https://www.iservalan.com https://www.taletellerclub.comChapter 2: Classical Antiquity – Pleasure, Power, and Myth(Greece, Rome, India, China, Japan)Erotic Art in the Classical World: Sensuality, Divinity, and the Human FormThe civilizations of Greece and Rome profoundly shaped Western attitudes toward eroticism, beauty, and the human body. Meanwhile, in Asia, India, China, and Japan developed their own rich traditions of erotic art, where sexuality was intertwined with spirituality, aesthetics, and philosophy. Across these cultures, erotic imagery was not just about desire—it was deeply connected to mythology, religious devotion, and social identity. The Greek Celebration of the Nude and the DivineAncient Greek art (c. 800–146 BCE) is renowned for its idealized representations of the human form, including sensual and erotic depictions. Unlike later Western traditions, which often moralized sexuality, the Greeks saw eroticism as an essential aspect of life, closely tied to their gods, heroes, and social structures. The Male Nude and Homoeroticism in Greek ArtGreek sculptures and vase paintings frequently depicted the nude male body as a symbol of beauty, strength, and divine perfection. The kouroi (statues of young men) and later the works of sculptors like Phidias, Polykleitos, and Praxiteles showcased a balance of realism and idealism.Homoeroticism played a significant role in Greek culture, particularly in the institution of pederasty, where older men (erastai) mentored and formed relationships with younger men (eromenoi). While controversial today, these relationships were embedded in Greek education, social bonding, and military camaraderie. Erotic vase paintings and sculptures, such as those on the Warren Cup, openly depicted same-sex relationships without stigma.Aphrodite and the Feminine EroticThe goddess Aphrodite, associated with love and beauty, was a central figure in Greek erotic art. The first known fully nude female sculpture, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxiteles (c. 360 BCE), marked a shift in the portrayal of female sensuality. While earlier depictions of women were clothed, this work introduced the eroticized nude female body as an artistic norm in Western art.Rome: Eroticism, Excess, and Moral ContradictionsThe Romans inherited much from Greek artistic traditions but added their own flair for luxury, satire, and explicit eroticism. Roman erotic art ranged from refined frescoes in wealthy villas to bawdy graffiti in brothels, revealing a culture that embraced sexuality in both elite and everyday contexts.Pompeii and Herculaneum: A Window into Roman EroticismThe eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE preserved vast amounts of erotic art in Pompeii and Herculaneum, offering an unparalleled glimpse into Roman attitudes toward sexuality. Frescoes from the Villa of the Mysteries and Lupanar (brothel) depict explicit scenes, suggesting that sexuality was not hidden but woven into public and private life. One of the most famous artifacts, the Priapus fresco, shows the god Priapus weighing his exaggerated phallus against a bag of money—a humorous but symbolic image of fertility and prosperity. Romans often associated large phallic imagery with protection, luck, and virility.Satire and Social Commentary in Roman EroticaWhile erotic art was common, Rome also saw moral pushback against sexual excess. Writers like Ovid (Metamorphoses, Ars Amatoria) celebrated love and seduction, while others, like Juvenal, satirized the decadence of Roman society. The Augustan moral reforms (1st century BCE) attempted to impose sexual restraint, yet erotic art continued to flourish, reflecting the contradictions within Roman attitudes toward pleasure.Erotic Art in Ancient India: The Sacred and the SensualEroticism in ancient India was deeply entwined with spirituality, particularly through Hinduism and Tantra. Unlike in the West, where sexuality was often seen in opposition to religious purity, Indian art frequently depicted sensuality as an extension of divine energy.Temple Eroticism: Khajuraho and KonarkThe Khajuraho temple complex (c. 950–1050 CE) and the Konark Sun Temple (c. 13th century CE) feature intricate sculptures of deities, lovers, and erotic acts. These reliefs, far from being mere decoration, reflect the Hindu belief that sexual union mirrors cosmic unity and divine creation. The Kama Sutra and Indian Erotic TextsAttributed to Vātsyāyana, the Kama Sutra (3rd century CE) is one of the most famous texts on love and eroticism. Contrary to its popular perception as a sex manual, it is a sophisticated treatise on pleasure, relationships, and aesthetics. Accompanying illustrations in later manuscripts helped visualize its teachings, making it one of the most influential works of erotic literature.Erotic Art in Ancient China: Daoism and Sensual BalanceIn China, erotic art was shaped by Confucian ideals, Daoist philosophy, and later Buddhist influences. While Confucianism promoted restraint, Daoism embraced sexuality as a path to harmony and longevity.Daoist Sexual Arts and Painted ScrollsDaoist