In this solo episode, I'm breaking down one of the most talked-about tools in the health optimization world right now—peptides. From healing faster to building lean muscle, improving fat loss, enhancing sleep, and even slowing down the aging process… peptides are powerful. But they're also misunderstood, under-regulated, and often misused. So in this episode, I'm walking you through exactly what peptides are, how they work, the most popular ones in each category, and both the pros and cons of using them. This is a no-BS, educational breakdown of everything you need to know before exploring peptides as a tool for better health, performance, or aesthetics. I also cover some legal and sourcing realities—because here's the truth: most peptides aren't FDA-approved, and you'll only find them labeled for “research purposes only.” This isn't an endorsement. It's a breakdown to help you make smarter, more informed decisions.   What I Cover in This Episode: What peptides are and how they're different from hormones or steroids Legal disclaimers and how they're commonly sourced Growth hormone peptides: CJC-1295, Ipamorelin, MK-677 Fat loss peptides: AOD 9604 and Tesamorelin Healing peptides: BPC-157 and TB-500 Anti-aging + cognitive peptides: GHK-Cu (Copper peptide), Epitalon, Semax, Selank Mitochondrial optimizer: MOTS-c and why it's a game-changer for metabolic health How to stack peptides and what to avoid Side effects, risks, and what to consider before diving in   Links & References: Biological Activities and Safety of Citrus spp. Essential Oils - Click Here Essential role of TRPC6 channels in G2/M phase transition and development of human glioma - Click Here   Final Take: Peptides can be a powerful tool—but they're not a magic bullet. If you're training hard, eating right, sleeping well, and want to push to the next level, they might offer that extra edge. We're finally back after a pause since January, and we're kicking things off with a thrilling dive into hormones—specifically, how testosterone and other key hormones keep us energized, sharp, and healthy. Dr. Cristina Romero-Bosch and Dr. John A. Robinson explain how modern life has pummeled our hormones for generations, thanks to poor diets, environmental toxins, lack of sleep, and chronic stress. Thankfully, taking control of what we eat, shedding excess weight, watching our iron levels, and using cold exposure can boost testosterone naturally. And yes, ladies need testosterone, too—just in the right dosage. We also tackle hot topics like semen retention versus frequent ejaculation for prostate health and how peptides like BPC-157 or Ipamorelin can support hormone production (but only when combined with a smart lifestyle). If you're looking into long-term hormone replacement therapy, remember: it's about the marathon, not the sprint. Test regularly, start small, and avoid guesswork.Key Takeaways: • Testosterone isn't just a “male” hormone—both sexes rely on it. • Clean eating, movement, and less stress pay huge hormonal dividends. • Keep an eye on iron—high ferritin can zap testosterone. • Find balance when it comes to ejaculation frequency. • Peptides and hormone therapy work best when you nail the basics first.Links:DERRICKTikTok:https://www.tiktok.com/@drderrickInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/derrickbhines/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/@DrDerrick

Peptide Stacking

The Peptide Podcast

Today, we're talking about a hot topic in the world of fitness and wellness: peptide stacking. Whether you're looking to build lean muscle, burn fat, enhance recovery, or boost cognitive function, peptide stacking could be a game-changer. But, just like anything, it's important to know the ins and outs of how it works and how to “stack” safely. What is Peptide Stacking? So, what is peptide stacking, and how can it benefit you? Let's break it down. At its core, peptide stacking refers to the practice of combining different peptides to maximize their individual effects and synergize their benefits. Keep in mind, there's no "magic" stack that works for everyone. Each stack is chosen based on the person's symptoms or what effect they want to achieve. The concept is pretty similar to stacking supplements or combining different types of training programs. When done right, stacking peptides can enhance muscle growth, accelerate fat loss, improve recovery, and boost cognitive function. But, not all peptides play well together, and some shouldn't be mixed. We'll dive into those potential issues in a bit. First, let's talk about the benefits of stacking. What Are the Potential Benefits of Stacking Peptides? So, what are the benefits of stacking peptides? First off, synergistic effects – when peptides work together, they can boost each other's impact, helping with muscle growth and speeding up recovery time. Then, there's the ability to tackle multiple goals at once. Whether you're focusing on fat loss, building muscle, or even improving brain function, stacking peptides lets you work on a few things at the same time. Lastly, customization is a big perk. You can adjust your stack based on your specific needs and make changes as your body adapts, so you're always on track to reach your goals.   