Breaking Down Internalized Ableism  Summary In this conversation, Patricia explores the concept of internalized ableism, particularly among neurodivergent individuals. She discusses how societal stigma and expectations can lead to negative self-perceptions and feelings of inadequacy. Patricia shares personal experiences and insights on how internalized ableism manifests in various aspects of life, including relationships, self-acceptance, and the pressure to conform to neurotypical standards. She emphasizes the importance of unlearning these hurtful beliefs and embracing one's neurodivergent identity with compassion and understanding.   HIGHLIGHTS   ·       Internalized ableism is the unconscious adoption of negative beliefs about oneself due to societal stigma. ·       Neurodivergent individuals often feel pressure to conform to neurotypical standards, which can lead to trauma. ·       Resting is a valid need and should not be seen as a failure. ·       Asking for accommodations is essential for well-being and should not induce guilt. ·       The concept of 'high functioning' can be harmful and does not reflect true capabilities. ·       Time agnosia is a common experience for neurodivergent individuals. ·       Self-compassion is crucial in overcoming internalized ableism. ·       Relationships can be affected by the fear of being a burden. ·       Unlearning internalized ableism involves recognizing and challenging societal expectations. ·       Embracing neurodivergence includes acknowledging strengths and practicing self-acceptance. 115 SPECIFIC POINTS DISCUSSED 1.     How internalized ableism shows up in everyday life o   Masking, pushing through burnout, or feeling "lazy" when you're resting. 2.     Messages we absorbed growing up o   From school, parents, peers, or media about being "too much," "distracted," "weird," or "wrong." 3.     Perfectionism and people-pleasing as survival o   How needing to be “better” or “easy to manage” is often rooted in internalized shame. 4.     The trap of “not disabled enough” or “faking it” o   How we invalidate our own struggles because we don't “look” stereotypically disabled. 5.     ADHD, autism, OCD & “high-functioning” narratives o   The myth of being “high functioning” and how it reinforces ableist expectations. 6.     Feeling guilt for needing accommodations or rest o   That voice that says “you're being difficult” when you ask for what you actually need. 7.     Shame around executive dysfunction o   Struggling to start tasks, follow through, or manage time — and blaming yourself. 8.     Rejecting your own needs to fit in o   Forcing eye contact, avoiding stimming, hiding rituals, not using noise-canceling headphones in public, etc. 9.     The pressure to be “independent” all the time o   How internalized capitalism + ableism equates needing support with being a failure. 10.  Comparing yourself to neurotypical peers ·       Especially in productivity, relationships, or emotional regulation. 11.  “If I can do it sometimes, I should always be able to” myth ·       Inconsistent ability = inconsistent worth? Nope. Talk about spoon theory and fluctuating capacity. 12.  How OCD-specific traits are misunderstood or mocked ·       And how that seeps into how you see yourself (e.g., feeling “crazy,” “irrational,” or “a burden”). 13.  Internalized ableism in dating & relationships ·       Fear of being too much, too emotional, or too rigid — and minimizing yourself as a result. 14.  How healing looks like reclaiming your needs unapologetically ·       Self-accommodation, boundaries, rest, and neurodivergent joy as rebellion. 15.  Relearning self-compassion and identity pride ·       Ending with hope: unmasking, connecting with community, and defining success on your own terms.    SOUND BITES ·       "Rest is resistance." ·       "You are not broken." ·       "You deserve rest, joy, and support."    SENSITIVITY IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR; IT'S HOW YOUR BRAIN IS WIRED You are not broken. You were shaped by systems that weren't built for you. You deserve rest, joy, and support exactly as you are.    