A couple of weeks ago, I was in the midst of our morning routine. Wake up, get dressed, breakfast, load up, choose the morning mix for our drive to school. Most of the time it's kids' music on the way to school. After drop off, Dad does some reminiscing. I love going down the rabbit hole and finding old tunes and enjoying them again. Remember the classics Matchbox 20, Oasis, Weezer, Garth Brooks, Joe Diffie, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, AC/DC, Jimmy Hendrix, CCR…etc. On this particular day, I had re-re-re discovered Brooks and Dunn, one of my favorites, just as I hit the cul-de-sac, I imagined myself singing karaoke. However, I was sitting in the driveway singing at the top of my lungs and rocking the truck as I did so. A couple of songs in, and I looked up to find my wife doubled over in the window, hysterically laughing at me. It's easy sometimes to get caught up in the moment and lose track of what is happening outside of our periphery. This weekend, we examine Jacob's life and his marriages and how, in the midst of all his struggles, he is head down trying to make the most of it while being detached from the promises of God that are directing his life. Instead of wrestling so hard, he should have considered the larger story God was writing on his life and the generations around him. Read ahead. Take a look at Genesis 27 - 32. Pastor Matt McCarter

Episode 381: DJ CUTSO "The DNA of the Bay — From Banning Hyphy to DJ Mustard Adopting the Sound" The legendary @Cutso joins the ROAD Podcast to break down the DNA of the Bay Area scene, the evolution of turntablism, and the reality of balancing a high-level DJ career with a corporate tech job. We dive into his viral "ROAD Talk" interview from NAMM 2026 (2:55), where he addresses the entitlement of new DJs and a social media culture that causes artists to focus on the wrong metrics. Cutso reflects on the "Relationship Economy" and why you cannot get booked without being in the room, while tracing his roots back to the 90s, and the "quick mixing" style that defined the Bay (8:23). He recounts the early influence of MC Hammer and the reverence for D-Styles mixtapes, comparing them to baseball trading cards for the Hip Hop community (13:55). The conversation shifts to the rise and fall of turntablism, exploring how the genre moved from MTV back to the underground before social media re-ignited interest in technical skills (19:42), alongside the divide between Jiggy and Backpack Hip Hop. We tackle the "Great Heist" of the Bay Area sound, debating how the "Mustard Era" effectively mainstreamed a signature NorCal aesthetic (40:35), and explore the @FrandalayBay connection that brought Hyphy to Vegas while it was still banned in Bay Area clubs (24:20). Cutso shares stories of being kicked out of booths for playing "Burn Rubber" (28:26) and provides a candid look at San Jose, from the "Crypto-House" scene to the economic crisis and tech layoffs impacting local venues. After discussing Hollywood's disconnect from LA culture, and Crooked's infamous night at Club Wet (50:05), Cutso opens up about the "Dual Life" of juggling a corporate career with DJing (1:09:15), finding discipline through Kung Fu (1:19:01), and why open format DJs are built to survive shifting musical trends (1:48:24).
Are you for or against drone delivery?? BJ is beside himself this morning after being called something yesterday! Did you know that Peppa Pig has five music albums out? Turns out left handed people are smarter than the rest of us. MC Hammer is doing Geico commercials now and it's sad. Will you get a NEO robot to help out around the house?
