In this episode we speak to Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge,  both boomerangs, who came together to create Illuminate Adelaide. Shining a light on South Australia for the month of July, Illuminate Adelaide welcomes people from all walks of life to experience a program of free and ticketed events by local, national and international artists and companies.Over a 25-year career in the arts, there isn't much Rachael Azzopardi hasn't done. From steering the musical spread of Barrie Kosky's legendary 1996 Adelaide Festival program to overseeing the casting of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games. She has travelled around the world to work with the industry's biggest names across virtually every form and market, from Hong Kong to Broadway. After many years spent living and working away most recently in senior roles at Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Festival and Chunky Move, Rachael returned to her hometown with a purpose. She saw incredible things happening across the state's arts and technology sectors, and felt moved to break down old silos and expectations to give Adelaide something it had never experienced before; something accessible, immersive, city-wide. Something new.Rachael has put her depth of knowledge and experience to work exploring unchartered territory to bring Illuminate Adelaide to life together with Co- Founder and Creative Director Lee Cumberlidge. After cutting his teeth with WOMADelaide and Arts Projects Australia, Lee spent the next ten years as a producer bringing major international artists and experimental independent works alike to audiences around the world as well as staging large scale arts events such as the Cultural Festival of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the World Theatre Festival in Brisbane. In 2008 Lee and the company he co-founded, Insite Arts, were called upon by Brian Ritchie and David Walsh to bring a bold, untested vision of Hobart and Tasmania to life. More than a festival, Mona Foma became a Helpmann-winning experiment in reinvention, transforming the southern capital into an international arts destination. In 2017, Lee returned to Adelaide, where his passion for working with artists and creating new experiences for audiences found new inspiration.Lee produced the Adelaide iteration of the highly acclaimed experimental music festival Unsound in Adelaide in 2017 and 2018 before rejoining Arts Projects Australia as a co-director to produce tours of international work. Most recently Lee has teamed up with Rachael Azzopardi to create Illuminate Adelaide; a new, city-wide winter event focused on art, light, music and technology.

This week on Episode 533 of Priority One: ViacomCBS tries to make amends to the world; First Contact celebrates 25 years; Badgey finally makes it into Star Trek Online; and we continue our S4 review of Star Trek: Discovery! TREK IT OUT Edited by Thomas Reynolds How World War III Really Starts By Elio Lleo Before we left you for our Thanksgiving break, we reported that ViacomCBS had pulled Star Trek: Discovery from Netflix, leaving our friends outside of the US and Canada without a way to watch the latest season until sometime in 2022. Well, ViacomCBS has performed a massive international course correction. The fact that DSC was the fourth-most pirated series during Thanksgiving? Completely unrelated. Image: MUSO, via Deadline. Perhaps it was the international uproar. Perhaps it was because their poor planning was so misguided that it made headlines on news outlets like the BBC. Whatever the case may be, Paramount+ announced that Star Trek: Discovery will now be available internationally via Paramount+ or Pluto TV. You can find a detailed list of which platform in which country Discovery will be made available here.  Turbulence On Star Trek's Magic Carpet Ride By Elio Lleo It's been 25 years since Star Trek: First Contact premiered in movie theaters. Widely regarded as one of the best films of the franchise, its production wasn't entirely a walk in the park. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, writer Ronald D. Moore shares some behind the scenes stories about the film–including a clash with Sir Patrick Stewart.  According to Moore, Stewart wasn't too thrilled about some of the writing so he convinced Rick Berman to replace Moore and his co-writer Brannon Braga with some of his own writers. However, those new writers didn't quite work out…so Braga and Moore were brought back. Awkward. Even more awkward than this, apparently. Image: ViacomCBS, via TrekNews. Moore shares the story: "I remember Patrick at the outset just said something like: ‘It's good to see you. I hope that we can all move on from the things that have happened, and now let's just concentrate on the work.' And I took that in the spirit it was given: [He] wants to move on from this, he's not going to apologize outright, but he kind of is apologizing. And it was never spoken of again. So we just moved on." The Moore You Know Moore also spoke with SyFy about his work on the film. In this interview, there's more discussion about the actual development of the script and it's production. For instance, did you know that one of the original drafts had Riker as the action star–facing off against the Borg aboard the Enterprise. But Sir Patrick wanted in on the action–recalling the episode “Starship Mine.” They even toyed with the idea of setting the film in medieval times! Another version had Picard trying to find affordable rent in San Francisco. Image: ViacomCBS, via American Cinematographer. When asked about scenes for stories that he wished hadn't been cut, Moore explains: "There were just expanded sequences. There was just more action in general, more fighting the Borg in the corridors, and going into different places on the ship. And I think there was more humor. A lot of the jokes got cut down. I think we had more fun with Troi (Marina Sirtis) and Cochrane's relationship on Earth, where he gets her drunk. We had more to that sequence scripted and that was fun to write, too. Rick might have made us cut it because he was always a little too–he was always kind of worried that maybe the humor would be too corny or something." The Other Kind of Star Trek Royalty One aspect of the film that Trekkies like to debate is the introduction of the Borg Queen. Well, Trekkies aren't the only ones that debated her introduction. According to Moore: "...it was a choice that was also antithetical to the idea of the Borg. The whole concept of these villains was that they were a collection, and that there were no individuals. And that's what made them the faceless, implacable 'resistance is futile' enemy. But it also limited how to deal with them dramatically…[s]o we really went back and forth about it internally…[w]e decided that the story would be better if we had some individual to deal with." Comparing thee to a summer's day, you're making everyone overly sweaty. Image: ViacomCBS, via American Cinematographer. "To craft scenes around, to do an intimate kind of dialogue back and forth and help get inside characters' heads–like Data in particular, and Picard. So what we came up with...a Borg Queen that controlled at least this collective of that particular ship, not necessarily that she was the queen of the whole Borg…" For more insight about the film and its production process, be sure to Trek Out both interviews. Whoopi Brings Trek Full Circle By Cat Hough Well, while we're talking about Picard: the next season is premiering in February, and we're getting bits of information about the upcoming season, including Michelle Hurd's view on working with Whoopi Goldberg.  Michelle Hurd told a fan via Cameo what filming Picard Season 2 was like, saying “I pinch myself. This release will be the first installment in a series of extra-long one-shots spotlighting the Star Trek franchise's most iconic alien species. It's written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly and features artist Timothy Green II. Well Someone's Going To Have A Blast A more surprising addition for this year's event is a new Breen Ground Set. Breen Cryoshaper Armor [HP] [Mob] [ResEn] ∞ [Active] Ablative Ice Shield generates a shield of ablative ice, providing temporary Health] that grows each time the wielder deals Cold damage, with the extra Health based on Cold damage dealt. This event will run simultaneously across all platforms (PC and console).  STO Looks Into The Crystal Ball Sphere By Cat Hough In a recent interview with StarTrek.com, Design Director Al Rivera and Staff Writer Paul Reed discuss what it was like to incorporate Star Trek: Discovery into Star Trek Online. The two discussed their initial reactions to hearing about the new show and how having new content to draw from and how that has helped add more content to the game.  Because Captains in the game have gone to all four quadrants, made peace with the Founders, saved time itself, and even won, barely, a war against the ancient Iconians, having new Star Trek shows like Discovery gives the team that extra bit of inspiration. Reed already has an interesting idea for how to tie the lore into the far future setting of Discovery's third and fourth seasons. “Say for example, are the Iconians still around in that time era? And if so, what are they doing? Have they evolved? Have they changed? Are they still mad? It's been a long time, but I'd like to go into some pockets of our lore in that far future and then tie in with the Discovery team in some way. So, seeing how the Iconians handled the Burn for example would be pretty cool.”  Then again, how can you possibly top this? Image: Cryptic Studios, via StarTrek.com Rivera had some of his own ideas for stories to tap into. “And they got all the Sphere data, what was that about? That's a perfect example of a story where we can jump off of and talk about what that was, or what's a gormagander? Let's talk about that. So there are opportunities there.” Well, we're excited to play all of these stories in-game. Anytime now. Cheers to Club 47! I am a fan too, I literally pinch myself when on set or get to work with these amazing iconic creatures.” She was referring to both John de Lancie's return as Q and Goldberg's return as Guinan. Gregor präsentiert Altes in neuem Gewand: FIRE EMBLEM: SHADOW DRAGON & THE BLADE OF LIGHT in der Switch-Version.