texts, such as the "Art of the Bedchamber", describe sexual practices believed to extend life and health. Erotic scroll paintings from the Tang (618–907 CE) and Song (960–1279 CE) dynasties often depicted intimate scenes with poetic inscriptions, emphasizing sensuality rather than crude explicitness.Later, during the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1912) dynasties, erotic books known as "spring pictures" (春宫图) became popular among the elite, blending humor, philosophy, and eroticism.Japan's Shunga: The Floating World of SensualityJapanese erotic art, or Shunga (春画), flourished during the Edo period (1603–1868). These woodblock prints, created by masters such as Hokusai and Utamaro, depicted erotic encounters with both aesthetic refinement and explicit detail. Unlike in the West, where erotic art often faced suppression, Shunga was widely enjoyed across social classes.Shunga as Art, Satire, and InstructionShunga prints were not just pornographic; they served multiple purposes, including sexual education, humor, and even political satire. Some depicted fantastical elements, such as Hokusai's famous "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife", blending eroticism with mythology. Conclusion: Classical Eroticism as a Reflection of CultureThe erotic art of classical antiquity reveals a diversity of attitudes toward sexuality:Idealized beauty and divine connection – Greek and Roman art celebrated the nude as an emblem of perfection.Religious and cosmic symbolism – Hindu and Daoist traditions saw sexuality as a path to spiritual enlightenment.Humor and satire – Roman and Japanese art often infused eroticism with wit and social commentary. While some traditions embraced erotic art as sacred, others saw it as a source of indulgence or controversy. The tension between openness and censorship would continue to shape erotic art in the centuries to come. The Warren Cup (1st century CE, Roman) A silver drinking cup featuring detailed homoerotic scenes, the Warren Cup provides insight into Roman attitudes toward male-male relationships. Hidden for centuries, it is now a key artifact in LGBTQ+ art history.Khajuraho Temple Reliefs (10th–11th century CE, India)These intricate sculptures depict a range of erotic acts, reinforcing the Hindu belief in sexuality as a divine force. Unlike Western art, which often separated the sacred from the sensual, Khajuraho integrates both seamlessly. The Frescoes of the Villa of the Mysteries (1st Century BCE, Pompeii, Roman Empire)The Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii contains one of the most famous and enigmatic fresco cycles from ancient Rome. While not explicitly erotic, many scholars believe the images depict a Dionysian initiation ritual, potentially related to sacred sexuality and mystery cults. The frescoes feature semi-nude figures, suggestive interactions, and themes of divine ecstasy, linking sexuality to spiritual transformation. This example highlights how Romans often blended eroticism with religious and ritualistic themes rather than treating it as purely physical pleasure.Shunga by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806, Edo Period, Japan)Kitagawa Utamaro, one of the most celebrated ukiyo-e artists, created numerous Shunga (春画, "spring pictures"), which depicted intimate encounters with exquisite detail and elegance. His prints, such as Poem of the Pillow, emphasized the sensuality of touch, fabric, and movement, offering a refined and almost poetic take on erotic imagery. His work also often featured women's pleasure and agency, making it a significant contribution to the study of feminine desire in erotic art.#stencilart #originalart #investment art #blinkfrictionart #blinkfrictionfashion #reclaimart #reclaimfashion

The Stormy Skies can't stop watching Death Note, which means we've made it to the final arc of the series. That's right, with nine episodes left, L is dead, Rem is dead, and Light has done nothing to make him worthy of the adorable and perfect Misa Amane. There's also been a slight hiccup with our 2024 plans to do a Saw retrospective. As in, the series is no longer on Shudder. But there's no need to fear because it'll probably end up on Peacock. Like every other popular horror franchise these days. We also touch briefly on the unjust firing of Melissa Barrer from Scream 7 for tweeting the mildest take on the Palestinian Genocide. Which is that Genocide is bad. Because it is bad. Check the links below for ways to support Palestinian families during this crisis. Hard to believe it's our 5 year anniversary this month and the OGs are back together to celebrate. We have some water cooler talk about the writers strike and why it's important for LGBT fans to support. We then dive into an unofficial oral history of gays in procedural tv which leads to all things Kacy and how they're queering the procedural by flipping old queerbaiting tropes into the canon main romance of NCIS Hawai'i, the lesbian situationship that broke the fandom, and of course all the little things that caused one of us to fall in love with them. HAPPY PRIDE!
