Welcome to another episode of Perspective Checks where I sit down with friends and folks from the TTRPG world and discuss what they love about this wonderful hobby! This month I'm joined by Meadow a.k.a. HowdyLoveDarlingM, an incredibly thoughtful TTRPG designer, actual play GM, performer, cosplayer, writer, singer, artist, Meadow does so much! We talk about her collection of games and how she loves to explore the world of storytelling and doesn't shy away from filling the gaps in games with her own mechanics, putting her own spin on things to leave her mark, and the importance of collaboration throughout the entire process. We also talk about our love of media and how it inspires everything we think and make, how we can use that creativity to explore new ideas and stories, as well as the importance of WRITING THINGS WITH YOUR HANDS. Do it, seriously, try it for a bit and see how much you realize you missed it/love it. Never stop making art, telling stories, and putting yourself into them. Rebel with whatever cool silly things you're into (and share the weird with me please). And now go follow Meadow! Meadow's games are available on her Patreon, and you can hear them played on her Twitch or YouTube! ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! What if the reason your marriage still feels disconnected… isn't because you don't understand the problem? What if it's because you haven't yet stepped into what actually creates change? In this episode, we're talking about the place so many women get stuck—especially after they've already started doing the inner work. You're more aware now. You're catching your thoughts. You're recognizing the patterns that have been creating distance in your marriage. But the truth is…your intimacy, connection, and desire still feel the sameAnd now you're wondering:“Why doesn't this feel different?”“Why do I still feel disconnected from my husband?”“Am I doing something wrong?”Let's gently challenge that…What if nothing has gone wrong? What if you're simply in the middle of transformation?⸻In This Episode, You'll Learn:Why awareness alone won't rebuild intimacy or emotional connection in your marriageThe hidden gap between knowing what's wrong and actually changing how you show upWhy your brain defaults to old patterns—even when you know betterHow to move from being a meaning maker to a pattern breaker in your marriage⸻The Truth About Intimacy & Connection in Midlife MarriageHere's what most women don't realize:Insight does not equal transformationYou don't change your marriage by:hearing something onceunderstanding it intellectuallyor agreeing with itYou change your marriage by:practicing a new way of showing up—moment by momentBecause even when your thinking starts to shift…your reactions will still default to what's familiarAnd that doesn't mean you're failing. It means you're growing.⸻The Missing Piece: Moving From Awareness to ActionAwareness is powerful…but it's only the beginning.Real change happens when you:slow down your reactionschoose what you want to create in the momentand intentionally show up differentlyBecause this is where intimacy starts to rebuild:not from knowing more…but from doing something newThat's not a sign to stop. It's a sign you're breaking old patterns.⸻A Faith-Based Perspective on Real ChangeThis isn't just mindset work…this is spiritual transformation.“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2Renewal doesn't happen in a moment. It happens through repetition.Every time you choose:openness instead of shutting downconnection instead of withdrawaltruth instead of assumptionyou are partnering with God in rebuilding your marriage.⸻Your Next Step This week, I want you to take what you learned in the last episode even further. When something happens in your marriage, pause and ask:What happened? What did I make it mean? What do I want to create instead? How am I going to show up differently right now?Not later. In the moment.Because this is how:emotional connection growsintimacy rebuildsand desire begins to return⸻Ready to Go Deeper? If this episode spoke to you, come join me inside my private Facebook community:Empty Nest Wives: Rebuilding Intimacy & ConnectionThis is where we go deeper into:rebuilding emotional connectionrestoring intimacy and romancebreaking old patterns in your marriageand creating a relationship that feels alive againOr send me a message. I would love to personally connect with you.Friend…Awareness is not the finish line. It's the doorway. And when you begin making new decisions—right in the middle of real-life moments—everything in your marriage can begin to shift.I'm not sharing this from theory…This is what God has walked me through in my own marriage. And I believe with everything in me:He can do the same for you.