The Spark Three: Stephanie Barron Hall on Chemistry, Performance, and the Search for Self

What happens when a Three stops performing and starts telling the truth — even to herself? Anthony and I sat down with Steph Baron Hall, author of Enneagram in Real Life and host of the Enneagram in Real Life podcast, for a conversation that starts with instinctual stacking and ends up somewhere much deeper. Steph — a sexual (or "spark") dominant Three — unpacks how the sexual instinct differs from the social Three most people picture, why she was so often mistaken for a Four, and how she's learned to notice the exact moment she starts performing instead of being present. We move through the difference between achieving your identity and receiving it, the religious trauma that shaped Steph's relationship to spirituality, and why she's going back to school in her late thirties to become a therapist. Along the way, I offer a memorable image for the false self — the "pinched self" — and the three of us talk honestly about what it actually costs to tell yourself the truth, not just other people. Steph is the author of Enneagram in Real Life, available wherever books are sold. Find her at ninetypes.co and on her own podcast, Enneagram in Real Life.   ABOUT STEPHANIE BARRON HALL Stephanie Barron Hall (M.A. Organizational Communication & Leadership) is an Accredited Enneagram Practitioner, author of The Enneagram in Love (2020) and Enneagram in Real Life (2025), creator of @NineTypesCo, and host of the Enneagram in Real Life podcast. Stephanie has been facilitating personality-centric team development for years as an outside consultant for organizations ranging from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies. The Philadelphia Eagles have now solidified their 53-man roster heading into the 2026-2027 NFL season. Now what? Which units are strong and which might be considered weak? O.J. Spivey from The Philadelphia Tribune joined the show this week to help break down various units and what we should expect from this team out of the gate. But first, Jeff and Len got into how the Phillies dominated August and what they'll need to do to continue this positive momentum moving forward. (Approx. 2:50)From there, they discussed how the Sixers have signed some players to Exhibit 10 contracts for training camp. Might any of them make the team?(Approx. 13:45)The guys then talked briefly about Lionel Messi retiring from international soccer and what it means for the sport. (Approx. 19:10)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great discussion with O.J. Spivey from The Philadelphia Tribune about the Eagles final 53-man roster and what to expect from various units on offense and defense. The rationale of keeping 4 quarterbacks on the roster. Chemistry between Jalen Hurts and a newer wide receiver room. Why keep 4 tight ends? Thoughts on the safety position and how it may look this season. All of this and much more this week on the Table! Highlights A lightning round of some big fall releases that are NOT their personal Preview picks. Catherine came in determined to have "no chunksters" this fall … only to discover that 2 of her picks are actually over 500 pages. Catherine's theme for fall is "intrigue" — the verb, not the noun — with picks she can't wait to see unfold. Sarah's list includes one actual chunkster, several books that fit into her recent Micro Genres, and 3 debuts. Stick around to the end to hear their #1 picks for fall! This episode of Hustle Inspires Hustle features Alex Quin and Gina Ulmos, media personality, journalist, podcast host, and author of Mis 200 Citas. Gina reflects on her decades-long career across television, Univision, and radio, and how an unexpected career transition gave her the opportunity to reinvent herself as an author. She shares how nearly 200 real dating experiences after a 16-year marriage, combined with lessons from therapists, psychologists, love coaches, and her own interviews, ultimately inspired her book.Alex and Gina dive into modern dating, Bumble, first-date expectations, red flags, personal safety, scams, self-worth, and how social media has changed the way relationships begin. They also discuss Gina's experiences interviewing major figures like Cristiano Ronaldo, how her journalism background helps her read and vet people, and why cultural compatibility and life experience matter in relationships. Ultimately, the conversation goes beyond dating to explore reinvention, embracing uncomfortable change, and why it's never too late to start a new chapter in your career or personal life.Episode Outline:[00:00] Meet Gina Ulmos and the story behind Mis 200 Citas[04:25] Leaving radio and turning life experiences into a book[09:00] 200 dates, Bumble, rejection, and finding love online[13:30] First-date expectations, money, boundaries, and red flags[18:20] Dating safety and protecting