This episode explores one of the cleverest monsters on our list: the Nine-Tailed Fox of East Asian mythology! But how do you tell a kitsune from a huli jing from a gumiho? We'll try to sort it all out! The fox's reputation as a trickster is world-wide, though, so we'll also look at foxes in Aesop's Fables, medieval stories from France, and the folklore of Eastern Europe. Visit the World of Mythik website to learn more and to contribute your theories to our board! All stories told on Myths & Muses are original family-friendly adaptations of ancient myths and legends. Stories from ancient mythology can also sometimes deal with complicated topics for young listeners — to the mortal parents and caretakers reading this, we encourage listening along with your young demigods to help them navigate those topics as they explore these epic tales. Marek Turner stops by to tell tales of Gigi the Loser, as we pair another classic Italian giallo with one of the great classics of film noir. We check out Rififi (1955), directed by Jules Dassin, and The Cat O' Nine Tails (1971), directed by Dario Argento. We will be announcing a Spoiler Territory section for both films, so if you haven't seen them before you listen, you can nevertheless avoid spoilers for Rififi by skipping ahead to the 1:01:24 mark, and for The Cat O' Nine Tails by skipping ahead to 1:52:20. This week we go back to 1970 to explore Bird with the Chrystal Plumage, the seminal giallo written and directed by the maestro Dario Argento. Bird was Argento's directorial debut and was the first entry into the “Animal Trilogy” which would include his next two films The Cat o' Nine Tails and Four Flies on Gey Velvet. Intro: “Necromaniacs” – Mike Hill Outro: “Witchcult Today” – Electric Wizard
Kitsune - In Japanese folklore, kitsune are shape-shifting fox spirits that grow more powerful with age, gaining wisdom, magical abilities, and additional tails—up to nine—as they live through the centuries. Back with Part 2 of our MegaCon weekend, and this time, we've got three new guests joining the conversation! We kick things off with Invincible Season 3, where Ty and CJ go back and forth on whether Cecil was right to judge and take precautions against Mark. Then, we dive into a heated debate—who has the best time-related powers in anime? Finally, Ty drops a wild hot take on Naruto, breaking down who's really to blame for all the wars, the Akatsuki, and the Nine-Tails attack. Don't miss this one!
Our goal was to get to some more gialli this year, so we're starting off with Dario Argento's second film The Cat O' Nine Tails. This one is technically a giallo but has a lot more in common with Italian poliziotteschi than anything else, and interestingly it refrains from dealing in most of the common tropes of the sub-genre. We talk about the somewhat mundane plotting of this murder mystery, the pseudo-science of XYY chromosomes, and Argento's beginnings. We're also drinking Ommegang x Other Half's Neon Gleam double-dry hopped IPA! Approximate timeline 0:00-14:00 Intro 14:00-22:00 Beer talk 22:00-end The Cat O' Nine Tails Thanks for listening, help us out by subscribing and leaving a review! You can donate to us on our Spotify page or write to us at bloodandblackrumpodcast@gmail.com. We'll probably read it.
In honor of David Lynch, we present our first episode for one of his films. Blue Velvet is an important movie for a lot of reasons - mainly that it helps set the tone of contemporary quirky neo-noir - but also because it (probably) enlightened a lot of people on the importance of Pabst Blue Ribbon. We're celebrating with a Heineken/PBR comparison, discussion about the surreal dreaminess and male gaze in the film, and a lot more. Approximate timeline 0:00-11:00 Intro 11:00-20:00 Beer talk 20:00-end Blue Velvet Next we're going back to gialli with The Cat O' Nine Tails.
Dave and Christian talk shop, music, the Elm street sequels, and review The Cat o' Nine Tails and Four Flies on Grey Velvet, both from 1971. Intro 0:00 - 2:23:04 The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) 2:23:04 - 2:57:13 Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) 2:57:13 - 3:24:24 Thanks for Listening!