In Star Trek gaming, there's Klingon Adventures, Star Trek Online's Winter Wonderland, and Grudge! Later, Dr. Robert Hurt joins us for an Astrometrics Report and joins us for “On Screen” to review Discovery's Season 3 episode, “Unification III.” Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Hawley Trek Hardly Likely If you were looking forward to “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley's vision for Star Trek, then we have some bad news. According to the creator, “it doesn't appear to be in the immediate future." The 53 year-old Hawley sat down with Deadline this week to talk about the aforementioned “Fargo” series 4 finale, a possible “Aliens” series, and Star Trek. On the latter, Hawley told Deadline that ”It doesn't appear to be in my immediate future. I think when Emma came in, she took a look at the franchise and wanted to go in a different direction with it. But you know, life is long, we were very close to production but in this business that doesn't mean much. You got to get out of the gate to be in the race if you know what I mean.” Nothing definitive, but it doesn't sound great. Image linked from FX Networks Is Tarantino Mad, Bro? Moving on to another likely-dead Star Trek film, is there a feud between director Quentin Tarantino and star Simon Pegg. Back in July of 2019, Tarantino told Deadline ”I get annoyed at Simon Pegg. He doesn't know anything about what's going on and he keeps making all these comments as if he knows about stuff. One of the comments he said, he's like “Well, look, it's not going to be Pulp Fiction in space.” Yes, it is! [laughs hard]. If I do it, that's exactly what it'll be. It'll be Pulp Fiction in space. That Pulp Fiction-y aspect, when I read the script, I felt, I have never read a science fiction movie that has this sh*t in it, ever.” Image linked from Deadline But was Tarantino mad, bro? According to Simon Pegg, no. In an interview with Radio Times, Pegg said ”I was just saying the opposite of what people were assuming it was going to be. Then I heard this story that Quentin was mad at me! I haven't read his treatment [of Star Trek], but I've heard it's very ‘Quentin Tarantino does Star Trek', you know. And it's everything you would hope from that.Actually, I saw him at a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood thing. I was like ‘You're not mad at me, are you?' He was like, ‘No, man, no! The press are blowing it all out of proportion!' We had a good laugh about it.” So...good? Image linked from TrekMovie.com The Artistry of Star Trek with Dan Curry Releasing on the day of this recording, December 1st, a new book outlining the visual beauty of Star Trek, titled Star Trek: The Artistry of Dan Curry will hit bookshelves. The creator of the art, Dan Curry,  sat down with Space.com to talk about his time with Star Trek. Image copyright Titan Books, linked from Space.com Curry reflected on his time with the Peace Corps, and how his travels through Asia affected his designs ”when you see exteriors of Klingon cities or Klingon outposts, most of them were matte paintings by the great Syd Dutton. I'd work with him on evolving a style that was a composite of Thai, Lao, and Nepali architecture. I did some of the matte paintings myself, like the Klingon Lamasery, which is a Tibetan-looking building on a mountaintop inspired by a train trip I took through the Canadian Rockies.” In regards to his on-set memorabilia, Curry says ”It was frowned upon. Anything I wanted, I'd ask the producers for. I do have Bat'leth #1 and Mek'leth #1 and I have a little hand prop from "Deep Space Nine," a Cardassian device like an alien iPad that has my face on it as a deceased mad scientist. I have some of the shards left over when we'd blow up a model. Sometimes I'd make space debris made out of plastic parts melted over a candle. If we came upon a destroyed spaceship, the random plastic parts would be the debris that would fly by. I did keep a lot of my storyboards and concept sketches.” To read the article, or for a link to purchase “Star Trek: The Artistry of Dan Curry” - written by Curry and Herocollector's own Ben Robinson - you can follow the link in our show notes. Simon & Schuster Sold to Penguin If you're a fan of Star trek novels, listen up! ViacomCBS has struck a deal with publisher Penguin Randomhouse to sell its publishing arm - Simon and Schuster. The deal was struck on Wednesday, November 25th for a whopping $2B dollars, which according to the New York Times creates the first “megapublisher." The deal will certainly shake up the publishing world, giving Penguin Randomhouse access to authors like Stephen King and Doris Kearns Goodwin, as well as the Star Trek catalogue - but what does it mean for the Star Trek novels?  Penguin Randomhouse CEO Jonathan Karp said in an interview ”This is a company that respects the creative autonomy of publishers.  We'll all still be competing against each other. Publishing is a business driven by individual passions for books and for writers.” Best case scenario - the books keep coming, but get more push from the megapublisher. Worst case - the books stop all together. For now, it's a waiting game. Stay tuned, we'll bring you more as we hear it! ASTROMETRICS REPORT by Dr. Robert Hurt and Thomas Reynolds Via con Dios, Arecibo On December 1st, the Arecibo Observatory's main telescope suffered catastrophic structural failure when its instrument platform fell into the 305 m dish. Footage from the main control tower and an aerial drone captured the collapse, as one of the three support cable sets failed and the falling platform pulled the rest down into the dish. Image source: Ricardo Arduengo/AFP via Getty Images and Gizmodo https://gizmodo.com/drone-video-shows-dramatic-moment-of-arecibo-collapse-1845799543 Severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017, and subsequent earthquakes in 2018 and 2019, the telescope was slated for controlled deconstruction mere weeks ago. The Observatory's visitor center, secondary radio telescope, and LIDAR array were fortunately left undamaged and are expected to continue operations. https://gizmodo.com/gut-wrenching-photos-show-damage-at-arecibo-observatory-1845790190 Mergers & Astrometrics: The Blue Ring Nebula For the better part of two decades, the enigmatic Blue Ring Nebula has been a picturesque astronomic puzzle. Invisible to the human eye, ultraviolet imaging from the NASA GALEX satellite showed a thick dust ring around the structure's central star (thus the name). For all purposes it looked like a dead star's remains, but with an active star in the center that shouldn't be there. So...what gives? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY8J8hFHhiw According to simulations by Hoadley et al., it's actually wreckage from a head-on stellar collision from thousands of years ago. Stars crashing into each other is nothing new in our galaxy, but until now we've only had examples that are hundreds of times older. Therefore the Blue Ring isn't just the most recent stellar merger for astronomers to study, it's also one of the most valuable. Blue Ring Nebula (historical re-enactment). This week on Episode 488 of Priority One, we ‘Trek Out’ Noah Hawley’s thoughts on the future, Tartantino’s beef with Pegg, Dan Curry’s artistry, and MEGA PUBLISHERS. In Star Trek gaming, there’s Klingon Adventures, Star Trek Online’s Winter Wonderland, and Grudge! Later, Dr. Robert Hurt joins us for an Astrometrics Report and joins us for “On Screen” to review Discovery’s Season 3 episode, “Unification III.” Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages.Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Hawley Trek Hardly Likely If you were looking forward to “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley’s vision for Star Trek, then we have some bad news. According to the creator, “it doesn’t appear to be in the immediate future." The 53 year-old Hawley sat down with Deadline this week to talk about the aforementioned “Fargo” series 4 finale, a possible “Aliens” series, and Star Trek. On the latter, Hawley told Deadline that ”It doesn’t appear to be in my immediate future. I think when Emma came in, she took a look at the franchise and wanted to go in a different direction with it. But you know, life is long, we were very close to production but in this business that doesn’t mean much. You got to get out of the gate to be in the race if you know what I mean.” Nothing definitive, but it doesn’t sound great. He doesn’t know anything about what’s going on and he keeps making all these comments as if he knows about stuff. One of the comments he said, he’s like “Well, look, it’s not going to be Pulp Fiction in space.” Yes, it is! [laughs hard]. If I do it, that’s exactly what it’ll be. It’ll be Pulp Fiction in space. I haven’t read his treatment [of Star Trek], but I’ve heard it’s very ‘Quentin Tarantino does Star Trek’, you know. And it’s everything you would hope from that.Actually, I saw him at a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood thing. I was like ‘You’re not mad at me, are you?’ He was like, ‘No, man, no! The press are blowing it all out of proportion!’ We had a good laugh about it.” So...good? I did keep a lot of my storyboards and concept sketches.” To read the article, or for a link to purchase “Star Trek: The Artistry of Dan Curry” - written by Curry and Herocollector’s own Ben Robinson - you can follow the link in our show notes. Simon & Schuster Sold to Penguin If you’re a fan of Star trek novels, listen up! We’ll all still be competing against each other. And if Klingon warriors understand anything, it’s getting physical. No, not like...well actually, yes like...anyway, Modiphius understands as well, and has the tools of violence to accommodate. Preorders are open for the Star Trek Adventures Klingon Empire Dice Set and Gamemaster Toolkit, with expected release next February. The Dice set includes four Star Trek Adventures-branded d6s and two d20s for $19.96 US. For $46.59 US, the Toolkit combines PDF and printed and GM screens, player reference sheets, and a 20-page one-shot story. The Toolkit also offers double-sided maps of Klingon space and Alpha/Beta Quadrants, but in the original Klingonese. Good thing you have until February to learn the language. TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Rosario Dawson's Favorite Letter -- or Character? From Christopher Lloyd to Christopher Plummer, Chris Pine to Chris Helmsworth - boy that's a lot of Chris's - Star Trek has attracted some outstanding talent. Chrisitian Slater's cameo in Star Trek VI - another Chris - and Whoopie Goldberg's recurring role as Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation proved to Hollywood stars that a little pushing could land them in their favorite franchise; and Rosario Dawson has taken notice. Dawson sat down with “Variety After Show”'s Audrey Cleo Yap to talk about her role as Allegra Dill on USA's “Briarpatch”, but the 40 year-old Actor also talked about her desire to be in Star Trek. Dawson is rumored to be playing a part in Disney+' s popular Star WARS series, “The Mandalorian”, and while she couldn't confirm the rumor, she mentioned the 2 Star-franchises are bucket list acting jobs. LeVar Burton Gets Coy About Geordie on Picard LeVar Burton is amazing. Whether playing the inspirational Kunta Kinte in the “Roots” miniseries, taking us on a reading adventure via “Reading Rainbow”, or soaring through the galaxy as Geordi LaForge, there isn't much he can't do. Well, except maybe keep a secret. Much like his former co-star and close friend, Jonathan Frakes, Burton may have let slip details for an upcoming appearance on Star Trek. Sitting down with ET's Lauren Zima, Burton all but guaranteed an appearance on “Star Trek: Picard” Anson Mount Talks Pike with Space.com You want a Pike series. We want a Pike series. And yes, Anson Mount wants a Pike series. In an interview with Space.com, the unabashed Trekkie Anson Mount recounted being cast in the role of the iconic Captain, reiterated that actors aren't decision makers, and didn't waffle on his thoughts about reprising Pike. Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Shane Hoover Winter is Coming…. Again The days are getting longer again. The birds and the budding trees welcome the sun's warmth. We gaze out our Shelter-In-Place windows and… “Snowmen are coming down Blue Lozenge lane!” In a completely unexpected move to help players distract themselves from cabin fever, Q's Winter Wonderland is returning to Star Trek Online. From April 24th to May 4th, on all platforms, players can head back into the Winter Event for all of the usual festive activities. There's even great news for players who didn't complete 2019's Winter Event.  Those players can take this opportunity to continue earning Daily Progress toward the T6 Fe'Ihri Fe'Range Dreadnought Carrier. Just for this special event, though, another prize has been offered. By turning in Ornaments collected in Event activities, players can earn a Lobi Package of 200 Lobi Crystals. This Lobi prize is claimable once per account. Polish up your frosted boots and sharpen your Klingon Ice Fishing Gauntlet, captains. We'll see you on the snow! STO Honors Medical Workers This past Saturday, April 18th, Star Trek Online invited all players to show their gratitude to medical workers around the world. Players responded by the hundreds, cramming instances of Deep Space Nine's upper promenade. Decked out in every Star Trek medical uniform you can imagine, and a few you probably can't, players stood shoulder to shoulder to hold a torch for those risking their health to help the suffering. To see screenshots from many players who joined the demonstration, Trek out Star Trek Online's Twitter account via the link in our show notes. Hector Ortiz draws the Summer Ships Over the past few weeks, four Star Trek Online development team members tested their skills at designing a Risian Science Vessel for the 2020 Summer Event. On April 15th, concept artist Hector Ortiz finally got his hands on those drawings. On a two hour live stream, which you can now view on STO's YouTube channel, Hector turned those rough sketches into more polished concepts. While two hours may not be enough for even Hector to create four fully complete concept art drawings, the results were amazing. If you're looking for something interesting to watch while you're at home this week, Trek out the video link in our show notes. And keep your eyes on STO's social media channels. When Hector has finished his concept drawings of all four ships, the final designs will be opened up for community voting. Ships of the Line: Akira On Tuesday,  Ambassador Kael posted a news blog announcing both a new type of C-Store bundle and an updated ship model to launch it. A brand new model and material for the Akira-Class Heavy Escort will be the first ship offered in the new “Ships of the Line” bundle. The bundle, which will cost 6000 Zen, will contain the T6 Alita Heavy Strike Wing Escort, the T5 Armitage Heavy Strike Wing Escort, the T3 Thunderchild Heavy Escort Refit, and one Fleet Ship Module. The new look for the Akira-Class is the most detailed and screen-accurate look for the ship yet, bringing it closer to its appearance in the film Star Trek: First Contact. For a short time, from April 23rd to April 30th at 10am Pacific Time, the new Akira bundle will  be 35% off in the C-Store. For those who already own one of these ship classes, the updated model is available freely in the Ship Customization screen. Thomas Marrone Talks with QueueTimes Thomas Marrone sat down recently with Eric Campbell from QueueTimes, the team that produces the Star Trek Adventures RPG show “Clear Skies”.  For an hour and a half, Cryptic's Lead Ship and UI Artist chatted about the game, his work, and the process of designing a brand new Galaxy-Class variant for “Clear Skies”. The interview is well worth a watch, so just follow the link. But towards the end of that stream, Thomas took a moment to tease STO players with the reveal of a brand new model for the beloved Klingon Bird of Prey. The new model looks far more detailed and accurate than any Bird of Prey currently in game, even including Klingon script of the ship's name on the wing. If you're in a hurry to see the new Bird of Prey, skip ahead in the video to the 1 hour 30 minute mark. EVENTS Starting on April 30th, PC players have an “Item Upgrade” weekend through May 4th. Star Trek Online's 10th Anniversary starts with a Cryptic message, another Star Trek game celebrates an anniversary and a retro Star Trek card game is still getting new expansions. Then we take a look at the latest Short Trek, Children of Mars. Finally, we open hailing frequencies and receive all of your incoming messages. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Questions Are: CQ: Which Star Trek news this week was most exciting to you? Why? AND CQ: Will you be purchasing the new Picard bundle? TREK IT OUT by Shane Hoover The Picard News Cycle Hits Warp 10 We're in the final week of waiting for Star Trek: Picard's January 23rd premier on CBS: All Access. If we thought that the hype was hitting high warp in the last couple of weeks, then I guess it has officially hit Warp 13 at this point. Because Picard news seems to be everywhere at once now.  