Send us a textIn this episode, we hear from Jim McCloskey about the journey that took him from the corporate world to his current work with those who have been wrongly convicted of crimes. McCloskey is the author of When Truth is All You Have, and co-wrote Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions with John Grisham.
Vandaag bespreken we het boek Give and Take van Adam Grant. Ondertitel: Why helping others drives our success Auteur: American popular science author, and professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania specializing in organizational psychology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Grant Dit boek Give and taken (Geven en nemen) komt uit 2013. Zijn nieuwste boek is Hidden Potential. Ander boeken van Grant zijn Originals en Think Again. TED Podcast Re Thinking interviewt bekende mensen https://adamgrant.net/podcasts/rethinking/ TED talks https://adamgrant.net/speaking/ In 2017 Grant co-founded (along with University of Michigan professor Wayne Baker and entrepreneur Cheryl Baker) Give and Take, Inc.,[15] a company that makes a software called Givitas, a web-based SaaS platform designed to help organizations implement the principles from his book Give and Take. https://www.giveandtakeinc.com/givitas De twee oprichters van dit bedrijf zijn: Adam Grant in Give and Take Dr. Wayne Baker in All You Have to Do is Ask. TED talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyXRYgjQXX0 Build cultures where givers succeed. protect givers from burnout (5 minute favor) encourage help seeking get the right people on the bus (weeding out the takers) Pronoia - uitgangspunt is dat anderen het goed met je voor hebben. De inhoudsopgave uit de Nederlandse vertaling: 1 Wie goed doet, goed ontmoet?2 De pauw en de panda3 Het rimpeleffect4 Speuren naar ruwe diamanten5 De kracht van krachteloze communicatie6 Gemotiveerd blijven7 Van tobber tot topper8 Het Scrooge-effect9 Uit de schaduw treden Inhoudsopgave Good returns - The dangers and rewards of giving more than you get The Peacock and the Panda - How givers, takers and matchers build networks The ripple effect - collaboration and the dynamics of giving and taking credit Finding the diamond in the rough - The fact and fiction of recognizing potential The Power of powerless communication - How to be modest and influence people The Art of motivation maintenance - Why some givers burn out but others are on fire Chump Change - overcoming the doormat effect The Scrooge Shift - Why a soccer team, a fingerprint and a name can tilt us in the other direction Out of the shadows Actions for impact Good returns - The dangers and rewards of giving more than you get David Hornik - een investeerder die een ondernemer (voetbalvader) helpt om een investeerder te vinden, en doet zelf ook een aanbod, maar Danny Shader kiest eerst een andere partij. Takers feel they need to be better than others. Givers, you help whenever the benefits to others exceed the personal costs Matchers strive to preserve an equal balance. Uitleg dat Givers are the least and most successful.

In this episode of Conversations on Careers and Professional Life, I share some advice on reframing how you think about “networking” and asking for help. Move beyond the idea of collecting contacts Focus on building genuine relationships and learning from others Nurture connections over time for mutual benefit Understand that asking for help can actually benefit the person helping you Overcome the fear of being a burden when seeking assistance Strengthen relationships by showing trust and vulnerability Recognize that your network includes all communities you're part of Look for professional opportunities in unexpected places (e.g., school events, volunteer activities) "Real networking is about building relationships. It's about getting to know people, learning from them, and creating genuine connections." Action Steps for Listeners Reflect on recent interactions: What can you learn from someone you've met recently? What could you offer them? Practice asking for help: Reach out to someone in your network for assistance this week Map your communities: List all the different groups you're a part of and consider how they might connect to your professional life Check out out the books, Designing Your Life or Designing Your Work Life by Bill Burnet and Dave Evans, All You Have to Do is Ask by Wayne Baker, and Give and Take by Adam Grant.