We get to the bottom of the age old question: "why do kunai even exist in Naruto?" Mifune and Hanzo spar - physically and emotionally. The NEW InoShikaCho gives a great showing. Naruto finally figures out what's going on, and makes a promise to the Nine Tails. Tenten...is present! Zetsu shows a new power. Neji is different. We get more backstory on Bee. MAD KILLERS! ANXIOUS WOMEN! TWISTED CRIMINAL PLOTS! CHIC INTERIOR DECORATING! PSYCHEDELIC FLASHBACKS! NEEDLESSLY LONG TITLES!! Giallo – plural gialli – so-named for the cover color of pulp crime novels in Italy is a stylish world of psychosis and murder that has existed in some capacity since the early 1960s, but it wasn't until Dario Argento's 1970 classic, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, became a worldwide hit that the giallo fad really took the country by storm. The following year, 1971, was arguably the biggest in the genre's history, with a total of more than 40 films, several of which would become classics. Join super-fan Gabe and relatively apathetic returning guest Patrick Ripoll of Tracks of the Damned and Uptown Song Club as they explore a total of 12 titles in a two-part series. Part one includes Sergio Martino's The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (Italian: Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh), Dario Argento's Cat O' Nine Tails (Italian: Il gatto a nove code), Lucio Fulci's Lizard in a Woman's Skin (Italian: Una lucertola con la pelle di donna), Enzo G. Castellari's Cold Eyes of Fear (Italian: Gli occhi freddi della paura), and José María Forqué's Eye of the Hurricane (Spanish: El ojo del huracán). The original plan was to do 6 per episode, but I have COVID-19 and ran out of energy. But stay tuned for a longer part two soon! 00:00 – Intro 09:45 – The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh 27:05 – Cat O' Nine Tails 44:26 – Lizard in a Woman's Skin 58:23 – Cold Eyes of Fear 1:11:24 – Eye of the Hurricane 1:28:07 – Outro If you are in a position to make the world a better place, please consider the following fundraisers: Atlanta Solidarity Fund: https://atlsolidarity.org/ Equality Florida: https://www.eqfl.org/ Donations 4 Abortions (state by state abortion funds): https://donations4abortion.com/funds-by-state

In this episode, we discuss the 4K UHD Blu-ray of CAT O' NINE TAILS (1971; dir: Dario Argento) released by Arrow Video.
“Bad luck isn't brought by broken mirrors, but by broken minds.” This is it: our mammoth exploration of the work of Italian aesthete Dario Argento. Hosts Christopher Funderburg and John Cribbs are joined by filmmaker and illustrator Patrick Horvath to explore the career of one of horror cinema's most notorious and beloved artists. They cover it all, from the brilliant beginnings of the "animal trilogy" of The Bird with Crystal Plumage, Cat O' Nine Tails and Four Flies on Grey Velvet to the some of the highest points in the history of horror cinema with Suspiria and Deep Red all the way through to the bitter end. They pair each of the films from Argento's golden era with a film from the more dispiriting later portion of the filmmaker's career in order to explore the continuity of his themes and artistic ideas. They look in-depth at the classics like Opera and Inferno while keeping their eyes open for silver linings such as his two Masters of Horror entries and his "Max von Sydow teams up with a parrot to solve mysteries" late-giallo Sleepless. It's here, the most comprehensive podcast study of one of the artists who defined the genre. In today's episode, Izzy sits down with Patrick Flegel, the brains behind a number of prolific musical projects including Women and Cindy Lee. Izzy and Pat chat about the latest Cindy Lee record Cat O' Nine Tails, their unique array of influences from Karen Carpenter to Les Rallizes Dénudés, and how being raised in a devout Christian household is reflected in their music. ✨ MORE ABOUT CINDY LEE ✨Cindy Lee is the brainchild of musician and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Flegel. Flegel first rose to acclaim as a member of the Canadian psychedelic noise rock band Women. They later went on to create sonically adventurous records under the Cindy Lee banner. Their sound frequently shapeshifts from classic '60s baroque pop to violent noise rock, with heartfelt lyrics that traverse themes of alienation, heartbreak, and gender identity. In 2020 their fourth album, What's Tonight to Eternity, was longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. ✨ KEEP UP TO DATE WITH CINDY LEE ✨Bandcamp: https://cindylee.bandcamp.comWebsite: https://www.geocities.ws/ccqsk/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0TZExq5Dma8hecEIAKwQYA?si=m-1jkc4WR92G_R9eskGrig✨ CONNECT WITH IZZY ✨YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv6SBgiYCpYbx9BOYNefkIgWebsite: https://izzyshutup.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/agrrrlstwosoundcents/Twitter: https://twitter.com/missannthropei
Thanks for checking out the Neanderthal Society Podcast. This week we're talking to Damien Rodriguez of Nine Tails Tattoo in London, England. Damien is also the guitar player of Philadelphia Hardcore legends Punishment. His story is nothing short of inspirational… Damien and I initially met back in early 2001 when he was on tour with Punishment. His kind nature, humble demeanor and positive attitude still remain deeply intact from the very first time we crossed paths over 20 years ago. It's no secret that the Bay Area has always loved Punishment and was a real pleasure to be able catch up with an old friend. Over the course of the conversation we talked about growing up in Pennsylvania, finding art, getting into music, skateboarding at Love Park, discovering Hardcore, touring with Punishment, overcoming obstacles, starting his tattoo apprenticeship, his artistic evolution and much more… Thanks for listening, enjoy the episode and remember to follow us on Instagram.

