It’s ICECO Month, and they brought in the right guy for it. David from ICECO says that after COVID changed everything. Like a lot of people, he went outside, went wheeling, and ended up pivoting his whole career around it. Now he’s working with a brand that started in OEM refrigeration — manufacturing the internals that go inside other companies’ products — before expanding into the outdoor and overlanding space. That OEM history matters because it’s where the technology comes from. ICECO runs SECOP compressors, which articulate up to 40 degrees without throwing an error — something Jimmy can personally relate to after loading a competitor’s fridge into his truck and watching it fault out. The conversation goes well past compressor specs. David and Tyler get into the framing that stuck with Jimmy most by the end: a fridge isn’t a recreational product that you also use at home — it’s a lifestyle tool that you bring with you. Jimmy’s been using a small fridge for grocery runs with his wife. She loads the car fridge first, doesn’t have to make the store her last stop, and comes home when she feels like it. That’s not overlanding. That’s just Tuesday. And it opened up a whole line of thinking about how the technology is circling back to everyday life after coming through the outdoor market. From there the episode covers some of the new product stuff: the refrigerated backpack (cold drinks on a day hike — the gap between “car camp” and “pack everything in”), the VL45 Plus front-opening drawer fridge that launched on Kickstarter June 10th (Tyler’s take: this solves the “I have to keep the whole back seat clear to open the lid” problem), and the ICECO x PRP collab coolers. David also teases some upcoming product lines he can’t fully get into — racing cooling systems among them, including what sounds like a wearable air conditioning system for fire suits. Tyler’s response: he wants a refrigerator fanny pack for one beer. [School of Movies 2026] The first Star Wars movie released in cinemas after seven long years since The Rise of Skywalker. It's a crowd-pleaser, a simple, space western from the director of Cowboys & Aliens, Zathura and Iron Man 1 & 2. And not a lot of people showed up for it, which feels like a damn shame, since just the experience of being sat there with the Ludwig Göransson score blasting through a sound system that costs a hundred times what most of us have in our living room was quite extraordinary. There's also something to be said for the miraculous creations we get to see blown up to proportions suited to IMAX, from the gestalt entity of Mando himself, to the pugilist son of Jabba the Hutt, and most especially the special little green gremlin who we get to spend some unexpectedly intense close time with. This film has been easy to dismiss, but there's more to it than the homogenisation of Disney Plus affords us. We open with an update on Jelle Geens, who has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his femur that has put his season on hold, including his pursuit of an Ironman World Championship qualification slot. Then we get into Lionel Sanders, who has confirmed he is working again with Mikal Iden after a difficult stretch dealing with RED-S and injury. Sanders is leaning into the Norwegian method as he targets Kona 2026. The big story of the week is Ironman Hamburg, where metal shards were deliberately spread across the bike course in the Kirchwerder area, causing an estimated 400 punctures and forcing more than 100 age groupers to DNF. Police have launched a formal investigation. Despite all of that, the pro race went ahead and Solveig Løvseth took her fourth consecutive full-distance Ironman win, holding off Laura Philipp by just over a minute to claim the European Championship title. We then recap T100 San Francisco, where Rico Bogen backed up his 2025 win with another dominant performance, going early on the bike and never looking back. Hayden Wilde, dealing with illness, had no answer for him. We close out looking ahead to Ironman Frankfurt on June 28, where Gustav Iden and Casper Stornes lead the field, and Magnus Ditlev finally makes his long-awaited 2026 season debut, plus a look at other upcoming start lists. Edwin Martin didn't start running to become an ultra-athlete—he started because life had gotten so dark he almost didn't start anything again at all.At 21, Martin hit rock bottom. Consumed by a gambling addiction and drowning in purposelessness, he was on his bathroom floor, ready to end his life, when a text from a friend (just three words: I love you) pulled him back. That moment became the foundation for everything that followed. He has since lost two close friends to suicide, and the grief and guilt that came with those losses sharpened his mission—use running to make sure people know they are seen, loved, and not alone. In this episode, Edwin walks Dominic through the full arc: from a COVID-canceled marathon run on a trail; to a full-distance Ironman with a partially torn Achilles; to 30 consecutive half marathons in August 2024; to a 2:50 marathon finish in early 2025; and ultimately, Project 24:70–the 24-hour treadmill run covering 133 miles to honor the 70 lives lost to suicide in Charleston County. He also breaks down the Stoney 100 (403 laps around a track) and what the monotony of that format does to the mind.Beyond the miles, Edwin and Dominic dig into identity, faith, men's mental health, the danger of making sport your God, and why Edwin believes the three worst words anyone can say are: I got this. His platform is growing fast, and his answer for why is simple: he never built it for himself.Tap into the Ironsned Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! Since founding The Digital Detox Coach in 2018, Colin has helped individuals and organizations around the world develop healthier, more productive, and more sustainable relationships with technology in an increasingly connected world. With a career in technology spanning more than three decades, Colin's personal journey began in the early 1990s when chronic stress started taking a toll on his health. Despite a successful career and involvement in groundbreaking technology projects, he found himself facing a critical turning point. Determined to regain control of his wellbeing, Colin committed himself to improving his fitness, discovering firsthand the profound connection