Do you ever find yourself second-guessing your path in life? Maybe you know in your heart what you want to do but don't quite know how to make it happen. Or perhaps you feel like it's too late to start over or go after your dreams. Honestly, we could probably all use a little more alignment in our lives. It's easy to get caught up in the expectations of others or the pressures we put on ourselves. The truth is, our souls will always lead us down the right path. (We just have to be willing to follow.) Join me on this episode where I chat with the writer, mystic, devotional creative, and intuitive visionary Rebecca Campbell. I've admired Rebecca for many years and have wanted to have her on the show for quite some time. I'm so excited that the moment is finally here and that I get to share it here with you. There is something so beautiful about the way she lets her soul and intuition guide her life. Follow along as we talk about how to move forward and follow your desires even when it feels scary. As a young adult, Rebecca struggled with acknowledging that her career path wasn't going to look like a traditional career trajectory. She shares her journey going from a thriving career as a creative director to leaving her job to follow her intuition and write her first book, and all the challenges in between. Over the years, Rebecca has created a truly inspiring personal brand based on living a soul-led life in order to achieve your purpose and find alignment. I just love her outlook regarding the experiences we have in life in that nothing is ever wasted. Listen as she explains how she has learned to embrace every experience in various facets of her life. As she describes, each one plays a role in revealing the path before us. I know you'll appreciate Rebecca's honesty regarding the many aspects of following your soul's calling. She's willing to admit that running your own business has its hardships, noting that it's much easier to work through them when you're in alignment. (She's right.) When things align with your soul and intuition, you'll notice problems feel a little lighter. Now, perhaps one of my favorite parts of this episode is when Rebecca eloquently explains the lessons we can all learn from nature. Listen as she explains just why we should all be a bit more like flowers, and how paying more attention to nature can help you be more in-tune with your soul. I'm telling you, after this episode, you'll be ready to embrace nature in a whole new way. So, if you're trying to find your calling or feeling stuck as you look for ways to step into your calling, you'll find Rebecca's story highly relatable. If you're looking to find more fulfillment, feel more aligned, and live a soul-led life, this is the episode for you. In this episode… [04:46] Welcome, Rebecca! She explains her search to find her calling. [10:48] Hear how Rebecca finally came out of her ‘spiritual closet'. [15:13] How Rebecca navigated the concerns and uncertainties of starting something new. [16:49] The process of writing her first book and stepping into her calling. [22:26] The power of following your intuition. [26:30] No experience in life is ever a waste. [29:49] The positive impact of alignment on your business. [31:57] Rebecca shares more about her latest book, Letters to a Starseed. [36:44] Rebecca's advice for bringing forth your soul. (Nature's biggest lesson.) Quotes: “I really believe that it's our weirdness— the things that we're weirdly obsessed with— that actually are revealing this golden path for us. I call it living the soul-led life. The soul is calling us in that direction.” -Rebecca Campbell “It's pointless if we just receive the ideas and talk about the ideas, um, or the hunches or whatever they are, um, we got to turn them into action. We've got to show up every day with the baby step” -Rebecca Campbell “When you have the call to follow a particular path, you can be like, ‘Oh gosh, I've wasted all these years not doing it. I should have started six months ago and I've missed my moment.' But I don't think that is true. I don't think it is ever too late. I also think that [on] the path we walk, nothing is ever wasted.” -Rebecca Campbell “When you start to really pay attention to your gifts and what you bring to the world, that's where all of the doors open. People get it and people are drawn to it. It comes more easily than when you're trying to do something that's not authentic.” -Emily Williams “We are not separate from nature. We literally are nature ourselves. What nature shows us every single day is that it is not stagnant. It is completely cyclic… just because we're not living the life of our dreams right now doesn't mean that it wasn't what we dreamt of before. That's different from the goalpost constantly changing. We are changing and we are meant to change.” -Rebecca Campbell Links & Resources: Stay up to date with the latest episodes: Follow the I Heart My Life Show on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/i-heart-my-life-show/id1569047758 Subscribe to the I Heart My Life Show on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/1Zw6fI37FrfVjZMXlMiZZ6 