How does it feel to be actively retraining your nervous system? You're stepping out of survival mode and finding your footing. Hitting the middle of the week is often when external demands peak, making today's practice the perfect opportunity to witness your own growth and resilience. You are doing an incredible job sticking with this commitment to your inner peace—keep going. Today, our developmental arc is Protect. If you often finish your day feeling completely depleted, over-stimulated, or emotionally exhausted from absorbing the stress of your environment, your energetic boundaries are leaking. In this session, we explore the somatic neuroscience of energy conservation and introduce a high-performance physical seal—the Pran Mudra—to instantly ground your nervous system, stop sensory overload, and build a protective boundary around your peace. In This Episode, You'll Discover: The Porous Nervous System: The biological reason why high-achievers absorb environmental anxiety and hit sensory burnout fast. The Pran Mudra Protocol: How closing the nerve circuits in your fingers acts as a biological battery charger to protect your daily stamina. Somatic Shielding: A guided 10-minute meditation to help you drop your cortisol baseline, stop over-functioning for others, and reclaim your personal sovereignty. A Message for Your Heart You likely deeply care for everything and everyone in your orbit. You may be constantly holding up a massive vision, managing complex timelines, and anchoring the spaces you occupy. Because your heart is so big, it can be incredibly easy to let the chaotic energy of the outside world bleed into your personal sanctuary. Today, I want to remind you that protecting your peace is not selfish—it is an act of supreme inner sovereignty. You cannot serve from an empty well, and you do not have to be a sponge for the stress of the world to be successful. By holding the Pran Mudra today, you are safely sealing your borders and declaring that your peace is non-negotiable. Step back into your own power. You are doing an extraordinary job. This is day 4 of a 7-day meditation series, 3514-3520 Somatic Stress Relief.   THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY   If you are tired of waking up already feeling overwhelmed, running on adrenaline, and dealing with that persistent background anxiety that makes it impossible to focus, you are in the exact right place.   This week, we are stepping into a profound, 7-day somatic experience designed to pull you out of survival mode and return you to a state of calm, unshakeable power.   We aren't just going to talk about peace; we are going to build it directly into your biology. Over the next seven days, we will layer powerful, science-backed tools—including ancient hand mudras like the Pran Mudra, deep rhythmic breathing protocols, target chakra alignments, and restorative physical resets—to train your body that it is safe to let go.   Whether you are navigating a high-velocity career, balancing a mountain of daily demands, or simply trying to quiet an overactive mind before bed, this series is your ultimate biological reset button. Get ready to lower your cortisol, drop your shoulders, and reclaim your inner sovereignty.   THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: THE 30-SECOND COLD SPLASH At the end of your morning shower, turn the handle to cold for just 30 seconds. Alternatively, fill a bowl with ice water and submerge your face up to your temples for 10 seconds.   MEDITATION TECHNIQUES: DAY 1: VISUALIZATION Visualize yourself seated next to people who calm you.   DAY 2: AFFIRMATION "My body is safe, and I am at peace."   DAY 3: THE EXTENDED EXHALE BREATHING TECHNIQUE Inhale through your nose for a count of 4, feeling your belly expand. Hold gently at the top for a count of 4. Exhale slowly through pursed lips (like breathing through a straw) for a count of 8. Repeat for 3 to 5 cycles to instantly lower your heart rate and drop cortisol levels. DAY 4: PRAN MUDRA (THE LIFE FORCE SEAL) This mudra acts like a grounding cord for a scattered, anxious mind while simultaneously replenishing drained energy reserves without overstimulating your system. How to do it: On both hands, bring the tips of your ring finger and pinky finger to touch the tip of your thumb. Keep your index and middle fingers extended straight out. Rest your hands on your lap, palms facing up. DAY 5: MULADHARA ROOT CHAKRA When the nervous system is overwhelmed, energy flies upward into a swirling vortex of overthinking. Dropping your awareness down to the Root Chakra—located at the base of your spine—anchors you. Visualize a rich, warm, steady crimson light grounding you deeply into the solid earth beneath you.   DAY 6: LAYER ALL THE TECHNIQUES TOGETHER   DAY 7: REFLECTION AND CELEBRATION   SHARE YOUR MEDITATION JOURNEY WITH YOUR FELLOW MEDITATORS Let's connect and inspire each other! It's time to get out of your head and ground yourself. Welcome to Day 3 of our master series, Somatic Stress Relief. Today, our developmental arc is Ground. When you are managing an intense workload, your attention easily becomes scattered, leaving you feeling mentally untethered and physically exhausted. I n this session, we explore the precise neurobiology of somatic grounding and introduce an immediate physical intervention: the 4-4-8 Extended Exhale repeated exactly three times to instantly halt a frantic adrenaline spike and drop you back into a state of steady, sovereign presence. In This Episode, You'll Discover: The Physics of Overwhelm: How shallow, chest-based breathing traps your brain in an anxiety loop and drains your focus. The 3-Cycle Vagus Nerve Reset: The biological shift that occurs during each phase of the 4-4-8 breathing pacing. Reclaiming Your Foundation: A guided 10-minute somatic breathwork session to drop your internal center of gravity, melt physical tension, and anchor your mind. A Message for Your Heart The noise of a busy week can pull you out of your center. When you are managing endless details, navigating complex projects, and carrying a major vision, it can feel like you are being blown about by every passing wind. Today, I want to remind you that you do not have to be at the mercy of the chaos around you. You are the deep-rooted tree, not the leaves swirling in the storm. By pausing for just three conscious breaths today, you are reclaiming your baseline power. You are telling the world: 'I will not be rushed.' Let the quiet, steady weight of your own body remind you of your absolute resilience today. You are doing an extraordinary job. This is day 3 of a 7-day meditation series, 3514-3520 Somatic Stress Relief. Most people get their hormone levels tested once a year — if they think about it at all. Marina Pavlovic Rivas, Co-Founder & CEO of Eli Health, is on a mission to change that.  