Gaspard Augé has always been obsessed with making larger-than-life music. Known to many as one half of Justice, the duo that united rock and rave in the mid-2000s and whose smash dancefloor hits defined a generation, his debut album, Escapades, is his most ambitious and satisfying solo effort to date. It's full of bombastic playfulness, sprawling dreamscapes, and heartfelt sugar rushes. In this episode, Gaspard Augé tells us about the cinematic inspirations behind the epic sounds on Escapades and what it was like to record the album in iconic Parisian studios Enterprise, and Motorbass Studios, the former home of the late great Philippe Zdar of Cassius. He also talks us through his formative years shaping the seminal Ed Banger imprint with friends and collaborators So Me, SebastiAn, Mr. Oizo, and the late DJ Mehdi, among others.
This week, Lee is in conversation with Kate Miles-Roberts and Bev Holden, the founders of Clear Thinking, about the ways in which we can think a little more clearly, to feel more at ease and in comfort, and by doing so create great things. KEY TAKEAWAYS Wisdom so often resides in a room with people in it. The purpose of Clear Thinking is to create a sense of ease and comfort, which in turn encourages the perspectives, input and wisdom of those in the room. Thinking is the most important starting point for any endeavour. It is far more effective that fulfilling some nameless API or business target. Every thought we have affects the way that we feel. This in turn affects the way we behave or operate. Therefore, effective thought is at the heart of every action. Effective coaching is the form that causes people to think, and to try and find the solution for themselves. We'd love to connect with you and hear stories of what God has said to you through these times in His presence. Reach out via podcast@thehopeco.com or follow along with us on Instagram @practicinghispresence! Today's practice is a Divine Reading (traditionally known as Lectio Divina) where we will invite God's voice to speak to us as we meditate upon a passage from the book of Isaiah. We love this description of the practice of Lectio Divina from John Mark Comer: "Lectio Divina (Latin for “spiritual reading”) is a way of reading Scripture with the specific aim of hearing God's voice over your life. There are four basics movements (from four Latin words), but the mechanics are not as important as many people think. It's less of a technique, and more of a heart posture and pace. The basic idea is simply to find a quiet place to read Scripture slowly with your ear open to God's voice through the text. Unlike Bible study (another wonderful practice) the goal is less to hear what he was saying to them (the original audience), but to take the next step and hear what he is saying to you." This week's passage is Genesis 15:1-6 'Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.” But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord , what good are all your blessings when I don't even have a son? Since you've given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.” Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That's how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord , and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.'

I am glad that I have come this far. Today I was on the verge of losing it on my older son for a blunder he made. Yes, it was a genuine blunder. But then I took a pause and asked myself. What's its effect on the larger scheme of things. 'Some attitudinal effect for sure' So I held my horses and waited for an appropriate time to have a conversation. And I had the conversation. Was it successful ? I don't know. But I am definitely doing a happy jig on my ability to have a conversation with the boy. In this episode I share some practical tips from my personal experiences on how to get the kids listen to you. What are your tricks under your hand to ensure that your kids listen to you?
'Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.' Psalms 20:7 NLT 'Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits ' Psalms 103:2 NIV THE GOD WHO HEALS He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NLT THE GOD WHO PROVIDES 'Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). Genesis 22:13-14 NLT Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 FEAR IS CONQUERED BY FAITH AND FAITH IS FUELED BY TRUST One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.” 2 Kings 4:1 NLT 1. GOD CARES ABOUT YOUR SITUATION 'The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.' Psalms 34:17-18 NLT “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. 2 Kings 4:2 NLT Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things. Psalms 81:10 NLT But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around. Psalms 81:11 NLT 2. YOUR MINDSET MATTERS “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” 2 Kings 4:2 NLT “Nothing at all…" she replied. 2 Kings 4:2 NLT “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. 2 Kings 4:2 NLT 3. WE DO THE GIVING AND GOD DOES THE MULTIPLYING And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, “Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on what is left over.” 2 Kings 4:3-7 NLT 4. WHEN WE STOP GIVING GOD STOPS PROVIDING “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. 2 Kings 4:6 NLT 'Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” Mark 8:34-37 NLT
Stella Young was just 32 when she died suddenly in December 2014. She was just winning fame as a comedian (Best newcomer, Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2014) and her TED talk from June of that year was a smash. That talk about the objectification of people with disabilities as 'inspiration porn' has now been viewed over 4 million times. Her memorial at Melbourne Town Hall was an amazing event, attended by many in the intersecting worlds of comedy, media and disability. Stella's great friend Nelly Thomas delivered one of the eulogies, and it was funny and uplifting, and reminded everyone of the scale of the loss. 'That girl was on a rocket ship to the moon' is one of Nelly's beautiful closing lines. John 16:26-27 NLT GOD IS RIGHTEOUS 'And this will be his name: ‘The Lord Is Our Righteousness.’ Jeremiah 23:6 NLT 'Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. ' Philippians 3:8-9 NLT 1. SPIRITUAL SLAVERY IS A CHOICE 'Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living… Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.' Romans 6:16,19 NLT 'We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin.' Romans 6:6,10 NLT 2. SPIRITUAL SEPERATION IS A CHOICE 'When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right. And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom. ' Romans 6:20-21 NLT 'But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life. For the wages of sin is death...' Romans 6:22-23 NLT 3. SALVATION IS A CHOICE 'For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.' Romans 6:23 NLT GOD IS OUR SANCTIFIER 'Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. ' Galatians 5:24-25 NLT 'And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” ' Joshua 3:5 NKJV
I've been promising for a couple months now that we'd start covering the odd Playstation 3/Xbox 360 game. Whether or not these games are considered "retro" had been a divisive topic among our listeners, but more and more younger fans of the show have reached out and said these games were to them what the NES, SNES, and Genesis were to old folk like me. So I decided to play to the young whippersnappers with the occasional episode, and why not start with one of the biggest games of the generation; The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This game intimidates me. There's so much to cover and talk about. Everyone experiences it differently. For example, I have 100 hours logged in this game and I've never finished it. I don't really know what the story is. I just like exploring. My guest, former RTG Hall of Fame Mark McCue, has finished it several times, and knows all about the various stories and sub-stories and everything. We spent almost an hour and a half talking about Skyrim. The good, the bad, the bugs. What it did for gaming, and what the next entry has to do to stay relevant. This is the longest episode in RTG history, and I hope it proves to be worth your time. And of course, before Skyrim, it's the Remember The Game Infamous Intro! This week, I get into stuff like the frustrations that come with trying to learn a game at a high level, and whether or not Nintendo will ever implement their own Trophies/Achievements system. We also talk about the growing number of game studios popping up in the news due to poor work conditions, harassment, and abusive management, and if we, as gamers, should still be supporting them. Plus, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This time, it's the 'Some of the best games from the PS3/Xbox 360 era' edition, featuring Dead Space, Batman: Arkahm City, and Fallout 3. This is a big 'un. If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - Intro 3:30 - Initial self-indulgent rambling & 'Expansion Pass #44: Worst Enemies in Gaming' Clip 11:46 - 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions) 25:05 - 'Play One. Remake One. Erase One.' 38:58 - What have I been playing? 41:16 - Listener's Skyrim Memories 45:00 + Skyrim Talk! Enjoy the podcast!

