E96 | Why Electricians In Social Housing Are Paid The Least Money! Kimmy never planned on being an electrician in construction, but after seeing what electrician installers were earning at the business she worked at.. she decided she wanted a slice of that rather lucrative pie! After being allowed to shadow the installers, she enrolled at College to obtain her electrician qualification, but realised she'd need an apprenticeship. Unable to find one locally, she thought of a way to not only get one, but make good money in the process. Kimmy goes on to describe her career as an electrician in the trades, including what really happens when working in Social Housing, how she was awarded the On The Tools 'Electrician of the Year' 2024 award, and how she is able to comfortably work only 2 days a week due to her social media earnings. Trade Talk | Home Improvement Shows | What Really Happens Behind The Scenes! Laura Jane Clark sat down with @MJTiffPlumbing earlier this year to discuss her career in Television and construction. She has worked on several high profile 'home renovation' shows across various networks, helping out with designs, planning, and the physical construction. Unfortunately, however, she noticed that her appearances in the home renovation shows were being dramatically cut, to a point where she knew she had to speak up.. and in so doing, she "burned her bridges quite severely." E92 | In this week's episode of the Trade Legends podcast, Mark @MJTiffPlumbing sat down with plumber Nathan @NNPlumber to discuss his ongoing battle against Cancer (Non-Hodgkin lymphoma) whilst working as a tradesman within the construction industry. Chemotherapy and Construction. My Non-Hodgkin lymphoma battle as a PLUMBER. In the UK, the lifetime risk of developing cancer is approximately 1 in 2, according to Cancer Research UK. Nathan is a young plumber in the construction industry, and in early 2024 he noticed a little pain in his lower back. He thought little of it, as every tradesman in the construction industry gets a bad back from time to time. The pain failed to subside, and after many weeks of debilitating pain and endless doctors appointments, Nathan finally discovered what was causing him so much discomfort. He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (a cancer of the blood) and Nathan now knew that he had a real battle on his hands. He would have to stop working as a plumber, undergo 6 months of chemotherapy, and finally undergo an intense course of radiotherapy to destroy the tumours that had built up on his spine. Nathan now wants to educate people in the trades on a topic that he himself knew nothing about. As the earlier statement read, cancer will affect 1 in 2 people, so educating ourselves on the topic is paramount. E91 | Plumbing has DESTROYED my body. It's time to GIVE IT UP -Battle of the Podcasts- "We f**kin' hate you lot!" In this week's episode, Alex and Mark sit down with gas engineer Kieran, and plumber Pete from @OffTheJobpodcastuk Kieran initially planned on being an electrician, but after working as a labourer with a plumber, he decided to pursue a career as a plumber and gas engineer, and after completing his apprenticeship he decided to set up his own business. We spoke to Pete back in Episode 43, where he discussed how he became a plumber in the construction industry, but also how he knew that he wouldn't be able to stay working in the trades forever. Pete now knows that within 2 years, he will be off the tools completely. The guys started their podcast around 1 year ago, after a chance meeting at a trades event where Kieran was speaking. "Who's this f**kin' wally..." Pete thought to himself. Little did he know that in a matter of months he would be co-hosting a successful trades podcast with him. #tradesman #construction #podcast Guests this week: Kieran and Pete @OffTheJobpodcastuk Hosts: Alex @alexinsley Mark @MJTiffPlumbing ⭐ Supported by Tradify | https://tradifyhq.com/ | @TradifyHQ

Brett highlights the importance of team building, hiring moderators, marketers, and customer service staff to scale operations effectively. He stresses balancing customer satisfaction with operational efficiency and adapting to industry challenges. You have actually been playing our music since our first album in 2015 and we are very grateful Just noticed though that in both of these latest podcasts, you are linking to the wrong band. River G. emailed an Android podcatcher recommendation: "Marc, Just a quick recommendation of another great podcast app on Android. It's called AntennaPod and is truly free. I attached a screenshot so people know what the icon looks like. (It may also be on IOS, but I'm not sure.) Shel O'Toole emailed: "Hi Marc, I usually listen to your show when I'm working from home but podcast # 681 Lady of the House I saved for my drive back home from a visit to my sister. Listening to the music brought memories of my father who played numerous instruments, solo and with others. The banjo was my favourite (which Is probably why I play banjo), followed by the accordion, he had both button and piano accordions, and the fiddle. He also played harmonica, piano and even the gum leaf (definitely an Australian thing). I took my father's violin which I had restored recently so my sister could see it for herself. It was in a terrible state when it came to me but its voice is restored and it's very pleasant. Now the challenge of learning to play. I look forward to the podcast every week, so thanks Marc for all you do and for the magic you create in weaving together the music of Ireland and the music influenced by Ireland and the stories of the people who are touched by the force of the Celts. Warm regards"