between physical resilience, mental strength, and overall performance. What started as a personal challenge evolved into a lifelong pursuit of excellence. Through years of disciplined training, Colin progressed from rebuilding his health to competing in masters swimming and triathlon events, ultimately completing four Ironman triathlons. Along the way, he became deeply fascinated by the psychology and neuroscience of high performance, studying the mindset that enables endurance athletes to overcome adversity, build resilience, and achieve extraordinary goals. This exploration led Colin to a new and urgent area of focus: the intersection of technology, psychology, and human behaviour. Recognizing the profound impact digital devices were having on attention, wellbeing, productivity, and relationships, he dedicated himself to understanding how people can thrive in an increasingly digital world. Today, Colin is recognized as a leading voice in digital wellbeing, helping audiences navigate the challenges and opportunities created by modern technology and artificial intelligence. Through keynote presentations, coaching programs, and thought leadership, he empowers people to take back control of their time, focus, energy, and mental wellbeing without disconnecting from the benefits of innovation. Colin's work is driven by a powerful belief: technology should enhance human potential, not diminish it. His mission is to help individuals and organizations create healthier digital habits, build greater resilience, and unlock peak performance in a world that is more connected than ever before.

Director Guy Ritchie, when his movies don't star Madonna, tends to make his movies about crime and capers and calamity. His latest movie, “In The Grey”, is no different. This time, instead of an unintelligible Brad Pitt or that guy who played Iron Man playing Sherlock Holmes, we get Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal playing some action and adventure bad-asses named Sid and Bronco, respectively. Their job is to protect big money debt collector and fixer extraordinaire Rachel Wild, played by Eiza Gonzalez. She sells the capital management firm who loaned a billion dollars to a drug boss, who is now not paying the billion back, on her being able to get the drug boss to pay it back. Predictably the drug boss, as drug bosses tend to do, turns this debt collection into a dangerous game of automatic weapons, mines, drones with bombs and booby traps. Ritchie brings his usual well-choreographed action to this movie but is it worth going to the theater to find out what happens? Check out this episode of Movies Merica to find out! “In The Grey” also stars Carlos Bardem, Rosamund Pike, Fisher Stevens, Michael Vu, Mohammed Al Turki, Kojo Attah, James Wong, Kristofer Hivju, Darrell D'Silva, Emmett J. Known across Australia as a beacon of fierce resilience, Turia reveals a candid, hilariously unfiltered side of herself as she opens up about the chaotic reality of parenting two young boys while running a business. She shares how she had to unlearn her hyper-competitive athlete mindset to survive the daily grind, diving into a period of severe burnout that led her to seek therapy and discover the magic of asking herself, "What's going to make this day a little bit easier?" The conversation also explores her heritage, reflecting on growing up with a Tahitian mother whose home-cooked fish, rice, and lentils were decades ahead of the trend, alongside a raw look back at her Ironman days when toxic societal pressures forced her to under-fuel her body. From raw-dogging chia seeds to her controversial morning "badass coffee" routine, this chat is a funny, reassuring look at learning to let yourself off the hook. In today's edition of The Update Journal, the Yankees try to figure out life without Aaron Judge, which is like asking the Avengers to handle the final battle without Captain America, Iron Man, or anyone tall enough to reach the good snacks on top of the fridge. Judge's rib injury comes with that dreaded “4–6 weeks before re-imaging” timeline, which is not a return date — it's a medical cliffhanger. That means the Yankees aren't just waiting for him to come back; they're waiting to find out when they can start waiting for him to come back. Somewhere in the Bronx, the lineup card is being filled out with prayer, duct tape, and whatever's left in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders group chat. Then, A Closer Look heads to the NBA Finals, where ESPN somehow found itself in hot water for using an AI-generated Tony Parker image during Game 1. Because apparently the Worldwide Leader in Sports had access to decades of NBA footage, Getty Images, highlight packages, old Spurs broadcasts, and probably at least one intern who knows how Google Images works… and still chose “Tony Parker if he was rendered by a confused Xbox.” It's bad enough when AI steals jobs, but now it's apparently stealing cheekbones from retired point guards. And in today's Honorable Mention, we visit LA's first bikini coffee shop, where the baristas are serving lattes, dealing with weirdos, and proving once again that some people cannot be trusted around caffeine, confidence, or women just trying to do their jobs. It's one thing to order an iced vanilla latte; it's another thing to make the barista mentally file you under “security risk with oat milk.” Only in Los Angeles could coffee come with foam art, a dress code controversy, and a customer base that needs to be reminded this is still technically a workplace. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Tuesday, a teen yakking on his phone on a bus was told by a fellow rider to pipe down — and turned around and fatally shot the guy, cops and law-enforcement sources said.A jury convicted a man of manslaughter as a hate crime in the death of O'Shae Sibley, who was killed at a Brooklyn gas station during a confrontation that began with a group of young people shouting racist and anti-gay slurs at the professional dancer and his friends as they vogued to a Beyoncé song. And out in the American West, Progressive city council member Nithya Raman has advanced to a November runoff against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, setting up an unexpected matchup between two Democrats and former political allies to run the struggling city of nearly 4 million.