After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, Arthur discovered the field of Landscape Architecture. Although the field was beginning to take off thanks to the Olmsteds, Charles Eliot, and the Chicago World's Fair, there were no formal degree programs for the field. As a result, Arthur cobbled together his own curriculum at the Lawrence School of Science at Harvard. All his life, Arthur had a lifelong love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed camping, canoeing, scenery, and sketching. Looking back on his pursuit of Landscape Architecture, Arthur reflected, "All led me away from mechanics toward scenery, toward planning and construction for the scenes of daily life..." In terms of his career, Arthur will forever be remembered for the work he did at Colonial Williamsburg. The project at Williamsburg was funded by John D. Rockefeller and the mission was a total community restoration. The scope was enormous. Arthur had over 30 years of experience when he started work on the project on St. Patrick's Day in 1928. In addition to his Landscape Architecture skills; Arthur leveraged his training in engineering, his meticulousness, and his personal energy, and charm. It wasn't just the buildings that needed restoration; it was the land, the paths, the streets, the gardens, and green spaces. Arthur wrote about his daily quest to uncover the past. One entry said: “Wednesday morning saw me in the old-fashioned gardens in the heart of the town. These old places… now gone to decay are filled with a kind of golden glory which is lacking in the new gardens. The old lattice trellises, ruined box hedges, and even the weed-grown paths seem to have the glamor of the sunshine from the olden days.” Every aspect of the town was fully researched. When it came to garden plans and plant selection, Arthur insisted that authenticity was paramount. For example, Arthur’s team actually searched for original fence-post holes to determine the colonially-accurate backyard. It’s no wonder that it took Arthur 13 years to finish the project. Arthur’s signature plant was the boxwood which he called Box for short. Williamsburg required boatloads of Box and Arthur wrote, “In replanting Williamsburg places much use should be made of Box… even allowing it to dominate the parterres and bed traceries… Generous use of Box in this manner [will define the] display and [help with the] upkeep of flowers especially in the dry season...” Arthur’s passion could get the best of him. The woman who lived at the St. George Tucker House, wrote this entry in her diary in January 1931: “Today I was asked to go over the yard with Mr. Arthur Shurcliff… I found him a very alarming person! Somehow the idea of changing the yard and garden is much more repellent to me than changing the house, and this is such a terribly enthusiastic man!” And, when Arthur returned in May, she wrote, “[He came] down like a wolf on the fold again today. He rushed in and out... with charts and plans for all sorts of alarming ‘landscapes’ in our yard. He has boxwood on the brain.” Luckily for Arthur, his charm counteracted any hesitance caused by his exuberance. When Colonial Williamsburg was revealed to the public in 1934, Arthur’s Colonial Revival style gardens — complete boxwood — caused a sensation. Soon, Revival Garden design appeared in suburbs all across America. Once the restoration was complete, Arthur Shurcliff had redefined Williamsburg. By reclaiming the past, Colonial Williamsburg found a path forward. And, thanks to Arthur’s incredible efforts, Revival Garden design took its place in 20th Century Landscape Architecture. November 12, 1972 On this day The Greenville News shared an article called Orchidist Finds Hobby Versatile. The orchidologist was Gilbert L. Campbell. During six years of collecting, Gilbert amassed more than 300 plants - in addition to a library of orchid reference materials. Orchid lovers can grow orchids all year long indoors in their homes. When Gilbert’s passion outgrew his house, he built a greenhouse and in a short time, he built a second greenhouse. Gilbert said, "Some orchidologists do grow their flowers in their homes... [but I advise against it. Growing an orchid is like being a fisherman. 'Some fishermen may be content to sit on the bank and fish, but most want to get out in a boat on the lake. It's a lot easier to grow orchids in a greenhouse [due to temperature and humidity control]. ” As for why Gilbert had two greenhouses, his answer was simple: the cool greenhouse was for cymbidium orchids and the “medium” temp house was for the cattleyas. To show how significant the role temperature plays in growing orchids, the difference in temp between Gilbert’s two greenhouses was about 10 degrees. Gilbert reported that, “A medium house has a minimum temperature of 55 to 60 degrees and a cool house has a minimum of 45-50 degrees.” Finally, Gilbert advises plenty of fresh air. Gilbert’s orchids are moved outside in summer and on balmy days throughout the winter. Gilbert says: "Orchids, like people, do best in a spring-like fresh-feeling atmosphere… Beginners should start with a few mature plants. Orchids like dry roots, so they should be watered thoroughly, then allowed to dry out." November 12, 2013 Today is the anniversary of the death of the World War II hero and garden historian and restorer extraordinaire Mavis Batey, who died at the age of 92. Mavis broke the German Enigma code, which allowed the Allied forces to stage their D-Day invasion. In the back half of her life, Mavis became a champion for forgotten, yet historically significant, English gardens. She also became a garden historian and writer, writing books on Jane Austen and Alexander Pope. In 1955, Mavis and her code-breaker husband Keith settled on a farm in Surrey. The property sparked Mavis’s passion for Landscape history. After moving to Oxford, Mavis and her family lived in a fantastic park designed by Capability Brown. The park was also home to a garden designed by William Mason in 1775. Mavis recalled: "We lived in the agent's house, right in the middle of a Capability Brown park, but it was William Mason's garden that really got me. We had to cut our way into it. It was all overgrown, and garden ornaments were buried in the grass. I knew at once it wasn't just an ordinary derelict garden: someone had tried to say something there." Mavis Batey used her wit and determination to become a force in numerous conservation organizations and missions like the Garden History Society, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, and English Heritage’s Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. In 1985 Mavis was honored with the RHS Veitch Memorial Medal for her invaluable work preserving gardens that would otherwise have been lost to time. Unearthed Words If you plant spring bulbs, I hope you remember to include hyacinths. The hyacinth is in the asparagus (Asparagaceae) family. Native to the Eastern Mediterranean, they grow throughout Asia Minor, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Nowadays, the hyacinth is mainly grown in Holland. If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft, And of thy meager store, Two loaves alone to thee are left, Sell one, and with the dole Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul. — Saadi, Persian Sufi poet, in Gulistan (The Rose Garden), 1258 Grow That Garden Library The Seed Garden by Lee Buttala, Shanyn Siegel, et al. Today’s Botanic Spark November 12, 1993 Today is the anniversary of the death of Washington Post columnist and gardener Henry Clay Mitchell. Henry wrote mainly about gardening and miscellaneous aspects of his daily Washington life. Pragmatic and humorous, Henry’s garden advice struck a chord with his readers. His weekly garden advice was compiled into two bestsellers named after his column Earthman. A southerner and a gentleman, Henry found tranquility and restoration in his garden. Like most of us gardeners, Henry had his favorites. Of the Japanese Iris, Henry wrote, “[It’s] a fine flower for anybody who thinks nothing can be too gaudy, too overstated, too imperial. I have known rednecks who adored it.” A dog lover, Henry recognized his garden didn’t exist in a bubble but was fully part of the natural world. Henry reflected, “Squirrels eat a lot of bulbs -- they are in heaven when they find the cyclamen and crocuses -- but they keep the garden interesting for the family dog... And besides, the squirrels are more attractive than the cyclamen probably would have been anyway." And, Henry's obituary in the Washington Post shared his love of gardening: “Gardening was a part of his life almost from the time he was born. When he was a small boy, he would pick up autumn leaves or pluck the petals from tiger lilies and admire them when his mother took him walking. He had a garden from the time he was old enough to work in it. He could rattle off the Latin names of perhaps 3,000 plants. He said, he learned about gardening because he was "passionately fond of flowers." The failure of such projects as grafting a carnation onto a prickly pear cactus left him undaunted.” And, if you have a steadfast love your garden - warts and all - you’ll feel a kinship with these words by Henry from his 1992 book One Man's Garden: It is agreeable to waddle about in one's own paradise, knowing that thousands of others have better gardens with better thises and thats, and better grown too, and no weeds at all… To know this and grin as complacently as a terrier who just got into the deviled eggs, and to reflect that there is no garden in England or France I envy, and not one I'd swap for mine: this is the aim of gardening — not to make us complacent idiots, exactly, but to make us content and calm for a time, with sufficient energy (even after bitter wars with bindweed) to feel an awestruck thanks to God that such happiness can exist. For a few days, of course.

