In our world, knowing the future can't save you from it. On the final episode of Hot Dave's Summer Film Fest Vol. V: The Future is Super Female, Dakota Johnson and Sony Pictures make a film so bad it threatens to end Cinema as we know it! So take off your shoes and prepare to party like it's 2003; it's Madame Web! I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we review what is perhaps the worst film we've ever watched for this podcast are fellow cinephiles and precogs Ryan, Mike, and Jackie. Topics of discussion in this episode include the age old Hollywood tradition of churning out garbage strictly to hold onto an IP; Dakota Johnson can see the future, but apparently has difficulty opening a can of Pepsi; and finally, Sony Pictures sadly drives the final nail in the proverbial coffin of their live-action Spiderverse spinoffs with a film so bad, it can't even be saved by an ending at a literal fireworks factory. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com And with that, Hot Dave's Summer Film Fest Vol. V comes to an end. What else is there to say…sorry, folks. They can't all be winners. But next year, we're gonna pull out all the stops and only feature bangers. No more films by Pitof - we promise.
This week on the Toy Power Podcast; its another News heavy episode; as we take a snap shot of the Crowdfunding that's still in progress from the MOTU Snake Lair & the Star Wars GunShip. Then we look at some teaser images of the Transformers Missing Link Ultra Magnus... We have some questions if it will be as articulated as the previous releases? McFarlane has a new Batmobile on offer for everyone's garage & Blokees Galaxy Version 08 is a has a really neat roster of figures! Will the Figure Obscura: The Jersey Devil, be haunting your neighbourhood? Or is the Marvel releases of Deadpool, Doop & Mysterio sets more your desire? Star Wars Black series announces some long overdue classic figures as well as some Christmas designs that are so bad they are good?!? Then it gets more personal; as we plug our latest Scores! There's certainly a bit of Jealousy in the room - but also some love as Ben surprises Trent with a custom missing accessory. Frank surprises us all with some outstanding Comics - some of which are quite old - plus an awesome plan to display them! Rounding out the ep; its a bit of a round table chat about what we are Reading / Watching / Playing! All this & more - hope you enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, the gang (who collectively doesn't listen to k-pop) attempts to understand the nuances of ~i d o l c u l t u r e~ as we tackle 2025's KPop Demon Hunters, from the same Sony Animation Studios that brought us the Spider-Verse series and The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Perhaps the most notable aspect of this film is the music, which is currently charting over actual albums from actual musicians (not to say that TWICE ain't a real musical group), and with a number of us being music theory nerds we get deep in the nitty-gritty of just how well this film/musical comes together. It's a fun film that isn't perfect but very effectively earworms its way into the audience's heads, and I'm sure we can all agree: this is what cinema sounds like. Content warning: SPOILERS, strong language.
In a Film Scorer first, a repeat guest joins the show! Daniel Pemberton (the Spider-Verse films, King Arthur) comes onto the show for a second time, after chatting with me back in 2023 about his score for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. Even though we're just over halfway through the year, Daniel's already scored about a half dozen projects, so we had plenty of things to talk about. With so much to pick from, we primarily talk about his recent work on the Black Mirror episode USS Callister: Into Infinity and Eddington - two extremely different projects with very different scores. Of course, even though our chat clocks in at just under half an hour we cover plenty of other ground too, including trends in modern film scoring and a big detour into Anton Karas's score for The Third Man. Daniel's score for Eddington and Callister, and much of his other music, is available on all major platforms. Eddington is still playing in select theaters and is available on demand while Callister is available on Netflix. And if you haven't yet, be sure to check out our prior conversation here: https://thefilmscorer.com/an-interview-with-daniel-pemberton/

