At 16, he and his brother founded a tree planting company that sold carbon credits to businesses, a venture that saw over $1 million dollars in contracts, and planted 150,000 trees. This venture helped pave the way to the founding of tentree in 2012, where Derrick operates as the CEO, guiding the Company's vision and strategy. tentree is a lifestyle brand that plants ten trees for every product sold.In just under a decade, tentree has set new standards in the sustainable apparel world while also leading to the planting of almost 100 million trees. In 2021, after identifying a need for more transparency in the global reforestation space, with his team, Derrick launched a technology company - veritree - focused on building and providing the tools to monitor, verify, and audit global reforestation work.Named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 and Canada's Top 40 Under 40, Derrick's efforts continue to focus around accelerating the adoption of nature-based solutions globally.About tentreetentree believes it can inspire a new group of consumers to tackle the environmental issues we are now faced with. By planting ten trees and ensuring that all tentree clothing is produced responsibly they allow each and every customer to make a difference.Their commitment to the environment isn't just a catchy hook to drive sales. It is something they fundamentally believe in, that will have an enormous impact on our environment going forward. It's your world, your life, your playground. Let's protect it – together, we can build forests.Tree planting is a way of restoring the environment, maintaining ecosystems, and making our world a healthier place to live. This isn't new; but what is new, is how they have used the concept of planting trees to inspire entrepreneurship, build sustainable communities, provide shelter and generally increase quality of life. The founders of tentree have years of experience in the tree planting industry and have used this to create a business model that ensures trees are planted sustainably and in a way that will have the greatest impact. Some of the many benefits of planting trees include:- Creating and restoring bio-diversity- Removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere- Creating bio-precipitation- Building sustainable and resilient natural ecosystemsAbout veritreeVeritree is on a mission to accelerate the adoption of nature-based climate solutions through innovative technology.Veritree is the only system built specifically to solve the problems of large-scale global restorations groups. Through a comprehensive suite of tools, Veritree utilizes blockchain technology to provide restoration organizations with an integrated platform to support field-level data collection, site planning, inventory (tree) management, and impact monitoring, all while delivering sponsors with a world-class experience.Restoration projects have historically been very difficult to monitor, measure, and audit. At the same time, the need has never been greater for large-scale restoration projects. Veritree provides the systems to empower the world's best restoration projects to do what they do best - make an impact.Powered by: ReFi Jobs - ReFi jobs curates the best new regenerative finance jobs at leading companies and startups - Learn more---> Check out the Causeartist Partners here.---> Subscribe to the Causeartist Newsletter here.Listen to more Causeartist podcast shows hereFollow Grant on Twitter and LinkedInFollow Causeartist on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
From a young age, Saskatchewan born Derrick Emsley has been actively connecting people with environmental stewardship. At 16, he and his brother Kalen founded a tree planting company that sold carbon offsets to businesses, a venture that saw over $1 million dollars in contracts and 150,000 trees planted. Derrick founded tentree, the apparel company that plants trees for purchases, soon after graduating from Richard Ivey School of Business in 2012. In just under a decade, tentree has set new standards for apparel brands with environmentally progressive values. Based on its success creating a model for engagement between the brand and its consumers, Derrick co-founded veritree last year, as a platform for regeneration that other brands can use to create similar impact. Named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for 2020, Derrick has become a voice for a modern generation—one who recognizes the necessity of a brand that's earth-first, transparent, and community-focused."I think what's powerful about a tree is it's tangible and it's symbolic in a lot of ways. We as humans naturally have this emotional connection, I think, to trees, and so particularly when you think of our ability to take action within the climate crisis conversation, a tree is this really powerful symbol and vehicle because it's a lot easier to understand a tree than it is to understand a pound or two of CO2 that's floating in the air.So for us, tree planting is just the start of the communication, just the start of the impact. Really if all it was was to get a stick in the ground that wouldn't have the long-term impact, whether that be carbon, whether that be socioeconomic impact, and things like that. So really for us, veritree helps us collect all that data and create the operating system to pull in the data on everything from planting forms and field updates that are coming in, survivability analysis, and different updates on things like biodiversity. We're partnering with some groups to test underwater sensors in some of these planting sites. We're collecting socioeconomic surveys and things like that to try to attach the impact to the community and back to the planting that's happening."