The death of student Sophia Crestani at a party at a Dunedin flat last year is "a loss that can never be rationalised, justified or forgotten", her parents say. However, nine months after her death, it is hoped the launch of a charter in her memory will improve student safety and well-being in North Dunedin. The Sophia Charter is a multi-agency agreement signed this evening by stakeholders from the University of Otago, police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, the Otago Property Investors Association, the Dunedin City Council and the Otago University Students Association. The ultimate goal was to provide a ''circle of support'' to ensure that North Dunedin became a stronger student neighbourhood where residents took responsibility for themselves, each other and the wider community. The charter stemmed from the Crestani family's shared goal to ensure there would be improvements to student safety and well-being following her death.Crestani, a 19-year-old second year University of Otago student, died in October 2019 when she was caught in a stairwell pile-up at a flat known as The Manor in Dundas St.Parents Elspeth McMillan and Bede Crestani, of Wellington, said her death was a tragic loss for them, her family, friends, community and the University of Otago community.''It is a loss that can never be rationalised, justified or forgotten.''We want some good to come out of this, and by working with the students and support organisations, we hope to keep other students safe, so that they go home to their families and mature into caring, generous adults and have full lives.''Some courageous decisions have been made since Sophia died and we are here to support and endorse this new way forward.''Many of Crestani's relatives were present at tonight's signing ceremony, including her twin sister and friends from Wellington. They gathered in a packed room in the university's clock tower building for speeches and the signing of the charter by Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins, Fire and Emergency New Zealand East Otago assistant area commander Craig Geddes, University of Otago vice-chancellor Prof Harlene Hayne, Otago coastal area commander Inspector Marty Gray and Otago University Students' Association president Jack Manning.McMillian said The Sophia Charter was developed because "we didn't want her death to be in vain."She said her daughter wanted to be an actuary and loved children."She was joyful, creative, she always lit up any room she walked into. It's a big loss, not just for us - but for everyone. She always said she wanted to have children young... it's sad she won't get to fulfil those dreams."Crestani wanted to have the Otago experience and loved her time as a student, her father said."She loved her time here, she loved the community, she grew as a person and was making her own decisions, she was a lovely girl."Crestani said Sophia was "turning into a great young woman... It was a tragic time for us, it remains that way and always will do."The family were working towards a second scholarship in her name, with more than $70,000 raised for the first.Following Crestani's death, stakeholders met to renew their resolution to support students to reduce harm and to increase well-being.Measures enabled by The Sophia Charter for Community Responsibility and Wellbeing's and the accompanying agreement between agencies include that the university works with OUSA on opportunities to use Starters Bar in North Dunedin and other venues to support student social activity; that police continue to work with the university to establish a clear set of working principles regarding large parties and gatherings; and that the university continues to work with Government and the DCC on changes that will reduce alcohol-related harm.'TAKE TIME TO THINK'McMillian said she hoped students would take time to assess situations they found themselves in."Take that time to think or assess the situation and get out if you need to. Looking for the...

For the first time in five years, Gavan took a step back from social media for an entire month! But how did it go? Gavan's here to talk about his experience, how it's affected his outlook on the world, the top ten tips around how you can do it for yourselves, and the lessons that we can all collectively learn in order to better ourselves by taking that break. KEY TAKEAWAYS It may sound crazy, but taking a break from social media is as important a part of your social output as creating the content! If you're constantly posting, then taking a break is a way to revitalise interest. Make sure you take a break for the right reasons. If you're taking a break to regroup or work on something in the real world, then great! It'll make you stronger. If you're taking a break, make a clear statement to that effect. Remember not to make it a self-pitying declaration, but a simple, brief and positive farewell, with a promise that you'll be back soon. If you're going away to work on something big, then make sure you tell people that's what you're doing. Start the hype now! Start that breadcrumb trail now! Commit to it 100%! When you're on social media, make sure you're having an impact. If you're taking a break then commit to it and use the time to its full potential. Why not devote yourself to something SO big, that you have no choice but to leave social media for a while? Dream big, think big, and create like crazy! If you're not on social media, then swap something into its place in your life. Meditation is a great way of reconnecting with your mind and your senses. Let's get the creativity flowing. Make a podcast. Write something. Play a song. Engage! Get out there and do something to add to the positivity we all need right now. If you're spread across several different types of social media, think hard about how they're returning value to you. Double down on the ones that are the most valuable to you and think about cutting the others loose. BEST MOMENTS ‘Podcasting is like a traditional wireless' ‘Producers win and consumers lose' ‘I'm not trying to create a successful business. I'm trying to change the f**king world!' ‘I hope your granny's bunions are okay' 'Some of you lot are half-in, half-out like the Hokey-Cokey' ‘Go big or go home!' I started blogging in February 2016 when I moved from South Africa to the North of England. A lot has changed since then and these changes have led to the creation of Regeneration Studio, which I discuss in three parts.Part 1: "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone…” '0:30'Some of you might be familiar with my original blog, Teesside Cat, about the ‘infinite-tees’ of life. It was meant to capture the fact that life was not straightforward. It teases us in a sense, because there are so many possibilities. I wanted to capture the infinite sense of possibilities by exploring as many of them as humanly possible. I focused on the North of England as I felt it was an underrated location of great beauty, diversity and interest... Part 2: Why? '2:27'This part explains why I moved from South Africa to England and explores in further detail why I started blogging. It also explains why I stopped and how various changes in my life led to the creation of Regeneration Studio.Part 3: Five Key Pillars '2:54'Which businesses am I going to collaborate with? I explain the five key values that will determine who I interview. In the next blog post and podcast - ‘Reconnection’ - I have some really exciting news to share. Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is one of the most complicated things in property. It's also one of the most misrepresented things in property, usually through solicitors or accountants who don't truly know what they're talking about. Luckily, Shaz does know what he's talking about, and this week he's talking to you about this complex issue in the hopes that by knowing more, you'll be able to take better advantage of some of the opportunities that not many know of. KEY TAKEAWAYS Some accountants and solicitors don't understand the many rules of Stamp Duty Land Tax, and therefore don't truly understand all the rules. They can also be guilty of simplifying the process, which is also a mistake. It's complicated, and that's the painful truth of the matter. Multiple Dwellings Relief - People are often wrongly advised that you need to buy six or more properties in order for Multiple Dwellings Relief to apply. That isn't true. Multiple means just that. You only need to buy two or more. If you buy six or more dwellings in a single transaction, you can use commercial rates of Stamp Duty. The nil rate, in this case, is much higher. If you have an annexe, and if it fulfils the HMRC definition of a dwelling, which is a building suitable for use as a single dwelling, you could be missing out on additional stamp duty paid. BEST MOMENTS 'Some advisors tend to simplify it, and it isn't as simple as they make it out to be' ‘Over £20,000. That is huge!' ‘Do the calculation and see which one comes out best for you' 'Stamp Duty Land Tax is a very complex area' ABOUT THE HOST Shaz Nawaz is a serial entrepreneur; he owns five thriving businesses in diverse sectors. Welcome to part 2 of my interview with actor, singer and comedian Michael Crawford. In part 1 we talked about Michael’s career, his rise to fame through television in the hit series Some mothers to his award winning performance in The Phantom of the opera on Broadway. In this second episode our conversation moves on to how Michael at the height of his career contracted a mystery illness (later diagnosed as M.E) while performing on the West End stage.M.E or Chronic Fatigue syndrome affects an estimated 250,000 people in the UK, and around 17 million people worldwide. It is a fluctuating, neurological condition with symptoms affecting many of body systems, most commonly the nervous and immune systems. People with M.E/C.F.Sexperience debilitating pain, fatigue and other debilitating symptoms associated with the body and brain’s inability to recover after expending even small amounts of energy. As yet there is no medical cure.Perhaps the greatest challenge for sufferers is the difficulties in diagnosis and the common misconceptions around the condition which can lead to doubts about is validity. It was through M.E that I met Michael when I had the condition myself, his help and support was a valuable part of my recovery from the condition.Although there is no known cure for the condition we talk about the strategies and behaviours that can support recovery. We talk about how it took a complete change of lifestyle for Michael to recover and “reboot” his life, and his triumphant return to the West End stage .The recreation of the famous scene from 'Some mothers do have em' where Michael hangs off the back of a London bus at the London 2012 Olympics and Michael's reflections on his resulting changing life priorities and his continued work with children charities. If you would like to share your experiences of adversity you can join the Turning the Tables community on Facebook here If you suffer from M.E/C.F.S here are some of the resources that helped me in my recovery and you may wish to explore.Therapies and resources; www.theoptimumhealthclinic.comwww.ansrewire.com www.actionforme.org.uk Episode credits;Editor and sound engineer : Tim White email: showupnow@gmail.comMusic : Broken Elegance - Unconditionally.https://www.youtube.com/c/BrokenElegance?gvnc=1 Growing Up, Elementary, Dream to flying and Childhood by Scott Buckleywww.scottbuckley.com.au

The Bible also tells us that things will get worse and people will go about deceiving and being deceived.