What Are Some Risks of Peptide Stacking? Some peptides shouldn't be mixed, as they can cause negative effects or reduce each other's effectiveness. For example, combining GHRP-6 (stimulates growth hormone) with somatostatin (inhibits growth hormone) would be counterproductive. Also, stacking too many peptides affecting the same pathways could overwhelm your system, leading to side effects like insulin resistance or excessive GH levels.  Popular Peptide Stacks While there are countless peptide therapies and hundreds of possible stack combinations that can offer great benefits, I can't cover them all, but let's dive into some of the most common and effective peptide stacks for different goals. Building Lean Muscle Mass: If you're aiming to pack on lean muscle, a great stack to try is CJC-1295 with DAC + Ipamorelin + BPC-157. This combo helps release growth hormone and boosts muscle recovery. But if you really want to take it up a notch, adding MK-677 to the mix is a game-changer. MK-677 is a growth hormone secretagogue that mimics ghrelin, the hunger hormone, which not only increases growth hormone levels but also helps with muscle growth and fat loss. One of the best things about MK-677 is its ability to stimulate appetite, which is perfect for anyone who's training hard but struggles to eat enough calories and protein. If you have a naturally low appetite, MK-677 can make it much easier to consume the fuel you need for muscle growth and recovery. Fat Loss: For fat loss, MOTS-c + Semaglutide is a great stack. MOTS-c helps with fat metabolism, and Semaglutide helps control appetite, making it easier to stick to a calorie-restricted diet for sustainable fat loss. Another effective stack is CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin + Semaglutide. The CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin combo promotes growth hormone release, which supports fat burning and muscle preservation, while Semaglutide helps control hunger, making fat loss a little easier. If belly fat is a particular concern, consider Tesamorelin + Semaglutide. Tesamorelin boosts growth hormone, especially around the abdominal area, reducing visceral fat (that deep belly fat). This stack is great for targeting stubborn belly fat while still promoting overall fat loss. Recovery & Healing: When it comes to recovery, BPC-157 + TB-500 is an incredible combo. BPC-157 is known as the king of healing peptides. It helps speed up tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and regenerate muscles, ligaments, and tendons. TB-500 works alongside it to promote wound healing and cell regeneration, further reducing inflammation and speeding up recovery from injuries. Together, these peptides help you heal faster and get back to your workouts with less downtime. Cognitive Function: If you're looking to boost your brainpower, Cerebrolysin + Semax is a solid stack. Cerebrolysin enhances brain function by promoting neuroplasticity and stimulating growth factors to protect and regenerate brain cells, improving memory and mental clarity. On the other hand, Semax enhances memory, reduces stress, and improves focus by increasing BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). A great approach is to use Semax daily for consistent cognitive benefits and Cerebrolysin on alternate days for neuroprotection and brain regeneration. This way, you're supporting your brain health and mental performance consistently. Peptide stacking can be an incredibly powerful tool when used correctly, helping you achieve your fitness, recovery, and cognitive goals faster and more efficiently. However, it's vital to understand the potential risks and make sure you're combining peptides that complement each other rather than counteracting each other's effects. Always be mindful of the peptides you're stacking. Thanks for listening to The Peptide Podcast. If you found this episode helpful, be sure to subscribe and leave a review. Dr. Bikman's Metabolic Classroom lecture this week explores peptides and their effects on metabolism, fat loss, muscle growth, and overall health.Ben begins by defining peptides as short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the body. While some peptides occur naturally, others are synthetically developed for therapeutic purposes. He explains that peptides are gaining popularity in fitness, anti-aging, and metabolic health, influencing fat loss, muscle repair, insulin sensitivity, and even skin regeneration. He also introduces collagen peptides, highlighting their unexpected metabolic benefits, including their influence on GLP-1 and gut microbiome health.Ben then categorizes peptides based on their primary functions. For fat loss, peptides like CJC-1295 and Tesamorelin work by stimulating growth hormone and IGF-1, promoting fat breakdown while preserving muscle mass. Another peptide, Melanotan-2, originally known for increasing melanin, has been found to suppress appetite by affecting the melanocortin system. He also discusses peptides like Ipamorelin, which help enhance muscle recovery and growth by selectively increasing growth hormone secretion without affecting other pituitary hormones. In the anti-aging and skin health category, Thymosin Beta-4 stands out for its ability to enhance wound healing and tissue repair. Dr. Bikman also highlights the unexpected metabolic role of collagen peptides, explaining how they can increase GLP-1 levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and