Since the 1960s California has always been a place associated with alternative beliefs, countercultural movements and alternative lifestyles. The hippy movement, with it's summer of love, fueled by the west coast psychedelic music scene will always be a highlight from the era, but the truth is, the state of California's links to alternative beliefs go back much further and manifested in much stranger ways than a bunch of long haired students having a good time. Labour movements, civil rights activism and the gold rush era can all be associated with California's ties to alternative living, as can its long history with cult groups who have thrived in the area throughout history. With the boom of New Thought, Eastern Spirituality and alternative religions, countless groups have emerged to furnish the world with their peculiar beliefs and practices. One group known as The Divine Order of the Royal Arms of the Great Eleven, however, trumps many with its utterly nonsensical story of animal sacrifice, ritual worship, mysterious disappearances and elusive publications. The paths, perspectives, and languages are different, but everyone is working towards the same destination of love, unity, fulfillment, service, and connection. We all want to get to the same place with zen Buddhism and stoicism guided by similar principles.Stop Chasing, Start AttractingPeople have been commenting the same thing on Show's video on chasing versus attracting: if you're not chasing, how are you going to connect? Show gets it, but attracting is more active than chasing. Like the lion and the deer, chasing after someone or something only makes that thing run farther away from you. If you're attracting, it's like the cheese in the trap. It's active action that leads you to getting what you want with the least amount of effort. There's certain time, energy, and effort that you have to put on to prepare for this attraction. It's not about doing nothing, but attracting something through the energies and vibrations you give out. Attracting is understanding powerful, although invisible, things around you and being able to utilize it rather than chasing around and getting tired and burnt out over something that isn't meant to be yours. If you surrender to the world, you are preparing that trap and the whole system to attract something that comes into your life.“Karoshi”The extremity of the concept of “busy” found in Japan is through a phenomenon called “karoshi” or death by overwork. This collective belief has become a moral and cultural code in the country towards respect. When you break down the word “busy” in Japanese, which is also derived from the Chinese language, it means “heart” and “ nothing”, or simply put, “you lose your heart”. When we are too busy with work, you forget the most important thing which is to just be present in the moment. Marriages fail, toxic behaviors and bad patterns prevail because of this. Everyone is always in search of something, but the meaning of life is to just be present and simply be. Links and ResourcesYouTubeInstagramTikTokMeta-DescriptionMentor, life coach, model, and content creator Show Nemoto talks about his journey from being the most negative person in the world into the man that he is today.Support the show

The focus is not to be gentle to the child, it's much more than that. It's about really understanding the parents' own ego patterns and how they're bringing their own unconscious “crap” to the dynamic and how to stop doing their toxic behavior so they can truly meet the needs of the child before them, because that's what a child needs to flourish and become empowered and successful. Permissive parenting is just negligent parenting; it's nothing to do with conscious parenting. People think conscious parenting is like permissive parenting because Dr. Shefali talks so much about letting go of this delusion of control but that doesn't mean you let it go and completely ignore the needs of your children. Links and ResourcesWebsiteInstagramMeta-DescriptionNewly mom of two Candice talks all about parenting with clinical psychologist and NYT best-selling author Dr. Shefali Tsabary.Support the show

In 1965, a seventy-year-old man—soon to be known as Prabhupada—set sail from India to America with a few books in his bag, pennies in his pockets, and a message of love in his heart. He landed in New York at the peak of the revolutionary counterculture movement of the '60s, and went on to spark a global spiritual renaissance that led to the creation of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, which has changed millions of lives.  Through the depiction of Prabhupada as both an enlightened luminary and a personable, funny, and conscientious individual, Swami in a Strange Land shows why cultural icons such as George Harrison and Allen Ginsberg incorporated Prabhupada's teachings into their lives, and why millions more around the globe embarked upon the path of bhakti yoga in his footsteps.  