What if the reason your best ideas keep falling flat has nothing to do with the quality of the idea?In this episode, Michael Reddington sits down with John Bates, a globally recognized leadership and executive communications coach who has worked with organizations including NASA, Intuit, and Johnson and Johnson. John has delivered multiple TED Talks, coached executives and leaders on every continent, and built a career around one core conviction: communication is not logical. It is biological. This conversation will fundamentally change how you think about every high-stakes conversation you walk into. John breaks down why the ancient part of your brain makes decisions before your logical brain even gets a vote, why trying to establish your credibility usually destroys it, and why the most powerful thing a speaker can do is stop talking about themselves.John unpacks the neuroscience behind why people say yes, yes, yes and then no, how to build emotional credibility before you say a single persuasive word, and the difference between vulnerability that connects and vulnerability that costs you. If you lead people, sell ideas, or speak in front of any audience at all, this episode will give you a new framework for what it actually means to land your message where it counts. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeWhy communication is biological and why logic alone will almost never win a high-stakes conversationHow the paleomammalian brain makes decisions before the logical brain even registers themWhy the yes, yes, yes, no pattern in sales and negotiations is not a lie but a missing emotional connectionWhat emotional credibility is, why it needs to come first, and how to establish it fastHow insightful vulnerability builds trust faster than any credential or accomplishmentWhy your credibility is already established before you walk into the room and trying to prove it only hurts youThe difference between curating for your audience versus dumping everything you know on themWhy saying "I told you so" is proof you failed to communicate, not proof you were rightHow to reframe public speaking anxiety by shifting your attention from yourself to the people you are servingWhy the best ideas, candidates, and products often lose because communication broke down, not because they were wrongChapters(00:00) Why Communication Is Biological, Not Logical(04:24) How the Paleomammalian Brain Makes Decisions Before You Do(08:08) The Yes Yes Yes No Problem and What It Really Means(13:25) What Emotional Credibility Is and Why It Has to Come First(16:59) Origin Stories and the Power of Insightful Vulnerability(22:06) "Don't Insult the Listening" and the Lesson of Trusting Your Audience(26:56) Why Communication Is a Function of Leadership(28:33) Taking Responsibility for What People Hear, Not Just What You Say(33:05) How to Make the Complicated Simple by Curating, Not Dumping(41:37) How to Beat Public Speaking Anxiety by Serving Instead of PerformingAbout the GuestJohn Bates is an executive leadership communications coach, keynote speaker, and entrepreneur who has spent over 15 years helping leaders, teams, and organizations communicate in ways that actually move people. Many nonprofit learning and development professionals know their work matters, but still find themselves executing requests rather than shaping solutions. In this episode of Learning for Good, I sit down with global learning and development leader Mark Nilles to explore what it really means to shift from order taker to strategic partner, and how nonprofit L&D professionals can build the capability, opportunity, and motivation to lead with influence.Strategic partnership is not a personality type or a seniority level. In this compelling episode of the Dr. Geo Prostate Podcast, Dr. Geo sits down with internationally renowned exercise oncology pioneer Professor Robert Newton to explore the groundbreaking science behind exercise as medicine for cancer.Inspired by his father's battle with prostate cancer, Professor Newton has spent decades researching how targeted exercise can improve treatment outcomes, preserve muscle mass, strengthen immune function, reduce treatment side effects, and potentially slow cancer progression. Together, Dr. Geo and Professor Newton discuss why muscle is far more than a movement organ—it functions as a powerful endocrine organ that releases cancer-fighting compounds known as myokines. The conversation dives deep into exercise intensity, resistance training, chemotherapy and radiation timing, wearable technology, exercise "dosing," and the landmark Phase III clinical trial that demonstrated exercise can significantly improve survival outcomes in cancer patients. They also discuss practical strategies for overcoming fear of the gym, maintaining muscle during androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and why sitting all day may undermine your health even if you exercise regularly.Whether you're living with prostate cancer, supporting a loved one, or simply interested in maximizing your healthspan, this episode provides actionable, science-backed strategies to help you move from surviving to thrivingEpisode Timestamps00:00 Introduction & Guest Welcome 03:00 Rob Newton's Father & Origin Story 09:30 Exercise as the #1 Anti-Cancer Tool 17:00 Landmark Exercise Oncology Trial 20:00 Exercise as Medicine 26:00 Resistance Training Intensity Explained 35:30 Exercise Before Radiation & Chemotherapy 40:00 Exercise Timing Around Treatment 47:00 Myokines: Muscle as Medicine 52:00 NEAT & Daily Movement 58:00 Final Takeaways & Closing ThoughtsResources MentionedMy Exercise Medicine for Cancer by Professor Robert NewtonExercise Medicine Research InstituteNew England Journal of Medicine Exercise Oncology TrialAmerican Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Researc___________________________________
