One of the most intriguing, humbling, and challenging aspects of being a parent is how our kids mirror who WE are. And what's really difficult are the societal — or cultural — norms shaping who we are as humans. Who are we becoming as adults? How are the decisions we make shaping our kids?Do our unrealized emotions influence how resilient our kids are becoming? As we continue our series on Raising Gen Alpha Kids, these are questions Dr. Josh and Christi address. Some highlights include: What it means to “choose your hard”How loneliness becomes a byproduct of self-protectionHow silence plays itself out in marriage and the cost it has on our kidsWhat if you're exhausted and can't choose the hard thing? The joy and “hard” of helping our kids build resilienceTime Stamps:0:00 Introduction1:28 Ways to go deeper7:30 Choosing your hard11:40 Loneliness and the environment of the home16:19 How loneliness becomes a byproduct of our self-protection20:03 How silence plays itself out in marriage and the cost it has on our kids23:10 What if you're exhausted and can't choose the hard thing?27:48 Choosing a different kind of “hard”32:41 The joy and “hard” of helping our kids build resilience Show Notes:Ladies, sign up here for Spring Tender & Fierce Cohort! https://www.famousathome.com/tenderandfierce Interested in our Spring Love Your Marriage Cohort? In this episode of The Child Psych Podcast, we're joined by Rebecca Geshuri, licensed marriage and family therapist, certified in Internal Family Systems, Perinatal Mental Health, and Brainspotting, and co-author of When Good Moms Feel Bad.Rebecca is the Founder of Second Street Collective, where she provides psychotherapy and support to moms and families throughout California. In addition to her clinical work, she teaches workshops to therapists, physicians, doulas, and yoga practitioners, has presented at the IFS Institute and Postpartum Support International conferences, and has been featured on several prominent podcasts. Her work is deeply grounded in both clinical expertise and the lived experience of being a mother to three daughters. You can find her on social media @rebeccageshurilmft.In this powerful and deeply validating conversation, Rebecca helps us understand why the mothers who care the most often struggle the most—and why maternal distress is not a sign of failure, but a signal that something tender needs attention.Together, we explore how Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers a compassionate framework for depathologizing maternal rage, anxiety, and guilt, and how understanding our internal “parts” can transform the way we parent in real time. Rebecca explains the difference between Good Mom parts and Bad Mom parts—and why both are actually trying to protect us—and unpacks the role shame plays in keeping mothers silent and isolated. We also talk about unblending: how creating space from overwhelming emotions allows mothers to respond more calmly to their children, even in the hardest moments. Rebecca speaks directly to parents who fear their anger is damaging their children, offering a powerful reframe about nervous systems, repair, and connection. She also shares how healing a mother's inner world directly supports a child's regulation, attachment, and sense of safety. Finally, Rebecca introduces the concept of the Inner Mom—the calm, compassionate internal leader every parent already has—and offers gentle guidance on how to access that part when overwhelm takes over. This episode is a must-listen for any parent who has ever wondered:Why is this so hard if I love my child so much? And for any mother who fears she's already failed, Rebecca offers a message of deep reassurance, hope, and permission to begin again.Find her on social @rebeccageshurilmftHere is the link to her new book, "When Good Mom's Feel Bad" : https://rebeccageshurilmft.com/book

From the pressure to “get it right” to the constant second-guessing, so many of us carry quiet questions in motherhood: Am I doing enough? Am I messing this up? Am I a good mom? In this episode of Carpool Conversations, Sara and Marissa sit down with author and podcast host Hallie Dye to talk honestly about the weight moms carry—and the freedom found in surrendering that weight to the One who never fails. Hallie shares the heart behind her first book, You're Still a Good Mom: Motherhood Surrendered to the One Who Never Fails, and unpacks what it really means to be “a good mom” from a biblical perspective. Together, they discuss why our limitations are by design, how surrender reshapes the way we approach our roles, and how to navigate the tension between responsibility and trust in God. Whether you're in the thick of diapers and sleepless nights or navigating new challenges with older kids, this conversation is a gentle reminder: your worth was never meant to be measured by your performance. Motherhood comes with opinions — from family, friends, social media, and often the loudest critic of all… ourselves. In this episode, we explore The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins through the lens of motherhood, postpartum struggles, and the emotional work of becoming the moms we truly want to be. What happens when we stop trying to control how others perceive our parenting? What changes when we release the pressure to meet everyone else's expectations? We talk about people-pleasing, boundary guilt, healing after postpartum depression, and the freedom that comes when we allow others to misunderstand our choices — while choosing peace anyway.Because healing in motherhood isn't about doing more or trying harder. It's about letting go.If you've ever felt overwhelmed by judgment, exhausted from trying to be everything to everyone, or disconnected from the mom you thought you'd be… this conversation is for you.✨ Let them have opinions.✨ Let them not understand.✨ Let yourself heal. This episode is an invitation to release control, protect your mental health, and step into motherhood with more clarity, confidence, and compassion.