“Start your goals and dreams earlier.” - Wayne BakerImagine you're on a deadline for a big project and feeling overwhelmed, or you're looking for a new job, but you can't seem to get your foot in the door, or perhaps you're facing a personal challenge and just don't know what to do. What do these problems have in common? They can all be solved simply by reaching out to a colleague, friend, acquaintance, or wider network and making an ask.Studies show that asking for help makes us better and less frustrated at our jobs. It helps us find new opportunities and new talent. It unlocks new ideas and solutions and enhances team performance, and it also helps us get the things we need outside the workplace. And yet we rarely give ourselves permission to ask.Luckily, the research shows that asking for and getting what we need is much easier than we think. Wayne Baker shares dozens of tools used at companies like Google, GM, and IDEO that individuals, teams, and leaders can use to make asking for help a personal and organizational habit, such as smart criteria for making an ask, plug and play routines that make requests a standard component of meetings, mini-games that incentivize asking within teams and the Reciprocity Ring, and Givitas tools that allow people to tap into the giving power of a network.Wayne Baker is a Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan, ROSS School of Business Faculty Director of the Center for Positive Organizations.Click here to subscribe to The Deep Wealth Podcast to save time and effort.SELECTED LINKS FOR THIS EPISODE'All You Have To Do Is Ask'Wayne Baker (@DrWayneBaker) / TwitterJoin a Free Community of Givers | Give and Take IncWayne Baker - Faculty CO-Director - Center for Positive Organizations | LinkedInBook: Amazon.com: All You Have to Do Is Ask: How to Master the Most Important Skill for Success eBook : Baker, Wayne: Kindle StoreCockroach Startups: What You Need To Know To Succeed And ProsperFREE Deep Wealth eBook on Why You Suck At Selling Your Business And What You Can Do About It (Today)Book Your FREE Deep Wealth Strategy CallResources To Have You Thrive And ProsperThe Deep Wealth Podcast brings you a wealth of world-class thought leaders who share invaluable resources and insights. Hello to you listening in Cascais, Lisbon, Portugal!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I am delighted to announce the recent launch of a thought-provoking book by my friend and colleague Dr. Eric Zabiegalski entitled UNTHINK, All You Have to Do Is Nothing. What's eye-opening about this new book? The very notion that by unblocking the subconscious we can better navigate this reality we live in. Imagine if we could leave behind the compulsory "thinking" cycle by linking awareness, observation, and the voice in our head to come up with a clearer, more authentic view of now and tomorrow. What's cutting edge? Joining Indigenous ways of knowing with Western ways and science, UNTHINK weaves seminal research, practical advice, and storytelling to teach you the fine art of building mental flexibility. What if you could distinguish intuition from bias, memory from awareness, observation from reflexive thought? You can! Dr. Eric and his book will teach you how. Get out of your head, start UNTHINK-ing, and live better!LINKS to Dr. Eric's work and to purchase a copy of UNTHINK are right here in the Episode Notes:UNTHINK: All You Have to Do Is Nothing Get in touch with Dr. Eric Zabiegalski: World Institute for Action Learning BizCatalyst 360 LinkedInYou're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! You know when you see a really good dancer? What separates the good ones from the not-so-good ones? Well, it is all about one specific part of the body. I start this episode by telling which body part that is and why it is so important. http://www.nature.com/articles/srep42435 Ever wonder why some people are so much more likable than others? Nicholas Boothman knows. He has researched this and authored a book on the subject called How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less (https://amzn.to/3RVLybP) Listen as he joins me to explain what it is that will get people to like you and how to avoid doing and saying those things that turn people off. It seems like common sense that if you need something from someone else, you just ask them. Yet asking for help is hard for so many of us. We like to think we can and should do things for ourselves. However, asking others for help may be a really smart things to do for reasons beyond what you ever imagined. It not only does NOT make you look weak, it does just the opposite. And the truth is people like to help – but only if you ask. Listen as I talk about this with Wayne Baker, professor of Business Administration & Faculty Director of the Center for Positive Organizations at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He is also author of the book All You Have to Do is Ask (https://amzn.to/2VMts12) and he joins me to explain the