yourself when meeting strangers[23:30] How Alex met his wife and Instagram vs. dating apps[28:25] Self-worth, childhood patterns, and choosing better partners[35:05] Interviewing Cristiano Ronaldo and using journalism skills in dating[39:00] Vetting dates, background checks, scams, and trusting your instincts[41:05] Cultural compatibility, travel, relationships, and Mexico[46:05] Career reinvention, losing your safety net, and embracing change[49:00] Why it's never too late to find love[50:52] Closing thoughts and outroWisdom Nuggets:Don't Ignore the Red Flags Because You Like the Person: Attraction can make people justify behavior they would immediately recognize as problematic in someone else. Pay attention to inconsistencies, pressure, dishonesty, and actions that don't match someone's words.Treat Dating Like an Interview: Gina learned from a love coach to think about dating similarly to filling an important position. Would you keep interviewing someone who consistently shows up late, lies, acts inconsistently, or doesn't share your values? Chemistry shouldn't eliminate standards.Self-Worth Changes Who You Choose: The relationships we pursue can reflect how we see ourselves. Understanding childhood experiences, emotional patterns, boundaries, and what you're actually searching for can help prevent repeating the same relationships with different people.Losing Your Safety Net Can Create Your Next Chapter: Leaving a stable media career was uncomfortable for Gina, but it also created the time and urgency that helped her finally write her book. Sometimes the change you didn't ask for becomes the push you needed. You Either Win or You Learn: Not every relationship, career move, or chapter will work out the way you expected. That doesn't automatically make it wasted time. Experiences can become lessons that prepare you to make better decisions moving forward. It's Never Too Late to Find Love: Gina's own family gives her a unique perspective on modern dating across generations. Her mother encouraged her to date, Gina found her favorite person through Bumble, and her daughter also found a relationship through the platform.Power Quotes“You're not gonna land a good job, a good relationship if you don't have self-worth.” - Alex Quin“Changes are good. Harry Jowsey says he's ready for a wife, but Episode 2 of Let's Marry Harry has me wondering whether he's actually choosing differently or already falling back into the same dating patterns. This week, the kissing officially begins, and so do the questions. I'm breaking down Harry's growing connection with Dannelle, why Amber has him so intrigued, the Faith “braggadocious” controversy, and whether Harry was justified in sending Faith home simply because she talked about their kiss.We also need to talk about that VERY suggestive scene between Harry and Dannelle and what they've since said actually happened. But the bigger conversation this week is chemistry vs. compatibility. Harry clearly knows how to create physical chemistry, but can he recognize the kind of woman he could actually build a healthy marriage with?Plus, I'm revealing my current frontrunners, my Girl, Run Moment of the Week, the one thing I actually agree with Harry about, and Harry's updated Husband Material Score.Because Harry may want a wife, but the real question remains:Does he actually know how to be a husband?Spoilers for Episode 2 ahead.

Television icon Linda Gray kicks off a new season joining Patrick Evans and Randy Florence in the corner booth at Skip Paige's Little Bar for a candid, funny and revealing conversation about a career built on persistence, curiosity and refusing to accept other people's limitations. Gray recalls her early modeling days, the famous legs behind The Graduate poster, hundreds of commercials and the nerve-racking leap into dramatic acting. What if the person you cannot get over was never actually your person? We tend to give enormous weight to chemistry and connection, especially when we find someone we like who seems to like us back. That feeling can be powerful enough to make us overlook a harder truth: connection alone does not create a relationship. Without commitment and compatibility, chemistry can keep you emotionally invested in someone who is never actually choosing you. Matthew Hussey breaks down the four levels of a relationship, from attraction to compatibility, and explains why so many people get stuck at the stage that feels the most exciting. He also explores why unfinished relationships can become so difficult to let go of. The future you imagined can start to feel more real than the relationship itself, keeping you attached to potential instead of what is actually happening. Matthew Hussey is a relationship coach, bestselling author, speaker, and host of the Love Life podcast. His work focuses on dating, heartbreak, confidence, communication, and helping people