Ramon Vela sits down with Marina for a fascinating conversation about the technology she spent nearly seven years building: a saliva-based, at-home hormone monitoring platform that delivers cortisol, testosterone, and progesterone results to your phone in minutes, giving people real-time visibility into one of the most overlooked dimensions of their health. * The gap nobody was solving. After searching online for a way to track her own hormonal data, Marina realized the product didn't exist. So she built it, spending more than six years on R&D, regulatory approval, and venture capital before bringing it to market. * Hormones affect everything, not just fertility. From energy and mood to sleep, libido, bone health, cardiac health, and cognitive performance, Marina breaks down why hormonal data is one of the most important and most underused signals in personal wellness. * The wearable parallel that puts it all in context. Checking your hormones once a year is like measuring your heartbeat once a year: technically useful, but dangerously incomplete. Eli Health gives users the same continuous feedback loop that smartwatches brought to sleep and heart rate. * A six-second saliva test. Results in 20 minutes. Users collect saliva, wait 20 minutes, then photograph the test to receive results directly in the app. Repeat over time and you build a hormonal picture that no annual blood draw could ever provide. * Cortisol first, for good reason. Eli launched with cortisol because it sits at the top of the hormonal cascade. When cortisol is off, everything else follows. Testosterone and progesterone, including their interactions, are coming next. Join us in listening to this episode for a genuinely eye-opening conversation about hormonal health, the future of at-home diagnostics, and what it means to build a category that didn't exist before you created it.  Whether you're a health-conscious consumer, a founder, or someone who just wants to understand what their body is actually telling them, this one is for you.  Visit: https://eli.health/ Try their Instant Cortisol Test: https://eli.health/products/cortisol?view=sl-44128C61 If you enjoyed this episode, please leave The Story of a Brand Show a rating and review.  Plus, don't forget to follow us on Apple and Spotify.  Your support helps us bring you more content like this! * Today's Sponsors: Saral - The Influencer OS: https://www.getsaral.com/demo SARAL is the all-in-one influencer platform that finds brand-aligned creators, automates outreach, and manages everything in one place. “Every day you go through these mental battles — how do I keep going? You're in a sport where you don't just leave college and start making a million dollars. You just got to build yourself, almost by yourself.”My guest for today's episode is Sam Blaskowski. Not a ton of you probably knew his name before this weekend. At the Music City Track Carnival in Cleveland, Tennessee last Saturday, he ran 9.89 seconds in the 100m: a wind-legal personal best that shaved 0.16 off his previous mark of 10.05, making him the fastest American of 2026 so far, and putting him at number two in the world this season. He skipped the 9.90s entirely.Sam is 23 years old. He grew up in Wisconsin, went to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse — a Division III program where his grandparents live a mile from the stadium and both his parents went to school — and graduated without ever contemplating leaving for a Division I program. He has 11 individual NCAA D3 titles. He spent the off-season working at a small regional airport to save money for his move to Florida, where he now trains with Star Athletics under Dennis Mitchell alongside Kenny Bednarek, Sha'Carri Richardson, and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. This is his first season with the group. The headline that took over the internet is that he is now the fastest white man in history, breaking Christophe Lemaître's 9.92 from 2011. Sam's own take on what he'd rather people focus on: he's number two in the world right now. That's the story he wants told.In this conversation, recorded just 48 hours after the race, Sam walks us through the full arc: the soccer and swimming background, YMCA YouTube tutorials during COVID, and the steady year-over-year drops from 10.29 to 10.13 to 10.09 to 10.05 to 9.89. We also get into what his college coach Matt Gordy unlocked in him and what Star Athletics has done to fix the back half of his race.