E88 | SUICIDE in CONSTRUCTION Trade | The BIGGEST DANGER in the TRADES "Nobody asked me how I was." www.thelostcity.org "Lets save the next 7000." #thelostcity 7000 tradesmen have taken their own lives over the last 10 years. That's 2 tradesmen every day : enough trades people to build a city the size of Cardiff. - Project 7000 | The Lost City - "The construction industry has a suicide rate four times the national average. It's a crisis, but one that's relatively unknown outside the industry. By visualising exactly what they could have built, The Lost City addresses this crisis, showing the true scale of construction suicides. This is the city that could exist if the construction suicide crisis didn't." In this week's Trade Legends episode, we discuss Mental Health within the construction industry with a few familiar faces - Lee @OnTheToolsOfficial , Kryss and James. Both Kryss and James contemplated, and even attempted to take their own lives. Each guest explains how they found themselves in that situation, but also how they were able to find the professional help that ultimately saved their lives. 'Project 7000' aims to highlight these issues within construction, bringing to light the horrific statistics regarding mental health within the trades. The aim of the project? To raise £2.5 million to help anyone in the trades who feels they have nowhere to turn. Whether you're a plumber, electrician, carpenter, bricklayer or in any other trade... DO NOT SUFFER ALONE. HOW TO GET INTO PLUMBING & becoming my own APPRENTICE Like most young people, Dave @boilerstobathrooms6267 had no idea what he wanted to do as a Career or hat to be an apprentice in. Luckily for him, his mother was prepared for such a situation - "Plumbing David, it pays well!"...so a plumbing apprentiship it was. It wasn't, however, as simple as that, plumbing it was. Dave struggled to find a plumbing Apprenticeship in the local area; something that he would require in order to become a fully qualified Plumber and Gas Engineer in the construction trade. "Well..." David thought, "Perhaps I could become my own Apprentice." Now, that might sound like something thought up during a drunken stupor, however it was exactly what Dave would go on do. He set up his own plumbing company, and employed himself to be his own plumbing Apprentice. Once he had his portfolio signed off, he would go on to complete his studies and become a fully qualified Plumber and Gas Engineer in the plumbing trade. But this was just the start of an eventful journey for Dave. Over the next few years, he would experience the horrors of Social Housing, the challenges of on-call work, angry and aggressive customers, and the importance of managing your finances. Yet somehow, with all this going on around him, Dave was able to create a piece of plumbing literature which would revolutionise the lives of so many Tradespeople from plumbers to electricians. "What piece of Literature?" I hear you ask. The aptly named... 'Breakdown Bible.' A Must for plumbers! ABOUT THE NEW ADS IN THE PUBLIC FEED If you've been listening to the show over the last couple of weeks, you will have noticed something new to the show. Ads placed at the beginning and ending of each episode. The show has been published regularly for almost 19 years with very few ads, outside of those for my Celtic Invasion Vacations and Patreon. I'll be honest. I'm not a huge fan of advertising…or corporations in general. And I'm still deciding whether I'm gonna continue having ads in the show. The fact is that this podcast costs a decent amount to produce as I'll tell you about later. We've built something incredible here. We have a large number of Patrons of the Podcast who support this show each and every week. It's mind - blowing the amount of support this show gets. But it doesn't cover all of my expenses. And there's so much more I'd like to do to reach more Celtic music fans, which requires money. This would be one way to help us grow our podcast. So if you don't like those ads, please become a Patron of the Podcast, because they are not included in any of the Patreon shows. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! You are amazing. Ben Doran messaged on Facebook: “When I received the "music only version" of the "The Gaelic Blessing" podcast, I was immediately reminded of one of the most moving arrangements of The Irish Blessing that I have heard - - by Bill O'Connor and Larry Theiss on their – "Traditional And Original" recording. I am getting ready to have a day off tomorrow and will get to chores and baking for the "Wild Hog in the Woods" usual Friday night concert that we host at a neighborhood center here in Madison. While I am mixing and baking, I'll surely/certainly listen to that "Gaelic Blessing" program in its entirety. Thanks!” Ryan S. emailed some photos: "Hi Marc. I love the Celtic Women episodes!! I am currently building trails outside of austin while I listen to the cast.the spring flowers are already out!" Shel O'Toole emailed a photo: "Hi Marc, As I'm listening today I'm promoting the International Women's Day event I organised for the Ballarat and District Irish Association. The all women trio I play with, Skedaddle is performing on the day. I'm also looking at ways to promote my newly released poetry book Wildsong. I'll be officially launching it at the IWD lunch. I'm loving the Celtic Women special. There's so many fabulous Irish women singers and musicians. Noirin Ni Rian, the sean - ós singer and chanter, Sandra Joyce singer and bodhran player are two amazing teachers I met at the Irish World Music Summer School - Blas, many years ago. Niamh Parsons & Delores Keane are firm favourites & I love discovering new female artists. I'll probably go to a session on St Patrick's day and there's a band playing at one of the Irish pubs in the evening I want to see. Sliánte"

Rod shares his entrepreneurial journey, from his college days dabbling in micro-businesses to starting his own flooring company during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hey all and welcome to Episode 46 of The Air Conditioning Podcast! In this episode, Brad and Shane have the tables turned on them and were very fortunate to have been asked to be a guest on Behind The Tools Podcast (by Tradify), with the Host and CEO of Tradify, Mr Michael Steckler. Behind the Tools Podcast is an inside look at tradespeople from all over the world. On each episode, they bring on a guest to answer the real questions you have about life in the trades, running a business, and how to overcome the challenges that come with being a tradesperson. In this interview, we chatted about how our own business, Morphett Air started back in 1971 from humble beginnings where our parents worked from home amongst other topics. Until now, we haven't really spoken about our business, so while it felt a little awkward at times, it was a great experience and Michael was a great (and very professional) host. We hope you guys enjoy the episode and urge to you to check out the Behind The Tools Podcast here. Thanks guys and have a great weekend!