build healthier relationships by paying attention to how someone actually shows up, rather than relying on chemistry or potential alone. What's Discussed: (00:00) Why connection and chemistry can feel incredibly important without actually creating a relationship. (01:27) The four levels of a relationship: admiration, mutual attraction, commitment, and compatibility. (03:46) Why someone choosing not to be with you cannot be "your person." (05:07) How heartbreak can come from grieving the future you imagined rather than losing an actual soulmate. (07:58) Why unfinished relationships and "what could have been" can occupy so much mental space. (09:20) How romantic fantasy can become a form of avoidance that keeps you from participating in your real life. (12:37) Why real relationships are built through commitment, difficulty, and repeatedly choosing one another. (13:47) How to intentionally move on by removing reminders, limiting updates, and stopping the person from remaining part of your everyday life.   Thank You to Our Sponsors! Have you ever wondered why you can feel so much chemistry with someone who's inconsistent, unavailable, or clearly wrong for you... yet struggle to feel the same spark with someone who actually treats you well? You may genuinely want a healthy, stable relationship. But when you've become accustomed to the emotional highs and lows of unpredictable relationships, healthy attention can feel strangely unfamiliar—and sometimes even boring. So does that mean you have to choose between chemistry and a healthy relationship? Absolutely not.In this episode, I'll show you three ways to build real attraction with the right person, including:Why emotionally unavailable people can feel so addictiveHow unpredictability can get mistaken for chemistryWhy someone being consistent doesn't mean the relationship has to lack excitementThree ways to create attraction without relying on games, anxiety, or emotional highs and lowsThe good news is, you don't have to choose between feeling a spark and being with someone who treats you well. You can have both. And once you learn to feel attraction without needing the emotional roller coaster, it can completely change who you choose next.---►► Break the Patterns That Keep Leading You to the Wrong People → MHRetreat.com Hosted on Acast. She believes intimacy includes both emotional and physical closeness, and that sex should be understood broadly as a form of physical connection shaped as much by the mind as by the body. Your active ingredient is the nucleic acid. So why does a proteolipid vehicle filing include viral clearance studies, stability data and full characterisation of a membrane protein that is not the drug? Because that protein sits on the particle surface, and a component nobody has filed before is the agency's problem regardless of what you call it.Proteolipid vehicles (PLVs), the platform Jitendra Kumar works on as Lead Scientist for Chemistry and Process Development at Entos Pharmaceuticals, represent a novel frontier in drug delivery, Instead of being taken up into an endosome and having to escape it, a PLV fuses with the cell membrane and releases cargo straight into the cytosol. That opens targets and patient groups that liver-tropic lipid nanoparticles and viral vectors have struggled to reach, and it leaves Kumar building a regulatory file with nothing on the shelf to copy.Highlights from the episode:Strategies for communicating novel technology with regulatory agencies and ensuring robust science-driven submissions (02:34)What differentiates the analytical characterization of PLVs compared to standard recombinant proteins or antibodies (04:03)The development plan and regulatory pathway towards clinical and commercial approval for their lead leptin therapy (05:35)The evolving role of advanced techniques—such as cryo-EM—in supporting regulatory filings and product understanding (06:56)Jitendra Kumar's career journey: from agricultural research in India to protein science and neurodegeneration, and how these experiences inform current PLV technology development (09:00)Challenges of early diagnostics and product development in neurodegenerative diseases (14:29)Decision-making differences and focus in academic versus industry biotech research (15:32)Practical advice on the importance of honest technology assessment, building networks, and understanding both strengths and weaknesses (16:16)Smart insight: A persistent challenge for groundbreaking delivery systems is the lack of established regulatory playbooks. Jitendra Kumar laid out a science-first approach: let data do the talking, supported by rigorous GLP toxicology studies and transparent communication with agencies. Regulatory bodies like Health Canada are receptive to innovation, provided that sponsors demonstrate safety, efficacy, and scientific rationale for any deviation from standard criteria. If