In this episode of RNT Fitness Radio we're going to share the big 3 mistakes people make after they lose weight. Truth is, most people who lose weight end up back to square one either immediately, or after they experience a death by a thousand cuts. The trick is to make maintenance sexy by recalibrating your lifestyle. You may have seen me talk about going on long travel trips abroad without tracking anything, and maintaining a lean physique. This doesn't happen by accident, or restriction, or anything necessarily tactical. It happens by doing what we talk about in this episode. If you don't avoid the five nutrition mistakes I'm going to share in this video, you're going to struggle to get lean, healthy and fit. Especially if you've got a busy lifestyle with a goal to lose anywhere from 20-60+ lbs and keep it off. Over the past 15 years, I've tried every diet, every macro split and every gimmick out there. So I want to spare you the trial and error and warn you of the red flags to avoid. At the end, I'll share proven calculations, meal plans as well as a few cool free bonuses to help you get started the right way. On today's episode I'm joined by RNTer Sohan, who was shocked when he completed a DEXA scan in the middle of 2023. He had no idea how high his body fat had gotten. A highly demanding travel schedule for his work meant that: 1) Time was limited. 2) He never knew what choices to make when on the go. The DEXA was the wake up call Sohan needed. Because he wanted to feel good about himself inside and out. That's when he stumbled across RNT after hearing about us from a friend. With the RNT Method, Sohan realised he could lose weight, travel and maintain his work schedule with ease. He started eating and training to create a lean physique that he'd always dreamed of. Sohan managed to create a brand-new lifestyle that fit around his chaotic work schedule without any issues. The results from his next DEXA scan showed how far he had come. Sohan lost 20 lbs of body fat in just 6 months! But that's not all, as you'll discover in this episode, as we dive into his cholesterol markers, and how the RNT method can improve so many different aspects of health and longevity. Before 2014, I thought it wasn't possible. Until I won a bodybuilding competition - the most extreme of all body transformations - whilst eating a South Asian diet every single day. I haven't looked back since. And in the past 10 years I've been able to help 100s, if not 1000s, get into the best shape of their life doing the same. One thing to remember is South Asians love their food. But they probably love to feed others even more. Trying to tell a South Asian that to get into (and stay in) shape you need to give up South Asian food is crazy. Of course, there will be certain things that just aren't on the cards (think burfi, bhajya or halva), but most main dishes can fit a healthy lifestyle with a few simple tweaks. So in this video I'm going to break down the 3 changes you need to make to a South Asian diet if you want to lose weight with it, and of course, keep it off. Discover: The role of South Asian genetics What to do if you have “hard fat” (surprising) What needs to change in South Asian culture to drive better health Tactical protein, fat and carbohydrate strategies with South Asian food Here's a few extra resources I mention inside: 1. On this episode of RNT Fitness Radio I'm joined by long-term RNTer Amisha Patel, who comes onto the podcast for the second time after appearing on episode 205 way back in May 2021 a few months after her first photoshoot. 3.5 years later she talks about how much she's levelled up in every aspect of life: from her career, to her mental health, to her physical strength. Having started by lifting only 20kg, she's now hip thrusting 170kg, deadlifting 100kg, and is a great example of what's possible when you go all in on strength training. Hearing stories of RNTers keeping the weight off by following the five-phase process is what this is all about, so if you want to see what's possible when you commit to the long-term journey, Amisha's story is amazing. I'm not going to bore you with another podcast on the benefits of sleep, and why you should be sleeping more. In a perfect world, we never use alarm clocks, sleep as much as we need, and go to bed early in a nice relaxed state. But if you're listening to this, chances are you're in the real world. One with pressures, a stressful job or business, young kids and let's face it… a busy lifestyle. Just like the 4000 busy professionals my team and I at RNT Fitness have helped to lose 20-60+lbs, keep it off, and build healthier, fitter lives. Most people I know in this real world sleep less than they should be. And for most I know who don't sleep enough, it's not always because they're bingeing on Netflix or mindlessly scrolling. If that is the case, then stop this podcast and fix that first. Instead, it's because they've got a lot to do. Or they have young kids who wake up early. Or their business or career just requires a lot of their time. I saw this first hand growing up watching my mum build her business while looking after the family, waking up at 3-4 am daily because she needed those extra hours awake. For others, especially in the corporate world, staying late at work is seen as a necessity (even if they're not being productive), and it's completely out of their control as to when they can leave. Which is why the advice of ‘just go to sleep earlier' isn't always sensible. If this sounds like you, then you need to learn how to sleep faster and maximise the time you do spend on a pillow. Sleep is important, so if you want to improve your fitness and wellbeing on less than optimal sleep, the six strategies in this podcast may be worth trying. After over 3700 body transformations in the last 7 years, here's 9 things I've changed my mind about. A few weeks ago one of our members at RNT Fitness (have the logo pop up) asked me: “What have you changed