Mattel's rather ambitious Snake Lair; with a rather questionable price tag! Plus the other HasLab project, the Star Wars: Gunner Ship! This one looks like it needs a huge boost of backers! Get ready for a raunchy, animated romp as Fixed unleashes a surreal night in the life of Bull—a lovable staffordshire bull terrier who discovers he's scheduled to be neutered the next morning. Directed and co-written by Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, Primal) with acclaim for its bold, hand‑drawn 2D visuals, Fixed marks Sony Pictures Animation's first R‑rated animated feature. Voicing Bull is Adam DeVine (Workaholics, Pitch Perfect), joined by a standout voice cast including Idris Elba (Luther, Pacific Rim) as Rocco, Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along, Bad Moms) as Honey, Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live, Portlandia) as Fetch, Beck Bennett (SNL, The Mitchells vs. the Machines) as Sterling, Bobby Moynihan (SNL, Spider-Verse) as Lucky, plus River Gallo, Michelle Buteau, and more! The plot zooms through Bull's desperate, gonad-obsessed escapades—storming dog clubs, chasing love, causing chaos in “Hump City,” and facing his deepest fears. Scenes like the dog's strip club, Kool-Aid toilet debacle, ball-themed existential chaos, and Bull's heartfelt confession to Honey are as hysterical as they are disturbing. Tartakovsky's signature visual style shines—even if the humor may wear thin quickly. Critics are divided: some praise the stunning hand-drawn animation and bold character design, while others chide the relentless crude punchlines! "THIS IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE!" Time and again in recent years, Sony Animation has proven to be the bright spot at Sony Pictures. Ever since Into the Spider-Verse, they've taken bold risks and received great reward in turn, and this film has been no exception. Ever since its release nearly two months ago, the story of HUNTR/X has had a chokehold on people, quickly becoming one of Netflix's most-watched films of all time. So, what do we think of it? Tune in to find out as Darby (@gwenstacying) and Trey (@HeyGuysItSpidey) lead Brian and Alec through their first viewing of this year's most popular animated film -- KPOP DEMON HUNTERS!

Is it anime? No. But is it animated and taking the world by storm? Very much so!Kpop Demon Hunters might not fit our usual range of topics on this podcast, but the film is a great example of how media that is firmly grounded in its culture can take the world by storm when it's handled right! It's a film produced by Sony's Spiderverse team (and all the baggage that comes with it), which has resulted in some typically anime style elements and art choices being used throughout the film! All this, plus What We've been Watching and a bag full of anime news items!VIDEOS!Kawaii-Fi YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/KawaiiFiKyle's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@KyleinOrbitTifa's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/thetkennedy SUPPORT USPatreon: Patreon.com/KawaiiFiBuy us a Coffee: Ko-fi.com/kawaiifi JOIN THE KAWAII-FI COMMUNITYFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/KawaiiFiAnime/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kawaiifianime/Threads: https://www.threads.net/@kawaiifianime TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kawaiifianimeDiscord: https://discord.gg/p9ccFx8vTQ LISTEN ELSEWHERE?Spotify: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiSpotifyApple: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiAppleYT Music: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-Fi-YMCastbox: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiCastboxGoodpod: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-fiGoodpodAmazon Music: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiAmazonPocket Casts: https://bit.ly/Kawaii-FiPocket EPISODE SEGMENTS00:00:00 – Show Opener00:03:34 – What We're Watching00:33:25 – Now Featuring: KPOP Demon Hunters01:17:52 – Anime Communique01:41:48 – Next Time, Surprises, Soju and PsyTags:anime, podcast, anime news, anime podcast, anime reviews, anime recommendation,Kpop Demon Hunters,Sony,Spiderverse,The Summer Hikaru Died,Ruri Rocks,2.5D Seduction,Uglymug Epicfighter,Hideaki Anno,Dragon Ball,Cyborg 009,MAO,Golden Kamuy,Frieren,Reincarnated as a Slime,A-DO,Space Brothers,Rooster Fighter
For the final archive episode of 2025, Chris and Alex once again swing their way back into the superhero world of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey & Rodney Rothman, 2018), revisiting their discussion of Sony Pictures Animation's computer-animated film that featured special guest Simran Hans, film critic and culture writer whose work has appeared in The Observer, The Guardian, Buzzfeed, Dazed, The Fader and Sight & Sound. Lots here on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's unique comic book-style design and the visual “crunch” of its evocative flattened style; the upturned generic qualities of the computer-animated film within contemporary Hollywood; and the growing pervasiveness of superhero cinema that, since the film's release, has become further reinvigorated by Spider-Verse's now highly influential design.

