Mika Noodt is ranked second in the T100 World Tour standings (with two races to go), has four T100 podiums so far in 2025, and has multiple Ironman 70.3 and Challenge Family wins and podiums on his resume. In this interview we discuss Mika's training in great detail, get into the specific dynamics of racing in T100 races, and we even discuss how Mika might have ended up being a Formula 1 driver rather than a triathlete if circumstances had allowed.HIGHLIGHTS AND KEY TOPICS: How Mika got into triathlonA deep-dive into Mika's training, including key swimming, cycling and running sessionsHis unconventional (you might say epic!) strength training blocksA breakdown of a full week of triathlon training with Mika - from the lead-up to T100 Wollongong (where he finished 2nd)The dynamics of racing on the T100 World Tour - what is the swim, bike and run like, and how does it compare to Ironman 70.3 races? The pacing strategy Mika uses to maximise his performance in T100 racesMika's decision to focus exclusively on the T100 series in 2025A full Ironman in Mika's future?Listener questions...and more!DETAILED EPISODE SHOWNOTES: We have detailed shownotes for all of our episodes. The shownotes are basically the podcast episode in written form, that you can read in 5-10 minutes. They are not transcriptions, but they are also not just surface-level overviews. They provide detailed insights and timestamps for each episode, and are great especially for later review, after you've already listened to an episode. Naturally, as great as they are, they do not cover absolutely everything in as great detail as we can do in a 45-90 minute podcast episode. And of course, Jelle and Mika are in a tight battle at the top of the T100 standings.Craig Kirkwood | EP#421 - Craig was until the end of the 2024 season the very longstanding coach of Hayden Wilde, one of Mika's main rivals in the T100 series. What happens when addiction talks back—and you answer? Dr. Larry Smith, author of Johnnie and Me: Facing the Voice of Alcohol Within, shares how he personified alcohol as “Johnnie,” survived decades of trauma and dependency, and built a daily plan that's kept him sober since 1999. He also previews his forthcoming novel 2084: The Neuroxone Conspiracy, a medical-thriller riff on Big Pharma, recovery, and personal freedom—making this a raw, hopeful, and deeply human conversation worth hearing. Sponsored by Harford County Living Guest Bio: Dr. Larry Smith is a Canadian chiropractor, author, and recovery advocate who has been sober since September 22, 1999. His memoir Johnnie and Me personifies alcohol as “Johnnie,” the voice that misled him from age 11 until recovery, while his earlier book Embracing the Journey of Recovery opened doors for public speaking and community outreach. A former Ironman triathlete, Larry now writes, speaks, and mentors others in long-term recovery; his upcoming medical-thriller, 2084: The Neuroxone Conspiracy, explores addiction, industry, and choice. Main Topics: · Personifying addiction as “Johnnie” and why naming the voice matters· First drunk at age 11; secrecy, trauma, and trust· Relapse risk and the “daily plan” for long-term recovery (journaling, meditation, meals, exercise, connection, honest feedback)· Meetings and connection: why frequency can change, but community matters· Alcohol plus pills (opiates/benzos): compounding risks and lucky survival· 12 Steps in plain language and alternatives beyond 12-step frameworks· Faith, surrender, and releasing attachment to outcomes· Writing as healing; moving from hiding to radical honesty· Johnnie and Me and Embracing the Journey of Recovery: messages of hope· Preview of 2084: The Neuroxone Conspiracy—a dystopian medical-thriller about recovery, pharma, and mandated treatments Resources mentioned: · Books by guest:· Johnnie and Me: Facing the Voice of Alcohol Within (memoir)· Embracing the Journey oSend us a texthttps://harfordcountyhealth.comSupport the showRate & Review on Apple Podcasts Follow the Conversations with Rich Bennett podcast on Social Media:Facebook – Conversations with Rich Bennett Facebook Group (Join the conversation) – Conversations with Rich Bennett podcast group | FacebookTwitter – Conversations with Rich Bennett Instagram – @conversationswithrichbennettTikTok – CWRB (@conversationsrichbennett) | TikTok Sponsors, Affiliates, and ways we pay the bills:Hosted on BuzzsproutSquadCast Subscribe by Email
This week on FITTER Radio we welcome Kelly O'Mara Head of Content and Sports Reporter for Feisty Media. The new IRONMAN Kona qualification algorithm is significantly affecting female athletes. While early projections suggested a 30-40% representation of women at the World Championships, initial data from races shows this is not the case. In the 'performance pool' an overwhelming majority have gone to men (around 95%), with only about 5% going to women in the initial races analyzed. In some events, like IRONMAN California, only one performance slot was awarded to a woman. In this conversation, Kelly shares her history in triathlon and sports journalism, highlighting the evolution of women's sports and the challenges faced in media representation. She shares insights from the recent Kona race, the impact of the new qualification system on female participation and the implications of IRONMAN's business model. We review the racing from the Noosa Triathlon at the weekend plus Braden Currie announces his retirement. Today, I am joined by author Joe Gagnon. Joe is driven by a simple mission: helping people realize they are capable of far more than they believe is possible. Over the years, he has led six companies as CEO, coached top performers, and pushed himself to physical and mental extremes—completing six Ironman races, running 