Jimmy and Tyler are back from very different weekends that somehow both ended the same way: hanging out with people you don’t see enough, doing stuff you love, and getting home before dark. Tyler took his toddler, Reid, out on the Rubicon for the first time, joining the Mad Hatters’ annual run at Loon. The trip came with an unexpected education: when you normally run sweep, you get out at every stop and help people. When you’re strapped to the car with a two-year-old, you’re sitting in the driver’s seat watching everyone else work for 15-minute stretches while your kid starts losing patience. By the time the group reached Spider Bowl around 10:30 am, Tyler pulled off at a campsite, radioed a goodbye, had lunch, and watched a Toyota pickup spend 30 minutes trying and failing to get up Super Bowl while Reid stood in the bed pointing at things and making everyone laugh. Two hours there, then out solo with Reid in the front seat, the air compressor cycling the rear locker, and Reid looking over every time to announce “dad tooting.” Home before 4 pm. Left at 5 am. Not a bad day. Jimmy left the assistant on her last day of school and drove up to dispersed camping near Bowman Road off Highway 20 — a trip organized around a group of high school friends he doesn’t see nearly enough, some of whom he hasn’t camped with in years. They came with trucks, a rooftop tent, a box of whiskey, handguns, a .22 rifle, Brandon’s breakfast burritos, and a set of homemade medallion awards for the weekend’s various competitions. The competitions included a shooting match (7 shooters, 10 rounds apiece at three stations — 210 shots hit paper across the board, which Jimmy found genuinely impressive), forest bocce (where bocce balls bounce off rocks and go 90 degrees), and a campfire tending category. Jimmy got fourth in the shooting competition, first in fire. He also got shot, sort of — a ricochet fragment hit one of the guys in the shoulder and another in the shin, both minor, first aid kits came out, everyone reevaluated, then they ran the formal shooting competition anyway. The guy who got hit (Michael — friend of a friend, first time meeting) turned out to be a serious whiskey person. Jimmy is also a serious whiskey person. Neither of them knew the other was bringing four bottles. They spent hours trading sips and talking. It was a great trip. They’re making it annual. Today we discuss how to execute your best possible race day performance. Mikael and Jack provide practical tips that you can apply from sprint distance triathlon to the Ironman. Some of these tips are probably familiar (but bear repeating), others you have likely never heard or thought of before.  HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS:  Proper pacing across swim, bike and run in a triathlon Why you should use RPE as the primary driver of pacing strategy Known and lesser-known tips for maximising speed across the swim and the bike Is “run for dough” still true in triathlon?  Managing the heat in hot races  Nutrition and hydration - more than just having a plan, it's about understanding how to adjust the plan on the fly when needed.  How to get the most out of yourself mentally - the brain is a central governor, so if your head is not in it, you won't have your best race. But getting your head to be in it and stay in it is easier said than done. DETAILED EPISODE SHOWNOTES:  We have detailed shownotes for all of our episodes. The shownotes are basically the podcast episode in written form, that you can read in 5-10 minutes. They are not transcriptions, but they are also not just surface-level overviews. Sometimes the moments that challenge your identity the most end up reshaping your entire relationship with money. In this episode of Money Tales, Bobbie LaPorte shares what it looks like to navigate financial highs and lows with humility and resourcefulness. After years of corporate success, Bobbie found herself asking a very different question. What do you do when the path you expected disappears and you still need to move forward? Bobbie's story is candid and full of hard-earned perspective and thoughtful generosity. Bobbie is a leadership advisor, executive coach, Founder and CEO of Bobbie LaPorte & Associates, where she helps leaders navigate volatility, complexity, and constant change. She works with Fortune 500 companies, global organizations, and high growth start-ups to build confident leaders who can think and perform at their best when the ground is shifting. Bobbie brings rare credibility to the conversation, having served as a CEO, COO and CMO in multiple Fortune 50 companies, including IBM, GE, and UnitedHealthcare, as well as leading two healthcare technology start ups. Bobbie is the and author of When the Curveballs Keep Coming. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master's in Positive Leadership and Strategy from IE University in Madrid. Known for blending real world executive experience with science-based insight, Bobbie helps leaders strengthen personal agency, confidence and decision making under pressure. Her work spans keynote talks, leadership workshops, enterprise learning programs and one on one executive coaching. When she's not working with leaders, Bobbie is training for her seventh Ironman triathlon—often alongside her two Golden Retrievers on Bay Area trails. Here are three money conversations this episode will help you navigate: 1. How your relationship with money is shaped early and evolves over time. Growing up between abundance and scarcity, Bobbie learned to be self-sufficient and still carries that lens into how she saves, spends and supports others today. 2. What it really takes to get through financial uncertainty. Bobbie shares the reality of starting over, including the humbling decision to take any job available while building something new, and how that shaped her confidence and independence. 3. How to define “enough” when success keeps raising the bar. Through her work with high-earning clients, Bobbie brings a grounded lens on balancing ambition and wealth with the relationships, health, time and everyday experiences that often get pushed aside in the pursuit of more. Follow Money Tales on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or YouTube Music for more real stories that inspire thoughtful, intentional decisions about money.