Ah, 1990...the year of acid washed jeans, Beverly Hills 90210, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Oh, and lots of Bea Arthur. Of course, none of which we really talk about on this episode. Instead, we're focusing on the best (mostly) alternative albums to come out of that fantastic year. Returning to Third Lad-dom is power pop great Jim Basnight, a fixture on the scene since the late '70s. What has Jim been up to in the past two and a half years since his last appearance? Well, good thing you asked, because the answer is "plenty." For starters, his bands The Meice and The Moberlys were honored with tracks on the definitive Cherry Red box sets Looking For The Magic: American Power Pop in the Seventies and I Wanna Be a Teen Again: North American Power Pop of the '80s. He also released a steady stream of singles throughout 2025 that culminated in the full length album release of Under The Rock in December. As a blues devotee and expert, he's finished writing an exhaustive history of Sonny Boy Williamson, which will hopefully see a silver screen adaptation one day. All that, and he's still found the time to partake in his favorite pasttime - hanging out with O3L. Relive the fun, memories and music of this pivotal year. Plus, play along with the brand new O3L game "Ninety...or Nonsense?!?" It's the most fun you can have without telling someone to "eat my shorts, man!" Tim Conway Jr. Hour 4 (4.7) Unlike some of our listeners, Timmy C is the No. 1 fan of our fire department — and the firefighters love him back just as much. How dare you. And no hoarding TP — use a bidet instead, for the love of God. Think about it! It better not rain later this week, there’s a Dodgers game on dontcha know! Most New Yorkers don’t get to experience outside life because they’re either at home or in the subway. But when they do, they’re like ants. Could Dick Van Dyke be the happiest old man to live? And who’s McHammer? Is it Linda Lovelace or Lucy Lovelace? Let’s ask the perverts, aka our lovely, loyal listeners who have a sense of humor. Well, most of ’em. Mr Godwin can't get any rest, as his new neighbour is making too much noise,so he turns to his old friend Agony Aunt to find a solution. Will the council help before Mr Godwin is forced to seek the advice of MC Hammer? Written, performed, produced, directed and edited by Kevin Chilvers and Matt Sanders. Some sound effects sourced from www.zapsplat.com Come find us on Instagram @catnoirpodcast . Geoff the Baker has good neighbours. Just a friendly wave each morning, helps to make a better day.------------------SCENE ONE: Mr Godwin's front roomWe are in the front room of perennially annoyed Mr Godwin. There are muffled but loud construction sounds coming from next door. Mr Godwin is on the phone but we can only hear his side of the conversation. MR GODWIN: (on the phone) So it's been going on for two weeks now… yes, two weeks. (pause) Well, I'd like to know what you are going to do about it. (pause) So there's nothing you can do? Right. (pause and then incredulously) You suggest I call who? (pause) The police or the council! I haven't got time for that. I thought, as you had phoned me to try and scam me out of my life savings, that maybe we could come to some arrangement where I release the equity on my house and you, in turn, deal with my noisy neighbour. (pause) Hello! Hello! Ah… I can't hear you anyway. Construction sounds are now too loud, so he ends the calls. MR GODWIN: Right. Time for my favourite programme. Just pop the TV on. Mr Godwin turns on the TV and we hear CAT NOIR THEME MR GODWIN: Cat Noir presents… The theme and voiceover can barely be heard… there is too much construction work happening. MR GODWIN: I said, Cat Noir Presents… Home under… I best shut these windows. Mr Godwin shuts two windows. The construction sounds are still too loud. MR GODWIN: I still can't hear myself think. I'll shut the doors too. He shuts two doors and the sounds abate. MR GODWIN: That's better. Now, where was I. Oh yes. Cat Noir Presents… Home under the hammer. The sounds increase again with new equipment being used. MR GODWIN: (shouting) Written and performed by Kevin Chilvers and Matt Sanders. The sounds have stopped but Mr Godwin hasn't noticed. MR GODWIN: (Still shouting) I think I'll make some tea.SPIV: (OOV - next door) Keep it down mate. Some of us are trying to rest.MR GODWIN: Right. I've had enough of this. Two weeks this has been going on. Two weeks. He opens the lounge door and exits the home through the front door, crossing the shingle drive to his neighbours house. SCENE TWO: Doorstep - next doorAt his neighbours, Mr Godwin rings the doorbell. The door opens. SPIV: Yes. Oh hello.MR GODWIN: Oh no. Not you.SPIV: What. I've never met you before.MR GODWIN: Yes you have, loads of times. My house got invaded and we fought the intruder off together with the help of a lost boy. SPIV: (Pause) No. I think I'd remember that.MR GODWIN: You ruined my Christmas. Twice.SPIV: Did I?MR GODWIN: Hmm. What are you doing next door?SPIV: I'm your new neighbour. Hello bunk buddy.MR GODWIN: (flustered) Yes, well… what? Bunk Buddies we are not. Neighbours we are.SPIV: (in Yoda voice) Speak like Yoda, you do.MR GODWIN: I do not, no. (throws hands up) Ah. Look what you've turned me into.SPIV: A cheap star wars knock off.MR GODWIN: No. A moaning neighbour.SPIV: Well, stop moaning and go back to your own house then.MR GODWIN: I won't and I have questions.SPIV: Hit me then. I meant metaphorically, don't actually strike my face, I'm very attached to my features.MR GODWIN: Why are you making so much noise?SPIV: Easy question. I'm having something put into my loft.MR GODWIN: What?SPIV: A casino.MR GODWIN: A casino?Listen in to hear moreCat Noir is a character based, fully scored, British comedy series trapped within a podcast. Continuing with our Women's History Month, an eventual casualty of a mans brief but beautiful light. Tied on the rocket that was MC Hammer, Oaktown 3.5.7 - comprised of backup singers Sweet L.D. Pop music in 1990 was a wild experience. New queens of pop like Paula Abdul, Taylor Dayne, and Mariah Carey stood shoulder pad to bustier with 80s ladies Madonna and Janet Jackson. Hip-hop broke into the mainstream in a big way with M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice. The last gasps of hair metal still clung to the airwaves like so much AquaNet residue. Club music somehow how found its way onto Top 40 radio stations. And the totally unsubtle vocal stylings of Michael Bolton, Wilson Phillips, and others gave sad white people the confidence they needed to rock high-waisted jeans and pleated khakis. What a time to be alive! So join us as the Great Pop Culture Debate goes back to the beginning of the end of the 20th Century as we name the Best Song of 1990.Songs discussed: “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice; “There She Goes” by The La's; “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode; “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles; “Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite; “I'm Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston; “We Didn't Start the Fire” by Billy Joel; “Vogue” by Madonna; “U Can't Touch This” by MC Hammer; “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe; “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O'Connor; “Freedom ‘90” by George Michael; “Love Shack” by The B-52s; “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson; “Pump Up the Jam” by Technotronic; “Hold On” by Wilson PhillipsJoin host Eric Rezsnyak, Derek Mekita, Jim Czadzeck, and Jonny Minogue as they discuss and debate 16 of the most iconic songs from the year of the final decade of the 20th Century. For the warm-up to this episode, in which we discuss additional 1990 songs that didn't make the bracket, become a Patreon supporter of the podcast today. In support of the team's typical alphabetical foray into 90's hip-hop nostalgia, the A-Z til Infinity series will now be introducing a series of bonus episodes affording us the platform to speak more broadly on specific topics. With upcoming episodes that will see us delve into hip-hop's range of 90s music videos that saw the full range of do-it-yourself productions eventually scaling all the way up to the infamous Hype Williams era of $1million epics; we also have upcoming discussions that will find us delve deeper into a selection of our favourite hip-hop DJs and producers that painted the golden era's very canvas. Before then however, let's we're turning our attention to two of the decade's most divisive icons in MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. At the height of their respective popularity, a transition to the silver screen seemed the logical way to capitalise upon their success so we were eventually treated to MC Hammer's 'Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em' in 1990 and 'Cool as Ice' in 1991. A lengthy discussion unfolds within the team as we unpack the pair's popularity, view and discuss both films and consider whether history has been kind to each's contributions to hip-hop. https://www.4everinelectricdreams.com/ Dan, Tee-J and Imran revel in their affections for 90s hip-hop by playing the expanded version of the Alphabet Game - each episode of A-Z Til Infinity sees the trio delve into subsequent letters of the alphabet in a bid to remember, reminisce and celebrate our affections for the bygone Golden Era of hip-hop by spotlighting artists and groups that meant the most to each of us.

Helen and Gavin chat about Megadeth, Wonder Man, It Was Just an Accident, and The Secret Agent, and it's Week 33 of the list of Grammy Record of the Year Winners from 1991, which will be picked from Visions of Love by Mariah Carey, Another Day in Paradise by Phil Collins, U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer, From a Distance by Bette Midler, and Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor.
MC Hammer had a song in the late 80s, early 90s called Too Legit To Quit. Paul calls Titus his “true son in the faith.” What we don't see in English is that Paul is saying, “Titus is a legitimate born son in the faith.” Paul had established his authority and credibility in the beginning of his letter and now he is establishing Titus' authority. Paul says, “Titus has the same faith as I have. He serves the same God, Jesus is his master, and he is filled with the same Holy Spirit as me; therefore, he is a credible source and you, you Cretans who are used to being deceived, you can trust Titus.” Can people trust you?