this conversation got you thinking about how novel delivery vehicles reach the cell — and what it takes to carry one from bench through CMC, scale-up, and regulatory review — these four episodes go deeper:Episodes 125 - 126: How to Enhance Cell Engineering Using Mechanical Intracellular Delivery with Armon ShareiEpisodes 231 - 232: From IND to BLA: The Biologics CMC Decisions That Determine Regulatory Success with Henri KornmannEpisodes 89 - 90: Scale-Up Secrets: Cracking the Code of AAV Production with Ahmed YoussefEpisodes 71 - 72: Effective Outsourcing: How Small Biotech Companies Can Thrive with Mark MelvilleConnect with Jitendra Kumar:LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jkumar2Email: jitendra.kumar@entospharma.comWebsite: www.entospharma.comFree 5-day email course, The CMC Failure Chain: the five recurring CMC mistakes that put your promising program at risk → Get it hereSupport the show

Artificial intelligence is accelerating the transformation of the finance function in ways that go beyond automation of existing processes. Gartner senior director Mallory Bulman explains how finance teams can help organizations move faster, make better decisions, and prepare for 2030 and beyond. The conversation explores digital talent, enterprise simulations, product management techniques, and what Bulman heard from attendees at the Future of Finance Summit about contending with volatility and deciding whether to be "AI-forward" or "AI-cautious." What you'll learn from this episode: The number of CFOs that Bulman speaks with each week, and the universal truths she hears in those calls. What an OODA loop is and why, in Bulman's words, the "observe" part of that acronym will be getting shorter. A key theme of a Gartner finance presentation and its tie-in with one of Bulman's sons' science classes. How a product management mindset and self-service tools can help finance teams effectively deliver decision-ready information. Bulman's takeaways from the Future of Finance Summit earlier in August.

From there, the conversation dives into how men and women fundamentally misinterpret each other's behavior: why a man asking "where do you want to go?" on a date is an act of generosity (not indecision), why touching an upset man can feel physically painful to him due to adrenaline, and why men "ignoring" their partners is often testosterone-driven focus, not disregard.Timestamps:00:00 — Intro: Meet Allison Armstrong, 35 Years Studying Men02:30 — The Question That Started It All: "What If Men Are Responding to Women?"05:00 — The Frog Farmer Story: Turning Princes Into Frogs08:00 — Why "I'm Not Ready to Get Married" Isn't Personal (But Not Marrying You Is)10:30 — The "I'm Sorry I Hurt Your Feelings" Reframe13:00 — Why Men Calculate "Is This Worth It?" Gene therapy only works if the cargo reaches the right cells intact. Adeno-associated viruses (AAV) and lipid nanoparticles have carried the field this far, but both share a constraint: the particle is taken up into an endosome, and the payload has to escape that compartment before it is degraded. Endosomal escape is where a large share of the dose is lost, and it is why delivery, not the genetic construct, is usually the thing that limits the therapy. Lipid nanoparticles carry a second constraint, since they tend to accumulate in the liver, which narrows the diseases they can reach. What if the particle never entered that way at all?Jitendra Kumar, Lead Scientist for Chemistry and Process Development at Entos Pharmaceuticals, works on a platform that fuses directly with the cell membrane and releases its cargo straight into the cytosol. He came to nanoparticle design the long way, through fifteen years of structural biology on the prion protein in Frankfurt and Edmonton, which is why he thinks about particle size, packaging and diffusion the way he does.Key topics discussed:Jitendra's career background in structural biology and journey to Entos Pharmaceuticals (03:18)The scientific motivation and challenges of working with prion proteins and breaking down complex diseases (04:55)Genetic medicine approaches: gain-of-function vs. loss-of-function, and the role of siRNA, ASOs, and gene delivery (06:27)The FAST protein platform: origins, function, and advantages for drug delivery (07:56)Manufacturing differences compared to LNPs, including the introduction of recombinant membrane protein production and related CMC complexity (09:55)Scale-up and production challenges for membrane proteins, and strategies for clinical supply (11:21)Clinical development progress: Phase 1/2 studies with the platform, especially for COVID vaccine delivery (12:23)Focus areas for the technology, including selective lung delivery and leptin therapy for lipodystrophy (13:12)Lessons for small biotech companies in phase 1/2 manufacturing strategy, technology transfer, and the value of an experienced