I've been thinking about how I actually live out my philosophy lately, and here are 3 concepts that I've been trying to live out. I'm still working on them and I have a long way to go, but I hope these help you to learn how to live better. Here are the quotes I mentioned in the episode. Govern yourself First “ For kings reign well when they live according to God's will and serve Him in fear; and when they reign over themselves and do not become the servants of their own vices, but master the impetuosity of these by courageous constancy. For there is no inconsistency between constancy in virtue and royal courage in a king.” St. Anselm of Canterbury to Alexander King of the Scots. What is the difference in form between refusal to act and inability to act?' ‘if you say to someone “I am unable to do it,” when the task is one of striding over the north sea with mount T'ai under your arm, then this is a genuine case of inability to act. But if you say, “I am unable to do it,” when it is one of massaging an elder's joints for him, then this is a case of refusal to act, not of inability. Hence your failure to become a true King is not the same in kind as “striding over the North Sea with Mount T'ai under your arm”, but the same “as massaging an elder's joints for him”” Mencius, Book 1, Part A, 7.  Pg 56 “ But the one who seems to rule over men, but who is enslaved to anger and the love of power and pleasures, first will appear quite ridiculous to his subjects, since he wears a crown of gems and gold but is not crowned with moderation, since his whole body shines with a purple robe, but he has a disarrayed soul. Second, he will not even know how to administer his command. For if a person is unable to rule himself, how can he guide others rightly by the laws? But if you wish also to see each one conducting himself in warfare, you will find the one fighting demons and prevailing and conquering and crowned by Christ.”  St. John of Chrysostom - On the Comparison of a monk and a king. Don't Puff yourself up People think that they can clear up profound matters if they consider them deeply, but they exercise perverse thoughts and come to no good because they do their reflecting with only self- interest at the center.” Hagakure: The way of the Samurai, Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Pg 3 “unrelated theories or ideas that confuse students more than … edify them. … [teachers] should not say everything that we are able to say, lest we say less profitably the things that we ought to say … not the teaching of others…but the showing off” Hugh of St Victor Know where you are going “It is clear, Lucilius, that no man can live a happy life, or even a supportable life, without the study of wisdom; you know also that a happy life is reached when our wisdom is brought to completion, but that life is at least endurable even when our wisdom is only begun”  “Wipe out the imagination. Stop the pulling of the strings. Confine thyself to the present. Understand well what happens either to thee or to another. Divide and distribute every object into the causal [formal] and the material. Think of thy last hour. Let the wrong which is done by a man stay there where the wrong is done.” Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, VII, 29.  “The reason we make mistakes is because we all consider the parts of life, but never as a whole. The archer must know what he is seeking to hit; then he must aim and control the weapon by his skill. Our plans miscarry because they have no aim. When a man does not know what harbour he is making for, no wind is the right wind.” Seneca, LXXXI. On the supreme Good, Letters from a Stoic

How does this fit the dystopian nightmare of Carbon Trackers? At WEF 2022 in Davos, the president of Alibaba Group announces that the platform will rollout an individual carbon footprint tracker, along with a SaaS application for businesses to track their carbon footprints for ESG purposes. Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos on Tuesday, Alibaba Group president J. Michael Evans announced that the Chinese multinational e-commerce platform would soon be launching carbon footprint trackers in an attempt to change people's shopping and travel behaviors. The carbon footprint tracker looks to operate similarly to the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) social credit system by rewarding people who “do the right thing” while punishing those who “do the wrong thing.” https://sociable.co/government-and-policy/individual-carbon-footprint-tracker-alibaba-wef-2022/ Club of Rome – Humans are the Enemy, Eugenics Population Control Elite Ted Turner - “A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.” Ted Turner The First Global Revolution, written by Alexander King and Bertrand Schneider, and published by Pantheon Books in 1991. The book is a report by the Council of the Club of Rome, a global think tank that addresses major challenges facing humanity. The book explores the idea that humanity is facing a global revolution amid social, economic, technological, and cultural upheavals, and proposes a strategy for world survival and transformation. One of the controversial viewpoints expressed in the book is that "in searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill…All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome. The real enemy then is humanity itself."

