The gate of the God is the entrance to the spiritual realm that resides inside of the individual, but it may also be expressed as a physical location in the form of a shrine. One of the most interesting studies in religion can be undertaken by studying something that is not a religion, and that is the indigenous practice of Shinto in Japan.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. The United States and the Origins of World War II in Europe (Taylor & Francis, 2025), spans 1914–1939 to provide a concise interpretation of the role the United States played in the origins of the Second World War. It synthesizes recent scholarship about interwar international politics while also presenting an original interpretation of the sources of American policy. The book shows how the drive for international reform, beginning with Woodrow Wilson, reflected both America's unusual power and its fears about maintaining its domestic freedoms in a world dominated by arms races and the threat of war. The American desire to reform or to escape from the existing international system reshaped Europe's balance of power from 1914 to 1929, leaving it precarious and unlikely to produce lasting stability. America's power continued to loom globally in the 1930s, as first its isolationism and, after 1938, its open hostility toward Germany and Japan influenced the policies of the West and of Hitler. The coda at the end of the volume analyzes how the United States affected the strategic choices made by Great Britain, Nazi Germany, and Japan from 1939 to 1941 that globalized the conflict. This book will appeal to undergraduate and graduate students in history and political science, especially courses focused on World War II and the history of U.S. foreign relations. Guest: Ross A. Kennedy (he/him), is a Professor of History and Chair at Illinois State University. In 1538, Gerardus Mercator published a world map that preserved one of the last cartographic witnesses to an ancient truth—labeling the Lequii Populi at 10°N, right in the Philippines, not Japan or Ryukyu. This episode of The Smoking Quill exposes how Jesuit and colonial manipulation led to centuries of geographic confusion, wrongly relocating the Lequios and Zipangu to Japan. But Mercator's early maps, along with Ptolemy's Barusse and Basacata Isles, all point to the Philippines as the ancient Isles of Gold, Aurea Chersonesus. From Barbosa's 1516 identification of the Lequios in Luzon, to Mercator's correction of Ptolemaic errors in 1569, we trace a clear cartographic trail to Luzon, Mindanao, and Palawan as the real ancient lands of gold—Chryse, Barusse, and Basacata.

Susan Choi joins Kate Wolf and Medaya Ocher to speak about her new novel, Flashlight. An epic story that spans multiple generations of a single family, the book is an astute exploration of identity, migration, memory, kinship and the irrepressibility of the past. It begins in the wake of the mysterious disappearance of a young academic named Serk. An ethnic Korean, who was raised in Japan and decided to continue his studies there when his family returned to Korea after WWII, Serk later moves to the US and marries Anne, who is also estranged from her family and has her own secrets. Their daughter, Louisa, is with her father on the night of his disappearance, from a beach back in Japan, where the family has come for Serk's year-long academic appointment. Washing up on the shore in the morning, Louisa has little memory of what has taken place, and it will take her many decades, and the course of the novel, to discover the truth.