· www.veritree.com· veritree Launches Community of 30 Brand Partners to Plant 10 Million Verified Treesveritree Partners with Samsung to Plant Millions of Trees in 2022Mogo announces its partnership with veritreeveritree and Cardano Foundation Complete Global Impact Challenge as "Cardano Forest" Reaches Funding Target for Planting 1M Treeswww.oneplanetpodcast.org· www.creativeprocess.info

Between wildfires, floods and other severe weather discrepancies taking place each year, thinking about the solutions to the issue of climate change is overwhelming. And even when people do their best to do their individual part, it can feel like a drop in the bucket, or like it's simply not enough. But what action, of any size, has the potential to drive real, global change – influencing leaders and driving focus of the largest climate issue at hand? If we join our voices together, do we have the ability to make change across education, nonprofit, public and private sectors? In this episode, we hear from Amanda McKenzie, CEO of Australia's leading climate change communications organization Climate Council, and Derrick Emsley, Co-Founder and CEO of the sustainable clothing brand Tentree -- two individuals who have found their communities and stakeholders to be at the core of their success. Although they sit on different degrees of the climate conversation spectrum, both Amanda and Derrick believe that a combination of technology and effective communication has the potential of giving people privilege to use their voices – creating a ripple effect of positive changes on the planet. Between wildfires, floods and other severe weather discrepancies taking place each year, thinking about the solutions to the issue of climate change is overwhelming. And even when people do their best to do their individual part, it can feel like a drop in the bucket, or like it's simply not enough. Trees are important not only for oxygen and the environment, but also for society and the economy. When today's guest was only 16, he and his brother had the idea of planting trees while selling carbon offsets back, and that paved the way to the beginning of tentree. Continuing our revisitation of some excellent climate crusading episodes from our archives in celebration of Earth Month, today we bring you Derrick Emsley of tentree from February, 2021. Derrick is the CEO and Co-Founder of tentree, a tree planting company that sells sustainable apparel. Tentree has an “Earth-First” commitment, a mission of creating a sustainable future through planting 1 billion trees by 2030, and a goal of empowering people by providing local jobs, food security, and environmental benefits. In this episode, Cory and Derrick talk about the impact, significance, and importance of planting trees across the globe. Tentree started in 2012 and as of this re-publication, they've planted over 73 million trees! Derrick shares their innovations and transparency in their reforestation projects and their partnership with different organizations to empower people. -- --
In this week's episode, Jonathan is joined by Derrick Emsley, Founder/CEO of the Earth-First apparel brand Tentree. Emsley describes Tentree as a tree planting company that sells apparel. They create products to represent that vision for the outdoor and active lifestyle consumer. Tentree plants roughly 10 trees per item sold which goes back to the high-school tree-planting program that connected them with a variety of global tree planting projects. The business was designed to build on those relationships with 30+ planting partners and grow their efforts regionally across the world. They've created a business that can see continued growth with estimated 25M trees for 2022.

The idea that everything comes back around can be a comforting thought - especially as Anna Brones shares it:“I think that that's what we've really been doing in a larger way in the last two years. We've had to reckon with some of these larger questions about what it means to be human, what it means to exist, who we are when we don't have all of the external distractions. And so I think that that's what we are continuing to sit with. And I think your creative process is a way to sit with those things. And I think that's why investing in creative process is so important because at the end of the day, being creative is being human.”Anna was on She Explores back in April of 2020 for a conversation called ‘Creativity to Guide Us Through.' It was around the start of lockdown and life as we knew it was changing. To kick off 2022, we're revisiting portions of this conversation on creativity and nature that feel just as relevant today and we also catch up with Anna as she shares some valuable advice on approaching January in a gentle way. After making two rare