your mind about since some of your earlier podcast episodes?” This got me thinking on a different time horizon to normal. I usually think of the mistakes and things I've changed my mind about from 10-15 years ago, but a 3-6 year timescale made this an interesting exercise. Especially when considering I started the podcast at the back end of 2017, and we're now over 380 episodes deep. In this podcast I'm going to share 9 things I don't recommend for health, fitness and sustainable weight loss anymore. Payal grew up underweight with poor eating habits. But in her mid-thirties, she suddenly shot up in weight with very little muscle gain. Despite her best efforts in gym classes, nothing seemed to give her the body she was looking for. Her menstrual cycle was also inconsistent which was a sign of hormone imbalance. She found that she never looked toned and was always trying for body recomposition. She needed expertise to help her figure out the missing puzzle piece to find what wasn't working. Also concerned about her health because of her family history, Payal decided to jump on board with RNT. With the help of the RNT Process, she learned how to eat and exercise to change her body. Now, Payal has lost 10 kilos and is feeling and looking her best! After joining RNT, Payal has found confidence in herself once again. Not to mention the life-long friends she made along the way through the RNT Community! In this episode we go deep into her story of what's become not only an amazing body transformation, but a mind and lifestyle transformation as well. Angela is joined by Akash Vaghela, the founder of RNT Fitness, a body composition and transformation program. They discuss the importance of achieving sustainable results and the difference between being in the best shape of your life versus the best shape for life. Akash stresses the need for a mindset shift and behaviour change in order to maintain long-term success, and delves into the role of nutrition and training in body composition goals, highlighting the significance of finding a balance that works for each individual. Akash also shares his own plant-based meal plan and offers insights on maintaining a healthy lifestyle KEY TAKEAWAYS The key to long-term success in maintaining body composition results is to rewire your identity and change your behaviour and mindset. Many people struggle to maintain their results because they revert back to their old way of living and fall into old habits. It is important to find a balance between satiety and enjoyment when it comes to nutrition, and focusing on a predominantly plant-based diet can help with this. Consistency in training is crucial for maintaining body composition results, and finding a form of exercise that you enjoy and can commit to is key. BEST MOMENTS "The physical is the vehicle...if you do a physical transformation, it serves as a vehicle to do things you never thought possible in all areas of your life." "The best shape of your life is an unsustainable place to get to...your shape for life is a sweet spot where you feel, look, and perform your best." "I think nutrition is the biggest reason why people don't achieve their body composition goals...emotional eating and stress eating are the biggest problems." "The best thing people can do for satiety is follow a predominantly plant-based diet...high volume, nutrient-dense foods on your plate." I got a special story to tell you today about RNT's Head of Performance, Ed. He was going to quit the industry. He was fed up with the lack of career progression. He was tired of having no security or stability as a personal trainer. And he was worried he'd be unable to be an active father when the time arrived. There's a reason the turnover in the fitness industry is so high - and why you don't see many coaches in their late 30s, 40s or beyond. For all these reasons. However, two months ago, Ed celebrated his 3rd year with us at RNT! From a burnt out personal trainer working around the clock on the verge of quitting the fitness industry, to now leading RNT's coaching team, driving the recruitment of new coaches, and managing the development of our custom-built technology for our members…AND most importantly, being a present active father to his 2.5 year old son. And by the way, I have no idea what he'd have done, knowing he's one of the few who genuinely live and breathe everything to do with transformation. One of the best parts of what I do is seeing my team develop, and giving them a real runway to grow and make a life changing impact globally. When I started RNT, I wanted to fix the sad reality of the fitness industry for most: no holidays, no security, no stability and no career path. The reality for most coaches (both online AND in person) is a constant state of anxiety. I've been there, Ed's been there, and creating a genuine platform for coaches to THRIVE with their unique strengths, is a key driver in how I set up many of the systems internally. Ed, it's been an incredible 3 years so far, and I can't wait to see what the next 3 years hold. A huge thank you for being there through thick and thin, all the highs and lows, and being so dedicated on this mission we're on of creating the world's leading transformation company. In this episode, Ed and I sit down to reflect on the 3 years, and just how far he's come. I have very high standards for trainers at RNT Fitness. I've interviewed 100s over the years, and the only ones I've seen to be successful in actually working with us long-term are the ones who tick all of the following three attributes: 1) Walking the walk. It's crazy I gotta even say this but with online training on the rise, it's too easy to get in half decent shape once in your life then hide behind your laptop relying on old pictures. Any trainer worth their salt is always walking the walk, at every stage of the journey that they coach their clients on. Whatever that phase may be - muscle building, lifestyle or fat loss, they should be pushing the envelope and really living it. By the way - it doesn't mean you need to be shredded year round. It means you gotta practice what you preach year round. 