even activate AMPK, a crucial metabolic regulator involved in fat breakdown and cellular repair. Finally, he touches on how peptides are administered—most commonly via subcutaneous injections, though some peptides can be absorbed sublingually or applied topically. He cautions that not all peptides are created equal, warning against low-quality or counterfeit products. Ben emphasizes the need for high-quality sourcing and careful monitoring, as some peptides affect hormone levels and require medical supervision.Dr. Bikman concludes that peptides hold immense potential for metabolic health, fitness, and longevity, but should be used wisely and responsibly.Show Notes/References:For complete show notes and references referred to in this episode, we invite you to become a Ben Bikman Insider subscriber. Peptides help the body function properly, working a lot like hormones. Some, like Sermorelin and Ipamorelin, support natural growth hormone production for anti-aging and healing. Others, like BPC-157 and TB-500, are great for brain, gut, and joint health. GLP-1 peptides can help with fat loss, but they need to be used correctly to avoid issues like muscle loss or mood changes. There are also peptides with more specific benefits, like HCG, which can help restore fertility, and Melanotan II, which boosts tanning and may protect the skin. The key takeaway is that peptides can be really effective, but they need to be used with the right knowledge and approach to get the best results.Highlights of the Podcast00:05 - Peptides Overview01:48 - Growth & Healing Peptides04:46 - GLP-1 Peptides & Fat Loss09:08 - HCG & Fertility10:38 - Melanotan II for Skin12:25 - Optimizing Peptide Use

Today we're going to talk about the importance of sleep and different peptide therapy options available to help with sleep.  Before we talk about why sleep is so important, I think it's necessary to go over what happens during sleep. When we're sleeping, we go through several sleep cycles. And, in each of these sleep cycles, you go through different stages of sleep.  There are two main stages of sleep: rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep.  After you fall asleep, your sleep cycles will mostly be NREM sleep. During this time, you'll have three sleep phases: two light and a deep sleep phase.   After you've been asleep for about 6 hours, most of your sleep will be REM sleep. This is the stage when you are dreaming occurs.  So what is the importance of this? Deep sleep and REM sleep help your body in different ways. Deep sleep helps your body heal. Research has shown that muscle growth, tissue repair, and growth hormone release occur during deep sleep. It's also shown that REM sleep is vital for learning new information, brain development, and emotional regulation.  How much sleep do you need? Individual sleeping requirements can vary depending on age, overall health, medications, underlying sleep disorders, and lifestyle. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults ages 18 to 60 should get 7 or more hours per night while adults 61 to 64 should get 7 to 9 hours per night. If you're 65 years and older, getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night is recommended. Not only is it important to get the correct amount of sleep, but your body also needs quality sleep. But how can you know if you've had good sleep? You can usually define your sleep quality by how you feel the next day.  If you wake up feeling well-rested, energized, and refreshed, it's likely because you've had quality sleep.  What can affect sleep quality? Many things can affect your sleep quality ranging from medical conditions (e.g., chronic pain, anxiety, depression) to the medications you take or just having a stressful day at home or work. But trying to create a sleep-friendly environment by avoiding technology before bed and avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed may help. What happens if you don't get enough sleep? Let's face it. It's normal to have occasional sleepless nights. Maybe you had a stressful day at work, a sick family member, or one too many cocktails at your friend's party. The next day, you wake up feeling groggy and irritated and unable to concentrate at work. The good news is that this feeling shall pass. But for some people, the physical health problems associated with sleeping problems (lack of sleep for 3 months or longer), increase their risk of depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and unintentional weight gain. They can also have decreased immune function and get sick more often. What peptides may help with sleep problems? DSIP (Delta Sleep-Induced Peptide) has been shown to promote delta wave sleep (deep sleep). In studies, disturbed sleep was normalized when injections of DSIP were given. Better performance and increased alertness were seen during awake cycles, along with improved stress tolerance and coping behavior.   