Dana and Tom with returning guest, Peterson W. Hill (Co-Host of the War Starts at Midnight podcast), and new guest, Kristin Battestella (Critic for In Session Film, Search Magazine, and Keith Loves Movies) discuss the epic Best Picture Winner Ben-Hur (1959) for its 65th anniversary: directed by William Wyler, written by Karl Tunberg, music by Miklos Rozsa, starring Charleton Heston, Jack Hawkins, Haya Harareet, and Stephen Boyd.Plot Summary: In an ancient world, nobleman Judah Ben-Hur is betrayed by his friend Messala, a Roman officer, and is cast into slavery. This week, the boys discuss Stephen Spielberg's AI: Artificial Intelligence, not to be confused with A1: The Steak Sauce. When Stanley Kubrick handed over the film, did 10-year-old John know he'd never ever be able to trust this film? Just kidding. He went in with an open mind. As did Dave, who pulled a Roger Ebert: hated it the first time he watched it but loved it this time around! Where did Jeff land? I wonder if he liked it better than he likes subway poetry. This week, after John briefly discusses "Goodrich", the new Michael Keaton picture written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, the boys take on another Hitchcock classic to highlight the film year 1959. Chosen by our random year generator, 1959 was a doozy for world and civil news, making a mistaken identity spy thriller the perfect film to highlight. You'll have to listen to see if the boys think this film sits on the Mount Rushmore (get it?) of Hitchcock's classics. Our phone number is 646-484-9298. The random year generator spun 1974, so the boys head to 1937 L.A. to discuss the Roman Polanski, Robert Towne, Bob Evans, Jack Nicholson, and Faye Dunaway classic “Chinatown”. Often cited as one of the best movies with one of the best scripts in Hollywood history, plenty has been said about this film. Still, cinematographer Dave had never seen it, John went to fancy film school, and Jeff goes deep into the context of the film year, highlighting top-grossing films, awards, and what the heck was going on in the world. Is it coincidental that Nixon's public demise and unequivocal exoneration came the year Chinatown cites bureaucratic corruption??? Our phone number is 646-484-9298. Two of the three dive into this high drama from the early 2000's. Jeff is away but somehow still appears in the episode and doesn't sound the least bit like he's broadcasting from a phone in a toilet cubicle in Times Square (Don't try and find them, they don't exist) thanks to our AI audio algorithm knowing what he sounds like and his volume level. We discuss acting performances, daring editing choices and the cinematography of the film, and have a lengthy extra discussion about how streaming "TV show" budgets are out of control. 00:00:00 - Intro 00:06:37 - Mini Review The Outrun 00:10:10 - Gripes 00:18:09 - 2003 Year in Review 00:32:02 - Films of 2003: 21 Grams 01:10:27 - What You Been Watching? 01:16:07 - Next Episode Additional Cast/Crew: Alejandro G. After Jeff gives his mini-review of “Saturday Night”, the Jason Reitman film about the making of the first episode of “Saturday Night Live”, the boys discuss the Ernst Lubitsch film, adapted from the 1936/1937 play Hungarian Perfumerie, which also inspired the musical She Loves Me and the film “You've Got Mail”. This week, the boys reviewed the film year 2022, in which we saw over 50 films and discussed them in our feed. We feature “Decision To Leave,” Park Chan-wook's incredibly filmed Korean film, which is considered one of the best international films of the year. For our 250th episode this week, the boys headed to Peking to discuss the Bernardo Bertolucci masterpiece ‘The Last Emperor.' The random year generator spun 1987, and we set up the film year, noted some world events, and then discussed how great it is to no longer have fantastic films set in Chinese spoken in English. The boys get romantic in 1955 NYC, where a simple middle-aged 34-year-old butcher named Marty caves to societal pressures and calls up a lady. We discuss! The random year generator spun in 1955, and we decided to delve into Paddy Chayefsky's pen when he wrote “Marty”, the Oscar and Palme D'Or-winning 90-minute slice of dramatic life film starring with Ernest Borgnine in his Academy Award-winning performance. The boys head back to 1945 England, where not much was happening (just kidding), to watch David Lean's 'Brief Encounter' as part of our Random Year Generator series. David Lean's first