The Debt Crisis and Its Implications: Peter Schiff discusses the growth of the United States' national debt from $7 trillion to approximately $35 trillion and its consequences on the economy. He delves into the reasons behind this increase, highlighting the role of deficit spending and the Federal Reserve's actions in keeping interest rates artificially low. Schiff expresses concern over the sustainability of this debt accumulation and forecasts a looming financial crisis that could result from the inability to manage this debt effectively. Inflation and Monetary Policy: The conversation covers the topic of inflation in detail, with Schiff criticizing the Federal Reserve's policies, particularly the lowering of interest rates and quantitative easing. He argues that these measures, intended to finance government debt and stimulate the economy, have contributed to rising inflation rates. Schiff also discusses the potential for a more significant inflationary crisis as a result of continued monetary expansion and the devaluation of the currency. Gold vs. Bitcoin Debate: A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the debate between gold and Bitcoin as investment assets and stores of value. Schiff, a well-known advocate for gold, outlines his skepticism towards Bitcoin, arguing that it lacks intrinsic value and is highly speculative. In contrast, he champions gold for its historical reliability as a hedge against inflation and its intrinsic value. The discussion also touches on Schiff's perspective on Bitcoin's role in the financial system and its comparison to gold. Our hosts don't shy away from tackling the big subjects – from global economic currents to the ever-evolving tech landscape. Tune in for a reality check on today's value system and explore the critical strategies for prudent financial planning! The Boom of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and NBA TopShot (01:30)NFTs are taking the digital asset world by storm, as highlighted by the popularity of NBA TopShot, a platform for buying and selling limited edition digital highlights from basketball games. Our hosts delved into the world of NFTs, analyzing their value proposition and discussing notable purchases like Donald Trump-related digital items and rare sneakers. However, they remind listeners of the importance of conducting due diligence before diving into such purchases, given their volatile and speculative nature.Bitcoin's Role in Investors' Portfolios (08:30) Bitcoin's surge and its positioning as a hedge against traditional financial systems was a focal point of the episode. The hosts explored Bitcoin's recent performance, the surge in its price, and the launch of Bitcoin ETFs, which make the cryptocurrency more accessible to investors. However, they cautioned about Bitcoin's volatility, underscoring the importance of understanding your risk tolerance and the operational aspects of owning and storing digital currencies.Implications of Tax and Regulations on Investments (12:15)The taxation of gains from Bitcoin and the shift to investment in physical assets like gold were also discussed, painting a picture of the broader implications of government regulation on investment strategies. The hosts opined that assets like gold could be seen as a hedge against inflation and financial calamity, with potential shifts in investor sentiment towards more tangible commodities like diamonds.Changing Attitudes Towards Money and Wealth Disparity (29:50)A societal shift in attitudes towards money was keenly observed, with discussions on how people today value material possessions over long-term financial security. They pointed out that while some are accumulating considerable wealth, others are challenged by the cycle of increased income leading to higher spending, rather than saving. The episode also shed light on the dramatic rise in the net worth required to be seen as part of the elite 1%, laying bare the stark wealth disparity growing in America.Technological Advancements and their Impact on Major Companies (43:45)Apple's recent performance dip in China led to a broader conversation about innovation cycles, the challenges large tech companies may face, and the eventual plateauing of technology's exponential growth, as suggested by Moore's law. The hosts surmised that even giants like Amazon are not immune to being replaced, and this cycle presents both opportunities and risks for investors.Remember, this podcast is for informational purposes only and should not be considered as financial advice.   Dorien Nuñez is a New York City native, amateur astronomer, and former professional Sax player. He has celebrated 50 years on Wall Street, is a first generation college grad from Harvard, and is a proud alum of the New York City public school system. He is a co-founder of a group of Harvard Black and Latinx alumni serving on corporate boards, and is a Senior Fellow at Intentional Endowments Network.   Dorien Nuñez's journey to understanding the racial wealth disparity began in his childhood, growing up in Brooklyn but attending an elite mostly White high school in the suburbs. He was inspired by the achievements of people like Benjamin Banneker, and had mentors like his schoolteachers, who helped him develop his talents. At a young age, he began to understand the importance of money and developed entrepreneurial skills. With the help of his mentors, he was accepted to prestigious boarding schools and eventually Harvard Business School. His experiences gave him the insight to understand the systemic issues in capitalism and banking, leading him to dedicate his career to helping others to invest and create wealth. With his commitment to mentorship, Dorien Nuñez is helping to close the racial wealth gap and empower people to create and achieve unlimited success. 1. Exploring the economic disparities between white and black people in the US. 2. Investigating the role of mentors and how they help individuals succeed. 