Since winning the Women of the Year, Window on the World Award in 2007 in recognition of her unwavering campaigning for the rights of victims of forced marriage, domestic violence and honour killings, Jasvinder has been awarded a CBE and was made a Dame in the King's Birthday Honours list this year. It's all a far cry from her strict upbringing and arranged marriage to a stranger in India which she was informed about at the age of 14. Running away from home, she lost everything she'd ever known and faced many challenges as well as heartbreaking tragedy, all of which only cemented her determination to help others facing the same injustices and cruelty. Jasvinder describes what life was like growing up in her fiercely traditional Indian family and the traumatic, and still deeply felt, ramifications of choosing to run away rather than face a forced marriage like her sisters. She shares the roots of her campaigning work and reveals how long it took for her message and mission to gain any traction, and why she had to check under her car every morning before doing the school run with her children.

Working as a young nurse in a remote feeding station in famine-torn Ethiopia, and facing the impossible daily decision of which of the thousands of starving children to save, Claire, the winner of the 2005 Women of the Year Window on the World Award, never imagined the impact the interview she gave to BBC reporter Michael Buerk would have. Becoming the trigger for the iconic Band Aid single Feed the World and the Live Aid concert that followed it, may have radically improved the appalling suffering of the Ethiopians Claire was caring for, but it had less welcome ramifications for the young nurse when she returned to the UK. Claire, who was made a Dame in 2010 for services to nursing and international humanitarian aid, talks about memories of her time in Ethiopia and why she couldn't wait to get rid of “the annoying bloke from the BBC”; what she did afterwards to process her experiences in the country; why she returned there 20 years later and reveals how receiving our 2005 Window on the World Award prompted her to reflect on her work and how others perceived it.

There is a bit of hesitation because I am finding that what is thought to be paranormal is actually normal. There is no such thing as para, or above the normal.I started out hunting ghosts. I wanted to know if there really is an afterlife. After many adventures in old prisons and dark, creepy places, I have learned that locations reported to be haunted usually are. We, as a species, have believed in life after life since the first human thought, so to continue as a ghost or spirit is natural, it is part of the human experience. The fact that Science doesn't recognize this is irrelevant.Having found possible Sasquatch evidence, namely trees driven into the ground upside down thought to be territory markers, while on a ghost hunt led me to investigate this creature in my native Ohio. After several years and many forays into Bigfoot territory, I have found incredible evidence which inspired this book. This creature is alive, flesh and blood, and has fantastic abilities. A mythical creature doesn't leave strange structures, foot prints, hand prints, and I don't believe a fictional non entity has ever growled at anyone. Here again, the fact that Science doesn't recognize this beast is irrelevant, I know better. The journey is not over. I have learned so much about this animal, but I have only scratched the surface. There are so many questions that remain unanswered. I can tell those who will listen that this creature exists, but they need to look for themselves. The evidence is there for all to see, but they need to know what to look for. I hope my experiences have informed and inspired those who have answered the call to seek this elusive creature. The truth is out there.

Craig Buster is GM of Wild Island in Sparks, NV. Craig started as a go kart attendant and quickly realized that he had something unique to offer. Three decades later he is the GM who works at building a great culture and an amazing facility that both his employees and guests can be proud of. In this interview, Craig discusses ownership culture, learning from failure, and celebrating the wins. Ownership Culture “I love to develop people. I probably fail more than I succeed .” Craig talks a lot about culture and how it not only starts at the top, but that it is driven by what's in the heart. Talk to people as human beings and provide them them the tools and guidance they need to be successful. Being part of the decision-making process is what helps build the culture of ownership according to Craig. He allows his team to give input and debate the pros and cons of the facility's next move. They then get to see how their decisions play out as they are implemented. Craig admits sometimes the suggestions work out, sometimes they don't, but in every instance, the team learns. Learning from failure “When opening a restaurant, that first night you've got to nail and if you don't, you're done.” The ownership at Wild Island allows Craig and his team to make and own many of the decisions that drive the park forward. When asked about his favorite failures, he points to a few decisions that cost the company significant money, but also taught them some valuable lessons. As they looked to expand, they thought that adding a high-end restaurant would be a great addition to their offerings. Ultimately that failed for many reasons, but the lesson that came out of it was to more closely appeal to your demographic, do what you know and listen to your community for what they want. The restaurant space eventually turned into black-light mini golf and is still a popular attraction to this day. Celebrating the wins “You've got to celebrate those wins…you need to stand up and clap, jump up on a table, whatever you need to do.” Craig reveals that previously the team wasn't very good at celebrating wins. They would have a record week, check it off, then move on to the next week. They decided to be a little less humble about their accomplishments and start applying for some industry awards and celebrating the day-to-day wins with their teams. In 2019, Wild Island earned AAMA's Top FEC Award and have been finalists for IAAPA's Top FEC of the World Award. Craig acknowledges that it's a tough industry but it can be very rewarding. “We're creating experiences, and if that doesn't get you excited, it might be time to find another industry.” To learn more about Wild Island, visit: https://wildisland.com/ To contact Craig: CBuster@wildisland.com The annual IAAPA FEC Summit is back!