appearances on our Podcast this year (when is the last time you saw the Countess on a Pod), we had to pay it forward and would not have missed the return of the legend, Countess Lu, to her home at 54 Below in her brand new “A Very Countess Christmas” Cabaret. “Viva La Diva”, the Countess is back! We break down the entire show - the songs, the crowd, the celeb guest appearances, the attendance of Miss Ramona Singer & Miss Leah McSweeney, backstage in the “green room” with Leah and Lu, & the sequins. Lu was definitely “Feelin' Jovani”, as she did what only the Countess can do. “Money Can't Buy You Class”, but it can buy you a ticket to this show. If you did not get a chance to attend this sold out residence at Lu's home away from home, 54 Below, “Chic C'est La Vie”, there is always next year! @talktometaylor @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by QUIP - https://www.getquip.com/velvet (First Refill Free & Up To 40% Off Bundles) Brought to you by SHIPSTATION - https://www.shipstation.com (60 Day Free Trial. The fashion industry is responsible for producing 10% of the world's carbon emissions and 20% of global wastewater, using more energy annually than the aviation and shipping industries combined. In addition to this, production of wood pulp-based fabrics, like rayon and viscose, result in approximately 70 million tons of trees being cut down each year. With figures like these and projections for them to double in the next 10 years, it's no surprise that sustainability and environmental impact is at the forefront of the minds of retailers, leaders, and consumers. Many retailers have started taking small steps to reduce their carbon footprint, such as improving their packaging, reducing overproduction, decarbonizing retail operations, and using materials that are recycled, sustainable, and organic. Then there's tentree, the tree planting company that just so happens to sell apparel. Founded in 2012, tentree is on an earth-first mission to create sustainable clothing and make choices that are focused on putting people and the planet first.Derrick Emsley, Co-Founder and CEO of tentree & veritree, joins us to talk about having a purpose beyond retail - creating community and connecting with impact.Discover more about tentree here.Follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.Discover more about veritree here.Follow them on Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.You can learn more about Neo Financial here.Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

90210's Gabrielle Carteris steps Behind The Rope. Yes, Andrea Zuckerman is here!!! Ok, ok, we DO know the difference between Gabrielle Carteris and Andrea Zuckerman. Gabrielle is here to chat about her full career and the role she is most iconically known for in 90210. Gabrielle talks about what the audition process was like, how she got the role and what it was like being on a hit Aaron Spelling teen nighttime soap. We talk what it was like to fake her age of 21 to get the job and to play a 15 year old teenager when she was 29 years old. We chat about her costars - no last names needed - Shannen, Tori, Jennie, Brian, Jason, Luke, and Ian and all those rumors from back in the day on set - the “red dress” catfight, the BTS hook ups, and, of course, Shannen Doherty and her “bad girl” reputation. We talk about Shannen's exit, her replacement Tiffani Thiessen, guests stars such as Oscar Winner Hillary Swank, her pregnancy being written into the show, and her exit at the end of Season Five. Flash forward, and Gabrielle talks about what being the President of SAG-AFTRA (and now first American President of FIA) was like, her many celebrity run-ins / colleagues, and backstage shenanigans from the esteemed SAG Awards. As busy a job as that is, Gabrielle found herself moonlighting in 2019 when Tori and Jennie came a callin' for the reboot, BH90210, when the entire original cast signed on to play heightened versions of themselves. Gabrielle opens up about that bittersweet reunion due to Luke Perry's passing as well as how hard it is to watch friends go through tough times - “True Tori”, Shannen's current health, and so on. Finally, we reflect back on 90210 and its blockbuster cultural effect that we are still, and will forever be talking about, all these years later. @gabriellecarteris @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by QUIP - https://www.getquip.com/velvet (First Refill Free & Up To 40% Off Bundles) Brought to you by SHIPSTATION - https://www.shipstation.com (60 Day Free Trial. Charli Burnett steps Behind The Rope. Vanderpump Rules, Season Nine. Charli chats all about the new season of Pump Rules - how it was different for her, filming without OG's Stassi, Jax and Kristen, being the only one in the group whose significant other isn't a regular part of the show, and her ever changing relationships with cast mates. She weighs in on some of life's most pressing questions - the validity of “share plate” charges, Schwartz & Sandy's, Raquel Leviss' statement that Katie Maloney is bored in life, the necessity of an engagement ring from Tiffany's, the fact that Summer Moon has more IG followers than all of us, working at SUR for Lisa Vanderpump and much more. Charli shares an update on Lala Kent and Randall