When you are in the thick of raising children, it can feel overwhelming to sort through expectations, opinions, and the daily logistics of family life. In this conversation, Jennifer shares what nearly three decades of motherhood have taught her about choosing peace in each season, homeschooling at your own pace, navigating special needs with a focus on progress, and letting go of unnecessary pressure. This episode offers perspective and encouragement for building a peaceful family culture that reflects your unique family. In this episode, we cover: - Introducing Jennifer's family of seven children ranging from 28 to 12 years old, life on a Wisconsin cranberry farm, and decades of homeschooling - What no one tells you about having a wide age range of children and the surprising gift of older kids becoming your “allies” in family life - How perspective shifts as children grow up, get married, and start families of their own, and why the years truly do move faster than you think - Letting go of early motherhood pressures about tidy homes, perfect routines, and outside expectations in order to create a peaceful family culture - Rethinking homeschool success through the lens of progress over grade levels, especially when navigating special needs - Practical rhythms for homeschooling multiple children with different abilities without doing everything at the same time - The freedom that comes with age and experience—why comparison loses its grip and confidence grows over time - Overthinking in modern motherhood, the pressure to “get it right” the first time, and permission to change your mind as you grow - What it's actually like to become a young grandmother while still raising children at home and how that dynamic reshapes family life - Embracing the evolving nature of family seasons instead of trying to control or predict them View full show notes on the blog + watch this episode on YouTube. In this solo episode, Dr. Taz breaks down why bro science and modern biohacking culture often backfire for women, and how pushing harder, optimizing more, and chasing protocols can quietly drive hormone chaos, burnout, inflammation, and nervous system dysregulation. She explains why so many women are told their labs are “normal” while their bodies are clearly signaling that something is off, and how medical models that isolate symptoms fail to capture how women's systems actually work. This episode is rooted in the same clinical patterns that led Dr. Taz to writeThe Hormone Shift. After years of watching women come into her practice exhausted, inflamed, and dismissed by conventional care, she began documenting the repeating cycles she saw across life stages, from teens to perimenopause to post-menopause. You'll learn why women were historically excluded from research, how that gap still shapes today's treatment models, and why intensity, calorie restriction, and rigid optimization strategies may worsen hormonal imbalance, metabolic stress, and emotional exhaustion in female bodies. This episode reframes women's health as a whole-body system, not a protocol stack, and explores why safety, rhythm, recovery, and regulation matter more than force. This conversation reframes healing as a process of supporting interconnected systems, not overriding them. Hormones, gut health, immune function, nervous system regulation, emotional safety, stress load, and life stage are not separate variables. When these systems fall out of sync, symptoms multiply. When they are supported together, the body can restore balance, energy, and resilience.Dr. Taz shares: • Why bro science and biohacking