If you're coming into triathlon from running or cycling, you've probably assumed swimming works the same way:The more you swim, the faster you get.Nope! In this episode of our Six Months to Ironman series, Coach Rob explains why most age-group triathletes are not fitness-limited in the water, they're technique-limited… and why that's actually good news, because it means you can make big gains without adding endless extra swim volume. This episode is aimed at the adult-onset swimmer: the busy Ironman or 70.3 athlete who feels like their aerobic fitness from the bike & run doesn't translate in the pool, and how to fix that.We cover:Why swimming is more analogous to gold or tennis than running or bikingThe “more swimming” trap that keeps slower swimmers stuck and embeds bad habitsA useful benchmark: why ~7:00 per 400m is often the point where technique becomes the biggest leverHow to build endurance without letting fatigue wreck your stroke How to identify your single biggest limiter with simple cuesThe order to fix your swim: breathing → balance → propulsionSimple, high-impact drills including:Sink-downs + “bubble” exhale for breathingFist drill for catch and feel of the waterThe “Waltz / Unco drill” to connect rotation, hips, and propulsionThis episode will help swimming stop being the IRONMAN discipline you dread, and help turn it into one of your main strengths in a matter of months!* * * * * * *SPONSORS* * * * * * * *Thinking about your first Ironman or 70.3 in 2026? For decades, fitness culture has tended to break people into two categories: you're either a strength guy or an endurance guy. You lift heavy or run far — but not both. But my guest today says you don't have to choose; you can excel at both modalities and be ready for anything.Alex Viada is a coach, a physiologist, and the author of The Hybrid Athlete. He's a powerlifter who's also completed Ironman triathlons, and he's deadlifted 700 pounds and run an ultramarathon in the same week. Even if your goals are much more modest — you'd like to, say, set some weightlifting PRs in the gym and be able to run a decent 5k — Alex's training philosophy can help you combine lifting and endurance in a smart, sustainable way that builds true all-around fitness. In our conversation, Alex explains how to combine training for strength with distance sports like running or cycling, how to test your progress, how to recognize and avoid the two kinds of fatigue, and why becoming a hybrid athlete will help you live more adventurously — and more capably.Resources Related to the PodcastAlex's previous appearance on the AoM podcast: Episode #860: Get Fit, Not Fried — The Benefits of Zone 2 CardioAoM Article: A Guide to the Biggest Thing Missing From Your Fitness Routine — Zone 2 TrainingAoM Podcast #970: The Misconceptions of HIIT (And the Role It Can Play in Your Fitness Routine)AoM Podcast #787: Run Like a Pro (Even If You're Slow)AoM Podcast #777: Becoming a Hybrid AthleteConnect With Alex ViadaComplete Human PerformanceAlex on IGSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Quitting isn't the real danger. The real danger is chasing a goal you don't actually want. Show Notes In this episode of Shark Theory, Baylor shares a candid realization from his Ironman training that sparked a deeper conversation about goals, passion, and honesty with yourself. While training for an upcoming Ironman race in March, Baylor found himself asking a simple but uncomfortable question. Why am I doing this race? The answer surprised him. There was no emotional connection. No deeper meaning. It was simply the first Ironman offered in Dallas, and he signed up caught up in the excitement. That moment led to a powerful insight. The worst thing is not giving up on a goal. The worst thing is continuing to pursue a goal you are not passionate about. Baylor breaks down why many people quit their goals early in the year. Not because they are lazy or undisciplined, but because the goal itself never belonged to them. It was chosen for hype, social validation, or momentum, not purpose. He walks listeners through the key questions everyone must ask when evaluating a goal. Why did I choose this? Who am I doing it for? What connects me to it? And will this goal actually transform me? Using his own experience, Baylor explains why it is okay to pivot when you have better information. Goals should align with the direction you are heading, not the person you were months ago. Growth changes priorities, and adjusting goals is not failure. It is clarity. The episode closes with a meaningful shift. Instead of forcing himself to pursue a March race he felt disconnected from, Baylor rediscovered the race that originally inspired his endurance journey years ago. By moving the goal to September and reconnecting it to purpose, the goal came back to life. This episode is a reminder that passion fuels perseverance. Discipline can only carry you so far. Meaning carries you the rest of the way. What You'll Learn in This Episode • Why pursuing the wrong goal is worse than quitting • How to identify goals driven by hype instead of purpose • The importance of emotional connection in long-term goals • When and how to pivot without giving up • Why growth often requires reassessing old goals • How meaning fuels consistency when motivation fades Featured Quote "It's not okay to quit on your goals, but it is okay to pivot when the goal no longer fits who you are becoming." If a goal feels heavy, empty, or disconnected, pause and ask why. Reattach meaning, shift the timeline, or realign the goal. Passion is not optional. It is the fuel.