amazing power and benefits of asking for what you need. Recommend this show by sharing the link: pod.link/2Pages What's your relationship with ambition? I feel I'm both ambitious, and not. On one hand, I want to grow into the best of who I am and have a life of contentment, but on the other, there are some status-based trophies that just don't matter to me as they once did. I've come to realize that it's only by having pursued and–in some cases–won some of those trophies, have I started to appreciate what my bigger, more internally-driven goals might be. Shellye Archambeau, author of Unapologetically Ambitious, was ranked one of the 100 Most Influential Business Leaders in America, reflecting a 30 year career of leadership roles in various organizations. As such, she has a profound understanding of ambition at the highest echelons of organizational life, and is eager to share what she's learnt along the way. On this episode of Mitlin Money Mindset™, I talk with Adam Connors, Founder & CEO of NetWorkWise, a business platform that expedites outcomes for people through training in the art and science of personal and professional networking. An entrepreneur at heart, Adam has spent over 20 years starting & building companies across a variety of industries. His sole focus these days is teaching people how to NetWorkWise. Adam is a sought-after speaker, social architect, podcast host, and super-connector who has transformed lives and accelerated careers. I asked Adam to tell me how NetworkWise came to be. He said he finds people fascinating and loves to help people out and make connections — something he calls “selfish benevolence.” A few years back, Adam went through a bad situation that caused a lot of stress and tension in his life. He ultimately pulled through, and attributed it to the amazing support system he had — he had many quality people in his life that showed up for him. He kept thinking he wanted to do something to give back. As he reflected on the situation, he realized that it was all these relationships that helped him get through this negative situation. Adam focused on how he could contribute — that is how NetworkWise was born. Listen to the episode to hear all of Adam’s fascinating stories and advice on how to NetworkWise! How are you using the power you have (for good or evil)? Yes, we all have power just through our relationships between colleagues, family, and friends. Thereby, it can be a bit tricky. According to Deborah Gruenfeld, we need to embrace and own our power, even if we are uncomfortable with it. Deb is a social psychologist and the author of Acting with Power. She shares with Kevin that there are levels of power and it is a responsibility that is yours. Often there are negative connotations with power, however, when you look at it in action, force is rarely used. People want to help you, so you will help them. When you have control over another's outcomes you need to think about the interests you are serving; be the person other people hope you will be. This episode is brought to you by... Dan Martell is a Canadian Entrepreneur and most recently, the founder of Clarity.fm. He’s an experienced Angel Investor who has invested in over 23 tech start-ups. Prior to Clarity, Dan was the co-founder of Flowtown (Acquired 11′), founder of Spheric Technologies (Acquired 08′). He has also been a mentor at 500Startups, GrowLabs & theC100.org. Favorite Success Quote “Become the person who can deal” ~Dan Martell Key Points 1. If You Want to Be a Millionaire You Have to Handle Million Dollar Problems Everyone wants to be a millionaire… But the problem is that most people aren’t able to handle million dollar problems. They want the outcome without the action. They want the reward without responsibility. And this approach never works. Just take lottery winners for example. They immediately come into a windfall of cash with millions, sometimes tens of millions of dollars, but they never did a damn thing to earn that money. And five years after their success, studies have shown that they are often worse off than before they won. Why? Because their character didn’t backup their success. You have to earn what you want. If you want to become a millionaire, then you must become the kind of person who can provide millions of dollars of value and handle millions of dollars worth of problems. And quite frankly… Most of you reading this can’t. Yet… So go and focus on developing yourself and becoming the type of person who can handle the challenges and can provide the requisite value to achieve your goals. Because when you go after your goals with this mindset, success becomes all but inevitable. 