We read about what RFK Jr's abs mean for the country and the state of homoeroticism, and then we read a real listicle about books that Elon Musk says will make you a handsome genius. Join our discord -> discord.gg/WkuHgEckkX
The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Thomas P. Oates. An associate professor at the University of Iowa's School of Journalism and Communication, Dr. Oates's research interests include: sports coverage within magazines, newspapers, websites, video games, and videos. We'll discuss the Racist controversy surrounding this past week's NCAA Women's National Championship Game between Louisiana State University and the University of Iowa. The most watched game in women's college basketball history featured a starting White 5 against a starting black 5. When the LSU team of black ladies triumphed and trash-talked the losing White Women of Iowa... all manner of White Supremacy broke lose. Caitlin Clark, who played at a historically elite level during the tournament, went from the female Steph Curry... to just another White victim of a "classless," uppity black athlete. We'll ground this discussion in several of Dr. Oates published reports which examine manhood in basketball and football. Specifically, we'll discuss his 2007 analysis of "The [White] Erotic Gaze of the NFL Draft" as well as his exploration of the NCAA Men's tournament's usage of the Luther Vandross's rendition of "One Shining Moment." #TheMasters #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#
This fortnight, we're going east (and back in history) with fabulous historian Tuğçe Kayaal (Furman University). Tuğçe explains how she queers history and the archives, how she researches homoerotic intimacies in poetry and advice books, and what religion has to do with morals, relationships and friendships. She talks about the most frequently misunderstood aspects of the Ottoman empire and what it's like teaching homoeroticism in texts from the Middle East.If you want to learn more, why not follow @tkayaal and @queerlitpodcast on Twitter? Narcissus was a hunter from Thespiae in Boeotia who was known for his beauty. According to Tzetzes, he rejected all romantic advances, eventually falling in love with his own reflection in a pool of water, staring at it for the remainder of his life. After he died, in his place sprouted a flower bearing his name. This episode explores how aspects of psychoanalysis, in particular, gender, sexuality, visual pleasure, as well as self and other, are represented.Recommended Reading:Ovid, Metamorphoses This episode is able to be delivered to you in high quality because of the donation made by Donna Philips, Professor of Pro Tem at Citrus College, California. This episode is dedicated to Dr. Vincent Farenga, Professor of Classics at University of Southern California. In this episode, we provide a close reading of William Shakespeare's Sonnet 116, which allows us to consider the poem's definition of a love that is enduring. In addition, though, we consider a reading of the poem which foregrounds a disappointed poetic speaker who can see the love's transience, too. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the third study session on Ernest Tidyman's 1970 novel, SHAFT. Tidyman is a White man. He forged a distinguished journalism career working for The New York Times and Ohio's The Plain Dealer. In the midst of the so called Civil Rights Movement and the unrest of the 1960's, Tidyman decided to concoct a narrative around a black private detective named John SHAFT. This relatively short book sparked a half century of trashy films and a television program, and mightily influenced the thoughts, speech, action, emotions, and wardrobe of generations of black people. Gus has yet to hear of any black people who were aware that the SHAFT franchise is the spawn of a White Man. During the second session, Tidyman introduces Knox Parsons, a black criminal who hopes to hire shaft to find his missing daughter. The film portrays the missing black female as quiet and well-behaved. Tidyman describes her as a promiscuous, street-hustler. We're also introduced to Ben Buford, a black male "revolutionary," who seems to be Tidyman's composite of the many attempted counter-racist groups of the 1960's. Buford and his group do drugs, have no weapons, and are easily slaughtered by the White thugs who kidnapped Parsons's daughter. Tidyman includes fascinating commentary on the faithfulness and support of a good "dark woman," and has SHAFT remark on the so-called blackness of other Victims. #IsaacHayes INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE: 564943#