Carefully researched, skillfully crafted, and extraordinarily intimate, this narrative follows Prabhupada as he rises from an anonymous monk to a world-renowned spiritual leader. Set in locations as far ranging as remote Himalayan caves and the gilded corridors of Paris's City Hall, Swami in a Strange Land traces the rise of Eastern spirituality in the West—and in particular, the rise of yoga culture and vegetarianism and the concepts of karma and reincarnation.  A remarkable journey into the deepest dimensions of the human experience, Swami in a Strange Land shows how one man with a dream can change the world. Moin Subhani is a Toronto-based psychotherapist who practices the Gestalt method. Moin likens the modality to emotional intelligence 101, an awareness of intra- and interpersonal truths. That inward/outward journey is one Moin knows well. ”Growing up in this society, especially as a Brown person, queer, it was hard for me to sit comfortably in my skin and love myself.”  His corporate career made the task doubly difficult. In a setting where the aggressive male stereotype is at best tolerated and at worst celebrated, any show of displeasure or vocalized anger by a person of color is generally deemed a threat to rigid roles and accepted strategies for overpowering challenges to the reigning authority.  Y'all know that when anger is shoved down, it corrupts from the inside out. The emotion continues to simmer until it boils over, often in the gut of subsequent generations––and isn't that what we're experiencing now as the world is made to examine past injustices in order to create a more equitable future for all?  Moin feels that Gestalt fosters a more thorough unlearning and rewiring process. In an age of accelerated global reckoning, where our anger is regularly misunderstood or aggressively disregarded, there's promise in reclaiming our anger as power with rather than power over. In this podcast, we will explain how Eastern spirituality and Western psychology understand the "I," the persona. Both have completely different perspectives of the individual based on their diametrically opposed cultural and religious worldviews. These differences are extremely important for understanding how to overcome suffering. One path provides a way of dealing with our suffering within the social and cultural boundaries we find ourselves in and the other questions these boundaries by suggesting the society and culture themselves create suffering and cannot be alleviated by conforming to the indoctrination that caused suffering in the first place. In this episode, Chandresh discusses the heated debate that is going on about the cultural appropriation of tantra, yoga, and eastern spirituality. Chandresh shares his perspective and experience on how we can arrive at a solution. The cultural appropriation debate is asking for the respect that the eastern spirituality deserves. Chandresh discusses questions like:  What problems are being faced in western society that are becoming a challenge in healing the cultural appropriation problem? What exactly is missing in the western culture that is not enabling the cultural appreciation part to happen? He also shares various solutions and discusses how we can turn this problem into a solution. Some of these include mantras and teachings from various teachers and masters who have talked about being in the global village and treating the world as your family. The truth is, spirituality is for everyone. It is not a monopoly of a certain religion, color, or community. In order for us to channel and expand into any form of art or spirituality, we have to learn how to use it in the most respectful way. This is the basic, most fundamental part. David Crow is a renowned plant medicine expert who studied Chinese, Tibetan and Ayurvedic medicines and their spiritual lineages. In this episode, David discusses the three indigenous medicines from Asia and what they teach us about immunity and planetary health. He dives deep on the four levels of medicine discussed in the Tibetan tradition, the five elements from Ayurveda, and why it’s difficult to separate the medicine from the spiritual lineage.    In this episode, we discuss: Why the indigenous medicines are inseparable from the spiritual lineages they came out of -- for example Ayurveda, Yoga and Tantra all came out of the Vedic philosophy Tibetan medicine’s poetic description of the nine months of pregnancy and embryology, and - being rooted in a belief in reincarnation - also what happens at the end of life and in the transition between death and the next phase, referred to as the bardo The four levels of medicine as depicted on a Tibetan thangka Why prana from Ayurveda, chi from Chinese medicine, and ultimately enlightenment, are the goals of medicine and spiritual practice How plant medicine is reconnecting us to ecophysiology and the health of the earth and why this is important right now spiritually Your definition of “me” at the levels of the microcosm and macrocosm How to dissolve the boundaries of the self into the unified field and the