Extrait : « … Remember the summer of 2020? The good old days of lockdown? That was the first summer that I was producing Countermelody, and during that time I tried to inject a little levity into the podcast by doing a long series on crossover. One such episode was devoted to a century of tenors singing crossover, reaching back further than a century from Hermann Jadlowker and Caruso himself and extending to the present day. There was such a wealth of gorgeous material which led to an additional bonus episode on such “Rogue Tenors,” which includes (among the German-speaking singers) Helge Rosvaenge, Fritz Wunderlich, Peter Schreier, Richard Tauber, Marcel Wittrisch, Jonas Kaufmann, Anton Dermota, Walther Ludwig, Herbert Ernst Groh, Joseph Schmidt, Jan Kiepura, and Julius Patzak; others include Stuart Burrows, Roland Hayes, Richard Lewis, Lawrence Brownlee, Jan Peerce, José Carreras, Kenneth McKellar, Noah Stewart, Tino Rossi, Luigi Alva, Giuseppe di Stefano, and Jerry Hadley in a wide range of repertoire and styles ranging from Neapolitan songs Kurt Weill; from folk songs to Victorian parlor songs; from operettas and Tonfilm Schlager to jazz and rock. It's a rollicking good ride; hold on tight and enjoy! Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. Singer and vocal aficionado Daniel Gundlach explores great singers of the past and present focusing in particular on those who are less well-remembered today than they should be. Daniel's lifetime in music as a professional countertenor, pianist, vocal coach, voice teacher, and journalist yields an exciting array of anecdotes, impressions, and “inside stories.” At Countermelody's core is the celebration of great singers of all stripes, their instruments, and the connection they make to the words they sing. Tüm zamanların en büyük tenorlarından biri olan José Carreras, 'The Farewell Tour' kapsamında 20 Eylül akşamı Vera Müzik ve Hammer Müzik ortaklığıyla, Ülker Spor ve Etkinlik Salonu'nda sahne alacak. İstanbul konseriyle başlayacak turneyi Hammer Müzik'ten Haluk Ataklı'yla konuşuyoruz.
Today I revisit the life, career, and sumptuous voice of the great Polish soprano Teresa Żylis-Gara, who died three years ago on 28 August 2021 at the age of 91. The soprano was for the most part shockingly under-recorded, so I have scoured the internet for examples of her live in performance, and unearthed examples of her singing Wagner, Massenet, Puccini, Verdi, Strauss, Giordano, Mozart, and Berlioz with some divine tenorial counterparts including Franco Bonisolli, José Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti, John Alexander, Alfredo Kraus, Wiesław Ochman, Peter Lindroos, and Piero Visconti. I know I am not the only one who revels in the rich velvety timbre of Mme. Żylis-Gara, and each of the tenors heard alongside her presents her versatile voice in a different facet of its beauty. Countermelody is a podcast devoted to the glory and the power of the human voice raised in song. International icon Sarah Brightman began her stage career at the age of just 13, and never looked back. She's best known for creating the role of Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera both in the West End and on Broadway, the cast album of which is the highest selling cast album in history. She went on to a stellar recording career, having released dozens of albums. She's now in Australia, ready for her close up, performing the role of Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Sunset Boulevard. Sarah revisits the early days of her career development. We hear about her breakthrough in Cats, the success of The Phantom of the Opera, plus her subsequent recording career which includes iconic performances with Andrea Bocelli and José Carreras. Sarah also tells about training to be an astronaut! Sarah Brightman stars as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard from 28 August to 1 November at the Sydney Opera House.
Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Music Superstar Jackie Evancho About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Jackie Evancho, is a highly popular and beloved singer-songwriter who became a worldwide sensation at the age of 10 years old when she dazzled television audiences in 2010 with her beautiful, angelic voice, on Season 5 of America's Got Talent. Since then, she's had a phenomenal multi-gold and platinum career, with 9 studio albums, 8 of which went to number 1, 3 number 1 live albums and DVDs, 30 top 20 singles, 3 highly acclaimed PBS concert specials, and 3 EPs, including her latest EP just released, entitled “Solla”. She's performed with some of the biggest names in music including David Foster, Placido Domingo, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, José Carreras, Andrea Bocelli and many more. She has had many firsts in her spectacular career. She was the youngest top-10 debut artist in US history, as well as being the youngest top-5 debut artist in the history of the UK, and she holds the record for being the youngest platinum selling solo recording artist in history. Her albums have been on the Billboard Charts for a cumulative total of more than 500 weeks. She's performed at the top concert venues in the world, and she is also the youngest person ever to give a solo concert at Lincoln Center in New York City. And now, at the age of 24, our guest has moved well beyond her life as a child prodigy, and has evolved into a mature singer-songwriter, expressing her unique brand of creativity and artistry by telling her truth musically, most recently by collaborating with Smash Mouth's founding member and principal songwriter, Greg Camp, who produced her most recent EP, “Solla”. Throughout her career, music critics from around the world have been falling over themselves searching for the appropriate superlatives to describe our guest's amazing voice, using words like “magical”, “miraculous”, “flawless”, “celestial”, “superhuman”, “angelic”, but I think Gia Tolentino of The New Yorker magazine said it best when she described our guest's voice as “supernaturally blissful”. The Honourable Lady Rita Rae is a lawyer and judge, and the current Rector of the University of Glasgow. Early in her career she was a rare woman in the heavily male-dominated legal world. She went on to work on many high profile criminal cases over five decades as a solicitor, an advocate and subsequently a judge in Scotland's Supreme Court.Rita grew up in Plains, Airdrie, to the east of Glasgow. She was a shy child but earned the nickname ‘The Last Word' from her parents because of her need to argue her case when she felt something wasn't right. She was inspired to become a lawyer by her maternal grandfather, a noted advocate and anti-fascist from Naples. Her parents met in a munitions factory in Italy where her mother was working. Her father was a Scottish bomb disposal expert helping to dismantle munitions after the war. They married and moved to Scotland, but Rita and her brother were not accepted by her Scottish family because of their Catholicism. Rita became a solicitor in 1974, entering a world dominated by men. When told by a senior colleague that women were ‘emotionally unsuitable for court work', she set about proving him wrong. She became a partner in her firm at the age of 27, and was called to the bar in 1982, one of just 13 female advocates in Scotland at the time. She was made a Sheriff in 1997 and a Judge of the Supreme Courts in 2014.In 2021 she was elected Rector of the University of Glasgow, the first female working rector in the university's 570-year history.DISC ONE: Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18 - III.