Brevities #OTD Today is the anniversary of the death of the French admiral and explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who died on this day in 1729. On Bougainville's expedition, a woman named Jeanne Baret joined the crew after posing as a valet to the expedition's naturalist: Philibert Commerçon. Commerçon had terrible health, and he likely needed Baret to help him. Baret herself was actually a botanist in her own right. When the ship stopped in Rio de Janeiro, it was Baret who ventured out into the tropics and returned with the lovely tropical vine that would be named to honor the expedition's commander: Bougainvillea. #OTD Today is the birthday of Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz, who was born on this day in 1793. When the German poet Adelbert van Chamiso ended up in the San Francisco Bay area, and he wrote about the California poppy, which he named Eschscholzia California after his friend Johann Friedrich Von Eschscholz. In return, Eschscholz named a bunch of plants after Chamisso - a little quid pro quo. In 1903, the botanist Sarah Plummer Lemmon put forth a successful piece of legislation that nominated the golden poppy (Eschscholzia californica) as the state flower of California. #OTD Today is the anniversary of the death of the Landscape Architect Arthur Shurcliff who died on this day in 1957. Shurcliff's path to Landscape Architecture was not clear cut. His dad had been a successful businessman, and Arthur was supposed to follow in his dad's footsteps and become a Mechanical Engineer. But after receiving his degree from MIT, the field of Landscape Architecture was making waves thanks to the Olmsteds, Charles Eliot, and the Chicago World's Fair. Since no formal degree programs existed at the time, Shurcliff cobbled together his own curriculum at the Lawrence School of Science at Harvard. All his life, Shurcliff loved being outside. He enjoyed camping and canoeing. He loved scenery and sketching the landscape. Looking back on his decision to pursue Landscape Architecture, Shurcliff remembered, "All led me away from mechanics toward scenery, toward planning and construction for the scenes of daily life..." In 1904, Shurcliff opened his own firm. Shurcliff designed recreational spaces in and around Boston like the Rose Garden, the Washington Garden at old North, and the park Back Bay Fens. But, Shurcliff will forever be remembered for the work he did at Colonial Williamsburg. It was the first time an entire American community was to be restored. John D. Rockefeller financed the project. Shurcliff had over 30 years of experience behind him when he officially started the project on St. Patrick's Day of that year. He didn't just bring his Landscape Architecture skills; he brought everything he had; his training in engineering, his meticulousness, and his ability to get things done through his personal clarity, energy, and charm. The project would use every bit of knowledge, skills, and expertise that Shurcliff had acquired. It wasn't just the buildings that needed restoration; it was the land, the paths and streets, the gardens, and green spaces. It required tremendous research to restore it all. Shurcliff insisted that wherever possible, original items and authenticity was paramount. For example, Shurcliff's team actually went looking for "fence-post holes to ascertain the outlines of a "typical" backyard" - this was a true restoration in every sense of the word. It took Arthur Shurcliff 13 years to finish the project. But, once it was done, Shurcliff had redefined Williamsburg; helping it to lay claim to it's past and ensuring that Colonial Revival garden design found legitimacy in 20th Century Landscape Architecture. #OTD On this day in 1972 that The Greenville News shared an article called Orchidist Finds Hobby Versatile. The orchidologist was Gilbert L. Campbell. At the time the article was published, Campbell had been collecting orchids for six years, and he had amassed a collection of more than 300 plants in addition to a library of orchid reference materials. Campbell recalled, "My first orchid was a gift,' and it led him to visit a commercial orchidologist in Newberry for more information. Orchid lovers grow orchids all year long, and his passion led him to add greenhouses to help with his hobby. Campbell said, "Some orchidologists do grow their flowers in their homes... but he advises against it. 'Growing an orchid is like being a fisherman,' he says. 'Some fishermen may be content to sit on the bank and fish, but most want to get out in a boat on the lake. It's a lot easier to grow orchids in a greenhouse.' He cites temperature and humidity control as one major benefit of growing the tropic blooms "under glass." As for why Campbell had two greenhouses, his answer was simple. "He has the two, he says, because he needs a "cool" house for his cymbidium orchids and a "medium" house for his cattleyas. In "orchidese" this means a temperature difference of 5- 10 degrees. A "medium" house, he says, has a minimum temperature of 55 to 60 degrees, and a "cool" house, a minimum of 45-50 degrees. Campbell also advocates fresh air for the plants, which he moves outside in summer and on balmy days throughout the winter. "Orchids, like people, do best in a spring-like fresh-feeling atmosphere," The two things which cause growers the most difficulty, he believes, are proper watering of plants and placement for best performance." When a plant ceases to function properly, it is vulnerable to insects and disease," he notes, adding that his constant problem, snails, crops up periodically. To help combat problems, he makes these recommendations: For the beginner, start with a few mature plants. Orchids like dry roots, so they should be watered thoroughly, then allowed to dry out." #OTD Today is the anniversary of the death of the Spanish rose breeder Pedro Dot who died on this day in 1976. As a young boy, Pedro learned about plants from his father, who was a highly regarded gardener and plant breeder. The estate where his father worked, grew roses and the Marquise of the estate funded Pedro's early work in hybridizing. Dot is remembered for his white rose, which came out in 1927. It was called Nevada and is named for its color. Nevada is the Spanish word for "snowy." The British rosarian, Peter Beales, called 'Nevada' one of the best-known semi-double shrub roses. The American horticulturist and professor, Dr. Griffith Buck, taught horticulture at Iowa State University, and he created over 80 cultivars of rose. When Buck wanted to name one of his roses after Pedro Dot, he reached out to his son. He wrote: “I wanted to name a rose after Pedro Dot, a famous Spanish rose breeder who supported me in my breeding. I wrote to Pedro’s son, telling him that I would like to name this rose for his father. I told him I knew his father was very proud of being a Spaniard who was also proud of being a Catalonian. His son replied, “If you are going to name it for my father, why don’t you name it in Catalonian and call it ‘El Catala.’” “ which I did.” #OTD On this day in 1972, the Greenville News shared that the American Rose Society had chosen Pat Nixon to be their patroness. "Mrs. Richard M. Nixon recently accepted an invitation to become the first patroness of the American Rose Society on the invitation of Dr. Eldon W. Lyle, president of the group. She was presented with a brass gilded vase of 24 porcelain roses to commemorate the occasion. The Garden Party roses were created by Mrs. Oscar Tilleaux." Unearthed Words "Two sounds of autumn are unmistakable, the hurrying rustle of crisp leaves blown along the street or road by a gusty wind, and the gabble of a flock of migrating geese. Both are warnings of chill days ahead, fireside, and topcoat weather." - Hal Borland, Naturalist "The wind that makes music in November corn is in a hurry. The stalks hum, the loose husks whisk skyward in half-playing swirls, and the wind hurries on... A tree tries to argue, bare limbs waving, but there is no detaining the wind." - Aldo Leopold, Ecologist "It is autumn; not without But within me is the cold. Youth and spring are all about; It is I