Cornell University Professor Dan Hooker and one of his students join The Food Institute Podcast to help us break down the results. More About Dan Hooker: Dan is a global retail and consumer packaged goods executive with broad experience across diverse business environments and formats, leading traditional food retail operations and merchandising, as well as product development, consumer and category analytics, sourcing and procurement, global trading, national sales and ecommerce. Dan is an outstanding strategist and general manager, and he has led the successful startup of multiple diverse businesses. Known for and recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on retailers' proprietary brands, he has shaped clients' programs across four continents and eight classes of trade. His passion is in helping companies see their unique DNA and positioning and creating actionable marketing and sales strategies essential for their success. After earning a degree from Cornell University in Agribusiness and Marketing, Dan plunged headlong into retail joining Aldi Foods as a District Manager. In the early 1990's Wakefern/ShopRite was very concerned about Aldi's expansion east and Dan jumped at the opportunity to start a business, and moved to West Springfield, MA and opened the first Price Rite Store. Dan's career at Daymon progressed rapidly, and In 2011 Dan was appointed to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as the Chief Supplier Officer (CSO). As the CSO Dan was responsible for Category Management and Analytics, Supplier Relationships, Global Sourcing and Procurement and ran Daymon's import and export businesses. For the last four years Dan has focused on the digital channel selling to ecommerce retailers and running multi-million-dollar businesses for Walmart.com and Jet.com. After the tragic loss of her son, she found the energy to get out there and chart the course ahead, turning running into a passion and a lifestyle.Check out her bio below. LaChandra ("Candy") currently serves as the Director of Litigation Operations, leading an exceptionally talented team of litigation managers who handle lawsuits filed in the states of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.Candy joined USAA in 2018 as a Senior Supply Chain Manager in Global Sourcing and Procurement, supporting Bank IT services. In this role, she designed sourcing solutions, negotiated agreements, and effectively managed third party relationships to ensure regulatory compliance, optimize return, and mitigate risk for USAA.Prior to USAA, Candy served 20 years in the United States Air Force.  She held a variety of leadership positions in C-130 aircraft, recruiting, and mission support squadrons before transferring to the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps.  As a JAG and trial attorney, Candy represented the Air Force in complex, multi-million dollar contracting disputes before the Government Accountability Office (GAO), Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, and federal courts and is also licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Candy also supported contracting and acquisition personnel as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at an air logistics center.  In her final active duty assignment, she served as the Chief, Strategic Sourcing, providing strategic sourcing, acquisition, and fiscal law direction to 25 subordinate legal offices by reviewing requests for proposal (RFPs), source selection plans, price negotiation memoranda, sole source justifications, and other contracting actions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and departmental acquisition regulations.Candy earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Hampton University and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  She also possesses a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Government Procurement Law from The George Washington University. She is also recognized as a Master Instructor of new instructors for all three of the APICS Instructor Training Programs.Maryanne has 18 years of experience in a variety of manufacturing, purchasing and logistics positions, including automotive, medical, consumer goods, electronic and food industries. Maryanne has been an APICS member for over 25 years. She has developed interactive exercises to enhance the entire suite of APICS CSCP and CPIM review courses, and has served as a subject matter expert on the APICS CPIM, CSCP, and Principles content development committees. She has also been instrumental in creating activities and enhancements for the CPIM, Principles and Lean programs. Her passion is stimulating the learning experience for adult learners by creating hands on exercises that engage all learning styles. At the 2019 Future of Sourcing Awards Boreing received the Future of Sourcing Award in the category of Governance/Compliance. With The Boeing Company entering its second century as the global leader in manufacturing commercial jetliners, defense, space and security systems, Boeing needed to be faster. The Indirect Supply Chain organization created a Governance Steering Committee, comprising both Boeing and suppliers, to drive innovative solutions that address challenges and foster the partnership in these efforts. It was created to assure all innovation and value from the partnership was recognized throughout the life of the contract with no value leakage.