For starters comes the news that the new Picard series, which hasn't streamed a single episode yet, has officially been renewed by CBS for a second season.  ViacomCBS Executive Vice President, Julie McNamara, cited the magnitude of excitement for the show's premiere as a driving reason for the renewal. Also announced this week, Picard's sister show “Star Trek: Discovery” has more quietly been green-lit for a fourth season.  This too, before an episode of Season 3 has been released. Sir Patrick Stewart Talks to NPR The obvious place to start would be with the Captain himself. Sir Patrick Stewart sat down last week for a chat with NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday program. As he has stated before, Stewart was initially not considering a return to the role of Jean Luc Picard, but he's now added some details to his thoughts on the matter. The political climate in the U.K. and the United States left Stewart feeling that the real world had become too distanced from Star Trek's Federation ideal. He specifically mentioned his disappointment, embarrassment, and even anger at the U.K.'s decision to leave the European Union, saying “The European Union always made me feel, well, we are heading towards our own Federation of Planets somewhere down the line, that will come about.” But, while sitting down with the show's producers, Picard was introduced to their vision for a Federation that's very different from the one Jean Luc was last seen defending. This Federation has leaned toward isolationism, and Picard has distanced himself.  The discussion was enough to change Stewart's mind and intensely spark his interest.  Stewart also let drop a mention that during or after the Romulan refugee crisis, Picard made some “errors of judgement; mistakes.” Speaking to what the character still has to offer viewers today, Sir Patrick highlighted the Captain's modesty, patience, and passion for humankind. He points out, “One of the great things about Jean Luc was he was a great listener and would only speak when he felt everyone had expressed what they believed. The crew of the Enterprise came to know that they were at liberty to speak the truth about what they believed and what they thought.” Stewart believes more people, particularly leaders, could stand to speak up about what they truly and passionately believe. Kurtzman and Kadin Speak to TrekCore.com From Sir Patrick Stewart, we shift our attention to Star Trek's franchise head, Alex Kurtzman. At a press tour in Pasadena, California, Kurtzman and producing partner Heather Kadin answered questions from Trek news website TrekCore.com. Asked about the lessons learned from the inaugural seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, he spoke about the importance of hearing the reactions and feedback of fans. “Before we lock things down it's terribly important to listen to fans, and hear what they like — and what they didn't respond to — or what wasn't clear. To make sure we're tacking accordingly. I learned when I started working in the ‘Star Trek' world that that's a really essential part of making these shows.”, said Kurtzman. Speaking to the state of the Star Trek universe as a whole, Heather Kadin mentioned the ongoing development of the Section 31 show, and the animated Lower Decks and Nickelodeon projects. The key question , she says “Is this [show] a unique space we haven't explored yet?”, and she hopes they continue to find those new avenues. Kurtzman offered up an intriguing new bit of news next, declaring that there are two more live action shows in the works that haven't even been announced. With Discovery viewer reaction hugely vocal, it can probably be assumed that one of those shows will be a show centered around Pike and Spock's Enterprise. We'll just have to speculate what the other unannounced show might be. Jeri Ryan Interviews with IGN The next in this week's series of Picard interviews is coverage of Jeri Ryan's chat with IGN. Speaking about where the new series finds Voyager's Seven of Nine, Ryan explains that Seven has seen a lot of “dark crap” in the last 20 years.  The universe is a mess, she says, and Seven holds Starfleet and the Federation largely responsible. As the story opens, Seven is working with a group of freedom fighters called the Fenris Rangers. Ryan says the group is trying to keep a semblance of order in the galaxy's mess.  Her path crosses with that of Jean Luc Picard, and Ryan says, “This is the first time that Seven and Picard actually meet. They know each other by reputation. And ... Seven's not on the 'Oh, he's a god' bandwagon I think, initially, when she meets him”.  Ryan's character was brought into the story because of Picard's fundamental relationship with the Borg. Alex Kurtzman has said that Seven of Nine organically grew into the story through her shared experiences as someone who had also been assimilated. The opportunity to explore that element of their lives, and what it means to them, presented compelling questions for the show. Marina Sirtis Speaks on Troi's Return As part of a Picard panel for the Television Critics Association, Marina Sirtis had the opportunity to address her return to the screen as The Next Generation's Deana Troi. The actress admits that TNG fans eager to find out all about the state of their favorite characters in Picard may be left short. She says viewers can expect to find out a little bit about Troi and Riker, but not everything. Sirtis also shared a humorous anecdote about joining the show.  It seems that when she spoke to the wardrobe department of Picard, they were unaware that Sirtis wore a wig and black contact lenses for her TNG costume. Luckily, the actress could bail them out. She says, “I was like, ‘Do you know what? I think I stole them so I think I have them. So let's just get the contact lenses cleaned because they've been sitting in a lens case for 15 years, and I have the wig.” Speaking generally about her return, Sirtis recalled comments made by Carrie Fisher on her return to Star Wars. She quoted Carrie saying “I'm a 60-year-old actress in Hollywood. People aren't exactly throwing scripts at me”, which is kind of the place I'm in.” With the humor Sirtis regularly displays at Trek conventions, she also pointed out her least favorite aspect of joining Picard - filming in HD - saying, “Really, the man who invented high definition cameras, and it was a man because a woman would never have invented it, right? May he rot in Hell for all eternity.” Noah Hawley Speaks About His Trek Movie Picard isn't the only Star Trek in the news this week, though! Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley spoke to Deadline this week about his upcoming Star Trek feature film. Interestingly, Hawley says it's not decided if his film will carry on with the cast of the recent Star Trek films by Bad Robot.  The project also might not be connected to the ongoing Trek universe of Alex Kurtzman and CBS. The filmmaker says, “I have my own take on Star Trek, and going back to what I loved about The Next Generation. When a lot of franchises focus on ‘might makes right', Star Trek is about exploration and humanity at its best, and diversity and creative problem solving.” He specifically called out the moment in Wrath of Khan when Captain Kirk stalls for time as they remotely lower the Reliant's shields. Those are the elements of Trek that he wants to reach.  Hawley says he still needs to write the script, and wants to be respectful to the underlying material. Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Anthony Cox Star Trek Online 10th Anniversary Begins with Cryptic Message With the 10th Anniversary of Star Trek Online right around the corner, many of us have been waiting for an announcement regarding the milestone event. Well, in a tweet dated January 14th, Star Trek Online shared a 10 Years of STO wallpaper featuring the Enterprise F and the Bortasqu Klingon Cruiser with a strange block of inserted text that read, “Hear me?” Even more mysterious was if you followed the link to the wallpaper and then clicked the wallpaper itself, you were taken to a completely different image. This one indicates a coded transmission and the saucer section of the Enterprise F with a series of characters where the registry number should have been. After being decoded through the ACII85 coding language, it translated to a phone number. Calling the phone number played a recording of the original series intro with a series of numbers spoken throughout. One of our own Patreon supporters, SFC, helped in linking the numbers to a hidden Cryptic blog post. This one contains a video that three more transmissions were coming and an audio recording of someone who seems to be given a recording device to make audio logs about their experiences. As of recording this episode it's not known who the voice belongs to or what they are experiencing. Trek out the show notes for links to the tweet and decoded audio transmission. STO Hypes up Picard with a New(?) Bundle In anticipation of Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek Online has announced a new Picard Bundle. And we use the term “new” loosely. The bundle is now available and includes all uniforms and variations from The Next Generation, including the All Good Things uniform from the series finale. It also includes the Privateer uniform Picard wears in the episodes Gambit parts one and two. The replica Thompson submachine gun is the only weapon in the bundle. However the bundle does include three starships, a Tier three Constellation class cruiser, complete with an updated visual skin, a tier five Galaxy exploration cruiser and upgrade token, and a Miradorn Raider. Which was previously only available from a lockbox. The Picard Bundle will set you back 12,000 zen, that is unless you purchase it between now and January 20th when it will be on sale for only 6,000 zen. Star Trek Online Updates In Memoriam As many Star Trek Online players noticed a few weeks ago the in memoriam plaques on Earth Space Dock, the Klingon First City, and New Romulus Command. If you haven't already we encourage you to take the time to visit these new installations, which are now columns lit-up in faction colors. Each one has a rotating list of names belonging to major contributors of the Star Trek franchise. Most recently adding Rene Auberjonois and Aaron Eisenberg. And if you're missing those two specific Star Trek performers, be sure to stop by Quark's Bar the next time you're on Deep Space Nine. Both Odo and Captain Nog are now sharing a conversation at the far end of the bar for players to join in on. Patch Notables The patch notes for PC had a few interesting things we wanted to mention. The devs have added item filtering and searching in all inventory windows. This includes personal inventory, bank inventory, account bank, etc. There are two new material types for the Guardian Cruiser. 8 and 8B, along with two new window types, five and six. They've resolved an issue with the Winter Event buyout not properly processing. And finally Ground Borg enemies will adapt slower to weapons that have a lot of tics per firing cycle.

This week on Priority One --- the marketing for Picard has reached warp speed, Space Force gets a new Trek-centric name, and a small town in Indiana wants to celebrate Voyager’s 25th anniversary. Finally, we open hailing frequencies and receive all of your incoming messages. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Questions Are: CQ: Have you seen “The Children of Mars”? What did you think? AND CQ: We also want to know what some of your favorite moments from the past ten years of Star Trek Online? TREK IT OUT by Shane Hoover Short Treks Trailer and Ties to Picard Several weeks before the premiere of Star Trek: Picard, in fact a day before this podcast is even published, CBS: All Access will have released the next Short Trek.  This Short Trek is titled “Children of Mars”, and it promises tantalizing connections to the upcoming Picard series. On January 2nd, CBS released a teaser trailer for the new short. In the teaser, we are introduced to 12 year-old classmates Kima and Lil.  The two girls attend a Federation school together, and we see several scenes of the pair picking on each other at school. As they both seem to be facing punishment for their misbehavior, the school is shocked by an emergency alert. A Vulcan faculty member with a worried expression watches something speed past overhead, and we see the frightened girls hold hands.  Now, there’s a bit to unpack in this 30 second teaser.  The first little easter egg that pops up is the arrival of the School Shuttle on screen. The 24th century school bus is none other than a very worn-looking Star Trek: Discovery era shuttlecraft. There’s little chance this has any meaning for Picard, but it’s a cute bit of ship recycling and a nod to the other show.  But the more interesting clues in the trailer are the ones that we can tie directly to the new Picard series. To begin with, there’s the title of the short, “Children of Mars”.  Additionally, there’s a fleeting moment in this trailer where a news program is visible on a large wall display behind the alarmed Vulcan teacher. As the Vulcan turns his head, a ship can be seen dashing across the screen. If you’ve been caught up on all of the Star Trek Picard teaser videos to date, there’s no mistaking that ship silhouette.   It is the same ship seen in several of the recent Picard trailers. These ships are seen approaching Mars in numbers. They’re seen firing weapons over a city while buildings erupt in balls of fire, as Picard’s voice declares “We face a powerful enemy.” They’re seen speeding past an exploding space station. Picard, either in flashback or real-time, is gripped by shock inside a starship lounge as Mars blooms with explosions outside the windows. It might seem like these ships are the attackers, but another Picard trailer throws a twist into the mix. Those ships we’ve seen in so much action are clearly marked with a large Starfleet insignia.  So the identity of Picard’s “powerful enemy” seems to remain a mystery for now. Is it the Borg? Is it a Romulan faction? Is it a new alien species? It looks very much as if this week’s Short Trek might finally give viewers an up close view of this mysterious enemy as they rain destruction on Mars. Whatever answers the Short Trek provides, you can bet we’ll be discussing it soon in an On Screen segment! The Space Force and SPOC While it seems unlikely to ever become what we know as Starfleet, the United States Space Force is now officially a reality. The sixth branch of U.S. armed services was established by December 20th’s National Defense Authorization Act.  And it seems that those in charge have a sense of humor, and just might be Trekkies! Because, according to a U.S. Air Force public affairs article, all of the 14th Air Force’s personnel have been officially reassigned to a new unit called Space Operations Command.  Yes, that’s SPOC for short. According to the article, the SPOC provides space capabilities such as space electronic warfare, satellite communications, missile warning, nuclear detonation detection, and lots of others to the US Space Force and other armed services. No word yet on whether this will be followed by a KIRK or SCOTTY division. Janeway Monument Reaches Fundraising Goals This year will mark the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Voyager, and a group of citizens in Bloomington, Indiana has achieved their hopes of celebrating the anniversary in a special way. Having met their crowdfunding goal of $12,500, the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective group will commission a monument to Voyager’s fearless captain, Kathryn Janeway.  Speaking about the achievement, co-leader of the effort, Peter Kaczmarcyk (KAZ - mar-sik), said “Since we announced we hit our goal, people just seem amazed that we pulled this off. We’re not the first people who had this idea, but we’re the first ones who really carried it through.” So, on May 23rd, shortly after the future birthday of Captain Janeway, a bust of the Starfleet captain will be installed to downtown Bloomington. Along with it, there will be a Starfleet delta-shaped limestone base and an informational table about the Captain. The Collective had originally planned to have the monument installed on May 20th, Janeway’s birthday.  But the overwhelming number of people wishing to attend caused them to reschedule for the following weekend. The community will also celebrate the event with other events all week, like a “Science of Star Trek” event at the local science museum. The group has contacted CBS to help convince Kate Mulgrew to attend the event in honor of her famous role, but no promises have been forthcoming. To find out more about the event, follow the link in our show notes. Ocasio-Cortez Gets a Dog Our last story is a little bit silly, and a little bit fun. It certainly seems like Star Trek has stepped into the light in the halls of Washington, D.C.  