that have grown old." - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Autumn Within It's time to Grow That Garden Library with today's book: Herbal Tea Gardens by Marietta Marshall Marcin Create your own herbal tea garden! The White Buddha known as Ta' Mo would sit in his garden near the place and meditate through all the seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The White Buddha would meditate unblinking and unsleeping. Finally, after many years, His attention wavered, his chin dropped, and his eyes closed in sleep. When the White Buddha awakened - Perhaps a day or year later - he was so angry with himself for neglecting his meditation that he took out a knife's life, sliced off both his eyelids and threw them on the ground. The Saint's eyelids took root in the fertile soil and grew into a tea bush, the symbol for wakefulness. Today's Garden Chore Now is the perfect time to pot up some Paperwhite or Amaryllis bulbs for forcing this winter. Paperwhites (Narcissus papyraceus) and Amaryllis (Hippeastrumspp.), make great gifts and to your holiday décor. One of my favorite Christmas mantles over the fireplace featured a row of these large silver goblets that I used to pot up Paperwhites. Along the feet of the goblets, I strung Christmas lights, and on top of the mantle, I had laid a sheet of moss. It was such a gardener's holiday mantle. Something Sweet Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart #OTD Today is the anniversary of the death of Mavis Batey, who died at the age of 92 on this day in 2013. Mavis Batey is remembered for her work with the Enigma research team. Mavis broke the German Enigma code, which allowed the Allied forces to stage their D-Day invasion. In 1955, Mavis and her husband settled on a farm in Surrey. It was here that Mavis began learning about Landscape history. After Surrey, the Bateys moved to Oxford and lived on a park designed by Capability Brown. The park was also home to a garden designed by William Mason in 1775. Mavis recalled: "We lived in the agent's house, right in the middle of a Capability Brown park, but it was William Mason's garden that really got me. We had to cut our way into it. It was all overgrown and garden ornaments were buried in the grass, but I knew at once it wasn't just an ordinary derelict garden: someone had tried to say something there, I knew at once it wasn't just an ordinary derelict garden: someone had tried to say something there." It wouldn't be the last garden Mavis Batey saved. In 1986 Mavis was honored with the Veitch Memorial Medal for her work, preserving gardens that would otherwise have been lost to time. Thanks for listening to the daily gardener, and remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."

At the start of the year I began reading The Bible from the beginning. It's almost the end of September and I am up to Chapter 22 in Leviticus, the third book of The Bible! Just so you don't think I am a complete slacker, I have been reading other parts of The Bible too - Proverbs, Psalms, and various books in the New Testament. But I have struggled with reading the Old Testament. I've just calculated that it has taken me about 300 days to read 141 pages, so at that rate, I should finish reading the Old Testament by 2030! I have this mindset that that says 'Some of the Old Testament is just not that interesting, so why should I read this.' Now I know that mindset is wrong. So I have pressed on and will continue to read it, simply because God has been speaking to me through each passage I've read from the Old Testament. This morning I read from Leviticus 21 .... "He may eat the bread of his God, both the most holy and the holy; only he shall not go near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a defect, lest he profane My sanctuaries; for I the LORD sanctify them." And Moses told it to Aaron and his sons, and to all the children of Israel. Leviticus 21:22-24 NKJV Now I don't pretend to understand much in these three verses, but these seven words stood out to me, 'he shall not go near the veil.' As I was reading those words this passage in Hebrews came to mind, thank you Holy Spirit. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:19-23 NKJV Today because of what Jesus did we can approach the altar. Because of Jesus' blood we can commune with a Holy God. Because of Jesus, we have faith, hope and love. The Passion Translation says it this way, And now we are brothers and sisters in God's family because of the blood of Jesus, and he welcomes us to come right into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm - boldly and with no hesitation. For he has dedicated a new life-giving way for us to approach God. For just as the veil was torn in two, Jesus' body was torn open to give us free and fresh access to him! And since we now have a magnificent King-Priest to welcome us into God's house, we come closer to God and approach him with an open heart, fully convinced by faith that nothing will keep us at a distance from him. For our hearts have been sprinkled with blood to remove impurity and we have been freed from an accusing conscience and now we are clean, unstained, and presentable to God inside and out! Hebrews 10:19-22 TPT Aside, there is a beautiful song, Clean, from Hillsong United's People -Live album, that simply declares that 'because of Jesus my heart is clean.' If you have a spare couple of minutes I think it is worth listening too, it very quickly centers your focus on Jesus. Back to the scripture, let's read these words again ... He welcomes us to come right into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm - boldly and with no hesitation. I remember hearing these words soon after I became a Christian 20-plus years ago, and I took these words literally into my heart - because of Jesus I am welcome at the altar. How precious is that truth! This truth gave me the confidence to come, just as I am and ask. The Amplified Bible translates verse 22 as ... Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22 AMP So today, let's acknowledge that Jesus has opened the way for us to go to the Father. Let's draw near with confidence, not because of who we are or what we have done, but because of who our God is and His unconditional love for us. Finally, just referring back to my Old Testament reading, lets encourage each other to read God's word, even when it doesn't seem very interesting to us. God is always wanting to reveal something more to us and remind us of His great love for us. He desires us to be purposefully drawing nearer to Him. Graham Romp | Genesis 12:1-8, Genesis 22:1-18 Several decades have passed between the events recorded in these two readings, including a change of name and many failures and wrong turnings. Through it all, Abraham's faith has grown, yet now he faces the ultimate challenge: is he prepared to give up everything he has lived for and trust God completely? Graham continues our Lessons for life series by looking at what we can learn from Abraham's relationship with God. The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him... 'Take your son, your only son, whom you love – Isaac – and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain that I will show you.' ... But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven... 'Do not lay a hand on the boy,' he said. 'Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.'
Hodder's biggest fiction launch of 2009: Matt Hilton's debut introducing series character Joe Hunter, Britain's best vigilante - fighting America's worst criminals. 'Some may call me a vigilante. I think I've just got problems to fix.' Right now, Hunter's big problem is a missing little brother, last seen fleeing the site of a gruesome killing. Hunter needs the help of an old army buddy, a whole lot of hardware and a trip to Little Rock, Arkansas, to fix this particular problem. A brutal encounter with some very nasty criminals leaves Hunter fighting for his life. And that's before he comes up against America's most feared serial killer, 'The Harvestman' and his grisly souvenirs of death. But blood is thicker than water. And a lot of blood will be spilt . . .

