There are few others with as much experience covering the Supreme Court, Department of Justice, and Homeland Security than Pete Williams. He served as an NBC News Correspondent in Washington, DC for 29 years, and last year was named the inaugural Journalist in Residence at John Carroll University. The late Tim Russert, longtime host of NBC's Meet the Press and namesake of John Carroll University's Russert Department of Communication, inspired Williams to engage with John Carroll.rnrnBefore joining NBC News, Williams was an aide in the US Senate and House of Representatives. In 1986 he joined the staff of then-Congressman Dick Cheney as press secretary and legislative assistant. In 1989, when Cheney became Secretary of Defense, Williams was confirmed by the Senate as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs.

The story of how America became the kind of place where a pair of billionaires can be put in charge of slashing government spending, the truth about Donald Trump's tariff agenda, and how Senate Republicans are faring against his pressure campaign to give up their constitutional duty of advice and consent
In her inspiring memoir, the first Black woman to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States chronicles her extraordinary life story. With this unflinching account, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson traces her family's ascent from segregation to her confirmation on America's highest court within the span of one generation.rnrnNamed "Ketanji Onyika," meaning "Lovely One," based on a suggestion from her aunt, a Peace Corps worker stationed in West Africa, Justice Jackson learned from her educator parents to take pride in her heritage since birth. She describes her resolve as a young girl to honor this legacy and realize her dreams: from hearing stories of her grandparents and parents breaking barriers in the segregated South, to honing her voice in high school as an oratory champion and student body president, to graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, where she performed in musical theater and improv and participated in pivotal student organizations.rnrnHere, Justice Jackson pulls back the curtain, marrying the public record of her life with what is less known. She reveals what it takes to advance in the legal profession when most people in power don't look like you, and to reconcile a demanding career with the joys and sacrifices of marriage and motherhood.rnrnThe conversation is led by Michel Martin, Host of NPR's Morning Edition.
Judge Thomas G. Moukawsher is a retired Connecticut complex litigation judge and former lawyer, legislator and lobbyist. He is the author of “The Common Flaw: Needless Complexity in the Courts and 50 Ways to Reduce It. It is critical that the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) have a strong Code of Ethics with enforcement penalties. Recent SCOTUS decisions, especially the absolute immunity, have made it more confusing and difficult to prosecute a corrupt US President. For decades the US has been a beacon for justice and democracy; however, with an attack on our Rule of Law and democratic institutions many nations are alarmed. The US should strongly support the UN's International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to maintain our moral authority internationally. The US Constitution and other legal mechanisms played a critical role in developing the United Nations Charter in 1945 and the Universal Declaration for Human Rights in 1948

Bible Seeds: Making Political Arguments From God's Word - The month of June has become the time of year when the Supreme Court Of The United States, ( SCOTUS ) releases their judgments about important issues concerning the laws of the land and how they fit in with what was written by the founders of the United States. The first command was personal, just for Adam and Eve. The next command that God gave to his people in the “New World” after the flood, is found atGenesis Chapter 9: verse 5. “If anyone takes human life, he will be punished. I will punish any animal that takes human life with death. Man was made by God, so whoever murders a man will himself be killed by his fellow man.” This was not a personal command, but a command from God to all His creation! When we think it nothing to take God's commands and turn them into political arguments that have to be voted on, we make a mockery of God's judgments and His will! So we argue to vote on “The Death Penalty”, and whether or not God made more than two genders.

In this episode of the National Crawford Roundtable we delve into the significance of Roe vs. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court of the United States. Why are some Christians against this decision? Why do some Christians support the Democrat party which supports abortion, even up to birth? What about the Liberals' violent response after the Roe decision? Racial slurs and death threats have been made against Justice Clarence Thomas. There have been attempts to intimidate, kidnap, and murder the Conservative Supreme Court Justices. Why has AG Merrick Garland refused to prosecute the illegal protestors who were outside of the Conservative Justice's homes? Democrats are falsely claiming that Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney-Barrett lied during their confirmation hearings--is that true? Should doctors, and women in pro-life states where abortion is illegal be prosecuted?