⸻Related EpisodesEP 316: My Sex Drive Isn't There… I Want Emotional Connection and IntimacyEP 315: Don't Know How to Get It Back? What if the problem isn't your desire… but the meaning you're giving it?What if nothing is actually wrong with your marriage…but the way you're interpreting what you're feeling is quietly creating distance? In today's episode, we're having a real and honest conversation about something so many midlife Christian wives are silently carrying:“I love my husband… but my sex drive just isn't there.”You want emotional connectionYou want intimacy and romanceYou want to feel close againBut instead…You feel disconnected, confused, and maybe even a little broken. And here's where most women go: “Something must be wrong with me” “Something must be off in our marriage” “Why does this feel so hard now?”But let's gently challenge that…What if your desire isn't gone? What if it's being shaped—blocked even—by the meaning you're assigning to your experience?⸻In This Episode, You'll Learn:Why your lack of sex drive doesn't automatically mean disconnection in your marriageHow your thought patterns are influencing your intimacy, desire, and emotional connectionThe powerful truth behind Romans 12:2 and renewing your mind in marriageWhy connection often comes before desire (not the other way around)A simple 4-step process to help you rebuild intimacy, shift your thinking, and feel closer to your husband again⸻The Truth Most Women Miss About Intimacy in Midlife MarriageYou're not just experiencing your marriage…you are interpreting it.And that interpretation is shaping:how you feel about your husbandhow you show up in your marriageand even your desire for intimacy and romanceWhen you start believing: “We're disconnected” “Something's wrong” “I should feel different”You unknowingly create pressure… distance… and resistance. But when you shift the meaning?Everything begins to open again.⸻A Faith-Based Shift That Changes EverythingThis isn't just mindset…this is biblical.“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2When you change the meaning you're giving your marriage…you begin to experience your marriage differently. And that's where intimacy starts to rebuild—not from pressure, but from connection, safety, and openness.⸻Your Next Step (Don't Skip This)This week, I want you to notice:What am I feeling? What am I making it mean?Is that actually true? What's another way I could see this? Then invite God into it:“Lord, show me what's true here.”⸻

Cynthia Boone is a returning guest. She is a Late Discovery Adoptee who learned she was adopted just two days after her 46th birthday. Her journey to truth unfolded over several years—first reuniting with her birthmother, and later, through AncestryDNA, connecting with her birthfather's family. These discoveries reshaped her understanding of identity, family, and belonging. An educator for 39 years, Cynthia spent much of her career as a reading specialist in K–8 public schools, bringing deep listening skills, patience, and compassion to her work. Today, she brings those same strengths to adoptee spaces as a facilitator and community leader. She is a founding member of the Adoptee Sisterhood Group and an active participant in adoptee writing and discussion communities. At Untangling Our Roots 2026, Cynthia was a panelist for The Last to Know: How to Heal from Late Discovery, sharing lived experience, insight, and hope for those navigating identity after late discovery.Music by Corey Quinn
Welcome back to the monthly design diaries series of 2026 where I am holding myself accountable toward putting out more games. For the first Design Diaries of the year that isn't about Gardens of Rust, I decided to go back to what was going to be the original Design Diaries episode of 2026... my two-player buddy cop TTRPG Decktectives. In this game, the two players sit down and create a pair of detectives or investigators who are going to solve a crime in around 1 hour of real time like an episode your favorite procedural using a deck of cards and a Three Act Structure with "commercial breaks." The game mechanics are very simple, using cards from small hands to overcome prompts and obstacles flipped from a 3x3 grid representing each Act of the investigation to create piles of Clues & Complications. By the end, hopefully your duo has amassed enough evidence to put away the culprit (or solve the crime and let it slide). I'm confident this one's done design-wise, I just need to get the layout done. SOMEONE YELL AT ME UNTIL I DO! ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord!

