In 1982, the Jane Fonda Workout became the best-selling home video of all time. Over decades, it and its 22 follow ups would spawn a fitness empire, sell more than 17 million copies, and transform Fonda into a leg-warmer-clad exercise guru. And 40 years after its initial release, when the COVID pandemic hit, the workout had a moment yet again. People began doing it alone and on Zoom, tweeting about it, writing about it. So when Jane Fonda agreed to talk to us, we set out to do an episode about it—but it did not go as planned. On Part 1 of a special two-part Decoder Ring, originally released in 2020, we explore the decades-long relationship of Jane Fonda and Leni Cazden, a fraught friendship that birthed the VHS workout that changed the world. It's a story of creation, fame, forgiveness, trauma, betrayal, survival, politics, and exercise. You'll hear from Jane Fonda and Leni Cazden, the brain behind the workout, and Shelly McKenzie, author of Getting Physical: The Rise of Fitness Culture in America. In two weeks we'll return with Part 2: the nitty gritty story of the bestselling VHS tape of all time. This episode was written by Willa Paskin. It was edited and produced by Benjamin Frisch. We had research assistance from Cleo Levin. Decoder Ring is produced by Katie Shepherd, Max Freedman, and Evan Chung, our supervising producer. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. If you have any cultural mysteries you want us to decode, email us at DecoderRing@slate.com, or leave a message on the Decoder RIng hotline at 347-460-7281. We love to hear any and all of your ideas for the show. Sources for This Episode Burke, Carol. Camp All-American, Hanoi Jane, and the High-and-Tight, Beacon Press, 2005. Fonda, Jane. From pre-med at Columbia to a Tony nomination on Broadway, Gabby Beans has carved out one of the most unique journeys in the industry. She shares how she navigated early setbacks (including being dropped by her first big manager) to build her career from the ground up with fearless off-Broadway work. That perseverance has more than paid off: Gabby earned a Tony Award nomination for her Broadway debut in The Skin of Our Teeth. Most recently, she's stunned audiences on Broadway in Sam Gold's Romeo + Juliet, taking on the dual roles of Mercutio and Friar Lawrence. On screen, Gabby's credits are just as impressive—House of Cards, Succession, Blue Bloods, The Good Fight, and her recent breakout in Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, and Bill Camp. Gabby opens up about the highs and lows of her journey, why she loves Zoom chemistry reads, and the wisdom she's gained from working with some of the industry's most visionary directors. This episode proves that in a career where “nothing ever happens the way you think it will,” passion and persistence truly light the way. Welcome to Episode 241! Some highlights of this episode include a discussion of our third quarter readalong, THE UPSTAIRS HOUSE by Julia Fine, and its companion read, Charlotte Perkins Gilman's 1892 short story, THE YELLOW WALLPAPER. Thanks to the readers who joined us for the Zoom conversation and helped deepen our appreciation of both stories. We also discussed “The Monkey's Paw” by W.W.Jacobs from THE PENGUIN BOOK OF GHOST STORIES from Elizabeth Gaskell to Ambrose Bierce, and learned that it has not only been adapted to film, but there's been a play and an opera inspired by this short, tense, and creepy tale. Some other things we've read include WORKING by Robert Caro, UNTIL ALISON by Kate Russo, WRECK by Catherine Newman, and FONSECA by Jessica Francis Kane. In Biblio Adventures, we recap jaunts to exciting places in SIX STATES: Connecticut, of course, and also New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Tennessee, and Alabama. We got around the past two weeks! Stops included the NYPL, The Drama Book Shop, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, RJ Julia Booksellers, the Piper City Public Library, Parnassus Books, and Huntsville's historic districts. Have you heard that NYC is getting its first Horror Bookstore? The Twisted Spine in Brooklyn is celebrating its grand opening in early September. Happy Listening and Happy Reading! https://www.bookcougars.com/blog-1/2025/episode241

I’m joined for this episode by two guys who spent decades turning a smart, biting sense of humor into underground, DIY favorites as part of Too Much Joy, and later… Wonderlick. We talked during the pandemic about Too Much Joy in a standard COVID-era “Zoom” chat… and this time around, I met Tim Quirk and Jay Blumenfield in person. We met at the wonderful Blue Island Beer Company, where the band was set to play later in the evening. Sitting outside on a perfect Chicago weather day, we chatted about: -The differences between Too Much Joy and Wonderlick -The new album, “Wonderlick Goes to War” -Tim’s obsessiveness about… everything? -Why is there a documentary crew following them around everywhere? -What the studio sessions were like for this album -What being a musician is like in 2025, as opposed to Too Much Joy’s heyday -The Chicago connection to the new Wonderlick album -Vinko Bogotaj: Who was he? Why does Wonderlick have a song about him? -There’s a major Too Much Joy reissue on the way! See Wonderlick on tour, and give “Wonderlick Goes to War” a listen. They’re awesome. In this episode, Scott Becker discusses Zoom's strong earnings, new AI tools, and why its ease of use continues to set it apart from competitors despite the bells and whistles of other platforms.
