Support the show

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 7, 2023 44:06

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started!    Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral!  I've been following you for many years (nice seeing you on YouTube now!). Appreciate your heart in doing what you can to help others heal...Since Nov. 2020 our 12 yo son has had burning issues when he pees (and more recently he has had some mild cramping in his bladder area). UTI tests have come back negative.  Our DO tested for yeast on the end of his penis so we have been treating that with Sovereign Silver Gel (that has shown some improvement).  Yeast was detected in his urine (though we later realized it might have been cross contaminated). We put him on Dyflucan for 20 days (the first med he's been on in 10 years) as his DO said herbals wouldn't be effective in that area. He eats VERY healthy (SF/DF/GF/organic/etc. + 24-32oz water).   Unfortunately, not a whole lot has changed with the burning/cramping.  His OAT test a few years ago showed that he had yeast overgrowth and high oxalates....We did do the kids CBO protocol at the time but unfortunately weren't able to finish with the sealer or find the right probiotic for him (he had a reaction).  Any thoughts? Have you seen any similar cases? Is there a factor that I possibly haven't even considered? Appreciate any insight you may have from your years of experience! THANK YOU!   Josie: Hi Dr Cabral. I got the Covid vaccine a little over a month ago and have been struggling with dizziness, weakness in my legs and arms, to tingling sensation as well as burning feeling in my back and muscle spasms. I am really scared that the vaccine has triggered an autoimmune reaction. I have Hashimotos and had been pretty stable before due to diet and working with a naturopath to find underlying cause. I did not get the second vaccine, and don’t plan to. Is there anything I can do to recover from this? Im really scared that I did permanente damage. Thanks so much for any guidance.   Georgina: Hi Dr Cabral! I have been listening to your podcast every day, read your book and am going to enrol in IHP soon. Thank you for everything you do, you are truly amazing and a gift from God! You are the only opinion I trust so I would like to know your thoughts on TRS if you have heard of it. If not what are your thoughts on water based nano zeolites or zeolite in general for removing heavy metals.  All the best, Georgina   Emily: Hi Dr Cabral.  I really admire and appreciate you sharing your rich knowledge. You have taught me so much and as a result, my life and the members of my family lives have dramatically improved and for that I am truly grateful.  I am wondering if you have an idea of why my 3 year old daughter smells like craft glue after she sleeps? She does sweat alot while she sleeps and I believe it is her sweat that is smelling that way. She does complain of stomach pains after eating gluten. She also got eczema during the summer holidays after getting out of our eating routine and having alot more icey poles and baby chinos (cows milk) more regularly. We are now getting back into our regular routine again and getting my daughters eating habits back in order (cutting down on dairy, sugar). I am thinking she is sensitive to gluten because she chooses not to eat much of it and when she does she complains of a sore stomach, around the small intestines.  She has suffered from thrush in the past.  I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to improve my daughter's health in regards to this unusual smell. Thank you kindly!  Kind regards. Emily   Darren: Good day Dr. Cabral. I appreciate the info you and your guests bring to us. However, I don't know if somewhere along the way I got confused but with regard to the topic of breathing, it seems like the specialists Dr. Belisa, Patrick McKeown, Brian MacKenzie & James Nestor all have different views on topic. If that's the case and I'm not actually confused, I get that's normal. I would just like to know, aside the breathing exercises they recommend, what exactly is the ideal way to breathe in your everyday, normal life. I believe you recommend exhales longer than inhales and nasal breaths. But should it be deep or shallow as some recommend or is there ever need for mouth exhalations outside of heavy activity etc? Hope my question isn't all over place. Thank you.   Darren: Hey, Dr. Cabral. Darren again. On the same topic of breathing, I read the reason many are always breathing more heavily from one nostril than the other is natural part of our "nasal cycle", so that each nostril operates effectively. In order to open one side of your nose and close the other, your body inflates tissue with blood in the same way that a man gets an erection, except, in your nose. Increased blood flow causes congestion in one nostril for about 3 to 6 hours before switching to the other side. The process also gives each side of your nose a break, since a constant stream of heavily flowing air can dry it out and kill off the small hairs that protect you from foreign contaminants. Is there any truth to this at all? Thank you   Darren: Dr. Cabral. Final question. You listed the importance of dry brushing in your book. I'm a tad embarrassed to say I find the diagram a bit confusing. And there's conflicting views on techniques where some say brush toward heart, others say toward lymph nodes & extremities. To quell all that, is it possible for you to do a video demonstrating exactly how drybrushing should be performed? I think I will put doing it on hold out of fear I may be doing more harm than good. As always, thank you.