trends often backfire for women • How “normal labs” can still mean your body is not functioning optimally • Why women's bodies were historically excluded from research and how that impacts care today • How pushing harder, restricting calories, and overtraining disrupt hormones and metabolism • Why women's nervous systems require safety, rhythm, and recovery to heal • How stress physiology, trauma patterns, and life stage shape women's health outcomes • Why hormones don't act in isolation, but communicate with the gut, immune system, and brain • Where modern tools like HRT, GLP-1s, peptides, and protocols fit and where they fall short • How to build a sustainable, personalized approach to women's health that works with the body, not against itWhether you're feeling dismissed by your labs, burned out from trying every new wellness trend, or frustrated by protocols that seem to work for others but not for you, this episode offers a grounded, integrative framework for understanding what women's bodies actually need.Women don't heal through force. They heal through safety, rhythm, and whole-system support.Stay Connected:Connect further to Hol+ at https://holplus.co/- Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to stay updated on future episodes of hol+.Follow Dr. Taz on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drtazmd/https://www.instagram.com/liveholplus/Subscribe to the audio podcast: https://holplus.transistor.fm/subscribeSubscribe to the video podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@DrTazMD/podcastsGet your copy of The Hormone Shift: Balance Your Body and Thrive Through Midlife and MenopauseHost & Production TeamHost: Dr. Taz; Produced by ClipGrowth.com (Producer: Pat Gostek)Chapters0:00 Women told it's “normal” and “in your head” 1:13 Holistic approach and the “five bodies” 1:25 Why Dr. Taz is done with “bro science” 4:25 “Your labs are normal” and the dismissal problem 5:20 Why biohacking culture worsens women's health 6:10 HRT, IVF, peptides, GLP-1s without a holistic context 8:18 Why AI and protocols can't replace the whole-woman lens 9:01 What bro science gets wrong (intensity, restriction, isolated hormones) 10:31 Life stage, stress load, nervous system, trauma, lineage 11:45 Bias against women and what it means in the exam room 13:28 Why “evidence-based” fails women when studies exclude women 14:20 What “evidence-based holistic medicine” actually means 16:19 Stats on women's health disparities and research gaps 17:55 Where are you on the health spectrum: powering through vs powering up 18:21 Identify your biggest symptom and quality-of-life limiter 20:00 Don't let “normal labs” end the story, track patterns over time 21:10 Female stress response, intuition, and cortisol sensitivity 24:15 Hormones, gut, immune system triangle and inflammation 27:00 Stress processing differences and guardrails 28:15 Safety as the foundation of women's health 30:10 Women's rhythms: hormones, sleep, food, nervous system 32:50 A woman's body doesn't respond to force 34:25 What holistic healing for women actually looks like 35:39 Closing: share this with a woman who needs it (00:00) - Women told it's “normal” and “in your head” (01:13) - Holistic approach and the “five bodies” (01:25) - Why Dr. Taz is done with “bro science” (04:25) - “Your labs are normal” and the dismissal problem (05:20) - Why biohacking culture worsens women's health (06:10) - HRT, IVF, peptides, GLP-1s without a holistic context (08:18) - Why AI and protocols can't replace the whole-woman lens (09:01) - What bro science gets wrong (intensity, restriction, isolated h...