three films, including this one, were all Noël Coward adaptations! Didn't expect that from the guy who gave us 'Lawrence of Arabia' and 'The Bridge on the River Kwai'. The boys head to 1995 to discuss ‘Leaving Las Vegas', Nicolas Cage's Oscar-winning role, and whether or not there can be such a thing as too much jazz scatting in a film score. We set the scene, give you some context of world and film news from 1995, and sink our teeth into a productive conversation about this emotional film about an alcoholic (Cage) and his prostitute friend, Elizabeth Shue. This week on the pod, Dave gives a brief, spoiler-free recommendation of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine' before the boys take a trip back to 2018 to discuss David Robert Mitchell's ‘Under the Silver Lake'. The random year generator spun 2018, and the boys didn't want to discuss the big money-makers of the year. Screw them. This week, the boys head up the Cahulawassee River to discuss ‘Deliverance': Films of 1972. Our random year generator spun a year we've previously crossed to discuss ‘The Godfather' and ‘A Clockwork Orange,' and the three of us had never seen it before! Maybe it's people's reaction when you say, “I'm going to watch ‘Deliverance,' want to come over?” While we're a joke-flinging, arrow-shooting, beer-drinking podcast, we promise to give a thoughtful and insightful reflection of ‘Deliverance' that other podcasts can't deliver! The boys grab a beer and head to Shinbone, the fictional town in a western US territory in the old West, to discuss ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance': Films of 1962. The newest edition to our “Random Year Generator” was tons of fun to discuss, making jabs at John Ford's notoriously fiery antics, John Wayne and Jimmy Stewarts contrasting acting styles, Lee Marvin's screen presence, and how there were that many steaks in the old west- how were any cows left! This week, Jeff and Dave discuss the Denzel Washington cult neo-classic ‘Fallen': Films of 1998 as part of our “Random Year Generator” series. I already hate myself for saying “neo-classic”. But it is… it's been almost 30 years! And it's a cult classic because it's not “Se7en” or something, but it's so fun. Dave says it's a perfect movie. A perfect movie!! Wow, Dave. Since we are a drinking podcast, we get the drinks flowing with a few gripes about society, showing up to the theater on time, and the new ‘Star Wars: Acolyte'. This week Jeff and Dave discuss ‘High Noon' in our “Films of 1952” segment, part of our random year generator series! Having never seen this Stanley Kramer/Fred Zinnemann/Carl Foreman CLASSIC, we figured it was time to regain our credibility by watching one of American history's most inspiring westerns- and films. Even though Dave is Australian. He's from the Outback and waved at Queen Elizabeth II once, and she was coronated in 1952, so I suppose he has a specific niche expertise. Distant Origin (VOY S3 E23) was recommended by Toledo, who says:"1. The theme of "people discovering that their past is different, interesting, and complicated" is a favorite of mine2. The idea of humans finding, basically, cousins in space is really cool (and raises so many unknown questions, like "how did they get there?")3. It's one ST episode that deals with issues of religion/mythology, and shows how those are used to structure power and identity in complicated ways (as well as how folks moving to change ingrained narratives run afoul not JUST of power, but of identities)4. I recently watched the 1968 Planet of the Apes and was struck by the parallels to Distant Origin: conflicts over "doctrine," over personhood and rights, over history; but Chakotay is a much better person than Charleton Heston's character.5. It's always fun when Starfleet runs into super-powerful alien races6. For an episode that's a parable paralleling "intelligent design" vs. evolution conversations, it misunderstands evolution HILARIOUSLY. And I think that's important: you can make significant points without being accurate in every respect. (In this sense, it's like "Darmok," where the linguistics make NO sense but the emotions do.)7. DINOSAURS."Distant Origin first aired on April 30, 1997, written by Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky, and directed by David LivingstonThe Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com | Bluesky | Instagram