Tidyman greatly details the black body of John SHAFT, including scars received while fighting in Vietnam. Tidyman was reportedly unhappy that's SHAFT's veteran status was excised from the movie. When not being ogled by the White Men of New York, SHAFT has sexual intercourse with a White Woman. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on Ernest Tidyman's 1970 novel, SHAFT. This relatively short book sparked a half century of trashy films and mightily influenced the thoughts, speech, action, emotions, and wardrobe of generations of black people. Most of these victims are clueless that there favorite black action hero is the creation of a White man. Gus is excited to closely scrutinize a work that depicts SHAFT as a "bi-sexual" Vietnam veteran out to stick it to "The Man." The film adaptation of Tidyman's work is also a spectacular illustration of Racial Showcasing. The director was Gordan Parks, Richard Roundtree starred in the film, and Isaac Hayes' legendary soundtrack remains beloved and recognized a half century later. Hayes owns an Academy Award for his contributions to SHAFT. This franchise of films, along with the late Melvin Van Peebles, is credited with introducing the era of "Blaxploitation" films - cheaply made movies, bloated with crime and gratuitous sexual content, featuring mostly black characters. The fictional John SHAFT remains beloved by numerous black people well into the 21st century. #BlackMalePenis INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE: 564943#

Sexual Fantasies and Eroticism I know I say it often, but this topic is one of my favorites. In this episode, I talk with Dr. Justin Lehmiller about the all-important topic of sexual fantasies. Justin is a celebrated speaker, researcher, author, and a very effective educator on the psychology of sexuality. His blog Sex and Psychology (https://www.lehmiller.com/) gets millions of visitors every year, and he regularly contributes his writing to major publications. This talk about his research is guided by his expertise and experience in the field. The Most Common Sexual Fantasies Justin says that when he surveyed almost 4,200 Americans from 2014 to 2016, the most common fantasies encompassed 7 different themes. Multi-partner sex BDSM Novelty, Adventure & Variety Taboo activities Emotional connection and fulfillment Homoeroticism and gender-bending Non-monogamy Justin describes these as the building blocks of fantasies, meaning that they are not mutually exclusive and many overlap. For example, you can very well dip your toes into multiple categories in your own personal fantasy life. Are people ashamed of their fantasies? As Justin states, he found that men reported more shame about their fantasies than women. Overall, the majority of study participants reported that they held a positive relationship with their fantasies, but there were still some who felt negative emotions towards their fantasy. Another important thing he found during his research is that just sharing sexual fantasies can open up eroticism and alleviate feelings of embarrassment or shame for having certain fantasies. The Differences between Men and Women regarding fantasy Although the data showed that both sexes share a lot of commonalities, there were still some marked differences. Men had more multi-partner fantasies than women did. And women had more fantasies about an emotional connection with a partner. Women also had way more BDSM fantasies than men by a large margin. In addition, men usually had a specific person in mind during their fantasies, and the women focused more on the setting and environment overall. Justin also found that the LGBTQ community had more sexually adventurous fantasies, as well as taboo fantasies. Justin provides some insight into why women might like BDSM more than men, as well as the LGBTQ community and their sexual fantasy preferences. Listen in for that. Sexual Fantasy by Personality Type Justin shares some interesting insight into the correlation between personality type and sexual fantasy. For example, those who are more extroverted by nature will be more outgoing the bedroom. And for those who are ‘agreeable' personality types, there will be a higher incidence of focusing on their partner's sexual satisfaction in the bedroom. He also talks about what conscientiousness has to do with fantasies, as well as self-esteem. “Sometimes a Cigar is Just a Cigar” Justin says that sexual fantasies don't really have to mean all that much. They can offer a glimpse into something deeper, but for the most part, they are just a product of your environment and genetic makeup and can be left out of the examination room. Fantasies can be a good evaluative road map to follow for your own unique sexual satisfaction, though. But when talking about sexual traumas, there were small connections between sexual victimization and types of fantasies. But there was a lot of inconsistency in the data. Hear Justin explain the data on this subject. How to Share Your Fantasies with Your Partner Justin says that before you share with your partner, you first have to feel good about yourself. You aren't alone in your fantasies, so there's a normalization that needs to first occur. He says to lay low and start slow. A gradual buildup for disclosing your fantasies to your partner is much more powerful than an overwhelming information dump! He also goes into detail on how important sharing is for increasing overall sexual desire and satisfaction within the relationship. Multi-partner sex BDSM Novelty, Adventure & Variety Taboo activities Emotional connection and fulfillment Homoeroticism and gender-bending Non-monogamyJustin describes these as the building blocks of fantasies, meaning that they are not mutually exclusive and many overlap. The Differences between Men and Women regarding fantasyAlthough the data showed that both sexes share a lot of commonalities, there were still some marked differences. And for those who are ‘agreeable’ personality types, there will be a higher incidence of focusing on their partner’s sexual satisfaction in the bedroom. He