Last year, Trekkies were abuzz about Senator Cory Booker’s declaration of love for Star Trek at San Diego Comic Con. And this week another elected representative in Washington has teased her own Trekkie inclinations. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez posted to Instagram to happily reveal that she has adopted a puppy, declaring that she’s /QUOTE/ thinking something Star Trek related or Bronx/Queens/NYC/social good related. /ENDQUOTE/ for the new pup’s name. While it’s really just a heartwarming little bit of news fluff, it does bring to mind a couple of interesting questions. From a cynic’s perspective, does the Star Trek name dropping on Capitol Hill now just imply that Trekkies have become an important voting bloc? Are candidates actually wooing Star Trek voters, now? Or, more earnestly, what does it mean that the representatives in Washington are Trekkies just like us? Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Anthony Cox Borg Resurgence Featured TFO Event The announcement arrived during our winter break, and the official details for the Borg Resurgence event are here. Having begun this past Tuesday, January 7th and will run for three weeks, brings remastered versions of Infected: The Conduit, Khitomer Vortex, and Into the Hive. DPS chasers take note, Content Designer John Hegner, says in the announcement blog that Infected will still be a viable DPS check with some wonderful new voiceover. The goal for the remastering was to make these TFOs streamlined and more accessible to new players, with clearly defined success and fail conditions. You can complete any of these three TFOs to earn your daily progress, and once you’ve completed these for 14 days you’ll receive a set of the Cyclical Modulation Ground Weapons. Which includes a Compression Pistol, Sniper Rifle, and Blast Assault. These weapons have a unique tertiary attack that when activated cycles the energy type it is firing while gaining shield  and resistance penetration buffs. These weapons also feature a brand new appearance. As we mentioned previously this will be the final event in the Free Tier 6 ship coupon campaign and there will be the usual Zen buyout option available. Star Trek Online Asking for Your Favorite Moments At the end of this month Star Trek Online will begin its tenth anniversary celebration. While we don’t have any details on this major event Star Trek Online is asking fans to share their favorite memory from the past ten years. You can do that by using the hashtag TenYearsofSTO on Twitter and Facebook. Clear Skies Announces Star Trek Online Partnership Clear Skies, the Star Trek RPG show from the creators and cast of Shield of Tomorrow, streamed a Roundtable Q&A this past week and made a few announcements. Towards the end of the discussion it was revealed what their partnership with Star Trek Online would entail. The new show will take place aboard the USS Ross, named after the first Native American Engineer, Mary G. Ross, and the ship design will be an original design from Star Trek Online’s Thomas Marrone. The ship will be a variant of the Galaxy class and the design will be an available skin in Star Trek Online sometime in the near future. They’ve resolved an issue with the Winter Event buyout not properly processing. And finally Ground Borg enemies will adapt slower to weapons that have a lot of tics per firing cycle. EVENTS PC: Junior Officer Weekend Captains on PC can rank up those Commendations with a Junior Officer Weekend January 16th thru the 20th. Console: Tholian Red Alert And Console Captains can fend off the Tholians in a Tholian Red Alert weekend from now until Monday, January 13th. Tribbles and Bits - new ongoing weekly event - we want to hear from you - so each week, we are going to ask a random question about Star Trek and about STO and we want your responses. While there’s three different versions depending on your ground build flavor, they each have a special third attack that replaces the melee attack and cycles the weapon through all of the different energy weapon types. Now it’s possible that this may not be the weapon for you. Or at least not something your captain plans on keeping equipped. But we do want to mention one good reason to grind out the daily progress to acquire these unique weapons. Often times we get presented with a personal endeavour to complete that requires a specific ground energy weapon type. If you’re like me, I like to stick as close to canon immersion as possible. So my Feds have phasers, Klingons and Romulans carry disruptors, you get the idea. So completing a Tetryon endeavour can be a bit bothersome. Well, with this jack-of-all-energy types I can just cycle to the type I need for the endeavour and finish it right up! So go out there and get the new shiny. It may just come in handy sooner than you think. Other Gaming News Star Trek Bridge Crew Now Available for Oculus Quest The popular VR game, Star Trek Bridge Crew puts you and three of your starfleet crewmates in command of the bridge of a Federation starship, whether it’s the bridge of the original 1701 Enterprise, a Kelvin universe starship, or the 1701-D bridge. This week on Priority One --- the marketing for Picard has reached warp speed, Space Force gets a new Trek-centric name, and a small town in Indiana wants to celebrate Voyager's 25th anniversary. In Star Trek Online and gaming news… the Borg have resurged! The Clear Skies RPG show announces its STO partnership, and Star Trek Bridge Crew arrives on a new system. Finally, we open hailing frequencies and receive all of your incoming messages. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! Now, there's a bit to unpack in this 30 second teaser.  The first little easter egg that pops up is the arrival of the School Shuttle on screen. The 24th century school bus is none other than a very worn-looking Star Trek: Discovery era shuttlecraft. There's little chance this has any meaning for Picard, but it's a cute bit of ship recycling and a nod to the other show.  But the more interesting clues in the trailer are the ones that we can tie directly to the new Picard series. To begin with, there's the title of the short, “Children of Mars”.  Additionally, there's a fleeting moment in this trailer where a news program is visible on a large wall display behind the alarmed Vulcan teacher. As the Vulcan turns his head, a ship can be seen dashing across the screen. If you've been caught up on all of the Star Trek Picard teaser videos to date, there's no mistaking that ship silhouette.   It is the same ship seen in several of the recent Picard trailers. These ships are seen approaching Mars in numbers. They're seen firing weapons over a city while buildings erupt in balls of fire, as Picard's voice declares “We face a powerful enemy.” They're seen speeding past an exploding space station. Picard, either in flashback or real-time, is gripped by shock inside a starship lounge as Mars blooms with explosions outside the windows. It might seem like these ships are the attackers, but another Picard trailer throws a twist into the mix. Those ships we've seen in so much action are clearly marked with a large Starfleet insignia.  So the identity of Picard's “powerful enemy” seems to remain a mystery for now. Is it the Borg? Is it a Romulan faction? Is it a new alien species? It looks very much as if this week's Short Trek might finally give viewers an up close view of this mysterious enemy as they rain destruction on Mars. Whatever answers the Short Trek provides, you can bet we'll be discussing it soon in an On Screen segment! The Space Force and SPOC While it seems unlikely to ever become what we know as Starfleet, the United States Space Force is now officially a reality. The sixth branch of U.S. armed services was established by December 20th's National Defense Authorization Act.  And it seems that those in charge have a sense of humor, and just might be Trekkies! Because, according to a U.S. Air Force public affairs article, all of the 14th Air Force's personnel have been officially reassigned to a new unit called Space Operations Command.  Yes, that's SPOC for short. Having met their crowdfunding goal of $12,500, the Captain Janeway Bloomington Collective group will commission a monument to Voyager's fearless captain, Kathryn Janeway.  