Connect with Rebecca: Visit Her Website https://rebeccacampbell.me/hello/ Rebecca on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/rebeccacampbell_author/?hl=en Connect with Emily: I Heart My Life Website https://www.iheartmylife.com/ I Heart My Life on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/iheartmylife/ I Heart My Life on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/iheartmylifenow I Heart My Life on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/i-heart-my-life/ https://www.iheartmylife.com/join Join the IHML community to receive exclusive announcements and tips. A true sales partner with the ability to quickly and effectively delve into markets and products, develop brand messaging, and build programs and teams that deliver results. She has a proven track record of delivering rapid revenue growth - One of Kapost's "Top 50 Product Marketers to Follow" - Passionate builder of teams, processes and infrastructure to meet organizational goals. She is also host of a popular weekly product management and marketing podcast. In this episode, Rebecca talks about the new Product Design course Pragmatic offers in partnership with the founding instructors of Cooper Education. She relates the importance of sales teams having the belief in the price so that they can be confident to go out there and win your price. She also highlights on who should own Pricing in the company as it relates to who creates value for people's willingness to buy. Why you have to check out today’s podcast: Find out how and when to decide the price Learn about how deeply tied product management is to Pricing and see the depth of the connection and how powerful it can be Find out what you can do to affect customers' willingness to pay "I would invest in more time…in explaining your price to sales." - Rebecca Kalogeris Increase Your Pricing Knowledge: Become a Champions of Value INSIDER! To sign up go to insider.championsofvalue.com Topics Covered: 01:28 - How Rebecca got into Pricing accidentally 02:45 - Why she didn't get things right in the early part of her pricing career 05:11 - Pragmatic DNA - What's the problem 06:19 - Who should own Pricing 06:46 - Which particular department should Pricing reside in the company 08:03 - Why Product Management and Product Marketing should own Pricing 09:52 - Is Product Marketing a better place to put Pricing 10:55 - Her thoughts on product marketers being smarter than product managers 11:43 - Why does Pragmatic not incorporating good, better, best Pricing 16:16 - What Pragmatic is spending time on for a wider tool belt of items to create good, better, best Pricing 17:18 - Founding instructors from Cooper education partnering with Pragmatic for a Product Design Course 22:42 - Why product designers need to have a good understanding of the business in both the market and financial context 23:25 - When to decide what the price would be 24:32 - What to consider before building a solution 25:21 - What can any member of the company do to affect someone's willingness to pay 26:41 - Everyone in the company should create value and not destroy it Key Takeaways: "Once you start to talk to the rest of the organization about why that is how you price, it's a big learning curve for all those departments you interact with, but it makes you think about everything differently. At the end of the day, that's where the money comes in. And to be able to tie those things together, I think, excites everybody and also kind of coordinates everybody around the same north star." - Rebecca Kalogeris "Product Management, Product Marketing, certainly we've seen Pricing and pricing strategists that come in more and more where it's an in-piece. I would not put that Pricing in Sales. And I would not put that Pricing in Finance. I think Finance is too far removed from the market, that's not their role. And Sales is too tied to individual customers versus the market to see some of those bigger trends." - Rebecca Kalogeris "I think designers get a much better understanding of the market. But the other thing that designers need is a really good understanding of the business because sometimes they're isolated from that in a way that product isn't." - Rebecca Kalogeris "I would say that you should decide what the price is going to be before you decide if you're actually going to build it." - Rebecca Kalogeris "What can you do as any member of that company to affect someone's willingness to pay and I think I was just reading a big study about customer loyalty and satisfaction, and sort of how important that literally, the experience they have in the purchase process to the experience they have what they call customer service, all really affect someone's willingness to pay." - Rebecca Kalogeris Resources / People Mentioned: The Inmates Are Running the Asylum: Why High-Tech Products Drive Us Crazy and How to Restore the Sanity by Alan Cooper Connect with Rebecca Kalogeris: LinkedIn pragmaticinstitute.com Connect with Mark Stiving: Email: mark@impactpricing.com LinkedIn