Selank is typically used as an "anti-anxiety" peptide. It does this by enhancing the effects of GABA, thus reducing anxiety. But it also increases serotonin levels. Serotonin influences our appetite and mood and regulates our sleep-wake cycle. Low serotonin levels can lead to depression and insomnia. Therefore, if you take Selank and increase your serotonin levels, you may improve your sleep balance. As we get older, growth hormone secretion decreases. As a result, it's common for aging people to experience a decline in strength and energy as well as other age-related changes like increased body fat, decreased lean muscle mass, loss of skin elasticity, and poor sleep. Growth hormone-releasing hormones (or GHRHs) like CJC 1295 and Tesamorelin and growth hormone-releasing peptides (GHRPs) like Ipamorelin promote the increase in growth hormone and enhance sleep quality. See all the Healthcasts at https://www.biobalancehealth.com/healthcast-blog The best way to decrease you risk of developing illness and cancer, as well as a cancer recurrence, is to get your immune system as healthy as possible. Everyone's body makes cancer cells daily, but your amazing immune system protects you by killing them before they multiply. The key to preventing chronic illness, cancer, and a cancer recurrence, infections such as viruses or bacteria, and chronic fatigue is to turn the clock backwards to when you were young and your immune system's “power center”, the thymus gland, was large and active.  The thymus gland makes T Killer and T helper white blood cells that kill cancer and bacteria.  The thymus gland is key to your immune system, and it shrinks with age.  It is large and active when we are children and gets smaller and less active as we age. After age 60 you may notice that people get sicker and that is when they have the most frequent cancer diagnoses. The thymus gland can be stimulated again by “feeding” it and stimulating it into action again. The best way to improve your immune system's health and reverse the thymus's aging process is to make your thymus more active, like it was when you were younger. The best way to achieve this is to replace testosterone, stimulate growth hormone (if necessary), eat healthy food and avoid unhealthy food, add daily exercise to your lifestyle, achieve ideal weight, take supplements, and use immune-boosting peptides like Thymosin alpha-1 or Thymulin and or take medications like Metformin ER. The following lists are meant to be helpful for you to improve the status of your immune system. Medications/Hormone Prescriptions that improve Immunity: Testosterone pellets and injections Metformin ER 500 mg-2,000 mg Thymosin alpha-1 peptide (currently unavailable) Thymulin peptide Peptides that stimulate the Growth Hormone. Eg. Sermorelin, Ipamorelin, CJC.. Supplements that Support your Immune System & Recommended Daily Dosing: Vitamin C - 1,000 mg/day Vitamin D3 - 5,000 IU/day Zinc - 30-50 mg/day Methyl-B Complex from BioBalance Health - 1 /day Magnesium Glycinate or Magnesium Complex from BioBalance Health - 400-800/day N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) from BioBalance Health – 1800 mg/day Inositol 1-2 grams a day Choline 425-550 per day Glutathione (given im, IV optimally) 50-600 mg/day orally (20-40 mg/kg of body weight 3 x a day) Airborn® Diet: Lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, and animal protein (meat and milk products) Citrus fruit Limit caffeine to no more than 2 cups/day Avoid sugar, synthetic sugars (Saccharin, Equal®), alcohol, gluten, and processed foods Avoid preservatives, and food coloring/dyes (especially Red #40 & Yellow #5) Exercise: Doing 45min of cardio per day or more is optimal! Add weight training for the whole body. Red Light Therapy: 20 minutes a day stimulates the mitochondria to make more immune cells, and to activate them. Sunshine: 45-60min/day is optimal! No sunglasses or sunscreen. Medications to AVOID: Statins Steroids Drugs that treat autoimmune disease called biologics Medical Treatments to avoid if possible that Suppress the Immune System Immune suppressants Treatments for autoimmune diseases Cancer treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy Habits and substances to avoid that suppress the immune response (the thymus gland and the cells that it produces.  Avoid the habits and environmental substances that follow: All types of tobacco products Smoking anything—tobacco, THC, etc. causes the lungs to be damaged and to carry carcinogens into the body. You can put an air purifier in your home and or office. Alcohol, yes including wine and beer (they are toxins) Drugs not prescribed by a doctor and some that are prescribed by a doctor. See “Medications to Avoid” above. Fast food Sugar, honey, simple carbohydrates that raise the blood sugar Inactivity Short lengths of sleeping. Humans need at least 7 hours of sleep. Night work/shift work Indoor light > outdoor sun light Tap water that contains chemicals and fluoride--only drink purified water Use of chemicals on your lawn and pesticides in and outside of your home because they are carcinogens No one can avoid all bad habits and substances that block your production of White Blood cells and protect you from cancer, autoimmune diseases and infections, however you can take steps to improve your immune system to decrease your chance of these diseases. The most important change you can make that protects you with just one change is to replace testosterone with bioidentical pellets, if you are over 40 years old. Testosterone in pellet form is the one hormonal replacement that will improve your immune status more than any other single treatment or supplement. So what is stopping you from preventing future illness and suffering?