Welcome back to When Words Fail, Music Speaks, the show where we explore how melody, rhythm, and lyric can lift us out of the darkest moments. I'm your host, James Cox, a lifelong believer in music's healing power, and today I'm thrilled to sit down with an artist whose honesty, faith, and genre‑blending spirit make every track feel like a conversation with the soul.Meet Kenneith Perrin – a true “music mutt” who began his journey at eight, first behind a drum kit and later as a vocalist in his dad's church. From early days mimicking Soul‑Train performances to head‑lining clubs, festivals, and worship services, Kenneith's story is a testament to staying curious, staying authentic, and never letting anyone box you in.In this episode we'll:Trace his musical roots – how a bassist‑dad, a church debut, and an early love for disco, funk, R&B, and later new‑wave and rock shaped his sound.Dive deep into his 2020 pandemic anthem “Erased by Mercy.” Kenneith explains the song's raw confession of repentance, the grace he found in surrender, and why it still resounds for listeners battling doubt.Talk tour life – preview his upcoming 2026 Melodic Heart & Soul tour, from the Garden Grove Fest to Fire Forge Brewery in Greenville, SC, and how he blends intimate worship with high‑energy club gigs.Unpack his musical DNA – from MC Hammer, Sister Sledge, and Missing Persons to modern gospel, country, metal, and even guilty‑pleasure pop (Backstreet Boys, Beach Boys). He shares the moments when fans—whether in a church pew or at a Whiskey A Go‑Go—have told him his songs saved them.Reflect on faith & purpose – how his Christian walk informs every lyric, and the simple yet powerful message he hopes every listener walks away with: “You're never alone; there's always a song that can lift you up.”Whether you're a struggling artist, a music lover searching for hope, or just curious about the crossroads of faith and creative expression, this conversation offers both inspiration and practical insight. Grab your coffee (or a Bones‑flavored brew), press play, and let Kenneith's story remind you why, when words fail, music always finds a way to speak.
Barry and Abigail discuss Rockin' From the Grave and sample Pumpkin Shandy from Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (in collaboration with Soergel Orchards in Wexford, Pennsylvania), Jack from Urban Artifact in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Mind Over Matter from Magnify Brewing Company in Fairfield, New Jersey. We have gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album or Abigail's personal White Album, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Both Black Magic Woman and a cover of The Devil Went Down to Georgia by Steve Ouimette appear on GHIII: LoR, but Abigail was mistaken about (Don't Fear) The Reaper's inclusion; in fact, Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll is the Blue Öyster Cult representation on GHIII: LoR, and (Don't Fear) The Reaper is actually on Rock Band, which Abigail has played, but the Hummels have never owned.Listen to our exploration of The Munsters Theme's many different iterations in last year's Halloween episode, New Belgium Halloween (New Wave Halloween & New Belgium Brewing)! Today, we also listened to the version with lyrics and briefly discussed Far Out Munsters, the episode where the Munsters rent their home to a Beatles-inspired rock group.Edgar Winter's justification of naming his song Frankenstein because of its “monster-like, lumbering beat” reminded Abigail of Flight of the Cosmic Hippo by Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.Watch the music video for Addams Groove by MC Hammer.Barry educated Abigail about the famous “More Cowbell” sketch from SNL, which centers around the studio recording of (Don't Fear) The Reaper! In looking deeper into the fun fact from Carlo's Corner about salt killing yeast, we stumbled upon this article on the history and science of Goses written by the brewmaster of Anderson Valley Brewing Company in Boonville, California, a brewery known for their Goses. Per the article, some Goses from the early 20th century had between 130 and 280 ppm of salt. Anderson Valley typically adds about 800 ppm of salt - but only after fermentation. It is thought that as little as 100-150 ppm of salt can cause osmotic stress to the yeast and therefore decrease fermentation rates, but the salt concentration required to completely inhibit fermentation or cause death for the yeast are much higher than humans would tolerate as palatable in a beverage.Santana's Black Magic Woman is a mash-up cover of Black Magic Woman by Fleetwood Mac and Gypsy Queen by Gábor Szabó. In 1981, the music world was still riding the wave of disco's afterglow while carving out the sounds that would define the decade. Rock was dominant on