Si passa da No Other Choice di Park Chan-wook a Pillion con Alexander Skarsgård e Harry Melling, da The Rip con Matt Damon e Ben Affleck a Peaky Blinders, Project Hail Mary, The Bride, The Madison, Dutton Ranch, Hacks, Good Omens 3, Mortal Kombat 2, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, The Four Seasons, How to Make a Killing e molti altri titoli usciti tra cinema, streaming, animazione, horror, action e serie TV. Una puntata “tutti frutti summer love”, nel senso che non c'è un filo logico vero se non quello più importante: capire cosa ci ha convinto, cosa ci ha deluso e cosa consigliamo davvero dopo averlo visto. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's June, so that means it's time for our “Junesis” series! Where we cover movies based on/revolving around video games! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and first time guest Gordon Jones discuss the first ever video game movie sequel, 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation! Daddy issues! Cyber Ninjas! A hot goth baddie! Animalities! A lady with four arms kinda! Speedy sleeve removal! Goofy cybernetically-enhanced arms! Abundant flips! Evil eyebrows! Weird gyroscopic transport spheres! Surprise landmarks! Fun miniature FX! Cheesy designs and poorly executed CGI monsters! Excessive use of possibly one sandpit! Fun sets! Extra budget for campiness! An occasionally imposing villain! Awkward attempts to emulate gameplay! Shockingly few fatalities! An iconic soundtrack that does a lot of heavy lifting! Very noticeable recasting! Nearly-great fight scenes featuring stunt performances from future action movie legends Tony Jaa and The Furious director Kenji Tanigaki! All that and more in this infamous sequel that resulted in Paul W.S. Anderson holding onto the Resident Evil franchise like his life depended on it! In addition, the gang shares some spoiler-free thoughts on Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride, Backrooms, and Travis Knight's Masters of the Universe, while Alex declares his new found love for the filmography of Korean director Ryoo Seung-wan, including Humint, Veteran, I, the Executioner, The City of Violence, The Battleship Island, and Escape from Mogadishu! 221 - MORTAL KOMBAT 2, DEREK JOINS LETTERBOXD, NEW WILL FERRELL MOVIE AND MORE! by Ahsohn Williams
This week on Moviewallas, Joe, Rashmi, and Yazdi are finally back together and tackling a packed slate of movies and music documentaries. First up is Mortal Kombat 2, the latest entry in the long-running video game franchise. Does it deliver the over-the-top action fans are hoping for, or is it another missed opportunity? Next, the team discusses Pressure, a tense historical drama set around the D-Day invasion that explores the enormous responsibility placed on the meteorologists whose forecasts helped shape the course of history. Then it's time for Tuner, an intimate character-driven drama that sparks a lively discussion about performance, relationships, and the choices we make when our lives begin to drift out of tune. Finally, the hosts dive into Boy George and Culture Club, a fascinating documentary chronicling the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of one of the most distinctive bands of the 1980s. From the New Romantic movement to personal relationships within the band, it's a revealing look at the people behind the music. As always, expect plenty of movie banter, strong opinions, and a few unexpected tangents along the way. Adeline Rudolph just made quite the leap as far as video game adaptations go. While things didn't pan out well for Netflix's Resident Evil series, which was canceled after just one season in 2022, Mortal Kombat II is cruising at the box office. In 2021, director Simon McQuoid kicked off a new iteration of Mortal Kombat feature films with a movie focused on Cole Young (Lewis Tan) that also included a slew of other fan-favorite characters like Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), and many more. Rudolph didn't just join that ensemble via 2026's Mortal Kombat II. She headlines the film opposite Karl Urban's Johnny Cage. While Johnny Cage's evolution is the focal point of the Earth Realm storyline, Kitana's experience is the heart and soul of the Outworld material and, ultimately, it's Kitana who brings the two sides together. In celebration of Mortal Kombat II's wide release, Rudolph swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to discuss her journey as an actor thus far, including making her screen debut via The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and