This week’s interview brought a much-needed kick to my step, and I think it will do the same for you too! As entrepreneurs, we tend to normalize doing it all. There seems to be this cultural mindset that hustling means having all the balls in the air at once. And it’s such an easy trap to fall into because we not only love our business, but we love the value we add to people’s lives. We start to believe that the more we do, the more we are helping ourselves and others. Rebecca Miller of Munchkin Lane reminded me that often the pep in our step we’re looking for is actually taking the leap and doing less.Rebecca became a student of mine and felt a bit stretched thin...not just in her business but in her home life as well. Her husband was away for medical school while she stayed home with FIVE kids between the ages of 2-7! And in COVID times where she’s now juggling mom, business owner, AND teacher. She realized that she deserved to be present in her life and for her family, so she made the difficult decision to scale back on the products she offered, thinking it would mean a pay cut. Much to her surprise, she went from random orders with no consistency to just under 2,000 paying customers per month just by selling workbooks for kids. Tune in and find out how going from selling multiple things helped her feel more in control and resulted in massive gains in her business. You will love her as much as I do. She is such a light, and it turns out we both fangirl over one book that you have to get. It has changed both of our lives forever!Key TakeawaysThe start of Rebecca’s business (05:31)Her mindset behind growing her business (07:00)The first products she sold (09:05)Why it’s important for someone else to handle customer service (14:30)A wakeup call that she needed to make changes in her business (23:30)What she’s currently selling in her business (30:00)Three pieces of advice for those looking to start their own online store (35:10)How Rebecca gained clarity on her project (39:18)Additional Resources Get a copy of Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown hereFind Rebecca on Instagram @munchkinlanellcGet your own personalized busy book hereConnect with Alison:FacebookInstagramLinkedIn>>>Join the $1-100k Program

So much so that it is all she offers. Rebecca doesn’t source furniture or do project execution and management—just design. When she launched her design business 13 years ago, she decided she was going to create her own rules. She wanted to focus on design psychology and what made her happy. The hassle and headache that comes with project execution was NOT her desired role. Rebecca states you couldn’t pay her enough to deal with the stress that comes with execution. So why would she offer a service that she absolutely hates? Different situations call for different solutions. Rebecca wanted to be able to suggest IKEA furniture, instead of sourcing a designer that may be triple the price. She didn’t want money to be the deciding factor in her work. So she made her own way with her business model. How Rebecca executes her business model Rebecca creates a detailed digital file for each of her clients with layouts, dimensions, material lists, products, links to products, etc. Because her clients and their contractors’ source everything themselves, she goes the retail route as often as possible. She leaves all of the final decision-making in the client’s hands. But she’s also available for questions and a helping hand when necessary. Rebecca fully realizes that her business model isn’t for everyone. Her ideal client is a working professional—frequently in the tech or engineering fields—that aren’t afraid to manage projects. They have disposable income and are thoughtful about how they spend that money. She doesn’t cave when a client asks her to take on the entire project. She doesn’t waste her time on what doesn’t make her happy. Listen to the whole episode for a laundry-list of helpful information: Rebecca’s pricing model, how she handles the revision process with clients, and the innovative way she markets her business (HINT: It includes Yelp!). Rebecca’s business doesn’t fit your typical mold—but she’s found great success embracing her ‘seriously happy’ mindset. One of my favorite authors, Rebecca Scritchfield, author of Body Kindness is on the podcast today. Body Kindness is such a great representation of pursuing intuitive eating and health and wellness for authentic intentions and a positive, self loving mindset. Body Kindness encompasses so many beliefs we have at Nourishing Women Podcast and is a critical part of wellness without obsession. You don’t have to love your body to respect it, but let’s not forget that body respect and body kindness are key components of wellness we are often lacking in our culture that obsesses over the thin ideal. Rebecca Scritchfield is an award winning HAES dietitian, certified exercise physiologist and author of the book, Body Kindness®. In this episode we discuss: Rebecca’s origin story to becoming a non-diet dietitian and discovering her philosophy of Body Kindness. What her book, Body Kindness is about and the mission behind her work. The three pillars of