I'm joined by Dr. Jeffrey Sankoff to talk about three exercise “rules” you may be allowed to break: you don't always need to spread workouts across the week, intensity doesn't have to come from a formal interval session, and most short workouts don't require a complicated hydration or fueling plan. The Exercise Rules You're Allowed to BreakHave you ever skipped a workout because you couldn't do the “right” one? Maybe you didn't have time for the gym, a long hike, or a structured bike ride. Today, we revisit Voltaire's reminder that “the great is the enemy of the good” and apply it to exercise. The evidence is reassuring: weekend workouts count, short bursts of effort during the day count, and for most workouts under an hour, hydration hype may matter far less than we've been led to believe.Dr. Jeffrey Sankoff, an ER physician, Ironman triathlete, triathlon coach, and host of the evidence-focused TriDoc Podcast, joins me for this conversation. While Jeff works with endurance athletes, today's discussion is for anyone who wants to live long and well while still managing the realities of work, family, travel, and everyday life.First, we break the calendar rule. Many people assume exercise has to be spread evenly throughout the week, but a 2024 Circulation study on “weekend warrior” physical activity found that people who concentrated their moderate-to-vigorous exercise into one or two days still had lower risk for many diseases compared with inactive people, especially cardiometabolic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and sleep apnea. The study was observational, so it does not prove weekend-only exercise is ideal, and injury risk still matters. But the practical message is clear: if weekdays are impossible, weekends still count. Next, we break the formal-interval rule. High intensity does not always have to mean a structured HIIT class, a bike trainer, or a carefully timed workout. A 2026 European Heart Journal study found that a higher percentage of vigorous physical activity was associated with lower risk across several chronic diseases and mortality outcomes. Even a small proportion of vigorous activity may matter, meaning short real-life bursts—taking the stairs quickly, walking briskly uphill, carrying groceries with purpose, or chasing a child or grandchild—can become meaningful movement when they raise your breathing and effort level. This study was also observational, so it cannot prove cause and effect, and anyone with medical concerns should check with their clinician before adding vigorous bursts. Finally, we break the bottle rule. For endurance races, long workouts, or hot-weather exercise, hydration, electrolytes, and carbohydrates can matter. But for many 30- to 60-minute workouts in ordinary conditions, a formal hydration or fueling plan may not be necessary. The American College of Sports Medicine's position stand emphasizes fluid replacement to support hydration during physical activity, but the need depends on duration, sweat loss, heat, and intensity. A practical “N of 1” approach is to weigh yourself before and after a typical workout to see how much fluid you actually lose. We also discuss electrolytes and carbohydrates. Electrolytes are mostly salts, and they become more relevant with long, hot, sweaty, or repeated sessions. Carbohydrate-containing drinks can help with longer endurance performance, but for a 35-minute walk or a short gym session, sugar in your bottle is usually not the bottleneck. A systematic review on carbohydrates and exercise performance found benefits in longer exercise contexts, but that does not mean every short workout needs sports drinks or gels. TakeawaysDon't let the perfect workout plan keep you from the good-enough workout you can actually do.If weekdays are packed, a weekend warrior approach may still provide meaningful health benefits.Look for small bursts of vigorous effort in daily life, and for most workouts under an hour, water when thirsty is usually enough.Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Most athletes stumble into the "long game" of triathlon, but Paula Findlay reveals how her two-decade journey in the sport has evolved into a masterclass in resilience, strategy, and self-awareness. After battling injuries, mental hurdles, and the relentless pursuit of excellence, she shares how her approach to racing—and her life—has shifted from seeking wins to embracing growth, balance, and longevity. Her story is a powerful reminder that the true victory in triathlon is understanding yourself enough to keep going, even when the race gets tough. In this episode, Paula opens up about her recent injuries—glute tears, knee issues, and the wisdom she's gained from managing setbacks—highlighting her shift towards a smarter, more sustainable training mindset. You'll discover how her focus on consistent running, strategic race selection, and mental fortitude has kept her competitive for over 20 years. We break down her experience training for her first Ironman at Lake Placid, what makes the Placid course unique, and the importance of problem-solving and adaptability on race day. Paula also shares her thoughts on the increasing caliber of female competition, the myths about the "fittest" athlete winning, and why mental resilience often trumps raw speed in the sport's most grueling moments. She discusses her motivation for tackling Ironman distances despite a busy life—balancing family, podcasting, and sponsorships—and how her broader perspective helps her keep the fire alive. Whether you're an