The Peptide Podcast

Today we are talking about MK-677, what it's for, and its potential benefits. All this and more in less than 2 minutes.  What is MK-677? MK-677 also called Ibutamoren is an ORAL growth hormone-releasing peptide (GHRP) peptide therapy. We've talked about these types of peptides before when we discussed Ipamorelin. Unlike Ipamorelin it's taken by mouth and remains active for about 24 hours.  MK-677 increases growth hormone levels resulting in increased energy, lean muscle mass and strength, and improved sleep and muscle recovery.  It can also help decrease body fat by stimulating the production of insulin-like growth factor (or IGF-1). IGF-1 is a hormone that's similar in molecular structure to insulin and plays an important role in childhood growth and has anabolic effects (or muscle-building effects) in adults.  MK-677 works by stimulating the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. The body will then increase its own growth hormone production. Over time, the body repairs itself and the aging process is slowed down.  How to use? MK-677 is given as an oral tablet by mouth before bedtime or at dinner with a large meal. It's suggested that this peptide be used no longer than 8 to 12 weeks. Studies suggest prolonged use does not provide continuous release of growth hormone. Further studies are needed. Possible side effects? MK-677 also causes an increase in ghrelin, the “hunger hormone”. This hormone is released by the stomach and small intestine and stimulates appetite and promotes fat storage. But this hunger side effect tends to lessen when it's taken at bedtime or with a large meal. You should tell your healthcare provider about any side effects you experience.  You can find more information at pepties.com.  That's peptides without the D. The Peptide Podcast

Today we are talking about CJC 1295 and its potential benefits. All this and more in less than 2 minutes.  An excellent example of the ability peptides have to work together with our own bodies comes from a few of the most commonly used peptides available for anti-aging: growth hormone-releasing hormones (or GHRHs) and growth hormone-releasing peptides (GHRPs).  As you know, aging is essentially our bodies breaking down at the cellular level. As we age, we deal with things like decreased muscle mass, decreased immune function, a decreased sex drive, increased skin issues, change in mood, the list goes on and on.  All of this along with depression, and many more unwanted effects seem to inevitably come as part of the aging process. Some of this dysfunction can be treated with GHRH peptides like CJC-1295 or GHRP peptides like Ipamorelin or a combination of BOTH! Today we are going to focus on CJC 1295. What is CJC 1295? CJC 1295 is a lab-made peptide hormone, primarily functioning as a GHRH or amplifier. In simple terms, the peptide increases protein synthesis, human growth hormone (aka HGH) secretion, and insulin-like growth factor (or IGF-1).  IGF-1 is a hormone that's similar in molecular structure to insulin and plays an important role in childhood growth and has anabolic effects (or muscle-building effects) in adults.  What are the BENEFITS?  CJC 1295 is useful to those looking to increase lean muscle mass and strength by stimulating the release of growth hormone. It also promotes muscle recovery as it boosts protein synthesis levels and helps the growth of muscle tissues resulting in quicker recovery times for athletes and those with injuries. And because it stimulates the production of IGF-1, it can help decrease body fat and increase natural strength. Compared to other peptide therapies, CJC 1295 has a longer half-life of 30 minutes which requires fewer peptide injections and results in the continual release of growth hormone.  It also has minimal effect on cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that's released into your bloodstream when your body undergoes stress. This hormone causes an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure. It's your natural “fight or flight” response. However, over time, if your body experiences repeated stress, you may begin to feel tired, irritable, depressed, and even experience weight gain.   BUT DOES IT WORK? Peptide therapies are not miracles in a bottle. They don't guarantee desired results. Like anything in life, you must also make lifestyle changes when it comes to certain desired outcomes. For example, a poor diet and lack of exercise can have a negative impact on your health and cause weight gain, joint pain, and can even lead to type 2 diabetes. Peptide therapy in addition to healthy lifestyle choices can help you achieve your health goals! Possible side effects include redness or itching at the injection site. You should tell your healthcare provider about any side effects you think you may be experiencing.  You can find more information at pepties.com.  That's peptides without the D. Today we are talking about Ipamorelin and its potential benefits. All this and more in less than 2 minutes.  What is Ipamorelin? Ipamorelin is a lab-made, primarily functioning as a growth hormone-releasing peptide (GHRP) or inducer. Ipamorelin works by mimicking the body's natural release of growth hormone release. It does this by increasing the number of somatotrophs (or cells responsible for growth hormone release) and it suppresses somatostatin (a growth hormone inhibiting hormone).  