body kindness: love, connect and care. The science and psychology behind the concept of spiraling up in the book. Rebecca shares the difference in intention and mindset when you look at nutrition from a non-diet lens vs a diet culture lens. How Rebecca practices wellness without obsession. [4:40]Why did Rebecca push herself so hard to swim when she was a young? [5:45]Rebecca’s road to swimming at USC on a full scholarship and how her college experience was shaped by swimming. [6:05]What was it like to go to the Beijing Olympics as a college student, and come home with three Olympic medals? [7:00]The Beijing Olympics coincided with Twitter’s rise. What was it like to be on the US swimming team at a time when it was rocketing to fame with teammates like Michael Phelps, and your popularity was directly correlated to your medal? [11:00]What it was like to go back to college swimming after the 2008 Olympics. [12:08]Rebecca needs to decide if she’s going to go for another Olympic cycle after she finishes college. She didn’t have any other obvious options, but eventually decided to keep training for the next Olympics and try to break the world record in the 200m breaststroke while hiking a mountain in Honolulu. [13:10]Going into the 2012 Olympics, Soni was pretty sure it was her last Olympic cycle. She didn’t know what was coming after retirement, but how did she know she was done training? After seeing how the media treated star athletes, Rebecca realized she could never really win. [15:38]Rebecca’s sponsorship deals made it possible for her to swim professionally, but they all came at a cost. [17:33]What it was like to feel like tying her worth into her swimming performance, and feeling like she wasn’t living up to the athlete identity she had been given. [19:00]How gracious Rebecca is to Ruta, who ended up winning gold in the 100m breastroke at the 2012 London Olympics. She describes that race as the perfect example of how great the Olympics are. [20:00]Rebecca describes how she got through her mental block leading up to the 200m breaststroke final at the 2012 Olympics, which ultimately led to her interest in positive psychology and mindset in sport. “I don’t know how, but I’m going to do it anyway.” [21:05]Rebecca describes being shocked that she broke the world record in the 200m breastroke, and realizing that she was the first woman to break 2:20 in the event. [24:17]How the 2012 Olympic experience was a little more fun than her first Olympics. [25:45]After London, Soni was living in LA getting invites to media events, but did not want to attend any of them [16:40]What was it like to leave a sport to which she had assigned her identity? “To lose or shift an identity is excruciating.” How she spent the first few months after retiring, grappling with the fact that she didn’t know the answer to the question, “What do you do?” [27:30]Who was Rebecca outside of “Rebecca the Swimmer?” [29:10]How Rebecca began to explore who else she was outside of her athlete identity, and realizing the huge role that swimming played in her life. [30:45]As Rebecca looked back on her career, she began to get curious about how she became so dominant in a sport where she was not at an obvious physical advantage. She became interested in the role of mindset and positive psychology. [31:38]How Rebecca’s interest in positive psychology and experience during her swimming career led her to start RISE Athletes in order to help young athletes develop the mental side of the game. [32:00]Rebecca discusses the importance of hiring Olympians at RISE in order to give them the experience of mentoring the future generation of athletes, and how that benefits both the mentors and mentees in confidence. [33:45]Does Rebecca have more moving on to do? [34:40]Rebecca is now reflecting on the pressure she places on herself to give back to athletics, even though it has never been asked of her. Is it because she doesn’t know her value anywhere else? [35:15]Emotions. Why were they suppressed during Rebecca’s swimming career? And what was the process of getting more in touch with her emotions after she retired? [37:00]What it was like for Rebecca to lean into her more feminine side (and she’s not talking about male vs. female, but allowing herself to find softness in herself and giving herself space to back off.) [39:45]How emotions in sport are traditionally not given much value, which led to Rebecca suffocating her emotions, resulting in inevitable blowups. She is now working hard to value her emotions (and herself). [41:30]How Rebecca found yoga and really got into the philosophy of yoga. [45:00]What’s Rebecca’s relationship now with her athlete identity? [48:20]In terms of what’s next, Rebecca really believes that she needs to experience the death of what was in order to experience the birth of what’s coming. [51:50]How Rebecca structures her life now. [53:25]

