Description: Today's guest is someone whose work has touched millions of hearts around the world. You probably fell in love with her through her luminous debut memoir ‘From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home', which was later adapted into a limited series on Netflix and became a global success. Tembi Locke has held many roles: accomplished author, producer, screenwriter, actor, artist, caregiver, child of divorce, mother through adoption, and widow to cancer. It is through her experiences in all of these spaces that Tembi has honed her ability to write, speak, and live from that rare place where grief and grace meet—where we can hold loss and love in the same breath. Her newest work, Someday, Now, is an immersive, breathtaking, and deeply personal audio experience that takes us on a journey back to Sicily, a place layered with memory, love, and loss for Tembi, as she prepares to send her daughter off to college. Through reflection, family, and the beauty of place, Tembi invites us to consider what it means to re-nest—to reclaim identity, purpose, and joy in a season of profound transition. Whether you're launching a kid, starting over, or simply remembering how to listen to your own heart again, this episode will speak to you in this season. Thought-provoking Quotes: “Sometimes in sharing the hardest things, we actually feel less alone.” – Tembi Locke “Sicily is that place of myth and nectar for me. It's one of those places on the planet that is supercharged with the best of what nature has to offer: sun, wind, the sea. It's a beautiful place. It's the place I return to when there's something I don't quite understand and Sicily makes me have to listen to it.” – Tembi Locke “I think when you get to midlife, you need to settle into yourself, be more present with yourself in order to show up for the big moments of change that are happening. Try to anchor in and be as present as possible. Lean into the quiet spaces between the moments.” – Tembi Locke “How can we make space as families and really as mothers at this inflection point to quiet the noise and busyness of life? How can we slow down time, and really mark the moment and honor it?” – Tembi Locke Resources Mentioned in This Episode: From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home by Tembi Locke - https://amzn.to/47s3ZhN From Scratch on Netflix - https://www.netflix.com/title/81104486 Attica Locke - https://www.atticalocke.com/ Someday, Now: A Memoir of Family, Reclaiming Possibility, and One Sicilian Summer by Tembi Locke - https://amzn.to/3LLKUyA Guest's Links: Website - https://www.tembilocke.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/tembilocke/ Podcast - https://www.tembilocke.com/podcast Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. Welcome back, Queens. Today, we're heading to Brazil to get into the life of the iconic fashion designer turned political activist, Zuzu Angel. In the middle of Brazil's 1960s–70s military dictatorship, Zuzu turned her runway into a rebellion. Her bright, tropical designs celebrated the culture her government was trying to silence, and when her son was “disappeared” for opposing the regime, she used fashion itself as protest. Hal Elrod is the bestselling author of "The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)." The book offers a practical morning routine that has transformed the lives of over 3 million people. In this episode, Hal describes discovering the six practices that became the SAVERS method (Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing) during the 2008 financial crisis when he needed to rebuild his life and income. He shares how implementing these practices every morning doubled his income within two months and became the foundation for helping millions of others. Listen to the full episode to hear how Hal turned life's hardest moments into practical tools for personal transformation and daily excellence. You can find episode 485 on YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts! Watch this Episode on YouTube | Hal Elrod on Transform Your Life (Before 8AM) https://bit.ly/TLP-485 Key Takeaways [02:44] Hal reveals he realized during cancer at 37 that he was a workaholic, so now he drives his kids to school daily and shortens his workday to align with his family priority. [04:33] Hal explains he learned the five minute rule at age 20 selling Cutco by feeling emotions for five minutes then saying "can't change it" and moving forward. [07:25] Hal recounts being hit by a drunk driver at 70 mph at age 20 where he broke 11 bones and died at the scene for six minutes but applied the five minute rule to accept his reality. [13:26] Hal confirms the five minute rule is the practical bridge to Viktor Frankl's concept of choosing one's attitude in any circumstance. [21:05] Hal explains the Miracle Morning program and why the morning routine is important for making every day your best day. [29:37] Hal shares that the expanded edition of his book adds 20 pages to the SAVERS section and two new chapters called the Miracle Evening and the Miracle Life. [33:00] Hal shares that he gives up three hours of work each day to drive his kids to school, choosing lasting memories with them over more book sales. [37:58] Hal explains that his experiences guide him toward a higher power's purpose and shares that his parents' response to his sister's death taught him to turn adversity into service. [43:12] Hal defines a good life as fulfilling your potential in service of others by showing up as your best self every day from a place of love. [46:16] And remember…"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." - Marcus Aurelius Quotable Quotes "It's okay to be negative and get upset when things don't go your way, but do not dwell on it for an extended period of time." "Set your timer for five minutes and give yourself five minutes to feel your emotions fully. Don't suppress them, don't try to act the way you think you should. Bitch, moan, complain, cry, vent, whatever you gotta do." "Every painful emotion that we experienced was self created by our resistance to our reality." "The last of man's freedoms, is to choose one's own attitude in any given set of circumstances." "You cannot change reality in this moment as it exists. You can only do things in this moment to change the next moment or the moment after that." "I believe that we create our own statistics." "Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development." "If you win the morning, you win the day because you're putting yourself in a peak physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state." "Family men with businesses, not businessmen with families." (Front Row Dads tagline) "Everything you've been through is intentional and it's part of your journey, so you can