How the breath helps the entire body connect and in sync from the head to the heart to the gut. BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community   Power Quotes From The Show How Poor Breathing Impacts Digestion, The Lower Back And Stress "Our inability to inhale and expand comes from muscular corsets or emotional corsets. If you're bracing your mid-area because you're stressed or think it's good for your body or you're guarding because you're ashamed of your physical appearance, that's actually going to negatively impact your digestion, lower back, and you can't take a deep breath. I understand that inhaling and letting yourself expand can feel weird and vulnerable; however, once you exhale you'll realize just how much muscle is there and how much stronger your core is when you actually inhale, expand, and exhale to contract and narrow your body."   Combating Physical and Mental Fatigue With Breathwork "If you've been sitting at a computer and find yourself so exhausted at the end of the day but you don't know why that's being brain tired because you haven't been moving. You've been sitting for hours and probably not in a good posture and most likely not breathing well. You get energy from your breath because oxygen is cell fuel and if you're not breathing well while sitting, you're going to get tired. Another kind of tired comes from your breathing muscles not being strong enough. You might have good cardio and be active but if your breathing muscles aren't strong, just like any muscle in the body, you're going to get fatigued faster." - Dr. Belisa Vranich     Connecting, Letting Go And Forgiving With The Breath "Letting yourself focus on deep inhales and expand with each breath means you're going to be able to connect better. Being able to exhale and really exhale well means you're going to be able to let go of things and forgive. We all need to be more intuitive, more creative, more flexible, and more forgiving and the breath can give you that." - Dr. Belisa Vranich   Links From Today's Show  Breathing for Warriors Breathe: The Simple, Revolutionary 14-Day Program to Improve Your Mental and Physical Health The Breathing Class The Ash Center for Comprehensive Medicine How to breathe | Belisa Vranich | TEDxManhattanBeach Cured Nutrition Lao Tzu Brian Sabin 290 Dan Brulé 249 Niraj Naik 292 Pavel Stuchlik Bruce Lipton Stan Grof Wim Hof 086 Mark Divine  Dr. Belisa on Cesar 911 Vince Lombardi inspirational quotes The Fighter's Mind: Inside the Mental Game by Sam Sheridan Robert Yang Jill Miller Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes BREATHE M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Dr. Belisa Vranich Facebook Instagram Twitter LinkedIn YouTube About Dr. Belisa Vranich A clinical psychologist and a leading expert in mental health and fitness, Dr. Belisa Vranich is the author of Breathe: The Simple, Revolutionary 14-Day Program to Improve your Mental and Physical Health (St. Martin’s Press/Hay House). People are less in touch with their bodies―and especially their breathing―than ever before. And ironically, people who take pride in taking care of their bodies actually put themselves at greater risk. Why? Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing.   Proper breathing is the world’s most powerful biohack.   In this episode of the Align Podcast, Belisa Vranich shares how we can master our breath to unlock more strength, greater endurance, sharper precision, faster recovery, and ultimately optimize our lives.   Belisa is a clinical psychologist, author of Breathing for Warriors, founder of The Breathing Class, and is here to give you a step-by-step guide on how to biohack your breath.   Find more from Belisa: Instagram: @drbelisa Book: Breathing for Warriors Website: thebreathingclass.com

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:  Melissa:Hi there - I am wanting to buy an upright bike and saw that Dr. Cabral links to the PYHIGH indoor cycling bike in a couple of his podcasts as the bike he recommends. I wanted to ask why he recommends this one in particular before making the purchase. This is the link to the one he linked to in the previous podcast notes:  Thank you! Jordan: Hi dr Cabral first off I’ve been listening to your podcast for a year now and I want to thank you for all the amazing information you give. I’ve been dealing with signs of Candida overgrowth for quite some time now but everything has gotten drastically bad recently. I was on your 7 day detox but after day 5 I developed a dry rash patch on my eye and servere dandruff. Not sure if that was any effort to the detox or if you think it could be? I have always had quite dry skin and dandruff however I have now developed eczema like rashes on my eye lids of both eyes, dandruff, severe acne