Does anyone know what is in this deal?! Sunday evening, the US and Iran signed (?) an agreement that would supposedly open the Strait of Hormuz and end the US naval blockade. The deal supposedly ends hostilities and opens parties up to negotiate on Iran's nuclear future over the 60-day period. What else is in the deal? No one knows! Will the deal hold up? Probably not! All parties involved in the negotiations said ending the war in Lebanon was part of the deal, yet Israel is still committed to their invasion. Stay tuned for the end, where the HITO men talk about the proliferation of data centers across the country, and what Democrats like Gretchen Whitmer aren't doing to stop them. Trevor Project Fundraiser!: https://headintheoffice.com/ Early access on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/headintheofficepodSubstack: https://headintheoffice.substack.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4iJ-UcnRxYnaYsX_SNjFJQSubscribe to second channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3UoTN328OA7fK2dzicP-ZATikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@headintheoffice?lang=enInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/headintheoffice/Twitter: https://twitter.com/headintheofficeThreads: https://www.threads.com/@headintheofficeDiscord: https://discord.gg/hito Collab inquiries: headintheofficepod@gmail.com(0:00) bruh(2:00) Intro(4:40) U.S.-Iran Peace Deal (??)(39:20) The Politics of AI: Data Centers, Public Opinion, and Democrats(1:05:15) Reviews/endingSeen on this episode:Iran war - https://apnews.com/article/iran-us-war-ceasefire-deal-e0a9e4e1152ea8da10ea066ad174a23ahttps://www.npr.org/2026/06/14/nx-s1-5858099/us-iran-trump-deal-end-war-hormuzhttps://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/06/14/world/iran-war-trump-ushttps://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/deal-reached-united-states-iran-war-rcna350039https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/14/world/middleeast/israel-us-iran-deal.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/06/15/world/iran-war-trump-us-dealhttps://www.cnbc.com/2026/06/15/vance-iran-deal-negotiations-nuclear.htmlData centers & AI - https://www.politico.com/news/2026/06/13/republicans-ai-josh-hawley-tech-republicans-artificial-intelligence-00961315 https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/where-republicans-and-democrats-stand-ai-data-centers https://coloradosun.com/2026/04/27/data-center-bills-stalled-colorado-legislature/ https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/09/climate/data-center-bans.html?eafs_enabled=false https://hai.stanford.edu/ai-index/2026-ai-index-report

Angel Maturino Reséndiz killed at least fifteen people across six states, riding freight trains from Texas to Kentucky to California. He landed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Holly Dunn was the only person across every one of his confirmed encounters who survived — and she survived with injuries that should have killed her.But this episode isn't about the Railroad Killer. It's about Chris Maier. The twenty-one-year-old boyfriend who was bound and kneeling beside railroad tracks in Lexington, Kentucky, about to die, and who used his last seconds to make a promise to the woman he loved. "Everything is going to be okay." He was right. It took years, a wired jaw, a shattered eye socket, a trial, and a two-hundred-yard crawl — but he was right.Holly Dunn built Holly's House, wrote a memoir called Sole Survivor, and turned Chris's five words into a life mission. But she could make out the shape of a house in the distance, and she walked toward it because lying down on railroad tracks in Kentucky at twenty years old was not how her story was going to end.The man who left her there was Angel Maturino Reséndiz — the Railroad Killer, who traveled by freight train and killed at least fifteen people across six states. In December 2020, 21-year-old Texas State University student Jason Landry left San Marcos, Texas, headed home to Missouri City for Christmas break. He never made it. Just after midnight, Jason's wrecked Nissan Altima was found on a rural gravel road near Luling, Texas, with the lights on, the keys in the ignition, and Jason nowhere in sight. His phone, wallet, backpack, and clothing were later found in or near the crash scene—but Jason had vanished into the cold Texas night. In this episode of Hitched 2 Homicide, we take a deep dive into the mysterious disappearance of Jason Landry, the timeline of his final known drive, the strange evidence found on Salt Flat Road, the search efforts by law enforcement and volunteers, the geofence warrant, the theories surrounding whether Jason was alone, and the painful questions his family still faces more than five years later. Was Jason disoriented after the crash and lost in the rural Texas landscape? Did someone come across him after the accident? When I opened Facebook this morning, as I do every morning, I learned that Alexander Rabinowitch died at 91 years