stream of consciousness  Why yoga and meditation create biological unity, where the individual self is part of something else The role of herbal medicine, nutrition and detoxification in strengthening the immune system and planetary health Why everyone went crazy for herbs like turmeric this year   David Crow, the founder of Floracopeia, is a plant medicine expert, clinician, consultant, researcher, educator and author. Her life journey (only 28 years and counting) has led her soaring heights of wisdom and insights to who we are, our purpose for being on earth. Her insights into indigenous animal totems and the ancient Chinese I Ching helps people understand the real nature of their being and life purpose. Growing up between the lush forests of New York and the mossy lava fields of Iceland, Brynja has been immersed in nature spirituality since childhood. For over 10 years she has been studying the use of animal totems and the I Ching as a practical tool for guidance and self-awareness. After several life-altering spiritual encounters in nature resulting in the recovery from chronic illness, the study of spirituality has been her sole focus and career through modalities such as Shamanism, Eastern Spirituality, manual therapies, rituals, initiations, and nature immersion. Brynja integrates tools such as Human Design and the Gene Keys with the study of symbolic and mystical modalities. In 2019 Brynja created Ceremoniance, a company dedicated to producing visual and text learning materials to make the study of energetics and spiritual concepts more accessible for beginners or cross-disciplinary students. Ceremoniance uses art and design as the medium for bridging inspiration, interest, and understanding to meaningful wisdom tools. In this podcast, we will explore why self-help and motivation doesn't transform ourselves or alleviate psychological problems and how Eastern spirituality actually does create the change we are longing for. In a world suffering from an exponential growth in stress, anxiety, depression, and suicide, many people are turning to self-help and motivational gurus to hopefully pull them out of the darkness. But what we are now seeing after years of confidence in the self-help industry is a suppression of the real spiritual work that is needed to realize true happiness and contentment. That is why many are realizing the pitfalls in the self-help industry and are turning towards Eastern spirituality for a deeper exploration of oneself. So instead of tinkering with your life with self-help to adapt to the social game so that you can become a "successful" player, Eastern spirituality is telling you to give the game up altogether and find out what is fundamentally true within the universe because the game itself is rigged and only leads to suffering.

Many people harbor a misconception that meditation has its singular roots in the world of Eastern Spirituality. In fact, the tenets of meditation is present as early as in The Bible. It doesn't require a lotus position or strange mantras. It's actually a recognition that there are two paths which travel through our brain. Each path has its own voice. One voice is the sound of the body- it can be loud, disruptive, angry, overwhelmingly sad, frustrated or jealous. It's a voice driven by the chemicals of our brain that pump stress through our body exactly as we see it happen to the animals of the jungle. Because stress is a sign of necrosis or dying tissue, it really gets our attention. Stress occupies a prominent space and can, without even trying swirl our thoughts in a kaleidoscope of darkness that drowns out focus and light. The other voice is the sounds of your soul. It is calm, powerful, and can be filled with an amazing light. The goal of all of the meditations that the little teachers of Kids Kicking Cancer use is to quiet the noise of the body- To create a light that can overcome the inner darkness of pain, fear, anger, stress- When you will feel this light you will find the sound of your soul. In the Bible, the Hebrew word for the soul is neshama, it is from the the word neshima, or breath. The pathway to the soul can be found by learning how to use your breath to quiet the noise of the body. In the thirty meditations that we will learn together over the coming weeks with Rabbi G, you will discover the power of your neshama, the light of your soul. Each meditation will build upon the other, using similar phrases and tools allowing your mind to grow from one experience to the next, building an inner platform for the voice of your soul. What will make this exercise different from any other meditation in the world, is as you gain access to your inner light, you will be allowing the children of Kids Kicking Cancer to know that you are learning from them. When you give them purpose, they have less pain. Every time you listen to these meditations, it lets them know, immediately, that they are teaching the world. We call that Power – Peace – Purpose Let us begin together and take the next three minutes to begin this journey to find the power of the soul. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/heroes-circle/support