This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we are still down a Scot, as he is still unwell. But that will not slow him down in contributing to this ep! Before we get into the main segments, we chat about Ben & Frank's latest Plastic Addiction, in the form of Transformers Blokees! Prior to chatting about the Superman Film itself, we focus on the Toy likeness compared to what the actor actually looks like! With a little Jurassic World banter in between. Then, without another moment to spare, we get right into the James Gunn driven film itself! We chat towards our Cinema experiences and start off with a non-spoiler discussion; before we head into a chat about the whole Film itself! Giving it our typical DVG rating out of 19 too. Then changing gears, we introduce a New segment - named: Variant Schmariant! We each pick two variants of a pre-existing character (in toy form) that just doesn't need to exist. We unearth some quite silly versions of characters that had a legitimate Toy Release; that clearly logic was not a concern at all!! Plus we tie a nice bow around the proposed Nick-Names for both Frank & Scot. Enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Welcome, Void! This week we're crawling back like Norman Osborne to pre-MCU MCU, aka, the time before RDJ. We're discussing the original 2002 Spiderman film with Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Willem Dafoe. We remark on how much of the superhero genre was established by this film but really, we mean that J.K. Simmons is the ONLY J. Jonah Jameson no matter the Spiderverse. But also, this cast: Octavia Spencer, Elizabeth Banks, and Joe Manganiello playing side characters! But let's really talk about iconic moments from this movie: The KISS, "with great power. . . ," and "my gift, my curse." But honestly we get sidelined by Willem Dafoe's . . . . . . . . . . . . ego. Woof.
In this episode of This Comic Cooks, Vactor and Shoff finally reach the end of the so-called Sony Spider-Verse—with Kraven the Hunter marking the franchise's final misstep. Was this movie really as bad as the internet says? Did Sony ever have a real plan for Spider-Man's villains without Spider-Man? And what does Kraven's failure mean for the future of Marvel's big-screen multiverse? We break down Aaron Taylor-Johnson's forgettable performance, Russell Crowe's baffling accent, and the wasted potential of iconic characters like Rhino and Chameleon. Plus, we talk about the contractual chaos between Sony and Marvel Studios, the lost opportunity of a Sinister Six movie, and what comes next—including Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Doomsday, and that Spider-Noir TV show. In this wide-ranging episode, Javito and Welly F. dive headfirst into what happened to good ol' human decency. From elevator button etiquette and gym phone returns to Spider-Verse karma theories and fast fashion reality checks, they peel back the layers of why people just… aren't polite anymore. Throw in hot takes on LeBron's NBA exit plan, the definition of true success (spoiler: it's peace), and why everybody's trying to skip the grind and start in a Ferrari...and you've got yourself a masterclass in social commentary with zero boundaries.

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios may be sitting out of this weekend's storied San Diego Comic Hall H, but that hasn't stopped the big news and updates from pouring in. First, last week in a huge move, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a small group of journalists to Marvel Studios' offices where he laid out the future for the next 5 to 7 years for the MCU. The biggest takeaway, arguably, was Feige's cagey hints regarding a likely reset to the universe during the events of Secret Wars, saying, “Reboot is a scary word; Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we're thinking along those lines.” Other tidbits from Feige's comments include a commitment to recasting the X-Men with new actors for their post Secret Wars film, an update on the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film and Sony's mandate that they stay away from a live action Miles Morales until the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. In Marvel news that looks to the more immediate future, director Matt Shakman shared that John Malkovich's role and performance as the Red Ghost has been removed from The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which opens this week!Superman continues to live up to its name when it comes to its performance, as the superhero flick passed $409 million at the global box office in its second weekend of release. The $58 million second weekend, which is a respectable -54% drop from the opening weekend, is in keeping with 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine and bodes favorably compared to other recent releases from the comic book genre; plus coupled with other wins like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, the latest success has helped Warner Bros become 2025's top earning studio with $1.32 billion in ticket sales. In other news, Variety confirmed Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been tapped to pen the Wonder Woman reboot for the DCU in addition to being attached to a live action Teen Titans project for the studio.Lots and lots of trailers hit the interwebs last week, lets run them down and talk about ‘em:Alien: EarthPredator: BadlandsTron: AresStranger Things S5Mortal Kombat IIChristopher Nolan made history by putting tickets on sale for The Odyssey exactly one year before the film's release, marking the first time any movie tickets have sold a full year in advance. The early sales were exclusively for IMAX 70mm screenings at select theaters, supporting Nolan's epic adaptation of the Greek myth that is being shot entirely on IMAX film cameras with a $250 million budget.Hulu announced that Futurama Season 13 will switch from its recent weekly release format to an all-at-once binge drop, with all 10 episodes premiering simultaneously on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT. The change marks a departure from the weekly rollout used for Seasons 11 and 12.Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in Robert Eggers' upcoming werewolf horror film Werwulf, with Lily-Rose Depp in talks to join the project in what would reunite the Nosferatu co-stars. Nintendo and Sony's live-action Legend of Zelda movie has cast Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealing the casting choices alongside first-look photos on social media. Taika Waititi is attached to direct a new feature film take on British comic book character Judge Dredd. Drew Pearce, the scribe known for Fall Guy and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, is attached to write the script.Disney's live action Lilo and Stitch has become the first film of 2025 to pass the $1 billion dollar mark at the international box office.Nearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft, the streamer has ordered an Assassin's Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise. The project will be created, showrun, and executive produced by Roberto Patino and David Wiener.