Emmett's relationship that has been the subject of much tabloid fodder over the past few weeks. Charli opens up about her food issues, as seen this season on VPR, her decision to show her vulnerable side on Bravo and how the public and her cast mates have reacted. Of course, last but certainly not least, we had to ask if she has, in fact, now still never eaten pasta. @charliburnett @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by QUIP - https://www.getquip.com/velvet (First Refill Free & Up To 40% Off Bundles) Brought to you by SHIPSTATION - https://www.shipstation.com (60 Day Free Trial. Join environmental artist Claire Giordano in the field as she teaches plein air painting in stunning landscapes like alpine lakes, old growth forests, beneath sandstone cliffs, oceanside, and glaciers. While Claire loves sharing the fun and beauty of experiencing these places through her virtual course, The Adventure Art Academy, there's an intention behind the class that is more than meets the eye. As an artist, writer, and educator, Claire strives to creatively explore the interwoven patterns of people, place, and climate change. She sees creating art as a gateway to truly seeing and experiencing landscape - in particular, identifying the effects of climate change. Claire also sees it as a way to let go and experiment, which we don't often get to experience in our daily lives. In this episode, Claire shares the motivations behind starting this class, her philosophy of infusing adventure into the day-to-day, and takes us with her into the backcountry.Enjoy listening? In a rare Podcast appearance, Carole Radziwill steps BACK Behind The Rope. After a brief chat with Carole about her career as a journalist, producer (3 Emmy wins) & NYT Best Selling author (shout out to "What Remains: A memoir of Fate, Friendship and Love”), we get into what y'all wanna chat about, The Real Housewives of New York City. Carole chats about her six year run on RHONY - the highs / lows, cast mates who have come and gone (Lu, Ramona, Dorinda, the Tins, Aviva & Much More), Adam!, and, if you have't heard, the fact that she has never used, is not currently using and will never use a ghostwriter (shout out to "The Widow's Guide to Sex & Dating”). Carole talks about one of the most shocking reunion moments ever - telling Andy Cohen he is full of sh*t and clarifies the truth behind her RHONY exit putting to bed once and for all whether it had anything to do with that reunion moment, her much publicized fall out and demise of her friendship with Bethenny Frankel or plethora of receipts of who said what, when and to whom she sent to production on the reg. We chat about whether Bethenny really is Andy's “favorite”, what she got special treatment during her RHONY career and whether she should return to RHONY as cast or producer to fix the ratings slump. Carole chats about changes she would make to RHONY to increase ratings, who she would let go, bring back from the past, and whether serious topics like race and politics belong on TV. After all, she was ahead of her time with her very own political story line. Of course, we can't help but ask if those suggested changes would involve her ever coming back. Listen to find out this plus a whole lot more rumors and myths clarified and set straight by the one and only Carole Radziwill, a guest that we have been chasing, stalking, and charming for quite a while to make an appearance here Behind The Rope! As they say, all good things come to those who wait. In honor of the return of The Real Housewives of Orange County this coming Wednesday, we wanted to highlight this past chat with Bravo's 100th Housewife, Peggy Sulahian. With the launch of RHUGT a huge success, what do y'all think of a “One Season Wonder” Housewives show? We chat about what would you do and just how different would it be if you were given a second chance? Something interesting to ponder as you listen in…. A few months after The Real Housewives of Orange County finale, with production on the new season halted until further notice (thank you Corona), David checks in with the 100th Housewife, RHOC's Peggy Sulahian. From her early days in the OC, to her car loving husband Diko (Peggy is a Ferrari girl), to her double mastectomy, learn more about the real woman behind the facade of what the audience saw on Bravo. Of course, the conversation quickly turns to all things RHOC. Casting, production, filming, the epic Iceland vacation, nothing is off limits in this sit down with Peggy (she really is good at speaking her mind, people). As far as fellow cast mates go, there is the good (Vicki, Lydia), the not so good (everyone else?) and then there is that time Peggy physically closed Meghan King Edmonds' mouth because, well, she was talking too much. Grab your oranges and listen in!! @peggysulahian @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus & Ad Free Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by SKYLIGHT FRAME - http://www.skylightframe.com ($10 Off Your First Purchase - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by SIMPLISAFE - https://www.simplisafe.com/velvetrope (20% Off Entire New System & First Month Free) Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Brought to you by WONDERY's OPERATOR. Countess