In one of those bumper-sized guest-filled jamborees in which we specialise, this week's Empire Podcast sees John Nugent sit down on Zoom to interview Eddington star, Joaquin Phoenix... or does Joaquin Phoenix interview John Nugent? All will be revealed. [18:52 - 35:59 approx] Elsewhere, Chris Hewitt has a lovely chat about The Life of Chuck with co-stars Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor, in which they try desperately not to give anything away about Mike Flanagan's Stephen King adaptation; [59:45 - 1:18:06 approx] and he also has a chaotic Zoom with the stars of the excellent Eenie Meanie, Samara Weaving and Karl Glusman. [1:45:11 - 1:56:04 approx] Either side of that little lot, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara and Harry Stainer to talk about the movies that bring them joy in times of darkness; discuss the week's movie news, in which they say a sad but fond farewell to the legendary Terence Stamp; and review Eddington, The Life Of Chuck, Eenie Meanie, and Sorry, Baby. Oh, and Harry comes up with a novel use for custard. Enjoy.
John Yoo is over in Korea this week, where he says he is "lecturing," but we know he's really just arranging to smuggle back a ton of tariff-free Korean barbecue sauce. So in his absence Steve and Lucretia attempted to hold alive live taping streamed on YouTube (in Steve's case accompanied by Bad Rock rye whisky that "Pizza Bob" supplied directly to him this week), but we missed a technical step in the preparation process and couldn't get it to work. But we have posted the video anyway on our all-new 3WHH Podcast YouTube Channel. And we'll aim to get the livestream option working my next week. In anything case, we did have a small audience join us live on the Zoom webinar, and we fielded a number of listener and reader questions, culminating in a long discussion of good books about the American Founding, to get a jump on the semiquincentennial (250th) anniversary of the Declaration of Independence coming up next July. Steve went with four short books: Edmund Morgan's classic Birth of the Republic, 1763-1789; Martin Diamond's The Founding of the Democratic Republic (hard to find alas); Gordon Wood's The American Revolution: A History (which is both much shorter and better than his famous Creation of the American Republic); and Larry Arnn's The Founders' Key: The Divine and Natural Connection Between the Declaration and the Constitution and What We Risk by Losing It. Lucretia offered up her oral history of how the founding ought to be understood and more importantly taught to students, before settling on a challenging new book. Edward Erler's Prophetic Statesmanship: Harry Jaffa, Abraham Lincoln, and the Gettysburg Address, which doesn't sound like it's about the American Founding, but actually is. And we had a few other stray books to include, which is likely more than our questioner wanted. In any case, much more to come as we draw near to the 250th July 4 next year.