old. Rabinowitch was arguably one of the most important historians of the Russian Revolution. It's hard to state how much Rabinowitch's work influence our understanding of 1917. Before him, it was assumed that the Bolsheviks were a highly disciplined, unpopular political party that came to power through a coup. What Rabinowitch repeatedly showed in his four books on Revolution, the Bolsheviks had popular support, most importantly in factories in Petrograd and in other large cities and at the front. Lenin's slogans, particularly, "Peace, Land, Bread!" had mass support, and by October 1917, successfully rode a wave of revolution into power. And now that Alexander Rabinowitch has left us, I figured I'd dig out my old interview with him from 2017, clean it up, and re-release it to commemorate the life and work of this scholarly giant.Guest:Alexander Rabinowitch was a Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University, where he taught from 1968 until 1999. He's the author of four books on the Russian Revolution: Prelude to Revolution: The Petrograd Bolsheviks and the July 1917 Uprising; The Bolsheviks Come To Power: The Revolution of 1917 in Petrograd; The Bolsheviks in Power: The First Year of Soviet Rule in Petrograd; and finally his fourth and last book which was just published in April, The Bolsheviks Survive: Petrograd 1919 published by the University of Pittsburgh Press. Alaska is a land brimming with natural resources, including gold, silver, copper, coal, oil, salmon, and crab. Still, too often, outsiders have plundered these resources, enriching themselves and leaving Alaska and Alaskans with little to show for it. Alaska has had a “boom and bust” economy since the early 1900s, and no place exemplifies this economy better than Valdez. The aggressive Alaska Syndicate was formed in 1906 with backing from J.P. Morgan and the Guggenheim family, and its initial goal was to mine copper. However, soon the syndicate wanted all Alaska had to offer, including gold, coal, and salmon. It also fought to control rail and sea transportation in Alaska, and with powerful government connections and unlimited funds, it mostly got what it wanted. It needed a railroad to transport copper from its remote Kennecott mines to the ocean, then steamships to ferry it to southern ports. The syndicate chose to construct rail tracks from Kennecott to Cordova, and when rival builders began constructing a railroad from Valdez to Alaska's interior, a violent confrontation erupted, culminating in a shootout in Keystone Canyon. This month on Laura Flanders and Friends, we're revisiting conversations around solidarity, kinship and what it means to be human.  This week we celebrate Marsha P Johnson's life and legacy with two trans activists who are carrying on her work.  This show is made possible by you!  Make a one off donation or make it monthly at LauraFlanders.org/donate.  Episode Description: Activist and artist Marsha P. Johnson was one of the key founders of the gay liberation movement after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, but it's taken years for her to receive recognition. On this special Pride Month edition of “Meet the BIPOC Press”, we're celebrating Marsha's life and legacy with two activists carrying her story forward. A new biography from Penguin House, “Marsha: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. Johnson” by our guest, Tourmaline traces Marsha's working-class beginnings to her work with sex workers and street activists, to her death in 1992. Qween Jean is a self-described “spiritual daughter” of Marsha and the founder of Black Trans Liberation. Explore how mainstream media coverage once excluded Marsha, and what's changed since then. We also unpack the media's coverage of transphobia and the recent ruling from Tennessee that restricts gender-affirming care for minors. In the face of extreme backlash and repression, how are artists and activists reframing media narratives for queer and trans liberation? “A lot of trans and queer people, especially here in New York City, that are asylum seekers that have had to leave other countries from persecution now find themselves in a place of purgatory . . . They can't even go to get a hormone shot because they're afraid. What if ICE is literally outside waiting for us?” - Qween Jean “Marsha knew that these conditions didn't get to determine how she felt about herself. No court, no Supreme Court, no police officer, no governor, no president . . . She was creating the conditions to remind herself and each other that we too get to feel beautiful and know our value firmly.” - Tourmaline Guests: •  Qween Jean: Founder, Black Trans Liberation; Human Rights Activist & Costume Designer  including 'CATS: The Jellicle Ball' on Broadway •  Tourmaline: Artist; Author, MARSHA: The Joy and Defiance of Marsha P. In this lesson from the Gate of Repentance (Shaar HaTeshuvah), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the fifth through eighth components of authentic teshuvah: worry, shame, humility