You are going to love this episode. Today we are going to dive into a teenager's emotional life. I think what makes parenting teens so challenging is dealing with their intense emotions. Sometimes you're the target of their emotional storms and sometimes they turn their emotions inward. You worry about them being depressed or anxious. How many times have we brought up a simple request to our teen, but it turns out to be not so simple because it triggers a huge emotional response? Moms can find themselves avoiding talking about important topics because they don't know how to handle their emotions. I invited Dr. Lisa Damour, the author of The Emotional Lives of Teenagers, to talk about this nuanced subject of teenage emotions. In this episode we focus on her chapter called Managing Emotions, Part One: Helping Teens Express Their Emotions and the following chapter called Managing Emotions, Part Two: Helping Teens Regain Emotional Control Recognized as a thought leader by the American Psychological Association, Lisa Damour, Ph.D., co-hosts the Ask Lisa podcast, writes about adolescents for the The New York Times, appears as a regular contributor to CBS News, works in collaboration with UNICEF, and maintains a clinical practice. She is the author of three New York Times bestsellers, The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood and Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls. Is positive psychology real science… or just another version of “just think positive” that ignores real stress? In this episode of the Free to Be Mindful Podcast, Vanessa De Jesus Guzman sits down with positive psychology expert Diane Lang to explore what the research actually says about gratitude, resilience, mindset, and positive aging. If you are raising kids, juggling work, navigating midlife changes, or feeling stretched thin, you may have wondered whether practices like gratitude really make a difference. Is it toxic positivity? Or is there measurable science behind it?This conversation breaks down:The difference between positive psychology and forced positivityWhy we need three positive emotions to balance one negativeHow gratitude rewires the brain over timeThe role belief systems play in midlife transitions and agingWhy lifestyle and mindset influence longevity more than we thinkPositive psychology does not deny grief, anxiety, or depression. It works alongside therapy, medication, and traditional treatment to build emotional resilience and long-term wellbeing. For moms navigating stress, perimenopause, identity shifts, and the invisible load of family life, this episode offers practical, research-backed habits that are realistic, free, and sustainable.THREE KEY TAKEAWAYS1. Positive psychology is evidence-based and practical. It strengthens resilience without dismissing pain. It is about building emotional capacity, not pretending everything is fine.2. Gratitude and kindness shift your brain over time. Consistent daily practices improve sleep, mood, and stress recovery by retraining your negativity bias.3. Positive aging starts with mindset. Genetics play a role, but lifestyle, belief systems, relationships, and daily habits have significant influence over how we age physically and emotionally.Connect with Diane: https://dianelang.org/ If this episode challenged your thinking or shifted your perspective, share it with another mom who may need it.Because the more good we train our brains to notice, the more grounded we become. In a world where you are free to be anything, you are always free to be mindful.Send a textSupport the show120 COPING SKILLShttps://www.freetobemindful.com/podcast-120copingskillsGET THE MUSE HEADBAND AT A DISCOUNT!https://choosemuse.com/freetobemindfulUse this link to get 15% off your total when you purchase the amazing brain sensing headband that tells you when you're in a meditative state and guides you to improve your practice.LET'S STAY CONNECTED:

If you've been running to lose weight but the scale won't budge, this episode is for you. I used to run multiple half marathons - logging 3-4 runs per week with 7+ mile weekend runs - and my body looked exactly the same. In today's episode I'm sharing 3 key reasons why I didn't lose weight with running. And if you are a mom trying to lose weight, I also share about a better approach: strength training. When you lift weights, your body adapts by building muscle - which burns calories 24/7, not just during your workout. This creates sustainable fat loss at a higher calorie level, so you're not starving yourself. In my Fat Loss Formula for Moms program, we focus on resistance training that actually changes your body composition while fitting into your busy life. What starts as a discussion about playlists and nostalgia quickly turns into something deeper; motherhood, growth, and the moments that connect us long after the songs fade out. This episode brings back the original MATM energy: honest stories, unexpected laughter, and the kind of conversation that feels more like sitting in a living room than recording a podcast. There's a light nod to an emo-girl era that may or may not still exist somewhere in our playlists, but at its heart, this is a story about real moms, real experiences, and the music that carries us through every season.Link to YouTube Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwnGrdjqohPJIJeF7513msLqvY_sBRVNQ&si=Ladnkh-5VwOO81vvSend a textThe Classic MATM intro the sound that tells you, we're coming back from or going to break/ad ok byyyyeee Support the show