lessons learned from Netflix's Resident Evil that she was able to apply to Mortal Kombat II. She also offered up some behind-the-scenes insight into all of Kitana's biggest moments in the movie, which included the film's final shot — all the main characters joining forces to bring back fallen champions. I'm catching up on your voicemails, podcast stickers are here, and MxPx is on every Vans Warped Tour date this summer and fall. Amelia asked what video games I play, which took me from Pong through Zelda, Skate or Die, Mortal Kombat, Madden, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater. I was a fan before we were ever on the soundtrack. Rich asked which bass got the first Pokinatcha Punk pick guard, so I go through my StingRay history, from the first one I put on layaway to my Sterling by Music Man signature bass. David Herrera (no relation) called asking for some advice for his son who's playing bass at 16: keep it simple, keep it fun, and be consistent every day. Nate's car stereo ate his CD, which got me telling the story of microwaving rejected mixes during Panic and how one of those CDs became the album art. And Frank asked why I switched from fingers to a pick (I smashed my finger in a bus door). --------------------- ON TOUR Vans Warped Tour - every date, summer and fall 2026 - see you at the main stage Punkadeka Festival - Milan, Italy - Saturday, September 5, 2026 Tickets and merch: mxpx.com

This Christian-leaning film directed by a martial arts expert preaches a confusing mix of liberal pro-science atheism and Christian deism that would be way more interesting if the fight scenes weren't such a slog. It's too bad because ABSOLUTE DOMINION has so much good going for it. Director Lexi Alexander has a genuinely interesting career and an obvious expertise and passion for combat sports. Her most notable film is possibly PUNISHER: WAR ZONE (2008), a commercial failure at the time that has since become a cult classic. She was notable for being the first female director of a Marvel franchise film, but the gritty and hyper-violent take on PUNISHER didn't land well with critics or audiences. Alexander had some famous defenders though -- comedian Patton Oswalt has repeatedly gone on record praising the film. It's probably not a coincidence that he and fellow celebrity fan Alex Winter both appear in ABSOLUTE DOMINION in supporting roles. We hypothesize that both jumped at the chance to support a new Lexi Alexander project with an interesting script. In ABSOLUTE DOMINION, Oswalt plays a fictional influencer/streamer named Fix Huntley who goes viral in the year 2085 AD pitching the idea for a worldwide martial arts tournament where the major world religions each send a champion to fight for religious dominance. In the war-torn dystopian future of 2085, society jumps at the chance for a civil Mortal Kombat-style tournament instead of scattered warfare and bloodshed. The three major world religions, Celestians, Pentotities, and Dashafaris, all send champions, but a last-minute rogue entry named Sagan Bruno steals the show. Sagan represents the Institute for Humanism in Science -- a perfect fighter born of a eugenics project, to a scientist mother and athlete father, neither of which have a relationship with him. Bruno quickly jumps to the top of the competition, but his worldview is rocked when blessings from a supernatural force begin to guide his combat. Could this force be none other than capital "G" God? Or is it just a miracle of logic and reason? It's too bad ABSOLUTE DOMINION couldn't stick the landing because it is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air in a sea of Christian movies with the exact same stereotypical evangelical perspective. Mike shares what he believes to be the Top Cult Classics that defined the 2000s. These are the movies that either confused audiences, got dumped by studios, or flat-out failed at the box office… but later became beloved cult classics through DVD, cable, streaming, memes, and word-of-mouth. Mike talks to Emile Hirsch who talks about his love of the video store as a kid, landing the role of Speed Racer, working with his heroes, getting an early start as a child actor and his roles in Lords of Dogtown and Into the Wild. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Mortal Kombat 2. Johnny Cage joins other fighters in the ultimate, no-holds-barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a powerful tyrant who threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders. Mike shares why unfortunately it wasn’t better than part 1, Karl Urban’s lackluster performance and why it feels like an off brand Avengers Infinity War. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan. Odysseus, king of Ithaca, embarks on a perilous journey to return home after the Trojan War. Mike shares why he is now hype for the movie after he initially thought it was going to be a snooze fest. New Episodes Every Monday! FOLLOW UP: This week, it seems America believes every complicated social problem can be fixed by asking, “Have you tried turning the internet off for the children?” Meanwhile, the Electronic Frontier Foundation quietly notes that the science behind social media bans might not be as clear-cut as cable-news dads screaming about dopamine loops claim. Turns out, teen anxiety may also be linked to pandemics, school shootings, climate dread, and an economy that feels like a Fallout side quest. Meanwhile, Snap Inc. and YouTube settled another lawsuit accusing their apps of turning kids into doomscrolling goblins, Meta continues to insist social media addiction isn't real while losing money in court, and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt was booed at a graduation speech after telling graduates to hop on the AI rocket ship without asking questions — exactly what a billionaire says when he already owns the rocket. In the news, Elon Musk lost another OpenAI lawsuit because apparently even juries have limits. SpaceX's IPO revealed Musk plans to power AI with enough gas turbines to recreate 1890s London smog, and Grok officially became a disclosure liability after the whole “MechaHitler” incident. Tesla robotaxis still clip fences and occasionally require humans to remotely drive the “self-driving” cars. Trump Mobile somehow shipped a gold phone that actually works — a stunning upset — before immediately leaking customer data. LinkedIn finally admitted the platform has become an AI-generated motivational swamp filled with “it's not about X, it's about Y” sludge from people named Brayden. Spotify is handing out podcast verification badges so listeners can tell real creators from algorithmic nightmare fuel. Meta laid off thousands more workers while reportedly using employee surveillance to train AI replacements. And OpenAI is giving everyone in Malta a free year of ChatGPT Plus if they complete an AI literacy course, which honestly makes Malta sound more technologically responsible than Silicon Valley.APPS & DOODADS reflect classic Gen-X paranoia, as Backblaze highlights California's constant threat of wildfires and the idea that local backups are optimistic. YouTube introduced AI deepfake detection tools, allowing creators to finally see which scam ads are using their faces to promote crypto vitamins, while X limited free users to 50 posts a day unless they pay for a blue check — proving once again that the true free speech was the subscriptions we sold along the way. Retrocodex arrived with a strong “everything your teachers confidently told you in 1987 was wrong” vibe.MEDIA CANDY opens with the eternal cry of “FUCK THE FIRETV!!!!” before Jason taps out of Good Omens after ten minutes while Brian takes the bullet for the audience. There's also chatter about Mortal Kombat 2, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Billy Corgan talking goth history with David J, and more existential dread courtesy of Dan Carlin's Common Sense.THE DARK SIDE WITH DAVE welcomes back Dave Bittner for a Mando & Grogu review, Darth Maul, and a stunning but absurdly expensive LEGO Disneyland set. There's also a guy who built a full-size Millennium Falcon “with his wife's permission,” a fan-made Star Tours film, and the Federal Trade Commission discovering that those creepy “your phone is listening to you” ad-tech companies mainly just had PowerPoint decks and confidence. Also: mechanical keyboard simulators now exist, because apparently even fake typing has become a lifestyle brand.Sponsors:DeleteMe - Get 20% off your DeleteMe plan when you go to JoinDeleteMe.com/GOG and use promo code GOG at checkout.Shopify - Sign up for your one-dollar-per-month trial today at Shopify.com/grumpyPrivate Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. MORTAL KOMBAT! Comedian Cameron Esposito enters the fighting arena with Paul, June, and Jason to dissect 1995's Mortal Kombat, the stinker movie adaptation of the beloved video game. They discuss the anticlimactic fight with Goro, Christopher Lambert's wig, and how the mortals are unfazed by the supernatural. Plus, we learn about June's relationship with video games, find out Jason's thoughts on the soundtrack, and hear an amazing Second Opinion review.