Global Warming is the biggest reckoning the human race has yet to encounter. As the United States is still caught in the throes of denial of climate change and “doom & gloom” reigns, there are groups that are trying to solve this problem. One of those groups is the Club of Rome. Building on their groundbreaking report “The Limits to Growth”, released in 1972, the Club has convened a new group to help humanity grow out of our fossil fuel addiction. Their new report “Earth4All” started as a vibrant collective of leading economic thinkers, scientists, and advocates, convened by The Club of Rome, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Norwegian Business School. With more and more people and organisations joining, Earth4All has become a platform to connect and amplify the chorus of voices that want to upgrade our economies. We are not starting from scratch. The momentum is growing. Communities and policy makers across the world are already changing the way we think about economics. Earth4All builds on the legacies of The Limits to Growth and the Planetary Boundaries frameworks. Science is at the heart of their work. They rethink capitalism and move beyond GDP for a safe, secure and prosperous future in the Anthropocene. To help us work our way through Earth4All, we are joined by the Club of Rome's Till Kellerhoff. Till is the Program Director of the Club of Rome and Coordinator & National Engagement Lead of the Earth4All initiative as well as contributing author of Earth for All: A Survival Guide for Humanity. Before joining The Club of Rome, he studied Politics, Economics and International Relations at the University of Erfurt (Germany), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico) and the London School of Economics (UK). He is mostly working on themes around "Rethinking Economics" and concepts around societal wellbeing for all within planetary boundaries. You can follow Till on his Twitter @TKellerhoff and the Club of Rome on their twitter @ClubOfRome. About the Club of Rome: Most influential organizations begin with the meeting of a few like minds. In 1965, Aurelio Peccei, an Italian industrialist, made a speech that proved inspirational to Alexander King, the Scottish Head of Science at the OECD. The two found that they shared a profound concern for the long-term future of humanity and the planet, what they termed the modern ‘predicament of mankind'.Three years later, King and Peccei convened a meeting of European scientists in Rome. Although this first attempt failed to achieve unity, a core group of like-minded thinkers emerged. Their goal: to advance three core ideas that still define the Club of Rome today: a global and a long-term perspective, and the concept of “problematique”, a cluster of intertwined global problems, be they economic, environmental, political or social. At the group's first major gathering in 1970, Jay Forrester, a systems professor at MIT, offered to use computer models he had developed to study the complex problems which concerned the group more rigorously. An international team of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology began a study of the implications of unbridled exponential growth. They examined the five basic factors that determine and, in their interactions, ultimately limit growth on this planet – population, agricultural production, non-renewable resource depletion, industrial output and pollution. In 1972, the Club's first major Report, The Limits to Growth was published. It sold millions of copies worldwide, creating media controversy and also impetus for the global sustainability movement. This call for objective, scientific assessment of the impact of humanity's behavior and use of resources, still defines the Club of Rome today. While Limits had many messages, it fundamentally confronted the unchallenged paradigm of continuous material growth and the pursuit of endless economic expansion. Fifty years later, there is no doubt that the ecological footprint of humanity substantially exceeds its natural limits every year. The concerns of the Club of Rome have not lost their relevance. Today, the Club continues to be at the forefront of challenging and controversial global issues. Propelled by a new mission and organisational structure, which today includes 35 National Associations, the Club of Rome has now published over 45 Reports. They continue to challenge established paradigms and advocate for policies that can practically address the many emergencies facing society and the planet today. The Club remains true to its historical intent, while it attempts to lay the foundations for long-term systemic shifts in global social, environmental and economic systems. In short, it is an established, respected, international think-tank positioned to face the core challenges of the 21st Century. The organization includes around 100 active full members with a full-time secretariat in Winterthur, Switzerland with a satellite office in Brussels, Belgium.Like and subscribe to us on Youtube for more fun and exclusive content!