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Sam Blaskowski | @samblaskowskiProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: When you finish a hard workout, the work isn't actually done. If you find it incredibly difficult to quiet your mind, drop your shoulders, or stop rushing even when you have downtime, your nervous system may be trapped in a chronic survival loop. In this session, we explore the science of parasympathetic recovery and introduce a powerful somatic affirmation protocol designed to rewrite your internal stress baseline and signal absolute safety to your physical body. In This Episode, You'll Discover: The Anatomy of Restless Rest: Why lying down isn't enough to heal burnout if your nervous system is still cycling adrenaline. The Neurobiology of Affirmations: How pairing specific internal phrases with body awareness directly soothes the brain's alarm system (the amygdala). The Safe Space Awakening: A guided 10-minute somatic immersion to lower your heart rate, dissolve muscle bracing, and anchor you in deep, cellular peace. A Message for Your Heart When you carry so many responsibilities and care for so many pieces of the world, your mind may convince you that staying on high alert is the only way to keep things together. Today, I want to remind you that rest is not a luxury you have to earn after everything else is finished—rest is the very foundation that protects your brilliance. You do not have to fix, force, or control a single thing in this space. You are allowed to take your hands off the wheel. Let the affirmation 'My body is safe and I am at peace' act as a soft, protective shield around your spirit today. You are doing an extraordinary job. This is day 2 of a 7-day meditation series, 3514-3520 Somatic Stress Relief. Is your home office working for you — or against you? In this solo episode, Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, walks you through seven practical steps to take back control of your workspace, clear the clutter, and create an office environment that actually supports howyou work and live. Whether you work from home full-time, manage household paperwork, or just need a space that helps you think clearly — this episode is for you. In this episode Janet covers: Step 1: Create a retention schedule — talk to your tax professional, attorney, or financial advisor to know exactly what you need to keep and what you can finally let go. Step 2: Start with the outer areas — the corners, floor space, bookshelves, and ledges you haven't touched in months. Step 3: Clear off your desk — everything comes off, then only the daily essentials go back. Step 4: Clear the bookcase — are those books and periodicals still relevant to your life today? Step 5: Purge the filing cabinet — it should be functional, not a paper graveyard. Step 6: Find a shredding event or schedule time to shred — protect your personal information and free up space. Step 7: Repeat seasonally or quarterly — maintenance is so much easier than starting from scratch. Janet also shares this week's Organizing with Janet story — a virtual client session that started with three-and-a-half inch floppy disks and outdated binders, and ended with a fully functional, efficient workspace. Taylor's Tip Time: Set a 15-minute timer and tackle just one area of your home office this week. That is all it takes to get started. TossItTuesday: Janet is letting go of greeting cards she no longer feels attached to — some going back more than 30 years. Quote of the week: "A clear desk is not just about organization. It is a declaration that you are in control of your space, your time, and your focus."   Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. It starts with your desk.   Subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with someone whose desk needs a little love.   Connect with Janet M. If you are arriving with a mind that feels crowded by endless to-do lists, background anxiety, or the heavy pressure of managing daily life, consider this episode your personal sanctuary. Today, we step away from cognitive problem-solving and drop directly into somatic grounding. Through a beautiful, extended-exhale breathing protocol, we trigger the body's natural relaxation response, melting away internal tension and returning your mind to a state of soft, unshakeable clarity.   In This Episode: Somatic Grounding: A simple, physical body-scan technique to instantly pull your awareness out of a racing mind and back into the safety of the present moment. Reclaiming Space: Learning how to hit the internal pause button on a fast-moving day so you can protect your creative energy and prevent burnout. A Message for Your Heart Are you feeling the weight of the responsibilities you carry? You may be carrying many moving parts that you are constantly balancing, decisions that rest on your shoulders, and being 'the strong one' for everyone else around you. It is beautiful how much care you pour into the world, but your heart needs care, too.   Today, I want to give you permission to put down the invisible shield you've been holding up to get through the week. You do not have to earn your right to be still, and you do not have to complete every single task before you are allowed to rest. True sovereignty means knowing when to pause the spinning world so you can fill your own cup first. You are allowed to be soft. You are allowed to take up space. Trust the quiet strength that lives inside your stillness today. You are doing a truly extraordinary job."   This is day 1 of a 7-day meditation series, 3514-3520 Somatic Stress Relief.   THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY   If you are tired of waking up already feeling overwhelmed, running on adrenaline, and dealing with that persistent background anxiety that makes it impossible to focus, you are in the exact right place. “By the time we get there, I don't think we'll leave any stone unturned for the first one. There's still room to grow, but I do think I'll be very ready.”My guest for today's episode is Emma Grace Hurley: an ASICS athlete and one of the most consistent American road racers of the last two years. She trains under Andrew and Amy Begley at Heartland Track Club in Indianapolis, and in 2026 she has already set the American Record at 8K (24:29 at the Shamrock Shuffle), won the USATF 10-Mile title at Cherry Blossom, won the 25K title at the Gate River Run and finished second at the USATF 5K Championships in her own city, running 15:00 flat to miss the sub-15 barrier by four-tenths of a second. She is also, as of this week, officially confirmed as one of the scoring members of the U.S. half marathon team for Copenhagen — one of the three athletes who were misdirected in the closing mile of the