Tony Rubbo here, and I’d like to introduce you to The Keyholder Meditation Course. Having taught meditation for over 25 years in a variety of schools, businesses, and community groups, I decided to create a free 12-week meditation course, which will become available early January 2020 on most podcast platforms. In my life, I’ve spent over 30,000 hours meditating, teaching meditation, writing about meditation, and studying various forms of meditation. Including buddhist-based Zen, Hindu-based Mantra, Christian-based Contemplative Prayer, secular Mindfulness, and movement-based Yoga. And out of this, I’ve developed a distinct form of meditative practice. I call it Keyholder Meditation. It utilizes meditation in order to benefit us practically in everyday life. i.e. lending us the “keys” to otherwise closed doors in our lives. It takes from Eastern Spirituality which focuses on inner development and one’s personal journey to peace and blends in Western Philosophy which focuses on outer achievement and an empirical search for truth. By the end of the Keyholder Meditation Course, I will have shared with you the tools I've learned over a life-time dedicated to meditation and spirituality. If you’d like to learn more, visit keyholdermedition.org where you can subscribe to the free course via your favorite podcast app. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/keyholdermeditation/message

Andrew Jasko (lifeafterdogma.org) joins Chuck and Brady. He tells his story growing up passionate about Christian Fundamentalism and leaving it all behind. They discuss the Charismatic Movement, damage of sexual repression, the mind-blowing origins of Yahweh and El, how humans respond to suffering, and how the Bible seems to have been been pieced together as a response to societal trauma. Andrew ends by talking about the healing he is finding in psychedelics, meditation, and Eastern Spirituality. Andrew's Story: Andrew's father was an Assembly of God pastor. Before he was born, Andrew was prophesied to be a spiritual warrior. As he grew up, he planned to win 1,000,000,000 souls to Jesus. His whole life pointed toward a future as a pastor or missionary. He got a Theology degree from Wheaton College and worked on another at Princeton. He had plans to go to India and start saving the world. But things weren't adding up. A faith that promised joy was exhausting him. His doubts got louder, but most of all, he clearly saw how the faith, despite its use of language about peace, produced never-ending anxiety. Andrew reluctantly studied and gave air to his doubts. Though losing one's faith feels like dying, he kept going. Driven to improve his mental health, he sought to understand how the faith kept him for so long and how he can heal. Understanding how humans respond to trauma changed his life. He saw similar patterns in the Bible's history. Psychedelics and Eastern Spirituality gave him a new sense of purpose and understanding his life after dogma. He writes about spiritual healing on his blog and coaches others healing from spiritual trauma.

You DO need a Veda man to know which way the wind blows.” — Swami BeyondanandaEver since the era of the “moral majority” and the Christian Coalition, we have seen how religion can impact our political conversations, and national destiny. But what about those “other” religions that come from the East? Our guest this week, Philip Goldberg, is an expert on how and why Americans have flocked to Eastern religions over the past half-century, and the impact this migration has had on our national consciousness. He speaks from experience. Growing up in a non-religious Jewish-Marxist household, Philip found his own way to spirituality by becoming a student of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. His book American Veda: From Emerson and the Beatles to Yoga and Meditation, How Indian Spirituality Changed the West offers a rich account of his own spiritual development, and an enlightening history of how the Vedic tradition and “perennial wisdom” developed in the wake of the transcendentalist movement in the 1800s.His latest book is a comprehensive biography of Paramahansa Yogananda titled The Life of Yogananda: The Story of the Yogi Who Became the First Modern Guru. Philip is also a meditation teacher and ordained Interfaith Minister, and also the cohost of the popular Spirit Matters podcast and leads American Veda Tours to India.Philip and I have another interesting connection that dates back to before we knew one another. We both attended John Marshall Junior High in Brooklyn, a school notorious as one of the “worst” in New York City, where the principal actually took his own life in despair about crime at his school. He and I also share a common spiritual tradition from our childhood. No, not Judaism — the Brooklyn Dodgers. In addition to his well-researched works on Eastern spirituality in