All Home Care Matters and our host, Lance A. Slatton were honored to welcome Daniel Hight as guest to the show. About Daniel Hight, Founder of More Than Our Story: Daniel started More Than Our Story shortly after receiving a diagnosis of an incurable brain cancer. Daniel's mission is to inspire by profiling remarkable people and sharing their stories, helping others realize they're never alone in their struggles. Daniel also seeks to break down the stigma surrounding important topics and promote ways for people to lead happier, healthier lives. Daniel has also found inner strength and calm after his diagnosis by challenging his body and mind through endurance sports, including triathlons (countless half IRONMAN and one full IRONMAN) and long-distance open-water swimming. Next year, Daniel will be tackling his most formidable challenges to date: his first ultramarathon (100km) and a marathon swim (10km). About More Than Our Story: Welcome to More Than Our Story, where our mission is simple: To inspire others to greatness through sharing stories of inner strength and resilience. We are a health-focused lifestyle website started to give back and inspire others through sharing people's stories. Knowing our stories are not unique makes us stronger, creates a sense of community, and makes all the difference. We also strive to promote a healthy lifestyle and to share how we can better take care of ourselves and lead healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. Not all of our profiles highlight individuals with incurable diseases or remarkable achievements; it's what they stand for and who they are that inspires, including cancer survivors, MS warriors, organ donors, and recipients, among others. The last part of our story is about giving back because it's our duty to look out for each other. With every purchase on our website, we donate a set amount per item to one of our featured causes.

Fitz Koehler sits down with Earl Barnes, a full-duty firefighter who lost his lower leg in a motorcycle crash—and somehow came back stronger, faster, and funnier. Earl walks through the long road of surgeries, evolving prosthetic technology, and learning to train and race with a blade, all while returning to the firehouse and chasing Ironman finish lines. What makes this conversation special isn't just the comeback—it's Earl's upbeat attitude and sharp sense of humor. He breaks down the practical realities of prosthetics, life on the job, and swim-bike-run logistics, while sharing the mindset and communication skills that helped him push through setbacks without losing his joy. Inspiring, honest, and unexpectedly fun—this episode proves resilience pairs best with perspective.

Most Ironman athletes don't fail in the marathon because they're bad runners. They fail because they misunderstand what the Ironman run actually is.In this episode of our Six Months to Ironman series, Coach Rob breaks down exactly how to train to run well at the end of an Ironman, based on 15+ years of IRONMAN coaching experience and hundreds, if not thousands of successful first-time finishers. This is not about getting faster at 5K or 10K. It's about fatigue resistance, durability, and delivering a strong marathon after a long swim and bike.In this episode, you'll learn:Why Ironman running is endurance-limited, not speed-limitedWhy great standalone runners often struggle badly off the bikeThe single biggest mistake age-groupers make with long runsWhy traditional “Sunday long runs” can sabotage your Ironman buildHow the 9 / 1 run-walk strategy improves performance (and isn't a beginner tactic)How to pace your long runs properly using easy pace, not marathon paceWhy running slower in training actually leads to a faster Ironman marathonHow to structure your week so run training doesn't wreck your bike and recoveryThe mindset shift that allows you to run strongly in the final 10K while others fall apartIf your goal is to finish your Ironman marathon feeling strong, controlled, and still running while the field around you is reduced to walking, this episode will completely change how you view run training.* * * * * * *SPONSORS* * * * * * * *Thinking about your first Ironman or 70.3 in 2026? Hang on to your seats, familia! A super-size 2 hour episode breaking down our top 10 of Marvel Legends in 2025...unfiltered!!!!