Airbnb Superhost Rebecca Cramer lives by the philosophy that it’s better to regret something that you’ve tried than to regret something that you didn’t try at all. And that attitude has served her well, inspiring Rebecca to invest in short-term rental (STR) properties in highly competitive markets and absolutely crush it—proving that big risk, when done right, can reap big rewards.Rebecca is the founder of Mad Men Vacation Rentals, a STR business with listings in Maryland and Florida. She invests in vacation spots she and her family love, creating the Mad Men Beach House listing in Ocean City, MD, and the Mad Men Magic Kingdom House near Disney World. Rebecca started hosting on Airbnb in January of 2018 and has quickly proven that newcomers can be successful in crowded STR markets. On this episode of Get Paid for Your Pad, Rebecca is back to discuss her decision to invest in competitive locations like Maryland and Florida. What’s the most important part of a short-term rental (STR) listing? Most hosts focus on the space itself, making it a point to have beautiful photographs that make the property look as attractive as possible. But it’s just as important to communicate who YOU are through the Airbnb listing, creating a very positive first impression so that guests feel comfortable booking with you. But what does that look like?Rebecca Cramer is the Superhost behind Mad Men Vacation Rentals, a small STR business with listings in Ocean City, Maryland, and Kissimmee, Florida. Rebecca Rettig and Marc Boiron, both partners at FisherBroyles, join us for this episode. The two work together on a daily basis, with Rebecca having more litigation expertise and Marc having more technical expertise. Rebecca discusses how the origins of crypto were based in anarchist/cypherpunk ideas but that crypto is now becoming much more mainstream. She says crypto functions like cash but is better than gold. Marc adds that he thinks one of the best aspects of crypto is that it brings people together from different fields and that this type of collaborative learning advances the industry. Marc goes on to explain how the United States is a leader on the STOs front because of the nation’s focus on regulations, while any entity involving utility tokens is moving off-shore. Rebecca believes that coordinated lobbying efforts, as well as education for judges, should be priorities for the crypto community. Marc talks about the challenges that come with applying murky regulations to technology with thousands of possible iterations. As an unofficial tip to crypto startups, Rebecca recommends protecting your IP, having insurance, and making sure you’re complying with all laws. Marc adds that companies should think more about governance beyond the protocol layer and ask questions like, “What should my board look like?” And “What should I do with equity?” Finally, Marc and Rebecca agreed that the best way to get started in crypto is to go through the process of on-boarding onto an exchange, buying a small amount of crypto, and taking it off the exchange and into a wallet. Topics covered: - How Rebecca and Marc first got into crypto. - What excites them about the future of crypto and the law. - Bitcoin functioning like cash and being better than gold. - Regulation’s effect on the industry. - Educating judges about cryptocurrency and blockchain. - What Rebecca and Marc still find daunting about blockchain. - Things that start-ups in the space should consider - How to get started in crypto. - Which resources to look into to learn more. Successful people all seem to know the one trick that it takes some years to figure out — we can't have all the answers ourselves. We need some help, and there is strength in reaching out for the expertise and wisdom of others. Carrie's guest today just happens to be one of the best in helping people surprise themselves in just how much they have to offer. Rebecca Sparks is a powerhouse Life Transition and Confidence Coach and founder of The Daily Guru, a site dedicated to empower and educate women seeking more from life. She talks about what a life coach does, why it's way more a core human need than a luxury, and than just a luxury, things we should look for when looking for a Life Coach. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Rebecca's background of living in the UK and Australia before coming over to the United States. You will also hear how her concentration in International Relations with Media fits perfectly now to her life communicating and traveling all over the world to help her clients and inspire others. How Rebecca came to be a Life Coach, and how excited she was when she found out you can get paid to help people change their lives! How Rebecca created The Daily Guru, and how it completely changed the industry for how consumers and Life Coaches could safely connect and collaborate. The themes that come up in Rebecca's work with women who are professionals in leadership roles. Why many women (and men) who dedicate their life to their business for decades wake up and realize they need more balance, or even something completely different. That it's a total game changer when we put our core values as a human even higher than the company or organization we work for. The difference Rebecca sees between men and women in coaching both professionally and personally. How