Most vertebrate animals on land get around on all fours, but some of us have committed to two-legged locomotion. This episode, we explore the various ways animals have evolved bipedalism and the many benefits that come with it. We'll also take a look at how we identify bipedal animals in the fossil record, and we'll zoom in on the evolutionary story behind Earth history's most successful bipeds. Today, we have such a great opportunity. The world is in disarray because they have forgotten that Kṛṣṇa is Satyam, the supreme truth, and that life becomes simple if we simply follow his instructions and don't try to invent anything new. Just be a devotee. Think of Kṛṣṇa. Worship Kṛṣṇa. Bolo Kṛṣṇa, Bhajo Kṛṣṇa, and teach Kṛṣṇa consciousness to everybody. So, thank you very much for being such dedicated devotees. It's very powerful, and it's good news for Silicon Valley that we're all here today, creating this vortex of spiritual power. So today, all day long, we'll be engaged in devotional activities. Thank goodness nobody can get to us. You always say, "Sorry, I'm busy. I've got to park cars." "Sorry, I'm busy. I've got to wash the floor." "Sorry, I'm busy." Just be busy all day in Kṛṣṇa's service: hearing, chanting, śravaṇaṁ, kīrtanaṁ. Sweepnam, mopanam... Yeah, if you want to make real advancement, sweepnam, mopanam, and go for the restrooms. Go for the parking lot. Pick up the trash, clean everything. And we want to also welcome all the people who come here throughout the day. You're all stalwarts. That's why you're here at Maṅgal Ārti. So you're deputized to be one of the nicest people on Earth today to everyone who comes here. Just be a kind friend. Give them a smile, give them a welcome. Help them see the deities before you see them. Let's extend ourselves to everyone and bring people closer to Kṛṣṇa, which is the mission of the International Society for Kṛṣṇa Consciousness. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

We consider how this series is consistent with and differs from the Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) movies, particularly on the central political and ideological problematics invoked. We further consider the nature and motivations of Wendy and the Lost Boys, Boy Kavalier, and Yutani. US-born Protestant evangelicalism has gone global to an extent of which many of us might be unaware. Soul by Soul: The Evangelical Mission to Spread the Gospel to Muslims (Columbia Global Reports, 2024) tells the story of Americans' colossal mobilization to proclaim Christianity “to the ends of the Earth,” a movement that triumphed in the Global South, challenged the Vatican, then turned east in full force after 9/11 to spread the Gospel among Muslims. When the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq set off a wave of anti-American attacks and made the field too dangerous for US missionaries, thousands of disciples, particularly from Latin America, were mobilized to finish the task. In Soul by Soul, journalist Adriana Carranca follows the pilgrimage of a missionary family from Brazil as they move to Afghanistan. Carranca brings us on a harrowing journey through the underground passages of the global evangelical movement as it clashes with the full force of militant Islamic groups in the Middle East and South Asia, where contemporary religious wars are being fought, soul by soul. BIBLE IN TEN