⏳⏳⏳ Part 2 of Paul and Stephen's chat with Academy Award winning actor, writer, and author Tom Hanks. Why are time travel fantasies perfect escapes and where does Tom dream of going? What's the logic of time travel and what would be better: going back to the past or going forward into the future? Tom shares cautionary food for thought from Thornton Wilder and Charleton Heston, and lessons gleaned from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes. Also, what are the rules of infidelity in time-travel and has there ever been a real “golden age”? Tom explains what it is to be a “presentist”, why he's a bit of a skeptic, and the guys chew on whether or not human nature has changed over time. Paul Giamatti is an award-winning actor and producer. Stephen Asma is a professor and author specializing in the philosophy of science, religion, and art. Tom Hanks is a 2-time Academy Award winning actor, writer and author. His novel The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece is a New York Times Best Seller. Dana and Tom discuss the crime noir thriller, Touch of Evil (1958): written and directed by Orson Welles, music by Henry Mancini, starring Charleton Heston, Orson Welles, Janet Leigh, Marlene Dietrich, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.Plot Summary: In "Touch of Evil," director Orson Welles crafts a gripping, noir-infused masterpiece that immerses the audience in a world of corruption, betrayal, and moral ambiguity. Set in a seedy border town on the U.S.-Mexico border, a car bomb explosion on the American side of the border sets off a chain of events that exposes the underbelly of law enforcement and political power. At the center of the narrative is the enigmatic and morally compromised police captain Hank Quinlan, played with remarkable depth by Orson Welles himself. Quinlan is a brilliant detective known for his unorthodox methods, but his obsession with bringing criminals to justice has led him down a dark path of manipulation and deceit. He's a character who personifies the blurred lines between good and evil, justice and corruption. Opposing Quinlan is the charismatic and determined Mexican narcotics officer, Mike Vargas, portrayed by the charismatic Charlton Heston. Vargas is determined to solve the bombing case, and is willing to confront the pervasive corruption that infects both sides of the border. As the investigation unfolds, "Touch of Evil" delves into themes of racial tension, prejudice, and the abuse of power, all set against a backdrop of gritty urban decay. The film's supporting cast, including Janet Leigh as Vargas's wife, Susan, and Marlene Dietrich as a mysterious fortune-telling gypsy, adds depth to the story and further complicates the moral landscape."Touch of Evil" is a cinematic tour de force that continues to be celebrated for its complexity, social commentary, and innovative filmmaking techniques. It's a film that leaves a lasting impression by challenging viewers to question their own notions of justice and morality in a world where darkness lurks just beneath the surface. Orson Welles' "Touch of Evil" is a timeless classic that remains a must-see for cinephiles and lovers of thought-provoking cinema. You can now follow us on Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok (@gmoatpodcast) or find our Facebook page at Greatest Movie of All-Time Podcast. For more on the episode, go to: https://www.ronnyduncanstudios.com/post/touch-of-evil-1958For the entire rankings list so far, go to:Full Graded List - Greatest Movies of All-Time Ronny Duncan Studios

Episode 35: BEN-HUR We are back with another William Wyler picture. This is our second of the three Best Picture winners directed by Wyler. Perhaps his most famous production, the 1959 Biblical epic Ben-Hur features Charleton Heston as the title character. Based on Lew Wallace's 1880 novel, Ben-Hur cleaned up with 11 Oscars (TM) including Best Picture. How well does it hold up? Listen along as Bonnie and Dennis discuss. Perhaps surprisingly, it ranks at number 35 on our Best Picture Countdown.* Spoiler Alert: We talk about the movie in its entirety, so if you haven't yet seen it, check it out. Or not. That ball is in your court. *What is this list? We explain it in more detail in our Trailer and its Description, but as a high-level answer: we aggregated several different lists that rank the ninety-four winners of the Best Picture Academy Award in a rough attempt to get a consensus. It is not intended to be rigorous or definitive. It's just a framework to guide our journey through cinema history.