network (14:31)Balancing process robustness with speed in new biotech ventures (16:02)The importance of identifying “pause steps” and must-have vs. nice-to-have features in early manufacturing processes (17:15)Smart insight: Jitendra's takeaway for startups: for early phases, find a partner who genuinely understands your tech and can move at your pace rather than defaulting to a big CDMO, treat your network as infrastructure, and build the ability to run production in-house. The one thing that's never up for negotiation is process robustness. The real question isn't robustness vs. speed, but how many checkpoints and safe pause points you build in so you can have both.If this conversation got you thinking about how novel delivery vehicles reach the cell — and what it takes to carry one from bench through CMC, scale-up, and regulatory review — these four episodes go deeper:Episodes 125 - 126: How to Enhance Cell Engineering Using Mechanical Intracellular Delivery with Armon ShareiEpisodes 231 - 232: From IND to BLA: The Biologics CMC Decisions That Determine Regulatory Success with Henri KornmannEpisodes 89 - 90: Scale-Up Secrets: Cracking the Code of AAV Production with Ahmed YoussefEpisodes 71 - 72: Effective Outsourcing: How Small Biotech Companies Can Thrive with Mark MelvilleConnect with Jitendra Kumar:LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jkumar2Email: jitendra.kumar@entospharma.comWebsite: www.entospharma.comFree 5-day email course, The CMC Failure Chain: the five recurring CMC mistakes that put your promising program at risk → Get it hereSupport the show

At Spirit Fest in Virginia Beach, Will and Karen "sit down" with Doron Shalev, a chemistry professor, crystallographer, and self-described skeptic who found his way into energy healing through an unlikely source: a stack of pandemic reading that started with crystal science and ended with a Reiki master teacher certification. Doron makes the scientific case for "woo," walking through the statistical thresholds researchers use to validate findings like the Higgs boson, and why many energy-healing studies actually clear a higher bar of statistical significance than science is willing to credit. The conversation turns personal when Doron describes healing his own arthritis through distance Reiki, a technique he says works better on himself than hands-on healing ever did. He also shares his shift from traditional Reiki symbols to Kabbalistic healing, using one of the 72 names of God in place of the Cho Ku Rei symbol, and describes how he reads chakra energy to figure out whether what he's sensing is emotional or physical. It's a rare conversation between a scientist and two skeptics-turned-believers, all circling the same question: what happens when the data starts pointing somewhere science hasn't caught up to yet. Guest: Doron ShalevFind him: https://doronshalev.com and at https://modernmysticproject.podia.comNew Reality TV is where this conversation lives alongside hundreds more just like it. Welcome, gorgeous souls, to Episode 445 of Aligned Abundance! ✨This week, I'm joined by psychotherapist and sexologist Jenn Pinkerton for a powerful conversation about love, attraction and the relationship patterns we can find ourselves repeating without even realising it.Jenn shares why our nervous system can sometimes mistake inconsistency, uncertainty and emotional unavailability for chemistry, and what may actually be happening when we feel intensely drawn to someone who isn't able to meet us emotionally. We explore why healthy, emotionally safe love can sometimes feel "boring" when we're used to chaos, how to tell the difference between genuine chemistry and nervous system activation, and the subtle ways our attachment wounds can influence who we choose and how we show up in relationships. Here's what you'll discover in this week's episode:Why inconsistency and emotional unavailability can sometimes feel like chemistryHow to tell the difference between genuine attraction and nervous system activationWhy emotional safety can feel "boring" when you're used to chaos or unpredictabilityHow to begin breaking survival-based relationship patterns and create healthier, more secure connectionsThis episode is such an important reminder that intensity doesn't always equal intimacy, and chemistry doesn't always mean compatibility. When we begin to understand the patterns our nervous system has learned to associate with love, we can stop confusing uncertainty with attraction, recognise where we may be abandoning ourselves to maintain connection and start creating relationships rooted in emotional safety, authenticity and genuine connection.Don't forget to share your biggest takeaways with me on Instagram @iamemmamumfordVisit Jenn's website: https://jennpinkerton.com/-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Explore More Ways to Manifest Your Dream Life...
