In 2018, a peer-reviewed article published in Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology suggested the theory that octopuses could have extraterrestrial origins. As in, they're not regular Earthlings. The 33 scientists who authored the paper say, the octopus could have arrived on Earth, in some form, on board a celestial body – like an asteroid. Most of the scientific community disagreed. Experts said octopuses are alien-like, but there are clues to suggest they experienced a normal, Earth-bound evolution. However…they might hold clues about what alien behavior would look like. Throughout the Cold War, the Pentagon secretly produced fake images, documents, and other materials related to alleged UFO programs, which were leaked through covert placement in public areas, dissemination through the UFO community, and even shown during fake briefings provided to members of the U.S. military. Anchorage, Alaska, isn’t quite the “land of the midnight Sun.” Tonight, there are about five hours between sunset and sunrise. But it is a land of midnight sunlight, because twilight never completely fades. Twilight is the transition between day and night. Earth’s atmosphere scatters sunlight from the dayside to the fringes of the nightside. But when, exactly, does twilight end? When is the sky really dark? As you might expect, astronomers have their own definition. Astronomical twilight begins or ends when the Sun is 18 degrees below the horizon – about twice the width of your fist held at arm’s length. That’s when the sky’s as dark as it’s going to get. Because of the Sun’s motion, astronomical twilight lasts a minimum of about an hour and 10 minutes. But because the Sun usually rises and sets at an angle, twilight can last a good deal longer. During much of June and July, when the days are longest, twilight for much of the northern hemisphere lasts all night. The Sun never drops far below the horizon, so even though it’s out of sight, its light never disappears. So the people of Anchorage need some good blackout curtains to get a dark night’s sleep. If you want a few hours of darkness, head south – someplace like Miami Beach. Today we welcome acclaimed Australian comic book artist Nicola Scott to discuss her journey from Sydney theater and costume design to becoming one of the most celebrated artists in the American comic book industry. With a history in theater and costume design, Nicola started pursuing a comics career in 2001 and by 2006 was the first Australian to become a staple of the U.S. mainstream, establishing herself through stunning work on DC titles including Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Teen Titans, and Earth 2. In 2016, she and writer Greg Rucka relaunched Wonder Woman for DC Rebirth and created the comic series Black Magick, which was published by Image. In a humorous segment on the June 11, 2025, episode of The Clay Edwards Show, I shared a fictional breaking news story about the cartoon character Speedy Gonzales, a Mexican mouse, being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I described how Speedy was apprehended early that morning outside a cheese factory in El Paso, where he was working after his temporary visa expired, allegedly to support a "cheese habit." I recounted how he tried to evade ICE's new “Mouse Unit,” which uses trained cats, by running fast and yelling in broken English, but was quickly caught. I played a clip of a staged interaction where American TV personality Dr. Phil questioned Speedy at the scene, with Speedy claiming to be a “citizen of Earth” and denying false charges of “sex crimes with children,” joking that he thought the cheese was “aged.” I noted that Speedy's cousin, Slowpoke Rodriguez, was also arrested, and both were held in ICE custody pending deportation. I revealed that the anonymous tip leading to Speedy's capture came from Sylvester the Cat, his longtime nemesis, adding that Sylvester got the “last laugh.” I used the story to inject levity, commenting that even famous cartoon characters aren't above deportation laws.
