Getting fit takes willpower. Earning a degree takes determination. Reaching your career goals takes hard work. In short, success takes commitment. And the same is true when it comes to your finances. Today, we'll explore what changes when you commit to managing money God's way. You've heard the saying, “Things worth doing are worth doing well.” And when it comes to your finances, there are certainly some things worth doing—like saving for the future, creating a spending plan, paying down debt, giving generously, and living with honesty and integrity. If you want to see real results in any area of life, it's going to take effort—sometimes a lot of it. And that's true for your financial life, too. Following biblical financial principles takes determination, planning, patience, and even sacrifice. So, why is it worth the effort?Because while commitment requires something of us, it also gives something to us. When we live with faith and integrity in our finances, we experience peace, contentment, and even joy. It's not just about doing the right thing—it's about being transformed more and more into who God wants us to be.Joining God in His WorkWhen you honor Him with your finances, you join in His work, bringing mercy and blessing to others. And as you experience His provision personally, your faith deepens, and your story becomes a testimony to encourage others. The Bible is filled with examples of faithful commitment. Hebrews chapter 11 is sometimes called the “Hall of Faith” because it highlights men and women who trusted God, even when they couldn't see the outcome. Abraham, Moses, Rahab—they placed their hope in God's promises before Christ ever came. But the ultimate example of commitment is Jesus Himself. Hebrews 12:2 says:“For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”A Savior who gave everything to redeem us is more than worthy of our full devotion in return.Faith lies at the heart of such a commitment, especially when it comes to finances. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as:“Confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”That means trusting God's promises, even when circumstances feel uncertain.Who's Really in Charge? So, committing to manage money God's way starts with faith, but it also requires surrender. That means asking: who's really in charge—me, or the Lord?In Matthew 6:24, Jesus says:“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”That's a heavy reminder for all of us. We can't be fully committed to both God and money. One will always take priority, and when it's not the Lord, we will feel that tension. Here are a few honest questions to consider:Do financial worries consume your thoughts?Do you find yourself chasing more and more money, more stuff, more status? Is your sense of security tied to your job or investments? If you answered yes to any of those, you're not alone. Many of us wrestle with divided hearts. It's easy to lean on what we can see, especially when life feels uncertain. But money, career, or comfort can never offer the lasting peace only God provides.Choosing to follow God's financial principles takes daily trust and perseverance. Galatians 6:9 offers this encouragement:“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”Another gift of commitment is the encouragement we receive from God's people. You weren't meant to follow Jesus—or manage your finances—on your own.Colossians 3:12–15 paints a powerful picture of Christian community:“As God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience… Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.”If you've ever felt like giving up on your budget or putting off your giving goals, you're not alone—we all face struggles. But if everything were easy, we'd never grow stronger.Walking With YouThat's why we're here at FaithFi—to walk alongside you. Whether you're just starting out or have walked this path for a long time, we want to offer help rooted in grace, wisdom, and truth. Most of all, we want you to experience the joy of following Jesus with every part of your life, including your finances. Because true freedom doesn't come from having more—it comes from trusting the One who gave everything for you.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I turned 65 in March and am now eligible for Medicare; however, I remain employed and have employer-sponsored health insurance that includes an HSA, which I continue to contribute to. I've received conflicting information—can I delay Medicare enrollment and still have both my employer and I contribute to my HSA?I'm a 73-year-old widow and have been retired since 2017. When I retired, I rolled my 401(k) into an IRA, and that money is currently sitting in a Fidelity money market account. I also have an emergency fund with about $50,000. Given my situation, what would you recommend I do?I'm a recent immigrant to the U.S. and travel frequently to visit family abroad, which has led to long employment gaps. Even though I have an excellent credit score, I'm having trouble getting approved for housing because landlords and lenders want to see consistent income. SHORT BLOG BECAUSE ROCKIES EAT THE SHOW AT 12:30 And I'm off tomorrow and Monday so we're talking Independence Day and the Not-So Big Beautiful Bill today.OF COURSE THE BILL IS GOING TO PASS What did I say yesterday about the fake drama about the Big Beautiful Bill? I told you that there would be a good show of some of the members of the House who said this was a garbage bill and the Senate made it worse before they voted