Welcome to another episode of Perspective Checks where I sit down with friends and folks from the TTRPG world and discuss what they love about this wonderful hobby! This month I have the pleasure of talking with Brian Flaherty, AP performer, GM, sound designer, producer, game designer, and one of the founders of the Many Sided Media network with an insane lineup of TTRPG podcasts including: My First Dungeon Talk of the Table Bitcherton And many, many more of some absolute staples in my own podcast queue like Dice Exploder and Maia's Game Room. Anyway, this is just to say Brian wears A TON of hats that make him and his crew so aspirational and inspirational. One of my favorite quotes of this interview is him describing the idea for this TTRPG podcast adventure to show people "the peak of an indie game through actual play," and to get people excited about the game so they can play anywhere on that mountain in terms of how much production or extras they want to add onto it, but the goal is to provide an immersive, enjoyable experience with a game that tells a story like no other can. Brian's episode is full of so much wisdom not just about podcasting professionally, but also about supporting creators, artists, and all the people whose work goes into making the things we love and play to tell great stories. Please go check out everything Brian and his friends work on over at Many Sided Media and pay it back for him demanding that you leave me a rating (please do) by going and 5-star bombing all of their shows, too! ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! This is the episode for every triathlete with ambitions in sprint and Olympic distance triathlon, from beginners looking to complete to front-of-the-pack athletes looking to compete. Triathlon training has similarities across the board from sprint to Ironman distance, but the specific training obviously differs between distances, and in this episode we break down exactly, when, why and how. Let's get stuck in! HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS: How long does it take to prepare for a sprint or an Olympic distance race if you're a beginner? What about an intermediate to advanced triathlete? Key sessions in swimming, cycling and running for sprint and Olympic distance triathletes How long should your long run and ride be as a sprint or Olympic distance triathlete? What role does brick workouts play in sprint and Olympic Distance triathlon training? Why tapering is much harder to get right for shorter than for longer races, and how to actually do it. Key considerations if you're racing draft-legal rather than non-draft sprint and Olympic distance races Sample training week for an Olympic distance triathlon Listener questions! Welcome back to the monthly design diaries series of 2026 where I am holding myself accountable toward putting out more games. We're back to talk more Gardens of Rust, the post-catastrophe survival and community rebuilding game by myself and Christian from the DMs After Dark. This is the final episode of this series for Gardens of Rust and it goes over the Community Phase of the game; when the PCs return back to their small settlement of survivors in the Rust, play zooms out and the players make decisions from a community-wide perspective. Based on the Comm's stats, the players have a limited number of actions to handle issues facing the community, make progress on forward-looking projects, enjoy moments when they can be enjoyed, and more, which in turn inform the goals of the next PC-focused Player Phase. Please email or join the DMs After Dark Discord server to tell me about the kind of character you'd make for a post-collapse game so we can make it together! I want to start playtesting this game more with new players, so maybe we can set something up on the Discord. ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord! Your kids can pass a test — but can they evaluate an idea, make a wise decision, or stand for truth when no one is watching? If that question makes you pause, this episode is exactly what you need to hear.We are breaking down why the skills of critical thinking matter more than any answer in a textbook.. I'm also sharing 1 powerful habit that changes everything about how your kids learn and think:✅The 1 daily habit that builds skills of critical thinking in any subject✅Whether memorizing answers produces followers or leaders✅Why asking questions is more powerful than any curriculum you can buy✅What to do so you can see your kids start thinking✅What it looks like when your child can finally evaluate ideas on their ownGrab the free resources mentioned in this episode and start building thinkers in your homeschool today.Resources for You FREE Read Aloud Magic FREE Notebooking Pages Become a VIP when you join the Raising Leaders Not Followers VIP Wait List. . . . - Get extra perks as a VIP in May!Show Notes:Your Child Doesn't Need to Know the Answer — They Need to Know How to ThinkYour child doesn't need to just know the answer. They need to know how to think and make decisions. A kid who can memorize facts but can't evaluate ideas is going to struggle in college, in work, and in life. Let's talk about a way to solve this problem today. What Are You Actually Training Your Kids For?I know you want the best for your kids. You want them to be prepared for the real world. You want them to have strong faith and discernment. But you're worried your kids may not be ready. You're tired of the idea that more school automatically means more success — that the more we do in school, the more successful they're going to be. These are myths.Your goal shouldn't just be that your kid can pass a test. A test just memorizes — it analyzes facts. For me, our goal was that our kids would follow Jesus, think clearly and biblically, and make wise decisions when we weren't around. We wanted to prepare them for real life.Schools teach answers. But leaders evaluate ideas. The problem is answers aren't enough. Schools teach to the test — it's the conveyor belt. Everyone does the same thing and gets a test to see if they've memorized all the answers. And it produces followers. Followers who just wait for direction. Followers who are waiting for approval or waiting for a worksheet to turn in.Thinkers and leaders — that's what I wanted for my kids. Not necessarily the president of the United States, but kids who lead in their own life, in their home, in their family. If your child has only been trained to fill in the blanks, don't be surprised when they struggle to take ownership and they're just waiting for someone to tell them what to do.So my question to you is — what are you training your children for?Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Courage to Think for YourselfI want to share a story about a man named Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He was a German pastor and theologian during Nazi rule. The surrounding culture was demanding conformity, fear, and silence. But he refused to follow. He was going to stand for truth. He kept asking what was right before God — not what was safe or popular.Bonhoeffer did not let the culture tell him what was true. He was surrounded by pressure, but he chose his own conviction. That is what discernment looks like.I don't remember the entire story, but I think it's important that we raise our kids to not have blind compliance to what everyone's telling them to do — but the courage to stand for truth. Spiritually, yes, but also in what they're learning. The history books are being rewritten, and we need to have discernment to know what is truth and what is not.Kids learn in school that it's just about the right answer, not the right question. They're afraid to be wrong. Discernment is both spiritual and practical. And kids need to learn how to pause, reflect, and ask what matters — and make sure their thinking is biblically based.Susanna Wesley Raised ThinkersSusanna Wesley was the mother of John Wesley and Charles Wesley. She home educated her children in the 1600s and was known for setting aside time to teach each of her kids individually rather than just letting them drift. She emphasized spiritual formation, discipline, and thoughtful thinking. She would ask questions.John Wesley went on to start the Methodist church. Charles Wesley wrote somewhere between 6,500 and 9,000 hymns. I can't imagine writing a hymn — that takes a lot of thinking ability.Susanna Wesley's home became a place where children learned to think about God, truth, and obedience with purpose. She wasn't just managing a household. She was shaping her children in character and in thinking. She didn't raise them to comply. She trained them to think, to question, and to live under God's truth.Again — what are you training your kids for? Just to do what mom tells them to do? Or to think critically and biblically? The One Habit That Changes Everything: QuestionsOkay, how do you actually do this? It's really one habit that changes everything — questions. You can use questions in any subject area. When I started using questions, it helped me relax and not be so worried about a checklist. I didn't even need curriculum for every subject because we could read books and ask questions. When I was a school teacher, I was supposed to follow the curriculum and couldn't really veer off of it — and that didn't encourage thinking on the part of my students. When I started homeschooling and started using questions, it changed everything. I was much more relaxed and much more intentional. My kids could take ownership by following their interests.I remember Hunter was into sports, and we were studying Roman history — which he didn't love at the time. But he did love sports, so we let him write a paper on Derek Jeter, one of the greatest shortstops in baseball. He learned about baseball science, math, history — all of it. And you can always ask questions like — why does this matter? What am I missing? What does this tell me about God, people, or truth? Did this person act the way God would want them to act? Did they have honor? And then — now that you've done all this, what are we going to do with this information? How to Start Using Questions This WeekTake one subject you're doing this week. Instead of a worksheet, ask one question about that topic. Keep it simple. Don't overteach. Let the conversation do the work. And here's my trick — when you ask a question, do not answer your own question. Ask another question. You know what happens when there's quiet and you can't handle it? You give them the answer. And what are you training your kids to do? To wait until mom answers her own question, and then we can move on because I don't have to think.Allow some time for quiet and for them to think. If they don't know the answer, ask a different question until you can begin a conversation. This is not a system or a lot of extra things to do. It is a way of life. This is how I teach my grandkids. This is how I taught my kids — in science, literature, music, art, math, history, character building, even cleaning the house. Why do I have to do this? Well, why do you think you have to do this? Turn everything into a question and let them come up with the answers. It's not about your children having the right answer. It's about asking the right question. What This Produces in Your KidsImagine your kids as confident decision makers. Kids who recognize truth. Teenagers who can question lies because they've been thinking on their own. Young adults who know how to act without panicking. Faith that lasts beyond your home. One of my students, Tracy Smith, said it so well — I love the idea of getting off the conveyor belt. Our kids are not cookie cutters. They all have unique thoughts, ideas, and talents that God has given them. If they are not given the opportunity to explore those, their gifts and offerings to this world are stifled. We need to allow them the chance to come to their individual conclusions — and they will give the world something to think about instead of the world telling them what to think.Another student, Rose, said after taking our leadership course — this helped me see how I could teach my kids to think logically. She was encouraged by the real life stories she could relate to, and she said the methods were transformational. You are not alone. These are methods that work. They are real and you can achieve them. The two free tools from last week — the Read Aloud Magic e-book and the free notebooking pages — combined with this idea of questions are three tools that can help you raise your kids to think well and think on their own. Grab those links in the show notes. And stay close to my emails and this podcast because I've got a boot camp coming up that is going to show you how to implement all of this in a real homeschool life. I can't wait to share more details. If you want to get on the waitlist, the link is in the show notes.