of heart, and humility in action. Repentance is not merely about regretting the past and committing to change; it also requires a healthy concern for the future. A person should never become overconfident in their spiritual standing. The Mishnah teaches, "Do not trust yourself until the day of your death," reminding us that spiritual growth is an ongoing journey that requires vigilance, self-awareness, and constant renewal. The episode then focuses on the powerful role of shame and accountability. Rabbi Wolbe explains that while people often hide their mistakes from others, nothing is hidden from Hashem. Healthy shame is not destructive; rather, it awakens a person to the reality that they have fallen short of their own potential. This awareness leads naturally to humility. The more a person appreciates the gifts, talents, and opportunities Hashem has given them, the more they recognize how much more they are capable of accomplishing. True humility is not thinking less of oneself—it is recognizing that one's achievements are still far below the greatness they were created to attain. Rabbi Wolbe concludes by distinguishing between humility in the heart and humility in action. Genuine repentance expresses itself through behavior: speaking softly, accepting criticism without defensiveness, avoiding arrogance, and carrying oneself with dignity and modesty. A truly humble person is not focused on impressing others but on living up to the expectations of Hashem. The process of teshuvah ultimately guides a person toward a broken yet hopeful heart—a heart that recognizes its shortcomings while remaining inspired by its limitless potential for growth. _____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on September 29, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 17, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at aw@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. There is no alternative. The End of History. Climate Apocalypse. It seems that our contemporary moment is defined by the idea that things can only get worse or, in the most optimistic reading, perhaps stay as they are. Ideas for things getting better, utopian ideas, seem in short supply. It is this which Joe Davidson confronts in his book Saving Utopia: Imagining Hopeful Futures in Dystopian Times (MIT Press, 2026). Davidson links this apparent decline in utopian thinking to a change in ‘time consciousness', the ways in which our sense of the future seems less open to possibility than it once was. Despite this he notes the persistence of utopianism in a new form, the ‘postdystopian utopia' which takes account of the assumption the future will be worse and uses this as a spur to utopian thinking. He then explores how this manifests itself in various utopian works in different traditions, from Black utopianism considering the tragedy of the slave trade, feminism mining the nostalgia of previous battles to consider how things could be different and climate change utopianism confronting catastrophe. In our discussion we explore the changing fortunes and forms of utopianism over time, the value of ‘utopian studies', why Silicon Valley tech-bros might be as utopian (or dystopian) as they make out and think about why it is important we all imagine the possibility of different worlds. Joe also makes a number of reading recommendations for postdystopian utopian novels. Your host, Matt Dawson is Professor of Sociology at the University of Glasgow and the author of G.D.H. Cole and British Sociology: A Study in Semi-Alienation (Palgrave Macmillan, 2024) and co-editor of The Anthem Companion to Henri Lefebvre (Anthem Press, 2026) along with other texts. “This is a book about a cruel and ruthless war—a war without mercy—in which those caught up in it believed they had nothing to lose by fighting without regard for the rules of so-called ‘civilized warfare.' It was the War for American Independence. At its grimmest level, this was a confrontation in which military restraint was more the exception than the rule, a struggle in which combatants believed their very existence was in question.”Those are the words of my guest Mark Lender and his co-author, the late James Kirby Martin, from their book War Without Mercy: Liberty or Death in the American Revolution. While a growing number of historians have shown that the Revolutionary War was often far more brutal than Americans like to remember, few have attempted to explain why it became so brutal. Lender and Martin argue that the answer lies in understanding the Revolution as an existential war: a conflict in which participants believed defeat threatened not merely political loss, but the destruction of their families, communities, and way of life.Mark Lender is Professor Emeritus of History at Kean University and most recently served as advisor to the 250th Anniversary Exhibit at the National Museum of the United States Army. He and James Kirby Martin also co-authored A Respectable Army: The Military Origins of the Republic, 1763-1789.