Disassociated while lost in the hallucinogenic haze and violence of Nicholas Cage's 2018 flick "Mandy," Jay returns to Earth bitter, frustrated and out for vengeance himself. In turn, Mike giggles at Jay's pain like the title character at an exposed cult-leader's member. The guys then relay their bottom five freak-outs, a controversial list of filmic experimentation and intense over-emoting that includes Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, and... Charleton Heston?
Assistant Coach Tim Geving joins the Bench for his scheduled game after pinch hitting a few weeks ago. In this Walling-hosted game we learned that Dan's "spenning [sic] isn't good" after a day of drinking, that Fireball would make for a terrible victory shower, that Josh busted out his handy TI-83 to do some math, that in an alternate universe Charleton Heston starred in Chariots of Fire, and finally, that David has his catalog of Jewish athletes on microfiche. #oscars #shortshorts #brunchbourbon #spenning #fireball #ti83 #charletonheston #microfiche
Jared, Oriana and Ned start the new year with Ned's choice of topic: the short children's works Roverandom and Mr. Bliss. Tolkien has been described as a children's author both with praise and disparagement over time, but a more accurate way to put it is that while he was busy working on his cycle of early Middle-earth stories with its high drama and tragedy in the 1920s and 1930s, he was also a loving father to four young children who often made up many stories and tales for them. The Hobbit itself has strong roots in this activity but whether it's the Father Christmas letters, the original Tom Bombadil stories, the early versions of Farmer Giles of Ham or more besides, it's a large creative part of his work in those decades. After The Hobbit was accepted for publication, Tolkien provided the manuscripts for, among other submissions, the stories Roverandom and Mr. Bliss for consideration, though the success of The Hobbit and the request for a sequel led him down other paths, with the two stories receiving separate posthumous publication instead. Is there ultimately anything more to Mr. Bliss than a series of random happenings that the titular character barely seems to be at the center of a lot of the time? How does Roverandom work in notable contrast to Mr. Bliss, with its deeper emotions as much as it has a sense of playful satire? How well does Tolkien's art for both stories achieve a distinct resonance and beauty? And who wouldn't want to get a newspaper called Ocean Notions, perhaps most applicable these days if you live in a pineapple under the sea?SHOW NOTES.Jared's doodle – a beautiful and striking moment from an equally striking story.Join the Megaphonic Patreon! This is a very special episode of the show. I was so honored to have the opportunity to speak with Ron Defore, author of the book "Growing Up in Disneyland". Ron is the son of Hollywood royalty. His father, Don Defore, is a star of broadway, film and television. He is most recognized for his roles in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Hazel, and It Happened On 5th Avenue. He worked with such legends as Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, Spencer Tracy, John Wayne, and Charleton Heston. He was friends with Walt Disney and owned a restaurant in Disneyland, "Don Defore's Silver Banjo Barbecue. Need I say more? Ron was gracious enough to take time discussing the book and his father's career. To learn more, check out www..growingupindisneyland.com or www.defore.net Enjoy!
This week we're officially and appropriately going ape! It's time for the original 1968 Planet of the Apes. The ram's horn has got us punchy this week as we're learning that this is somehow the least pessimistic version of the movie, sort out our feelings on Charleton Heston, and rave about Jerry Goldsmith's pioneering experimental soundtrack. Plus, we're touching on some of the original 5-film franchise's wildest moments. You may be asking, what do the McCarthy hearings and the CIA have to do with Planet of the Apes? It turns out, so much.Next week we're traveling to South Korea for a little movie you may have heard of: Bong Joon-ho's Parasite from 2019!
Charleton Heston was a Hollywood icon, starring in great films like The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, Planet of the Apes, and Soylent Green (spoiler alert: it was people!). David Fantle and Tom Johnson are back to talk to Larry and Mike about their amazing interviews with Mr. Heston at his Los Angeles home!