Episode 179: Here She Lies Written by Gracie GlassmeyerWelcome to Dead Pilots Society, the podcast that takes comedy pilots from A-list writers that were sold and developed at networks and streamers but never produced, and gives them the table reads they never got to have. This episode features a pilot from Gracie Glassmeyer. Gracie has written for Ghosts and The Neighborhood, with previous credits including Jane the Virgin, Happy Together, and Impastor. She's joined by Dustin Ybarra (One Day at a Time, We Bought a Zoo) as the agoraphobic co-lead. The rest of the ensemble is a powerhouse Dead Pilots Society lineup: Rachel Keller (Legion, Tokyo Vice), Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest), Oscar Montoya (Minx, Star Trek: Lower Decks), Joy Osmanski (1923, Ghosts), Katherine Bourne Taylor (The Ms. Pat Show), and Marcus Bishop-Wright (Bring on the Damned!).Video of this Zoom read is available to Maximum Fun members along with exclusive bonus content from past years. Simon Scriver's Amazingly Ultimate Fundraising Superstar Podcast
Welcome to the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast, today, we've got something a little bit different for you. To celebrate our upcoming recruitment and careers conference coming up on Thursday 20th November, we've decided to hand the mic over to our guest host Rory White in this special series of episodes called 'It Started On The Street'. Rory will be chatting to some brilliant leaders in the charity sector and beyond about their journeys since they started their careers as dialogue fundraisers. "It was such a pleasure talking with Alf Cowan. In fact, our conversation went on so long we had to restart the Zoom because we ran out of time — I think we ended up talking for a couple of hours! Alf is a really thoughtful guy. After university — where he studied business — he unexpectedly found himself working in face-to-face fundraising, which was a real revelation for him at the time. From there he moved into the charity sector, working directly for charities on their face-to-face programs, before transitioning into more of a data and analytics focus. Today, Alf is Head of Charities at MediaLab, but he still draws heavily on his early face-to-face experience. He regularly visits frontline teams to stay connected to that perspective, and it really informs the campaigns he creates for clients. He's insightful, reflective, and a genuinely nice person to talk to. I think you'll really enjoy this conversation with Alf Cowan" You can learn more about our upcoming Fundraising Recruitment and Careers Conference happening on Thursday 20th November here If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to hit follow and enable notifications so you'll get notified to be first to hear of future podcast episodes. We'd love to see you back again! And thank you to our friends at JustGiving who make the Fundraising Everywhere Podcast possible.

Summer scrambled us, Slushies, from UAE to North Carolina, from D.C. to Scotland and back, from North Carolina to New York City, and to Philly, of course. Phew! Sam has just returned after a month-long residency through the Hawthornden Foundation in Scotland in an actual castle where she worked on her novel. The crew came together on Zoom to discuss two poems by Elvira Basevich, “Beautiful Girls” and “Pallas Athena”. The first poem transports Kathy and Marion to their teenage days on the Jersey shore. For Marion, the ending of the poem with its Beauty in the bathroom mirror, recalls the energy of Ada Limón's “How to Triumph like a Girl”. The discussion of “Pallas Athena” notes the poem's foresight to mark a memory as it's made, which sends Marion to Wordsworth's Tintern Abbey and has Lisa mis-marking that poem as the one with daffodils. Imagining the future while in the past also reminds Marion of André Aciman's discussion of arbitrage and Tintern Abbey in the New Yorker. We talk about endings, Slushies, and how hard it is to nail the dismount. Last but not least, we celebrate the release of Marion's new book of poems, Gladiola Girls, with a group photo. Be sure to check out the picture to peep how Kathy's chrome manicure matches the book's color scheme. At the table: Kathleen Volk Miller, Marion Wrenn, Samantha Neugebauer, Lisa Zerkle, and Sebastian Rametta (sound engineer) Elvira Basevich is assistant professor of philosophy at University of California, Davis. Her first poetry collection, How to Love the World (Pank 2020), was shortlisted for the National Jewish Book Award. Her poems have recently appeared in Pleiades, On the Seawall, Diode, & The Laurel Review. Lately, she's been writing a lot about her father who returned to Russia years ago without saying goodbye. Website: www.elvirabasevich.com Instagram: @elvirabasevich BEAUTIFUL GIRLS I used to line up with teenage girls on the boardwalk like oysters on the half shell. We kissed each other for practice. We guessed how much nakedness we could fit inside our mouths, swallow whole or spit out. These are some of my best memories. Sitting on lifeguard chairs till dusk talking about life. Dates, gulls, the milky surf came to us, but they had to climb a ladder to our perch. Bring an offering of beer and cigarettes. Even then, we admitted few. Our bodies were a salvation then, a cause for celebration, something new to smell and taste and touch every morning, the threshold of a pagan's afterlife: an all-you-can-eat buffet of physical pleasures. All these years later, even without the hours of applying makeup in the bathroom mirror, matching mesh crop tops to low risers, taking selfies, I feel so beautiful. I don't mean that metaphorically, as in Plato's description of a beautiful soul as a chariot pulled by two winged horses, but the real, pulsating thing: the Beauty who looks back from the bathroom mirror and smiles. PALLAS ATHENA We tracked deer in the snow, studied philosophy and mathematics. Like you, I inherited my father's passions: the love of war, physical beauty, America's Funniest Home Videos. I can still hear his laughter in a hotel in upstate New York on our only family trip. Soviet émigrés with blue hair and adult grandchildren preferred to speak in English and eat hot dogs and hamburgers rather than piroshki and cold cuts with slivers of wobbly jellied fat. We ice skated among pine trees and rooks. Napped in cots before waiting in a buffet line in a wood-paneled cafeteria. Pallas, that weekend you took care of me like a big sister. You showed me a bloom of wildflowers by the frozen river, a dusk replete with angels, reminders that this too won't last, but it will become my favorite memory of my father. That was your greatest strength: to have the foresight to remember a moment as it faded. You didn't judge me when I left all my doors and windows open and called out to my father, Come in. That sometimes we don't choose the angels that we believe in, as a house does not choose the ghosts who wander its halls.

