Join me today for an inspiring conversation with Author Debbie Marini, who is on a mission to help children understand they are never alone. After her son lost his best friend to suicide and her own house burned to the ground twice, she has learned to lean in and trust a higher power, helping children through her new series of books, which I am excited to speak about today. Our conversation I found to be so inspiring and I am thankful to have met Debbie and you will be too! Debbie has combined her background as a mental health advocate with her training and experience connected to Spirituality to reinforce to youth the belief they are never alone. She holds a Masters's Degree in Human Behavioral Psychology, a Reiki Level 2 Certification, NLP Practitioner Certification, and has successfully completed the Mental Health First Aid Trainer Certification for Adults and Youth as well as the Resilience Certification at UPenn. The collaboration of her experience in the mental health arena with her journey surrounding spirituality has culminated in a children's book series dedicated to her granddaughter that introduces God and spirituality in a relatable way. Debbie's mission is to bring to light the awareness that we are all a part of something bigger and never alone.

Patrick also shares his experience working with the NFL during the COVID-19 pandemic and how the team made it safe for local residents to attend the Superbowl events and start to feel more positive about getting on with life. A Mindset Shift We discuss how a big community event can bring local people together and shift people into a more positive mindset. Patrick emphasizes the importance of pulling together to keep your destination top of mind, even when potential visitors aren't able to make it to you right away. Whether or not we're headed into a recession, you can't stop marketing your destination because if you stop, you need an awful lot of runway to get started again — in Patrick's words, “you have to keep humming along.” Stay True to Yourself It is vital to know who you are and understand your authentic story as a destination before you can figure out how to position your story for various different markets. Susan, your host, welcomes Reid Peterson to today's episode.   Reid, the founder of Grief Refuge, provides its community of users with a source of solace when they're in pain and discomfort from grief. The app is a hub that fulfills grievers' emotional needs. Support for people going through the grief journey is imperative for both the griever and their loved ones. When people are facing grief and go without support it ends up hurting more than it helps.   Grief Refuge content is created by Reid, MA. Reid achieved a Masters's Degree in Transpersonal Psychology (Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, 2007) and is certified in Death & Grief Studies by the Center for Loss & Life Transition. After losing his biological father to suicide in 2006 and his stepfather to cancer in 2016, Reid felt a calling to help the grieving find peace and purpose after loss.   Key Takeaways: Reid shares his own grief experience that started when his biological father committed suicide. Susan and Reid talk about the “gut feeling” both have about the death of their loved ones. Reid also lost his stepfather and he shares how he processed this loss. Reid talks about his sensitivity. Reid talks about The Grief Refuge, an app that provides daily grief support for people who have lost a loved one. Grief is not a mental health issue. No one prepares you for losing a loved one; someone has been taken away from you. There is no one way of grieving, everyone uses their own resources to navigate this difficult process. There is magic in the connection that grievers can have with each other. Suicidal ideation is unfortunately common among grievers. When you support someone who is grieving, what you say matters. Reid talks about purpose and how it can change in different moments in one person's life. It is hard to keep your faith when grief is consuming your energy. Reid suggests grievers keep on looking for more resources to help them in their grieving process; don't give up!   Resources Tendrilsofgrief.com Email Susan: susan@tendrilsofgrief.com   Meet Reid Peterson The Grief Refuge app.

Michael R. DeLeon, a successfully acclimated ex-offender who after nearly 8 years of drug addiction and gang involvement, spent 12 years in state prison and halfway houses for a gang-related homicide. But that is NOT where his story ended.  His story will inspire, motivate and challenge you. We all know someone who has been affected by drug abuse or violence. You will definitely want to share Michael's story with everyone. Finding the Purpose for your life is the key ingredient to overcoming trauma and the adverse childhood experiences so many of us endure. Having a relationship with God, who GAVE me that purpose, is why I stand here today. Since Michael's release from prison, he has earned 3 Associates Degrees, a Baccalaureate Degree in Business Management, a minor in Criminal Justice, and a CADC Educational Certificate. Michael is now in the process of obtaining his Masters's Degree in Addictions Counseling at Liberty University as well as pursuing his LCADC. Michael has spoken to over ten million students and young adults as a motivational speaker in many facilities delivering evidence-based student programs around the country. He has presented in centers and schools in all 50 states in America. “For most of my life, since age 11, I was part of the problem. In my own life, I was the problem. After 12 years in prison, I wanted to be the solution—so I dedicated my life to this purpose.” During his riveting interview, Michael discusses how we can help fight the main cause of death and destruction of life in America.  Michael is the founder of Steered Straight, Inc. A non-profit organization formed in 2000 designed with the intention of carrying a prevention message to youth and young adults regarding the extreme dangers of drugs, gang involvement day-to-day, and criminal activity. Michael has spoken to over ten million students and young adults as a motivational speaker in many facilities delivering evidence-based student programs around the country. He has presented in centers and schools in all 50 states in America. Michael speaks and presents to youth, parents, educators, law enforcement, medical professionals, and community groups throughout the country. He presents to in excess of 1.5 million people each year. He created two additional educational arms of Steered Straight: Recovery Army and Faithing Addiction, both of which target specific audiences throughout America to educate and prevent addiction and build and support Recovery. Michael is developing Steered Straight by stressing the importance of young men and women making sound, rational decisions in their day-to-day lives. Michael is an award-winning filmmaker and has directed and produced four documentaries on addiction, focusing on the opiate and heroin epidemic in America, marijuana legalization, and Addiction Recovery. Michael also founded the Project Pride Program while incarcerated in prison. After pitching the idea for this program to then-Commissioner Jack Terhune, he worked to develop the message that consequences can be severe and life-lasting. Project Pride is still in existence at the New Jersey Department of Corrections and is the largest prison outreach program in America.

Quietly profound and deeply moving, we talked about life and business and everything in between. Rolf is a founder of Clearmind Advisors, a global leadership consultancy specializing in helping leaders from around the world lead with clarity, insight, and confidence. Their mission is to transform business best practices by increasing awareness of the human dimension. Rolf's curiosity about the human dimension of leadership developed early. Rolf spent fifteen years leading wilderness expeditions, Outward Bound courses, climbing the great walls of Yosemite, paddling the length of Lake Superior, and leading dog sled expeditions. These adventures provided a virtual laboratory for studying the human capacity for both high and low performance under duress. Rolf has a Masters's Degree in Architecture. Working with interdisciplinary design teams on complex projects, he developed a profound curiosity about what made some project teams come together brilliantly while others failed. Along the way, he was extremely fortunate to discover fundamental principles for how the human mind works - a crucial, almost always overlooked, variable in organizational change and human performance.  In 1999, he founded ClearMind Advisors, He is a trusted mentor to leaders from renowned medical institutions, space research labs, telecom and power companies, and global name brands in the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