100-mile ultramarathons, finishing Six marathons on Six continents in Six days, and completing the legendary Badwater 135 ultramarathon through Death Valley. As CEO of Raynmaker, he leads the development of an AI-powered sales platform designed to help small businesses grow smarter and faster. As a high-performance coach, he partners with bold, ambitious leaders to break through their self-imposed limits and lead lives filled with purpose and greater impact.Joe's life and his second book, *Living Intentionally*, are rooted in the belief that growth happens at the edge. It's in the uncomfortable, uncertain, and transformational moments that we find out who we truly are. The principles of grit, grace, and groundedness guide every step he takes. Whether he's building a company, mentoring a founder, or speaking on stage, his goal remains the same: to inspire others to live intentionally by design, not by chance. We talk a lot about finding our own way in life and how we do that with meaning, intention, and love. In this episode we finally got to discuss our reactions to one of the craziest races we have ever seen in Ironman history: the all-women's 2025 Ironman World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. We discuss what it means to win and lose with grace, Taylor Knibb's incredible post-race interview, the role of heat and humidity in making or breaking an athlete's day, and what bike brands seem to be most popular at the elite level. We also chat through the role of muscular endurance in super long-distance events like half and full Ironmans, marathons, and ultra runs, and preview some of the innovations we will be bringing to our athletes' training in the 2026 season to account for this. Next, we deep dive on takeaways from Ironman California, which Katie and Jim agree is one of the best races you can do as a first-time IM athlete. Finally, we expand on a listener question from last week about burnout and drill into three different types of athletes: “event athletes,” “identity-based athletes,” and “for the love of the sport athletes,” considering what lessons we can learn from each athlete type as we try to burnout-proof our season. Dusty Holcomb is the Founder and CEO of The Arcqus Group, an executive coaching and leadership consulting firm that helps leaders connect purpose to performance through clarity, consistency, and accountability. With a background that spans senior leadership, operations, and culture building, Dusty works with executives and their teams to unlock potential and lead with intention. Before founding The Arcqus Group, Dusty served as CEO of National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car, where he led thousands of employees across North America. He holds an MBA from Auburn University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. A member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Private Directors Association, and YPO, Dusty also serves on multiple private and nonprofit boards and is a five-time Ironman finisher. WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS EPISODE ABOUT EFFECTIVE LAW FIRM LEADERSHIP When people don't understand why their work matters or how it connects to where the firm is going, they show up differently. They do what's required but not much more. And that gap between doing the minimum and bringing your best? That's discretionary effort. Law firm leaders deal with this all the time. You've got talented people who care about their work, but they're buried under billable hours and competing priorities. It's difficult to step back and create the clarity that actually helps people engage. Clay talks about his latest adventure — training for an Ironman race in his late 50s — and the physical and mental grind that comes with it. Guest: Ben F'n Mollin — celebrity hairdresser turned endurance athlete, suicide prevention specialist, and author of Deconstructed: Kill the Thing That's Killing You.Corey sits down with longtime friend and industry legend Ben F'n Mollin for a raw, unfiltered conversation about burning down everything that was killing him — and rebuilding a life grounded in truth, grit, and miles. From Bravo's Shear Genius to rockstar educator status, Ben lived the dream: fame, travel, and recognition. But behind it was debt, addiction, and a breaking point that almost ended his life on April 1, 2018. Instead, he chose to deconstruct everything — walking away from the salon, the brands, and the spotlight to rediscover himself through endurance sports and deep inner work. Now a punk-rock, Cali-sober, non-practicing Jew who turned survival into service, Ben shares how he became an Ironman, an ultramarathoner, and a suicide prevention speaker — pacing others on their path back to purpose. From Shear Genius to the Edge: What overnight fame feels like and why success can be just as dangerous as failure.Breaking Point: The moment Ben told his wife he planned to end his life — and how speaking up saved him.The Deconstruction Process: How he “killed” his career instead of himself and rebuilt from silence, sobriety, and stillness.Movement as Medicine: How walking became running, which became Ironman Mont-Tremblant and eventually 100+ mile ultramarathons.Mindset of a Warrior: Lessons from endurance racing that mirror survival, discipline, and recovery. From Burnout to Purpose: Why Ben now helps others confront their demons through The Ben Mollin Project and public speaking.Redemption at 50: Returning to the Sedona Canyon 125 in 2025, the race that once broke him — and finishing it in spiritual triumph.“Don't kill yourself — kill the thing that's killing you.”“When it gets hard, that's when you have to create.”“Success can be just as dangerous as failure.”“Discomfort isn't pain — it's growth.”