2) Obsessed with learning everything to do with transformation. Training, nutrition, mindset, lifestyle…you need to be living and breathing it, and always be deep diving. I've spent tens of thousands of hours and £ on my learning over the past decade, and it doesn't ever stop. The best trainers are the ones who can't get enough of the topic. And it's easy to spot who's frontin' and who takes this seriously as a long-term career AND calling. 3) Caring more about the client's holistic result than the client (not just before/after!). You can't measure this one, only feel it. With zero barrier to entry or accountability in this industry (this will change soon for sure), there are a ton of cowboys posing as ‘online coaches' just because it's trendy + a wave. The reality is, most don't even care about the work they do, and it's not a real part of who they are. It's a phase. Again, you can just tell who's in it for a quick buck and who's dedicated their entire life to this. The best trainers are the ones who don't have a plan B, they are all in and they are obsessed with the results of their clients. All they want is to transform lives. If you're a coach who ticks all three and wants to join the home of the best coaches, email us on careers@rntfitness.com today, or click the hiring application link in the show notes today. On this episode of RNT Fitness, I'm joined by our Head of Applied Research & Education, Ivan Gavranic, to dive deep into vegan diets, and whether the science actually backs its use if optimal health and performance is your goal. For many, going vegan is about ethics, morals and environmental concerns, but what many forget about is doing it in a way that also supports their health and fitness goals. In this podcast, we dissect everything you need to know about veganism, from protein requirements, soy and its attributed myths, which vitamins and minerals you need to know about, muscle building considerations, and how to put it all together. Whether you're vegan, or whether you're just curious about how to execute a vegan diet whilst still making gains, this is going to be a fascinating episode that I'd keep a pen and paper close by for. Maria came to us over a year ago fed up with feeling like she was always dieting. With a history of diabetes in the family, and more people around her battling with their weight, she didn't want to risk reaching 40 only to discover everything inside of her was failing. She wanted to make changes to her life, and most importantly, make changes in a way that's sustainable for her for years to come. She wanted to transform while gaining an education. And a year later, she's got into the shape of her life, stayed there for a while, and is loving learning more about nutrition, mindset and lifestyle everyday. Welcome back to another episode of RNT Fitness, and today I’m joined by Adam Schafer of Mind Pump Media. This was a really interesting episode where we talked about everything from how his childhood shaped him, the importance of honesty, vulnerability and transparency, what being a man is all about, leadership, and creating long-term lifestyle solutions to be in shape for the rest of your life. Adam doesn’t hold back on this episode as we dive deep and question many of the industry norms, standards and reasons so many people fail on their journey to transform. If you’re looking to prime yourself to make 2020 your best year yet, I know you’re going to love this episode with Adam. ‘’You don’t want the short-term transformation, you want to do this for a long time’’ Adam Schafer Thanks so much for listening! We’ve got a fun one in store for you today as I’m joined by fellow RNT’er, Ranjana, who’s been on a real journey with us at RNT over the past year. She started off with a goal of pure fat loss, and in her first 20 weeks she dropped 17kg to get into awesome shape! Since then, she’s consolidated very well and shifted gears to a performance focus, whereby her goal is very much strength oriented, and building the toned physique she’s after. In fact, what’s been exciting is that her bodyweight recently has actually gone up despite her dress size going down, which shows the power of progressive training and how the scale doesn’t always tell the full story! As a busy working mother of two, Jana dives into her routines, lifestyle hacks and mindset tricks she uses to ensure she’s able to live a healthy and productive lifestyle. As the episode draws to a close, Jana flips the cards and decides to throw my own rapid fire segment onto me, which definitely caught me by surprise! This an awesome episode for anyone who wants to feel what moving through the different phases at RNT is like, and just how transformative it can be in ways outside of the physical. ‘’This is a long term plan, you can’t just do fat loss phase and boom, done’’ Thanks so much for listening! I still remember when Sanjeeta first reached out to us. She wrote an email titled ‘help’, and after learning about where she was in her journey, I knew she’d come to the right place. When you’re at rock bottom, one of the best ways to climb out is to focus relentlessly on yourself, and use the physical as an outlet to pour your energy into. Since working with us over the past 5 months, she’s completely transformed both her body and mind. She’s down 11kg, regained control of her day, and found purpose in her life again. In today’s episode, Sanj doesn’t hold back, and talks about all the struggles she’s been through, taboos she’s faced, and how the physical has proven to be a real vehicle for her change. We’ve also released her case study, which is written as an account from Sanj, and I’d urge you to read it in the show notes after listening. ‘’The timeframe doesn’t really matter, you’ll get there’’ Sanjeeta Halai Thanks so much for listening!