The Supreme Court Of The United States had a document leaked that explained Roe Vs. Wade will be overturned once it comes time to vote. Does that mean abortion will be outlawed immediately? Is abortion abolished, or should we keep fighting? Pastor/Apologist Jeff Durbin answered these great questions in today's episode.
The gossip rag of Washington DC (Politico... we know well in VA 05) publishes a scan of a first draft that was written in early February of a decision that has not been announced yet to a case that was before the Supreme Court in December... why is it news? One word: abortion. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Video Explaining Ethics and the Covenant of Good Faith & Fair Dealing https://zalma.com/blog On rare occasions, an insured will act unethically in his, her or its relations with an insurer. When they do, if discovered by the insurer or its claims person, the right to indemnity may be lost. As you read about the decision from the United States Supreme Court below consider how the insured acted unethically to the insurer and why the Supreme Court decided to deprive the insured of his right to indemnity. Although hoary with age this case still states the law of the United States with regard to unethical and fraudulent conduct by an insured and the insured's obligation to appear for and testify honestly at an examination under oath. The full text of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Claflin & Others v. Commonwealth Insurance Company.; Same v. Western Assurance Company.; Same v. Franklin Insurance Company, Supreme Court Of The United States 110 U.S. 81; 3 S. Ct. 507; 28 L. Ed. 76; 1884 U.S. LEXIS 1661 Argued and submitted October 16, December 17, 1883. January 14, 1884, dealing with an unethical insured is in Appendix 1. The decision resulted after a man named Murphy, acting as the insured, lied at an Examination Under Oath because he was concerned others might learn of information that could hurt him with regard to his relationship to his employer and a lender. The lie was a breach of Murphy's ethical obligation to the insurer and he was deprived of indemnity because what he did was fraud. © 2021 – Barry Zalma Barry Zalma, Esq., CFE, now limits his practice to service as an insurance consultant specializing in insurance coverage, insurance claims handling, insurance bad faith and insurance fraud almost equally for insurers and policyholders. In this episode Ben reads Chief Justice Marshall's opinion in Marbury v. Madison. This case founded the concept of Judicial Review integral to our Separation of Powers; a quote from Marshall is written in stone in the Supreme Court today: "It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." Struggling to maintain legitimacy for the new Court (its first Chief Justice, John Jay, had already stated the Court lacked "energy, weight, and dignity"), Marshall, Past Grand Master of Virginia, cemented the ideal of Judicial Review almost by accident, maneuvering his opinion through a political minefield, to avoid an otherwise irreconcilable rift with the Executive. It is ironic that such expedience emerged so vital a tenet as the Separation of Powers.Marbury had come to the Court to compel the new Secretary of State, James Madison, to deliver his commission papers, for a Judgeship John Adams had granted him. After losing the election in 1800, Adams had appointed a slew of judges before Jefferson took office (the so-called "midnight judges"). Once in office, Jefferson appointed Madison Secretary of State and commanded him not to deliver any commissions to Adams' men. Marbury came to the Supreme Court for redress, not necessarily because of any legitimacy the fledgling Court was seen to possess , but because, before becoming its Chief Justice (appointed by Jefferson), John Marshall was Adams' Secretary of State to whom the duty of delivering the commission papers had properly devolved....Marshall's opinion is legendary - not only because of its emergence of Judicial Review, but, perhaps more importantly (though overlooked modernly) because he saved the Court in a political dodge.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/rockymountainmason)

With the Bark Off: Conversations from the LBJ Presidential Library
President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court in January 2017. In this episode, Justice Gorsuch talks to us about his recent book, "A Republic, If You Can Keep It," in which he reflects on the dramatic changes in his life after his nomination; his experience on the high court since his appointment and the judicial principles of originalism and textualism that guide him; and why, despite all of our divisions, he has enduring faith in the American people. The conversation took place on Sept. 19, 2019, a week after the book's publication, at the LBJ Presidential Library as part of the Tom Johnson Lecture series.

Anna Salvatore is a high school student from New Jersey who loves the New York Yankees and the U.S. Supreme Court. Her interest in the Supreme Court, which started during a boring study hall, led her to start a blog called High School SCOTUS that has become so popular that Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch’s clerk saw it and invited her to tour the Supreme Court building.

20 August 2018 - Will is off today due to a family emergency and our expected interview has been rescheduled so it's just me and I thought I would try to get a jump start on our coming Puerto Rico interview show. In trying to understand what is going on with the economy and, therefore, the post-Maria recovery in Puerto Rico, I kept tripping over one thing again and again, a group of SCOTUS rulings collectively called the Insular Cases. I decided to get into it and, as it turns out, there's a reason almost everything in PR funnels back to this one point. These Insular Cases are, in no small part, why PR is struggling so much today. Along the way I discovered a couple of interesting stories and one of them was wonderful. I'll give you a little on Isabel Gonzáles now and hope to track someone down who can tell us more about her life. Isabel was the Rosa Parks of her time and she contributed greatly to the granting of full US citizenship to all Puerto Ricans. Obviously, it should be the right of PR to decide on becoming a state or becoming fully sovereign but in the meantime, the people should have all the benefits afforded all US citizens, which is still not the case. Anyway, that's all for another day. Many Carrots! - Arliss
