The legendary Labyrinth of Hawara was brought to the attention of the Western world by Herodotus in the fifth century BC. He describes an above-ground structure that he saw, and one below-ground that he was denied access to by the Egyptians. Moreover, they decided to preserve the memory of their names by a common memorial, and so they made a labyrinth a little way beyond lake Moeris and near the place called the City of Crocodiles. I have seen it myself, and indeed words cannot describe it; if one were to collect the walls and evidence of other efforts of the Greeks, the sum would not amount to the labor and cost of this labyrinth. And yet the temple at Ephesus and the one on Samos are noteworthy. Though the pyramids beggar description and each one of them is a match for many great monuments built by Greeks, this maze surpasses even the pyramids. It has twelve roofed courts with doors facing each other: six face north and six south, in two continuous lines, all within one outer wall. There are also double sets of chambers, three thousand altogether, fifteen hundred above and the same number under ground. We ourselves viewed those that are above ground, and speak of what we have seen, but we learned through conversation about the underground chambers; the Egyptian caretakers would by no means show them, as they were, they said, the burial vaults of the kings who first built this labyrinth, and of the sacred crocodiles. Thus we can only speak from hearsay of the lower chambers; the upper we saw for ourselves, and they are creations greater than human. The exits of the chambers and the mazy passages hither and thither through the courts were an unending marvel to us as we passed from court to apartment and from apartment to colonnade, from colonnades again to more chambers and then into yet more courts. Over all this is a roof, made of stone like the walls, and the walls are covered with cut figures, and every court is set around with pillars of white stone very precisely fitted together. Near the corner where the labyrinth ends stands a pyramid two hundred and forty feet high, on which great figures are cut. A passage to this has been made underground.Mark Carlotto is an aerospace engineer with over thirty years of experience in satellite imaging, remote sensing, image processing, and pattern recognition. 237 trailer Y: Quellen no Deutschland,Neuere und Neueste Geschichte,Ägyptologie,Quelle,19. Two weeks ago, yet another Palestinian horrific terror attack took place in the Palestinian village of Hawara, just next to Jerusalem. The terror attack claimed the lives of two innocent Jews - Shay Silas Nigrekar and his son Aviad. Shay, a loving husband and father, embarked with his son Aviad on what seemed like a routine day, never suspecting the grim fate that awaited him. As they pulled into the car wash that day, they were brutally shot and murdered by a Palestinian terrorist. Today, we are joined by Lital Shemesh. Lital was meant to be on the podcast two weeks ago but had to postpone due to the tragic loss of her relatives, Shay and Aviad, in the Hawara attack. Lital is not only an accomplished journalist and TV presenter but also a prominent right-wing news personality. She has a wealth of insight to share, ranging from her experience at Channel 14 - Israel's only conservative TV channel - to her perspectives on the proposed reforms in the communications market by Communications Minister Shlomo Karai. Together, we'll explore the aftermath of the horrific attack in Hawara and dive into the broader landscape of Israel's ever-evolving social and political dynamics. We're honored to have Lital Shemesh with us today on the Two Nice Jewish Boys podcast.

As settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank continues to intensify, Haaretz West Bank correspondent Hagar Shezaf joins host Allison Kaplan Sommer to share her experiences covering the deadly incidents in Hawara, Turmus Aya, Um Safr, and, over the past weekend, the clashes in the village of Burqa that resulted in the killing of 19-year-old Qosai Jammal Mi'tan. Two settlers are suspected in the shooting. Friction between settlers living in the outposts that ring and encroach on Palestinian villages is nothing new, Shezaf explains, but their level of violence has been on the rise since the ascendance of the Netanyahu government, whom she says seem to be emboldening the perpetrators.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Mizrahi Democratic Rainbow was founded in March 1996 by 40 women and men. In December 1996, following a series of discussions, the movement was formally established by 100 members, who constituted the Constituent Assembly. Since then, this body has expanded and it functions as the council of the movement, in which the fundamental decisions binding the movement are made. At the founding conference, the secretariat of the movement, which operates under the decisions of the movement's council, was appointed. In addition, the Committee of the Spokespersons and the Audit Committee was elected. All officials were elected in secret elections and committed to equal representation of women and men in all elected institutions of the movement. It was decided that the elections for all institutions of the movement would be held once a year. source What was the February 26, 2023 Hawara pogrom?(05:24 or p.2 in the transcript)Following the murder of two Israeli brothers in the West Bank on Feb. 26, 2023, a mob of around 400 Israelis attacked the Palestinian town of Hawara. They torched dozens of homes and cars, leaving one dead and hundreds wounded before being stopped by Israeli security forces. Though some government leaders – including the head of the parliament's National Security Committee – praised the mob or called for the state itself to erase the town's existence, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned them for “taking the law into their own hands.” Others – including the top Israeli military commander Major General Yehuda Fuchs in the West Bank – used even stronger language, calling the attack a “pogrom,” as did a statement against the attack by the Israeli Historical Society, signed by some of Israel's most renowned historians. According to historian John Klier, a pogrom is “an outbreak of mass violence directed against a minority religious, ethnic or social group [that] usually implies central instigation and control, or at minimum the passivity of local authorities.” source Who was Meir Kahane?(06:08 or p.2 in the transcript)Meir Kahane was an American-born Israeli political extremist and rabbi who campaigned for self-protection of Jews. Kahane joined a paramilitary, right-wing youth movement in 1946. He was ordained an Orthodox rabbi in 1957 after studies at Mirrer Yeshiva in New York. In 1968 he formed the militant Jewish Defense League (JDL), attracted followers with the post-Holocaust slogan “Never Again,” and sent armed patrols of young Jews into Black neighborhoods. After being imprisoned for conspiring to make bombs, Kahane moved to Israel in 1971. There Kahane formed the Kach Party and stirred nationalist fervor against Arabs, whom he campaigned to remove (violently, if necessary) from Israel and all Israeli-occupied areas. He won a seat in the Israeli Knesset (parliament) in 1984, but his term ended when Israel banned the Kach Party for its antidemocratic and racist beliefs. Back in New York, Kahane was shot to death by a naturalized American of Egyptian descent. source What was the 2014 Gaza War?(08:17 or p.3 in the transcript)On July 8, 2014, Israel launched a large-scale military operation using aerial and naval firepower against a variety of targets associated with Hamas and other militant groups. After more than a week of bombardment failed to halt the rocket attacks, Israeli land forces entered the Gaza Strip on a mission to destroy tunnels and other elements of the militants' infrastructure. Israel withdrew its land forces from the Gaza Strip in early August, declaring that their mission had been fulfilled. Israeli air strikes continued, as did rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip. In late August, after nearly two months of fighting, Israeli and Palestinian leaders reached an open-ended cease-fire. In exchange for Palestinian adherence to the cease-fire, Israel agreed to allow more goods into the Gaza Strip, to expand the fishing zone off the coast of the Gaza Strip from 3 to 6 miles (5 to 10 km), and to enforce a narrower security buffer in the areas adjacent to the Israeli border. Overall, the conflict was one of the deadliest between Israelis and Palestinians: 70 Israelis and more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the fighting. sourceWhat was the 1967 Six-Day War?