2. Own It! I’m going to let you in on a little secret here… Shit happens. Life can be chaotic, things will not work out, businesses will fail, lovers will leave you, friends will turn on you… Shit just happens. And I’ll let you in on another little secret… It’s ok! Failure and frustration are an integral part of life, it’s not a question of if it will happen to you but how you will respond when it does. If you are like most people, you will try to pin the blame on someone else, you will deny the reality of your problems, and you will avoid addressing the situation until the last possible minute. But since you are listening to this podcast, you aren’t like most people. And therefore, you must own your problems. When shit happens… OWN IT. When a business fails, a girlfriend walks out, a friend gets angry, own the problem, own your part in the problem, and figure out what you can do moving forward to ensure that it never happens again. 3. Be Grateful for All You Have 150 years ago, if you wanted to go to Canada, you would have been forced to travel for months on end and risk death or serious injury. Today, you can fly there in a matter of hours. 100 years ago, if you wanted the information that we give away for free on this podcast, you would have had to track down each guest individually, convince them to speak with you, and then pick their brain for an hour or more (or at the very least found one of their books). Today… It’s only a mouse click away. You have a lot to be grateful for. We live in an age of unprecedented opportunity, ease, and access and 99% of the things that you take for granted on a daily basis would have dropped our ancestor’s jaws to the floor. We don’t have to hunt… We go to the grocery store. Most of us no longer work hard physical labor, we work at a cushy desk. And if we want to get somewhere, we can tap a button on our phone and have our own personal chafeur show up to our home in under 10 minutes! You have a lot to be grateful for. So starting today, be fucking grateful! Write down three things that you are grateful for each and every day and never lose sight of who you are and just how lucky you are to be alive in this day and age. 4. Be Yourself and Put it Out There If you look at the most successful entrepreneurs in 2017, from the Tim Ferriss’s to the Grant Cardone’s to the Gary Vaynerchucks, you will notice one consistent factor. They are all completely and unapologetically themselves. They don’t care what other people think they don’t care who they offend, they show up in the world authentically and they put it out there for others to see. And if you want to create lasting success, you must do the same. Be who you are. Don’t apologize for it, and don’t ask permission for it. Be who you are and share it with the world. Some will love you, some will hate you, some won’t care and that’s ok. As long as you are living authentically and sharing your gifts and talents with the world, at the end of the day you can call yourself a success. 5.Think About The Long Game In a society built upon instant gratification, you must be a man focused on the long game. Don’t look at the 1-5 year impact of your decisions, instead ask yourself, “What are the ramifications of this decision 20 years from now?” Because here’s a simple fact, 20 years from now you will arrive… The question is “Where”. Will you arrive in style because you were patient, played the long game, learned, grew, and invested? Or will you arrive chasing yet another shiny object because you lacked the discipline and the long term focus to make things work? The choice is yours.
Wayne Baker is a professor at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, and author of All You Have to Do Is Ask, his sixth book. He directs the Center for Positive Organizations and also co-founded Give and Take Inc., an Ann Arbor-based technology firm. Through Wayne’s research, he has discovered that leaders are often happy to help others, but are unwilling to ask for help themselves. The good news is that you can create healthy environments in your organization where asking for help is encouraged and rewarded. Key Takeaways [2:40] As an avid sailor, Wayne had to learn to not panic when everything went awry. [5:35] Some people ask for what they want and others take what’s given. [7:50] Wayne has observed that there are some mentors that want you to be mini versions of them, but he recalls a great mentor of his who was always trying to push Wayne to be a better version of himself. [11:20] People want to be generous, but don’t always know how to help unless you ask them to. [12:15] There are four steps to making a thoughtful request.1. What is the goal of your request?2. What are the resources you need? Come up with a SMART request. And then find ‘who’ you need to ask. [16:50] Most people will help you if you ask! [19:25] It’s hard for leaders to be vulnerable and to ask for help. You can break this mold by creating a 15-minute staff meeting addressing what you need help with. When it’s expected that everyone is supposed to ask for help, it makes it easier for leaders to get the support they need. [25:00] When asking for feedback, it’s important to know what are both your strengths and weaknesses, but you want to get these two pieces of information at different times so that you can better