Saturday, 16 August 2025   Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. Matthew 12:29   “Or how, any, he can enter into the house of the strong and his goods seize, if not first he should bind the strong? And then, his house he will through-seize” (CG).   In the previous verse, Jesus emphatically declared to the Pharisees that if He casts out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon them. Next, He questions them with the words, “Or how, any, he can enter into the house of the strong and his goods through-seize?”   His question contains a new word, diarpazó. It is derived from dia, through, and harpazó, to seize. Thus, a literal, albeit clunky translation would be to through-seize. Some Greek texts use the word harpazó here and then diarpazó later in this verse.   Jesus' question is concerning ability. There is a house owned by a strong man. If someone wants to rob this guy, how is he going to do it? Jesus provides the answer in the next clause, saying, “if not first he should bind the strong.”   If the house of a strong man is to be plundered, the strong man has to first be bound. His strength must be dealt with, or it will be impossible for someone to rob him. Instead, he will get a good pounding and maybe a trip to the hospital. But if he is bound up, Jesus continues with, “And then, his house he will through-seize.”   When that which interferes with one's plans to take an action is removed, the ability to take that action can then go forward. The point of Jesus' words is built upon what He has already said. This is introduced with the word translated as “or.”   His first question in this regard was that if Satan casts out Satan, he divided himself. If so, then his kingdom cannot stand. Thus, the word “or” continues to refer to this concept. Speaking again of Satan, he calls him “the strong.”   Some equate the house with the demon-possessed man. But this is too limited. Satan's house, in this questioning, is his place of rule. Thus, it is the Earth. This is the same as the “house of David” being the scope of David's rule. Satan has already been shown to have authority over the earth (Matthew 4:9).   Therefore, the strong, meaning Satan, must be bound. From there, a person can then thoroughly plunder his house. How did God do this? He sent Jesus, born without sin, into the world. This is why Satan attempted to get Jesus to sin right at the start. But Jesus prevailed over his temptations. Remaining sinless, Jesus has bound Satan's authority.   Therefore, Jesus can now thoroughly plunder his house. One step at a time, this will take place until, at the cross, he is entirely defeated. The sinless death of Jesus is the proverbial final nail in the coffin of Satan's ability to come against Him. In His death, the law is fulfilled. Therefore, the thing that stood against man and which Satan used against man, law, will no longer be an implement to cause saved humanity to fall again.   Life application: The importance of the issue of law versus grace is not to be diminished. Law, a violation of it, is what brought sin into the world. Through sin, man died. That state of sin and death spread to all men. This is recorded by Paul in Romans 5.   In Christ, the issue of law, and thus the issue of the imputation of sin, has been dealt with. This is why those who have come to Christ can adamantly avow that they have been saved. They have moved from a position of “under law” in Adam to a position of “in grace” in Jesus.   It is also why salvation, once it has been granted, is eternal. It is true, we may ignorantly reimpose law on ourselves after being saved, but we are still in Christ. Therefore, sin is not being imputed, even for the blunder of placing oneself under law. However, in our state of salvation, we will receive no rewards for a life lived under law, even if we remain in grace. By our actions, we are excluding the chance to be rewarded for our conduct.   On the other hand, those who never believe the gospel, but continue under law, cannot be saved. Only by rejecting self, accepting Christ's full atonement through His sacrificial death, which is proved by the resurrection, can someone be moved from “under law” to “in grace.”   Once that move takes place, it should be the person's goal and desire to live for God, loving Him, and being obedient to His guidance as outlined under the New Covenant in order to receive rewards. This is not for being saved or continuing to be saved. That was dealt with in Jesus' work. It is for rewards and losses in our state of salvation.   Let us learn the lesson of law and cling to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ always.   Glorious God, how grateful we are for what You have done for us in Christ. The power of Satan was bound in our lives, and we have been plundered from His hand. We are now under a new Master who will continue to forever protect us from the power of the devil. As this is so, help us to stay away from evil and always strive for what is good and pleasing in Your sight. Amen.

To help us explore this bush, we enlisted Archeologist/Anthropologist, Professor John Hoopes. What's an Australopithecus v a Homo? Who's Lucy? Were Neatherthals giants or Judd Hirsh or neither? Were Denisovans giants or Elves or Al Leong or none? Are Humanoid reptilians possible on Earth? Are Paracus skulls a different species? All these questions and SEVEN MILLION YEARS covered.P.S. since the time of this recording, a new australopithecus variant that lived after Lucy has been identified!

This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Sounds like the overlapping songs of birds can speak volumes about the biodiversity in an ecosystem, and now scientists are looking to use the tiny sounds made by earthworms, ants, and voles to study the health of soils.  Also, "depaving parties" of volunteers with sledgehammers are turning paved yards into pollinator havens and green space. That can help reduce climate impacts from extreme heat and flooding. Plus -- a scientist who rappels down cliffs to hand-pollinate endangered plants. A vine that mimics the leaves of nearby species. Rice that crowds out strangers but leaves room for the roots of relatives. The book “The Light Eaters” tackles big questions of plant intelligence, consciousness, and communication. -- Know someone who might be interested in a Living on Earth internship this fall? How long does light last?