Speaking about the achievement, co-leader of the effort, Peter Kaczmarcyk (KAZ - mar-sik), said “Since we announced we hit our goal, people just seem amazed that we pulled this off. We're not the first people who had this idea, but we're the first ones who really carried it through.” So, on May 23rd, shortly after the future birthday of Captain Janeway, a bust of the Starfleet captain will be installed to downtown Bloomington. Along with it, there will be a Starfleet delta-shaped limestone base and an informational table about the Captain. The Collective had originally planned to have the monument installed on May 20th, Janeway's birthday. Last year, Trekkies were abuzz about Senator Cory Booker's declaration of love for Star Trek at San Diego Comic Con. And this week another elected representative in Washington has teased her own Trekkie inclinations. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez posted to Instagram to happily reveal that she has adopted a puppy, declaring that she's /QUOTE/ thinking something Star Trek related or Bronx/Queens/NYC/social good related. /ENDQUOTE/ for the new pup's name. While it's really just a heartwarming little bit of news fluff, it does bring to mind a couple of interesting questions. From a cynic's perspective, does the Star Trek name dropping on Capitol Hill now just imply that Trekkies have become an important voting bloc? Are candidates actually wooing Star Trek voters, now? Or, more earnestly, what does it mean that the representatives in Washington are Trekkies just like us? TREK IT OUT by Shane Hoover Star Trek Command Training Program It is hard to deny, at this point, that Star Trek programming has entered into a new Renaissance. With so many new shows currently in production, most every Trek fan can find something to be excited about.  But, if you're an undergraduate or graduate student, this week's news from CBS may be the most exciting yet. CBS Television Studios and the Television Academy Foundation have announced the “Star Trek Command Training Program”.  The new program will provide internship placements on a Star Trek series for two lucky students per semester, starting in 2020. If you've ever dreamed of sitting in the writers' room, building bridge sets, or maybe being part of the Lower Decks animation team, then this could be your ticket into the crew. Speaking about the program, Star Trek EP Alex Kurtzman said, “The Star Trek universe is an ideal place to celebrate new voices and perspectives. We want to provide the framework to begin entertainment careers in a meaningful way and can't wait to get started.” The application process will be handled by The Academy Foundation, while CBS Television will handle mentorship assignments and curriculum. Interested students should visit TelevisionAcademy.com/internships to apply. Applications are open through January 21, 2020 for eligible college students 18 and over. Colm Meaney Honored Veteran Star Trek actor Colm Meaney was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award this past week at the annual Irish Post Awards. The Awards honor the accomplishments of Irish individuals in fields like business, entertainment, and sports. We, of course, are familiar with Meaney for his 225 Star Trek appearances.  His career as Starfleet engineer Miles O'Brien is second only to Michael Dorn's Worf for Trek appearances. The versatile actor has also appeared in an impressive body of other TV and film projects, with IMDB listing 127 acting credits to his name. When interviewed after the Awards, Mr. Meaney himself mused, “I enjoyed Star Trek. I did it for seven years. Seven years in a space suit was enough, but it was very enjoyable. Star Trek fans still speak to me in the street. Sometimes it's like I'm two different actors with two different careers - the Star Trek career and the other career” Speaking of the award itself, the actor said, ”I feel very honoured. It was a bit of a surprise but a very welcome one.” Official Star Trek Timeline The official Star Trek website also published an interesting new video this week. The video is titled “A Timeline Through the Star Trek Universe, Part 1”. Throughout the 2 minute, 5 second video, we're reminded of touchstone events in the Star Trek timeline. Beginning with the events of Voyager's “Death Wish” at 13.8 billion years ago, the chart carries right through the busy 23rd and 24th centuries, up to the destruction of Romulus in 2387. Each iteration of Star Trek on the big or small screen is represented, with special mention given to certain high profile events like the founding of the Federation, the Enterprise's 5 year mission, or the Dominion War. Perhaps most intriguingly, the video ends with the promise of “To Be Continued…” Star Trek 4 Speaking of adding to the canon timeline… Star Trek Kelvin 4 is gaining momentum --- FOR REAL THIS TIME. In an exclusive report by Deadline, Noah Hawley has been announced as its writer AND director. For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Hawley developed the X-Men Universe spinoff “Legion” and is the brains behind FX's Emmy-winning limited series Fargo…. Now, not much is else is known with respect to story or production timetables but, at least we know the production is -- officially -- in the works. But, what about all this Tarantino talk that we just can't avoid??... Well according to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr //quote// The studio separately is working on a Star Trek spinoff that Quentin Tarantino is eyeing to direct and has been working on with Abrams. This one would likely carry an R rating, with a screenplay by The Revenant scribe Mark L. Smith.//end quote// Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Anthony Cox Dr. Robert Hurt visit the Star Trek Discovery VR Experience A Closer Look at the Earhart and Sech Strike Wing Escorts This weekend a few of us in the Armada had a chance to try out the new Strike Wing Escorts and must say, I really enjoy them. Since I prefer to fly escorts, I rarely fly ships that have hangar pets - but I like the combination of a fast ship with some extra friends around to help out. Also, the console, Universal Gravimetric Disruptions - is an excellent addition to any control builds out there. It provides a slight boost to Energy Damage and Control Expertise - but also - it affects multiple enemies. So if you like grouping up your enemies and making them explode - highly recommended! Welcome to Mudd's Market If you've been playing Star Trek Online for a long time then you're lucky enough to have had the opportunity to acquire a plethora of limited-time rewards. Back in olden days of feature episode missions and big expansion story arcs, if you played the featured missions within a certain time frame you were able to get some pretty cool items. Attending conventions, special events, or even donating to charities would deliver in-game rewards that available nowhere else. Well, thanks to Star Trek's mischievous merchant, Harcourt Fenton Mudd, some of those highly sought after exclusive items are making their way to a Zen market near you. On November 22nd “Mudd's Market” will open in the C-store with a selection of previously exclusive or limited items. The opening round of items will include The Beacon Kahless, the Crystalline Antiproton Energy Weapons, and Bio-engineered Furiadon Combat Dino with frickin' lasers. All of these items will come bundled with an Ultimate Tech Upgrade. Also available will be the Vizier-class Command Assault Cruiser, The Ophidian Cane, Shard of Possibilities, Reman and Breen Bridge officers, the EMH Holographic Bridge officer, Leeta holographic bridge officer, and the Original Series Holographic bridge officers. The items available in Mudd's Market will change at times and there are sure to be some surprise discounts. So it's encouraged that you check the C-store daily. 2019 Winter Wonderland Ship Reward Revealed Once again we're getting a sneak peek at the next event. A new tab has appeared in the Event UI for the Winter Wonderland event. Including an image and details for the new Tier 6 Fek'Ihri Dreadnaught carrier. Featuring a Lt. Commander Science/Miracle Worker bridge officer station and coming with a whopping 5 tactical console slots, this fearsome sail barge comes with the universal console, Open the Maw of Gethor. When activated, and we're not making this up, the ship projects a flaming skull in front of the ship dealing fire damage to all nearby foes and launching Lost Souls of Grethor. This carrier comes with two hangar slots from which you can launch more Lost Souls of Grethor, each one using Claw Swipes and Flame Breath to damage enemies. After achieving level 5 ship mastery you will unlock “Fiery Entrance. When activating Narrow Sensor Bands or launching Hangar pets, your ship will, of course, emit a burning ring of fire dealing damage to nearby foes with a chance to confuse them. At the time of this recording, there has been no official blog post detailing the ship, however, as of right now you can log into the game and view the stats and details under the Winter Event tab. PRIORITY ONE ARMADA NEWS Join us for TFO Tuesday - each tuesday we team up with other Armada members to earn marks and dilithium.  