process it. [26:35] Don’t feel comfortable asking for help? Go out and help others first, and then you’ll feel more confident asking for help in return. [30:00] Nobody associates Bill Gates with having a partner or a team, but throughout his career, Bill has relied heavily on the partnerships of others. [32:15] Men have a harder time asking for help compared to women. Wayne believes it has something to do with the way boys and men were raised and socialized. [35:20] It’s a powerful leadership moment when you ask someone for help and together you co-create a solution. [36:20] We are living in a time where we get to reinvent work. [37:00] People support what they help create, so it’s critical to ask for feedback, input, and help. [39:30] Asking for help now is more important than ever. As more people work from home and feel isolated, reach out to your network, do work lunches together, and be proactive in being connected to your social network. Quotable Quotes “The greatest hazard to a mariner is your calendar when you feel you’ve got to be someplace at some time.” “What I discovered over time: asking is the key to generosity.” “One of the barriers to making your request is we might assume that people are unwilling or unable to help us.” “When you know everyone’s going to make a request, it’s a lot easier for you to make a request.” “By helping other people, you earn the privilege of asking for help.” “Unless the leader is willing to ask, they’re going to get limited success in getting other people to do it as well.” “It’s a leadership moment if you ask someone for help and together you co-create a solution.” Resources and Books Mentioned Waynebaker.org All You Have to Do Is Ask: How to Master the Most Important Skill for Success, by Wayne Baker “Feed Forward: Leadership Excellence,” essay by Marshall Goldsmith “Self-Reliance,” essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson The Leadership Podcast is Sponsored by: Cultivate Grit. How much of a role can asking others for help play in achieving our goals? It turns out, quite a bit. In fact, research shows that we're more likely to achieve success if we make asking for help a part of our strategy. Yet, according to Wayne Baker, author of the book, All You Have to Do Is Ask: How to Master the Most Important Skill for Success, most of us rarely do. There are a number of reasons why. One of the most common is our fear that we'll be seen as incompetent. Another is our assumption that we'll be rejected when we ask. Yet research reveals what tends to happen is the opposite. Wayne explains, "The research shows very clearly that even strangers are very likely to help...so, you start with the assumption that most people will help you if they can, and they want to help you." In this interview, Wayne describes tools we can use to get better at asking for help. He even shares the story of putting one of these tools to work for a very special ask of his own -- his tenth wedding anniversary. In fact, his ask led to him giving his wife a surprise ring on national television. Wayne explains, "I had it in my pocket, and I asked them for permission to give it to her. And they let me do it, on air. It was amazing...It was just this incredible experience." Wayne Baker is Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and Professor of Sociology at the University of Michigan. He is also faculty director of the Center for Positive Organizations and co-founder and board member of Give and Take. In this conversation, Wayne describes and illustrates what the barriers are that hold people back from asking for help and what can be done to overcome them. He explains the essential elements of an effective request -- that it’s specific, meaningful, action-oriented, realistic, and time-bound -- and how to assess your style of giving and receiving help, as a useful starting point for becoming smarter about how to cultivate generosity in all the relationships that matter to you.
[00:00:00] Hey, guys. Hi. I would take a few minutes out to talk to you about somebody I was listening to and reading about the last week and some fascinating insights about life that he's reiterated for me. And the person's name is Adam Robinson. Does a lot of things. You can look him up. I heard him on a Tim Ferriss podcast. I think this was part customer 210. The show was brilliant. If you got a chance, please headed out. It's a two hour, one and a half hour episode called The Very Best Version of You. Now, [00:00:30] some of the things one of the questions posed to the two item was that if you give three pieces of advice to somebody, what would they be?[00:00:40] And.