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Cedric Howard about a topic that resonates deeply with many moms in our community: returning to school later in life. Dr. Howard shared powerful stories from his own family, illustrating the generational impact of pursuing higher education. We talked about the importance of embracing your role as a mom in the classroom and how those experiences can be your greatest asset, not a hindrance. Our conversation left me with a profound realization: education is not just for personal growth but can transform family legacies. If you've ever considered going back to school, take this as your sign to explore the possibilities. The journey may require some adjustments, but as Dr. Howard emphasized, it's okay to be a little selfish with your education after years of being selfless. If you're ready to take that step, start by telling your story and showcasing the resilience and skills motherhood has instilled in you. Get access to 5 Days to Less Stress, More Satisfaction before it closes! Have you ever felt the quiet, constant pressure to be a "good mom"? The one who stays patient, selfless and grateful, even while running on fumes? In this episode, Whitney connects with Andrea O'Reilly to examine the expectations mothers carry and the invisible systems shaping their lives. From the concept of the "motherhood wall" to the cultural myths we absorb without realizing it, they explore why so many women feel stretched thin, unseen and perpetually behind, even when they are doing more than enough. Whitney reflects on how easily we internalize this strain as personal failure. Dr. O'Reilly reframes the story: what if the problem is not you, but the structure you are operating inside? Together, they challenge the myth of the endlessly self-sacrificing "Good Mother," unpack the false divide between working mothers and stay-at-home mothers, and argue for choice, agency and dignity without apology. This conversation moves beyond coping. It offers language, context and a wider lens. You will leave feeling validated, clearer about what you are carrying, and reminded that your exhaustion is not a character flaw. Press play and step into a more truthful, compassionate narrative. Here's what you can look forward to in this episode: What the motherhood wall is and how it impacts women beyond just career conversations How cultural norms and systemic structures shape the experience of modern motherhood Why so many moms internalize their struggles as personal failure The lasting impact of the "Good Mother" myth and unrealistic standards The importance of solidarity and community among mothers Reclaiming visibility and value for maternal labor and caregiving work An introduction to matricentric feminism and what it means for mothers today Reflection question to ponder: Is this necessary, and is this good for me and my family? Rebekah and Lauren, hosts of the Moms of the Lou podcast, interview Amanda Brandt, a St. Louis realtor and mom of three. Amanda discusses her transition from teaching to real estate and highlights the current real estate market's volatility, noting a shift towards a buyer's market with fewer multiple offers and more negotiation power for buyers. Amanda recommends upgrades like painting, lighting, and curb appeal to increase a home's value. You can follow Amanda on Instagram for more real estate information. New to St. Louis? Don't forget to check out our Moving to St. Louis guide!Amanda Brandt is a local realtor and mom of three wild and wonderful boys: Noah, Charlie (both 7), and Milo (4, but absolutely convinced he's 7). She grew up in the St. Louis area, spending her childhood splashing through creeks, hiking wooded trails, and falling in love with the natural beauty of Missouri. That deep-rooted love for this state still shows up in her life every day — whether exploring new hidden gem coffee shops or hiking through the countryside. Amanda & her husband Josh live in Chesterfield, and their days are full of house projects, backyard chaos, and outdoor adventures. You can usually find them covered in sawdust, wrestling in the grass, or chasing their boys through a splash pad. As a working mom, Amanda cherishes the small moments — laughter over dinner, lattes with friends, and a home that feels full of life (and probably Legos). Amanda is so grateful to live in a place that feels like home — surrounded by community, connection, and opportunity. This week, we were joined on the podcast by two moms in suburban Minneapolis. Their upbringings were very different: Stef is a white woman from a small town in southern Minnesota and Nina grew up in Somalia, where her father was a political prisoner. But this year, these two friends are standing side by side to protect their community against ICE.Their friendship was so sweet (each insisting that the other is the true inspiration) but it's also strategic: strong connections between neighbors and friends is how Minnesota has stood up against this year's ICE invasion.Stef and Nina confirmed all of the amazing stories we've been hearing. In -25 degree weather, Minnesotans are out protesting. They're collecting diapers and groceries for families who are too scared to leave their homes. They're even riding on school busses to make sure that kids get to school safe. Nina says it's what her adoptive state is all about.