also talks about what conscientiousness has to do with fantasies, as well as self-esteem. “Sometimes a Cigar is Just a Cigar” Justin says that sexual fantasies don’t really have to mean all that much. You aren’t alone in your fantasies, so there’s a normalization that needs to first occur. He says to lay low and start slow. A gradual buildup for disclosing your fantasies to your partner is much more powerful than an overwhelming information dump! LETS UNPACK THE BACKSTORY. No pun intended. Here's what I learned from a former guest, Dr. Tommy J. CurryWe, as a society, should conceptualize the Black male as a victim. Dr. Curry argues that Black men struggle with death and suicide, as well as abuse and rape, and their existence deserves study and theorization. READ THE BOOK Dr. Curry's book, The Man-Not, offers intellectual, historical, sociological, and psychological evidence that the analysis of patriarchy offered by mainstream feminism (including Black feminism) does not yet fully understand the role that homoeroticism, sexual violence, and vulnerability play in the deaths and lives of Black males. Curry challenges how we think of and perceive the conditions that actually affect all Black males.https://www.spreaker.com/user/valeriedenisejones
Dr. Martin Kevorkian returns to The Context of White Supremacy. A professor at the University of Texas Austin and author of Color Monitors: The Blackface of Technology in America, Dr. Kevorkian has been visiting The C.O.W.S. since 2009. We always appreciate hearing his views on White Supremacy in films and look forward his thoughts on a new set of movies. On this broadcast we'll review these four films: The Place Beyond The Pines (2013); The Big Lebowski (1998); I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore (2017); and Little Boxes (2016). Non-white actors have measly parts in these flicks as Melanie Lynskie, Jeff Bridges and Ryan Gosling take center stage. A major theme in these works - and most entertainment - celebrates White drug use, White violence and vigilante attacks. We'll pay special attention to the homoeroticism that saturates The Big Lebowski. As the film centers around White men bowling, we'll ask Dr. Kevorkian if Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's theory on the racial significance of bowling is corroborated in the Cohen brothers cult classic. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 9th and final study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but his book was posthumously published in 2014. University of Texas A&M's Dr. Tommy J. Curry strongly encouraged C.O.W.S. listeners to invest time studying Woodard's work - stressing the relevance of Woodard's research on the rape of black males. Last week's segment chastised "Afrocentric thinkers and leaders, such as Haki Madhubuti, Louis Farrakhan, Ben Jochannan, and Molefe Asante" for failing to embrace black male homoeroticism. Many listeners noted a suspiciously different tone to the sixth and final chapter - branding it "pornographic" in it's depiction of sexual activity. Woodard commits significant time to Toni Morrison's depiction of black males being sexual violated by white prison guards - this again represents how the rape of black males and female remains a core aspect of white culture. The Delectable Negro helps us understand modern events like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the rape and murder of Dione Payne, and "black man cookies". #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the eighth study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but his work was posthumously published in 2014. University of Texas A&M's Dr. Tommy J. Curry suggested this text on one his first visits to The C.O.W.S. - stressing the value of Woodard's analysis of the rape of black males. Last week's segment returned to Nat Turner's 1831 rebellion. The text focuses on William Styron's 1967 corrupt portrayal of Turner - portraying him engaged in "homosexual" activity. Gus noted a willingness to excuse Styron's dishonesty while scolding black males who rightly rejected Styron's work. Woodard explicitly and repeatedly indicts 1960's black males for being unable or unwilling to accept that homoerotic activity was a part of the enslavement of black people. A significant amount of the chapter diverted to discuss James Baldwin's work, his friendship with Styron, and his treatment by other black people. Many of the critiques seem similar to 21st century charges that black people are uniquely "homophobic." The Delectable Negro helps us comprehend modern events like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the rape and murder of Dione Payne, and "black man cookies". #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the seventh study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but this text was posthumously published in 2014. University of Texas A&M's Dr. Tommy J. Curry raved about this text on one his earliest visits to The C.O.W.S. - highlighting the importance of Woodard's exploration of the rape of black males. Last week's session continued the analysis of Harriet Jacob's Incidents In The Life of a Slave Girl. Woodard noted that US slave scholarship lacks accurate commentary on White Women's sexual violence against enslaved black females. Woodard emphasized that White Women would have learned from and witnessed