to move it along. And that is EXACTLY what happened. A seven hour procedural vote that cleared the deck for the bill to pass today, so everyone in the House can go home and talk about what a hard battle they fought but this is just how things work in Washington and gosh they wish it was different. So predictable. The bill should pass this morning. I have mixed feelings about this. I'm glad the tax cuts are permanent because if taxes had jumped right now it would crush people who are already being crushed by inflation's impact. But this bill just moves us closer to insolvency. I hope beyond all hope I'm wrong. Please let me be wrong.WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE BILL? Well I've gathered up some stuff from people who think this bill is horrible and why. Here the Committee for a Responsible Federal Government shows how this bill is the biggest budget buster of ALL TIME. This column points out that the bill does nothing to deal with the crisis looming for Social Security and Medicare and even speeds up Social Security's demise. This column talks about the death of regular order, which will absolutely come back to bite the GOP again the next time the Democrats have a slim majority and big ideas, although that column does the best job of giving ALL the pros and cons and is worth a full read. This part on why they are using a reconciliation process instead of doing it the way it should be done is really good:The bill's secret weapon is something called budget reconciliation—a special process that allows legislation affecting federal spending, revenues, or debt to pass the Senate with just 51 votes instead of the usual 60. This procedural advantage was established by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 to streamline budget decisions. But it's become the preferred method for passing major partisan legislation when one party controls Congress by narrow margins. Reconciliation was originally designed to ensure that Congress could implement budget resolutions by reconciling actual spending and revenue legislation with overall fiscal targets. The idea was to prevent individual appropriations or tax bills from undermining broader budget agreements. Over time, creative lawmakers discovered they could use reconciliation for much more ambitious purposes. Any provision that affects federal spending, revenues, or debt levels can potentially qualify for the expedited process. The current bill qualifies because virtually every provision either raises or lowers taxes, increases or decreases spending, or affects government debt levels. Tax cuts reduce revenues. Healthcare changes affect Medicaid spending. Even seemingly unrelated provisions can be crafted to meet reconciliation requirements. Reconciliation comes with strict limits enforced by the Senate Parliamentarian under rules known as the “Byrd Rule,” named after former Senator Robert Byrd. Provisions must have more than incidental budgetary effects, can't increase deficits beyond the budget window, and must relate primarily to budgetary rather than policy matters. These constraints force bill drafters to be creative about how they structure policies to qualify for fast-track treatment. Sometimes this leads to awkward compromises or sunset clauses that make policies temporary when sponsors want them to be permanent. The time limits built into reconciliation—typically 20 hours of Senate debate—compress normal legislative processes that might otherwise take months into just a few days of intense activity. This speed prevents the kind of detailed examination that complex legislation normally requires.

On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, there is this Marxist-Islamist movement infiltrating U.S. institutions, especially the Democratic Party. ‘On Power' is a unique educational tool on these threats and it explores the ideological threats of Marxism and Islamism to American liberty, rights, sovereignty, and faith. It delves into the historical, philosophical, and political contexts of these issues, contrasting the Judeo-Christian belief system with Marxist-Islamist ideologies. Later, Zahran Mamdani urges progressives to hold firm to their convictions, advocating for policies like student debt cancellation and Medicare for All, alongside radical goals like BDS and seizing the means of production. Mamdani is a Stalinist who's agenda threatens property rights and liberty. He is masking authoritarian intentions with ‘appealing' promises. In addition, Asra Nomani joins the program to explain that socialist Muslims have strategically infiltrated the Democratic Party over two decades, leveraging identity politics and progressive alliances to gain influence. This agenda aligns with socialist policies and critiques of capitalism, reshaping the party's direction. Also, David Trulio, President and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute calls in to announce Mark's ‘On Power' book signing, lecture and dinner on August 17, 2025 at the Reagan Library. Finally, Steve Scalise to discuss the big, beautiful bill that passed in the Senate. It will prevent a major tax hike, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime for workers like servers, and funding border security with wall construction and advanced tech for Border Patrol. It boosts energy production in ANWR and the Gulf, cuts $1.5 trillion in waste, and promotes economic growth. The House must now pass the bill and send it to Trump's desk. In this episode of The Todd Huff Show, Todd breaks down the