on my back (however I don’t get acne normally), I have had on going yeast infections for years, slight white coating on my tongue. I feel as if this all points to signs of yeast overgrowth . I ordered the CBO protocol a couple months ago to hopefully tackle my yeast infections. But I’m curious to know if this is the right route to go ? I’m a university student in Canada so lab tests are quite pricey to order unfortunately. I also was wondering if it is possible for candida overgrowth can get so severe it affects organs or the blood? Thanks for all your help! Jennifer: Hello, I am someone who is at the end of my rope. I have seen 2 functional /Chinese acupuncturist with no help with my digestive issues. I can't began to tell the amount of money wasted on visits and supplements with no help. I have Lupus and I was tested for Candida and SIBO which both were positive. I have done elimination diets which suck and don't wont work. Also I even took a allergy test for foods. I eat healthy and what I am suppose to eat but I am a worrier and I do stress and I'm anxious about. So I'm sure that contributes to my issues as well. All these supplements with garlic, tuermic, ginger give me heartburn which yes I suffer from that, bloating, constipation. I AM BEGGIN FOR THE RIGNT HELP. PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE, HELP ME Sinead: Hi. I don't know if you have ever talked about retrovirus? I'm looking for more easily assimilated info on them. My son had art testing and retrovirus showed up. My question is...is it possible to completely delete retrovirus from the body and HOW? Or is just there always going to remain there to be activated/deactivated ? Thanks so much Lolly: Hi there, from some of the podcasts I’ve come to the conclusion I may have a parasite or Candida overgrowth. One of the podcasts directed me to the parasite cleanse, however I don’t see it anywhere. Is this now the functional detox cleanse? Thank You Barry: Hello, I recently found out I have Kennedy's Disease - Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA) & was wondering if there is anything you can recommend as it seems there is no cure or treatments currently available. I have been suffering with the symptoms for nearly 20 years & would love your insight. Kind regards, Barry Jason: Hey dr Cabral. Just wondering if you have any suggestions on an all natural daily facial cleansing regimen. Or if you could talk about your own daily regimen in that regard. Thank you so much you’re doing amazing work Darren: Hey, pleasant day Dr Cabral. Hope all is well with you, your wife, daughters and those attached to Equilibrium Nutrition. I recall a podcast you had with Dr. Belisa with regard to proper breathing technique. If I am not mistaken I believe you recommend a 5 second inhale and a longer exhale. Despite my best efforts I can not make the 5 second inhale. It has to be really forced and I get overwhelmed. Most I get is around 3.5 second on inhale. The exhalation is no issue. Is this a problem that can affect me or am I overthinking it? Does everyone have different lung capacity so some fill up quicker or something? If not, any advice with regard to this will be most appreciated. I tried the single nostril breathing too and dunno if that's helping. I'm a vata pitta type, fit. As always keep up great work.   Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community’s questions!  - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/1576 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral   - - - Dr. Cabral's New Book, The Rain Barrel Effect https://amzn.to/2H0W7Ge - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: http://CabralSupportGroup.com - - -   Dr. Cabral’s Most Popular Supplements: > “The Dr. Cabral Daily Protocol” (This is what Dr. Cabral does every day!) - - - > Dr. Cabral Detox  (The fastest way to get well, lose weight, and feel great!) - - - > Daily Nutritional Support Shake  (#1 “All-in-One recommendation in my practice) - - - > Daily Fruit & Vegetables Blend  (22 organic fruit & vegetables “greens powder”) - - - > CBD Oil  (Full-spectrum, 3rd part-tested & organically grown) - - - > Candida/Bacterial Overgrowth, Leaky Gut, Parasite & Speciality Supplement Packages - - - > See All Supplements: https://equilibriumnutrition.com/collections/supplements  - - -   Dr. Cabral’s Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Organic Acids Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Thyroid + Adrenal + Hormone Test  (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Adrenal + Hormone Test (Run your adrenal & hormone levels) - - - > Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Omega-3 Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - > Stool Test (Use this test to uncover any bacterial, h.