Step into Episode 217 of On The Delo as Delo sits down with Corey and TJ from inKind to break down one of the most innovative financing and marketing models in the restaurant industry today. Built by operators for operators, inKind gives restaurants upfront capital at zero interest — and a 5-million-user marketing engine to back it up.From a D.C. restaurant incubator 11 years ago to over 8,000 restaurant partners nationwide, Corey and TJ unpack how inKind turned a $500 gift card idea into a non-dilutive funding platform that's helping Arizona restaurants survive 120-degree summers, pay off high-interest loans, and drive 90% net new diners through the door. Delo shares his own experience as both a hospitality veteran and active inKind affiliate — making this conversation raw, practical, and deeply credible for anyone who owns, operates, or eats at restaurants.Chapter Guide (Timestamps):(0:00 - 1:13) Freestyle Intro, Mic Check, and Episode 216 Kickoff(1:14 - 2:49) Delo's Intro: Risky Business Book Promo & Five-Star Ask(2:50 - 4:51) Meet Corey & TJ: Backgrounds, Arizona, and Why This Summer Matters(4:52 - 7:42) The Origin Story: 11 Years, a D.C. The MAFFEO DRINKS Podcast is a leading drinks business podcast, listened to in 120 countries worldwide with 125+ episodes. Honest conversations about how the industry actually works, from the bar and what it means for the boardroom. This Episode is hosted by Chris Maffeo and brought to you by MAFFEO DRINKS.This episode is a working session on how to build a non-alcoholic brand that does not announce its own absence. Steven Grasse, the brand-builder behind Hendrick's, Sailor Jerry, and Quaker City Mercantile, breaks down Pathfinder: a hemp-and-root-distilled, amaro-style non-alcoholic spirit that entered every Total Wine and Whole Foods without a trial. The conversation covers why non-alcoholic brands must not be “stupid,” the comparison trap of positioning as a replacement, brand mysticism as a method that transcends category, the four pillars of brand creation, launching on-premise first, designing a liquid versatile enough to be a “bartender's ketchup,” the discipline of owning a home turf before the hot cities, and the regulatory freedom that lets a non-alcoholic brand be weirder than any spirit. It is a masterclass in building a great brand that just happens to not have alcohol.Timestamps:00:00 Introduction to the Pathfinder00:49 The Origin Story of Pathfinder02:14 Crafting the Unique Flavor Profile04:38 Marketing Strategy and Brand Positioning11:26 Launching Pathfinder in Seattle15:43 The Mystical and Historical Elements18:40 Pathfinder's Market Success and Future25:11 Final Thoughts and Conclusion Wanna know what the conversation above means for your team? HubSpot retired a 15-year-old word, and George B. Thomas wanted to be a fly on the wall in the room where it got decided. In this episode, he and Chad Hohn get the next best thing: a sit-down with Kat Tooley, HubSpot's VP of Global Events and Experiential Marketing and the architect behind turning INBOUND into UNBOUND.This is the untold origin story, the internal fears, and what UNBOUND 2026 actually means for the humans who built their businesses on the word INBOUND.In this episode:• UNBOUND started as a half-joke at an internal kickoff, then survived a multi-year planning cycle that could have killed it• Why Yamini stayed the path: "We have conviction and we know this name feels right. We've done the testing."• HubSpot didn't bury inbound. It outgrew the word. The methodology is still alive.• The thread tying Tom Brady, Cynthia Erivo, Mel Robbins, and Suni Williams to "unbound"• How HubSpot runs the whole event out of its own portal, with Breeze and a full ROI model: "its own little HubSpot within HubSpot"• Kat's two-rule discipline for a rebrand that lands: evolution, not revolution• What's new for 2026: the Exchanges, the Spotlight keynote, and a new CPO on stageRegister for UNBOUND 2026 (September 16 to 18, Boston): https://unbound.hubspot.comRead the full recap: https://sidekickstrategies.com/podcast/hubheroes-inbound-to-unbound-origin-story
As many will already know, it was the youngest child of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine who would become a prominent figure in the lives of the modern world of the Windsors. Young Louis Battenberg, later Louis Mountbatten, was known as Dickie to his confidants, and was stung early when his father, First Sea Lord of the British Navy, was removed from his post at the outbreak of WWI because of his German origins. The episode would motivate his son to excel in a Naval career to reclaim the title, and the then-Mountbattens' familial closeness with the House of Windsor would give him an avenue to real political power and influence. Edwina Ashley, future wife of Louis Mountbatten, was born into a family of means, but not of emotional connection. While her grandfather, Sir Ernest Cassel, was kind and involved, her parents left her sister and Edwina to mostly be raised by governesses. After her mother's death, Edwina's father married for a second time to a woman Louis would later describe as "a wicked woman." Edwina was ultimately able to find refuge in her grandfather's home, where as a teenager she became a sophisticated society hostess and a friend to many in the monied elite. Sir Ernest Cassel's death, when Edwina was about 20, made her one of the richest women in England. Upon her engagement to the much-less-rich Louis Mountbatten, Sir Anthony Eden noted in his diary, "Edwina Ashley is engaged to Lord Louis Mountbatten. What a waste." The 2x4. Its the basic piece of modern stick frame construction. But it is not actually 2" by 4". Many of us know this, but do we know why the size has changed but the name stayed the same. Moreover how did anyone even start with those dimensions. This single piece of lumber is a representation of all the changes that have occured in the building trades and the optimization of forestry, economics, and manufacturiung. Its not a measure but a convergence of optimization.