"That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero."Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)"Teen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities." The summer blockbuster season is in full swing, and we're diving into everything from Superman's ongoing cultural impact to the controversial use of AI in filmmaking. The Man of Steel continues to dominate conversations weeks after release, with fans still discovering Easter eggs and collecting merchandise that's flying off shelves faster than a speeding bullet. We explore the shifting landscape of animation as Spider-Verse gets pushed to 2027, raising questions about how long anticipation can realistically build before audiences move on. Meanwhile, television excellence gets its due with Emmy nominations showcasing standout performances on shows like The Bear, where Ayo Edebiri makes history with her third consecutive nomination.Perhaps most provocatively, we tackle Netflix's admission of using AI for an entire scene in a recent film – cutting production time by 90%. Where's the line between technological advancement and creative compromise? Is this the CGI revolution all over again, or something more concerning for the industry's future? Our deep dive into Amazon Prime's "Heads of State" examines how streaming platforms have created a new middle ground for action comedies that wouldn't necessarily thrive in theaters. John Cena and Idris Elba's chemistry carries this turn-your-brain-off adventure that perfectly embodies the streaming formula. We contrast this with "I Know What You Did Last Summer," a nostalgia play that struggles to justify its existence beyond name recognition.Looking ahead to Fantastic Four's imminent release, we can't help but get excited about the collectible popcorn buckets (particularly the impressive $80 light-up Galactus) while contemplating what Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards might mean for his already meteoric career trajectory. Whether you're a casual moviegoer or dedicated film buff, our conversation captures the pulse of this extraordinary moment in entertainment.
This week on Option Select, we're diving into a whirlwind of gaming and entertainment headlines you don't want to miss: Pokémon teams up with Razer to drop some wild PC peripherals—yes, your setup is about to get way more electric. Taika Waititi is reportedly working on a new Judge Dredd movie—can the king of quirky storytelling do justice to Mega-City One? Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits another delay. We talk expectations, burnout, and whether the wait is worth it. Valve starts removing Adults Only games from Steam—what does this mean for indie devs and content boundaries on the platform? Tune in as we break down what matters, crack a few jokes, and argue over whether Pikachu-themed RGB is genius or a war crime. Hit play, and don't forget to select “Option: Listen.”
This week on The Geekz, we dive into the unexpected nostalgia trip that is Head of State on Amazon Prime—an explosive throwback to '90s-style action that we absolutely loved! We also break down the latest buzz from the geek universe, including casting and plot updates for Fantastic Four, new developments in the Spider-Verse, and the surprising return of Captain Planet. Plus, we react to the jaw-dropping Tron: Ares trailer, tease what's ahead in Stranger Things Season 5, and gear up for more brutal battles in Mortal Kombat Part 2. We have a big two crossover coming your way today, no, not the Deadpool and Batman one, comics writer Mat Groom (Radiant Black, Inferno Girl Red) returns to the show all the way from Australia to talk about his Tokusatsu inspired DC Comics project Immortal Legend Batman and his Marvel Comics project Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse. I did my best to not dig too deeply into Immortal Legend Batman , one of the most anticipated events of the year for toku fans everywhere, so we don't give away any spoilers so we jump into what, for me, is one of the surprise Marvel books of 2025 in Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse with what I found to be a thoughtful approach to the relationships between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock wrapped in a slobberknocker of a throwdown between the multiverse representatives of the Web Heart and the Hive Mind. We also compare notes on the misconceptions about dangerous animals on our respective continents. It's alway a pleasure having Mat on the show.