I always assumed my breathing was on point. It wasn’t. That didn’t mean I didn’t have excellent cardiovascular conditioning, I did. But it was adapted for a specific scenario (even today, in my late 50s, I can do scenario-drills with 30-year old military studs and hang with them - but again, that’s ‘adaptation’., my body had acclimated. I needed to understand breathing outside my sport. Enter Belisa Vranich. Belisa had been on my list of breathing experts to connect with and we finally linked.

Donald Macleod looks at five key environments that shaped Billy Strayhorn's personal and musical trajectory. Donald starts the journey in Homewood, Pittsburgh, where Billy Strayhorn’s early life was over-shadowed by poverty and a violent father. Over six years of toil as a “soda jerk and delivery boy” he saved up for music college, but an Art Tatum record showed him that everything he loved about classical music was there in one form or another in jazz. Strayhorn cut free and moved to New York, where his path crossed with Duke Ellington. He was quick to discover an exciting new world of opportunity, playing and writing for Ellington’s famous band – a complex relationship that continued for almost thirty years. Work took him to Hollywood - Donald explores the reasons why this turned out to be both an opportunity and a source of disillusionment. We also hear of Strayhorn’s love affair with Paris, the city where he found the night-life and the artistic independence he craved, and where he was given the chance to record his first album under his own name. “[People] are empowered, and that’s exactly why I love doing what I do is because you have everything you need to get yourself to feel better... Breathing is something that’s yours, and we’ve forgotten that. We’ve forgotten how powerful it can be. We’ve forgotten how to do it right.” Dr. Belisa Vranich is the Director of Breathing Science at the Ash Center for Comprehensive Medicine in New York City. Dr. Belisa began her career as a clinical psychologist with the intention of having a long-standing therapy practice. As she explored different methods of reducing stress, Dr. Belisa developed an interest in yoga breathing and martial arts-based breathing techniques. The result of her study is The Breathing Class, a practical, science-based method that addresses the physical and psychological problems related to ‘bad breath.’ Dr. Belisa is also a sought-after public speaker and the author of Breathe: The Simple, Revolutionary 14-Day Program to Improve your Mental and Physical Health. A regular guest on platforms like CNN, the Today Show and Good Morning America, Dr. Belisa joins us today to share the right way to breathe, explaining how we start out breathing correctly and later adopt the stress breath that works against our body design. She discusses her science-based approach to improved breathing, the classic studies around breathing muscle strength, and the different breathing strategies she recommends for precision versus power sports. She’s a clinical psychologist who has made a career re-training people on how to breathe correctly and in her latest book, "Breathe," she provides a step-by-step program to help people breathe better. Today on the show, Belisa explains all the ill health and psychological effects of poor breathing, like increased stress, poor sleep, poor mental function, and even poor digestion, as well as why so many people mess up this seemingly simple and automatic bodily process. She then walks listeners through how to take a proper breath and even shares some exercises you can do to train yourself to breathe better and improve your all-around health. This is an extremely practical podcast, and you’re going to feel great after you do the breathing exercises Belisa lays out.