CHAPTERS (please add time for addition of introduction) 00:00 Understanding Internalized Ableism 02:40 The Impact of Societal Expectations 05:31 Navigating Personal Experiences with Internalized Ableism 08:18 The Struggle for Accommodations 10:55 Executive Dysfunction and Inconsistent Abilities 14:01 The Pressure of Productivity 16:53 Feeling 'Not Enough' in Neurodivergence 19:43 Unlearning Internalized Ableism 22:27 Building Self-Compassion and Acceptance  PODCAST HOST Patricia was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 17 years, but she is now exclusively providing coaching. What if you could eliminate sales resistance before it even starts? Most business leaders think they need better closing techniques or flashier presentations to increase sales. But Nancy Zare, organizational development expert, discovered something shocking: The biggest barrier to sales isn't your product—it's speaking the wrong language to your prospects. The $10,000 Mistake Most CEOs Make Daily You're probably treating prospects how YOU want to be treated. Big mistake. Nancy's research reveals four distinct buyer types, each requiring completely different approaches: The "2" Buyer: Needs 1-2 touchpoints, makes quick decisions (spot them by their confident, almost smug smile)The "4" Buyer: Relationship-focused, needs 2-3 touchpoints (warm, genuine smile gives them away)The "6" Buyer: Analytical, requires 6+ touchpoints (reserved, formal expressions)The "8" Buyer: Thorough researchers who need extensive information (uncomfortable smiles, cautious expressions) The LinkedIn Profile Hack That Reveals Everything Nancy shows you how to decode prospects in under 60 seconds using social media clues—including the type of smile in their profile photo. Yes, really. This isn't personality profiling; it's sales intelligence. Why Your Best Salespeople Are Burning Out Here's the kicker: You're probably forcing your entire team to use the same sales process for completely different buyer types. No wonder your conversion rates are inconsistent. The result? Longer sales cycles, more objections, and frustrated prospects who buy from competitors who "just get them." The Platinum Rule That's Crushing the Golden Rule Forget treating others how you want to be treated. Nancy's "Likability System" flips this on its head: Treat others how THEY want to be treated. This isn't about manipulation—it's about respect. And respect converts. What You'll Discover: ✅ The 6 criteria for instantly assessing someone's communication style  ✅ Why traditional sales training fails 75% of prospects  ✅ The smile decoder that reveals decision-making patterns  ✅ Time management systems that match your personality type (not everyone works like Stephen Covey)  ✅ Why building relationships beats closing techniques every single time The Bottom Line Nancy's clients report dramatic improvements in conversion rates, shorter sales cycles, and—here's the surprise—happier prospects who actually thank them for the sales process. Ready to stop guessing and start systematically reading your prospects? Get Nancy's 5-Minute Likability System: [Link in show notes] Connect with Nancy: NancyZare.com | LinkedIn Want the Magnetic Systems Method? Trump fired a key official after she delivered some bad news about jobs numbers. Courtenay Brown with Axios explains what that means for the credibility of government statistics, and unpacks what we learned about the U.S. economy from last week’s flurry of news. As Trump pushes for an end to the war in Ukraine, many thousands of children taken from the country to Russia are still missing. Simon Shuster, a senior correspondent at Time, joins to discuss his reporting. It’s been one month since severe rain and flash floods overwhelmed Texas Hill Country and killed at least 135 people. During public hearings, state lawmakers have scrutinized the official disaster response and heard from survivors. Emily Foxhall with the Texas Tribune unpacks the key takeaways. Plus, Hamas released videos of emaciated Israeli hostages, why state lawmakers in Texas are temporarily fleeing, and the Russian region shaken by an earthquake is now contending with a volcano. Today’s episode was hosted by Shumita Basu. Correction: President Trump’s new tariffs will take effect on Thursday, Aug. 7. A previous version of this episode said they will take effect on Friday, Aug. 8.