generations of White men raping their black human property. Woodard writes that enslaved black females symbolized the "perfect emotional playground, the perfect vehicle through which young white women could work out and practice their need, their sexual hostility, and other types of aggression." Much like today, White Women, according to Woodard, nurtured and sustained "themselves by drawing upon the erotic and psychic energy of black women." Woodard also stressed how White kids began learning their role as plantation master as toddlers. The Delectable Negro helps us evaluate modern events like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the rape and murder of Dione Payne, and "black man cookies." #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the sixth study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but this book was posthumously published in 2014. author and scholar Dr. Tommy J. Curry highly recommended this book on one of his earliest C.O.W.S. interviews - highlighting the importance of Woodard's research on the rape of black males. Last week's session expamined the questionable suggestions that Frederick Douglass may have subscribed to a more "fluid" notion of gender and sexuality - positing that some of the metaphors in Douglass' fiction convey homoerotic messages. The session also covered Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl - one of the most popular slave memoirs published. Woodard stresses that Jacobs' work is essentially the only publication of the time period where anyone - much less a black female - openly discribes the rape of black males on the plantation. Woodard explores the psychological trauma of violent sexual emasculation - described by Woodard as when white masters treat black males like black women. Woodard continues to artfully indentify numerous examples of black bodies being "seasoned" and devoured by white "human fleshmongers." The Delectable Negro helps us process modern events like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, the rape and murder of Dione Payne, and "black man cookies." #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fifth study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but this book was posthumously published in 2014. University of Texas A&M's Dr. Tommy J. Curry informed C.O.W.S.' listeners about Woodard's work - emphasizing the importance of Woodard's research on the rape of black males. Last week's session examined the execution and consumption of 19th century freedom fighter Nat Turner as well as former slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Woodard stresses that Whites brutalized dozens of black people in Southhampton, Virginia - even those who had no knowledge of Turner's activities. Eating Turner's body and making family heirlooms from his remains, represents a core aspect of White culture. Woodard also examines the work of Frederick Douglass. Woodard speculates that Douglass was subjected to sexual abuse from White men on the plantation. This sexual violation along with Douglass' separation from his mother, exacted a lifelong tole on the revered orator.
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 4th study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but this book was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press explains the why this book was written; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard excavates primary sources, like the writings of Olaudah Equiano and Frederick Douglass, as well as black newspapers and slave advertisements from the antebellum period. Last week's session explored how an enslaved black male was literally quartered by his master as a form of discipline. Woodard also described multiple incidents where White sailors admitted to acts of cannibalism against black shipmates. Woodard stresses the White sense of shame about these events being publicized as well as the private White fraternity forged by the common experience of plundering and consuming black people. Many themes investigated in this book, are staple elements of White culture, visible in the 21st century - like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer or the delicious "black man cookies". The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 3rd study session on Vincent Woodard's The Delectable Negro: Human Consumption and Homoeroticism within US Slave Culture. Mr. Woodard died in 2008, but book was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press describes the void this book aims to fill; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard unearths primary sources, like the autobiographies of Olaudah Equiano and Frederick Douglass, as well as black newspapers and slave advertisements from the antebellum period. Last week's session provided a comprehensive re-examination of how black bodies were literally and figuratively devoured by Whites during slavery. In one of the most profound segments of the text, Woodard writes: "Elaborating on the culinary connotations of the word â??seasoningâ?? (season: â??to heighten or improve the avor of food by adding condiments, spices, herbs, or the likeâ??), I link the physically brutal culture of seasoning to the parallel development of erotic appetites, tastes, and aesthetic longings for the black male. This broader understanding of seasoning is important, as it helps explain how institutional processes, such as Christian indoctrination, male fraternal love and bonding, and the acquisition of literacy facilitated the social consumption of the Negro and the creation of a high cultural premium upon African flesh." Many of the ideas examined in this text are staple elements of White culture, visible in the 21st century - evidenced in the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer or the delicious "black man cookies". #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943#