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuM080VqVCe0gAns9V9WK9wSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/00gCjGhq8qrAEkraZnMwGR?go=1&sp_cid=ce203d55369588581151ec13011b84ac&utm_source=embed_player_pGoogle Podcast: https://podcasts.google.com/u/1/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cucmlrc21pbmQuY29tL2xpc3Rlbj9mb3JtYXQ9cnNz?Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/riks-mind-podcast/id1460215365Show Notes:The Club of Rome | Official Website Earth4All | Official WebsiteThe Club of Rome | TwitterThe Club of Rome | YoutubeTill Kellerhoff | TwitterTill Kellerhoff's Articles | The Club of RomeThe Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) | Official WebsiteThe Limits to Growth | The Club of RomeWhat the controversial 1972 ‘Limits to Growth' report got right: Our choices today shape future conditions for life on Earth by Matthew E. Lebensgefährliches Lob Lk 6,17.20-26

This week, Andrew Alexander King joins the podcast to talk about mountaineering, volunteering abroad and how he's using his travels as a force for good in the world. Andrew is an African-American explorer who started The Between Worlds Project as a way to provide support and media exposure to individuals, non-profits, and communities around the world that are battling sexism, racism, climate change, and economic barriers. Andrew has climbed more than 50 mountains around the world, and he is aiming to be the first African-American to climb the highest mountain and highest volcano on each continent. In this episode, you'll hear Andrew talk about volunteering abroad, and how we can all go beyond “hashtag activism” and actually make a difference with our travels. And listen up toward the end of the interview, when Andrew tells us about a really important expedition that hasn't gotten the attention — or the funding — that it deserves. Have you been trying to make a difference with your travel? If so, how is that going for you? What challenges have you encountered? What questions do you have? I'd love to hear about your experience and hope you'll share by sending me a voice message. Thank you so much for listening! Mountains don’t care what you look like. But that doesn’t mean the challenge is the same for everyone. Andrew Alexander King wants you to follow him up the world’s highest mountains. Heck, he’ll even pave the way on Earth’s highest volcanoes. Born in the projects of Detroit, King is no stranger to triumphing over adversity. And while he’s on pace to become the first African American to tackle the Seven Summits and Seven Volcanic Summits, his work is about bringing others with him — so his footprints aren’t the only ones. Now, with big-time brands like Black Diamond, HOKA ONE ONE, and Sea to Summit on board, the surfer-turned-climber-turned-free-diver has serious octane behind his goal. But King — who founded The Between Worlds Project to highlight the unique circumstances of the areas his summit work takes him — isn’t focusing solely on smashing the social and economic barriers that keep so many underrepresented groups from embarking on life-changing adventures (big and small). He also works hard to leave every place he visits better than he found it. That mission includes spending time with the people and institutions in any given country to give back through volunteering and advocacy. Not only will an hour listening to him inspire you, but you’ll also pick up some serious training and nutrition advice to boot! And if you don’t follow his jaw-dropping adventures already, you’ll definitely want to by the end of this episode.

Think of Ross Edgeley’s Great British Swim, or Christina Koch’s record-breaking spaceflight. And this week’s guest Andrew Alexander King is right up there. Andrew is a surfer, climber and mountaineer who is at the beginning of an audacious attempt to become the first African-American to climb the seven highest mountains and volcanoes on each continent. 14 peaks in all, each with their own dangers and unique challenges. As a life goal, it is frighteningly ambitious. And that’s before you factor in his Between Worlds Project, through which he hopes to subvert the “lottery ticket of birth” that currently sets your cultural path, and dictates who gets to see these environments as viable playgrounds; a subject that is currently the subject of much transatlantic discussion and controversy. Like I said, it is ambitious stuff, and about as far-removed from the “because it’s there’ orthodoxy that has shaped the narrative of exploration for the past two hundred years as it is possible to get. Andrew’s infectious personality and compelling backstory only add to the intrigue. Naturally, I was keen to speak to him for the show, and find out more about his quixotic quest, so in March 2021 we caught up over Zoom to discuss the whole thing. It’s a good one this. Enjoy. The book, the Limits of Growth, was the first report issued by the Club of Rome, an organization founded by Italian industrialist Aurelio Peccei and Scottish scientist Alexander King in 1968. The report warned that economic growth could not