sweeping “One Big Beautiful Bill” just passed by the Senate—with a razor‑thin senate tie, brought over by J.D. Vance. He objectively reviews its major provisions: permanent extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a raised SALT deduction cap to $40,000, increased tax breaks for seniors, tips, and overtime, and a $4 trillion debt‐ceiling raise projected to add $2.4–$3.3 trillion to the deficit over ten years. Todd walks through spending boosts for defense and border security, rural hospitals, and nuclear programs, but also analyzes cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, green energy, and funding blocks for Planned Parenthood and state AI regulations. He addresses the heated debate over the CBO's static deficit scoring and Trump's claim that more growth, tighter welfare, tariff revenues, and private sector expansion could offset added debt. Scratch the surface: how will this affect the 2030 census, electoral power, and state budgets? With insights into the political fallout—Trump vs. Elon Musk on third‑party threats—Todd delivers smart, conservative analysis without the bitterness. Don't miss Todd's veteran take on this pivotal legislation.Key Takeaways:– Permanent 2017 tax cut extension– SALT deduction now up to $40K– Increased deductions for seniors, tips & overtime– Deficit blowout risk: CBO estimates $2.4–$3.3T in 10 years– Major defense, border, rural health investments– Harsh cuts on Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP– Restriction on Planned Parenthood funding via Medicaid– Federal preemption on state AI rules– Debate: static vs dynamic economic impact scoring– 2030 Census & electoral power tied to immigration policySponsor/Partner Links:Heart‑health supplement: [Soltea – use promo code TODD for 50% off + free shipping]Custom branding: [Red, White & Branded – code TODD for 10% off + free shipping]Values‑aligned investing: [48Financial.com/Todd – free assessment]Patriot‑friendly business directory: [FreedomMarketplace.net]

In this wide-ranging episode, CannCon and Ghost tackle a mix of geopolitical intrigue, domestic policy battles, and cultural absurdities. They open with an in-depth exploration of Donald Trump's approach to leadership, comparing his tactics on The Apprentice to the current Middle East power struggle. Ghost outlines how Netanyahu's fragile hold on power relies on ultra-orthodox zealots willing to risk regional war, while Trump maneuvers to accelerate inevitable conflicts and force resolution. On the domestic front, the hosts dig into the DOJ's record-breaking $14 billion healthcare fraud bust, describing it as a milestone in accountability for grifters and cartels feeding off Medicare. They cover the One Big Beautiful Bill's Medicaid provisions, GOP infighting, and Elon Musk's fiery calls for an America Party to challenge the Republican establishment. Other highlights include a deep dive into an ICE-avoidance app, viral clips of Trump discussing “Alligator Alcatraz,” and the Idaho shooter's bizarre subculture ties. Hello, PFR Nation and Happy 4th of July, and Happy Birthday, America! What a great country we live in, I'm so proud to be an American. My Dad being a (legal) immigrant has given me great appreciation for the opportunities we have relative to the rest of the world. I'm feeling extremely blessed for the clients we are serving in our financial planning firm, and I'm so grateful to serve all of you with this podcast. I hope you continue to find value. We have a fair amount of new listeners, plus the legacy listeners, and I just want to say how excited I am to deliver this weekly content to all of you. Thank you for the support, and welcome to the 84th episode of the PFR Podcast and 7th edition of the ‘Whiteboard Retirement Plan.' Leo and Lisa are looking to retire in 2 years, at 61 and 58 respectively. They have done quite well accumulating approximately $3 million for retirement with the majority being inside of traditional tax deferred IRA's and a 401k. Leo is on Long Term Disability and was forced to ‘retire earlier' than planned, and is receiving tax free income until 65. Lisa plans to fully retire at 58. However, this will result in losing employer-sponsored healthcare and ultimately needing to shop around in the open market. One option will be to consider the Affordable Care Act policies on Healthcare.gov. Furthermore, Roth Conversions are of interest during their “Roth Conversion Window” from Lisa's age 58 until she turns 75. In this episode, we will help them decide whether or not to aggressively pursue a ‘low income' to reduce healthcare costs in early retirement…or, to begin converting some of the tax-deferred accounts right away to reduce the ‘Tax Trap of 401ks.' Drop a comment and let me know what you plan to do if you retire before 65! Will you aggressively pursue ACA Premium Tax Credits? Aggressively convert to Roth? Or potentially a hybrid between the two? I hope you enjoy the 7th edition of the “Whiteboard Retirement Plan.”ACA Premium Tax Credits Video***Additional Disclaimer*** So much about these rules are up in the air. From 2021-2025, there has been a “gradual slope” downwards of ACA premium tax credits even AFTER you exceed 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. However, that is set to revert back to the “Cliff” at 400% after 2025. With that said, there is a LOT on the table with the “One Big Beautiful Bill” which will likely include further changes to these rules. I guess what I'm saying is…continue to follow the “OBBB” and of course follow the PFR Pod!