Host Jason Pereira interviews Brian Thorpe, CEO of Wealthtender, a platform that helps consumers find financial advisors through compliant online reviews following a landmark 2021 SEC rule change. Wealthtender makes using testimonials safe and simple by automatically embedding required regulatory disclosures that standard review sites like Google miss, allowing advisors to easily import existing feedback and solicit new reviews without "cherry-picking" only their best clients.Because the platform ranks highly on search engines, these compliant testimonials easily surface on Google and feed directly into AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini. This significantly boosts an advisor's online discovery and builds immediate trust with everyday consumers looking for financial advice. This episode is a must-listen for financial advisors looking to safely grow their online reputation and digital footprint under modern compliance rules.Episode Highlights:00:00 Welcome and Guest Intro00:27 What Is Wealthtender01:04 Origin Story and SEC Rule Shift02:29 Why Google Reviews Fail04:28 Advisor Onboarding Experience05:46 Using Testimonials Everywhere07:30 How Reviews Are Collected09:14 Measuring Impact and Visibility10:27 AI Search and AEO Strategy12:16 Advisor Wins and Social Proof15:13 Future Roadmap in AI Era16:59 Transparency and Buying Decisions21:48 Rapid Fire Closing Questions28:02 Wrap Up and Sponsor MessageResources:Facebook – Jason Pereira's FacebookLinkedIn – Jason Pereira's LinkedInWoodgate.com – SponsorWealthtenderLinkedIn - Brian Thorp's LinkedIn Hosted on Acast. In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are bringing you the rare Chaunce and Zach solo pod. In this one, we tell the full origin story of Backpacker Radio, from the unofficial co-host audition at a hiker meetup, to Chaunce showing up at the wrong restaurant on day one, to almost not making it past the early episodes. We get into how our interviewing dynamic has evolved over eight years, the technical disasters of the early days, the team that quietly makes this whole thing work, our all-time favorite guests, the ones we never aired, the dream guests we still haven't landed, and answer a slew of listener questions. We wrap the show with a triple crown of worst ways to die, share the news that apparently Roundup is being sprayed in our national forests, opine on whether we'd rather give up sauces or kissing (and debate whether butter is a sauce), and give an overview on how to negotiate a thru-hiking sabbatical from your employer. Host Dave Gebroe talks with podcast OG Joe Kennedy about the classic psych band's entire recorded output, with commentary on their history, wild stories, and star ratings for every release, including long-form interviews with both Johnny Echols and the members of Baby Lemonade, who've served as Love now for coming up on 35 years. 7 & 7 & 7 Is: The Definitive 21-Episode Story Of Arthur Lee & Love was consciously crafted to act as the ultimate repository of fact and opinion on one of the greatest bands to ever walk the face of the earth, the almighty Love. Part 18 covers the early 1990s to the early 2000s, a period which encompasses both the nadir and zenith of Arthur's career—that is, his stint in prison and his redemptive, post-release victory lap tour of Forever Changes—by which time Arthur's experienced the kind of adulation of which he'd been deserving since a large audience had last paid attention. Here are just a few of the many things that Joe discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: The Origin Story: how Baby Lemonade wound up crossing paths and then working with Arthur Lee; What spurned the unfortunate early exit of Baby Lemonade bassist Henry Liu; Their first recording session together, and why it was an immediate red flag for the new backing band; The facts behind the evening that landed Arthur in prison; Why a man named Gene Kraut was almost entirely responsible for the rehabilitation of Arthur's reputation; The new batch of Arthur Lee material, and the central conundrum it posed; The big comeback falls apart during their homecoming show at Royce Hall; And an overview of Arthur & Baby Lemonade's “Girl On Fire” single. Dan Rankine (aka 'trials') was the only little Aboriginal boy living in his rural Welsh village when he woke up shaking from a nightmare. That's when he and his mother knew they needed to go home to Adelaide.Dan is now one of Australia's most respected hip hop producers, writers and rappers.Born in Adelaide, Dan spent his early years on the other side of the world - in the rolling, green hills of rural Wales - with his mum, who had fled there from Dan's violent father in the middle of