In this episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon, Lisa Woodruff, founder of Organize 365, shares a powerful reframe of what it means to be organized. Moving beyond clutter and to-do lists, she explores how organization is a learnable skill that can reduce "overwhelm", improve time management, and create space for purpose and meaning. Drawing on her research in applied psychology and years of hands-on experience, Lisa introduces practical systems to manage the "invisible load" of daily life, treat your household like a business, and redesign your routines for greater productivity and well-being. This conversation offers valuable insights for anyone navigating life transitions—including retirement—who wants to regain control, build better habits, and create a more intentional and fulfilling life. How are you going to manage organizational chaos in your home? Listen in and learn more. The Real Problem: We Know Organization Matters—But Don't Know How to Get Organized In this episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon, I had a fascinating conversation with Lisa Woodruff, founder and CEO of Organize 365 and author of Escaping Quicksand. What began as a discussion about organizing quickly became something much deeper: a rethinking of how we live, work, and care for ourselves across every stage of life. Because organization, as Lisa shows us, isn't about tidying up—it's about reclaiming your time, your energy, and ultimately, your purpose. Lisa shared a powerful statistic: 87% of Americans believe organization is a learnable skill—but fewer than 18% feel they are organized. That gap is where overwhelm lives. Most people think the goal is to "get everything done" so they can relax. But Lisa reframes the problem entirely: The real question is: how do we manage our households as the economic and operational systems they truly are? This is where her work becomes transformational. Your Home Is an Enterprise—Eliminate Organizational Chaos One of the most important insights from our conversation is this: Your household is not just a home—it is an economic entity. You manage: Finances Operations (maintenance, food, logistics) People (family, caregiving, relationships) Strategy (planning, scheduling, life transitions) Yet unlike in business, no one trains us to run it. Lisa's solution? Treat your home like a business—and yourself like its CEO. That mindset shift alone can begin to reduce chaos and create clarity. Where to Begin: Simple, Practical Steps Lisa offers a refreshingly realistic starting point: Acknowledge the scale of what you're managing You are running a complex system—give yourself credit. Start small—but stay consistent Even 20 minutes a day creates momentum. Focus on systems, not perfection The goal is progress, not a perfect home. Invest in your future self Every small act of organization today reduces stress tomorrow. This conversation is not just about organizing your home. It's about: Taking ownership of your time Designing your daily life Creating space for meaning and purpose Or, as Lisa so beautifully puts it: "Invest today in what you want to have tomorrow." Key Takeaways Organization is a learnable skill—but most people are never taught how to do it Your household functions like a business—and needs systems to operate effectively The biggest source of overwhelm is the invisible mental load, not just physical tasks Self-care is not indulgence—it's essential, holistic care for yourself Structure and systems are critical, especially during life transitions like retirement Small, consistent actions can create exponential improvements in your life To Learn More About Lisa Woodruff: Lisa's profile: linkedin.com/in/lisawoodruff Website: organize365.com (Company) Connect with me: Join my Substack Newsletter Rethink Retirement Website: www.simonassociates.net Book Website: www.andisimon.com Email: info@simonassociates.net Learn more about our books here: Rethink: Smashing the Myths of Women in Business Women Mean Business: Over 500 Insights from Extraordinary Leaders to Spark Your Success On the Brink: A Fresh Lens to Take Your Business to New Heights Now--it is time to share our new book with you! Redeemed to Know | How to Follow Jesus, Week 1 Texts: Romans 5:1–5; 2 Corinthians 5:18–21; John 17:3A lot of people recognize Jesus. They know the name, the story, the language, and the general outline of Christianity. But recognition is not the same thing as relationship. In Week 1 of How to Follow Jesus, Pastor Kevin opens Romans 5 and shows that following Jesus does not begin with performance, pressure, or self-improvement. It begins with reconciliation. Through Jesus, sinners are brought near, given peace with God, and welcomed into grace. This message also shows that eternal life is not only about heaven later. It is life with God now. And that means Scripture and prayer are not religious checklists—they are the daily practices of people who have already been brought near through Christ. If you have ever confused church familiarity with actually knowing God, this message is an invitation to move from information to