both empowering and universal.Get Gin's books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Do mega-funds really distort early-stage deals? And how should GPs talk to LPs about secondaries, exits, and… failure? Beezer also dives into how newer GPs are using content, transparency, and AI tools to differentiate, and why Sapphire has taken a public voice when so many LPs have stayed quiet. If you've ever asked “What do LPs really care about?” or “How can I build enduring conviction with institutional investors?” — this episode has the answers.Subscribe to Carta's weekly Data Minute newsletter: https://carta.com/subscribe/data-newsletter-sign-up/Explore interactive startup and VC data, with Carta's Data Desk: https://carta.com/data-desk/Chapters:01:14 – Are mega-funds distorting early-stage VC?03:38 – Why nimble managers can win the best early deals05:04 – The myth of aiming for a “base hit” in venture06:57 – Will the best founders always land at the biggest funds?08:08 – Repeat founders vs first-timers in the AI age08:55 – Why Sapphire is still bullish on emerging managers09:28 – How LPs think about adding a new GP to their portfolio11:04 – Relationship inertia: it's not just about the numbers12:14 – The real reasons LPs don't shift allocations more13:36 – Why reporting is fundamentally harder in venture14:03 – Hidden strengths of today's emerging managers15:03 – Better reporting formats: from Notion pages to CEO videos16:24 – Reimagining the Annual General Meeting (AGM)18:18 – The risk of communicating only in failures19:53 – Self-regulating GPs: what long-term LPs really look for21:20 – Learning from anti-portfolio decisions23:49 – Qualitative qualities LPs remember: insight and differentiation25:33 – Generalist funds in an AI-driven market26:22 – How pattern recognition drives better decision-making28:15 – Scouting, accelerators, and thoughtful experimentation29:07 – Why it's gotten harder to stand out as a new manager30:17 – The liquidity crisis: is this the worst it's ever been?32:14 – Normalizing secondaries: opportunity or stigma?33:34 – Why secondaries are often still so uncomfortable36:52 – Founder secondaries and aligning incentives38:20 – Term sheet innovation and collaborative norm-setting39:39 – Is venture broken? “When I saw the time, I was like, ‘I did that. We are back. I'm me again…' It felt so good to be like, ‘I'm back and doing things as good as I know how to do them, which I haven't done in a while. It felt really good!”My guest for today's episode is one of the most electrifying athletes in track and field right now: Anna Hall. The two-time decathlon Olympic champion Ashton Eaton went as far as to say that she might be one of the best athletes on earth right now.Just days after winning the Hypomeeting in Götzis with 7,032 points, Hall now sits second on the all-time heptathlon list, tied with Carolina Kluft and trailing only her mentor, the great Jackie Joyner-Kersee. That mark was achieved with four personal bests, including a gutsy 2:01 in the 800m – a reminder that the final event of the heptathlon was more than a win. It was a comeback statement after last summer's heartbreaking fifth place finish at the Paris Olympics. In this conversation, Anna opens up about the emotional weight of that Olympic result, the rehab process after knee surgery, and how this performance in Austria healed her. We also talk about what it means to chase a legend and have such a close connection with someone like Jackie Joyner-Kersee, the mental and physical toll of the heptathlon, and what's next as she eyes a potential world title this fall. She's looking to become just the second American to win gold in the heptathlon after Jackie Joyner-Kersee won in 1987 and 1993. Anna is the kind of athlete who competes with heart, guts, and joy.Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Anna Hall | @annaa.hall on Instagram SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSOLIPOP: Olipop is a prebiotic soda that tastes like a throwback to your favorite childhood drinks, but it's loaded with benefits that your body will thank you for. It's Mandy Fisher here, your Voiceover actor and creative coach. Today I want to dive into something that's been on my mind a lot: how the neuroscience of decision-making can help us as actors and creative professionals. Because we're not just making choices in auditions or on stage. We're making decisions every single day that shape our careers, relationships, and—let's be real—our self-worth. How the Brain Guides Our Creative Decisions Let's talk brain science for a sec. The prefrontal cortex? It's the part of the brain handling complex thoughts and decisions, like our personal command center. Think of it like that alien in Men in Black—the one sitting up front, pulling the strings. Then there's the hippocampus, which stores memories and helps us imagine what's next. They're constantly in conversation, helping us weigh options and see potential outcomes. Understanding how these parts of the brain work together is powerful. It reminds us that strategic thinking isn't just some abstract idea. It's already woven into the way our brains work, whether we realize it or not. A Simple Challenge to Build Strategic Thinking I want to offer you a challenge. Pick one decision you've been dancing around—something big or small, doesn't matter. Think about the risks, the rewards, and what those future scenarios might look like. Then go ahead and make the decision. After a week, check back in with yourself. How did it feel? What did you learn? This exercise can help you see that you're already more strategic than you give yourself credit for. It's about bringing that awareness to the forefront, so you can start making choices with more clarity and intention. Limiting Beliefs: The Invisible Blocks to Your Success But here's the thing: decision-making isn't just about what's outside of us. It's also about what's going on inside. I'm talking about those limiting beliefs. You know, the ones that say, “I'm not good enough,” or “There's too much competition.” These thoughts show up for so many of us in the acting world. These beliefs often come from past experiences, family dynamics, or even well-meaning but misguided advice. And they can really hold us back if we're not paying attention. Another Challenge: Reframe Those Old Beliefs So here's another challenge. Name one limiting belief that's been lurking in the background. Ask yourself: Is this really true? Where did it come from? Then see if you can reframe it into something more helpful. Like changing “I'm not good at public speaking” to “I can improve my public speaking with practice.” Write it down. Repeat it to yourself. And take one small action that lines up with that new belief—like volunteering for a presentation or sharing your work with a trusted friend. Living Authentically in Your Acting Career At the heart of all of this? It's not just about making smart moves. It's about making choices that feel authentic to you as an actor, as a creative, as a human. When you understand how your brain works, and when you let go of those old beliefs that no longer serve you, you start to make decisions that feel more like you. So that's my invitation: try these challenges. And if you do, I'd love to hear about it. Shoot me an email at mandy@actingbusinessbootcamp.com. I love hearing from actors who are ready to ditch the autopilot and start building careers that actually feel fulfilling. If you know someone else who might need this gentle nudge, pass it along. Let's keep this conversation going. Want to Take This Work Deeper? Join our Weekly Accountability Group for actors and get the kind of support that helps you keep growing, testing new ideas, and showing up for yourself. Two weeks free to see if it's the right fit.