Dr. Belisa made the move from clinical psychology to focusing exclusively on teaching people to breathe correctly. She has been on various talk shows and most recently, she is the author of the book “Breathe: The Simple, Revolutionary 14-Day Program to Improve Your Mental and Physical Health.” How we breathe can have a large impact on both our physical health and our emotional and psychological well-being. So naturally, as Commander Divine has talked about before, it is essential that we learn proper breathing technique, even though many of us will think of breathing as just being an automatic action that our body does unconsciously. See if you recognize yourself in the breathing issues that Dr. Belisa describes.

https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/breathepodcast In the past several months, I've taken a deep, deep dive into breath work. Sure, in the past years I've written articles on everything from , to how to , to to to to the during both exercise and sleep... ...but lately, I've been making a very concerted effort to consistently do deep nasal breathing, rhythmic breathing and breath hold tactics during walks, weight training sessions, road trips and beyond. And by concerted, I mean consistently, every day, until these forms of breathing become fully automatic. In her new book "" my guest Dr. Belisa Vranich explains why breathing is so crucial for optimizing brain and body performance, and she delves into one of the most comprehensive treatises of practical breathing tactics that I've ever read (the other best book on this topic is "" by Patrick McKeown, who I'm also getting on the podcast soon). She highlights the results she's seen in her research and in her own patients, including... Insomnia? Gone. Anxiety? Gone. All without medication. Unpleasant side effects from blood pressure pills? Gone. A cheap and effective way to combat cardiovascular disease, immune dysfunction, obesity, and GI disorders? Yes. Sounds too good to be true? Contemporary science confirms what generations of healers have observed through centuries of practice: Breath awareness can turn on the body’s natural abilities to prevent and cure illness. The mental and physical stresses of modern life, such as anxiety, frustration, sexual dysfunction, insomnia, high blood pressure, digestive woes, and immune dysfunction can all be addressed through conscious control of your breath. In addition, it can increase energy, accelerate healing, improve cognitive skills, and enhance mental balance. Yet most of us stopped breathing in the anatomically “right” way, the way to take advantage of these benefits, when we were four or five years old. We now mostly breathe in a way that is anatomically incongruous and makes for more illness. But in the book "", Dr. Vranich shows readers how to turn back the tide of stress and illness, and improve the overall quality of their life through a daily breathing workout. In a fascinating, straightforward, jargon-free exploration of how our bodies were meant to breathe, she delves into the ins and outs of proper breathing. By combining both anatomy and fitness with psychology and mindfulness, Dr. Vranich gives readers a way of solving health problems at the crux and healing themselves from the inside out.  is an easy-to-follow guide to breathing exercises that will increase energy, help lose weight, and make you feel calmer and happier. Dr. Vranich is a clinical psychologist with over twenty years of experience, and she has spent the last decade dedicating herself to the study of breathing. She is the founder of The Breathing Class and has appeared in dozens of national media outlets, including Anderson Cooper, CNN, Fox, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Inside Edition, The Wall Street Journal, Cosmopolitan, Men's Fitness and Huffington Post. She is also the former sports psychologist for Gold's Gym and columnist for Shape. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How to determine something called your "baseline breath"...[10:35] -The best biohacking gear that you can use to self quantify and test your breath...[24:45 & 28:10] -What percentage oxygen level you should look at when using an oximeter to check your blood oxygenation levels...[29:15] -The acid-alkaline relationship between something called "overbreathing" and craving junk foods...[19:20 & 34:40] -Why your breath hold time may not be that important (unless you're into freediving, spearfishing, shooting, golfing, surfing, surgery or tattoo artistry)...[38:00 & 42:00] -Why rock musicians have very strong vagus nerve stimulation...[52:20] -How breathwork detoxifies your body and moves lymph through your circulatory system...[57:30] -The $3000 device that Dr. Vranich swears by for full body massage and diaphragmatic stimulation...[64:45] -What Dr. Vranich thinks of devices like the Powerlung and the Elevation Training Mask...[70:50] -And much more!