aspiring pro or a seasoned athlete, Paula's insights into longevity, recovery, and mental toughness offer invaluable lessons for navigating the sport's demands without sacrificing your love for the race. This candid conversation provides a behind-the-scenes look at an athlete who continuously redefines what it means to compete at the highest level—proof that success isn't just about results, but about resilience and evolving with the sport. Perfect for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of sustainable training, mental resilience, and staying motivated through the years. A doctor said he needed knee surgery. He said no. Robert Norris is 22 years old, has Down syndrome, and completes Ironman triathlons without a guide. He taught himself to ride a bike, swam with Navy SEALs in the Hudson River, ran the Boston Marathon through bloody blisters, and trains daily with a volume most able-bodied athletes never touch: 80-mile bike rides, 10-mile runs, 2100-yard swims.   Joe De Sena sits down with Robert and his mother, Wanda, a retired Navy veteran, to unpack how a slipped kneecap became a turning point, why Robert refuses to quit under any condition, and what happens when a young man with an extra chromosome decides the hard way is the only way. This episode delivers a direct challenge: if Robert Norris can show up every single day without excuses, what is stopping you?   Things You Will Learn: Why a physical setback can become the trigger for a higher standard instead of a retreat. The structure behind a non-negotiable daily routine that eliminates the need for motivation. What consistent action proves to the people who expect you to stop.   Tools & Frameworks Covered: Setback-to-Standard Conversion: Use injury or adversity as the catalyst for a higher training commitment, not a reason to stop. Non-Negotiable Daily Structure: Wake time, bedtime, training order, and nutrition are locked in. Remove decision fatigue. Execute the plan. Progressive Proof of Capability: Start with one mile. Then eighteen. Then a hundred. Let results silence doubt.   If this episode moved you, do not just listen. Do something about it. Sign up. Show up. Do the work. Spartan.com. No more excuses.   Robert Norris is a Guinness World Record–holding endurance athlete who redefined limits by becoming the first athlete with Down syndrome to complete a full Ironman triathlon independently, setting the fastest time in his category. His journey represents relentless discipline, the breaking of perceived limitations, and the building of an unshakable mindset through years of preparation and adversity.   Connect to Robert: Website: https://www.robertnorrismanofiron.com/about  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/robertnorrismanofiron/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/robert.norris.432406/ YouTube: http://youtube.com/@GETFITWIthRobert-21 ꚠ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@robertnorrismanofiron?   We gave you the tools, now use them during your next SPARTAN RACE! Rajiv Pant thinks of AI as an Iron Man suit for the mind. Something you put on. That you fuse with. That takes you to greater heights — but could also make you incredibly dizzy and be very dangerous if you, the human, don't stay in control of it.Rajiv sees successful collaboration with AI as a “synthesis.” And to that end, he's building a series of skills and methodologies for synthesis engineering, coding, writing and project management. In this episode, Rajiv explains why synthesis engineering is a kind of middle ground between vibe coding and agentic engineering. It's a method for human-AI collaboration that helps builders go faster while not falling into the trap of letting AI do the things we humans ought to own. i.e. The architecture. The judgment. The thinking and learning. Rajiv is an engineering and product leader with deep experience in media. He's held senior roles at the Wall Street Journal, Hearst, and the New York Times (where he and I first met). Today he's the president of Flatiron Software. Rajiv has open-sourced all of his Synthesis methodologies and he and I also discuss why open source is so important as we increasingly turn to AI to sharpen our thinking. Can we really trust a system we don't understand? Would Tony Stark have trusted his suit if he didn't know how it was built? Chapters:(00:00) - Iron Man suit for the mind (02:11) - What goes wrong when you vibe code into production (04:20) - What synthesis coding looks like hands on keyboard (05:40) - What AI code slop looks like (08:30) - The unexpected joy of managing a team of agents (11:00) - Using AI as a thinking partner without outsourcing your thinking (15:30) - How a non-programmer built a better version of his own software (18:15) - Is your use of AI making you dumber? Oceano Dunes at Pismo Beach is the only place in California where you can legally drive on the beach. For over 25 years, Jim Suty and Friends of Oceana Dunes have been fighting to keep it that way. Jimmy and Tyler sit down with Jim to talk about what’s happening now — and what’s been happening for a long time. This one covers a lot of ground. Jim walks through the history of the snowy plover fight that started around 2001, the dust pollution battle that took center stage around 2019–2020, and the new issue that’s surfaced after all of that: SVR (the State Vehicular Recreation Area that manages the dunes) never completed the Incidental Take Permit for the snowy plover that should have been finalized as part of the original mitigation. The