If you've ever thought, “I'm not a leader, I just have 47 people depending on me and zero time to pee” — this one's for you. In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain on what really gets in the way of women leading at work, at home, and in our own lives. Spoiler: it's not your title, your org chart, or your calendar. It's the invisible beliefs, the perfectionism, the “I'll just do it myself,” and the “if I say no everything will fall apart” stories running in the background. Executive coach, author, and Harvard Business Review podcast host Muriel Wilkins joins Nicole to unpack the seven hidden leadership blockers that quietly cap our potential — especially for women who've been praised their whole lives for doing it all, doing it perfectly, and never dropping a ball. Together, they dig into how to actually lead yourself first, rewrite old scripts like “I can't make a mistake” and “I don't belong here,” and create a version of leadership that doesn't require burnout, over-functioning, or pretending to be someone you're not. Because leadership isn't just about managing people. It's about managing you — your beliefs, your boundaries, and your response when things go sideways. We explore: Why leadership isn't a title, it's how you show up in every area of your life The 7 hidden leadership blockers that keep high-achieving women stuck and exhausted How “I need to be involved” and “I can't say no” destroy your capacity and your team's growth The quiet cost of perfectionism and the belief “I can't make a mistake” The difference between being a leader and actually leading (yes, there's a big one) Why real confidence isn't knowing you'll get it right — it's trusting you can handle whatever happens Because at the end of the day, leadership isn't about having all the answers — it's about having the inner steadiness to face whatever comes next without abandoning yourself in the process. Sarah Amos says the best way to describe her childhood is as a “nepo-baby fever dream.” She grew up in a pink mansion in Hawaii where celebrities often dropped by, and the fridge was always stocked with cookie dough made from her father's famous recipe. Wally Amos founded Famous Amos cookies in 1975, but by the time Sarah was in middle school, he had sold the company and their house was in foreclosure. As Sarah grew up, her father never stopped chasing the success he'd once had with Famous Amos, a pursuit that pushed them apart. The physical signs that prove you're orgasming—even when there's no "explosive release" moment, and why your experience might look nothing like what you've been told to expect. That partner who goes full jackhammer the entire time: the exact conversation framework to redirect them without crushing their ego—and why most people need those fast strokes eventually, just not the whole damn time. A listener whose new partner believes orgasms damage your mental health and relationships—what this anti-climax philosophy gets right about connection, and what the science actually says about orgasms strengthening your bond. The guilt trap of needing fantasy to finish during oral: why your imagination became your default pathway to orgasm, and the five-senses technique that retrains your brain to stay present with your partner instead. How to find your G-area (because it's not a "spot"): the exact finger motion, positions, and toy shapes that actually work—and why this spongy tissue is just your internal clitoris showing up to the party. Plus: what squirting really is, why dry orgasms happen, and the neural pathway secret that means you can learn to orgasm in completely different ways than you do now. Daniel Brook and Brandy Schillace trace the life and legacy of Magnus Hirschfeld, the so-called "Einstein of Sex," from his pioneering Institute for Sexual Science to the Nazis parading his severed likeness at the 1933 book burning. They dig into the longer prehistory of Weimar queer politics and antisemitism, discussing how obsessions with masculinity and "degeneracy" turned sexuality into a political weapon. Plus: Donald Trump's astonishing pardon of convicted Honduran ex-president Juan Orlando Hernández, and a spiel on what Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation actually says about her district. Popular GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Zepbound aren’t just transforming weight loss. They’re also changing our intimate lives in surprising ways. In today’s show, we’re diving into results from a new national study finding that a majority of people taking one of these medications reported a change in their sex and dating lives, for better or for worse. My guest is Dr. Amanda Gesselman a research scientist and head of the VIBES research team at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. Digital intimacy is a major focus of her research, including how people use tools like camsites, AI companions, dating apps, and social media to navigate connection and desire. Some of the specific topics we explore in this episode include: What specific changes are people noticing in their dating lives as a result of taking one of these drugs? Why does weight loss seem to be benefiting men more than women when it comes to dating? How do GLP-1 medications affect sexual health and function? And is it different for men and women? Are people taking GLP-1 medications worried about social judgement? To learn more, you can read a brief report about the study here. Got a sex question? The CIA infamously experimented with LSD, but few know that the same MKULTRA program involved sub-projects that included experiments with caffeine, nicotine, and marijuana. Since 2020, caffeine consumption and nicotine vaping has increased dramatically in the United States, alongside approximately 3 solid years of Yale University-CIA behavioral nudging for pharmaceutical company products, just like the ones that supplied the CIA with their abundant LSD. The CIA Operation Midnight Climax, which involved drugs and sex, is another infamous experiment in depravity and mind control. Combining the two experiments involving stimulants and sex, and the associated trauma and tensions induced alongside in the projects, paints a clear picture of our society today. A country addicted to caffeine, nicotine, marijuana, and prescription drugs; a country fed constant propaganda about war, disease, terrorism, politics, social injustice, etc.; a society that is spied on through cell phones, televisions, and computers, and increasing sexually perverted entertainment; a country in which every home has been turned into a 225 Chestnut Street. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Sarah is suddenly a new woman who hates when it gets dark early, is not really into Halloween, and is crying over Christmas songs. Sounds like someone is happy and in love. So much so that we get an impromptu, spoken word version of Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. We hear about an inicident in the 1980s when two boys were supposedly influenced by the music of Judas Priest and persuaded to die by suicide. We hear how it ended, and why heavy metal music is an easy target. Susie reveals the data on IQs over the 20th and 21st centuries, and we learn why there was a sudden decrease in intelligence and what we can do about it. Susie describes an interview with a Holocaust guard who didn't harm any Auschwitz prisoners, but seems disconnected to his own involvement, and why it's more common than you'd think. We find out what it's like to be a pet influencer and why all the nonsense is basically the same as people influencers.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Go to https://thrivecausemetics.com/BRAINCANDY for an exclusive offer of 20% off your first order!Save 20% Off Honeylove by going to https://www.honeylove.com/BRAINCANDY #honeylovepodVisit https://www.carawayhome.com/BRAINCANDY10 to take advantage of this limited-time offer for up to 25% off your next purchase.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
We love to talk about authenticity at work… right up until someone actually shows up as their full, messy, human self and makes everyone clutch their pearls. In this episode, we unpack what it really means to be yourself at work with Claude Silver — the world's first Chief Heart Officer at VaynerX and author of Be Yourself at Work: The Groundbreaking Power of Showing Up, Standing Out, and Leading from the Heart. We get into the difference between authentic presence vs. executive presence, why “that's just who I am” is usually “fear” in a cute outfit, and how to stop armoring up at work without turning every meeting into group therapy. We talk about perfectionism, people-pleasing, power dynamics, calling people in (instead of just calling them out), and what it actually costs you and your company when you leave the real you at home. If you've ever wondered how to bring your heart into a workplace that's still obsessed with your hustle, or how to belong without shrinking or pretending, this conversation is your permission slip to stop faking it and start leading from the heart. We Explore: What authenticity at work really means (and why it's not “I say whatever I want, whenever I want”) The difference between confidence and authenticity – and why you need both How Claude defines authentic presence and why “executive presence” is starting to feel outdated Perfectionism as a confidence derailer and how it quietly kills trust, connection, and creativity How to share your real life (kids, chaos, hard mornings) at work without oversharing or dumping Navigating power dynamics when a client, boss, or leader says something that goes against your values How to find “your people” at work Gen Z and Gen Alpha aren't being “difficult” — they're just done with workplaces that value performance over personhood. They expect companies to evolve, not the other way around. If leaders want to keep and motivate this generation, they need to ditch command-and-control and lead with humanity. Authenticity isn't a bonus anymore — it's the baseline. Thank you to our sponsors! How well do we understand our relationship to sex? According to Oliver Davis and Tim Dean, authors of the new book Hatred of Sex (University of Nebraska Press, 2022), we tend to overlook the “unpleasurable pleasures” that are integral to sex. Sex undoes us, destabilizes us, takes us out of ourselves. Many of our 21st century cultural products—Queer Theory, traumatology, intersectional studies—secretly “hate” sex for these very reasons and build such hatred into their ideas. In our interview, Davis and Dean explain why a full understanding and experience of sex require our reckoning with these truths, and they offer conceptual tools for undertaking such a reckoning. This interview is a must-listen for anyone curious about the unspoken dimensions of sex. Oliver Davis is a professor of French studies at the University of Warwick. He is the author of Jacques Rancière and editor of Rancière Now. Tim Dean is James M. Benson Professor in English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of Unlimited Intimacy: Reflections on the Subculture of Barebacking and Beyond Sexuality. Eugenio Duarte, Ph.D. is a psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist practicing in Miami. He treats individuals and couples, with specialties in gender and sexuality, eating and body image problems, and relationship issues. He is a graduate and faculty of William Alanson White Institute in Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis, and Psychology in New York City and former chair of their LGBTQ Study Group; and faculty at Florida Psychoanalytic Institute in Miami. He is also a contributing author to the book Introduction to Contemporary Psychoanalysis: Defining Terms and Building Bridges (2018, Routledge) and has published on issues of gender, sexuality, and sexual abuse. You have no idea what the word raunchy means until you meet my step-mom. Even I previously made the mistake of seeing her for an innocent suburban wife to my dad, but all it took was one entire day for her to reveal to me things of which only a man can know and handle. My only prayer is for my dad to never find out.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/shango-s-zone--3005964/support.