If you're interested in joining the Senior Staff for the Console Fleet - please reach out to us via priorityonearmada.com Winter Giveaway The Gamma Fleet Tier V Colony upgrade will be complete in a couple days - well done Gamma Fleet! If you're interested in joining The Klingon High Council fleet, you can submit an application to join on the armada website. WEEKLY TOP TIP Running patrols seems to be a fast and fun way to level up your event progress. It can be even faster when you're running the “Blockade” patrol. After you set up the beacon you'll need to defend three groups of Krenim ships from Vadwaur and Voth. Well, as the contact says, if you only destroy the Vaadwaur the Voth might leave. And that's exactly what happens. By focusing on taking out just the Vaadwaur ships you can cut your targets for the mission almost in half. As soon as the last Vaadwaur ship is destroyed in each group the Voth ships disappear. Just imagine how much time you'll save over the course this feature event. And if you want to run these patrols at a high difficulty level, this can make your runs a little smoother. Other Gaming News Star Trek Fleet Command Mirror, Mirror Event Star Trek Fleet Command is bringing the Mirror Universe into the Kelvin Timeline. The “Mirror, Mirror” event last from now until November 29th and features Terran Empire versions of Kirk, Spock, and Uhura that are obtainable by participating solo and alliance missions. Also included in this event is the opportunity to acquire blueprints to build your very own ISS Jellyfish ship. When playing through the Mirror, Mirror missions you'll also have the option to experience alternate endings. The choice is yours. Trek out the show notes for more details on the event. Retro Gaming Star Trek The Next Generation for Game Boy Earth date September 1993. Star Trek The Next Generation is heading into its seventh and final season. Star Trek Deep Space Nine premiered earlier in the year and now starts its second season. Star Trek's golden age was at its height on the small screen. Then there's the smallest screen. The Nintendo Game Boy. The OG black and yellow 160 pixel by 144 pixel 8-bit gaming brick of happiness. Star Trek TNG for both Game Boy and the NES also released during September of 1993. And boy or boy did this game have one little trekkie beaming with joy. Players take on the role of a Starfleet cadet being instructed by Jean-Luc Picard as they take command of the Enterprise-D and embark on a series of training missions. Everything from transporting an ambassador to rescuing a crew to engaging in combat with the Borg. As the acting captain you give commands through interacting with each bridge crew member by selecting their combadge. To complete shipboard tasks like establishing a standard orbit or diverting power to the shields, you play various mini-games. As you complete missions you rank up and will unlock passwords that can be used to pick up your progress where you left off. I played this exclusively on the Game Boy, but I've heard that the NES version is a little easier to play. The graphics are not the best for the time, and the gameplay can feel clunky and not very intuitive. But at a time when the only other mobile Star Trek video games had you flying the Enterprise through an asteroid field, this was the first game that you felt like you were in the Captain's chair.  So how can you play this game today? Well, you could of course download an emulator on your computer or phone. I actually have something called a Smartboy from Hyperkin. It's basically the lower half of a Game Boy with the the control buttons that you slide your USB-C phone into. You run an emulator on your phone, but you can actually plug a real cartridge into the back and play the game from the physical Game Boy cartridge on your phone screen. I love this because it feel like a Game Boy in my hands, but with a bright colorful screen. But the best option in my opinion is to purchase a Game Boy Advance SP. These are the first clamshell looking Nintendo handheld consoles, and the first with a backlit LCD screen. It plays both Game Boy Advance games

For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Hawley developed the X-Men Universe spinoff “Legion” and is the brains behind FX’s Emmy-winning limited series Fargo…. Now, not much is else is known with respect to story or production timetables but, at least we know the production is -- officially -- in the works. But, what about all this Tarantino talk that we just can’t avoid??... Well according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr //quote// The studio separately is working on a Star Trek spinoff that Quentin Tarantino is eyeing to direct and has been working on with Abrams. Welcome to Mudd’s Market If you’ve been playing Star Trek Online for a long time then you’re lucky enough to have had the opportunity to acquire a plethora of limited-time rewards. Back in olden days of feature episode missions and big expansion story arcs, if you played the featured missions within a certain time frame you were able to get some pretty cool items. Attending conventions, special events, or even donating to charities would deliver in-game rewards that available nowhere else. Well, thanks to Star Trek’s mischievous merchant, Harcourt Fenton Mudd, some of those highly sought after exclusive items are making their way to a Zen market near you. On November 22nd “Mudd’s Market” will open in the C-store with a selection of previously exclusive or limited items. The opening round of items will include The Beacon Kahless, the Crystalline Antiproton Energy Weapons, and Bio-engineered Furiadon Combat Dino with frickin’ lasers. The items available in Mudd’s Market will change at times and there are sure to be some surprise discounts. So it’s encouraged that you check the C-store daily. 2019 Winter Wonderland Ship Reward Revealed Once again we’re getting a sneak peek at the next event. A new tab has appeared in the Event UI for the Winter Wonderland event. Including an image and details for the new Tier 6 Fek’Ihri Dreadnaught carrier. Featuring a Lt. Commander Science/Miracle Worker bridge officer station and coming with a whopping 5 tactical console slots, this fearsome sail barge comes with the universal console, Open the Maw of Gethor. When activated, and we’re not making this up, the ship projects a flaming skull in front of the ship dealing fire damage to all nearby foes and launching Lost Souls of Grethor. WEEKLY TOP TIP Running patrols seems to be a fast and fun way to level up your event progress. It can be even faster when you’re running the “Blockade” patrol. After you set up the beacon you’ll need to defend three groups of Krenim ships from Vadwaur and Voth. Well, as the contact says, if you only destroy the Vaadwaur the Voth might leave. And that’s exactly what happens. By focusing on taking out just the Vaadwaur ships you can cut your targets for the mission almost in half. As soon as the last Vaadwaur ship is destroyed in each group the Voth ships disappear. Just imagine how much time you’ll save over the course this feature event. When playing through the Mirror, Mirror missions you’ll also have the option to experience alternate endings. Star Trek’s golden age was at its height on the small screen. Then there’s the smallest screen. I played this exclusively on the Game Boy, but I’ve heard that the NES version is a little easier to play. The graphics are not the best for the time, and the gameplay can feel clunky and not very intuitive. But at a time when the only other mobile Star Trek video games had you flying the Enterprise through an asteroid field, this was the first game that you felt like you were in the Captain’s chair.  So how can you play this game today? Well, you could of course download an emulator on your computer or phone. I actually have something called a Smartboy from Hyperkin. It’s basically the lower half of a Game Boy with the the control buttons that you slide your USB-C phone into.