Bu bölümde konuğum organizatör Ahmet San.Kime "Ahmet San ile bir bölüm çekiyorum / çektim" desem, "Aaa ne yapıyor?" sorusu geldi.Özet yanıt şu: Meslekteki 50 yılını anlatan 'San' adında bir kitap yazdı ve dev bir proje olan film stüdyosu işini son aşamaya getirmek üzere...San ile Storytel ofisinde buluştuk; menajerlik ve organizatörlük kavramlarını, Türkiye tarihine yazılmış 'efsanevi 1993 yılı konserlerini', o konserlere giden özenle ve emekle örülmüş organizasyon geçmişini, bürokrasiyi, siyaseti, birlikte çalıştığı bazı yerli-yabancı sanatçıları, şahane 'zırhlanma' terimini ve daha pek çok şeyi konuştuk.....Ahmet San, "Yeni kuşak beni Pop Star jürisi olarak tanıyor olabiliyor" dedi bir ara, o nedenle biraz aktarayım.1973 yılından bu yana Türkiye'de 600'den fazla uluslararası sanatçının konserini yapan, stadyum konserleri organizasyonuyla meşhur Ahmet San aracılığıyla Türkiye'ye gelen isimleri sayarsak;Michael Jackson, Madonna, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Liza Minnelli, Rolling Stones, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias var.

When Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti teamed up for their first joint performance on 7th July, 1990 in Rome, it was intended as a one-off collaboration to celebrate the FIFA World Cup. But the concert triggered instant worldwide fame for the trio, who became known as The Three Tenors, and their live recording became the biggest-selling classical album of all time. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly consider how, by mixing showtunes with opera, the Tenors created the ‘classical crossover' genre that spawned Russell Watson, Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins; explain how Carreras' recovery from leukemia was the reason for the concert coming together; and reveal how their iconic Nessun Dorma encore was nearly not included at all… Further Reading: • ‘TENORS, ANYONE? All Rights Reserved Six decades after Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins' iconic film hit the screens, director Steven Spielberg's new production of West Side Story is due to be released in cinemas this Friday, and presenter Tom Service is joined by the Hollywood director, the new Maria - Rachel Zegler - as well as arranger David Newman and choreographer Justin Peck, to learn more about their aspirations for this modern-day Romeo and Juliet story. As the 1961 film celebrates its 60th anniversary, we hear from Jamie Bernstein who shares her memories of her father's involvement in this now classic musical. We eavesdrop on the author, composer and critic Neil Brand, and Tom too, as they re-watch the original movie and reflect on the lyrical, musical and choreographic magic that made West Side Story so powerful. The tenor José Carreras recollects his role in the historic 1985 recording of West Side Story - the first complete recording of the piece with Bernstein conducting - and the American-British playwright, novelist, and critic Bonnie Greer considers how the social issues and tensions of New York's barrios in the 1950s and 1960s remain as alive and relevant for contemporary audiences.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines “glamour” as “magic; enchantment; spell” and “a magical or fictitious beauty attaching to any person or object; a delusive or alluring charm.” Further down in the entry are “charm; attractiveness; physical allure,” certainly the definition we most closely associate with the term. And yet, it’s fascinating to examine the concept of glamour from its spellbinding origins. In the first of my episodes on Glamour, I examine many singers both from the spell-binding sense of the term and the sense of vocal and personal allure. Among others, I examine such varied singers as Alice Faye, Eleanor Steber, Annie Lennox, Carol Neblett, Betty Carter, Diahann Carroll, Teresa Żylis-Gara, Liane Augustin, Dorothy Kirsten, Florence Quartararo, Hana Janků, Helen Traubel, Hilde Güden, Kiri Te Kanawa, Leontyne Price, Lisa Kirk, Lotte Lehmann, Anna Moffo, Maria Nemeth, Montserrat Caballé, Rosa Ponselle, Zarah Leander, and The Incomparable Hildegarde with an eye to what makes their work glamourous in all senses of the term. And the gentlemen are by no means excluded: I spend particular time on the seductive and dulcet tenor tones of Fritz Wunderlich, José Carreras, Karl Friedrich, and Miguel Fleta.

When Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's epistolary novel The Sorrows of Young Werther was published in 1774, it became an overnight sensation. Men wore yellow waistcoats and leather breeches to look like the novel's lovelorn hero, they carried vials of their own tears to display the depth of their feelings, and they even killed themselves in solidarity with the title character. The story of passionate, unrequited love was equally resonant when Jules Massenet's opera premiered a century later, and the glorious music is still just as heart-rending today. On this week's episode of He Sang/She Sang, Merrin Lazyan and Jeff Spurgeon speak with writer James Kuslan about Massenet's Werther. We also hear from mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard about the magnetic power of love at first sight. Kuslan's first YouTube pick (Tatiana Troyanos, 1982): Kuslan's second YouTube pick (Christa Ludwig and Franco Corelli, 1971): Spurgeon's YouTube pick (Lisette Oropesa and Jonas Kaufmann): This episode features excerpts from the following album: Massenet: Werther (Philips, 1981)— José Carreras, tenor; Frederica von Stade, mezzo-soprano; Isobel Buchanan, soprano; Orchestra of the Royal Opera House conducted by Sir Colin Davis

Och vem är den homosexuella skuggan bakom Duke Ellingtons musik?Låtlista: The Beauty of Sorrow Pauline Oliveros Pauline Oliveros, accordeon Taras Room Deep Listening DL 22-2004 CD Reason in Madness mixed Pauline Oliveros Pauline Oliveros, solo accordeon.
1999 produziert Erkan Aki sein erstes Album „Here's To The Heroes“, mit Starproduzent Nigel Wright, (Madonna, Barbara Streisand, José Carreras).
You all know of my great praise for dear Marisa Galvany, and you have responded with praise to my podcasts of her material. Here is another selection of her material, with some repeats, but sometimes it is more valuable to hear a compilation. Included are scenes and arias from Ernani,Traviata, Cavalleria (with Domingo), and Aida (as Aida and Amneris.) (58 min.) Galvany studied primarily under Armen Boyajian (also the teacher of Paul Plishka and Samuel Ramey). She made her professional opera debut at the Seattle Opera in 1968 in the title role of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca. The following year, she portrayed the title heroine in Simon Mayr's Medea in Corinto in New York City, a performance which was recorded for Vanguard. She made her first international appearance in 1972 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City in the title role of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. In 1972 Galvany was offered a contract to join the roster of principal singers at New York City Opera by Julius Rudel. She accepted, making her debut with the company later that year as Elisabetta in Gaetano Donizetti's Maria Stuarda opposite Beverly Sills in the title role. She continued to sing regularly with that company through 1983, portraying such roles as Abigaille in Nabucco, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, , Odabella in Attila, Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana, Violetta in La traviata, and the title roles in Anna Bolena and Luigi Cherubini's Médée. She also sang in several different productions of Tosca where she partnered such tenors as José Carreras and Harry Theyard. In 1973, Galvany filmed her acclaimed Lady Macbeth, in Macbeth, for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, opposite Louis Quilico. That same year she made her first appearance with the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Company as Aida with Pier Miranda Ferraro as Radamès, Joann Grillo as Amneris, and Gianfranco Rivoli conducting. In 1974 she made her first appearance at the New Orleans Opera opening the 1974-1975 season as Rachel in Fromental Halévy's La Juive with Richard Tucker as Eléazar. She returned to open the company's next two consecutive seasons as Aida and Valentin in Les Huguenots, the latter production with Rita Shane and Susanne Marsee. She later returned to New Orleans to sing Salomé in Jules Massenet's Hérodiade. Galvany made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1979, in the title role of Norma. In 1985, the singing-actress sang Gertrud in Hänsel und Gretel and Ortrud in Lohengrin on tour with the company, then the Kostelnička in Jenůfa during the Fall Season in the theatre. At the Cincinnati Opera, she appeared in Turandot (with Harry Theyard) and Salome (with Ticho Parly as Herod). During the mid 1980s, Galvany began to add mezzo-soprano roles to her repertoire. She sang Amneris in Aida at the Cincinnati Opera in 1985. In 1992 she sang the title role in Bizet's Carmen with the New York Grand Opera. (NYGO) She performed frequently with the NYGO up into the early 2000s. On the international stage Galvany has appeared at the Opern- und Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, the Liceu, the Great Theatre, Warsaw, the National Theatre in Prague, and the National Theatre in Belgrade among others. She has also sang in operas in Brazil and Venezuela. References The Metropolitan Opera Encyclopedia, edited by David Hamilton, Simon and Schuster, 1987.