The coats are clawing their way through their second giallo film from "The Master of the Thrill" aka "The Italian Hitchcock" aka "The Father of Fear". The one and only Dario Argento and his 1971 sophomore feature: "The Cat O' Nine Tails". Capitalizing on the success of his debut feature (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), Argento quickly turned out his next film at the behest of the studios. He would go on to complete his animal trilogy with "Four Flies on Grey Velvet" in the same year. Often overshadowed by his later films, "Cat O' Nine Tails" has gained more praise in recent years as Dario's films get restored and reassessed. Will this cat have the coats giving it head scratches or will they have it neutered?Director - Dario ArgentoStarring - James Franciscus - Karl Malden - Catherine SpaakIf you like the show, stab the follow button on your podcast app and write a nice 5-star review to help us grow the show! And if you want some more conspicuous content, support the show on Patreon at: https://www.patreon.com/ConspicuousTrenchcoatsCatch the Coats on:instagram https://www.instagram.com/con.coats/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ConCoatsconcoats.buzzsprout.comGet your tickets to see your conspicuous host in the new Army of the Dead VR game at: https://armyofthedeadvr.comSpecial Thanks to:Lucas Brahme for our music https://www.lucasbrahme.comUptownStyleStudio for designing our artwork https://www.instagram.com/uptownstylestudio/Veronica Maccarihttps://www.instagram.com/iamveronicamaccari/?hl=enMichael Mackenzie (http://theses.gla.ac.uk/4730/1/2013Mackenziephd.pdf)Troy HowarthArrow VideoJ&B WhiskeyIMDBSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/ConspicuousTrenchcoats)

It is 2 Games really though, the Persistent Universe that aims to build a First Person MMO Space Sim that encompasses gameplay in ship & on ground, economy and pretty much anything else you can think of. It's built in the StarEngine (a modified Lumberyard Engine). You'll see massive Space Ships that you can fly with friends, land on planets, explore or whatever your way to whatever goal you choose. It's available to try in it's current Alpha State now, you can give feedback & influence the direction of the game BUT it is VERY ALPHA. Squadron 42 is the Single Player Campaign of Star Citizen & the Spiritual Successor of Wing Commander. The Idea is the game is immersive, cinematic, beautiful & seamless... NO LOADING SCREENS once in game. Both Games are currently in the Alpha of their development. I am suspecting to see something more mainstream for Star Citizen's PU by the end of 2022 with permanent progression, though it will be a while after that before the game is considered "feature complete" which would be closer to 2025 in my opinion. Squadron 42 will not be released before 2022. I am an Independent Content Creator & Star Citizen Fan. I am not paid by Cloud Imperium HOWEVER I am an Evocati Member and as such I am under an NDA for Closed Early Patch Tests of Star Citizen', known as the Evocati Test Flight (ETF). They occasionally offer me ships for giveaways too, which I will take if they are truely NO STRINGS ATTACHED. GameGlass, Shadow & NordVPN referrals give me a small kickback, however I am not paid by them for any specific videos or promotion. Unless Otherwise Stated. FIND YOUR WHY In this episode, we dove into the philosophical studies of the reasoning of our actions. We mentioned the importance of finding your WHY. We went into topics such as business, sports, and military and how we could become a better leader and a better person if we have a reason to our actions. For anime fans, we talked about Naruto Uzumaki and how it is his goal to become Hokage, since everybody disrespects him because of the Nine Tails within him. Hope you enjoy! Brinton Woodall and Jessie Crayton breakdown Ep 6 of the Lovecraft Country Series. Episode 6 Synopsis: "Meet Me in Daegu"- Directed by Helen Shaver, Teleplay by Misha Green and Kevin Lau In 1949 South Korea, Ji-Ah studies to be a nurse and lives with her mother who demands she picks up men to have sex with. Ji-Ah brings home a man and kills him with her tentacle-like "Nine Tails" that project out of her body. It is revealed that Ji-Ah is possessed by a kumiho, the "Nine-tailed Fox" spirit and she must kill 100 