“In this community, we pray together. We share resources with one another. We take care of each other. Everybody is trying to help and stand up for their next door neighbor. Words cannot say how I how I feel about that, and that makes me wanna do more. We are all in this together and feeling this fear, but it turned out to be a strength and inspiration. It's amazing. I feel abundance every night when I go to bed.”This is coming from a woman whose family escaped a violent dictator, only to experience that fear again now in America. Nina's positivity and love for her neighbors radiated from her throughout the interview and reminded us that this is the America we're fighting to save.If you're worried about ICE coming to your town, build those friendships now. Organize a neighborhood potluck. Set up a community Signal chat. If you have those relationships and infrastructure in place, you'll be in a much stronger position to get through hard or even dangerous times.Don't miss this week's chat with Stef and Nina! And if you want to learn more or RSVP for our event next Tuesday about Black maternal mortality, you can do so here. For a transcript of this episode, please email comms@redwine.blue. The stats of anxiety, depression, and stress on Gen Z (ages 14-28) are scary and higher than ever before. That's not hyperbole. What have been the cultural, familial, and individual influences at work, and what can parents of Gen Alpha (ages 0-13) learn from where we find ourselves? We believe that parents hold the keys to influencing the next generation. And there is much more hope than might appear at the surface. But the way through is by first addressing what may be our greatest adversary: Our own parental fears. In this episode, we ask the question, “Why are we doing what we're doing as families?” We address issues like the self-fulfilling prophecy, the role of epigenetics in child outcomes, and the spiritual laws that influence our decisions. EP578. This morning I saw a post by @alessandro_frosali about the mental load in the 80s and 90s vs. today, and it sent me spiralling (in the best way). Were moms back then more resilient? Or were they just carrying it all without language, support, or permission to talk about it?In this solo episode, I unpack how the mental load has evolved, from managing a household without Google or group chats… to today's invisible expectations of being the default parent, the memory keeper, the scheduler, the emotional regulator, the career woman, the present mom, the healthy meal planner, the screen-time police, and somehow also hot and well-rested.This isn't about glorifying burnout or minimizing what women carried before us. It's about understanding how the mental load has shifted, and how we can build something better. If you've ever wondered whether you're just “not as strong” as the women who came before you… this conversation is for you.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Anger is an unavoidable part of grief for mothers and for children. It is a God-given emotion that can intensify in the face of loss, exhaustion, and stress. Through Scripture, personal stories, and gentle counsel, this conversation explores how anger can surface, why it can become a barrier to healing if left unchecked, and how God invites us to bring our anger to Him rather than letting it take root. Moms are encouraged to respond with wisdom, create a safe space for their children to express big emotions, and trust God to redeem even this part of the journey.Key Takeaways:Anger is not the enemy, but letting it stay and linger can become a barrier to healingGrief can move from shock to frustration, and anger may surface later in the journeyPause and respond with wisdom instead of reacting, so anger does not lead to regret or bitternessBring anger honestly to the Lord, and ask Him to shepherd your heart and guide your next stepsKey Scriptures:Psalm 37:8–9, Proverbs 16:32, 29:11, Ecclesiastes 7:9, Ephesians 4:26–27, 31, James 1:19–20ConnectIf this episode encouraged you, we would love to stay connected. The Barbell Mamas Podcast | Pregnancy, Postpartum, Pelvic Health
Ready to trade rigid rules for a smarter return-to-sport plan? We walk through a groundbreaking consensus published in BJSM that maps a postpartum pathway for soccer players—and any active mom—built on real-world variables: medical red flags, mental health, pelvic symptoms, sleep, stress, and the demands of life with a newborn. Instead of a one-size-fits-all protocol, this framework offers seven clear stages, plus field-tested progressions from non-contact drills to match conditions, all co-signed by clinician and athlete to keep you at the center of decisions. We also tackle the nuanced role of GLP-1 medications. Higher BMI can increase pelvic floor load and low-grade inflammation, so clinically guided weight loss may help symptoms, even as data continue to evolve. We unpack the buzz about “GLP-1 vagina,” explain why fat loss can change labial appearance regardless of method, and highlight what matters most: preserving muscle with resistance training, fueling well despite appetite changes, and looping in your pelvic health provider so your plan is coordinated, safe, and effective. Preconception and postpartum timing, PCOS considerations, and realistic expectations for weight changes during pregnancy all get careful attention. Finally, we reset expectations around postpartum pelvic changes. Vaginal opening, urethral mobility, and transient heaviness often reflect normal adaptation, not failure.