Quran Talk - God Alone, Quran Alone, Submission = True Islam
Subscribe to the podcast and notes: https://qurantalk.podbean.com/Quran translation on iOS: https://apple.co/2C1YGXjAdditional Resources: http://www.masjidtucson.orgContact: qurantalk (at) gmail (dot) com The Quran has a lot of prophecies Sura 44 is about the prophecy of the smoke Sura 54 is about the prophecy of the splitting of the moon Prophecy for the end of the world etc. Muhammad prophesied in Quran [61:6] Recall that Jesus, son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, I am GOD's messenger to you, confirming the Torah and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me whose name will be even more praised (Ahmad)." Then, when he showed them the clear proofs, they said, "This is profound magic." Deuteronomy 18:15 - "A prophet like me will the Lord, your God, raise for you from among your kinsmen; to him you shall listen. Deuteronomy 18:17-19 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among them, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. Acts 3:22-23 For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’ a Acts 7:37: This is the same Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers.’ Prophecy of Quran John 14:16 - 17 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. John 16:13 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. [65:10] GOD has prepared for them severe retribution. Therefore, you shall reverence GOD, O you who possess intelligence and believed. GOD has sent down to you a message—[65:11] a messenger who recites to you GOD's revelations, clearly, to lead those who believe and work righteousness out of the darkness into the light. Anyone who believes in GOD and leads a righteous life, He will admit him into gardens with flowing streams; they abide therein forever. GOD will generously reward him. [17:85] They ask you about the revelation (Rooh). Say, "The revelation (Rooh) comes from my Lord. The knowledge given to you is minute.” [2:89] When this scripture came to them from GOD, and even though it agrees with, and confirms what they have, and even though they used to prophesy its advent when they talked with the disbelievers, when their own prophecy came to pass, they disbelieved therein. GOD's condemnation thus afflicts the disbelievers. [26:192] This is a revelation from the Lord of the universe. [26:193] The Honest Spirit (Gabriel) came down with it. [26:194] To reveal it into your heart, that you may be one of the warners. [26:195] In a perfect Arabic tongue. [26:196] It has been prophesied in the books of previous generations. [26:197] Is it not a sufficient sign for them that it was known to the scholars among the Children of Israel? Gospel of Truth "For he revealed it as a knowledge with which all its emanations agree, namely, the knowledge of the living book which he revealed to the Aeons at last as his letters, displaying to them that these are not merely vowels nor consonants, so that one may read them and think of something void of meaning; on the contrary, they are letters which convey the truth. They are pronounced only when they are known. Each letter is a perfect truth like a perfect book, for they are letters written by the hand of the unity, since the Father wrote them for the Aeons, so that they by means of his letters might come to know the Father.” Messenger of the Covenant Malachi 3 3 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty. 2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. [3:81] GOD took a covenant from the prophets, saying, "I will give you the scripture and wisdom. Afterwards, a messenger will come to confirm all existing scriptures. You shall believe in him and support him." He said, "Do you agree with this, and pledge to fulfill this covenant?" They said, "We agree." He said, "You have thus borne witness, and I bear witness along with you.” [33:7] Recall that we took from the prophets their covenant, including you (O Muhammad), Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary. We took from them a solemn pledge.* [33:40] Muhammad was not the father of any man among you. He was a messenger (rasool) of GOD and the final prophet (nabi). GOD is fully aware of all things. [7:35] O children of Adam, when messengers come to you from among you, and recite My revelations to you, those who take heed and lead a righteous life, will have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve. [10:20] They say, "How come no miracle came down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The future belongs to GOD; so wait, and I am waiting along with you." 1974 Rashad Khalifa discovered the mathematical structure of the Quran Sura 74 only sura mention number 19 [74:14] I made everything easy for him. [74:15] Yet, he is greedy for more. [74:16] He stubbornly refused to accept these proofs. [74:17] I will increasingly punish him. [74:18] For he reflected, then decided. [74:19] Miserable is what he decided. [74:20] Miserable indeed is what he decided. [74:21] He looked. [74:22] He frowned and whined. [74:23] Then he turned away arrogantly. [74:24] He said, "This is but clever magic! [74:25] "This is human made." [74:26] I will commit him to retribution. [74:27] What retribution! [74:28] Thorough and comprehensive. [74:29] Obvious to all the people. [74:30] Over it is nineteen. [74:31] We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, "What did GOD mean by this allegory?" GOD thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people. [74:32] Absolutely, (I swear) by the moon. [74:33] And the night as it passes. [74:34] And the morning as it shines. [74:35] This is one of the great miracles. [74:36] A warning to the human race. Number of words in 74:31 = 57 words = 19 x 3 First 19 verses of sura 74 also contain 57 words = 19 x 3 Number of words from the beginning of the sura to the word 19 (in arabic) is 95 words = 19 x 5 and 361 letters = 19 x 19 1974 = 1393 AH Quran was revealed in 13 BH = 13 + 1393 = 1406 1406 years since the revelation of the Quran = 1406 = 19 x 74 Happens in the Sura entitled Hidden Secret / aka cryptography kryptos," meaning "hidden," and "graphein," meaning "to write." Sura 42 and 50 have the letter qaff or Q in English 42 twice as long as 50 yet both contain 57 occurrences of the letter Q 114 chapters = 19 x 6 6346 = 19 x 334 Bism Allah Alraman Alraheem Bism = 19 Allah = 2698 = 19 x 142 Allrahamn = 57 = 19 x 3 Alraheem = 114 = 19 x 6 19 = Alpha and Omega / The beginning and the Last Muhammad did not have a physical miracle [10:20] They say, "How come no miracle came down to him from his Lord?" Say, "The future belongs to GOD; so wait, and I am waiting along with you.” Root Rashad occurs 19 times in the Quran Khalifa occurs twice in the Quran If you add all the sura and verse numbers where the root Rashad and Khalifa occur you get = 1463 = 19 x 77 God Guides Not the Liars [40:28] A believing man among Pharaoh's people, who was concealing his belief, said, "How can you kill a man just for saying, 'My Lord is GOD,' and he has shown you clear proofs from your Lord? If he is a liar, that is his problem, and if he is truthful, you benefit from his promises. Surely, GOD does not guide any transgressor, liar. [40:29] "O my people, today you have kingship and the upperhand. But who will help us against GOD's judgment, should it come to us?" Pharaoh said, "You are to follow only what I see fit; I will guide you only in the right path (سَبيلَ الرَّشادِ)." [40:30] The one who believed said, "O my people, I fear for you the same fate as the previous opponents. [40:31] "The opponents of Noah, and 'Ãd, Thamûd, and others who came after them. GOD does not wish any injustice for the people. [40:32] "O my people, I fear for you the Day of Summoning. [40:33] "That is the day when you may wish to turn around and flee. But nothing will protect you then from GOD. Whomever GOD sends astray, nothing can guide him." Who is the Last Messenger?* A Tragic Human Trait [40:34] Joseph had come to you before that with clear revelations, but you continued to doubt his message. Then, when he died you said, "GOD will not send any other messenger after him. (He was the last messenger)!"** GOD thus sends astray those who are transgressors, doubtful. [40:35] They argue against GOD's revelations, without any basis. This is a trait that is most abhorred by GOD and by those who believe. GOD thus seals the hearts of every arrogant tyrant. [40:36] Pharaoh said, "O Hãmãn, build for me a high tower, that I may reach out and discover. [40:37] "I want to reach the heaven, and take a look at the god of Moses. I believe he is a liar." Thus were the evil works of Pharaoh adorned in his eyes, and thus was he kept from following (the right) path. Pharaoh's scheming was truly evil. [40:38] The one who believed said, "O my people, follow me, and I will guide you in the right way. [40:39] "O my people, this first life is a temporary illusion, while the Hereafter is the eternal abode." The Best Deal [40:40] Whoever commits a sin is requited for just that, and whoever works righteousness—male or female—while believing, these will enter Paradise wherein they receive provisions without any limits. The Believing Egyptian Debates With His People [40:41] "O my people, while I invite you to be saved, you invite me to the hellfire. [40:42] "You invite me to be unappreciative of GOD, and to set up beside Him idols that I do not recognize. I am inviting you to the Almighty, the Forgiver. [40:43] "There is no doubt that what you invite me to do has no basis in this world, nor in the Hereafter, that our ultimate return is to GOD, and that the transgressors have incurred the hellfire. [40:44] "Some day you will remember what I am telling you now. I leave the judgment of this matter to GOD; GOD is the Seer of all the people." [40:45] GOD then protected him from their evil schemes, while the people of Pharaoh have incurred the worst retribution. [72:0] In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful [72:1] Say, "I was inspired that a group of jinns listened, then said, 'We have heard a wonderful Quran.