As the year comes to a close, I wanted to do something a little different. In this New Year's Special, I'm counting down my personal Top 10 MCU solo movies — the films that defined the franchise for me, shaped these characters, and still hit every time I revisit them. This isn't about rankings for the sake of ranking. It's about impact, origin stories, and the movies that helped build the MCU into what it is today. From Iron Man to Doctor Strange, from grounded beginnings to cosmic adventures, this episode is a reflection on why these stories mattered — and why they still do. Whether you agree with my list or not, I hope this feels like a celebration of the MCU, the journey so far, and everything still ahead.
Ali Day is one of the world's top Ironman athletes - but this isn't about medals. It's about the mindset, habits, and grit that push humans past their limits. Ali breaks down the people who shaped him, the mental tools that rewired his approach, and the moments that tested him like never before.Behind the scenes, he reveals the visualisation and hypnosis tools that changed everything—imagining entire races in brutal detail, scripting every move, and rehearsing every scenario in his mind—alongside the recovery strategies, growth lessons, and life insights that stretch far beyond sport.4:45 Role models, belonging, and realising heroes are human 7:05 Curiosity, early psychology work, and the 10-minute shift 11:20 Mental skills, imagery, and gaining an edge early 18:15 Going against the grain and leaning on the right support 20:20 Rock bottom, injury, and rebuilding stronger 27:00 Unlearning old identities and upgrading information 35:55 Why Ironman is a team sport — when to follow, when to lead 39:00 The unseen work and treating performance like a job 46:45 Recovery as a priority and tracking the data 50:15 Life beyond Ironman and approaching a new career like a race 57:10 The next decade, and reflecting on the journey 1:02:15 Psychologist Lisa's reflectionsFollow Ali on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alastairday/?hl=enFind out more about ACTV Strength Co: https://actvstrengthco.com/ Use Code "PQPODCAST10" to get 10% off your Lumo Coffee order:https://lumocoffee.com/ Interested in sharing your story? I've read The Road Unpaved and can tell you I was deeply moved and awestruck by Risa's struggles to overcome the strains of a grueling 1000+ mile bike ride along the U.S. Pacific Coast while contending with her tumor and acromegaly. If you're interested in stories about people engaging in their deepest will power to triumph over extreme challenges, then I highly urge you to check out The Road Unpaved.

I'm thrilled to share some exciting insights from our latest podcast episode, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Sam Gibson, the visionary founder and CEO of Hadron Energy. Sam's pioneering work in developing 10-megawatt micro reactors is set to revolutionize the energy landscape, particularly for data centers, industrial applications, and national security. Here's a sneak peek into our conversation:Key Takeaways from the Episode:Sam's Journey into Nuclear Energy:Inspired by his father's work and a childhood fascination with Iron Man 2, Sam's passion for mechanical engineering and clean energy led him to nuclear power.Despite being one of the youngest executives in the field, Sam's fresh perspective is driving innovation in an industry traditionally dominated by older generations. The Vision for Micro Reactors:Hadron Energy is bridging a significant market gap by developing scalable, factory-fabricated 10-megawatt light water micro reactors. These reactors are designed to be efficient, safe, and commercially viable, leveraging proven technology used in existing U.S. reactors.Overcoming Challenges:Sam's journey wasn't easy—starting solo, he traveled cross-country to pitch his concept, facing skepticism and regulatory hurdles.Persistence paid off, and now Hadron Energy is gaining traction with strong interest from data centers, industrial operators, and government entities.Technology and Market Differentiation:Hadron's micro reactors offer a modular, scalable solution, reducing risks and costs associated with traditional large nuclear plants. This approach is particularly attractive to data centers and industrial operators needing reliable, carbon-free baseload power.Demand Drivers:The growing energy needs of data centers, driven by AI infrastructure, and the push for decarbonization in various sectors are fueling demand for Hadron's reactors.National security considerations also underscore the strategic importance of reliable baseload power.Policy and National Security:Favorable policies, like the ADVANCE Act, aim to triple U.S. nuclear capacity by 