Join our warm conversation with retired Santa Barbara City College Professor of Logic and actor friend of Charleton Heston, the endlessly fascinating Dr. Mark McIntire. He takes us on a wild journey through his background in New England, embracing the Catholic Church, learning Latin in high-school from nuns, his uncanny impression of John F. Kennedy, Jr (seriously, the very best I've ever seen), studying Philosophy and Law at very old universities in Rome (one of his professors was Joseph Ratzinger), then leaving the Catholic Church, getting Ed Asner fired from the Screen Actors Guild in California, his friendship with movie titan and civil liberties activist Charleton Heston, his long teaching career ending in retirement from Santa Barbara City College, where he fought the corrupt grade-inflating swamp administrators and Socialist/Communist grade-inflating faculty who tried to get him fired for not being a Socialist. Now Mark, in retirement, still gives back to his community through online education for homeschoolers, for adult learners looking to get what they never got, or to shore up what they once had. He runs a website designed for helping people think critically based on his several decades of college teaching experience in that exact area. Listen to him doing an incredible performance as JFK, Jr decades ago : https://vimeo.com/88400045?fbclid=IwAR2bNRcUbDmDSP36ukRzv2_pKSp1n6NAshTRJfPsdKSGTRkeGIZlW-a90-g The Republican Professor is a pro-Critical-Thinking, pro-Learning-Latin-and-Logic, pro-Charleton-Heston, pro-scary-good-impressions-of-famous-people, pro-standing-up-to-swamp-administrators, pro-standing-up-to-the-Corrupt-Communists, pro-true-higher-education podcast . We're back in the Old West again this week on Fabulous Film & Friends to discuss William Wyler's 1958 Technirama Masterpiece The Big Country, starring Gregory Peck, Charleton Heston, Carroll Baker, Jean Simmons, Charles Bickford, Chuck Connors and Burl Ives in an Oscar winning role. My guests today are Roseanne Caputi and Burton Brown. And now the synopsis:A tale of two rival Texas cattle barons, the Big Countrty pits Marjor Henry Terrell against Rufus Hannessy, whose anger towards each other reaches a boliling point after Terrell's future son-in-law, James Mckay an Eastern sea captain, is hazed and humiliated by Rufus' wayward son Buck upon McKay's arrival in Texas. Patricia Terrell, the major's doting daughter and McKay's fiancé feels McKay is too timid after McKay refuses to exact revenge upon Buck in a hunting party led by the Major and his foreman and nearly-adopted son, Steve Leech. And when McKay goes out by himself into the Texas wilderness to survey the land and to ultimately buy Patricia a wedding present from Patricia's school teacher friend Julie Marrigon, he is assumed lost. Returning to the Terrell's ranch, Leech calls McKay a coward and a liar in front of Patricia and challenges him to a fight, which McKay rejects, causing Patricia to call him a coward outright and for that McKay breaks off his engagement with her. Before he leaves, however, McKay wakes Leech up in the middle of the night for a memorable goodbye fistfight with only the quiet Texas plains as obsevers. Meanwhile, the present that McKay buys off of Julie is her family land that contains The Big Muddy a river that both the Terrells and Hannesseys use during the dry seasons to water their cattle. Knowing The Big Muddy to be the source of the hatred the Terrells and Hannessey's hold towards one another, McKay intends to let both families water their cattle on it, but Rufus has plans of his own and he kidnaps Julie Marrigon in the efforts to both take the Big Muddy from her and to lure The Major into a trap in the treacherous Blanco Canyon, near Hannessey's Homestead that will result in one final, triumphant battle. Having developed feelings for Ms. Marrigon, McKay and his new friend, Ramon, the Major's livestock hand, face certain death and ride into Blanco Canyon to rescue her with The Major and his men close behind.Who wins? Hollywood Heyday--that was entertainment! Mike and Larry talk to David Fantle and Tom Johnson, authors of "Hollywood Heyday" (Manopause.com/hollywoodheyday), about how at age 18 they began their unlikely and precocious adventures interviewing the biggest stars of the golden era of Hollywood. Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, George Burns, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Mickey Rooney, Charleton Heston, are just some of the Hollywood icons they interviewed. Find out how they got so lucky! And there's an interesting story about Jacqueline Bisset and her persistent dog you'll want to hear!