trailblazers such as Tony Robbins and Oprah completely opened up the world to Life Coaching and celebrated it. How Rebecca met her husband, also a Life Coach! The blueprint of leadership qualities that are solely masculine traits, and why we are close to changing these limiting expectations. They key: If you are working with a coach, you must be really ready to change. Really. That even Rebecca herself has two coaches. How you can work with Rebecca on a one-to-one basis, or book her for a speaking engagement or workshop. Quotes: “I have always embraced the variety of life that travel gives you.” “Coaching is such a fantastic personal development resource to access.” “We live by our beliefs of coaching.” “The more work I do, the more work I see needs to be done in this space.” “Happiness is love and connection. The idea of going slow, taking baby step and waiting for permission to start is a syndrome that holds so many of us back. When you know your stuff and are a genius in your own right, your gift is likely more ready for the world than you think. It's up to you to stop overthinking it. I'm excited to share this conversation with a powerful woman who did just that. I met this tremendous being when she was on the cusp of a major life change and she enrolled in the Package Your Genius Academy fall 2018 cohort. Rebecca Thompson is a Clarity + Career Coach for bold, politically minded women. After losing her election for State Representative by just 6 votes on Election Day, she has made it her personal mission to help other women of color run for office and to create the life and career of their dreams. She is the Founder of the Live In Your Light Bootcamp, a personal development intensive that is inspiring a new generation of high achieving women to live authentically, purposefully, and in their light. Rebecca says she was burned out after the 2016 election and knew that she was being called to more. While she loved the training and leadership development components of her work, she wanted to phase out of the nastiness of politics. That's how the bootcamp was born. According to Rebecca, the timing for high achieving women of color to live in their light is year round. No matter what you see women achieving on the outside, inside they still struggle with limiting beliefs, negative self talk, and self doubt. This is what's keeping so many amazing women from walking in their purpose. Rebecca now helps her clients overcome imposter syndrome, create morning routines that start with powerful affirmations, get crystal clear about what they want their future to look and feel like, and surround themselves with people who light them up. On this episode we discuss: How Rebecca turned a losing political race into the fuel to start a new career path Her struggle with depression and anxiety and how she nurtured herself back to wholeness How she shifted how she works How naming what you do aloud can give you permission to claim your new path The tell-tale signs that you need to do inner work How to re-ignite your hobbies and passions You can learn more about Rebecca, her Live in Your Light Bootcamp and her free 30 day affirmation challenge at RebeccaMThompson.com *** Applications are open for the next round of Package Your Genius Academy that starts in early May. In this episode, I welcome my colleague and good friend Rebecca Lester on to the podcast. Rebecca and I crossed paths while working together at Soul 7 – Mindful Healing Technologies here in Toronto. I have learnt so much while working with her and in this episode, you will get a taste of some of the wisdom Rebecca has acquired along her journey of energy healing, travelling, sustainable living and frequency therapy. The world of energy healing is something that I have opened up to since moving to Toronto and while working at Soul7. It requires an immense amount of inner awareness to notice the subtle shifts in energy that go on all around us. Bec is incredibly tuned into herself and makes her decisions in life based on her ability to notice energetic shifts from within. I believe this is a vital skill to develop, something that I am still working on, that can guide you in the direction the universe/god/spirit/awareness is calling you to go. In this episode we discuss: How Rebecca’s interest in spirituality, science and energy healing began How travelling can connect us with something greater than our self Rebecca’s advice for people considering world travel on a budget Why Rebecca is volunteering at an organic farm How to connect with the earth’s energy and why it’s important The benefits of PEMF therapy Why it’s important to start seeing the world in terms of energy, frequency and vibration Why cultivating realize our connection with awareness How to ask the universe for what you want The impact yoga can have on opening up space for awareness to expand