When listener Rob from Devon, UK, heard of a newly detected planet light years away, he was struck by the sheer scale the light must travel to reach us here on Earth. It got him wondering: How long does light last? What's the oldest light we've ever observed? And does light ever die? To find out, presenter Anand Jagatia calls on some of the brightest minds in astronomy and physics. Astronomer Matthew Middleton from the University of Southampton describes himself as “a kid in a sweet shop” when it comes to physics, and that enthusiasm comes in handy, because scientists still struggle to define exactly what light is. What we do know is that light comes in many forms, and choosing the right kind can peel back the cosmic curtain, revealing the universe's deepest and darkest secrets. That knowledge will prove vital in Anand's search for the oldest light ever observed. At the European Southern Observatory in Chile, staff astronomer Pascale Hibon gives Anand a behind-the-scenes look at the Very Large Telescope, one of the most advanced optical instruments on Earth, perfectly placed under some of the clearest skies on the planet. Light from the objects Pascale studies has often travelled for billions of years, making her images snapshots of the distant past. In a sense, she's pretty much a time traveller. If light has crossed the vastness of the universe to reach us, it must be unimaginably ancient. But what will become of it in the far future? Could we trap it and preserve it forever? “If we knew what light is, that might be an easier question to answer,” says Miles Padgett at the University of Glasgow, who has spent his career trying to pin it down. As Anand discovers, physics can be more philosophical than you might expect. From redshifted galaxies at the edge of the observable universe to exotic materials that can slow light to walking pace, CrowdScience explores whether we can catch light, how it changes over time, and why truly understanding it remains one of physics' most stubborn challenges. Presenter: Anand Jagatia Producer: Harrison Lewis Editor: Ilan Goodman(Image: An area of deep space with thousands of galaxies in various shapes and sizes on a black background. If aliens landed on Earth and observed how we work, they'd probably be baffled. We spend most of our lives doing this thing called “work,” yet so many people feel unfulfilled, undervalued, and stuck in roles that don't inspire them. It's even baked into our language. Look up synonyms for “employee,” “manager,” or “work” and you'll find words like cog, zookeeper, and drudgery. Something's clearly broken. But the good news? It's starting to change. In today's Leadership Spark, I break down the five major trends reshaping how we define work: the rise of new behaviors driven by tech, generational shifts in values, globalization, increased mobility, and disruptive technologies like AI and automation. We also explore why traditional employee engagement just isn't cutting it anymore, despite massive investment, engagement scores remain low. You'll learn why employee experience is the real path forward. If you want to understand where the future of work is headed and what it takes to lead in it, this one's for you.   ________________ Start your day with the world's top leaders by joining thousands of others at Great Leadership on Substack. There's no way around this descriptor: this episode is Fantastic.  But be-Four The Guys get to The Thing they came to talk about, there are notable Geeks of the Week to mention.   Jay heard about a Hamilton cast member who's been there from day one, and hopes the same will happen to him in this podcast.  Robbie geeks out over a potential Star Wars-Dr. Who crossover (well, sort of - with a cast member, at least.)  And Art - in his own special segment, soon to be known as the Optimist with the Obituaries (they're still workshopping the title)- shares sad news about one of WKRP's finest.   In Jay's Regrettable Segment, ROM the Spaceknight gets special coverage: Robbie has been waiting for this one to get to Earth-1012.  Then they get to the final Stretch, a discussion of the MCU's latest gift to the theater: Fantastic Four, First Steps.  This may be the best FF ever, less Torched by the critics than any of the variants thus far, and The Guys agree.  Good casting overall, balanced story with perhaps some nuances not seen very often in superhero flicks (spoiler: there's a baby), terrific sets, fascinating time setting, useful mid-credit scene, and fun music.   The MCU may not be Invisible much longer.

Recently, using data from the Japanese infrared telescope AKARI,  Dr. Amos Y.A. Chen and his collaborators published a paper in the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia which predicts the approximate positions of two massive Planet 9 candidates. To arrive at their conclusions this team carefully searched the AKARI observations for objects which over the course of months change their positions relative to distant stars and galaxies.   Further  observations are required to determine if either of these move like a Planet 9 or if instead they are some other type of distant astronomical object.

In 1946, a New Orleans bar owner named Owen Brennan opened Brennan's Vieux Carré on Bourbon Street. Fresh out of high school, his sister Ella became his de facto manager there. Just before Owen's untimely death a few years later, plans were in place to move the restaurant to Royal Street, where the Brennan family dynasty truly began. Today, Brennan's Restaurant on Royal Street is grander than ever – all thanks to the loving care of Owen and Ella's nephew, Ralph Brennan. Named one of the 20 most influential restaurant people in the country by Restaurant Business Magazine, Ralph runs some of the city's finest dining destinations. There's Ralph's on the Park, Red Fish Grill, the Napoleon House and Café NOMA, just to name a few. On this week's show, we sit down with Ralph Brennan himself to discuss his life in food. Then, we speak with Braithe Tidwell, the corporate beverage director for the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group. Braithe helped the wine program at Brennan's regain its status on the Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning list. Most recently, Braithe collaborated with Piper Heidsieck to create a bespoke Brennan's champagne. Next, we learn about Brennan's annual tradition of hosting the "Slowest Second Line on Earth," complete with ten terrific turtles and a rapping judge. Finally, we step inside Brennan's kitchen for an unforgettable breakfast. For their poached eggs alone, the restaurant goes through over half a million eggs each year. Executive Chef Ryan Hacker shows us how his team perfectly poaches hundreds of eggs at a time to feed crowds of hungry morning diners. Bishop Robert Barron’s Sermons - Catholic Preaching and Homilies

Friends, the title of my ministry, Word on Fire, came from our Gospel for today. Jesus says to his disciples, “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” This is not the lighting of a cozy campfire. This is closer to, if you want, Sodom and Gomorrah—to fire and brimstone. It is a dangerous and divisive fire. Christ is the light of the world, the divine luminosity—but to the degree that we are still in darkness, we will experience that light as something difficult, off-putting, even torturous.