In this conversation, Omari Richins, MPH discusses the common misconceptions surrounding the first job in public health, emphasizing that it is merely a starting point rather than a final destination. He encourages listeners to view their early career experiences as opportunities for learning and growth, rather than as definitive measures of success. He highlights the importance of aligning one's career with personal values and interests, and reassures that there is no singular path to success in public health.

A heavy metal tribute to the most savage machines Mercedes-Benz has ever created — the Black Series beasts. From the track to the street, this is raw power in musical form. Buckle up and let the AMG scream.
Take a joyride through the wonderfully weird world of the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee! From three-wheeled wonders to propeller-powered oddballs, this toe-tapping tune celebrates the most eccentric cars you've never heard of—but won't forget once you see them. This is for the dreamers, the tinkerers, and the collectors who know that weird is wonderful.
There's a certain kind of magic that happens when a man and his machine meet beneath the shade of an old oak tree. "Under the Oak" is a heartfelt tribute to every shadetree mechanic who's ever turned a wrench, chased a dream, and kept the past alive one bolt at a time. From rusted muscle cars to backyard repairs, this song honors the grit, passion, and fading freedom of wrenching the old-school way.
Take a ride back in time with “Sunday Drive,” a heartfelt tribute to the fading tradition of family road trips. This nostalgic tune captures the simple joy of cruising country roads in a wood-paneled station wagon, windows down, and no destination in mind—just togetherness. If you miss the days of golden skies, cassette tapes, and mom's picnic basket in the backseat, this song is for you.
Buckle up and blast off with License to Swerve, the ultimate rock anthem for every teenager who's ever squealed out of the DMV parking lot like they're in a Fast & Furious audition. Crank up the volume and ride shotgun as our hero learns the rules of the road… mostly by breaking them.
What do a propeller-powered car, a three-wheeled French oddity, and a Czech aerodynamic marvel have in common? They all live under one roof at the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville—and today, we're joined by the man behind it all: Jeff Lane. As this year's Featured Collector at the Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance, Jeff takes us inside his world of weird and wonderful vehicles. From amphibious cars to forgotten micro-marques, Jeff shares stories from decades of collecting the eccentric, the experimental, and the downright odd. We also preview what cars will be featured on the show field this year and explore why preserving the peculiar matters more than ever. Whether you're into rare Euro imports or just love a good garage story, this episode is full of surprises.

This newfound clarity helped her realize a misalignment with her teaching career, prompting her to retire and explore new ventures like writing children's books and starting her coaching business. She also discusses overcoming an "all-or-nothing" mindset, which now empowers her to make choices in alignment with her health and life goals.Throughout the conversation, Lisa highlights significant personal victories, including reduced digestive issues and pain, improved thyroid health, and increased mental clarity. She also touches upon the impact of diet culture and how intermittent fasting helped her detach from its toxic grip. Lisa's story emphasizes the importance of adaptation and self-awareness, noting her journey of learning to listen to hunger cues and understand personal body signals over pre-set eating schedules.Lisa concludes with advice for newcomers to intermittent fasting, urging them to practice clean fasting, to be patient and give the lifestyle time to show results, and to surround themselves with supportive, like-minded communities.