Rebecca Jewett is the executive director of Palmer Land Trust, a conservation organization committed to protecting southern Colorado’s recreational open space, working agricultural land, and stunning scenic vistas. Under Rebecca’s leadership, Palmer has moved away from traditional, decades-old land conservation methods and into a more proactive model, pursuing audacious and outside-the-box conservation strategies across a variety of landscapes. By focusing on community above all else, Palmer is finding win-win scenarios that benefit all of southern Colorado’s numerous stakeholders, from ranchers and farmers to mountain bikers and climbers, and from cities and municipalities to counties and rural areas. • Rebecca is a fifth-generation Coloradan who grew up deeply immersed in the outdoors, which instilled a passion for open space that has guided her career trajectory. After ten years in public lands-related work, she made the shift into private land conservation when she took the helm of Palmer. As you’ll hear in our conversation, Rebecca has big plans for tackling some of Colorado’s most pressing conservation issues, issues that threaten the West from ecological, economic, and community perspectives. Her enthusiasm for her work is contagious, and her ability to communicate complex issues in an engaging way is second-to-none. • Folks who follow me on social media may already know, but I was so impressed with Rebecca and the rest of the Palmer team that I recently left the ranch brokerage business and joined the organization as a full-time employee. The opportunity to apply my professional expertise in real estate and finance to some of the West’s most challenging problems was too great of an opportunity to pass up—so I’m officially a full-time Palmer staff member, Rebecca is my boss, and I couldn’t be more excited about the work ahead. • I know you’ll enjoy this conversation, because Rebecca and I cover a wide range of topics that should be of interest for anyone who loves the West. We discuss the importance of water, agriculture, open space, and recreation, and how conservation can bring together stakeholders from all of those factions. We talk about the Arkansas River basin where Palmer focuses its efforts, and how it encompasses every Colorado landscape, from 14,000-foot mountains to flat, open grasslands. Rebecca elaborates on her leadership style, and also talks about her experience being a female leader in a once male-dominated industry. Today we are thrilled to have Rebecca Pontikes on the show and we are going to be talking about the issue of Consult Fees in Employment Law cases. We have discussed this issue before, in an earlier podcast, where we touched on it briefly with Jacob Small, but on today's show, we will be dealing with this issue exclusively. Listen in to find out more. Rebecca, who has a sharp bend towards women's rights, is a Plaintiff Side Employment Lawyer, based in Boston, where she only does Plaintiff's Employment Law work. The focus of her practice is on discrimination against care givers who are Moms and Dads who get penalized at work, because they have to care for either their kids, or their ageing parents. She also does a lot of work around sexual harassment and with Title Nine plaintiffs. In addition to that, she deals with the whole gamut of Employment work, especially with Non-Compete Agreements, because in Boston they have a lot of health care and a lot of tech. Listen to find out what Rebecca has to tell you today, about the issue of Consult Fees in Employment Law cases. Show highlights: Rebecca talks about what a Title Nine case means and who would call her, in that regard. Rebecca explains why she charges Consult Fees. How Rebecca's work differs from that done by firms who advertise 'no charge' for their consultations. The definition of a consultation could vary, from one Law Firm to the next. Many Law Firms have their junior Attorneys, or even Para-Legals handle their consultations. Some of the difficulties with dealing with Employment Law cases that most people don't know about. There are some resources for the people who really can't afford a Lawyer. Avvo.com offers a low-cost service where they will find you a Lawyer. Why Rebecca is passionate about having Legal Services adequately funded. The National Women's Law Centre, based in DC, is offering a Gender Equity Initiative, with a network of Attorneys who have agreed to take these discrimination cases. Why it would really be worth paying a Lawyer for a consultation. The National Employment Lawyers Association has a good list of Plaintiff Side Lawyers for you to use. On the Workplace Fairness website, they have a really good Q&A and helpful information for legal consumers and workers who have lost their job, or fear that they might lose it. (www.workplacefairness.org) Another resource, particularly for pregnancy and care giver discrimination cases, is the Centre For Work Life Law. (www.worklifelaw.org) They also have a hotline and some great resources. Resources: Rebecca's website: www.pontikeslawllc.com