communion, from distance to nearness, and from performance to peace. In this week's Sunday teaching at Oceanside Sanctuary, Jason Coker continues the "Snapshots of Jesus" series by diving into John 20:11-18, where Mary Magdalene encounters the resurrected Jesus but mistakes him for the gardener. Jason shares personal stories of existential crises—from the terrifying realization of becoming a new parent to waking up to the realities of systemic injustice—to illustrate how faith isn't simply about having the right facts or historical information. Instead, faith is about being deeply "known" by God. Drawing from theologians like James Cone and Paul Tillich, as well as psychologist Abraham Maslow, this episode explores what happens when ultimate reality breaks into our lives and we hear Christ call our name. "Cancer and environmental disasters in particular, but the worsening of our environment, are really things that are great equalizers. And we recognize that we're all kind of in this world together. We can really face these issues on a more human level. I think always recognizing that if we look at something, we think, 'Well, that doesn't relate to me or that problem is it really isn't my problem'—it sure is," ONS member Margaret "Peggy" Rosenzweig, PhD, CRNP-C, AOCNP®, FAAN, ONS scholar-in-residence and distinguished service professor of nursing and Nancy Glunt Hoffman Chair in Oncology Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in Pennsylvania told Jaime Weimer, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BS, AOCNS®, manager of oncology nursing practice at ONS, during a conversation about the effects of the environment on cancer care and outcomes. Highlights From This Episode "The process of establishing these research priorities usually happens every three or so years. And there's a lot of preliminary work of talking to multiple parties of interest regarding what they believe the research priorities are, what nurses are seeing in clinics and in the community, and really multiple opinions regarding where the direction of research for ONS should go. And we heard this time—loud and clear—from researchers, from nurses in clinics and in communities, from scholars, and multiple other interested parties, that the environment in a very broad context was very much a concern and specifically a concern for impact on cancer care delivery, quality, and outcomes." TS 1:49 "You can take some cancer outcome data and you can take patient data related to home address or zip code or even larger geographic areas and kind of do correlational studies to see 'Does one impact the other?' … There's been a lot of those in the literature. But they are very helpful because they're starting to define this idea that beyond the idea of just demographics—gender, age, race—that the whole concept of neighborhood and the influences of the neighborhood do impact cancer outcomes. And that's where we're seeing the sort of explosion in literature across multiple malignancies, stages of cancer, and across multiple questions—specific kinds of outcomes, everything from quality of life to tumor progression." TS 8:43 "There is growing literature around how cancer delivery can be better prepared for climate-related disasters. … There's a good article by Pamela Ginex that was published in Supportive Care in Cancer talking about climate disasters and oncology care. And that was really a systematic review looking at published literature and starting to classify where are the disruptions and how could we think about that from a research perspective. They ended up saying there are these patient-level outcome disruptions that of course include treatment disruption but also include this inability to communicate with the oncology care team, which is quite distressing. And there's a workforce disruption because there are very distressed clinicians who are experiencing the same climate-related disaster in their own lives and feeling like they are torn between their commitment to work and their commitment to family." TS 13:25 "After all these years in oncology nursing, I am convinced that we have to get the consideration of neighborhood. I think we do have to get back to the neighborhood level in order to boost the resilience of communities against cancer throughout the cancer trajectory." TS 31:53 "Let's take some of this to the community and boost the community in that way. I really feel like we have to think about just boots on the ground outside of the cancer center, instead of just documenting disparities or even doing interventional work, but still within our little ivory towers." TS 34:21 "You see the work of many in looking at the specific environmental risks to nurses through the toxic chemicals to which were exposed. But then thinking about the people who aren't as protected as nurses and the environmental workers, who are usually contracted out or not in unions, who don't have some of the same protections that nurses or other healthcare workers might have, and they are exposed to the chemicals without proper training or sometimes without protection. All of these things are very much worthy of an oncology nursing voice elevating these questions and saying, 'How can we study this? How can we best mitigate some of these risks?' Oncology nursing—we have to use our respect and good name in elevating all of these questions." TS 35:39