Mr. Woodard passed away in 2008, but his work was posthumously published in 2014. NYU Press describes the void this book written to fill; "Scholars of US and transatlantic slavery have largely ignored or dismissed accusations that Black Americans were cannibalized." Woodard excavates primary sources, like the writings of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs, as well as antebellum black newspapers and slave advertisements. Last week's session provided a comprehenisve outline of what The Delectable Negro intends to cover. There was a particular emphasis on the sexual and exploitative environment of the plantation, the colony, the world. The introduction assertively concludes that enslavement and colonization of dark people was a sexually gratifying experience for Whites. Male and female black bodies were literally and figuratively devoured. Many themes explored in this book are staple elements of White culture, visible in the 21st century - like convicted serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer or the delicious "black man cookies". #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p

Being the second instalment in Will Ferrell's 'Mediocre American Male' film trilogy, we deconstruct the ways in which this sub-genre of comedy mocks conservative American culture, most especially the presidency of George W. Bush and the mainstream conservative value system. We also look at the 'Sabido Method' of transposing social norms through screenplay, along with other tricks of stagecraft such as the use of comedic extremes, real-word references, and self-satirical product placement. Main Topic: Series 7 Rewatch Part One: General thoughts about what we'd like to see in Series 8. Series 7 episodes as mini-movies. Breakneck pacing. Discussing "Asylum of the Daleks." Amy's character feels random for Shana. Oswin is a wonderful character... if this was her only episode. "Ood on the loo." A marriage breaks up in a sixty-second short. Rory/Amy/Doctor love triangle. The worst episode ending with "...of the Daleks." The Daleks are wasted here. Ballerina Dalek. Introducing Oswin Oswald. "Total Screaming Genius." Whendonesque funny quips. Mugging for the camera. The New Robomen? Human allies of the Daleks. Robot henchmen in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Homoeroticism between Amy and Nefertiti? Why are Nefertiti and Riddell even in this episode? The childish sex-negative Doctor. The villain and the narrative both treat Nefertiti as an object. Hating only the first half of Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Wishing Amy and Rory had been written out at the end of Series 6. Rory and Brian are awesome. Robert Holmes died thirty years ago. Effects and makeup in Dinsouars on a Spaceship. Side characters in Doctor Who. The kick the dinosaur moment. The Doctor kills Solomon. Caught between two factions. Meeting Brian. Wishing for more of the Silurians. Shana's initial thoughts on A Town Called Mercy and Nazi allegory. Daniel loves Westerns and Western tropes. Character inconsistencies in Moffat-era Who. Avoiding overt sexism by removing all the female characters! Reading our quote from A Town Called Mercy a bit early so we can discuss it. Mobs are the most evil thing in the universe. On the nose writing. Ranking these three in terms of quality. Transgender issues in A Town Called Mercy. Calling out a few things we liked in these three episodes. We decided to try something new this week. Aside from Jake not being there (we was missed), we watched a film that is not known for being baaaaad, just totally ridiculous; Zack Snyder's 2006 film, "300".
Joining John and me this week is Boston Phoenix film critic and Albany Times-Union blogger Peg Aloi. Our objective: discuss the new Anthony Hopkins thriller The Rite and the Javier Bardem melodrama Biutiful. Then John and I discuss the Jason Statham/Ben Foster actioner The Mechanic - in which I (attempt to) explain The Mechanic's unintentional homoeroticism. Such fun.We then offer our picks of the week. I recommend the new Blu-ray release of Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull. Peg says The Last Exorcism and the Red Riding Trilogy are worth your time. And John implores you to view Man in a Suitcase, which is also new to DVD.We recorded live at Panera Bread, next to the Regal Fenway 13 Theater in Boston.Enjoy! The total running time is about 52:39Visit the Post-Movie Podcast online at Post-Movie.netIntro music by Stereo Soul Future (stereosoulfuture.com).Questions? This week we managed to get a real live girl on the podcast to help get rid of most of the Homoeroticism but it didn't seem to help all that much.
This week we were able to record at our normal time for a change. It was a bit weird though. We covered the normal subjects; Death, Destruction, Cars, and Boobs.