We complained about not having Charleton Heston in The Poseidon Adventure. Mayhap we'll complain about not having Gene Hackman in this gem. One of the classics of the disaster genre, starring Moses himself, along with more stars than you can shake the ground at, including Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Genévieve Bujold, Lorne Greene, Richard Roundtree, Victoria Principal, and Walter Matthau.
We kick off a fun filled December by counting down the EPIC songs of the O3L era (imagine some echo when you read that...it sounds much cooler that way). These are the 6+ minute long songs that riveted us, took us along on emotional journeys, and made us feel like we were dancing in bubbles. You'll just have to trust us on that last one... In this epic episode, we cover a lot of ground - being thinkers, getting up before the cocks (those are roosters, you sicko), Charleton Heston, Rush, Bryan Adams, Saved By The Bell, and much more. Stay tuned for the exciting shows we have in store for the remainder of Season 2, including our holiday special and best of 2021 episodes!
We invite you to season one of Now I'm Intrigued. I'm going to tell you the incredible story of a man involved in CIA brainwashing experiments, who participated in the MK -Ultra mind control program (which was an actual real thing… not just a conspiracy theory) and had connections to some of the most interesting people in recent history. People like Patty Hearst, Charleton Heston, and Jack Ruby. He was also my boss. Join me for season one as we take a deep dive into the fascinating life of Dr. Jolly West.Support the Show --> https://www.patreon.com/swagfampodcastnetwork

On this week's installment of Brook Reading's Month-Long Shakespeare Extravaganza, I am joined by Jay of Politics with Dummies, and one of my brothers in the No Phony Podcast Network, to discuss “Julius Caesar”. We touch upon the rebellious nature of iambic pentameter, the importance of good teachers AND Cliff notes, and our mutual feeling that Charleton Heston can suck it. Jay finds very significant similarities between our play and the past four years, we also talk about “Romeo + Juliet”, “Dead Poets Society”, and we throw our books (very DPS-esque). You can find Jay's talent on such shows as the Politics with Dummies Podcast, Coyote's Bluff, and much more. In his current position as art critic at the Los Angeles Times, Christopher Knight has been speaking truth to power for almost four decades. He charted the contemporary art waters in a city that has since become one of the world’s art hubs before most people ever noticed. He doesn’t shy away from controversy, as his recent columns about the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s renovations suggest. This year he was awarded two special honors: the Rabkin Lifetime Achievement Award for Art Journalism and the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. In this episode, he shares stories about his years in LA, his work as a newspaper art critic, and even a very curious letter he received from actor Charleton Heston about artist Andrew Wyeth. The music featured in this episode is the track “Zuma" by Austin David.Subscribe to Hyperallergic’s Podcast on iTunes, or anywhere else you listen to podcasts.
Still stuck at home or just being safe? Thats all good with us, we have a new episode for you. Whether you are on the road or staying at home, we are here with you and giving you something to listen to every week if possible. And what do we cover this week? Elsewhen? No! Elseworlds! Yes! Whats the difference you ask. Well Elsewhen is Fan fiction of Marvels X-Men. Elseworlds is from the Distinguished competition, aka DC Comics. It is just their kind of What ifs if you know what we mean. We get to see a different kind of Superman here, with more “colonial roots” so to speak, or to write or , oh I dont know, I am getting confused now. Time to check my blood sugar. John Hijatt and Kirk Greenfield once again join Brian Hughes so they can take a look back at an alternate history Superman story quite appropriate for this Memorial Day weekend. Tim Elliott had to go on assignment checking out the casinos in LasVegas like Charleton Heston in the Omega Man. Thats right, there is nobody there at all. Total Ghost Town. When do the albino zombies show up, or maybe the running zombies of ‘I am Legend” or maybe, if hes lucky, “The Amazombies” (No thats not a movie, but it should be, it be right up there with “Frankenhooker”). After the success of Jaws and the success of Star Wars, two of cinema's most inventive titans, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas (longtime friends), came together to create one of cinema's most famous icons...Indiana Jones. Drawing from old serials and Charleton Heston's little-known character Harry Steele, Lucas and Spielberg formed a wholly original tale of mystery, adventure, and excitement. Raiders of the Lost Ark took audiences by storm. The two had another hit on their hands and Harrison Ford's character would rival his other famous role Han Solo. How does Raiders of the Lost Ark stack up against Lucas' and Spielberg's other classic creations? Join Corbin and Allen as they kick off their Indiana Jones retrospective series to find out!