The adventure begins. Iorlas, Ranger of the North, Dunedain, descendant of Numenor, leaves the Grey Havens in spring on a quest from Cirdan, the Shipwright to investigate a blight on the sacred trees with which the elves build the ships that ferry the elves on to Valinor upon their departure from Middle Earth. On his way through the Shire to head south to the ruins of Eryn Vorn, Iorlas runs into Gandalf the Grey, who has his own quest for the Ranger. To the north, in the ruins of Fornost Erain, the ancient capital of the Dunedain, the shadow has lured other Men, Rangers who have not returned. Iorlas opts to head north to save the Men who have less time than the trees to the south, but quickly runs into opposition once he leaves the Shire... I spent an entire school term working as a counsellor at a primary school. 19 kids on my roster. And what I learned sitting with them changed how I think about what parents need to know right now. In this episode I break down the 3 biggest things I saw coming up over and over again: screen time and what it is really doing why so many kids have stopped talking to their parents and why what your child is doing online is not as safe as you think. I share what worked in my sessions, what I heard from parents and teachers, and how this experience has shaped what I want to do next. If you are a parent doing your best and still feeling like something is off with your kid, this episode is for you.
A different background, and a different lens on retail real estateCareers aren't linear. And the best ones usually evolve.Anya Wolf didn't start in retail real estate. Her background was in art, including studio work, art history, and hands-on experience in galleries and education. She was fully immersed in a creative path and exploring what that future could look like. But over time, she gained clarity. The path forward in the art world is long and highly specialized. Then a loss within her family brought everything into focus. It created urgency and a new perspective on the business side of things. That combination led her to make a decision: step into DLC and understand the investments and platform she had grown up around. What followed wasn't a fast track. She started in a traditional due diligence role. Managing files, answering questions, and supporting transactions. A typical entry point, but one that gave her real exposure to how deals actually get done and how properties are evaluated. That foundation mattered. It built a practical understanding of the business, especially around tenant behavior. One of the biggest takeaways is that retail decisions aren't driven by what consumers want, they're driven by economics. Rents, incentives, and demographics dictate outcomes, even when demand exists elsewhere. Now, her focus is evolving again. After building a strong internal foundation, she's shifting outward, developing relationships, expanding her network, and bringing new perspectives back into the organization.Retail remains strong, but interest rate volatility and broader uncertainty are creating friction. Historically, that's where opportunity shows up.And for the next generation inside a family business, that matters.Because this isn't just about maintaining what was built. It's about understanding it, evolving it, and ultimately creating your own lane within it.What You'll HearWhy nontraditional career paths can lead to stronger long-term growthHow starting in due diligence builds a real understanding of the businessWhy retail decisions are driven by economics, not consumer demandHow tenants actually evaluate locations and choose marketsWhy asking questions accelerates growth faster than pretending you knowHow to build your own identity inside a family businessWhere the next generation creates value inside an existing platformChapters00:02 – Introduction to Anya WolfBackground, role at DLC, and how she got here01:14 – From art to real estateStarting in art and realizing the limitations of that path03:24 – The turning pointFamily dynamics and the decision to enter the business09:34 – First role at DLCWhat due diligence actually looks like day-to-day10:48 – Learning the business from scratchHow real estate really works behind the scenes14:50 – Accelerating growth early onThe power of asking questions and not pretending18:36 – Shifting from internal to external growthWhy building a network is the next phase20:19 – State of the retail marketStrength, disruption, and interest rate pressure25:16 – Building your own identityNavigating a family business and carving your own lane29:28 – Rapid fireSkills, retail nostalgia, and real-life habits