(30:15 or p.7 in the transcript)Six-Day War, also called June WarorThird Arab-Israeli WarorNaksah was brief war that took place June 5–10, 1967, and was the third of the Arab-Israeli wars. Israel's decisive victory included the capture of the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and Golan Heights; the status of these territories subsequently became a major point of contention in the Arab-Israeli conflict. The Six-Day War also marked the start of a new phase in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians since the conflict created hundreds of thousands of refugees and brought more than one million Palestinians in the occupied territories under Israeli rule. Months after the war, in November, the United Nations passed UN Resolution 242, which called for Israel's withdrawal from the territories it had captured in the war in exchange for lasting peace. That resolution became the basis for diplomatic efforts between Israel and its neighbors, including the Camp David Accords with Egypt and the push for a two-state solution with the Palestinians. source

Daily News Brief by TRT World

This is TRT World's Daily News Brief for Thursday, March 2nd. *) UN scrambles to reunite families after Turkey-Syria quake Reuniting children with their missing families has become the UN's top priority in the aftermath of last month's massive earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said that the first challenge is figuring out if the children's parents are alive. The Turkish minister for family affairs said more than 1,800 “unaccompanied children” have been reunited with their families since the quake. Efforts are under way to identify 83 other children and reunite them with family members. *) Israelis stage 'national disruption day' Weeks of anti-government protests in Israel have turned violent after Israeli police fired stun grenades and water cannons at demonstrators who blocked a Tel Aviv highway. Thousands of protesters across the country staged a "national disruption day," the latest in a string of mass protests against the Netanyahu-led government's judicial reforms. Protesters shouted "Where were you in Hawara?" at policemen, referring to Sunday's rampage by Jewish settlers through Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank. *) 'Global governance has failed': Indian PM Modi at G20 meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that multilateral institutions had failed to meet the world's most pressing challenges while opening the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi. Russia's offensive in Ukraine is set to dominate the meeting of the world's top diplomats. Modi pointed to financial crises, climate change, pandemic, terrorism and wars over the last few years as proof of the failure of global governance. *) Greece seeks answers over deadliest train tragedy A station master on duty during Greece's deadliest train accident is to testify in the central city of Larissa over the disaster that claimed 38 lives. The 59-year-old will appear before a prosecutor to explain how a passenger train with over 350 people on board was allowed to run on the same line as a freight train for several kilometres. The two trains collided near a tunnel outside Larissa before midnight on Tuesday. Two carriages were crushed and a third caught fire, trapping people inside. And finally… *) Fundraising campaign for quake-hit Türkiye collects nearly $45M in donations A fundraising campaign for the victims of last month's devastating earthquakes in Türkiye has received $44.8 million from benefactors on the first day of the event. Famous sports figures such as Kylian Mbappe, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Ruud Gullit, Mikel Arteta and Arsene Wenger supported the 'shoulder-to-shoulder' fundraising campaign, which is set to run until June 15. European Club Association (ECA) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi also donated over $2 million to Türkiye quake victims.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur and military correspondent Emanuel Fabian join host Amanda Borschel-Dan in today's episode. Yesterday 21-year-old Hallel and 19-year-old Yagel Yaniv were shot dead in a terror attack in the northern West Bank town of Huwara. Residents of the nearby Har Bracha settlement, they were shot while in a traffic jam on the Route 60 highway that bi-sects the Arab city. Fabian tells about the brothers and explains what we know about the murders. In retribution for the attack, last night a protest march held by dozens of Israeli settlers turned violent as they allegedly set fire to Palestinian property near the spot where the two Israeli brothers were shot dead. Where was the IDF or the Border Police during all of this? The manhunt is ongoing for the brothers' murderers. What steps is the IDF taking to find the gunman? Rettig Gur weighs in on the brothers' murders and the subsequent "pogrom" by Jews at the murder site. He asks, where are the newly minted ministers who are tasked with National Security -- Otzma Yehudit head Itamar Ben Gvir -- and settlements -- Religious Zionism head