* [72:2] "'It guides to righteousness (the right way) الرُّشْدِ, and we have believed in it; we will never set up any idols besides our Lord. [72:3] "'The Most High is our only Lord. He never had a mate, nor a son. [72:4] "'It is the foolish among us who used to utter such nonsense about GOD. [72:5] "'We thought that neither the humans, nor the jinns, could possibly utter lies about GOD. [72:6] "'Human beings used to seek power through jinn beings, but they only afflicted them with a lot of adversity. [72:7] "'They thought, just like you thought, that GOD would not send another (messenger). [72:8] "'We touched the heaven and found it filled with formidable guards and projectiles. [72:9] "'We used to sit there in order to spy. Anyone who listens is pursued by a powerful projectile. [72:10] "'We have no idea if something bad is intended for the inhabitants of Earth, or if their Lord wills to redeem them / (guide them to the) right path رَشَدًا. [72:11] "'Some of us are righteous, and some are less than righteous; we follow various paths. [72:12] "'We knew full well that we can never run away from GOD on earth; we can never run away and escape. [72:13] "'When we heard the guidance, we believed therein. Anyone who believes in his Lord will never fear any injustice, nor any affliction. [72:14] "'Among us are the submitters, and among us are the compromisers.'" As for those who submitted, they are on the right path رَشَدًا. [72:15] As for the compromisers, they will be fuel for Gehenna. [72:16] If they remain on the right path, we will bless them with abundant water. [72:17] We will surely test them all. As for him who disregards the message of his Lord, He will direct him to ever increasing retribution. [72:18] The places of worship belong to GOD; do not call on anyone else beside GOD. God's Messenger of the Covenant* [72:19] When GOD's servant* advocated Him alone, almost all of them banded together to oppose him. [72:20] Say, "I worship only my Lord; I never set up any idols besides Him." [72:21] Say, "I possess no power to harm you, nor (to guide you to the) right path رَشَدًا." [72:22] Say, "No one can protect me from GOD, nor can I find any other refuge besides Him. [72:23] "I deliver GOD's proclamations and messages." Those who disobey GOD and His messenger incur the fire of Hell, wherein they abide forever. [72:24] Once they see what is awaiting them, they will find out who is really weaker in power, and fewer in number. [72:25] Say, "I do not know if what is promised to you will happen soon, or if my Lord will delay it for awhile." [72:26] He is the Knower of the future; He does not reveal the future to anyone. [72:27] Only to a messenger that He chooses,* does He reveal from the past and the future, specific news.* [72:28] This is to ascertain that they have delivered their Lord's messages. He is fully aware of what they have. He has counted the numbers of all things. *72:1-28 The messenger here is named, mathematically, as "Rashad Khalifa,". The number of verses from 1:1 to 72:27, where the messenger is mentioned, is 5472, 19x72x4. The word "Rashada" occurs 4 times in Sura 72. The value of "Rashada" is 504, and 504+28 (verses of Sura 72) is 532, 19x28. The value of "Rashad Khalifa” = 505 + 725 +72+28=1330 =19x70. The digits of Sura 72 and its number of verses (28) add up to 7+2+2+8=19. Also, the crucial expression, "only to a messenger that He chooses" has a value of 1919, 19x101. إِلّا مَنِ ارتَضىٰ مِن رَسولٍ

11 ENTREPRENEUR TRUTHS I WISH I'D KNOWN In this episode, Rob shares the 11 things he wishes he had known when he was starting out. This podcast is an amazing opportunity to benefit from Rob's expertise and experience. The Disruptive Entrepreneur should be listened to now by anyone starting out in business, it will make a positive difference to your journey. KEY TAKEAWAYS 1 You're not alone You can feel that challenges are yours alone. In reality, you are not alone other entrepreneurs have faced the same challenges. Align yourself with people who can help you, mentor you, inspire you and lift you up, People who have the answers to your problems because they've been there. 2 It's good to want to make a difference but it's also good to want to make a profit The purpose of business is to take risks and the reward is profit. The ideal for sustainable and scalable business is to achieve a balance between serving, solving, caring, making a difference whilst equally being selfishly motivated to make a net profit margin. 3 Time management is easier than you think In reality, everyone has the same amount of time in the day. Time management is about time prioritising. It's about managing both your emotions and your planning. Compartmentalising is the key to managing your time successfully. If you know what you've got to do and when then it removes the emotions. 4 Manage and master your emotions well This is what will drive your business to be successful. Emotions can dominate the entrepreneur as things are not fair. Business mastery is taking events in your stride accepting them and not reacting to them emotionally so that you don't cause resistance or breakage. You have mastered your emotions when you can smile, be grateful and accept things even though that's not how you feel. 5 if you want to be great in business you need to be great at marketing The area you must be great at in any business is marketing. This is about promoting the products you have and getting them out there to the market. If you want to sell more, it's about creating a balance between putting out value and what you get back. If you want to sell more increase the amount of value you are putting out. 6 You need to up your game with social media This is a key requirement for any business in 2019 It's not just the volume of posts it's also about the quality. For organic content, LinkedIn extends your reach to a much larger contact base than other platforms. You should be increasing both the quality and quantity of your content to increase your reach. 7 The balance of confidence and humility ‘If you don't believe in yourself why should anyone else?' The belief about a business can come from the enjoyment and the passion and from the proof, the success of the results. Confidence can turn into hubris, arrogance, narcissism and complacency these are human traits. It's not about never experiencing them but about understanding and managing them. 8 What you should be planning for next The time is now to plan, prepare, save, get liquid for, and organise finance. You need to do these things right now to be ready for the next recession. It's coming, the signs are there so you need to be prepared so that you don't miss any of the opportunities that will available. 9 How you feel comparing yourself to others It's a curse but it can force you to grow and learn. If you are going to compare yourself to anyone else then make sure to do the upside as well as the downside. It's a futile exercise for me to try and be like Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of my heroes, the best thing is to use him to inspire me to be the best version of myself that I can be. 10 Knowing what type of business you are There are 3 main types of business person The intrapreneur - someone who wants to own things but doesn't want to take the risk these people often partner with an entrepreneur or work with autonomy within a large company. The lifestyle entrepreneur – who want to maximise their time. This is the most important thing to them, and they will sacrifice certain things to retain time and lifestyle. The empire builder – who wants vast scale, they want to grow something big and meaningful. 11 The myths of the hard sell Working hard is only part of the equation working smart is another part leveraging, outsourcing, getting low-value tasks done in a different way e.g. using apps, technology, virtual assistants can transform your business. BEST MOMENTS ‘It's about life and business prioritisation' ‘Get out of your own way' ‘A simple solution, you need to talk to other people' 'Don't do another thing that's not selling' 'Often the recipients of our worst emotions are those who are closet to us' 'No one is going to be pushing, selling or marketing your product for you' ‘Are you getting good discussions from your posts?' ‘You want to be humble to learn from everyone' 'Some of the biggest companies have been formed in recessions' 'You can never be a better version of them you can only be a better version of you' VALUABLE RESOURCES https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-disruptive-entrepreneur/id1076679649?mt=2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Routine-Re sults-Rob-Moore/dp/1909846759 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is the host of the UK's no. 1 business podcast “The Disruptive Entrepreneur,” as well as an entrepreneur, property investor, property educator, and holder of 3 world records for public speaking. In part one (0:00-19:30), the guys discuss what “son of” means in our current culture. They bring up certain phrases like “Sons of Anarchy,” “Sons of Liberty,” etc. Tim says this means that someone identifies with an idea or ideology. Tim then offers the fact that historically people have referred to Jesus as Christ. Christ is actually a Greek word meaning Messiah. Messiah in Hebrew means the anointed one. Tim then says that Jesus never referred to himself as Christ or Messiah, and when others would refer to him as this, he would reply that he is the “Son of Man.” Why is this? For example in Luke 9:18-22: "Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, 'Who do the crowds say I am?' They replied, 'Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.' 