Lured Up Podcast 351Live Streamed on - 6/25/25Publish Date - 6/27/27This week Ken is joined by Jamal Harvey of the Wayspotters Podcast! Jamal sits in for Adam and joins the fray to dive into the last week of Pokémon GO action. We kick things off with a gameplay recap, touching on Yamper's Paw Prints, Jangmo-o Community Day, and the start of Ancients Recovered. All of this action is coming just a week before GO Fest Global, which calls for Trainers to really put a lot of gameplay and potential spending on the table. As we gear up for Global we cover additional details on the Ultra Unlocks, as July content is just around the corner. While Niantic has shared their July Content update, there is still plenty of content left in June. Global Challenges and Ultra Unlocks make their return for Global, and we have dates in July for events that can be boosted if we meet the criteria. With Trainer's 100% track record of completing the Global Challenges, we are confident that we will see all three tiers of Ultra Unlocks impact future events. Thanks to Niantic, we are giving away GO Fest: Global tickets across our social media channels. Make sure you check out LuredUp.com for links to everywhere you can enter! There are a few bits of miscellaneous news to cover this week as we peek into the July Content Update. Quaxly has been picked as the January Community Day Pokémon. Europe follows Japan's lead and is hosting their own stamp rally, as Americans patiently wait their turn to take part in this cool new feature. A wild story has rocked the Wayfarer World as gameboards near a few different Marine bases have been wiped clean. With adjacent towns that have completely built gameboards being impacted, we are hoping that this isn't something that continues. We speculate on what can be the cause, we have a quick one-liner from Niantic in the forums, pretty much telling us that there is nothing they can do, and that Trainers should move on from their concerns. We all know however, that Wayfinders aren't the type to not jump head first down the rabbit hole.Yamper's Paw PrintsAncients RecoveredCommunity Day: Jangmo-oGO Fest GlobalUltra UnlocksAdventure EffectsGlobal Ticket GiveawayCommunity Ambassador Video9th Anniversary EventJuly Content UpdateCommunity Day: QuaxlyStamp RallyJacksonville, NCLuredUp@PokemonProfessor.com Voicemail and SMS: 732-835-8639 Use code FULLHEAL at https://tgacards.com/ for 10% off your order!Connect with us on multiple platforms! https://linktr.ee/PokemonProfessorNetwork HostsKen PescatoreAdam TuttleWriter and ProducerKen PescatoreExecutive Producer XanderShow music provided by GameChops and licensed through Creative Commons▾ FOLLOW GAMECHOPS ▾http://instagram.com/GameChopshttp://twitter.com/GameChopshttp://soundcloud.com/GameChopshttp://facebook.com/GameChopshttp://youtube.com/GameChopshttp://www.gamechops.comIntro MusicLake Verity (Drum & Bass Remix) TetracaseGameChops - Ultraballhttp://gamechops.com/ultraball/https://soundcloud.com/tetracase https://soundcloud.com/MegaFlare0Break MusicNational ParkMikel & GameChopsGameChops - Poké & Chillhttp://smarturl.it/pokechillhttps://twitter.com/mikel_beatsOutro MusicVast Poni CanyonCG5 & GlitchxCity (Future Bass Remix)GameChops - Ultraballhttp://gamechops.com/ultraball/ http://soundcloud.com/cg5-beatshttps://soundcloud.com/glitchxcityPokémon And All Respective Names are Trademark and © of Nintendo 1996-2025 Pokémon GO is Trademark and © of Niantic, Inc.Lured Up and the Pokémon Professor Network are not affiliated with Niantic Inc., The Pokémon Company, Game Freak or Nintendo.#pokemon #pokemongo #podcast

Japan exhibited some disinflation with the June Tokyo consumer price data. Using the international definition of core inflation, the rate slowed to 1.8% y/y. A lot of the headline inflation seems to be driven by non-fresh food, perhaps suggesting relative price shifts rather than strong, broad inflation momentum.

China has long criticised the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, or NATO, for drawing Indo-Pacific countries—Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand—into its orbit. From Beijing's perspective, this marks a troubling effort to export Western military influence to Asia and to contain China's rise. Among Chinese observers, the prospect of Japan aligning more closely with NATO has sparked particular concern. A commentary published on Baidu Baijiahao pointed to NATO's evolution from a regional defence bloc into what is now seen as an overstretched force projecting power far beyond the North Atlantic. Japan's increasing proximity to NATO and its willingness to speak on China's internal affairs are cast as foreign interference with potentially destabilising consequences. On the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, a post framed Japan's engagement with NATO as part of an inflated narrative of China's threat.----more----Read full article here: https://theprint.in/opinion/eye-on-china/japan-nato-not-indo-pacific-ties-china-us/2669010/

While Pennsylvania lawmakers haggle over the state budget, liberal advocacy groups are using protests to call for higher taxes on billionaires to fund public services. In 1979, Three Mile Island was the site of what is often called the worst nuclear power accident on U.S. soil. Our colleague Jaxon White, from LNP | LancasterOnline, has the latest on the restarting of the Island’s nuclear reactor. Environmental groups say Tokyo-based Nippon Steel’s recent purchase of U.S. Steel should lead to cleaner operations at the company’s Pittsburgh-area plants. But they haven’t heard much from the Japanese steelmaker. New disclosures with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission show President Trump will control the so-called “golden share," as part of the national security agreement under which he allowed Japan-based Nippon Steel to buy out iconic American steelmaker U.S. Steel. With the state budget deadline approaching, the company that owns “skill game” terminals throughout Pennsylvania says lawmakers have pushed it out of discussions on how the industry should be regulated. Taxing the casino-style games is a key part of Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget, one that would raise hundreds of millions of dollars to fund schools and public transit. The former captain of a Dauphin County fire company is wanted by police after missing two court appearances earlier this year. A Dauphin County judge issued a bench warrant for 55-year-old Steven Bartholomew’s arrest in March. He's accused of driving firetrucks for the Paxtang Fire Company No. 1 several times in 2024 without a valid driver’s license.