[00:00:42] It he articulated what was needed to say. He said very beautifully. Like, I it just it just made me feel alive. I was absolutely decimating everything he was saying. The first one he said was he talked about enthusiasm. And he said that I understand that life is [00:01:00] happening for you. This life exists for you. It's not happening to you. So our disease is happening to you the whole life around you. As for you, what you need to understand is that every single thing in life that you do, you have to do it with enthusiasm. You have to want to do that. And if you don't feel like it, you got to create that enthusiasm. If you want success in it, you will never, ever get success in life if you don't put enthusiasm behind it. And it spoke to me so directly because that's how my life is either. [00:01:30] And this is something else. Somebody else said on another day for this podcast. His name was dance. Servers are on servers. I'm sorry. I will link the guys in the podcast later. He said that in life, when you are given a decision to make about something, you should do something or not. In my head, that's what I do. I think about it. If that idea is a hell, yes, I do it. If it's not, I'm not going to do it. And that's a beautiful word of simplifying life. [00:02:00][00:02:00] You don't have to do everything unless, of course, it's a hell. Yes. And for the hell, yes. Get the enthusiasm going for now. If you guys are very about studying exams and all of that stuff. And that's because my audience is mainly students, I understand that the studying part might not be a hell. Yes. But then think about your goals, your careers. Are they? Hell yes, if they're not. You've got to change them if they are. Maybe you're doing that for families or the family becomes a hell. Yes. So if the hell yes. And you got to give it that enthusiasm. Because the other thing is the reason is because you don't [00:02:30] live alone. I mean, you're not sitting behind a desk all day, 10 hours a day. It is not that kind of job unless it goes you want to be a freelancer or even that you have to go meet people. And the reason I say enthusiasm is because people will feel your enthusiasm. People feed off that the energy you give to them to transfer to them. That'll come out into in the enthusiasm. So the first thing I'll tell my kids is and this is something I live by. Absolutely. And at times I would be honored to be doing something that was giving me enthusiasm or excitement or. Hell, yes. And [00:03:00] I was like, you know what? I'll only do something if it's a hell.[00:03:02] Yes, I am. I'm too or not. I'm almost 40. I got a few years left. I want to only do things that are hell. Yes. And I'll tell you this. Also, make your life more about the hell yes moments and do whatever you need to do with enthusiasm. You meet people, they feed off the enthusiasm that you will have and it will be contagious. People will have much more respect for you. You live a much better impression on them. They will want to see you again. So somebody else said this and I can't [00:03:30] I don't remember the name again, reiterating some smart person. These are all things that somebody else has said. I'm just curating the content for you guys out there. One of the persons said that, you know, that the effect you have on people is the most important or the strongest or the most valuable currency you have. So if you want to have that leverage or that advantage, leverage sometimes is not a positive word. But if you want to have an advantage in relationship, you've got to treat that relationship or any encounter [00:04:00] with that in full enthusiasm. And people would feed off that and they will respect it and they will want it and they will want to meet you again and again and give you that respect. That's one. The second thing that was Adam had shared was that make connections you can use.[00:04:17] Here's a guy who's lived life alone. He's a very smart guy who dental who tended to live his life as a teacher and then a business man and this and that in a very close circle. He didn't want to meet people, but the number of people doesn't matter. But as long as you understand [00:04:30] that in your life, you need to connect with people. Living is connections with people. You can't live alone. There is no way in hell you can go through life living by yourself because living means to connect with people. And that's important, because when you connect with people, you connect with them with a smile, a hug. Awesome. Or just a laugh or a handshake. And that matters now. And you realize it whenever you're miserable generally because you don't have a friend to share that misery with or to just [00:05:00] unload. But if you have that, the misery becomes a lot less painful to live it. And in this day and age of people having a lot of things that put there that they're happy, feels and pulls on, they're happy because it makes them feel a little inadequate and not happy. It's you you understand that. It's it's that you need to make connections with people and make a few very strong connections. And then they are always there for you in every regard. And if somebody is not a genuine, you move to make [00:05:30] a new connection.