This week I'm joined by Alana Newhouse, journalist, cultural critic, and founder/editor-in-chief of Tablet Magazine. Since launching Tablet in 2009, Alana has carved out a space for nuanced and surprising reporting on Jewish identity and the larger cultural questions shaping those issues, as well as the broader issues of our time. We discuss her 2021 essay, Everything Is Broken, in which she diagnoses systemic failures in medicine, media, education, and culture. Alana traces these breakdowns to a pervasive cultural force she calls flatness — the drive toward frictionless interaction, simplified narratives, and ideological conformity. Drawing from her own story of navigating a medical crisis with her own child, Alana exposes how even privileged, insured families can be failed by institutions. She also offers a blueprint for repair: embracing complexity, friction, unpredictability, and deep creative engagement. Alana will be a guest speaker at our Unspeakeasy Small Gathering for Big Ideas weekend, October 11-12 in New York City. Programming and ticketing info here. Title: Million Dollar Monday - Eli Facenda Summary: In this Million Dollar Monday episode, Seth Bradley interviews Eli Facenda, who shares that he made his first million through an international youth sports tour company. The business was growing fast until COVID wiped it out completely. He made his last million through his current business, which helps entrepreneurs use credit card points to take luxury trips for a fraction of the cost. Now, Eli is focused on making his next million by scaling the same business through lower-ticket, community-driven, and digital products, while maintaining his high-ticket services. Links to Watch and Subscribe: https://youtu.be/o8qmXoQf8LE Bullet Point Highlights: First Million: Built through a youth sports international tour company (pre-COVID) Business Model: Organized overseas travel for youth teams and families Impact of COVID: Entire business was decimated by travel restrictions Last Million: Made via a business helping entrepreneurs maximize credit card points for luxury travel High-ticket offers: $5K–$15K services, hit $1M revenue in 2024 Next Million Strategy: Scale through lower-ticket products, community offerings, and digital content (YouTube, affiliates) Goal: Reach more people without sacrificing service quality at the high-ticket level Approach: Reverse path—starting high-ticket, moving into scalable, lower-ticket reach Transcript: Seth Bradley (00:00.16) Welcome to Million Dollar Monday with Eli Facenda. Let's just jump right in. Let's do it. Yeah. How did you make your first million? So I actually made my first million in a tour company. Now I made the first million. I didn't get to keep the first million, but what we were doing, we were running sports trips all over the world. This is actually part of how I fell in love with the travel industry and the work that I'd now do with points. And ultimately what we were doing, we were creating these international tour packages for youth sports teams and families to go on these international tours. So think of like a 14 year old baseball team in your, you're in San Diego. We'd like do a selection of kids. from that area, the families would come and they would go to Japan or Italy or wherever and travel for 10 days, experience the culture, have an educational tour and also play the local teams. So we did that in a variety of sports, ice hockey and baseball and lacrosse, all these different sports and we were growing a lot and then that was ramping right until COVID and that just decimated the entire business. it took us about two years to get to a million and then we started to double almost every year for a few years and that was like, really really tough break in COVID but that was the first night. Man, nobody saw that coming. I No, Eli Facenda (01:09.548) definitely you know group large or large group sports international travel was like the worst potential like you can't go overseas and you definitely can't do it with 60 people so it was a brutal industry to be in Yeah, there were certain sectors that just, I mean, there was nothing you could do. We opened up our first gym actually two weeks before COVID hit in 2020. So we had our, us like two years to open and then our grand opening. And then we had a bunch of free clients in those first two weeks. And then they ended up being free clients for about a year because we couldn't charge them. Cause we couldn't get them back in the gym. We're doing online workouts and all that kind of stuff. Isn't that? Hey, we adapt man. Yeah, the true entrepreneurial muscles are definitely strengthened in times like that though. mean, like the people that bounce back and figure it out, like you just have a new sense of confidence of like, you know, I can handle anything. Yeah, man. I mean, you pivot, right? Like I actually ended up launching my first podcast during COVID because I was stuck inside and it was like, all right, let's do this. Let's get on Zoom and interview people and all that kind of stuff, man. So that leads us right to the next question, man. How'd you make your last