USATF Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta in March. World Athletics granted a special exception that will allow seven American women to compete, with Jess McClain, Emma Grace, and Ednah Kurgat as the scoring athletes alongside Weini Kelati. The top three official finishers — Molly Born, Carrie Ellwood, and Annie Rodenfels — will make their international debuts as non-scoring athletes. What makes Emma Grace one of the more interesting stories in American distance running right now is the shape of her career. She graduated from Furman in 2020 with a 15:57 5K personal best, quit running entirely, took a client associate job at JP Morgan, and did not think she was coming back to the sport. She is now a 15:00 road 5K runner, an 8K American record holder, a national 10-mile champion, and a two-event Worlds qualifier. She has not run a marathon yet — it's happening this fall.In this conversation, recorded in Brooklyn, we get into all of it: what it actually took to bounce back after Atlanta and immediately set a national record three weeks later, why she doesn't love the track but is a 15-flat road 5K runner, the Cherry Blossom 10-mile where she lost the overall by one second to a woman who finished seventh in the 10,000m at the Tokyo Olympics, the moment she finally felt like the long slow build was paying off, and what scares her most about the marathon block ahead.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Emma Grace Hurley | @emmagracehurleyProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: Xendurance Protein is designed specifically to help your body recover, rebuild, and get stronger after training. In this episode of Open Our Bible Together, we pick up right after Israel crosses the Jordan River on dry ground into the Promised Land—and things move forward, but not in the way you might expect. Instead of rushing straight into battle, God first tells His people to remember. Twelve stones are taken from the Jordan and set up in Gilgal as a memorial, so every generation would know—it was the Lord who made a way through the water. Then, before anything else happens, God brings Israel back to who they are. Through circumcision and the Passover, He reminds them that they are His chosen people. The manna stops after 40 years, and for the first time, they're eating from the land He promised them. It's a clear turning point—wilderness to promise… right in front of their eyes. And then they're standing in front of Jericho. No battle plan that makes sense on paper. Just instructions that require trust. Walk. Be silent. Wait. Repeat. For six days, nothing seems to happen. But on the seventh day, everything changes. The trumpets sound, the people shout, and the walls of Jericho come down—not because of military strength, but because God kept His word. And right in the middle of it all, we see Rahab and a scarlet cord—a quiet but powerful picture of rescue and redemption that points us forward to something even greater. From stones in the river to silence around a city, Joshua 4–6 reminds us that God is faithful in every step of the journey. He calls His people to trust Him, follow Him, and watch Him do what only He can do. Because when the walls come down… it's always Him. ❤ For the full episode show notes, please go to https://mfahring.com/joshua-4-6/

Welcome to Day 2 of the Body Harmony Series. Yesterday, we focused on anchoring our awareness and dropping out of a racing mind. Today, we step deeper into the body to target the physical spaces where stress, overstimulation, and daily pressure accumulate most: the neck, shoulders, and jaw. Physical tension is often just an energetic holding pattern—a subconscious attempt to control or push through our days. In this session, we use a soothing somatic body scan and gentle, spacious breathing to intentionally soften these target areas. By giving your muscles permission to unbrace, you allow your physical form to return to its natural state of open, effortless ease. A Message for Your Heart Take a slow, deep breath in, and as you exhale, feel your entire body grow a little heavier, a little softer. You don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders today. You don't have to force things into place or tighten yourself against life. There is a profound strength in letting go. Repeat this softly to yourself as you settle into quiet: "I surrender to my inner truth." Let that truth remind you that you are already whole, you are completely safe, and you are allowed to ease into this moment exactly as you are. This is day 2 of a 7-day meditation series, "Stop Procrastinating: Meditations for Overwhelm and Focus" episodes 2713-2719. THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY Today, we are stepping into a week-long journey together: The Body Harmony Series. So often, we live our lives from the neck up—caught in the momentum of a racing mind, managing endless to-do lists, and pushing through the day. But your mind is only half the story. Your body carries the rhythm of your life. It holds your stress, it remembers your long days, and right now, it might be asking you for a moment to simply rest, reset, and repair. Over the next seven days, we are going to close the gap between your mind and your body. We will be using ancient, time-tested awareness techniques and gentle somatic breathing to melt away deep physical tension, soothe your nervous system, and move out of that exhausted 'fight-or-flight' mode. By the end of this week, you won't just feel calmer—your body will feel like a sanctuary again. Let's begin this journey of deep restoration. Go ahead and settle into your space, adjust your posture, take a deep, clearing breath… and let's meditate together." THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE: Bodywise Quest This week, tune into the intuition of your body. Your body knows what you need. Honor its messages this week. MEDITATION TECHNIQUES: Day 1: Visualization   Day 2: Affirmation  "I surrender to my inner truth." Day 3: Breathing Technique  Inhale: tune into your body -- Exhale: listen to your body's needs Day 4: Mudra Technique: Mukula Mudra Touch together your fingers and thumbs on each hand. Place them over an area of your body you'd like to support. Rotate them clockwise and feel relief. Day 5: Chakra Technique: First Chakra Location: coccyx Qualities: stability, feeling grounded Color: red Element: earth Day 6: Layer Meditation Techniques Day 7: Reflection + Introspection SHARE YOUR MEDITATION JOURNEY WITH YOUR FELLOW MEDITATORS Let's connect and inspire each other! Well, that Mosque shooting disappeared faster than cocaine at a Hunter Biden party.Seattle's Democratic Socialist Mayor is losing businesses like no where else. The Colombia Tower Club just closed after 40 years. Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go has closed all their stores. Jeff Bezos left, Howard Schultz founder of Starbucks left. Their capital gains tax collection is down 50%. Per Cushman Wakefield vacancies rates are 36.5 for commercial property. Pioneer square is at 50% vacancy. The Needle, Seattle's iconic structure is now a homeless encampment. Business are running from socialist ideas and sanctuary cities. At this pace tax rates will increase on those remaining. It's just a matter of time for the city to collapse. Fewer people to tax, fewer jobs, more homeless.[X] SB – Ad against TalaricoGod is non-binary6 sexesAmerican flag complicated signalStephen Colbert signs off from late night television, and the media acts like we just watched the first moon landing, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the Beatles reuniting all at once. “Historic ratings!” they cry. “A cultural moment!”Yeah? Let's talk about those numbers.Colbert's final show pulled 6.74 million viewers. And to be fair, that is a big number by today's standards. It was the highest-rated weeknight episode he ever had. Bigger than his premiere. Way above his recent average of around 2.7 million. But here's the problem. Context is undefeated.Johnny Carson's final show in 1992 pulled over 55 million viewers. Fifty-five million. That was when America still had fewer people and fewer TVs. Carson had a 62% audience share. Think about that. Six out of every ten televisions in America were tuned into one guy sitting behind a desk telling jokes. That's not a TV host. That's a national event.Jay Leno signed off with nearly 15 million viewers. David Letterman got almost 14 million. Colbert, meanwhile, needed every other late-night host to basically go dark and funnel their audience to him just to hit half of what Leno and Letterman did.And this was his BEST night, outside of his piggybacking on a Super Bowl one night. That's like a baseball player retiring with a .195 batting average and ESPN running graphics like Babe Ruth just left Yankee Stadium. What happened to late night?Simple. It stopped being funny and started becoming political group therapy.Johnny Carson made everybody laugh. Republicans, Democrats, people who didn't know who the Vice President was. Carson wasn't trying to “educate” America. He wasn't trying to save democracy between commercials for sleep medication and adult diapers. He just wanted to be funny.Colbert and these modern late-night guys? Entirely different business model.Every night became the same routine: Trump joke. Republican joke. Democracy is ending. Commercial break. Repeat until pharmaceutical side effects include “thoughts of self-harm.”At some point, late night stopped feeling like comedy and started feeling like being trapped at a dinner party with your angry NPR cousin who uses the phrase “lived experience” while borrowing money from his parents. And then you see the staff photo.Have you seen this thing? It looked less like a comedy show staff and more like a government agency. I heard estimates anywhere from 120 to nearly 200 people working on that show.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode, we're talking about something that often gets overlooked in early language development: symbolic sounds and exclamatory words. The "vrooooms," "uh-ohs," "wheees," and "mooos" that many children use before traditional words are not meaningless sounds. They are real communication. This conversation explores why these early sounds matter so much, especially for autistic preschoolers, minimally speaking children, and children just beginning their communication journey. We'll talk about: ●      why symbolic sounds are often easier for children to produce than traditional words ●      how exclamatory words help build joint attention and connection ●      why modeling without pressure matters ●      how these sounds support regulation, engagement, and communication ●      simple ways to naturally model symbolic sounds during play and routines Because before words doesn't mean before language. Language is already there. In This Episode, You'll Learn • What symbolic sounds and exclamatory words actually are  • Why sounds like "moo," "uh-oh," and "beep beep" count as meaningful communication  • How symbolic sounds are often easier for children to produce than traditional words  • Why these sounds are especially powerful for non-speaking and minimally speaking autistic children  • How exclamatory words support joint attention and imitation  • Why communication grows through exposure, not expectation  • The importance of modeling without pressure or correction  • How repetition supports language learning and regulation  • Simple play-based ways to model symbolic sounds throughout the day  • Why joyful connection matters more than perfect responses Key Takeaways • Language begins long before traditional words emerge  • Symbolic sounds and exclamatory words are valid forms of communication  • Early communication often develops through emotionally meaningful sounds and shared experiences  • Joint attention and connection are foundational to language learning  • Modeling language without pressure creates safer opportunities for communication growth  • Repetition supports learning, regulation, and confidence  • Communication should never be measured only by spoken words  • Joy, connection, and shared attention are powerful language-building tools Try This • Add symbolic sounds naturally into play routines like cars, animals, bubbles, or sensory bins  • Use exclamatory words during real moments: "uh-oh," "wow," "whoa," and "oops!"  • Pause after modeling a sound and give the child space to process  • Match your facial expressions and tone to the sound you're modeling  • Let the child's interests guide which sounds you use  • Repeat sounds often without turning them into a drill or demand  • Focus on connection and shared enjoyment instead of performance Simple Ideas Mentioned in This Episode ●      The falling toy: "Oh no!" ●      Car ramps with "wheee!" and "vroooom!" ●      Surprise bags with animal sounds ●      Books with exaggerated reactions and exclamatory words ●      Peek-a-boo animal games ●      Sound books with one symbolic sound per page Related Resources & Links

Four years and 18 team members later, split between Colorado and Argentina, the results suggest he was onto something. He covers a lot of ground with Terrell Turner on Episode 267 of The Unique CPA: the weekly Friday training rhythm Roman runs entirely from team-submitted topics, why "build relationships and solve problems" is a more honest job description than any service-line acronym, and how managing across cultures has forced a more intentional approach to feedback than most firm owners ever develop. They also get into the genuine complexity of AI adoption right now: Roman is candid that even firms on the forefront are still figuring out how all the moving pieces fit together. (And then there are the 34 miles and 8,000 feet of vertical he's about to run!) Get the full show notes and more resources at TheUniqueCPA.com

What if the exhaustion, tension, overthinking, digestive symptoms, inflammation, sleep disruption, and constant feeling of being "on" are not personality flaws… …but nervous system adaptations?   In this episode of the EASE OS™ Podcast, Dr. Connie Cheung explores the physiology of chronic sympathetic dominance — the state many people unknowingly live in when the body remains organized around protection long after stress has become normalized.   This episode unpacks how chronic stress physiology affects: ➣ nervous system regulation ➣ gut health and digestion ➣ sleep quality ➣ inflammation ➣ hormonal balance ➣ muscle tension and postural patterns ➣ emotional resilience ➣ breathing mechanics ➣ behavior and identity patterns   Through real clinical stories, Dr. Connie explains why many people are "doing everything right" — yoga, healthy eating, supplements, hormone therapy, exercise — yet still feel exhausted, inflamed, disconnected from their body, or unable to fully recover.   You'll hear: ➣ Why the nervous system adapts to repeated stress conditions ➣ How chronic sympathetic activation becomes normalized ➣ Why hypervigilance and overthinking can feel like personality ➣ The connection between stress physiology and digestive dysfunction ➣ Why many symptoms make more sense when viewed through an integrated systems lens ➣ How chronic bracing patterns affect posture, movement, breathing, and pain ➣ Why healing often feels fragmented in modern healthcare ➣ The relationship between the autonomic nervous system regulation and long-term healing ➣ How yoga can become either regulation… or another expression of sympathetic dominance ➣ Why awareness changes the relationship we have with symptoms   Dr. Connie also shares: ➣ a clinical case involving chronic low back pain during yoga and hidden nervous system overload ➣ a patient with plantar fasciitis whose symptoms reflected broader stress physiology and chronic tension patterns ➣ How the body organizes around protection when stress becomes a baseline state   This episode is part of the EASE OS™ framework: Enteric · Autonomic · Somatic · Empowered Psychology   The Autonomic pillar focuses on nervous system regulation, sympathetic dominance, stress adaptation, and restoring physiological safety so the body can begin moving from survival physiology into recovery physiology.   In This Episode: ➣ Chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation ➣ Sympathetic vs parasympathetic nervous system ➣ Fight-or-flight physiology ➣ Stress hormones and cortisol ➣ Functional medicine perspective on chronic stress ➣ Somatic holding patterns and muscle guarding ➣ Mind-body connection and chronic tension ➣ Gut-brain axis and autonomic regulation ➣ Breathwork for nervous system regulation ➣ Yoga and nervous system awareness ➣ Hypervigilance and chronic anticipation ➣ Fatigue, inflammation, digestion, and stress physiology ➣ Integrated systems interpretation in healing   Practical Exercise From This Episode 5-5-5-5 Box Breathing Use before meals, stressful conversations, or sleep. ➣ Inhale through the nose for 5 counts ➣ Hold for 5 counts ➣ Exhale slowly for 5 counts ➣ Hold empty for 5 counts ➣ Repeat 3 rounds   This breathing practice helps stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and supports vagal regulation.   Key Takeaways ➣ The body adapts to repeated conditions ➣ Chronic stress physiology often becomes normalized ➣ Repeated states can eventually become traits ➣ Symptoms are often adaptive information, not personal failure ➣ The nervous system influences digestion, hormones, inflammation, sleep, movement, and emotional regulation ➣ Healing requires more than isolated protocols — the organism must be understood as an integrated system   Resources & Links