Luann de Lesseps steps back Behind The Rope. The Countess has returned and, once again, in true Countess fashion, does not disappoint. The Real Housewives Ultimate Girl's Trip. RHUGT! We have waited patiently and now it has finally arrived. Luann chats RHUGT cast mates, drama, who surprised her the most, being on vacation with Ramona Singer, and last, but certainly not least, the shocking revelation that Bethenny Frankel allegedly set up the picture of Tom at The Regency (as discussed on RHUGT). In other words, we needed the tea. Of course, Luann opens up about last season of The Real Housewives of New York City and chats about the future of the show - the highs and lows of season thirteen, how the season ended, current casting rumors, the future of RHONY and when we, the public, might finally hear something solid, real, and official regarding Season 14. Of course we also discuss Luann's current show, “A Very Countess Christmas”, which kicks off where it all began, at 54 Below on November 30th for eight dates and continues throughout the end of the year. Luann teases what we can expect in her new cabaret and what RHONY and other Housewives we can expect to pop up as she hits the road. The Countess is back doing what she does best because life is, always has been, and always will be a cabaret. @countessluann @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef For tickets to “A Very Countess Christmas” visit https://www.countessluann.com BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by SKYLIGHT FRAME - http://www.skylightframe.com ($10 Off Your First Purchase - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by SIMPLISAFE - https://www.simplisafe.com/velvetrope (20% Off Entire New System & First Month Free) Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Brought to you by WONDERY's OPERATOR - Listen Now at http://wondery.fm/OP_Behind_The_Velvet MERCH Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Arden Myrin steps Behind The Rope. Arden is back to help us make sense of everything Real Housewives. Of course, this past season of RHOBH and Erika Jayne is a great place to start - what she knew, her reunion “performance”, social media, Bethenny Frankel and Camille Grammer's claims they knew of Tom Giardi's financial woes, Sutton being the only one with a voice this past season and much more. The convo quickly turns to other legal matters, namely one Jen Shah and this season of RHOSLC. We break down Jen's case, how it compares to Erika's in terms of seriousness and viewer interest plus other pressing matters from our fav snow birds - the obsession with Brooks' sexuality, Lisa Barlow's friendship loyalties, Mary's beloved Church and much more. We also discuss the shocking decision by Bravo to cancel the RHONY reunion, the future of RHONY and whether other last season “off” franchises such as RHOC and RHOA can come back with a bang. Speaking of shows that need an infusion of a bang we discuss the current season of Vanderpump Rules plus one of Arden's favs, Below Deck. Finally, we pay homage to all things Arden - her starring role on Netflix' Insatiable with Queen Alyssa Milano and Debbie Ryan, her hilarious book “Little Miss Little Compton”, her epic Bachelor Nation Podcast “Will You Accept This Rose”, her new movie with Kevin Bacon and, last but certainly not least, an update on her road to The Amazing Race as team “Razzle Dazzle” with BFF new Dad, Lance Bass. @ardenmyrin @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus & Ad Free Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by TENTREE - https://www.tentree.com (15% Off First Order - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by THIRDLOVE - http://www.thirdlove.com/velvet (20% Off First Purchase) Brought to you by QUIP - https://www.getquip.com/velvet (First Refill Free) Brought to you by CALIBRATE - https://www.joincalibrate.com ($50 off First Year - Use Code “Velvet”) Brought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Nicole Antoinette recently released a trail journal of her 2017 thru-hike of the Arizona Trail called “How to Be Alone.” And that's what we met up to talk about on a trail near Boston: how her first thru hike came to be, how she persevered, and why she decided to add to the trail journal canon. While quitting can indeed be a kindness, Nicole solo hiked all 800 rugged miles of the Arizona Trail. And it all started when she was over 30,000 feet up in the air, reading a book on a plane. While Nicole says she's a “recovering advice giver,” we know there's lots of wisdom to be found in this episode: about knowing when it's time to take a leap, how to get to know yourself better, giving back through your creative work, and more. On the heels of lasts night's explosive Jen Shah RHOSLC showdown that we have waited all season to see, Meredith Marks steps Behind The Rope. She is back. RHOSLC, Season Two. How did we get here? We waste no time in chatting with Meredith about all this season's dramas both on and of screen - “Catergate”, newest RHOSLC wife Jennie Nguyen and her potential Sister Wife, Whitney Rose / Lisa Barlow - friends or frenemies?, Heather's Gay's empty nest, accusations that Mary M. Cosby is in a cult, Mary M. Cosby's declaration that she would like to change Robert