ITP is the document that allows recreation to continue in habitat where an endangered species is present, provided land managers mitigate impact to acceptable levels. Without it, the dunes are exposed. And because SVR was always reacting to the next crisis — the next budget cut, the next complaint from the Coastal Commission, the next thing coming down from the state level — the ITP kept getting pushed down the priority list until it didn’t get done. Jimmy and Tyler dig into why this keeps happening — turnover in land manager leadership, no consistent long-term relationships with the local OHV community, a reactive management culture that never gets ahead of anything. The parallels to what Jimmy and Tyler see with El Dorado National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, and the Rubicon are everywhere. The dust fight is a good-news story worth hearing in full. During COVID, when the dunes were closed and no OHVs were running, Friends of Oceana Dunes commissioned studies that showed the dust particulate in the town of Oceano was not being caused by OHV activity on the dunes. The science that the APCD and the Coastal Commission had been using to justify closures and restrictions was wrong. Friends of Oceana Dunes fought it in court, won, and the APCD was ruled to have been incorrect — with money that had been spent on dust mitigation going back toward recreational purposes. Tyler and Jimmy hold this up as exactly what litigation looks like when it works. On where the money needs to come from: Tyler makes the argument that $20 to a litigation organization like Friends of Oceana Dunes or Blue Ribbon Coalition does more long-term work than $20 to a trail maintenance volunteer fund. Both matter. But if you can only pick one, he argues the scale is in favor of litigation. The numbers are striking — Jim mentions that 1.5 to 2.5 million people visit Oceana Dunes per year. If every one of them gave a quarter, Friends of Oceana Dunes would have a $500K–$750K operating budget. That’s how underfunded these organizations are relative to the scale of the impact they’re having. Also in this episode: the new California OHV certification bill being pushed by KORVA (which has passed its first stages of legislation), the “two knuckleheads” problem and why bad actors in OHV get more press than bad actors in every other outdoor recreation category, why the Coastal Commission tried to stop Friends of Oceana Dunes from picking up trash on the beach, the OHV super PAC joke that maybe wasn’t entirely a joke, and Jimmy’s personal note about his college memories at Pismo. Closing call to action: time, talent, or treasures. Find your carrot, find the organization working on it, and put something toward it. **Find Friends of Oceana Dunes:** Website: https://www.oceanodunes.org/Donate Today: https://www.paypal.com/donate?token=XpwAwnzV8dxTRn3lCzpU2W8PtfcpioHxik3tAvbkFMfOIHbNvXjXH22QILbpr6ixt8Xs15fStatskAR3Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/friendsofoceanodunes/Desert Fest: https://www.oceanodunes.org/2025/09/24/march-2026-dezertfest/ SnailTrail4x4 Discord: https://discord.gg/yFyFFkQbuyCome hang out with us on the SnailTrail4x4 Discord — it’s the easiest way to connect with Tyler and Jimmy directly, chat with fellow offroad enthusiasts, and get first access to Group Buys and Treasure Hunt token drops. Architectural Friction: Engineering Corporate Innovation Through Productive Discomfort with Anthony ReevesIn a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge sat down with Anthony Reeves, an elite international keynote speaker, growth consultant, and author of Eat the Donkey, to dismantle the hidden operational liabilities of corporate complacency. Anthony, whose background spans intense ultra-endurance sports like Ultraman to driving high-stakes team strategy within Amazon's leadership ecosystem, argues that convenience is the ultimate enemy of enterprise scale. This conversation serves as an essential manual for middle-market founders and executive teams looking to build high-performance cultures, showing how institutionalizing deliberate operational friction can shield an organization from stagnation and unlock sustainable corporate growth. The Strategy of Stretch: Structuring Vulnerability and Governance for Enterprise ScaleThe primary threat to long-term market authority is rarely an external competitor, but rather an internal slide into institutional comfort and short-term operational thinking. Anthony Reeves explains that when a business attempts to over-engineer convenience and eliminate all administrative friction, it naturally dulls the creative drive and risk-taking capacity of its workforce. Elite multinational enterprises—such as Amazon, Airbnb, and LVMH—combat this stagnation by intentionally embedding productive discomfort directly into their talent metrics and core performance reviews. Instead of evaluating managers solely on safe, predictable output, these organizations systematically reward teams that push boundaries and test unproven hypotheses. When a company normalizes failure as a key data point in the innovation pipeline, it strips away the perfection paralysis that stalls product development, transforming calculated risk from an existential threat into a highly predictable revenue driver. To sustain this high-yield operational velocity without causing employee burnout or talent attrition, leadership must establish a culture anchored in absolute transparency and foundational alignment. When structural disruptions inevitably occur, companies