Habits 2 Goals: The Habit Factor® Podcast with Martin Grunburg | Goal Achievement, Productivity & Success – Simplified

On July 8th, in what can only be described as an act of reckless clarity, we published a white paper (grab it here—>) Unified Behavioral Model™ — Read more… listen now.Subscribe now“Science may be described as the art of systematic oversimplification.” ― Karl PopperWhat makes UBM so unique—so different from prevalent behavioral models?First, let's clear up a common misconception:UBM—specifically the Behavior Echo-System (BES)—is a model of behavior, not a model of a person.People often see the graphic and assume it represents themselves, or a diagram of the human body. It doesn't.As Dr. Popper's statement above suggests, UBM simply articulates how behavior is influenced in the moment and shaped over time—within the system. Now, here's the B.I.G. claim:UBM is falsifiable. In science, that's the gold standard.(Period.)If a theory can't be tested or broken, it's just storytelling. Worse yet, Karl Popper would say it's non-science.What's his core claim? Science and non-science are divided by a single demarcation: Falsifiability.UBM asks—check that, insists—“Go for it… Please try to break me.”Apparently, no other behavior model—certainly not a unified one—has ever done that.Kind of interesting? Maybe just a bit?Worth mentioning, at least?Or dedicating, I don't know… twenty-plus years to uncovering?UBM/BES Comparison Table & Major Prevalent Models as provided by DeepSeek.According to Dr. Karl Popper—and as noted in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, “Karl Popper is generally regarded as one of the greatest philosophers of science of the twentieth century”—if a theory can't be tested (or broken), it's just storytelling. Worse, he'd call it “non-science.”Just to be clear: that's Dr. Popper, philosopher and trained psychologist, who introduced the idea of falsifiability (and gave us that delightful bit with the Black Swan). So yeah—if you can't at least attempt to break it, he says, it doesn't count.UBM is so confident in its falsifiability that it's offering a $1,000 reward to the first person to prove there's a missing fifth element—one that isn't reducible or emergent. (See below and bottom for official entry details.)So far: nearly 500 downloads and…Nada. Zip. Zilch. NOTHING.Even the world's top AIs—ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek—took their shots. They've all struck out. Attempts include: Time (environmental), Consciousness (emergent from the system), Willpower (embodied environment), Self-Organization (embodied environment—note the “self” in self-organization).The list goes on, and it's kind of funny. Google's Gemini, for example, offered a “someday” quantum property we don't even know of yet.Seriously.Just to be clear: if we don't know of it yet, and we can't test it—it's not a valid fifth element.DeepSeek's parting words? Also comical...“UBM 1. DS 0... Game respects game.”And, here's Gemini's best response after half dozen attempts…Gemini tries desperately to break the Unified Behavior Model and fails. The difficulty in falsification, as intended by the model's design, is a powerful indicator of its conceptual strength and it's potential to serve as a TRULY UNIFYING FRAMEWORK FOR BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE. ~Gemini 8/4/2025Some have argued, “Well, UBM is overly simplified.”Really? Then why hasn't anyone discovered it before—or more accurately, uncovered it and brought it to light?Surely, by now—150 years in—some behavioral scientist, somewhere in the world, would've presented this kind of systematic “oversimplification,” right?Let's go over that one more time:“Science may be described as the art of systematic oversimplification.” ― Karl PopperThis is precisely Dr. Popper's point: science progresses by oversimplifying—systematically.Voila: UBM.

I can't quite believe it, but here we are — the 800th episode of the Tough Girl Podcast! In this special solo episode, I'm taking you behind the scenes for a personal catch-up and reflection on everything that's happened so far in 2025 — from January through to August. I talk about what life has looked like lately (yes, still living at home with my parents!), working part-time at AIM Health, the adventures I've been on, the challenges I've faced, and the exciting things coming up next. This episode is a bit of everything: gear chat (flat-lay photos and a new Atom Pack!), health updates (peri-menopause, gut health, strength training, and more), financial planning (Patreon, pensions, broken laptops!), plus reflections on my time walking the English Camino, Snowdonia Slate Trail, and tackling the GR20 in Corsica — which was honestly tougher than the Marathon des Sables. I'm also talking about my motivations for taking on the GR10, what I've learned in 10 years of podcasting, and why the mission — to increase the amount of female role models in the media especially in relation to adventure and physical challenges— is stronger than ever. Thank you for being here with me on this journey. Whether you've listened from the start or are just finding the show now, I'm so incredibly grateful. This is a celebration of us — of consistency, resilience, growth, and dreaming big.