Sr. to “fit her needs” and oh, so much more. Of course, Meredith also discusses one of her central storylines, Jen Shah's social media behavior toward Brooks and the status of all parties' relationships today. Of course, speaking of Jen Shah, we break down the epic van scene, Meredith's WWHL statements implying she may have called the Feds on Jen, what it was like to film with Jen in real time as her legal drama was unfolding, and what we can expect to see the rest of this season. Finally, we discuss why, as an audience, we captivated with watching both RHOBH's Erika Jayne and Jen Shah's legal woes play out on Housewives and find both stories to be so fascinating we just cannot seem to get enough. Meredith discusses whether she would film under these circumstances, the casts' reaction to the epic van raid and what we can expect as the season rolls on and we head into the reunion. With all this talk about an “off season” of RHONY and all the cries to bring back the good ‘ole days, we figured it was the perfect Flashback Friday to share another one of our favs, this chat with Kristen Taekman about the good ole days of RHONY! Everyone loved our chat with Carole Radziwill earlier this week, so we figured it was time to re-share this one. The Real Housewives of New York City's Kristen Taekman steps Behind The Rope. Checking in from beautiful Connecticut, Kristen is here to tell it all. First we catch up with Kirsten on the current status of her Fashion Blogging and fashion trends we can all expect in the world as it exists today. Ok, now onto what everyone wants to talk about, RHONY. We discuss Kristen's thoughts on RHONY before being cast, what her casting process was like and how she feels she was edited for the two seasons she was on the hit Bravo show. Kristen discusses Bethenny and what watching the show without her is like. Speaking of Bethenny, Kristen's children go to the same school as Bryn and she tells us about several Bethenny, and Jason Hoppy (whaaaat?), sightings during school events. We also discuss her friendship with RHONY Housewives past such as Jill Zarin and Heather Thomson. Kristen also shares her thoughts on current RHONY cast members, her being a huge Leah McSweeney fan, and, having both seen her cabaret, Kristen and David discuss the joy that is Countess and Friends. Also, let us not forget that both Kristen and David were at the Hamptons party last summer that Ramona pushed Gizelle out of the picture at so they recount that fateful day, the before, during and shocking after. Speaking of Ramona. Kristen responds to Ramona's statements several weeks back about her and former RHONY Cindy Barshop being “nobodies”. Do tell!!! Emily D. Baker steps Behind The Rope. Our fav legal commentator, and former LA Deputy District Attorney, is here to break down the legal woes of one Mr. and Mrs, soon to be exes, Erika and Tom Girardi. So much has happened in the Erika & Tom case since Emily was last here, we don't even know where to begin. Emily helps us make sense of all the legal aspects of this case - the divorce, the bankruptcy, the $25M, Erika's potential liability if she knew, Ronald Richard's recent offer to match 10% of whatever Erika voluntarily returned, the likelihood the victims will ever be paid, the likelihood Erika will face jail time if she is found guilty of any crimes, the likelihood Erika will have a similar lifestyle when all is said and done, the projected timeline of how much longer this case will continue to dominate our lives and so on. We have talked so much about the reunion that we needed to break down the legal facts of this case. Of course, we do chat this past season of RHOBH & The Reunion - Erika's demand for undying loyalty, Rinna's double standard, Sutton's newfound voice, Sutton's bodyguard, whether Erika is “using” the show to rewrite history with a different narrative and her potential weekly admissions of potential guilt, should she be found guilty, by staying a member of the cast. Of course, we discuss the recent claims that Camille Grammer was told of the Girardi's financial troubles at Andy's baby Shower by one of her closest friends on the show rumored to be Kyle and Bethenny Frankel's claims that she knew - after all doesn't the B “Know It All”. Finally, Emily looks ahead to next season of RHOBH what Erika's future looks like with Bravo under scenarios of potential guilt and innocence. The episode you have been waiting for all season!. Time to legally make sense of it all! From one lawyer to another, thank you Emily. In a rare Podcast appearance, Carole Radziwill steps Behind The Rope. In retail, you can go one of two ways: you can open your own stores or you can place your products in other brands' stores. There are obviously pro's and con's to both but David talks about Tentree's intentionality in picking to distribute through established brands so they could focus on their mission: making saving the world the easy decision. He also shares more about the impact to this tree planting is having on these communities they're in- giving people jobs, helping them to find financial stability and purpose. It's clear to see that the team's mission goes well beyond purpose-driven apparel and it was so exciting to hear David give us a peek behind the curtain.