Like so many businesses, Rebecca Coomes built her business out of a pain point that she was experiencing herself. Her particular pain point – a pain in the gut! Rebecca Coomes is the founder of The Healthy Gut, where she writes cookbooks and recipes for sufferers of a chronic illness called SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)which is one of the leading causes of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). She is a marketing consultant by day, but that is quickly taking a back seat to her new business, in which she's become the world's leading patient expert on SIBO! I saw Rebecca speak at a KPI event and she absolutely blew me away. Rebecca's personal journey is interesting in itself, but wait until you hear how two simple marketing strategies have sky-rocketed her business - one's called the Ascending Transaction Model, and the other one? Good old helpful marketing. Listen in as we cover some serious marketing ground including: How Rebecca overcame 36 years of chronic illness and unhelpful doctors to start not one but two businesses How she saw an opportunity in the lack of cookbooks for her very strict diet and used her marketing savvy to provide a solution How she went from being a marketing consultant to a world-leading patient expert on SIBO How her passion for cooking has led to changing people's lives with her content The struggles of self-publishing books, and spreading the word via her website and social media How building strong relationships with key influencers in your field can help get you ahead The importance of networking and attending conferences to make connections and spread your brand How she gets her foot in the door, with customers and experts alike How the combination of an ascending transaction model and the creation of helpful content has grown her business exponentially But that's not all. In this episode of your favourite marketing podcast: Resident techspert Dale Beaumont drops in to share another productivity tool to make your business life infinitely easier. I share another low cost marketing idea that'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Most of the women featured on the Happy Black Woman podcast are businesswomen; entrepreneurs who are building their dreams through a successful company. Today’s guest is a bit different. Rebecca Thompson is fulfilling her life-calling by championing a cause: black women in politics. Rebecca’s determination and spirit are a powerful demonstration of what can happen when black woman get energized toward public office. You will be inspired and encouraged - possibly even motivated to get involved in your community's politics - by listening to this episode of the podcast. The face of power tends to be male and it tends to be white. If you haven’t noticed how things are in this world, the faces of power tend to be male and they tend to be white. There’s nothing wrong with that - anyone can be an elected leader in the United States if they truly have the heart to serve the people. But those two facts do show us that the black community, and black women in particular, are underrepresented among the elected officials who have so much power in determining the course of our communities and nation. Rebecca’s realization of that fact is part of what motivated her to run for office and help other black women learn the skills needed to run for office in their jurisdictions. If you want to run for office you need to be clear about WHY you are doing it. There are many reasons you may want to run for office. But if you’re going to put yourself and your family into the public eye in that way you need to be clear on exactly WHY you are doing it. Rebecca Thompson says it’s essential because you will run into moments where it doesn’t seem that what you’re doing is worth it. Opponents will falsely accuse you. You will be slandered. The press will have unreasonable questions and demands. How are you going to persevere if that’s the case? You’ll do it by having a clear sense of WHY. Rebecca Thompson is Rosetta’s guest on this episode of Happy Black Woman. You don’t have to know how you’re going to raise the money. One of the major hurdles you’ll have to get past if you are going to run for elected office is the issue of money. You will need money to run a successful campaign - a LOT of it. How are you going to raise money if you don’t feel that you have a public persona already? Rebecca Thompson was in those exact shoes when she decided to run for office and her approach was much more successful than you might think it would be for a first-time candidate. Rebecca shares her fundraising strategy and tells the results of her demanding and powerful campaign, on this episode. What is your freedom worth to you? When Rosetta asked Rebecca Thompson about the ways she keeps herself on track in the midst of a busy life Rebecca said that she has to remind herself first of all that she’s working to maintain her own freedom. When that’s clear in her mind she has to ask herself a simple question and give an honest answer. “What is my freedom worth?” Is it worth missing a favorite TV show because she needs to work on an important project? Is it worth going to bed late or rising early? Those are the kinds of questions anyone has to ask themselves if they want a better life than they have - or if they want to make an impact like Rebecca does by encouraging black women in politics.