the charts, with bands like Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Foreigner packing arenas, while new wave acts such as The Go-Go's and Duran Duran were beginning to reshape pop with synthesizers and bright, punchy hooks. MTV hadn't launched yet—that would come in August of '81—so radio play and word of mouth still ruled how fans discovered music. It was a year where the classic rock giants coexisted with the fresh sounds of new wave, setting the stage for an explosion of styles in the 80s. Fast-forward to 1991, and the landscape looked completely different. Grunge had crashed onto the scene with Nirvana's Nevermind, turning the polished glam metal of the late 80s into yesterday's news almost overnight. Hip-hop was no longer underground—it was chart-topping, with acts like Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest pushing boundaries while mainstream rap stars like MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were everywhere. Meanwhile, pop was thriving with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Boyz II Men dominating radio. Unlike 1981, when MTV was just getting started, by 1991 music videos were the cultural centerpiece, shaping not just what people heard but what they wore and how they acted. This week, Dave and Rob will be looking at both years side by side, comparing the sounds, the trends, and the artists who defined each moment in music history. There are many essential ingredients for a successful Oktoberfest celebration, but none is more important than the beer. But which style is going to fill your massive stein: the younger, bright Festbier or the old-school, bready Märzen? We found four breweries making both styles to have a side-by-side of each to help determine our personal preference - and the only thing missing is the lederhosen. Also, we explore the world of Christian pirate shanties, consider acceptable adjuncts for Oktoberfest styles, and try not to piss off MC Hammer. Our new correspondent Blayne Alexander is back, and even though she doesn't have an official nickname yet, we are for sure proud Blayniacs! When a beloved young college student is killed, there are a surprising number of suspects: The maintenance man from her building? The guy she was flirting with whose last name is also the creepiest vehicle on the road? Her high school prom date who was obsessed with her and is inserting himself into the case? A troubled teen phrogger? Was it The Running Man (AKA Arnold Schwarzeneger or MC Hammer, or both in it together)? Or was it the ghost of an aquarium fish, out for revenge? Nothing is adding up, and this case goes cold. But there's no case too cold for queen of the pencil metaphors, prosecutor Kelly Siegler from TV's Cold Justice! It's MURDER IN MINOT! Official Description from NBCU: Beloved 18-year-old college student Anita Knutson is found stabbed to death in her apartment; the case takes nearly eighteen years and the undying commitment of friends, family and investigators to reach resolution. In this week's episode, both of our storytellers share tales of persistence and beating the odds in order to pursue their scientific dreams. Part 1: Determined to become an academic, Rajyashree Sen must take on a broken system to secure a spot in a PhD program in Vienna. Part 2: Josh Barber dreams of studying fish, but when his father goes to jail and his mother is diagnosed with breast cancer, he's left to care for his nine younger siblings. Rajyashree Sen is a neuroscientist and postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University. She holds a PhD in neuroscience and molecular biology from the University of Vienna (Austria), and a masters degree in Biotechnology from the University of Hyderabad (India). As a graduate student with Dr. Barry Dickson, Dr. Sen dissected the neuronal pathways for evasive walking in fruit-flies. Her research focused on a set of neurons, dubbed the moonwalker neurons, that constitute the key pathway for backward walking in flies. Her work has been tweeted by MC Hammer. Dr. Sen is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Dr. Richard Axel, where she investigates the neuronal basis of social memories in mice. When she is not in the lab, she does improv comedy. While science has taken her to interesting places in interesting brains, improv has taken her to the moon, hell, back and beyond. Josh is the Assistant Director of Aquatic Life at Columbia University where he oversees the well-being of various aquatic species in biomedical research. He's cohost of the Podcast "Gettin' Fishy With it" a podcast about fish in the wild, the hobby and the laboratory. His hobbies include improv comedy, ruining conversation flow with terrible puns, fishing, and fishing in his favorite videogame, World of Warcraft. Learn more about your ad choices.