Tentree is a tree planting company first, apparel company second. David tells us about their journey trying to learn the apparel industry on the fly as three friends that happened upon this idea to save the world through trees. He admits that they had to learn a lot of things the hard way but their success since then makes every single hurdle worth it. Press play if you're interested in hearing their original plans for the business and how they've shifted throughout the past 10 years. Press play if you want to talk through arguably the most genius social media post of all time on Instagram. Press play to hear how David thinks about the future of Tentree and their potential for impact well beyond apparel.

If you are someone who cares about climate change but you're tired of hearing about how the world is going to explode in a few short years if we don't do something soon (What does that even mean?), then this podcast is for you. We stay away from divisive politics and meaningless numbers with no context, and instead I interview climate action leaders implementing revolutionary ideas that are helping to reduce our impact on the world around us. I've noticed through my own experience that the number of people concerned about climate change is growing quickly. At the same time, the information being presented to the public is, in most cases, a sad sigh of defeat, irrational denialism, or frantic screaming that does no one any good. The fact is that climate change is happening, but it is not hopeless, and you are not powerless. TED speaker and climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe said that “The most important thing you can for climate change is talk about it.” so let's talk about it. Let's learn about solar energy and battery storage, let's dig into green hydrogen, and wind, and the power of water, and the importance of sustainable energy. Let's learn and let's discuss. We aren't doomed, but we have to work hard in order to keep climate change from wreaking real havoc on our world. Earth911 talks with Derrick Emsley, CEO of tentree, a a clothing company making a difference. The company plants ten trees for every article of clothing they sell. Tentree has already planted 56.3 million trees and is working to reduce the environmental impact of its clothing production processes by using wood-based TENCEL fiber, hemp, organic cotton and recycled polyester in its clothing. They have audited their supply chain to offset CO2 emissions and reduce water usage compared to traditional clothing makers by as much as 75%; by 2023, tentree plans to eliminate all single-use plastic from packaging.Emsley explains that tentree is really a tree-planting company that makes clothing, and suggests that the company could expand into other product categories to support its goal of planing one billion trees by 2030. He says that at tentree's current growth rate, they will hit the billion-tree target on time. We also discuss customers' willingness to pay a premium for clothing that offers convenient carbon offsets. In addition to its solid environmental record, Emsley shares how tree-planting projects in the mangrove-lined coast of Madagascar has lifted entire communities out of poverty and helped to restore local fisheries. And we learn what new clothing Emsley particularly likes in the current summer line of clothing now out from tentree. Check out tentree.com, and be sure to see the line of clothes inspired by Dr. Seuss' The Lorax.

One of the greatest joys I get from hosting this podcast is meeting some incredibly inspiring people, with the goals and ambitions that can reshape our industry. Today's guest is one of those people. A North London native, his first break in fashion occurred in Australia where was an accessories designer for Crumpler. Upon graduating with a BA Honours in furniture and product design, he relocated to Vancouver, Canada where he spent eight years as a technical bag developer for Mountain Equipment Co-op, and most recently as the accessories lead for one of Canada's most accelerated start up fashion brands TenTree. During his time at TenTree, his role gave him the opportunity to visit factories overseas. On his travels to Vietnam and China, he had a meeting that would change the course of his career. And more importantly, change the way in which Chinese factories will operate in the future. What was supposed to be a routine factory audit, became an opportunity to take over a factory to implement a new manufacturing model that builds on sustainability, transparency, and raising consciousness. My guest today is Joey Pringle, the founder of Veshin Factory. He joined me all the way from the UK to talk about how he's transitioning with his new life changing decision, his plans to help rebuild a sustainable manufacturing culture, and uncovering the misconceptions of Chinese manufacturing. Sponsor Before I jump into this episode, I wanted to take a second to thank my sponsors at Bean Bundle, Canada's newest coffee subscription. In our exciting webinar on May 28th with tentree, a sustainably made clothing brand that gives back by planting trees with every purchase, we explored a new way of using influencer marketing for a mission. Lindsay Derer, Influencer Marketing Manager as well as Social Media Manager at tentree discussed how the successful brand has been able to not only drive sales with their ambassadors, but also drive awareness to their cause. Into our discussion we discovered tentree was able to create missions through their influencer campaigns and allow their brand to branch out across channels through their program. Lindsay chatted about the difficulties of being a one-woman department, managing both influencer marketing and social media for the company, and how it was nearly impossible on spreadsheets before she discovered GRIN. When you start a company for the sole purpose of funding tree planting, and it takes off as a fashion brand, you see how it would be hard to stay focused. But through rebrands, viral social media hits, and an evolving fashion landscape, tentree hasn’t strayed from their mission. In this episode of the podcast, I get the absolute pleasure of speaking with Arthur Kononuk, Creative Director and Co-founders of tentree. To give some context, tentree plants 10 trees for every item purchased, and we dive into their audacious goal of planting 1 billion trees by 2030. We talk about their experience of going viral on Instagram, why they did a rebrand, the state of the textiles industry and sustainable fashion, and why selling more clothing might not be the best way to reach their new goal.