often make the mistake of deploying sanitized, risk-averse public relations scripts that destroy trust with both clients and internal stakeholders. True market differentiation is achieved when executives possess the psychological safety to publicly own corporate mistakes, a practice modeled directly by Amazon's leadership principles. By treating unexpected errors as transparent opportunities for optimization, leaders build deep organizational resilience. This vulnerability must be paired with an unyielding commitment to the enterprise's "foundational focus"—the core mission and values that define the brand—ensuring that the business aggressively rejects short-term, trend-chasing distractions that do not map to its long-term enterprise value.Transitioning an organization out of complacency requires a corporate architect who can precisely differentiate between productive growth discomfort and destructive operational chaos. Through specialized consulting frameworks and strategic keynote sessions, Anthony assists leadership teams in auditing their current workflows to identify where compliance has replaced creativity. This systems-driven alignment demands that corporate metrics shift toward tracking long-term structural milestones rather than immediate quarterly micro-gains. By designing clear accountability guardrails and providing continuous executive development, founders can safely guide their teams through the discomfort of rapid market shifts. Ultimately, market dominance belongs to the enterprises that treat stress not as a crisis to be managed, but as the primary catalyst required to scale impact and maintain premium authority across their entire industry vertical.About Anthony ReevesAnthony Reeves is a globally recognized keynote speaker, growth consultant, and the author of Eat the Donkey. Drawing from an extraordinary background in world-class ultra-endurance sports—including completing Ultraman and Ironman competitions—and extensive leadership experience within Amazon, Anthony specializes in the mechanics of human and corporate optimization. He serves as a trusted advisor to executives, helping them design high-accountability workplace cultures that embrace strategic challenge to drive breakthrough innovation.About anthonyreeves.coanthonyreeves.co is the primary digital advisory hub for Anthony Reeves's global consulting and speaking practice. The platform provides mid-market corporations, enterprise leaders, and event organizers with direct access to custom corporate training modules, organizational alignment workshops, and leadership development resources. Through data-driven diagnostics and culture-shifting frameworks, anthonyreeves.co equips modern executive teams with the systems engineering required to reject mediocrity and manage complex operational scale.Links Mentioned in This EpisodeAnthony Reeves Official Website: anthonyreeves.coAnthony Reeves on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/anthonyreevesKey Episode HighlightsThe Complacency Trap: Why over-engineering comfort within corporate processes dulls innovation and introduces long-term vulnerability into your business.Institutionalizing Discomfort: Emulating Amazon's framework of rewarding employees based on their willingness to invent and take risks rather than just executing safe results. The Power of Foundational Focus: Examining how brands like Starbucks and Southwest Airlines maintain long-term market control by ruthlessly saying no to trend-chasing distractions. The ROI of Executive Vulnerability: Building intense customer and employee loyalty by openly owning corporate mistakes instead of relying on sanitized corporate scripts.Productive vs. Destructive Friction: Training management tiers to balance intense structural challenges with robust psychological safety guardrails.ConclusionThe conversation with Anthony Reeves highlights that corporate excellence is an intentional architecture built on the edge of the comfort zone. By deploying rigorous performance governance, fiercely protecting the organization's core mission, and treating failure as a mandatory component of growth, business leaders can transform a stagnant operation into an agile, self-sustaining corporate asset.More from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur

If you are focusing on improving your FatMax in 2026, you're likely wasting time and money. Not only is fat a more expensive substrate to burn than carbohydrate (you get less energy for the same amount of oxygen by oxidising fat), but the Fatmax number you see in your lab report is mostly noise and very little signal.  In today's episode of That Triathlon Show I'll explain exactly why that is, but I'll also give you a tool to evaluate any test or measure that you might (or might not) want to be tracking, from Time Trials to VO2max, HRV and various biomarkers like ferritin and testosterone.  HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS:  What is Fatmax and Maximal Rate of Fat Oxidation?  How reliable is Fatmax testing?  How to measure the noise of a test using the Coefficient of Variation (CV) How to calculate the Smallest Detectable Change (SDC) of any test or measure Why the SDC of Fatmax is the equivalent of you having to go from 300 to 384W for your 20-minute power to be able to say that this was real improvement and not just noise (!!)  