2050, aligning government incentives with industry goals.Initiatives like Project Janus highlight the critical role of micro reactors in national security.Leadership and Company Culture:Sam's leadership style focuses on servant leadership, fostering a collaborative environment where the best ideas win.Hadron's culture prioritizes safety, technical excellence, and an engineering-first approach, essential for their deep tech focus.Advice for Founders and Investors:Sam advises aspiring founders to identify a unique value proposition and commit to navigating complex regulatory landscapes. For investors, understanding the technical and regulatory nuances of nuclear technology is crucial for long-term, predictable investments.Looking Ahead:Sam envisions Hadron Energy operating a manufacturing facility producing mass-manufactured micro reactors, with licenses for deployment in the U.S. and internationally. The company aims to significantly contribute to a larger nuclear industry, meeting the growing demand for clean, reliable energy. Why You Should ListenSend us a textConnect with Kip on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/kipknippel/Watch Bite-Sized Clips on YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/@capitalistculture/shorts

Most people see Anna Sitar as a creator. Fewer people know she's quietly stacking endurance goals, like marathons, long training blocks, and now Ironman-level ambitions, to show what happens when you commit to something long enough for it to change how you think, work and live. Anna is a content creator and influencer known for her lifestyle vlogs, relatable content and warm and engaging personality. Her dynamic “I Don't Want It” TikTok series has propelled her to incredible media heights; she has over 11 million followers on TikTik and over 1.5 million on Instagram.Anna is a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate from Western Michigan University. She moved to Los Angeles in 2019 to pursue her master's, and it ultimately fueled her career as a content creator. Anna is the founder and creator of the A N X N A clothing brand, and has worked with companies like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Delta, Amazon and Google. She is also slowly building up her endurance athlete profile these past few years: she recently completed the New York City Marathon after running the Honolulu Marathon in 2024. According to recent activity, she is training for an ironman, working to become a more well-rounded long distance athlete. Because of that, Anna's story is a reminder that running doesn't have to be about times or podiums to be meaningful. Sometimes it's just a place to test who you're becoming next.Tap into the Anna Sitar Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! This week on Moving Panels, Laramy Wells is joined by Nicholas Pepin to break down Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, one of Marvel's most emotionally grounded and visually striking origin stories. We talk about Shang-Chi's comic book roots, the movie's focus on family, legacy, and identity, and why Tony Leung's Wenwu stands as one of the MCU's best villains. The conversation also dives into the Mandarin mythology, how Shang-Chi smartly course-corrects the controversial Iron Man 3 twist, and why bringing Trevor Slattery back was the funniest and most effective way to fix it.Plus, we discuss the evolution of the Ten Rings from the comics to the MCU, highlight standout performances and action sequences, and decide whether Shang-Chi earns a Bag it, Stack it, or Trade it.

In this powerful conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with digital wellbeing expert and endurance athlete Colin Corby to explore how our relationship with technology is quietly reshaping our health, focus, and sense of connection. Colin shares his extraordinary journey from tech-industry burnout to four Ironman triathlons, open-water distance swims, and ultimately building The Digital Detox Coach to help people reclaim time, energy, and clarity. We explore why so many of us wake up and reach for our phones, the subtle ways multitasking drains our cognitive power, how online “noise” crowds out creativity, and why younger generations struggle with real-life communication. Colin introduces the concept of becoming a business athlete — someone who treats recovery, mindset, focus, and boundaries as seriously as physical training. He breaks down signs you may need a digital reset, how habits form, the dangers of constant notifications, and why tech isn't the enemy — our lack of balance is.If you've ever felt overwhelmed, distracted, or too “plugged in,” this episode offers a grounded, hopeful roadmap to healthier digital living.⭐ Top 3 Highlights