men to be human again. Her stepfather was raping her, and her mother had a shaman send the kumiho to possess her daughter to kill him. In 1950, the Korean War begins and Ji-Ah works as a nurse. To smoke out a Communist spy, the Americans arrest the nurses and Atticus executes one of the nurses. Ji-Ah's friend Young-Ja reveals herself to be the spy. Ji-Ah decides to seduce Atticus to kill him but falls in love with him instead. Ji-Ah believes she can control her "Tails", but while having sex with Atticus, her "tails" emerge and attack him. She has a vision of his future and tells him he will die if he returns to America. Atticus ends the relationship. Ji-Ah and her mother consult the shaman who tells them that many more will die. This week we continue a retrospective we call Dead Writers Writing with the 1970 film The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (Italian: L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo) is a 1970 giallo film directed by Dario Argento, in his directorial debut. The film has been credited with popularizing the Italian giallo genre.[3] It is the first installment in the Animal Trilogy, and was followed by The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) and Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1972).The film was nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe award for best motion picture in 1971. Upon its release the film was a huge box office hit, grossing 1,650,000,000 Italian lira (roughly about $1 million US), twice the production cost of $500,000. The film was also a success outside of Italy, gaining €1,366,884 admissions in Spain. This is Episode 322.Endorsements this week:Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (on Netflix)Beyond Tomorrow (1940 fantasy film)All the Colors of Giallo (documentary)The Castle of Horror Podcast Book of Great HorrorMike McPadden's book box set, which bazillion Points is selling and for which all proceeds go to the late McPadden's familyA lookout for the upcoming audiobook of Night of the Book Man read by Leigh Fryling

Fun recommendations this week, we talk about Mr. Zoo, Search, Kingdom Season 2, Ashfall and the best movie Let's Go To The Rose Motel. Our reviews this week are Record of Youth (Ep: 13-14) @ 18:15, Tale of the Nine Tailed (Ep: 5-6) @ 28:04, and new drama Start Up (Ep: 3-4) @ 42:43.Record of Youth is starting to get very dull but hopefully the finale brings us some surprises, Tale of the Nine Tails has added Harry Potter into the list of things they copy, but the most important thing we learned this week is that Math Boy's got them big hands which has earned him the nick name Nam San Mountain... Next week the Pocha Crew will continue reviewing Start Up (5-6), Tale of the Nine Tailed (7-8), and Record of Youth (15-16). The nights are drawing in and thoughts turn to horror as Halloween fast approaches. This episode of Cine-Lit looks at the work of the Italian maestro of horror Dario Argento. From his early films - including his Animal Trilogy (Bird With The Crystal Plumage, Cat O' Nine Tails, Four Flies On Grey Velvet) which established the key characteristic of the giallo subgenre - to his Three Mothers films (Suspiria, Inferno and The Mother Of Tears) and everything inbetween. An auteur of horror, an incredible influence on cinema, Dario will go down in history as one of the key figures in horror cinema. Adam and Darrell are joined by John Martin, co-founder of the influential British fanzine Samhain before editing and publishing his own Giallo Pages, devoted to spaghetti exploitation cinema. He is also the author of The Seduction of the Gullible: The Curious History of the British "Video Nasties" Phenomenon and remains the longest serving contributor to The Dark Side, the world's longest running and bestselling horror film magazine.Check out the Cine-Lit website for additional content and further reading: https://cinelitpodcast.wordpress.comProduced and edited by Steve Woodward at PodcastingEditor.com. Episodes discussed: 241 & 242 The thing about doing filler episodes is there is some...let's go with groin-oriented humor. See? This is what happens when y'all convince us to stray away from the canon episodes. Oh, and we start a new arc where Naruto is probably going to learn how to control the Nine-Tails. No biggie. It's NARUSHOW!