[00:05:31] And right now, at your age, mostly, I know you guys are 18, 24 and online is a perfect time to make connections, meet new people, just go up, be happy, be enthusiastic in that conversation and. A way to meet people is the third thing he mentioned was that whenever you meet somebody, you gotta expect magic. And I shared this on my Facebook of a bit ago and the court wasn't all I'd like to read it out exactly that. If you expect magic in every moment, you are [00:06:00] going to get it and absolutely, absolutely believe in that. It's like a much more, more cuter, more connection connected version of saying the glass is always half full versus half empty. It's better to say it's magic. It's really magical. If you go into every morning meeting, every discussion, anything that you meet, somebody, just expect even a spark of magic. And that even the five minute conversation, the one minute conversation will be so much better be at your driver or be it a guy that you [00:06:30] buy stuff from in store or be it anybody, be a mom, be a dad, be at your grandparents meeting anybody go there. And the moment you meet them, anybody, every moment you expect magic aspect and magic come from the connection. So you win all these three things together. If you go forward with enthusiasm, trying to want to make a connection with people.[00:06:48] That's where the magic will happen. And you've got to capitalize on that, because that's what life is. Life is just a collection of those magical moments. All your job is to be able to collect as many of those magical [00:07:00] moments as you want, and they're not. Found behind a TV screen or a laptop or an iPad screen looking at Netflix. Glad there make real connections. And I tell you not I'm not getting you. I'm a guy. I was a computer geek. And the last two months, I haven't on an average look at my laptop screen for not more than 20 minutes a day.[00:07:22] I am just making sure that I that I'm reading are actually meeting people and talking to them. And I am so lucky I've actually [00:07:30] connected and reconnected with some. Amazing individuals that will be a bring on the show. While talk to them. I'll tell you what, what the settles. And so, you know, I read I said, well, what am I missing? So last eight, six months of my life, I've actually been living like this and it's been superb. And in the last three months, I've been the happiest of my life. Just simple foot forward that every connection is absolutely beautiful and magical. Now, all [00:08:00] those things are happy and great. But why not? One thing I would add and end the conversation often is that I know another thing Adam had said he had mentioned about this bullfighter. His name was Juan Belo Monte or something like that. And he he quoted I mean, this is a life lesson to also keep in mind. And he quoted something which is he quoted. He quoted Henry Juan Bellefontaine, Belo Monte. I'm sorry, Juan Belo Monte. He [00:08:30] had said so many.[00:08:30] One of the books that no life worthy of the name consists of anything more than the continual seeds of struggles to develop one's character through whatever medium you choose to live your life by courier school. Anything.[00:08:47] So understand that life is a simply as a continuous series of internal struggles to develop your character. And that matters because the Nene then your name [00:09:00] matters. A point that has very well highlighted by a brilliant movie I saw last month or this month.[00:09:06] It was called Molly's Game and Molly's Reasoning for doing what you did not revealing names if you've seen that movie was that my name is all I have and the name is All You Have defines your character. And the character is built not by one action, by continual steps of actions that define your work and your life. It doesn't matter what work you do. It's the craft and the that you do it with [00:09:30] the care and the character you develop over time with it because that is in finite. People will always remember someone's character. And this isn't important because you seem to become a nation where that is being lacking. So you guys are the future. The most important thing you can do in life is to have a vision and an idea of what your character needs to be like or what do you want to be remembered by. And that is God to know nothing with money and [00:10:00] friends and money and send money again because that's what people defined it by. It's about you and your character. That's important. That will be keeping you. I'll keep you rich beyond money, and you cannot undervalue that. And I'm telling you this. It's character. So I hope what I've shared with you. This is not my stuff, by the way. This is just some really smart people saying some really awesome things and.[00:10:24] I'm back and.[00:10:26] I'll be definitely be talking to you guys much, much more than [00:10:30] I did. I took a long break. The next episode, I shall tell you. What was I doing with the last three months of my life? But thank you so much. If you're listening to this, you don't give up.[00:10:39] Thanks. Chow.