help as many people as you possibly can." "Every day you wake up and you ask like, what's the best version of myself today? How can I show up at my best? How can I fulfill my limitless God given potential today? It's fulfilling your potential in service of others." On the remastered 11th episode of the Murdaugh Murders Podcast, journalists Liz Farrell and Mandy Matney revisits the chaotic days following Alex Murdaugh's alleged roadside shooting — a moment that exposed the cracks in the powerful lawyer's web of lies and manipulation.Through exclusive reporting and sharp skepticism, Mandy questions whether the “suicide-for-hire” story ever made sense, unraveling contradictions between what Alex's attorneys claimed and what evidence actually showed. This episode also captures how media outlets were misled by Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin's PR spin — and why challenging their narrative became a defining moment for independent journalism.Revisiting this episode now, it's clear this was when the Murdaugh myth began to crumble publicly, revealing not only a desperate man but a culture (and legacy media) that long protected him.Episode References“Accused of misappropriation of funds, Alex Murdaugh resigns from law firm and enters rehab” - Hampton County Guardian, Updated Sept 7, 2021“Lawyer Shot After Wife and Son Were Killed Had Been Pushed Out of Law Firm” - New York Times, Sept 6, 2021

It began with a baby's cry in an empty Louisiana nursery—soft, rhythmic, and unmistakably real. But the infant it belonged to was across town. As the years went on, the house revealed its true nature: whispers in the halls, toys that moved on their own, drawings spilling from closets, and a presence that seemed fixated on one child in particular. Then came the brother who changed. Withdrawn, angry, and tormented by voices that drove him to do the unthinkable. His journal told of glowing eyes and something watching him from the dark corners of his room. After he left, the house grew quieter—but not empty. The girl grew up and moved away, believing the evil was buried with that house. But when shadows began reappearing in new places—her dreams, her reflection, the beach beside her own—the truth became undeniable: whatever haunted them wasn't tied to the home. It was tied to them. A curse that outlived the walls it began in. A voice that once whispered, “I'm never leaving.” And a family marked by something that doesn't just haunt—it inherits. This is not just a haunting story. Erin Loechner is back for her third visit with a deeply freeing message for parents: you can step off the conveyor belt and still raise kids who thrive. From TV sets and Disney stages to off-grid cabins and a garden full of slow surprises, Erin has lived a dozen lives—and let many of them go. She and Ginny explore how seasons change slowly, why “success” can be lovingly rejiggered, and how refusing the race no longer meant for you is often the bravest step forward. If you've ever wondered whether opting out will leave you behind, this conversation says the quiet part out loud: it won't. It will bring you home. Then they get wonderfully practical. Erin shows how to flip Big Tech's playbook for the good of your family—bringing surprise, challenge, streaks, and shared goals back offline. Think a jelly bean in a coat pocket to reward real-world habits, a “treasure chest” microwave with small delights, fridge trackers instead of app streaks, midnight sundaes, silly-string welcomes, and family projects that build interdependence (yes, decks and ponds count). Along the way, they celebrate the outdoors as the world's best noise-absorber and soul-reset. Her faith, compassion, understanding, dedication and display of radical love has truly been life-changing for me. I was so overwhelmed with feelings of confusion, guilt, and sadness. I felt lost and didn't know how to navigate through the emotional turmoil I was experiencing. However, from the very first call, Jenny created a safe and non-judgmental space for me to share my details. Her ability to listen attentively and empathize while helping me understand a different way of thinking is truly remarkable. Instead of providing feedback after decisions are made, families co-create guidelines and initiatives from the start, promoting empowerment and more meaningful parent presence. They describe barriers such as recruitment, compensation, scheduling, and staff uncertainty, and offer practical strategies including foundation support, transparent role expectations, and diversifying family representation. When your past has been uprooted, how do you hold on to who you are? For Haleh Shoa, that question shaped her life. At just nine years old, she fled Iran with her family during the Revolution — carrying little more than a few cherished photos. Those images became her connection to home, her culture, and her story. Decades later, after a thriving career in luxury advertising, Haleh realized that storytelling was still at the heart of everything she did — but now, she wanted those stories to mean something deeper. That realization led her to found Picturli, a photo organization and legacy storytelling studio dedicated to helping families preserve their memories and reconnect with their histories. In this episode, Haleh breaks down how to honor your story, protect your memories, and transform personal pain into purposeful creativity. The Emotional Power Of Preservation What if the stories that shaped your brand were lost? Haleh shares how preserving memories goes beyond nostalgia and is an act of protecting your identity. Through her family's experience of displacement and the lessons learned from clients who've lost irreplaceable archives, she challenges founders to think about their own story as an asset worth safeguarding. The message: don't just build a business. Build something that remembers where it came from. Turning Chaos Into Legacy Haleh reveals how her team at Picturely transforms thousands of disorganized photos into cohesive, lasting legacies—and how that same principle applies to entrepreneurs. By bringing clarity and intention to the stories you share, you can turn complexity into connection and create a brand that stands the test of time. You know, yes, it has to hit the right audience, but it's coming from us. It's like something that we create. So it really has to feel right from our soul." 29:21 - 29:37 "A lot of growth comes from within, right? It's that alignment that you have in your own heart about what you're creating, and sometimes I fall off track and go, "Oh, my God. Why am I doing this?" And then I have to go back to my why." Quotes "Good enough is not enough." "Think of your future self." "The challenge is a learning experience. It's all happening for you, and not to you."