Halloween and heritage, ancestors and the thinning of the veil between worlds- Rev. Raj Rambob (From episode #113) joins Jeff and Allen to talk about all this and more in Irenicast’s fourth Halloween special. In past Halloween episodes, they have discussed the supernatural, the devil and witches. This year they reflect on the holiday itself. They reflect on the larger historical development of the day and how it specifically changed for them in moving away from fundamentalist contexts. The discussion takes them from childhood memories, how Halloween was approached in each of their fundamentalist spiritual development to what significance the holiday brings them today. Intertwined throughout the whole conversation is a concentration on heritage and ancestry. Raj brings a particularly unique perspective to the conversation due to his Seventh Day Adventist background and Indian heritage. We’ve known for some time that Jeff comes from a Pentecostal background and Allen a more Baptist-like setting, so Raj’s background is a welcome perspective in this conversation and the overall conversation Irenciast has been bringing for the last 4 years. This episode ends with a Horror Movie Edition of Judging a Book by Its Cover. Each host brings to the table two different horror movie titles that the other hosts have to guess the plot synopsis of. Somehow, Jim and James manage to get sidetracked before the discussion on Argento even begins, but the two eventually do get around to talking about the legendary giallo filmmaker. The two discuss what typifies giallo, how Argento stands apart from Italian compatriots Lucio Fulci and Mario Bava, and how - if at all - viscera for the sake of viscera can be considered art. Also there are tangets. Lots of tangents. And recommendations too!: The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971), Phenomena (1985), and Opera (1987). You read that right - no Suspiria.

The Real Housewives of New York City are speed dating and we are impressed by Ramona Singer's flirting game. Across the pond, The Real Housewives of Potomac are spilling dirty secrets about dirty thoughts, and we're getting to the bottom of who is Erika Liles. Then, we're talking to some of The Real Housewives of Potomac. Gizelle Bryant gives us a dispatch straight from the reunion; Robyn Dixon reveals what was going through her mind during that umbrella moment with Monique Samuels; and Candiace Dillard gives updates on her relationship with Charrisse Jackson Jordan. Join your host Duncan Under The Stairs discussing all things Horror on The Podcast Under the Stairs. Summer has arrived at last Under the Stairs which means our 4th annual Top 10 series of shows has come to take you through those uncomfortably humid days with a heart does of horror!! I am not one to be accused of short changing listeners or setting easy goals either which makes this years Top 10 series very special indeed!! Over the next 11 episodes in the series we will count down each year in the decade known as the 70's with the mission statement of creating the definitive Top 10 list of movies in the decade, but with a little TPUTS twist if you will. Noah's Ark rules will mean that each year will be represented in the creation of the list and will force myself and my guest to short list each year in the decade from 10 movies to 2!! That's right...only 2 movies from each year can go through which means that this list can/might & will be unlike any Top 10 list of 70's horror movies created on a podcast!! On this show my guest Bo Ransdell and myself will look at 10 movies from 1971 with mini reviews of Bay of Blood, The Abominable Dr. Phibes, The Devils, Willard, Daughters of Darkness, Short Night of the Glass Doll, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, The House the Dripped Blood, Twins of Evil & Cat o Nine Tails. Intro – 0 - 3mins 45secs Top 10 1971 - 5mins 10secs - 2hrs 14mins (Short Night of the Glass Dolls SPOILERS - 1hrs 53mins 40secs - 2hrs 20secs) Intermission - Bury Me Where I Fall - 36 Crazyfists - 2hrs 14mins 40secs - 2hrs 18mins 5secs Decision Time - 2hrs 18mins 5secs - 2hrs 38mins 20secs Closing Out the Show- 2hrs 38mins 20secs - End Closing Song - Sugars of Someday - American Head Charge The 2 movies picked as going forward to the final roundtable representing the year 1971 are The Devils & Daughters of Darkness. Join me next week with special guest Doug Tilley to look at 1972 and the following movies: Don't Torture a Duckling Last House on the Left Deliverence Frenzy Asylum Horror Express Lisa and the Devil Dr Phibes Rises Again Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key The Blood Spattered Bride (aka Till Death Do Us Part) Our new A3 Baz v Horror Posters are available to purchase!!