continue indefinitely because of resource depletion. It went on to sell 30 million copies in more than 30 languages, making it the best-selling environmental book in history. And yet … here we are nearly half a century later, and experiencing peak everything. The book was remarkably prescient … but apparently had little impact. What happened? And … what can be done about it?Our guest on Wiki Politiki, David Korten, is a member of the Club of Rome, and has devoted his work to bringing about what he calls an “ecological civilization.” Writes David about the “epic choice” we face:We can continue to seek marginal adjustments in the culture and institutions of the Imperial Civilization of violence, domination, and exploitation that put us on a path to self-extinction. Or we can transition to an Ecological Civilization dedicated to restoring the health of living Earth’s regenerative systems while securing material sufficiency and spiritual abundance for all people.Material sufficiency and spiritual abundance – the perfect way to shift from measuring gross national product, to enjoying gross national happiness.Dr. David Korten is the founder and president of the Living Economies Forum; co-founder, board member, and board chair emeritus of YES! I talk with epidemiologist and gamer Eric Lofgren, NYU game design instructor Alexander King and longtime player Virginia Wilkerson about the parallels between the pandemic in World of Warcraft the one we’re facing in the real world, and what lessons we can learn by studying how players reacted to a virtual virus. It’s the first episode of The Dumb Blonde Podcast, and Bunnie couldn’t be more excited to share it with you! She kicks off the show with Mrs. FeFe King, awesome chick and wife of rapper Alexander King. FeFe takes us back to how her and Al first met, how she went from living a normal life to living being a musician’s wife, turning jealousy into positivity, hot threesomes, super hot foursomes, and why you need to stop whining about being ghosted.   Takeaways: FeFe has been holding it down with Alex for 20 years. They first met when Al tried to impress her as a magazine salesman at the mall, but as the powerful Leo lioness she is, FeFe called the shots and crafted their first official date on her terms. Al’s mom was a songwriter, and music has always been a part of his life. FeFe supported him to go after his dreams, and Yes, it was hard at first not to be jealous, but much like Bunnie, FeFe figured if you can’t beat em, join em. Touring is exhausting, but it’s for the fans and worth it when we hear all your stories and see how happy it makes you. Don’t be a homie hopper. Once a friend has touched you, you are damaged goods. When Bunnie first met J, she didn’t even know who he was. She saw firsthand how much it meant to people that he really listened to everyone, and inspired people to be better. What turns FeFe and Bunnie on the most? Funny, and a good personality. Hot doesn’t hurt either. FeFe looks forward to having a restaurant and food truck one day, possibly called That’s a Rap where you can eat great food and listen to rap. Ladies, ladies. Come on, pull it together and stop being codependent and whiny about being ghosted. Get the d, get the hell out, put your clothes on and let the dude text you first. The penguin is obviously there to party, and eat some tacos.   Quotes: “No butt holes, and keep it PG.” “Everybody doesn’t get to live out their dream and it’s not because they don’t have one, it’s because they don’t have the balls to do it.” “It’s so much easier to get with girls you trust and know. It’s like here, hop on the dick and then you guys can eat breakfast together.” “The only thing that makes tour cool is meeting people. Tour is for the fans.” “Fuck all this country shit! I’m just trying to twerk and eat a damn wrap.” “Ladies! Don’t ever give a man the opportunity to ghost you.”   Mentioned: FeFe King @FeFe King - she’s a great Twitter troll btw Alexander King American Honey Jelly Roll Trisha Paytas Call Her Daddy   Check out Bunnie: Instagram:  @xomgitsbunnie @officialdumbblonde YouTube: Bunnie XO officialdumbblonde

Welcome to Episode 10 of “The Art of The Interview with Steven Adams”. Steve is welcomed into the home of artist Miles Regis. Miles Regis is a self-taught, experimental painter. If you have ever wondered if, when, or how to become a full-time artist, Miles Regis' story will fascinate and inspire you. Born in Trinidad, this artist has been greatly influenced by Caribbean artists such as Alexander King, LeRoy Clarke, Carlisle Harris, Boscoe & Geoffrey Holder. Regis’ paintings are distinctly Trinidadian in color and expression. In June of 2009, Regis' show "WL4WWD4" at Pounder-Koné Art Space was a complete success. Regis’ work was showcased in CNN’s “African Voices” feature on actor Isaiah Washington (link below), who collects Regis’ paintings; other collectors of Miles Regis’ work include actors Ron Perlman and playwright Trevor Rhone. Regis' work will be presented in the American Rag Los Angeles show - "Carnival", from Feb 11th to March 11th.