Movie Night - For Whom the Bell Tolls. Friendship and fellowship is important for people's general health and well-being. All of the Star Trek series have shown some sort of interaction between the members of its crew on screen in varying ways. The Next Generation had poker, Deep Space Nine had Vic's lounge, Voyager had Sandrine's and the resort program, and Enterprise had movie night. Since the invention of home video releases of films, many fans of movies have participated in an event know as "Movie Night!" People gather together in a group, watch a movie, and then discuss the film in a casual conversation. Sometimes they even go out for a slice of pie while they discuss. In this episode of Warp Five, host Brandon-Shea Mutala is joined by Mike Schindler to discuss the first film mentioned as having been watched during movie night on the NX-01: For Whom the Bell Tolls. We talk about the plot, the characters, the actors, white-washing, and whether or not the film still holds up. We even discuss Charleton Heston portraying a Mexican. This episode is Discussion Salsa as chunky as a zombie’s braincase. Wicked visual, Right? Hah! Right out of the gate the Underground Inc. crew rips into the question “Who should narrate your life?”, and some of the answers are Charleton Heston, Vincent Price and Kevin Conroy! Other gems of subject matter include Computer Generated Nipples and What To Do If Godzilla Attacked. While Chris Redfield is completely absent of this film, it’s still a pretty damn entertaining horror/thriller. The laser-grid trap is Unforgettable as an on-screen take down. Well after the guys get finished with the discussion of Gnarly Narrators, we begin our film countdown at 13 minutes and eleven seconds, give or take a Richard Pryor. Speaker: Jeff Jarvis The Ten Commandments...would you know what they are? Do you try to follow them? You should, shouldn't you? After all, they’re not the "Ten Suggestions" (joke). Maybe all you know about them is what you remember seeing in one of the old Hollywood movies with Charleton Heston playing Moses. What many don’t realize is that this list of prescribed behaviors written on some stone tablets thousands of years ago, marked a major shift in how people interacted with the Divine. This Sunday we begin a dialogue between us and the ten commandments.
The subject is Bibleman. A superhero that not even Keith or Greg have heard of, but his skills are pretty legendary. The duo also touch upon race relations in the Burger King Kids Club, and Greg recalls a terrible TV show from the past.

People have generally assumed there is a God, different ideas about Him, but certainly assume He is there. With that assumption comes some questions. One question that is on the mind of anyone who believes in God is, *What does He look like?*. The old man with the grey beard seems to have really caught on. I think things like the Sistine Chapel and Charleton Heston probably cemented that view, although nowhere in Scripture is God referred to as being either an old man or having a long, grey beard. As a matter of fact, we seem to ignore what is said about Him. It doesn't get much straight-forward than this: *Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God*. 1 Timothy 1:17)

On our 55th show we look into two diets that are close relatives of veganism, both of which can be integrated into a vegan diet to improve the health benefits. Our first guest, David Snieckus, has been practicing a Macrobiotic diet for over 30 years and has been vegan for most of that time. While he doesn't tell us exactly what he eats we do learn a lot from him about the yin and yang underlying the lifestyle that is more than a diet. Our second guest, Nora Hamerman, has been a raw foodist for a mere 3 years and has been so inspired that she is bringing raw foods guru David Wolfe to her school, the Rhode Island School of Design. Nora illuminates her path to raw foods and vegan ethics, and tells us about creating this event for her senior project. We pay disrespects (including some fun audio clips) to former NRA president Charleton Heston who died last week, and update you on the latest costs and consequences of the recent beef recall.