Digital monsters, handheld mayhem, and nostalgic button-mashing collide! Prepare to jack into the Digital World as Play Comics takes a pixelated punch at Digimon Battle Spirit on the Game Boy Advance. This portable fighting game promised to capture all the Agumon-punching, Gabumon-grappling action of the beloved anime and manga series, but did it deliver a champion-level experience or just leave us saying “that's not very digivolving of you”? Joining us for this pocket-sized digital duel is Joshua Moore, the brilliant mind behind Morphenomenal: How the Power Rangers Conquered the World. Together, we'll explore whether this GBA gem successfully translated the franchise's monster-battling essence into something more substantial than a Rookie-level disappointment, or if it left players feeling like they'd been banished to the Dark Area of gaming history. So dust off that Game Boy Advance, charge up your Digivice, and prepare for some serious handheld heroics! Will Digimon Battle Spirit prove itself worthy of the Crest of Gaming Excellence, or will we discover it's about as useful as a chocolate D-3 device? Time to find out if this digital adventure was truly the digimon we deserved, or just another case of “close enough” licensing magic! Learn such things as: Can a game be both the best and worst thing ever? How do you connect different eras of a series that are only loosely connected anyway? Will Chris ever be able to make a Digimon episode without bringing up Pokemon? And so much more! In a column for PJ Media, publicist and novelist Scott Pinsker wrote that there are no happy endings. As readers and listeners, we never want a good story to end. Here is what Scott wrote:One more time: There are no happy endings! After all, when a story is truly great, we don't want it to end. We need the story to go on and on forever — and for the adventures to continue. When it's finally time to say goodbye, we mourn the loss. And mourning isn't happy. But it's par for the course in storytelling; the immoveable yin to the irresistible yang. Can't have one without the other. As American genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist Tony Stark noted before his death:“Part of the journey is the end.”I remember when the hand-picked substitute author massacred the ending of The World of Time series by Robert Jordan. There were and are so many stories still to tell of that world, but the replacement author simply let the story peter away. So disappointing. But, of course, he didn't have the inspiration or vision that the original author had. He couldn't tell the stories. BUT the publisher should have found some fans that would have loved to continue those stories, to continue celebrating an incredible world populated by very interesting people. I hope there are some fans that will tell those stories. They have my permission — and encouragement — to do so.As authors, we should all have fans that are inspired to continue telling our stories — whether fiction or nonfiction.Stories are always worth continuing. They shouldn't have an end. Why not tell more of your story today? You have the time! And when your time ends, I encourage other courageous writers to continue your stories. Stories without end. Stories that live on and on. Stories that change lives. Stories that move us to greater things.Move on! This is a public episode. Dive into the chilling depths of one of America's most enduring UFO mysteries.  If you're hooked on West Virginia cryptids like the Mothman, Bigfoot, or Grafton Monster, or fascinated by 1950s UFO sightings, alien encounters, and government conspiracies, this episode uncovers the eerie truth behind the Braxton County Monster. Host MF Thomas, who personally trekked to Braxton County last summer, unravels a 1952 close encounter of the third kind that left eight witnesses terrified and the world questioning: Was it an extraterrestrial visitor, a mechanical robot from another world, a misidentified natural phenomenon, or a secret missile test suppressed by the US government? Packed with eyewitness accounts, physical evidence, and lingering enigmas, this podcast episode blends history, folklore, and the unexplained—perfect for fans searching for information about the 1952 Flatwoods Monster. Picture this: It's September 12, 1952, twilight in sleepy Flatwoods, West Virginia—a state dripping with eerie legends like the Mothman, Grafton Monster, and Snarly Yow, even inspiring Silent Hill's foggy nightmares. Amid the 1950s UFO frenzy, with the "Invasion of Washington" buzzing D.C. and Life Magazine hyping flying saucers next to Marilyn Monroe, a group of boys playing football spots IT: a massive fiery object streaking the sky. Pulsing cherry red to orange, trailing flames, wobbling like a dying aircraft—not a meteor, but something controlled. It vanishes behind a hill on the Fisher farm, igniting chaos. Freddie May, just 11, recalls a "round ball of fire" spiraling like a leaf. Local bigwig Jack Davis swears it's a lit-up oblong craft, slowing to land, brighter than mercury vapor. No noise, just eerie descent. The boys bolt home, dragging mom Kathleen May, 35, into the fray. With 17-year-old Eugene Lemon and his dog, plus pals Neil Nunley (14), Teddie Neal, Edison May (13), Ronald Shaver, and tiny Tommy Hyer (6), they form an unwitting expedition. Flashlights in hand, they trek half a mile through darkening woods, spotting a red-purple flare atop the hill. Hearts pounding, they push on—unaware they're stepping into nightmare fuel. The path steepens: Mist rolls in, thick and foreboding. A sharp metallic stench hits—like burning TV tubes—searing throats, watering eyes. Kathleen shudders, still smelling it decades later.