Ipamorelin is often used in combination with CJC 1295 because they work well together. This combination will promote the increase of growth hormone and is used for anti-aging purposes and in people with inflammatory conditions or those who have low IGF-1 levels. So what are the benefits? Like CJC 1295, Ipamorelin is useful to those looking to increase lean muscle mass and strength by stimulating the release of growth hormone. It also promotes muscle recovery from workouts and helps the growth of muscle tissues resulting in quicker recovery times. Ipamorelin also leads to increased energy, improvements in sleep, and bone density. BUT DOES IT WORK?  Like we said last week…Peptide therapies are not miracles in a bottle. They don't guarantee desired results. Like anything in life, you must also make lifestyle changes when it comes to certain desired outcomes. For example, a poor diet and lack of exercise can have a very negative impact on your health and cause weight gain, skin issues, joint pain, and can even lead to type 2 diabetes. We often associate illnesses and pains with old age. But our guest today reveals that the real cause of health problems is how you've lived your life. Accumulated amounts of stress can change our bodies down to the cellular level. Luckily, scientific discoveries such as peptide therapy can help our cells function better. Age is not the issue. If you take care of yourself, being older can mean being at the peak of your performance.  In this episode, Dr William Seeds joins us to discuss how our cells function and how epigenetic influences can harm our bodies. He shares how peptides and peptide therapy play a crucial role in keeping ourselves healthy and treating injuries and illnesses! As we age, our bodies slowly lose their ability to perform specific functions, including growth hormone production. But with the right intervention, including peptide therapy, a 100-year-old can produce just as many growth hormones as someone a quarter their age!  If you want to learn more about peptide therapy and how to age gracefully, then this episode is for you! Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Understand that taking care of our cells and helping them function properly is essential to living a healthier life.  Discover why diseases are not a function of age but how we have experienced life and accumulated negative influences on our cells.   Learn the importance of growth hormones and how peptides and peptide therapy can help with the neuroplasticity of our brains.  Resources Gain exclusive access and bonuses to Pushing the Limits Podcast by becoming a patron!  Peptide Protocols: Volume One by William Seeds  Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach by Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw Pearson Chemistry by Drew Chan, Richard Hecker, Bob Hogendoorn, Kathryn Hiller, Louise Lennard, Mick Moylan, Pat O'Shea, Maria Porter, Patrick Sanders, Paul Waldron, Jim Sturgiss   Boulder Longevity Institute  Want to learn more from Dr William Seeds? Episode Highlights [05:29] William's Background and His Father's Death William used to train with his father when he was a young athlete.  Unfortunately, he lost his father on the track right before his eyes. He could not do anything to save him.  His life changed drastically afterwards. As the eldest sibling, he had to take charge.  William questioned how someone could seem like they're in the best of health but die so early. This thought led him to learn more about biochemistry and molecular biology.  In the full episode, he shares the one book that jump-started his interest in biology and chemistry.   [09:15] Shifting from Business to Medical School William shares that he was a business major, but he spent most of his college days researching and reading more about biochemistry.  He became so good that he started helping people with their biology classes.   When he graduated from business school, he knew that his path was in medicine. Along the way, he faced people telling him that he couldn't do it.  However, he found a way to enter medical school by taking accelerated classes during the summer. These classes let him qualify for the entrance exam.  People's advice, even disbelief, can help us achieve the impossible. Listen to the full episode to learn more about William's shift and how he even got early admission!   [16:59] The Value of Constant Learning When William went into medical school, there were many things that didn't make sense to him. So he used to argue and get in trouble.  He observed that the cell is more important than we give it credit for. While it's good to know its components, it's more important to understand how we can use it to treat illnesses.  His work on nutrition and the cell built his orthopedic career and research on peptides. Eventually, he taught others about the application of peptides in their practices.  Learning is not about being smart; it's about constantly working hard to gain and build knowledge.   