'But what about you?' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?' Peter answered, 'God’s Messiah.' Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And he said, 'The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.'" Jesus refers to himself as the Son of Man in the third person immediately after Peter called him the Messiah. Tim then posits that Paul doesn’t use the phrase “the Son of Man” in his writings. Instead, he uses phrases like “the firstborn of all creation” or “the new humanity.” Tim says this is because Paul is taking the message of Jesus to an international audience that isn’t familiar with what the Son of Man means. So what does the Son of Man mean? And where does it come from? Well in part two (19:30-32:00), Tim takes us to Daniel 7, a famous dream that Daniel had where the Son of Man appears. Tim says that this dream is very iconic and well known in Jewish history. Everyone would have known about it. Daniel has a dream about a succession of beasts that trample humanity. There are thrones established in the heavens over the earth, but only one of them is filled. It’s filled by the Ancient of Days, which is Daniel’s phrase for God/Yahweh. So there is an empty throne, then a figure called the Son of Man rides up on a cloud to the Ancient of Days. The Son of Man is presented to the Ancient of Days and then is given dominion. The Son of Man then sits down on the empty throne. In part three (32:00-end), the guys break down the phrase the Son of Man. If someone refers to themselves as “the Dark Knight,” people automatically know that they are referring to Batman. Similarly, if someone calls themselves “the Son of Man,” they are referring to a certain character in the Hebrew storyline. They discuss what it means for Jesus to be comfortable inserting himself into Daniel’s dream. Thank you to all of our supporters! @highhorseradio on twitter for any feedback or topics that you'd like discussed... This 125th edition of High Horse Radio is very special as the no nothing no it all combination of Andy Establishment, Fred Nation and J Dot take the listeners down to bizarre town... they actually just shuffle the panel around with Fred taking the roll of humble panelist.. alongside the man who's the complete opposite of humble. He's a barrage of truth serum followed by an orchestra of outspokenness, it's none other than Andy Establishment... And young J to the D to the O to the T is bringing you the action, as he takes over as Host for a trial run that proves to perhaps be the turning point for future episodes ahead.. And one of the main benefits for you the listener is you get Fred Nation on the panel bringing angles and insight, freed up from the feet up, with nothing but world ponderings coming at you...And with J Dot being the anchor both metaphorically and literally it is a sign of some changes ahead for our liberated syndication. Keeping in the spirit of coming at you with fresh and dangerous content..... This show kicks of with the "News And View's That Twist reality" - A third bathroom the answer for gender fluidity issues? I think not!.. A new dating app gives Americans the option of meeting a Canadian mate to avoid the possibility of a Trump presidency... Australia ahead of a lot of countries due to not having a past of puritan policies.. Does the rugged individualism off the United States reign supreme over Europe?...I guess what I'm saying is that wealth happens for a small few in the USA, whilst dominating the homeless problem per capita.. The top 10 countries that are easiest to get laid in gets brought up with Establishment being skeptical on the list due to personal experiences. Andy also tells of a legendary gay club in London called Heaven that he went to.. Plus if he had to pick a religion it'd be Lutheran, you still have faith in a god but just cut out the bullshit and middle man... Fred Nation tells of visiting Japan in a dreamy turn back time sort of way, with us the panel. He would ultimately like to play out his Asian fetishes (healthy of course) as we, white western men, are actually in high demand due to the fact our big old bodies are something different to these little Asian hotties...Those days are gone anyways due to the old ball and chains anyways so forget it (only kidding we love our partners dearly). He also tells how he's so sick of the left that he's ready for The Donald aka Trump..... The début of a new segment called "Is It Rude?" creates great content such as 'Some people are very gay and it's ok', just be authentic, it's not a license to be bitchy and mean...unless of course you are funny.. Plus Restaurant etiquette and kids on planes...Brazil and Poland are to churchy with their sexuality, you can look at my flesh, maybe a chew...but you can't fuck me!. This show is extra special with Fred Nation making the GIGANTIC announcement in the form of a cocksure (listen to full episode for definitive meaning) to Hillary Clinton being the next US president.. Not only that ladies and gentlemen, the incredibly elusive and sort after, almost enigmatic Patrick Peter makes his second only appearance via cell phone, having not been heard of since episode five... So tune in for the chaos and profound wisdom that ensues in this our one hundredth and twenty fifth anniversary episode of High Horse Radio. As a parent(1), I think a lot about my children's education(2). Is it good or bad? Is it varied, hands-on(3), relevant? The only way to really(4) find out, is to look at their text books, go to their schools, and talk to their teachers. And then, we have to remember that each person is unique; each has different preferences, ways of learning, and abilities. Some people are comfortable with academics, and others are not(5). Some students are good at taking exams, and others prefer to demonstrate their knowledge in other ways. Recently, my son Robert has been at home with a bad cough. He has been bugging me to buy him an electrical circuit. So, we shopped around until we found the perfect 'kit'(6). It has batteries, a light, a motor that spins, sound devices, and connecting wires. There is also a booklet(7) that gives instructions and warnings, pictures, and general advice. So Robert has spent hours connecting, fiddling(8), and creating, and every minute that goes by he learns something. Play and imagination are great teachers. And learning doesn't necessarily happen on paper, or on a computer screen. When I asked Robert what was so good about his kit, he said, "It's the energy hook-ups(9), and seeing what you can do with them." 1. 'As a parent' this kind of phrase is used with different nouns/titles. a. As a teacher, I try to understand how my students learn best. b. As a policeman, he tries to be observant. 2. 'I think a lot about my children's education'. This is a good format for other sentences. a. We think a lot about our father's health. b. They think a lot about their safety because they live in Hurricane Valley. c. He thinks a lot about buying land in the future. 3. 'Hands-on' refers to activities that involve touch and manipulation. a. The new children's museum in Spokane is hands-on; the kids can really touch, feel, and play with the displays. b. Babies and toddlers learn most of their lessons in a hands-on way. 4. 'The only way to really +verb..., is to ...' another great format for a sentence. a. The only way to really make money, is to work hard for a long time. b. The only way to really make a point, is to speak intelligently. c. The only way to really understand a culture, is to live in that country. 5. 'Some people are comfortable with academics, and others are not.' In this sentence, the adjective doesnot have to be repeated at the end. a. Some people love chocolate, and others don't. b. Some laws are fair, and others aren't. c. Some people work eight hours a day, and others don't. 6. A 'kit' is usually a set of objects that all fit together or work together for a common purpose. Like Robert's kit, all the parts in the box can be used to build different electrical circuits. a. I bought a kit to build a bird house for the garden. It had wood, nails, glue, and paint. b. My husband always has a tire repair kit with him when he goes biking. 7. A 'booklet' is a small, soft book, similar to a pamphlet but bigger. We usually receive booklets with new appliances for instruction. a. The booklet that came with my new vacuum cleaner is not clear. b. You need to read the instructions that came in the booklet so you know how to put the drawers together. 8. 'Fiddling' comes from the verb 'to fiddle' which means 'to manipulate with your hands', 'to mess about', and 'to experiment physically with something'. Kids are good 'fiddlers'. a. Someone has been fiddling with my alarm clock, and now it doesn't work. b. I wish you wouldn't fiddle with my make-up; it's all untidy now. 9. A 'hook-up' is often used generally for a connection of some kind, especially electrical or metallic. a. Where is the hook-up to the power supply? b. We need the correct hook-up to connect the boat to the truck. Join me on FACEBOOK at Anna Fromacupofenglish. Questions and comments? Would you like Skype lessons? Hoy escuchamos dos canciones distintas con el mismo título: 'How little we know' (Qué poco sabemos).