America, he is the author of an autobiographical novel about the year the Brooklyn Dodgers won the World Series, “This Is Next Year.”If you’re curious about how Eastern wisdom can inform our current political “shituation” and enjoyed reading Autobiography of a Yogi back in the day, you’ll appreciate Philip going deeper into how and why Yogananda came to the U.S., his reception here, and his enduring influence. As an indication of where Philip is coming from, here is a quote from his website:“American democracy can flourish only when citizens are united, at a deep level that transcends ideology, race, and class, to a shared spiritual and moral vision of what America should be.”If you recognize that the heart and soul of who we are includes and transcends both religion and non-religion, please join us this Tuesday, October 2nd at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET. : http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/Or, find us on the Wiki archives on Wednesday: http://wikipolitiki.com/archives/Philip Goldberg can be found online at: http://philipgoldberg.com/Support Wiki Politiki — A Clear Voice In The “Bewilderness”If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, “put your money where your mouse is” … Join the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/Make a contribution in any amount via PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/y8fe9dks)Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! Pain and the ego are equated and you have a choice whether to suffer or not. Anytime you are in pain of any kind, you are experiencing the ego. We have the ability to program ourselves with happiness. When we are in Pure Presence or Essence, we are not identified with the ego. Though most therapeutic systems will tell you that you need to have healthy ego boundaries. Spirituality would say that you first need an ego in order to transcend an ego. We need to command a new Presence. The “Is-ness” of our True Nature is Presence and suffering is not desirable as is taught in many Eastern Spirituality traditions. Suffering is self-created. Bryan encourages people to put aside ingrained beliefs about suffering being somehow a sign of “holiness” or “worthiness”.  We do not need to crucify ourselves and need to take the crown of thorns off of our head and take the nails out of our hands and feet. Most of us in the West have been conditioned to believe that suffering is somehow admirable in the eyes of God. We are Infinitely Blessed, Loved, and “Need Do Nothing” to experience our Divinity. Pain comes from fear and emotions such as anger are draining to our life force. Anything that causes “dis-ease”, is not from our True Self. Only our egos can be offended. According to A Course In Miracles, God, who is beyond all gender, does not condemn nor inflict vengeance and suffering onto anyone out of punishment. We are whole, we are One, we are Innocent. Seeming to fall from grace is an illusion, it is not real, it is a “side show”. There is a way to live in moral harmony. When we hear words like “yield” and “surrender” yourself to a loving God. What it really means is being open and receptive to the Divine Flow of Life Force in our Being. Choosing to live in duality creates suffering as well.

In the West words like "Guru", "devotion" and "surrender" have a hard time being digested. Most of the people who are Saints in India would be hospitalized in the West. Now there seems to be a shift where we can honor these traditions in a way that does not water them down.

Nick Gancitano has spent most of his adult life delving into the mysteries of the ancient spiritual teachings and has undergone a conscious transformation that has made him a specialist in the field. Nick studied under some of its most respected sages and has traveled extensively around the world to deliver this teaching. In addition, Nick himself has been recognized for his simplification of the often complicated spiritual system of advaita (wisdom through direct insight). After returning from his journey, Nick became committed to disseminating these teachings among friends and associates who became students and soon erected The Self-Inquiry Center for Conscious Living, where Nick now provides his lighthearted works to a growing population of devoted spiritual seekers. Aside from being the spiritual director at The Self-Inquiry Center, Nick was once an All-American athlete, corporate regional vice-president, and U.S. National Champion under the legendary football coach Joe Paterno. He later became one of the world's leading experts on place-kicking, personally developing over forty collegiate Division IA athletes, including nine All-Americans. But his original background lay in physics, physiology and biomechanics, as he firmly states that all information recorded for spiritual scripture and scientific documentation should be based on one's direct experience and not borrowed beliefs passed down through generations by the unknowing. Nick can be contacted via email.