CVs and CV ranges for common tests and measures used in triathlon, Ironman and other endurance sports, including Time Trials, Time To Exhaustion, VO2max, lactate and ventilatory thresholds, economy and gross efficiency, lactate concentration, Critical Power and W', HRV, ferritin, testosterone, TSH and more Why carbohydrate is a 7% more efficient energy substrate than fat, and why you should be oxidising carbs in your next Ironman.  DETAILED EPISODE SHOWNOTES:  We have detailed shownotes for all of our episodes.       ABOUT AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR April 27, 2018 | Theatrical Release CAST & CREW OF AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Directors: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo Writers: Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, Stan Lee Cast: Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man Chris Hemsworth as Thor Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow Don Cheadle as James Rhodes/War Machine Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther Zoe Saldaña as Gamora Karen Gillan as Nebula Tom Hiddleston as Loki Paul Bettany as Vision Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS So, they get right to it. Bad boy Thanos gets an infinity stone, the Power Stone. His play is to get all six Infinity Stones and wipe out half of all life in the universe.  His first stop is the ship carrying the surviving people of Asgard. Thanos easily overwhelms the remaining Asgardians, beats up Hulk, and steals the Space Stone from Loki's Tesseract. He then kills Loki. Thanos then destroys the ship and continues his hunt. Edris Elba helps make sure that Hulk returns to earth, where he crashes through the New York Sanctum. Back as Bruce, He warns Doctor Stephen Strange and Wong that Thanos is coming.  Tony Stark joins the conversation. Before he can call Steve Rogers to get the band back together, they attack the city to claim the Time Stone from Strange. Spider-Man is pulled into the chaos, and after they captures Strange aboard his spaceship, Stark and Peter Parker secretly hitch a ride into space to rescue him while Wong remains behind to defend the Sanctum. Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy answer a distress signal and save Thor floating in space. They agree they need to work together to stop Thanos. But they're too late. Thanos already possesses the Reality Stone and uses its power to manipulate everything around them. He captures Gamora after learning she knows the location of the Soul Stone. Desperate to save her adopted sister Nebula from torture, Gamora tells him where the stone is .  When they get there, the keeper of the Soul Stone, one Red Skull, reveals the price required to obtain it: the sacrifice of someone truly loved. In one of the film's most tragic moments, Thanos throws Gamora to her death, earning the Soul Stone. Vision and Wanda are ambushed in Scotland by Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive, who attempt to rip the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead. Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon arrive just in time to save them, bringing the wounded Vision back to the Avengers Compound. Vision urges Wanda to destroy the Mind Stone and kill him if necessary to stop Thanos, but she cannot bring herself to do it. Instead, the team heads to Wakanda, believing Shuri may be able to safely remove the stone without sacrificing Vision's life. Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange end up on Titan and come face to face with Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis and they realize they're in the same team.  Using the Time Stone, Strange studies millions of possible futures and discovers only one path where they succeed. Together they execute an elaborate plan to restrain Thanos and remove the Infinity Gauntlet. For a moment, it almost works—until Nebula reveals that Gamora is dead. Overcome with grief and rage, Star-Lord attacks Thanos, ruining the team's hold on him. Thanos breaks free, defeats everyone, and nearly kills Iron Man. To save Tony's life, Doctor Strange willingly surrenders the Time Stone, despite knowing how dangerous it is. In Wakanda, the Avengers prepare for an all-out invasion from Thanos's army. Bruce Banner, unable to transform into Hulk, enters battle wearing the Hulkbuster armor. The tide finally turns when Thor arrives in spectacular fashion alongside Rocket and Groot, tearing through Thanos's army with his fresh new hammer/ax combo, Stormbreaker. Despite their efforts, Thanos himself eventually reaches Vision. Wanda heartbreakingly destroys the Mind Stone—and Vision with it—just before Thanos can claim it. But using the Time Stone, Thanos reverses time, restores Vision briefly to life, and violently tears the stone from his forehead, killing him again. With all six Infinity Stones finally united, the Infinity Gauntlet is complete. Thor attacks and buries Stormbreaker deep into Thanos's chest, but Thanos coldly tells him he “should have gone for the head.” He snaps his fingers and vanishes. Across the universe, half of all life immediately turns to dust. Bucky Barnes, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Drax, and Mantis all fade away. On Earth, Nick Fury manages to send a desperate signal from a mysterious pager moments before he too disappears. The survivors are left shattered and defeated. Tony Stark and Nebula are stranded on Titan. The remaining Avengers stand in stunned silence in Wakanda. And somewhere far away, Thanos sits alone on a quiet planet, watching the sunrise over a universe he believes he has finally “saved.” Watch the show on Youtube - www.deckthehallmark.com/youtubeInterested in advertising on the show?
