I wrap up our series on Strong Body Strong Mind and I'm going to give you a paradigm shifting analogy that I believe will forever change how you view your brain's ability in regards to the overall health of your body. Dr LaFountain is a healthcare strategist, neuroscientist and author of “How Patients Think: A science-based strategy for patient engagement and population health.” She is the CEO of Mind Field Solutions Corporation, a firm specializing in the application of cognitive neuroscience to health behavior and patient engagement. The Cleveland Clinic has described her neuroscience approach to patient engagement as “a stunning innovation in healthcare,” and “a pathway for transformation.” Harvard Medical School describes her work as “providing a scientific approach to patient care that is long overdue.” Her business was described as “one to watch” by Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures. Prior to establishing Mind Field Solutions, she worked for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals where she led consumer research and analytics for the oncology portfolio. Listen NowWhat accounts for so called patient compliance or adherence or why is it the case physicians and other providers are frequently unable to successfully engage their patients.  Why is it the case, for example, that patients adhere to highly toxic regimens of such as chemo therapy and not to more tolerable drugs such as statins.  What explains adherence or non-adherence?         During this 22-minute conversation Dr. LaFountain explains why, using her phrase, the "epidemic of non-adherence" persists.