In this lesson from the Gate of Repentance (Shaar HaTeshuvah), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the third and fourth stages of genuine repentance: sorrow and action. True teshuvah requires more than intellectual acknowledgment of wrongdoing. A person must feel genuine pain over the damage caused to their relationship with Hashem. Just as people experience deep anguish over financial loss, broken relationships, or personal hardship, they should feel profound sorrow when they recognize that their actions have created distance between themselves and their Creator. The purpose of this sorrow is not self-punishment but the restoration of closeness with Hashem, who continuously showers kindness upon us even when we fall short. Rabbi Wolbe explains that the depth of a person's repentance is often measured by the depth of their regret. The more a person appreciates Hashem's endless love, generosity, and patience, the more painful it becomes to realize how they may have misused those gifts. This emotional response reflects the purity of the soul, which naturally longs to reconnect with its Divine source. Teshuvah is fundamentally about repairing a relationship, and sincere remorse demonstrates how much that relationship truly matters. The episode then introduces the next stage: transforming repentance from an internal feeling into external action. Regret in the heart is essential, but it must eventually be expressed through tangible change. Throughout Jewish history, fasting, tears, altered routines, increased prayer, and visible acts of humility have served as physical expressions of repentance. Rabbi Wolbe explains that these actions help a person internalize the seriousness of their mistakes and demonstrate a genuine commitment to growth. The lesson concludes by highlighting the role of the eyes and the heart as gateways to both holiness and temptation. Tears, introspection, and disciplined action become tools for cleansing the soul and rebuilding one's connection with Hashem. _____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on September 29, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 16, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! For most of our history, humans lived in relatively egalitarian societies that actively prevented the accumulation of power. Author of Goliath's Curse, Luke Kemp, examines how hierarchical states, 'Goliaths', came to dominate the world. We explore why Goliaths repeatedly collapse, the likely trajectories of today's global Goliath, and what it might take to radically democratize power before history repeats itself. Highlights include: Why Luke rejects the term 'civilization' in favor of 'Goliath' to describe the large-scale societies that have emerged over the past several thousand years and were built on dominance hierarchies such as ruler and ruled, rich and poor, man and woman, and free and slave; How archaeological and anthropological evidence suggests that for most of human history people lived in relatively egalitarian, democratic, and cooperative societies, challenging long-standing assumptions about humanity's supposedly violent and selfish nature; How humans historically constrained would-be tyrants through ridicule, ostracism, exile, and if necessary group execution; How the first Goliaths emerged thousand of years after intensified agriculture, using war and violence and growing their power through the 'Goliath fuel' of 'lootable resources, monopolizable weapons, and caged land'; How 'babies, bombs, bacteria, and barbarism' enabled Goliaths to expand across the globe, conquering and absorbing non-state people into today's global Goliath; Why the 'darker angels of our nature' - status competition, the 'dark triad' of personality traits, and the authoritarian impulse - also provide fuel to the growth and persistence of Goliaths; Why Goliaths function as engines of inequality that become increasingly vulnerable to shocks like popular rebellion, environmental stress, disease, and how this makes societal collapse a recurring feature of large-scale societies throughout history; Why, if we continue with business as usual, the most likely long-term fate of today's global Goliath is collapse, and why in the short term we may be heading toward a 'Silicon Goliath' of increased digital surveillance and potential for autocratic repression; How we might 'shackle' Goliath through a process of radical democratization in 4 different forms of power - political, economic, violence, and information. The podcast explores needed narrative, behavioral, and system shifts for recreating human life in balance with all life on Earth. With expert guests from wide-ranging disciplines, we examine the forces underlying overshoot: from patriarchal pronatalism that is fueling overpopulation, to growth-biased economic systems that lead to consumerism and social injustice, to the dominant worldview of human supremacy that subjugates animals and nature. Our vision of shrinking toward abundance inspires us to seek pathways of transformation that go beyond technological fixes toward a new humanity that honors our interconnectedness with all beings.  Hosted by Nandita Bajaj and Alan Ware. From the mid-nineteenth century through the dust bowl years of the Great Depression, a new kind of migrant worker became a familiar sight in communities across America. The Hobo: A History of America's First Climate Migrants (Princeton UP, 2026) by Dr. Robert Suits traces the journeys of these homeless men and women, showing how hobo work was an adaptation to energy transitions and a harsh and unpredictable climate, and how the hobo played a central role in the histories of industrialization and westward expansion.Challenging common depictions of the hobo as a world-weary, bearded man in ragged clothes, Dr. Suits reveals how these wandering laborers were often fastidious and heartbreakingly young. Forever on the move due to economic hardship and climate disaster, they chased harvests and took seasonal jobs in industries like logging and mining. Too often they couldn't find employment at all. Suits describes the difficult, dangerous, and highly unstable jobs they worked while shedding light on the hobo life and philosophy, from their techniques for stowing away on railroads to their unique blend of socialist, anarchist, and anti-work thought. He traces the emergence of the hobo to the advent of steam and the need for manual laborers in places where this new technology couldn't reach and describes how a growing reliance on the internal combustion engine brought an end to hobo work.Drawing on oral histories, environmental data, and cutting-edge digital methods, The Hobo paints an unforgettable portrait of an eclectic group of wandering radicals, troublemakers, poets, and writers, demonstrating how their experiences upend some of our basic assumptions about how environments and technologies shape society. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars.