million? How'd you make that transition? Yeah, so the last million that I made was in the current business that I have. so essentially what we've been doing there for about four years now is helping entrepreneurs maximize their travel on credit card points. So helping them get their dream bucket list trips, these 30, 40, $50,000 trips all over the world for about 90 % off by leveraging credit card points. And we've traditionally had some pretty high ticket services. I mean, not crazy expensive, but like, Eli Facenda (02:40.046) know, 5, 10, 15K in that range has been the main service. And so we cracked our first million about two years in. So that was 2024. Actually, it was the first year we made a million there. Awesome man, awesome. How about your next million? Where are you scaling to? Yeah, so the next million I want to make is the same business. I love what I do. I really enjoy it. And what I want to do is do it in a more community oriented and lower ticket way. So I want to have bigger reach, more digital products, more of the community, more affiliate services and stuff like that. And I'm really excited about kind of cracking the code on that because we've done it decently with the higher ticket stuff, more agency level service level stuff, which is great. And we're still cranking on that. We're going keep growing it. But I really want to see what we can do with So the lower ticket stuff, creating awesome stuff on YouTube that leads to different channels and distributions there. So that's the next million and same business, just different type of money. love it man. Yeah, that's kind of opposite of how some people approach it, right? You usually start with a lower ticket and then you have to build up that base before anybody will give you, you know, higher, pay for that higher ticket product, but you're kind of working backwards because you want to help more people. Eli Facenda (03:44.398) Totally, exactly. Yeah, there's a limit. mean, what we do in the high ticket is incredible, but it really is a specialized skill. Like you think about like a bookkeeper or an accounting firm or something, there's like a million bookkeepers. There's like 50 people that know points and travel to the level that I need them to know it to really serve clients with the highest level. So there's a real limit on the ability to scale that. It's also just like, we want to be able to do really quality work for less people, but then serve more people with the other stuff too. In the final episode of our international mini-series, we spotlight the student perspective through a powerful conversation with Reine and Leo—outgoing and incoming board members of the MENA Initiative at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. They share their experiences, the successes of organizing student-led events, and the realities of balancing activism with academic life—perspectives we believe deserve a seat at the table. This episode also reflects on our own journey. Back in Season 1, Episode 19 – “Let's Talk Protests,” we discussed student-led demonstrations with the limited knowledge we had at the time. Today, we know that 97% of student-led pro-Palestine demonstrations remain peaceful (ACLED report). While we are not journalists, we are individuals with a platform—and when we learn better, we strive to do better.Throughout this series, we've explored three entry points into activism and politics:1️⃣ Grassroots organizing2️⃣ Political activism3️⃣ Student initiativesEach offers a unique lens into building a just and inclusive future. We wish this conversation could have been longer, as there was so much more to unpack, but we hope you enjoyed listening. If these discussions make you uncomfortable, we invite you to lean in. Dialogue over debate helps us humanize rather than demonize—even when we disagree. Because at the end of the day, we all deserve better!✨ Stay tuned for Season 2 next month! Ever catch yourself in a room full of people but feeling like you're not really connecting?Like you're shaking hands, swapping business cards, maybe even following each other on Instagram, but it's all surface-level?In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I'm diving deep into the network effect—how to build relationships that matter and create real momentum in your life and business. This isn't about being a “networking guru” or collecting the most LinkedIn connections. It's about genuine, value-driven connections that lift you and open doors you didn't even know existed. Over the years, I've been blessed to build friendships with eight-figure entrepreneurs, pro athletes, celebrities, and industry leaders—not by chasing them down, but by showing up authentically, serving first, and playing the long game. And that's exactly what I'm sharing in this episode: the mindset, the framework, and the ninja hacks to level up your network without feeling fake or forced. One of the biggest lessons? Your network is like a bank account—you've gotta make consistent deposits before you can ever make a withdrawal. That means finding ways to add value first, whether it's solving a small problem, sending a