Producent: Hannah Engberg, Tredje Statsmakten MediaSlutmix: Fredrik Nilsson, Tredje Statsmakten MediaExekutiv producent: Jenny Gustafsson, Sveriges Radio

In 2012, NYPD officer Gilberto Valle's wife made a horrifying discovery: thousands of online chats where her husband discussed kidnapping, torturing, cooking, and eating women...including her.Valle was a member of Dark Fetish Net, a website for extreme sexual fantasies, where he shared detailed plans about cannibalizing real people he knew. The FBI arrested Valle and charged him with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The evidence was disturbing: graphic conversations about cooking women alive, over 100 unauthorized police database searches on potential victims, Google searches for "how to make chloroform," and real-world meetings with his targets. But here's the twist: Valle never kidnapped anyone. Never attempted to. Never took any concrete steps beyond online conversations and Google searches. Valle claimed it was all fantasy role-play. Prosecutors argued it was a genuine conspiracy. After a twelve-day trial featuring gruesome evidence and disturbing testimony, the jury convicted him. Valle faced life in federal prison...This case exploded into a national debate about thoughtcrime, free speech, and the limits of conspiracy law. Can you be imprisoned for disturbing fantasies? Where's the line between fantasy and criminal intent? Should online role-play be prosecutable as conspiracy?Join Robin as she breaks it down. ---------------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Gilberto Valle, Cannibal Cop, NYPD, conspiracy to kidnap, Dark Fetish Net, true crime podcast, criminal conspiracy, First Amendment, free speech, constitutional law, federal crime, wrongful conviction, jury verdict, acquittal, Judge Paul Gardephe, thoughtcrime, police corruption, database abuse, New York crime, federal prison, legal podcast, court case analysis, civil liberties, true crime 2024, criminal justice, sexual fetish, cannibalism, vorarephilia, internet crime, cyber crime, FBI investigation, federal trial, appeals court, Second Circuit, true threats, protected speech, actus reus, overt act, criminal intent, fantasy defenseBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-a-true-crime-podcast--4433638/support.Website: http://www.wesawthedevil.comPatreon: http://www.patreon.com/wesawthedevilDiscord: https://discord.gg/X2qYXdB4Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/WeSawtheDevilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/wesawthedevilpodcast.

When Nava Kavelin (host of Podcrushed) lost weight at 16, the shift in how the world treated her was immediate and jarring. She went from being invisible to having 10 boys aggressively pursuing her. She joins Nicole to unpack the complicated resentment of suddenly becoming "visible" to people who previously looked right through you. They get into why reciprocity is the bare minimum for a good relationship, the misery of dating someone long-term who won't commit, and how soap operas like Passions warped their brains into thinking it's okay to chase people who don't like you. Nava also shares the time she downplayed her Baha'i faith for a Southern Baptist boy who turned out to only be interested in converting her.Plus, the shocking research she uncovered at the UN about how media impacts girls of color - they are sexualized as young as 3 years old, and unchecked access to porn is normalizing violence for teenagers.Meanwhile, Nicole attempts to connect with the youths, and recounts the wild, slightly racist routine she saw at Criss Angel's Las Vegas show.Heads up: This episode contains spoilers to Netflix's You.Check out Nava's new book, Crushmore at simonandschuster.com/books/Crushmore/Penn-Badgley/9781668077993Watch this episode on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@WhyWontYouDateMePodcastSupport this podcast and get discounts by checking out our sponsor:Squarespace: Head to squarespace.com/DATEME to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code DATEME.Follow:All Links: linktr.ee/whywontyoudatemeTour Dates: linktr.ee/nicolebyerwastakenYouTube: @WhyWontYouDateMePodcastTikTok: @whywontyoudatemepod Instagram: @nicolebyerX: @nicolebyerNicole's book, #VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE: indiebound.org/book/9781524850746This is a Headgum podcast. How do you make a non-monogamous relationship work? In today’s show, we're diving into a brand-new study that set out to map the most common and effective relationship practices for consensually non-monogamous (CNM) people. We're going to discuss the key strategies that help people maintain multiple partners with intention, stability, and harmony. I am joined once again by Dr. Justin Mogilski, an associate professor of psychology at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, where he teaches courses on human sexuality, the psychology of marriage, and evolutionary psychology. Some of the specific topics we explore in this episode include: What is the Multiple Relationships Maintenance Scale, and what can it tell us about how CNM relationships work? How do people in CNM relationships navigate things like jealousy, resource distribution, and hierarchy? What are people in the most successful CNM relationships doing? What can monogamous couples learn from how CNM people structure their relationships? You can click this link to read the full study discussed in this episode. Got a sex question? Sarah is trying to talk Susie into loving winter sports, and it ain't working. In fact, she's decided Shaun White is on our list of people we have bad vibes about. We hear why Sarah thinks she'd be great at ice skating. We learn why breakfast foods are becoming more expensive, Florida is out of the orange juice biz, and Susie doesn't know what she's going to eat now. We find out why China is causing a bizarre boom in saxophone players, and Sarah has a theory about it. We discuss sports betting, why it's a problem, and how apparently you can be a "professional slot machine player."