Broke her own American record and missed Tobi Amusan's world record of 12.12 by two hundredths; Collen Kebinatshipi running 43.92 for a world lead, now reportedly holding world leads in both the 100m and 400m simultaneously; Alison dos Santos is in arguably the best early-season form of his career; Abby Caldwell wins the women's 1500 again in 3:57, making Australian Commonwealth Games selection very complicated; Yan Ziyi throws 71.74 in the javelin on her 18th birthday.– LA Track Fest: Parker Valby returns with her first race on the outdoor track in 19 months, winning the 5K in a 14:49 personal best; Brandon Miller wins the 800m over a stacked field, but Josh Kerr gave us data on where he's at eight weeks out from his London mile world record attempt; Cooper Lutkenhaus runs his first 1500m at 17 years old and goes 3:45 + more results from LA.– This weekend: Bislett Games (Continental Tour), Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, and the Bandit Grand Prix at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City on Saturday.____________Hosts: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez + Kyle Merber | @kylemerberProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSXENDURANCE: Xendurance Protein is designed specifically to help your body recover, rebuild, and get stronger after training. At least, that's what I tend to do.My cup-half-empty nature has been a source of sorrow to the people around me, and it is simply sinful because the Bible commands us not to grumble and complain. What's more, God's Word also tells us not to provoke one another - which means to irritate one another - and also not to be envious of one another... The question simply then is - how? God's Word tells us simply, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit" (Galatians 5:25).Tune in today as I share several examples from my own life about so many things NOT to do to one another, as we continue our One Another series, here on Rinse and Repeat.(RAR2026EP22)

When asked how you're doing, do you thoughtlessly respond, “I'm good!”? Are you being truthful? Are you really okay? Sometimes we fail to see the ways that we're struggling, even though the body is constantly communicating with us. Feelings of anxiety, depression, fear, and anger manifest in all sorts of creative ways through our physical selves. If we really want to live healthy and abundant lives, we must heed the body's signals. Why is it so hard to stop eating ultra-processed foods — even when you know they're hurting you? In Episode 13 of this 16-part series, Dr. Brendan McCarthy explains why the real problem is not just the food itself. The real problem is the loop: Cue or emotional state → Wanting → Bargaining → Consumption → Temporary relief → Crash/regret → Repeat. This episode explores how ultra-processed and hyper-palatable foods become attached to stress, boredom, loneliness, exhaustion, anxiety, and emotional discomfort — training the brain to seek relief through food. Key ideas from this episode: • Hunger is the body asking for nourishment • Wanting is the conditioned brain asking for the expected hit • The food is the bait. The loop is the trap. • The food breaks the feeling. It does not heal the source. • You cannot remove a counterfeit regulator without restoring real regulation. Dr. McCarthy breaks down why willpower alone often fails and why lasting change requires a physiologic off-ramp: stable meals, protein, fiber, hydration, sleep, movement, emotional regulation, cue reduction, social planning, and relapse repair. This is not about “perfect eating.” It is about building a life where food is no longer your primary regulator of stress, comfort, or identity. If you've ever felt trapped in cravings, emotional eating, binge-restrict cycles, or constant food noise, this episode is designed to help you understand the mechanism behind the loop — and how to begin leaving it.

254: Incentives That Drive Service Behaviors

Are Your Incentives Creating the Customer Experience You Actually Want? Summary: John DiJulius explains how the behaviors your company rewards, measures, and recognizes become the customer experience your customers actually receive. Every company has incentives. Some are obvious: bonuses, commissions, contests, scorecards, performance reviews, and promotions. Others are quieter: praise, attention, flexibility, and who gets celebrated in meetings. But here is the real question: are your incentives creating the customer experience you actually want? In this episode, Denise Thompson and John DiJulius unpack how incentives drive service behaviors, why companies often reward the wrong things, and how customers ultimately feel whatever the organization values internally. John shares examples from Starbucks, Spirit Airlines, Blockbuster, Charles Schwab, Amazon, John Roberts Spa, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, and The DiJulius Group's own methodology. You will learn why speed, efficiency, sales, and profit are not bad metrics, but they become dangerous when they are the only metrics that matter. John also explains how leaders can recognize and reward the right behaviors, including ownership, personalization, follow-through, referrals, retention, service recovery, and Above and Beyond moments. Key Takeaways Your incentives reveal what your company truly values. Leaders may say customer experience is a priority, but employees follow what gets measured, rewarded, promoted, and recognized. Customers feel your internal reward system. They may never see your incentive plan, but they feel it when employees rush, enforce policy over empathy, or focus on transactions over relationships. Efficiency metrics can create unintended consequences. Metrics like average call time, speed, and volume are not bad, but they become dangerous when they are the only things that matter. Not all profits are good profits. Hidden fees, late fees, rigid policies, and short-term revenue plays can damage trust and exhaust frontline employees. Recognition is a powerful teaching tool. Culture is shaped by what leaders notice, celebrate, repeat, and turn into stories. Great service must be behaviorally defined. "Deliver great service" is too vague. Leaders need to define and reward specific behaviors such as ownership, empathy, personalization, follow-through, teamwork, problem prevention, and service recovery. The best service incentives align with retention and referrals. Repeat business, referrals, renewals, and earned sales growth are strong indicators that the experience is working. Stories make culture scalable. Recognition systems like the Milkshake Award and Bear Claw Award help employees understand what Above and Beyond service looks like in real life. Quotes "Customers do not experience your mission statement. They experience what your company rewards." "What gets recognized gets repeated." "If you reward speed, you get speed. If you reward shortcuts, you get shortcuts." "Not all profits are good profits." "Recognition does not always have to be financial. Sometimes culture is built by what gets noticed." "Great service is too vague unless leaders define the behaviors behind it." "The customer is the benefactor of what the company rewards internally." Why UX Should Own Retention