Bezalel Smotrich? Discussed articles include: Two Israeli brothers shot dead in West Bank terror attack — IDF Palestinian killed as settlers rampage in Huwara after deadly terror attack Settler rioting slammed by US, Abbas as some point finger at government IDF bolsters forces in West Bank amid manhunt for Huwara gunman, after settlers riot ‘We need burning villages': Coalition lawmaker backs unprecedented settler rampage Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts. Israel has deployed extra troops to the occupied West Bank, after a Palestinian man was shot dead as Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villages overnight, setting fire to houses and cars. The rioting was in response to the killing on Sunday of two Jewish brothers in one of the villages - Hawara. Emily is a new film starring Emma Mackey (of Sex Education fame) as the author of Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë. Emily is as wild as the windswept moorland she lives in; her relationships with her sisters, Anne and Charlotte, her dissolute brother, Branwell, and her lover, the curate Weightman, are as raw as the relentless rain, and as tender as the flashes of sunshine. But writer and Director Frances O'Connor's debut film is very much an imagined life. So, what will reviewers Samantha Ellis, author of a biography of Emily's sister, Anne, and the archaeologist Mike Pitts make of it? Samantha and Mike will also review Hieroglyphs: unlocking ancient Egypt. The new exhibition at the British Museum brings together more than 240 objects, some shown for the first time, and some very famous -the Rosetta Stone, Queen Nedjmet's Book of the Dead - to tell the story of the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Exhibitions about ancient Egypt tend to focus on the dead – mummies, Tutankhamun – this one is about how the Egyptians lived, wrote, and spoke. Lord Vaizey, former Conservative Culture Minister from 2010- 2016 has been appointed Chair of the Parthenon Project advisory panel. He joins Front Row to discuss the campaign to return the “Elgin Marbles” to Greece. Concluding Front Row's interviews with all of this year's Booker Prize shortlisted novelists is Shehan Karunatilaka. He discusses his second novel, The Seven Moons of Maali Almedia, a dark satire set against the backdrop of a civil war-ravaged Sri Lanka. You may know her work in the Pyramid Code, from the many speaking events and YouTube deep dives, but I was really more interested in the story of a self-made woman who: - remembers 85 past lives - packed a bag at the age of 6 to go "home to Egypt" - spent her life scientifically proving that her memories were true. And the ramifications on these forgotten memories on the true history of what we know to be real. FUCK. YES! The Unbelievable Labyrinth of Hawara YouTube: https://youtu.be/20nvvuZ5Mv4 During AIP's #EgyptLeap2020 Expedition we camped in the desert in Fayoum to study the constellation of Orion without the distraction of urban lighting. The next morning we set out for the fabled site of the Labyrinth of Hawara, and examined the Hawara Pyramid. The accounts by Herodotus and other ancient commentators about the Labyrinth are truly unbelievable. Meaning most people don't believe them. But there has been archaeological evidence to believe the Labyrinth is still in the ground, and if excavated by an industrious, ambitious Archaeologist, they would likely become associated with a find equal to that of the Great Pyramid or King Tut! With the current Ministries of Antiquity and Tourism now joined in Egypt, this may just be the time to invest in such exploration, which could create interest that would bring the crowds to the beautiful Fayoum now reserved to Luxor and Giza. AIP Director Larry Pahl talks a bit about ancient high technology after surveying the pyramid and grounds at Hawara. This will not be a traditional 5 star luxury tour, but a rugged investigation of some of the mysteries of Egypt. The current video shows part of a planning meeting of the AIP team in their Giza, Egypt apartment during their #EgyptLeap2020 Expedition in February of 2020 which involved studying the Orion Correlation Theory, the Alpha and Omegas of the Great Pyramid, the Fibonacci Spiral that goes through all three large Giza Pyramids, the Bethlehem-Great Pyramid angle, the Layer Pyramid, The Labyrinth of Hawara, Meidum, Sakkara and Heliopolis. This clip from the AIP planning meeting shows some of the banter between sacred geometry graphics designer Will Weyer, photographer Orion Pahl and Director Larry Pahl. You can get a first hand look here at the AIP commitment to honest research, and the camaraderie we attempt to groom in our work. This video ends with talk of the plans for the research to be done the next day in the Great Pyramid by measuring the slope angles of its passages... we will follow through with the research from those measurements soon... Stay tuned! For part of the time we are meeting the song "Where's My Love?" by SYML is playing, so I hope they don't hit us with a copyright strike, but allow the clip!