-KevinTakeaways:Many of the families we serve are overachievers looking to retire early.Healthcare costs are a significant concern for early retirees prior to reaching Medicare eligibility.Budgeting for lifestyle and healthcare is crucial in retirement planning.Roth conversions can optimize tax liabilities over time.Monte Carlo simulations can help stress test the plan, but is by no means the be all end all retirement metric.Understanding the Affordable Care Act and their premium tax credits are important, but should NOT be the sole basis for tax planning opportunities. Tax traps in traditional retirement accounts can impact long-term wealth during a retiree's lifetime, and for the next generation. Annie and Roger break down the political maneuvering around the "big beautiful bill" extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, explaining why seemingly simple provisions like no tax on tips and overtime could create major headaches for the 2026 filing season. They examine proposed IRS budget cuts of 37% and workforce reductions of 20% at the same time new tax complexities are being added. The hosts also celebrate the success of the 2025 filing season while questioning whether similar results are possible given the challenges ahead, including new Commissioner Billy Long's appointment and the ongoing uncertainty about when and what form the final legislation will take.SponsorsPadgett - Contact Padgett or Email Jeff Phillips(00:00) - Welcome to Federal Tax Updates (02:14) - The Big Beautiful Bill: An Overview (02:37) - Republican and Democrat Perspectives (04:04) - Understanding Cuts and Dynamic Scoring (06:10) - Medicare and Eligibility Changes (08:23) - State and Local Tax Deduction Debate (11:13) - House vs. Senate: Political Dynamics (17:24) - New Proposals: Tips, Overtime, and More (29:16) - Temporary Tax Law and Its Implications (33:55) - Challenges with No Tax on Overtime (39:34) - Successful 2025 Filing Season Recap (44:45) - Proposed Budget Cuts and Their Impact (51:44) - New IRS Leadership and Future Outlook (56:43) - Conclusion and Future Updates Get NASBA Approved CPE or IRS Approved CELaunch the course on EarmarkCPE to get free CPE/CE for listening to this episode.Connect with the Roger and Annie on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/rogerharrispbs/https://www.linkedin.com/in/annie-schwab-852418261/ReviewLeave a review on Apple Podcasts or PodchaserSubscribeSubscribe to the Federal Tax Updates podcast in your favorite podcast app! This podcast is a production of the Earmark Media
This week on Fat Science, Dr. Emily Cooper, Andrea Taylor, and Mark Wright break down the essentials of a true metabolic workup. This episode moves beyond social media diet trends and digs into the science behind comprehensive lab panels, what they measure, and why they matter for your whole-body health. Dr. Cooper explains how to interpret common and advanced metabolic markers—like blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, hormone levels, and more—while Andrea and Mark share personal insights into the power of understanding your metabolic baseline. If you're concerned about weight, diabetes, or just want to know your numbers, this episode gives you the knowledge to talk confidently with your healthcare provider.Key Takeaways:A whole-body metabolic approach goes beyond just weight or blood pressure—comprehensive lab work (plus family history) is essential to uncover risks or dysfunction early.Standard blood panels provide useful clues (glucose, cholesterol, liver, kidney, blood pressure), but advanced tests (A1C, lipid particles, hormone levels, inflammation markers) round out the picture.Metabolic dysfunction is driven by factors far deeper than calories in/out—dieting and under-fueling can actually weaken metabolism over time.Medication for metabolic health is not a failure; it's a science-backed intervention. Early and accurate testing allows for better, evidence-based treatment.Don't ignore “borderline” results—addressing issues early is easier and more effective than trying to reverse advanced dysfunction later.Personal Stories & Practical Advice:Andrea recounts her life-changing journey from endless dieting to real answers through complete metabolic testing and individualized treatment.Mark highlights the need for patients to advocate for themselves and ask for more than just the standard panel at annual exams.References:Diet Failure Rate• Mann, T., et al. In a pivotal episode of 'The Valley Today,' host Janet Michael engaged in a comprehensive discussion with Chris Rucker, the Chief Administrative Officer for Valley Health. Set against the backdrop of growing concerns about the future of Medicaid, this conversation sheds light on the complexities and critical significance of this crucial health program. Janet begins by highlighting the urgent need for clarity on Medicaid, expressing concern that many people do not fully grasp the implications of the proposed legislative changes. She sets the stage for Chris to dispel misconceptions about Medicaid and its impact on various populations. Chris explains that Medicaid is a combined federal and state health insurance program designed for the most vulnerable populations, including disabled individuals, pregnant women, children, the elderly, and indigent adults. His emphasis on the multifaceted nature of Medicaid brings into focus the widespread dependence on this safety net, particularly for those who do not have other means to afford healthcare. The conversation