Dane Maxwell is a serial entrepreneur, the founder of Zannee and the CEO of The Foundation program. He has taken his businesses from mere ideas to seven figure companies within a brief period of 5 years. Success Quote “All you have to do is care” – Dane Maxwell Key Points 1. All You Have to Do is Care That's it. All you have to do is care. If you want to succeed at business, health, love, spirituality or any other facet of your life, all you have to do is care. You have to care about what you are doing more than you care about the next episode of American Idol or the next adult video you were going to watch. You have to care enough to get uncomfortable, to do the hard thing, to put in the work, to sweat, to cry and to bleed until you achieve your goal. If you want a great relationship. All you have to do is care If you want a successful, globally impactful business, all you have to do is care. If you want to live the life of your dreams and help as many people as you possibly can along the way. All you have to do is care. 2. Accept Devastation on a Daily Basis On the road to success, you will be devastated. It's all but inevitable. Part of the entrepreneurial lifestyle, and really life as a human being is accepting that at any moment you could be devastated on either a large or a small scale. If you want to lead a happy, fulfilled life, you must learn to accept this possibility and not run from it. If you live your life in constant fear of devastation and failure, you will never truly live. If you accept the inherent risk of this human existence and accept that devastation could occur at any moment, then you are free to live fully and openly. 3. With the Context of Unconditional Love There is No Concept of Worth Everyone is familiar with the concept of worth. Be it net worth, social worth or self worth, we have all heard the term and are all well versed ascribing worth to everything in our lives, especially ourselves. However, Dane suggests that we should approach this concept from a completely different angle. Unconditional love. If you love yourself unconditionally there is no concept of worth, you are loves no matter how you are. No matter how well your business does. No matter if you are successful in your relationships, no matter if you feel lost and unsure, or on fire and passionate. This idea of radical, unconditional love for both yourself and everyone in your life is the powerhouse for transformation. 4. True Power Comes from Being Vulnerable in Community We always speak of a confident man as someone who has his shit together. Someone who is unaffected by others and who feels a total independence from outcome. In the interview, Dane suggests that real power, true power, lies in authenticity and vulnerability. Real power lies in being able to look the people who are counting on you in the face and say “Guys I'm scared, I don't know what I'm doing.” When you open yourself up, when you are vulnerable and honest, you are confident. It shows that you are a man who is willing to be hurt, who is willing to be ridiculed and mocked and who is willing to admit his own weaknesses and shortcomings. True power lies in vulnerability 5. How You Treat Women is Indicative of Your Character One of the greatest indicators of a man's character is how he treats the women in his life. Men who treat women as party favors and objects to be enjoyed for a night before pissing off are likely the same in all other areas of their lives. Their interactions in business, health and spirituality are likely equally shallow and disconnected. If you want to be a great man, understand a woman's heart. Be willing to sit with her for hours while she shares her feelings without any concern for your own desires. Be willing to work at a relationship and work to connect with a woman. If you can understand the heart of a woman, you can unlock everything else in your life.

In December 2008 I joined Twitter after getting an email from Derek Sivers asking people if they were using it yet. It was going to be huge and musicians needed to start utilising it. It's funny to think that there was a time when there was no frame of reference in my head for the format and function of Twitter. I trusted Derek's authority and began exploring it. Over the years I have signed up to many social networks but find the same thing happens. I get overwhelmed and overburdened by them. This is often a problem for introverts and highly sensitive people, especially when we don't find a true reason for using tools. It's not enough to be somewhere because you've been told you should. In this episode of the podcast I talk about why online social media can be a wonderful thing for us, but only when we assume a position of control. When you own your experience and your reasons for using the technology you choose, it can be one of the most liberating and life-enhancing things. What puts us off engaging in social media? Being Misinterpreted The Fear of Share Too Much Information Feeling Stupid Being Construed as Boring Getting Unfollowed (Rejection) Being Inauthentic (Presenting a Fake Version of Yourself) What should we remember when it comes to getting involved in online social media communities? I unpack each of these 14 truths about how we can cope with the overwhelming world of the internet as introverts/HSPs: You Don't Need to Be Everywhere You Define the Schedule The Vulnerability Hangover You Can Conduct Experiments Everyone is Making Noise But It's Not How You Get Attention Your Listening and Observational Skills Pay Off You Can Tell People Something About Yourself that They Would Otherwise Never Know You Don't Need to Be Someone Else You Can Get Straight into the Conversation You Don't Have to Share it All You Have an Unfollow Button You Can Choose to See Being Unfollowed as a Positive You Can Have an Objective/Filter You Can Show The World What's Beneath the Surface Over to You Which social media network do you use most? Why? Please leave your answer in the comments below. I would love to hear from you. Patreon I have created a Patreon page for the podcast. This allows you to communicate your support for the show and encourage me to remain consistent in the creation of this content and in constantly seeking to take it to the next level. In this inaugural episode, Bill addresses the purpose of the “Unto Caesar” program by closely examining the current Tiger Woods scandal/situation. So, do we render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar or do we render unto Caesar what is God’s? And, just who is a Caesar anyway??? To find out, All You Have [...]