thoughtful gift, or making an introduction that could be a game-changer for someone else. Relationships thrive when they're rooted in genuine care, not just what you can get out of them.Another big takeaway is the importance of engaging with intention. Don't be that spammy DM person or the fan who only asks for favors. Start small—comment on their posts, share their work, send a short video or audio message. These personal touches break through the noise and show that you're a real human, not just another contact request.I also share why you should connect like-minded people in your network, even when it doesn't directly benefit you. Some of my strongest relationships were built on simply being the bridge between two people who could help each other. The value you create in those moments always comes back around. And here's a hack you can start using today: stop sleeping on new connections. There's a short window after you meet someone where the relationship is most likely to stick. How do you find joy when the diagnosis feels devastating? How can you become the joyful person God calls you to be—even in the midst of your deepest pain?Author Margaret Feinberg was nearing the completion of a book on joy when she received a life-altering diagnosis: aggressive cancer. What followed was a profound season of wrestling—an honest, raw search to understand what joy truly means when suffering feels overwhelming. Through that journey, Margaret discovered a deeper, more authentic belief about joy: that it can be a defiant act of worship in the darkest valleys. And when we choose to give joy away—even when we don't feel it—our own joy can begin to grow.In the midst of her pain, Margaret encountered the transformative power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Her latest book, **The God You Need to Know: Experience the Holy Spirit's Power and Presence Today**, invites readers to experience that same presence no matter what they're walking through. In this uplifting conversation, Davey and Margaret discuss how to truly show up for others in ways that heal rather than hurt, where joy can be found in suffering, and how to navigate the lingering fear that often follows hardship. If you're in a season where joy feels distant, this episode will encourage you to see that even small acts of sharing joy with others can help awaken it in your own heart as you walk through suffering. If you're still waiting for someone to save democracy, Mona Eltahawy has news for you: you are the one you've been waiting for. A fearless Egyptian-American journalist and author of The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls and her latest book Bloody Hell!: Adventures in Menopause From Around the World, Eltahawy is no stranger to authoritarianism. While covering Arab Spring protests in Cairo, she was seized by Egyptian security forces and sexually assaulted and beaten, her arm and hand broken. Now, she warns, America is slipping toward the same strongman rule in Egypt. And too many are sleepwalking through it. Eltahawy's prescription is feminism that terrifies, carried out by both women and men. Because anyone can be a feminist. This is feminism as revolution. As she puts it, “There is no revolution without rage, and there is no revolution without risk.” Her work urges women to embrace power, ambition, anger, and militant self-defense, not to provoke, but to defend. And for their allies to support them. Learn to protect yourself. Teach your daughters common-sense self-defense and how to take up space. Her hope is that more of us, especially white women in the U.S., will stop cosplaying resistance and start embodying it. “The Handmaid's Tale is not a documentary,” she says. “Get out of the TV and into the streets.” EVENTS AT GASLIT NATION: August 25 4pm ET – Join the Gaslit Nation Book Club for a powerful discussion on The Lives of Others and I'm Still Here, two films that explore how art and love endure and resist in the face of dictatorship. It's Hump Day on the Majority Report Today is Michael Brooks birthday and we are celebrating him by bringing on two of his favorite guests. But first the Trump administration is nominating EJ Antoni for the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics despite a deluge of conservative economists labeling him incompetent. Zoom out from continuing tariff turmoil and Trump's recent attacks on the Fed and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and you'll see a broader new economic order is forming. Political economist and Brown University professor Mark Blyth joins Rapid Response to reveal why outdated models still underpin much of our economic understanding, and what we still misunderstand – and underestimate – about China. Blyth also shares why the Democrats struggle to craft an engaging story about the economy, why it's so hard to predict a recession, and what Brown's recent settlement with the Trump Administration tells us about higher education's need to pivot from its reliance on federal funding.Visit the Rapid Response website here: https://www.rapidresponseshow.com/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