You have the power to explore what interests you and build expert-level knowledge based on the research you can find online. [25:32] What Are Peptides?  Peptides are signalling agents that help maintain cellular health.  There are many different names of peptides, depending on how and where they are made. They can be called hormones, enzymes, or more.  Some of the most significant scientific discoveries started with the study of peptides. For example, insulin is one of the major peptides discovered back in the 1920s.  Peptides may seem complicated, but you can make people understand them.  William encourages everyone to learn more about it to make better decisions for their health, but it is the job of empowered people to educate people.  [34:20] Peptide Therapy and Epigenetics Our genetics are unchangeable, but epigenetic influences can change how our cells transcribe and translate our gene's instructions.  Epigenetic influences include things that affect us every day, like stress, aging, disease, and more.  The work that William does, including peptide therapy, is all about epigenetics.  Cells have their own intelligence. We just need to give them the ability to correct themselves.  For instance, we need to maintain cellular redox — the thermodynamics of the cell. [37:02] What Happens When a Cell is Not Performing Well When epigenetic influences harm the cells' performance, they become senescent cells.  Our bodies are programmed to kill these unhealthy cells, but this doesn't happen all the time.  Senescent cells are the key to aging and diseases.  When these cells establish themselves in the body, it is hard to get rid of them, especially since they can build up over time.    [41:48] Aging and Growth Hormones As we age, the brain loses the capacity to release the same amount of growth hormone, which is the master regulator of our body.  By the age of 30, we experience a slow decline in how much growth hormone we can produce, which decreases even more with age.  However, you will never lose the capacity to create growth hormones.  What dictates this production are the events in your life that affect your body and whether you have a buildup of senescent cells.  Peptides and peptide therapy can help you regain the ability to release endogenous growth hormones based on your body's demand.  [44:29] How to Increase Growth Hormones There are over 100 types of growth hormones. Each one is released based on the body's demand.   Cells can recognise if synthetic growth hormones do not match the demand, and this can be harmful.  One way we naturally release growth hormones is during sleep.  [48:22] The Value of Growth Hormones  Peptides can help not only with improving the increase of growth hormones but also with neuroplasticity.  Certain peptides have specific uses. For example, Ipamorelin allows the secretion of growth hormone within 20 minutes of usage. This is typically used before sleeping and upon waking.  Brain injuries tend to shut down more growth hormones. This goes to show how improving brain function involves many levels. Senescent cells suppress the stem cells' ability to perform repairs and can convert stem cells to senescent stem cells. Listen to the full episode to learn more about growth hormone pathways and how they improve function!  [53:07] Age is Not the Issue Even if neural pathways have been damaged, the brain can build new ones.  Age is not an issue; older people can still produce new neural pathways.  There are a lot of aspects needed to create these pathways. It involves timing, planning, building momentum, and supplements. The gut plays an important role in recovering from brain injuries since it makes a lot of neurotransmitters. You also need to look at the cell membrane because you can lose certain phospholipids vital to conduction in axons and how neurons work. [56:49] There is Hope William's goal is to help people have enough knowledge to know that they can prevent themselves from things like a traumatic brain injury.  Certain diseases take time to incubate, so you won't even know you're in its path until it's too late.  We must take advantage of the knowledge that we can improve our cell's functions: we can change a cell to be more protective, more efficient, and keep it that way.  We should aim to live our lives to the fullest capacity, no matter our age. William shares that even though he is already in his 60s, his capacity is at its peak.   7 Powerful Quotes [29:25] ‘If anybody tells you something is too complicated, you have to have a PhD to understand that, right away, you should call bullshit because it means [they] just can't teach well.' [29:48] 'We all have the same capability of understanding. So our job is to educate people of what they have out there and not to keep them thinking they can't learn this.'  [44:58] ‘The cell knows what to make when the body has the demand.' [50:21] ‘Growth hormone has some tremendous downstream effects that are effective in so many ways, in helping people regain the ability to improve cellular metabolism in the brain.' [57:32] ‘We can change a cell to be more protective, more efficient, and keep that cell.' [57:41] ‘We're not looking to live at 150 years of age… We're looking to live every day of our lives at our fullest capacity.' [58:13] ‘There is just so much that people deserve to know that they can be doing it, that they can change their lives no matter what state they're in.' The environment that we have created through modernization is decimated. People in the Midwest now have phosphate and Atrazine in their cells because of fertilizer. When your endocrine system is not functioning optimally you have hormonal declines. Men and women have low levels of circulating free testosterone, estrogen, and various other hormones that are important in the body. So, men and women have to become proactive for their own health. [10:00] Practical Solutions To Regulating Your Blood Sugar Spikes Everyone needs to have an inner work practice. First, have a morning ritual and get centered. Another thing you can do is reduce the amount of carbohydrates that you eat. Also, don't eat late at night! We're not designed to metabolize food while in bed. Give yourself three hours before you go to bed without eating. The fat will typically melt right off. [17:30] Jay Campbells Says That Metabolic Flexibility Is The Key To Longevity Staying in ketosis for the long term is not good. However, if you have a disease, you may need to stay in ketosis. The average person should not stay in ketosis because it screws up your insulin metabolism. Insulin suppression and regulation are the keys to long life. People that live the longest have the most efficient mitochondria. Overall, you want to remain metabolically flexible. By remaining metabolically flexible, your body will adapt and fuel it appropriately. [29:50] All About Peptides: Benefits And What You Need To Know Peptides are small protein bonded molecules that cause all sorts of enhancement to biological systems. There are peptides that increase healing, improve immunity, increase cognition, improve fat loss, and increase muscle building. Ipamorelin peptides are great for increasing endogenous growth hormone production without disturbing your current endogenous growth hormone production. As we age, we don't make as much growth hormone. So, ipamorelin peptides are amazing! If you are using peptides correctly, there are no side effects. [39:45] There Are Only Two Ways To Get Your Peptides Right now, in the marketplace, the only option for peptides is through a doctor. Get a doctor to write you a script for a peptide that is FDA-approved. There are seven FDA-approved peptides. However, they are expensive. It is $4,500 a month to get peptides. The alternative is to buy peptides from research chemical companies. [45:00] How Jay Regrew His Nearly Bald Head Of Hair With Auxano Grow Up until 2019, Jay was almost bald. After two full months of using Auxano Grow, people thought that Jay had a hair transplant. With his company, Aseir, they help men and women heal skin and hair. If you want a simple yet very effective overview of some of the most useful peptides for injury and longevity- this is a podcast for you! She also has a great hack on alkalinity by using Alkaseltzer Gold to hack your PH balance!   If you are an athlete- professional or amateur- she has some sage advice when dealing with injuries to prevent future and almost certain arthritis.  Dr. Yurth has just launched the BLI Academy to help you take charge of your health and longevity.  A multi-layer resource center to optimize your body for ultimate performance!  They have free membership until July- so hurry on over to check it out. ***This podcast is sponsored by SpermidineLife+ US.  SpermidineLife+ is a wholly owned subsidiary of Longevity Labs, based in Graz, Austria.  Their supplements are now available in both Europe at SpermidineLife+ and the US.  It is important to note that their supplement is the ONLY one to have been in clinical trials.  They are a science first company.  They do NOT use synthetic extraction methods. Instead, they use a very special, natural water extraction method from extremely high quality wheat germ.  They go to great lengths to make sure the wheat germ does NOT have glyphosate, that awful ingredient found in round-up.   I have been taking SpermidineLife+ for one month now and can definitively say that my eyelashes have grown and become darker and my nails have also become stronger.  It normally takes about 2 months to make a material difference, so I am happy for what I have seen so far.  I have also put my 76 year old mother-in-law on them!  They just won “The Most Innovative OTC-Product” at the German 2020 Pharma Trend Image & Innovation Awards in Munich, for their novel dietary supplement, spermidineLIFE®. ******************************************* Thank you for listening. Peptides are an exciting area of medicine and can be used for anti-aging, immune function, gut healing and tissue repair. The most effective peptides are Ipamorelin, CJC-1295, BPC-157 and Thymosin Beta 4.  If this sounds like another language don't worry, today we speak with one of the leading pioneers in peptide therapy in the world, Dr. William Seeds. He helps us see an easy outline of what peptides work best for anti-aging, compared to gut healing, compared to tissue repair compared to autoimmunity.  I think you will really enjoy it! https://drruscio.com/peptide-therapy-anti-aging-immune-function/ My new book is finally available: Healthy Gut, Healthy You.