Okay, fellow brand-owners, on today's episode, I sit down with Derrick Emsley, the CEO and one of the co-founders of tentree, a sustainable clothing brand and now technology company that is challenging the way brands can drive change by getting the consumers to get involved in new meaningful ways. tentree sells clothing, but their purpose isn't to sell products... their true purpose and mission are to make an impact by planting trees. For every 1 product that a customer buys, they plant 10 trees. They even created a hardware component and software that allows them to track exactly where all of their trees are planted, which they then allow online customers to see how they're making an impact just by purchasing tentree's products. They're currently at nearly 35 million trees planted all around the world, they've created jobs for people in other countries, and they aim to plant 1 BILLION trees by 2030 and you know what, I think they'll get their much sooner. Why? Because consumers are shifting away from companies that just sell products and they're focusing on experiences with new brands that empower them to a particular cause that benefits society and/or the environment. Customers want to belong and when they find brands like tentree - that are making an impact and are building a large community of people that care about the environment - they become brand ambassadors and advocates for that community, cause, and brand. tentree even has Instagram's 4TH MOST POPULAR POST OF ALL-TIME, which created an experience where 15,000,000+ Instagram community members engaged with the post that resulted in millions of trees being planted! There's something interesting about that... something that you should examine further because if you understand this, you can begin to build a strong foundation for a brand that will champion the impact you want to make and will have a stronger likelihood of succeeding in 2020 and beyond. In this episode Summer begins by finishing the story of the rumpl blanket and the homeless woman. Again, be sure to check out www.rumpl.com and support amazing companies that believe in doing good and spreading good in this world. She then talks a little more about optimism, the importance of gratitude, and shares a BEAUTIFUL story of an act of kindness (and being a FREAKING AWESOME HUMAN). Here are a couple other companies that help the world socially or environmentally that I love supporting: 1. Cotopaxi - Gear for Good. https://www.cotopaxi.com "We create innovative outdoor products and experiences that fund sustainable poverty alleviation, move people to do good, and inspire adventure. Cotopaxi funds solutions that address the most persistent needs of those living in extreme poverty" 2. United by Blue. https://unitedbyblue.com "For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from our world's oceans and waterways. And by that, we don’t mean writing checks or accepting donations. Our pledge to remove one pound of trash means rallying our team and like-minded volunteers to pick up plastic bottles, tires, appliances, and even abandoned trucks, from rivers, streams, creeks, and beaches." 3. Tentree. https://www.tentree.ca "Ten trees are planted for every item purchased. Our goal is to plant 1 billion trees by 2030." Link to photograph of guy giving free hugs blindfolded: https://www.instagram.com/p/4CartLq-tN/ Send me YOUR stories!! I want to hear and share your stories of times you've employed optimism to better difficult situations or beautiful moments in your everyday, things that made you smile or your journey to becoming more optimistic!! ESPECIALLY acts of kindness (not directly related to optimism BUT they are my favorite and part of my mission to spread more good). Email: ordinaryoptimist@gmail.com Instagram: @ordinaryoptimist Remember: A) CHOOSE happiness; you have the power to choose how you want to feel or react about anything. B) Be GRATEFUL. Always. For all things right now and all things yet to come. C) Get out and smile and make eye contact with someone. Trust me, it may be awkward, but it will definitely be beautiful and awesome.
