On today's episode, Dennis speaks with former LEO and elected Judge, Eric Starnes & SCT case law instructor, Zach Miller. Eric Starnes is a conservative Republican, former law enforcement officer, and experienced prosecutor running. He is now the elected Judge of Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 7. A lifelong Texan, Starnes earned his Masters of Public Administration from the University of North Texas and his Juris Doctorate at Texas Wesleyan University. His roots in Tarrant County run deep, having served to keep his community safe for nearly three decades within the criminal justice system—both on the street and in the courts. Spending time on both sides of law enforcement has afforded Starnes a valuable perspective on justice… one that isn't learned in law school alone. During his more than 23 years of service with the Euless Police Department, he worked his way up from a patrol officer to Lieutenant of Investigations. In that capacity he oversaw the coordination of all criminal investigations, while managing a $1.6 million budget and a staff of eighteen. While in this position he testified in criminal trials on multiple occasions—providing him an experience that a vast majority of criminal lawyers do not have. This insight has served Starnes well in both his current role as a Tarrant County Assistant Criminal District Attorney, where he has worked exclusively for the last four years within the Criminal Division on both felony and misdemeanor cases. In addition to his years in private law practice, his dedication to jurisprudence has further led to his becoming both a published writer and a professor, educating students on the laws that surround the basis of the Fourth Amendment's search and seizure clause—a subject vital to the criminal court system. Experienced, Knowledgeable, Fair-minded… Eric Starnes understands the difference between being an “active” judge and an “activist” judge. He seeks to efficiently move cases through the court system—protecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring the professional and just treatment of all who enter his courtroom. Today, Dennis, Eric and Zach discuss Eric's background and career and clarify 4th Amendment case law, specifically seeking consent to search when you have PC. Brenita Jackson enters her second year (2022-23) as head coach of the women's basketball program and 7th season overall as a head coach at the college level coaching alongside her husband Kevin Jackson. In just her first season at the helm of the Lady Ram's program, Jackson holds the third best record in program history 25-7 and holds the highest win percentage .781 of any coach in the history of women's basketball at Texas Wesleyan. The Lady Rams qualified for the national tournament for only the third time in program history ending their historic season in Sioux Falls, Iowa to St. Francis University. Jackson was named the 2021-2022 John Hudson Coach of the Year after reviving the program that only won 1 game that she inherited to a 25-win season. This 24 win improvement in just one year is the best turnaround in the program's history. The team was lead by junior transfer Kertisa Amos who was named First Team all Sooner Athletic Conference, New Comer of the Year and on the All-Defensive Team. The team was also propelled by the play of Freshman of the Year, Zarria Carter, and All Conference Honorable Mention, Makayla Coy. Both Carter and Amos were awarded Player of the Week Awards in the Sooner Athletic Conference during the historic season. Turning around losing programs is something Kevin and Brenita Jackson have done at three different college programs in their coaching careers and have worked tirelessly to maintain an overall graduation rate of 100% of all student-athletes. The husband and wife team believe in building the whole person and developing the student and the athlete for success in the classroom, on the court and in life. Prior to coming to Texas Wesleyan, Brenita spent a season at Little Elm High School where she served as an assistant coach for a year. She has also spent the last 8 years building KBJ Academy with her husband Kevin Jackson to offer consulting, basketball skills training, camps and team building retreats across the country. Jackson is from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 2003. She went on to play two years at Lon Morris College where she led the team from last place, to a Region 14 Conference Champion Runner-Up finish in 2005. She was voted to the All-Conference and All-Academic team and signed to play at NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University in the Southland Conference. While at Southeastern, she led the Lions from last place in the conference to an East Division Conference Championship in 2007 while also garnering All-Conference, All-Academic and All-Louisiana honors. While at Southeastern, she met her now husband - Kevin Jackson who would later join her on the coaching journey making history together at various stops. After graduating from Southeastern with her Bachelor's in Business Management, Brenita went on to play professionally in Aarhus, Denmark where she began coaching her team to an undefeated season. Brenita returned to her alma mater in the fall of 2008 to become an assistant coach at Lon Morris College. In 2010, she was promoted to the head coaching position and made history with Kevin Jackson in their first two years. The pair broke the school record for the most wins in a season finishing 19-12, while also finishing runner-up in the Region 14 Championship. Brenita and Kevin recruited and coached two All-Americans, six All-Conference winners, four All-Academic winners and one Freshman of the Year. They also obtained a 100% graduation rate of all sophomores and the team GPA was ranked No. 5 in the nation, with an average GPA of 3.5. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chefranjohn/support

A portion of our Young Turks Main Show from March 2, 2018. For more go to http://www.tytnetwork.com/join. Hour 1: Cenk, John, Emma Vigeland, & Mark Thompson. Trump doubles down on tariffs. Trump on Friday defended his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum, even as he acknowledged the move could trigger a global trade war. In a series of early morning tweets, the president continued to defy members of his own party — and some of his top advisers — by insisting that the tariffs would benefit the U.S. economy. “When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win,” Trump tweeted. Hour 2: Mike Jeffcoat, the coach at Texas Wesleyan University and a former major-league pitcher, has been fired after saying in an email to a Colorado high school prospect that the university no longer recruits players from the state due to failed drug tests. Trump has posted a furious, rambling and misspelt tweet about Alec Baldwin, the actor famous for impersonating him on Saturday Night Live. In an early morning post that rambled on multiple tangents, misspelt the word "dying" and called Mr Baldwin by the wrong name, Mr Trump suggested that the impersonation of him on the programme was painful to watch.