3. Decoding the secrets to becoming a millionaire by investing wisely.     Chapter Summaries:   [00:03:21] The wealth disparity between black and white people. What does it mean when we talk about generational wealth?   [00:08:47] Dorien was born in Harlem and then moved to Brooklyn. Got a scholarship to go to an elite white boarding school, St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. His first mentors were his school teachers. Ended up going to Harvard Business School.   [00:14:55] When he was nine years old, he saw an article about the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His mentors saw something in him and nurtured it. This leads him to try to find and mentor high school students and college students.   [00:17:32] As a child, he was entrepreneurial. "The hardest job to get on Wall Street is your first job." His advice to anybody out there is to learn about money. You can't get rich if you don't know about money.   [00:23:53] Credit scores are important and people can raise their credit scores. All kinds of free services will help you repair your credit. More and more entities are providing capital to people with lower credit scores. Things are getting easier and better, but you still have to take responsibility and get your budget in order.   [00:31:10] "Well, when I went away to boarding school, it was practically all mostly white boarding school. I was there to get a good education, to learn what I could, and to take it back home. That was my mission. At age 14, I knew what I was going to do."   [00:31:40] "The House of Representatives kept Adam Clayton Powell from taking his seat. So if they wanted to, they could keep George Santos in his seat. And in California, they recalled Governor Davis." "We'll send any listeners to this show, who calls in or sends Simma an email a free report on "Ten Things You Could Do To Save Money and Invest and Three Things You Can Teach Your Children."   [00:34:11] The term Redlining comes from when the banks or insurance company would draw a red line around the neighborhood. They would not loan money to people in Black neighborhoods or sell houses to Black people to move into white neighborhoods. Redlining is not as obvious as it has been in the past, but it still exists and it's an impediment. The only solution is to sue them when this happens. You got to make them pay economically.   [00:36:40] Dorien's experience with race and racism. How they were treated differently and that being black is not that easy.   [00:44:00] There are a lot of Black networks that people need to know about and be part of. If you're not part of those natural networks, then you have to find your own and build your own. That's part of wealth building   [00:49:30] What is in Dorien Nuñez's favorite playlist, films, movies, shows, and books?   Guest Bio Dorien Nuñez, Co-Founder and Director of Research, OMNIResearch Group. The old playbook was amass a lot of money through creating a successful business then spend it on houses, boats, planes or a sports team. But to the new and the wealthiest of the wealthy, that's 20th century wealth. 21st century wealth is about creating rockets but even that's not enough. So now the crown jewel of the wealthy is more esoteric and less tangible. It's buying portions of the internet.

“To me, developing a positive relationship with money means overcoming financial trauma,” explains Yolanda Mukombe, MBA of YGM Consulting. In today's episode, host D-Rich, Yolanda, and Steve Canty of Canty Insurance, sit down to talk about wealth disparity and how to close to Black family wealth gap.    Black families have long been left out of financial institutions such as banking and home ownership. Throughout history, they haven't been able to acquire the same equity as white families and have since been left to catch up. According to the panel, learning how to make your money work for you can be the difference between a traumatic financial situation and security. While learning how to navigate financial systems such as loans, life insurance, and mortgages can be overwhelming, it is a crucial step towards building generational wealth and closing the racial wealth gap.    Join Yolanda Mukombe and Steve Canty on this week's episode of Southern Soul Live Stream - Podshow as they shed light on the issues surrounding wealth disparity in Black communities. Learn more about the importance of building equity, homeownership, and life insurance so you can begin to make your money work for you.  Quotes • “It's easy for me to tell other people how to do it. But my God, when I was in the middle of it, it felt so difficult. And having that experience really opened my eyes to having compassion to help people navigate through financially traumatic situations.” (5:45-6:03 | Yolanda) • “I try to help people rebound from financially traumatic situations, develop a plan, and then start to plan in preparation for kids. Even if nothing chaotic never happens, it is so much better to have a plan in place. Just like you have life insurance, or insurance on your cell phone, or your car,  you need to have insurance on your financial security so that you can pivot if something does happen.” (7:40-8:04 | Yolanda)  • “Developing a positive relationship with money, means to overcome financial trauma. Instead of your money telling you what to do, you are in control of your money.” (10:33-10:47 | Yolanda) • “We've been locked out of a lot of the financial vehicles that allow us to build equity that we can transfer to future generations.” (22:47-22:57 | Steve) • “Life insurance is critical. And people really need to not be shy or be embarrassed about what they don't know. If you can let your hair down, you can learn something new” (30:13-30:31 | Steve)   Links Connect with Yolanda Mukombe, MBA:: Schedule a FREE Consultation with Yolanda at: https://calendly.com/ygmconsultingllc/consulting-session-special Create a positive relationship with money with Yolanda at: https://ygmconsultingllc.com/   Connect with Steve Canty: Website: https://cantyins.com/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/stevesmyagent/ About with Southern Soul Live Stream - Podshow Witty, thought-provoking, and uplifting, Southern Soul Livestream - Podshow is the program that you'll invite friends over to watch every week, where you'll learn about fascinating speakers and get to share in their exciting experiences. Overlap between ideas are assumed   43:05 - Mask usage during the Covid times. The term ‘anti-masker’. Different states have different laws regarding masks. As of August 10, Wisconsin’s state agency requires employees to wear masks even on Zoom calls   45:58 - With all that’s happening in the world, especially the year of 2020, it’s almost laughable we can’t tell real news from fake news. What institutions can we trust with the most up-to-date news?   50:15 - False information: fault of the media and those in positions of authority, or fault of the people? We want to be able to trust what we read and hear without needing to fact check everything.   55:25 - Health and nutrition research studies. The samples, methods, biases, and why those make a difference in the results of the study. Trials and results often only published when it is in your favor or confirm what it is that you wanted to prove.   59:10 - Richard Feynman’s speech on the dangers of cargo cult science. Feynman’s tells of a tribal society who often received supplies and materials from an airplane during war times. They tried to re-attain these goods by creating imitation runway landings and bamboo radio antennas. Although they were doing all the preparation work to receive the supplies, they did not understand why it didn’t come. Science that lacks integrity, although looks “scientific” is what we call cargo cult science.   1:02:55 - Link between science and marketing. Funding a study that will produce results in your favor to appear more credible and support your message. Hydroxychloroquine and it’s supposed ability to treat Covid topic attracting strong opinions on social media, to the form of bot usage.   1:07:40 - Drug approvals and Right to Try law. Drug companies need to pass phase 3 testing to receive support from insurance companies, and also most report results from treatments of patients from the Right to Try law. Often times with those patients being extremely sick given their only option is to shell out the money without the help of insurance, it could hurt the chances of drug approvals.   1:13:57 - The rate at which the vaccine for Covid is coming vs. treatments for other diseases. There is the ‘hype’ element behind Covid mixed with the way lifestyle has been impacted by the virus that has pushed up the need to find a vaccine for it quickly.   1:17:58 - North Korea: Covid cases in Korea, the death hoax of Kim Jong-un, and North Korean wine.   1:20:01 - Number of cases in the U.S. and how we are perceived by other countries. Uighur concentration camps in China. Propaganda and distrust of media. What is propaganda within our country being spread and being exported out of the country? We have seen a lot of propaganda both for and against Trump during his presidency, that accelerated the distrust of media.   1:23:00 - Operation Mockingbird. While some of the information surrounding Operation Mockingbird is unconfirmed, it’s interesting to read into these theories regarding operations to eavesdrop on journalists, alleged CIA operations to manipulate news media for propaganda purposes, etc.   1:27:11 - Fearful mentality within our country stemming from the upcoming election, riots, protesting, and lingering worry from Covid.   1:30:02 - Reopening schools debate is becoming very politically charged. Not to mention the food distribution that schools provide. With families staying home, and many families disproportionately being affected by Covid, the question becomes how will they be able to physically attend their jobs while the children are home, and provide the extra 2 meals per day that the schools were supplying?   1:32:11 - Wealth disparity. The large companies are benefitting from the downfall of their smaller competitors from the decline of consumer demand due to Covid. Other companies with an online presence saw a boost in business as good and services moved online. The debate whether companies will stay remote long after the virus to lower company costs.   1:39:27 - With work moving online, this brings the option of hiring workers from overseas that’s lower in cost relative to the U.S. Cost of being an employee vs. employer.   1:42:22 - Tools for automation.   1:44:55 - Scale by Jeffrey West is the book used for the next podcast episode. Stay tuned for future episodes. We are happy to be back!   We're back with an off-topic episode of Made You Think after almost a year and a half hiatus. The plan was to catch up on what's been going on, but that didn't happen and we ended up talking a lot about COVID, the economy, politics, some books we'd read, and a whole lot more.   If you've missed us or are new to the pod, this is a great way to dive back in before our next real episode which should be out in a week or two.

According to New Republic editor Timothy Noah, author of The Great Divergence: America's Growing Inequality Crisis and What We Can Do About It, America is in the midst of two significant divergences that are causing increasing wealth disparity. The first is between people with college or graduate degrees and people with lower levels of education. The second is between the 1 percent (people in the financial industry and leaders of corporations) and the 99 percent (everyone else). He explains how both divergences have their roots in the late 1970s, and what we can do to stop the gap between rich and poor from growing.