the night.Far from his Ngarrindjeri connections, and with no one around who looked like him, Dan felt isolated. After an unexplained nightmare, he and his mum decided to move back to Adelaide, where things didn't suddenly become perfect. But a car crash, which could have been tragic, became an incredible turning point in Dan's life, allowing him to buy his first set of turntables. And at 16 years old, Dad set himself on the path to becoming 'trials', performing, writing and producing with and for artists like the Funkoars, Hilltop Hoods, Archie Roach and A.B. Original.Dan has recently stepped out on his own, to release his debut solo album Hendle - something of an origin story, full of honesty, pain and passion.Hendle is out now. Matt Oh was an engineer with a stable career and a 9-to-5 when a mission trip to India stopped him in his tracks. He saw something he couldn't unsee — women and children spending 10 hours a day walking to collect dirty water. In 2015, he founded FOREFRONT Charity with a few college friends and one water well. Today, more than 100,000 people across India, Kenya, and East Africa have been impacted through clean water, education, medical care, and empowerment. 105 water wells drilled. A school built, in which 20% of the students once worked in child labor, that now serves more than 250 first-generation students. A 90% program efficiency rate. Clearly, an engineer is running this.

This episode is sponsored by Deel.Hire, manage and pay – anyone, anywhere: https://www.deel.com/nickdayhr/In this episode of @thehrldpodcast Nick Day is joined by Jackie Dube, Chief People Officer at The Predictive Index, with over two decades of experience helping organizations unlock performance through behavioral science and talent optimization. Grounding her work in a simple but powerful belief, that happy, aligned people do better work and live better lives, Jackie brings both the science and the human heart to one of the most pressing challenges facing workplaces today.Jackie brings a rare blend of behavioral expertise and people leadership into the world of HR and organizational performance. Together, Nick and Jackie explore why so many employees, despite better tools, more flexibility, and greater leadership investment than ever before, still feel a deep sense of emptiness at work, and what leaders can actually do about it.This conversation unpacks what it truly means to align people with their work from the inside out. Nick and Jackie discuss why engagement and meaning are not the same thing, how the four behavioral drives of dominance, extraversion, patience, and formality determine what energizes or drains each employee, and why the same task can be deeply motivating for one person and completely demotivating for another. They explore how hiring for speed quietly erodes culture, why interpersonal conflicts at work are almost always behavioral mismatches rather than personality clashes, and how leaders can use the three whys technique to reconnect people to organizational purpose. They also cover the four forces of engagement, the role of pulse surveys in detecting disengagement early, and how AI adoption is creating a new wave of workforce fear that behavioral science is uniquely equipped to address. The discussion highlights PI's J-curve framework for navigating change, why transparency around AI matters more than most leaders realize, and how understanding what drives each individual is the foundation of a truly high-performing team.In a world shaped by remote work, rapid AI adoption, and growing disconnection, this episode examines why behavioral science may be the most practical and powerful tool HR and L&D professionals have in 2026 to restore meaning, motivation, and performance across their organizations.A must-listen for HR leaders, L&D professionals, and anyone ready to stop guessing what their people need and start building workplaces where people are genuinely wired to thrive.Enjoyed this? What does it actually take to build an empire, and what do you have to overcome within yourself to get there? In this episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius sits down with Elena Cardone, entrepreneur, philanthropist, investor, and bestselling author of “Build an Empire: How to Have it All”. Elena opens up about a childhood marked by profound loss, how she left New Orleans at 17 with nothing but a dream of making it in Hollywood, and the pivotal moment in 2008 that changed everything. When the financial crisis brought her and Grant to the edge of losing it all, Elena made a decision that would reshape her identity, her marriage, and her future. Elena and Darius go deep on what it really means to build a life by design.