Another episode of Tabletop Tutorial, where I'm joined by a guest to learn a new game together, one-on-one! This time I'm joined by my wife, Lynn, for more Lynnsanity. She recently bought me a zine by Wolf Manzella a.k.a. Wyrd Wolf Entertainment called Dick Wizards! Yes, you read that right, and what a title! It's provocative, it gets the people going! Now temper those thoughts, because this is a game about apprentice wizard detectives in the city of Providence, Rhode Island investigating Lovecraftian Cthulhu mythos in the form of crime and strange happenings around the city. On brand, Lynn keeps it real wild, and I think we had a great time playing this game. I highly recommend checking this zine out, it has some really cool mechanics with tarot cards, spellcasting, and creating enemies! Hope you enjoy, and I hope it makes you crave some Rhode Island specific food (somehow we didn't mention our amazing seafood even once, just the junk food). ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! Good day to you, I say, fair folk of the internet, and welcome to the character creation episode for my next solo podcast series of The One Ring 2e by Free League Publishing. This is a short episode I'm putting out because things have gotten a little out of control here in March for me, and will continue to be for April, so please be patient with my episode releases for the next month and a half, but! Let's make a character for a new game! If you want to add ideas or throw out potential cool locations/scenes/anything from your favorite bits of Middle Earth lore, be sure to join me for my 2nd Twitch Stream coming up Monday March 30th! Anyway, hopefully I get the rules of this character creation right, but we have the following cool guy for this upcoming series: Iorlas, Ranger of the North, Dunedain & descendant of the Numenoreans that sailed to the shores of Middle Earth fleeing the fall of Numenor. He is a capable Ranger, a Messenger that travels the land to spread word and ensure that the Free Folk of the world are ready for the spreading shadow from Mordor... He wields a famous ancient blade of the Numenoreans known as Nimloth's Tear, foe-slaying blade to Evil Men and Undead, forged to harken the silver light of Telperion of old, what would be the light of the white tree of Gondor. Very excited to tell a story in Middle Earth! I hope you're excited to hear :) ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! Welcome back to the monthly design diaries series of 2026 where I am holding myself accountable toward putting out more games. We're back to talk more Gardens of Rust, the post-catastrophe survival and community rebuilding game by myself and Christian from the DMs After Dark. In episode 3 I go over the usual responsibilities and role of the GM. Calling for rolls, how to prep (minimally, because I'm not a prep kind of GM), and the kinds of things a GM would be doing during the Player & Community Phases. This episode also has a mini-example of play with the two characters we made in the last Design Diaries. Nothing crazy comes up, but maybe next time (the last time for Gardens of Rust?) we'll do a combat or more involved example of play. Please email or join the DMs After Dark Discord server to tell me about the kind of character you'd make for a post-collapse game so we can make it together! I want to start playtesting this game more with new players, so maybe we can set something up on the Discord. ----more---- Join the DMs After Dark Discord channel! Donald Trump isn't hiding his corruption anymore—he's broadcasting it. But why is the media failing to see the threat right in front of them?In this video, Marc Elias breaks down how Donald Trump has fundamentally changed the rules of American politics by "saying the quiet part out loud." While traditional media outlets are still hunting for secret scandals and cover-ups (the "Watergate mindset"), Trump is openly dismantling democratic norms, demanding loyalty, and cheating in the public square.Marc explains why this "open authoritarianism" confuses the press, how it creates a permission structure for other GOP officials to break the law, and why this specific type of public corruption poses the greatest threat to free and fair elections in 2026 and beyond.Support Democracy Docket's mission:https://newsletters.democracydocket.com/youtubeFollow Democracy Docket:Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/democracydocket.comInstagram: https://instagram.com/democracydocketFacebook: https://facebook.com/democracydocketX/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DemocracyDocketTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@democracydocketThreads: https://www.threads.net/@democracydocket00:00 Trump's Blatant Public Corruption00:57 Stop Saying He “Said the Quiet Part Out Loud” 02:29 Cheating in Public — And Bragging About It05:23 Why the Media Doesn't Know How to Cover This 08:58 No Cover-Up, No Consequences? 12:31 Why This Is So Dangerous for Elections 15:24 Undermining Free and Fair Elections — Out Loud 18:39 Laying the Groundwork to Take Over Voting 21:16 We Cannot Let This Be Normalized24:05 The Sycophant Olympics Inside the Administration 28:07 What “The Right People Voting” Really Means 31:37 Who Are the “Right Leaders”? 34:04 The Power Republicans Don't Have36:09 Believe What He's Telling You 39:18 What We Must Do Before November