    Digital Insights

Most of the organizations I work with are obsessed with the top of the funnel. Ads, SEO, social media, the next campaign, the next traffic spike. The marketing team has dashboards full of acquisition metrics, and the design team usually gets drafted in to support that effort. New landing pages, better hero sections, smoother sign-up flows. That's all fine as far as it goes. I've written an entire email course on campaign landing pages because I genuinely believe most of them are leaking conversions like a colander. But it does mean something important keeps getting ignored. Most organizations have no cohesive strategy at all for retention and upselling. They pour effort into getting the customer through the door, then more or less forget about them once they're inside. The numbers nobody is acting on This is strange when you stop and think about it. The economics of retention have been well known for years. Acquiring a new customer typically costs around five times more than keeping an existing one. Cross-selling or upselling to an existing customer costs roughly 24% of what it takes to win the same revenue from a new one. You don't need to convince someone who's already bought from you. You just have to not screw it up. Retention falls between the cracks So why does retention keep slipping through? In my experience, it's because nobody really owns it. Every other part of the customer journey has a clear home. Acquisition belongs to marketing. Onboarding sometimes sits with product. Support lives in customer success. Renewals end up with sales. Retention falls into the gaps between all of them, which is a polite way of saying it falls on the floor. A real opportunity for UX This is where I think UX has a genuine opportunity. Not just to help with retention, but to own it. To plant our flag and say this is our patch. I know that sounds like more work for a profession that's already stretched thin. But hear me out. UX has a chronic problem with how it's perceived inside organizations. We're seen as the people who make screens look nice. Helpful, but not strategic. The reason for that perception is partly our own fault. We've spent years talking about users when senior leaders are thinking about revenue. We've reported back on usability scores when the board is looking at MRR and churn. Nobody at the top of an organization wakes up worrying about whether the user's mental model matches the interface. They worry about lifetime customer value. They worry about monthly recurring revenue. They worry, sometimes very loudly, about churn going in the wrong direction. And yet plenty of businesses worry about those numbers without ever actively tracking them. Nobody is responsible for measuring them, so they sit in the background as a vague anxiety rather than a managed metric. If the UX team picked up that responsibility, and started tying our work to those numbers, our standing inside the business would change dramatically. We'd stop being the screen-prettifying team and start being the team that protects revenue. That's a very different conversation to have with a CFO. Why retention is a UX problem in disguise The other reason retention is such a good fit for UX is that the levers are largely ours already. Customers usually leave because something in the experience disappointed them. They couldn't find what they needed. The product didn't deliver what they expected. Support was a maze. The onboarding fizzled out before the value clicked. Every one of those is a UX problem dressed up as a business problem. The same goes for upselling. Customers buy more from companies that have nurtured them properly, where the experience has built trust over time. You can't bolt that on with a clever email campaign three months in. It has to be designed.

She shares her journey with intermittent fasting, highlighting the challenges and triumphs she has experienced along the way. She discusses her lifelong struggle with weight and body image, which began in her teenage years. Despite maintaining a healthy weight, she often felt the pressure to stay thin, leading to cycles of bingeing and restricting. Her introduction to intermittent fasting came as a relief, offering a sustainable way to manage her weight without the constant stress of dieting. Christina emphasizes the importance of finding a balance that works for her lifestyle, incorporating activities she loves, like golf and tennis, into her routine. As the conversation wraps up, Christina offers valuable advice to those new to intermittent fasting. She stresses the importance of starting slow and gradually reducing the eating window, rather than diving in too quickly, as she initially did. Christina also highlights the significance of community support, encouraging new intermittent fasters to engage with supportive groups that promote clean fasting practices. Her final piece of advice is to embrace the journey, acknowledging that while some days may be challenging, the benefits of intermittent fasting far outweigh the difficulties. Christina's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and finding joy in the process of self-improvement.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources.