delves into the perceptions versus the realities of Medicaid. Chris highlights the misconception that Medicaid is a financial burden primarily because it doesn't impact everyone directly. He stresses that healthcare providers like Valley Health view Medicaid as essential, not only for the individuals it directly serves but for the overall health of the community. The dialogue explores how Medicaid operates, benefiting the community through services such as well-child visits, immunizations, and care for chronic diseases. Chris underscores that a significant portion of Medicaid's beneficiaries are children and elderly individuals, forming the backbone of the program's demographic. Janet and Chris discuss the unique challenges faced by rural healthcare providers. Chris identifies the difficulties in recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals in rural areas and the increased costs associated with providing care in these regions. He uses examples from communities like Warren Memorial Hospital to illustrate the broader impact on rural health infrastructure. A critical part of their discussion tackles the financial aspects of Medicaid reimbursements and the reality that hospitals often don't receive full compensation for the care they provide. Chris sheds light on the fact that federal mandates require hospitals to treat all patients, regardless of their ability to pay, yet the reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid often fall short of covering the full cost of care. The non-profit status of Valley Health is another focal point. Chris clarifies that as a non-profit organization, Valley Health reinvests its profits back into the community to support healthcare for uninsured individuals and address unmet health needs, illustrating the broader economic and social mission of non-profit healthcare systems. Janet points out the advocacy role that Valley Health plays in communicating with elected officials about the impacts of Medicaid cuts. While both state senators are responsive and aware of the issues, Chris expresses concern that not all representatives may grasp the full repercussions of such legislative changes. Looking at potential outcomes, Chris fears that cuts to Medicaid will lead to increased healthcare costs, as individuals without coverage will end up seeking more expensive emergency care. He emphasizes the ripple effect, where the loss of Medicaid funding could lead to job losses and a significant economic downturn in communities that depend on healthcare jobs. Chris makes a compelling case for the importance of Medicaid as a fundamental right, akin to access to food, water, and shelter. Both Janet and Chris advocate for public engagement, urging listeners to contact their legislators to oppose Medicaid cuts and preserve healthcare access for vulnerable populations. In conclusion, the article underscores the urgency of safeguarding Medicaid. Chris Rucker's insights provide a sobering look at the potential impacts of proposed cuts, emphasizing the intertwined nature of healthcare and community well-being. The conversation highlights the critical need for informed advocacy and public action to ensure that healthcare systems like Valley Health can continue to serve and protect their communities. From Trauma to Success, the Tip of the Spear Book. “I didn't come from privilege or a picture-perfect family,” says Magallan in recent interviews shared across Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and various other platforms. “My childhood was marked by violence and abuse. But instead of letting that define me, I let it drive me.” His father was arrested for drug abuse; his mother was verbally abusive. Against the odds, Rodney and his sister became the first in their family to graduate high school, a crucial first step on a long road to personal success. This episode of The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast now streaming on for free on their website, in addition to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major social podcast platforms. Rodney Magallan's life story is a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and the ability to transform pain into purpose. “From trauma to success” isn't just a catchy phrase, it's the very journey that Magallan has lived. Today, he is a decorated retired U.S. Navy SEAL, former U.S. Marshal, former CIA operative, and multi-award-winning author of the influential book Tip of The Spear, It's Not What You Think. Rodney enlisted in the US Navy and, through unrelenting hard work, became a SEAL, graduating with BUD/S Class 143 in July 1987. His SEAL career took him from SEAL Team 4 to the elite SEAL Team 6, with deployments across the globe. Eventually, he earned his commission as a naval special warfare officer and rose to the rank of Commander before retiring honorably in 2021. From Trauma to Success, the Tip of the Spear Book. His resume includes leading protective operations, developing new maritime capabilities, and instructing the next generation of operatives. Rodney's book, Tip of The Spear, challenges the notion that elite status is reserved for the privileged few. As he puts it, “The elite aren't different. If you have the work ethic, you can do the same great things.” He emphasizes that becoming part of the tip of the spear, whether in the military, business, or life, requires sacrifice, discipline, and conscious choice. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. In Tip of The Spear, Rodney uses the spear as a metaphor for personal excellence. “It's not just about the spearhead,” he explains. “Every part of the spear, the shaft, the collar, even the hand wielding it, matters. Success isn't about one element; it's about the whole.” The book is more than a memoir; it's a call to action, a leadership guide, and an invitation for readers to define success on their own terms. From Trauma to Success, the Tip of the Spear Book. The book has garnered widespread recognition, including the 2025 International Impact Book Award, the 2025 PenCraft Book Award, and a Nonfiction Authors Association Bronze Award. In the aftermath of the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities, we welcome back Theodore Postol, Professor of Science, Technology and National Security Policy Emeritus at MIT to give his expert technical assessment on where that assault leaves the Iranian nuclear program. Then, Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, gives us his analysis of the political side of the issue.Theodore Postol is Professor of Science, Technology and National Security Policy Emeritus in the Program in Science, Technology, and Society at MIT. After a brutal initial barrage by the United States, followed by tit-for-tat exchanges between Israel and Iran, the U.S. is seeking to broker a ceasefire between the two states. On Truth Social, Trump posted “ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect!” Just hours after this however, Israel did in fact bomb targets in Tehran, per Reuters. Israel also claims to have intercepted missiles fired from Iran following the ceasefire agreement. In the wake of the initial attacks, journalist Séamus Malekafzali reported that the “Iranian communist party Tudeh and the Communist Party of Israel [Hadash] release[d] a joint statement condemning the Israeli war on Iran, saying Israel's intent is to make the region ‘bow down to [US] imperialism' and that the only solution is full nuclear disarmament in the Middle East.” Israel's nuclear capabilities are an open secret in Washington, with estimates that the country possess between 90 and 400 nuclear warheads.2. In Congress, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia has put forth a War Powers resolution in an attempt to check Trump's unilateral escalation in Iran. According to Newsweek, he expects to get Republican votes in the Senate. In the House, the effort is led by Reps. Ro Khanna and maverick Republican Thomas Massie, whom Trump has become so enraged with that he recently launched a PAC to oust him from his seat, per Axios. Meanwhile, AOC issued a statement reading, “The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.” Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, asked about AOC's impeachment comments, replied “No, no, that's a big threshold to cross,” per David Weigel.3. The escalation in Iran has exposed fissures in Trump's orbit. PBS reports major MAGA figures like Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor-Greene are openly opposed, while Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has reportedly drawn Trump's ire for a string of comments out of step with the administration's messaging, starting with a video earlier this month in which she accused “political elites and warmongers [of] carelessly fomenting fear and tension between nuclear powers,” per the Independent. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has been iced out completely, according to the Washington Post.4. In more news concerning the administration, the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) has published a new report, finding that “Stephen Miller…Trump's powerful deputy chief of staff and homeland security advisor…has a personal financial stake…[of] up to a quarter million dollars of stock in Palantir.” POGO describes Palantir, the shadowy tech company founded by rightwing tech oligarch Peter Thiel, as “woven into the operations of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and used by other federal agencies such as the Pentagon.” POGO and other experts see this as a glaring potential conflict of interest. In an almost darkly comedic twist, “Democratic lawmakers have recently sought information from Palantir, [but] they are in the minority and cannot compel the company to produce records. A person who could is Representative James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the [House] oversight committee...However, Comer bought…Palantir stock the day after Trump's inauguration…his only stock trade that day.” Palantir is the second-best-performing S&P 500 stock in 2025, with shares up 74% year-to-date, per Business Insider.5. In a rare case of corruption actually being prosecuted, the New York Times reports former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez reported for his eleven-year prison sentence on June 17th. “After a nine-week trial in Manhattan, Mr. Menendez…became the only U.S. senator ever to be convicted of acting as an agent of a foreign government,” after taking part in a “yearslong bribery conspiracy” that included payoffs in the form of “kilo bars of gold, a Mercedes-Benz convertible and more than $480,000 in cash.” Menendez is now incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution, Schuylkill, a medium-security federal prison in Minersville, Pennsylvania. He has been assigned the prisoner number 67277-050.6. In other news, POLITICO reports, “FICO plans to launch a suite of credit scores later this year that incorporate [Buy Now Pay Later or BNPL] data, providing lenders a window into…consumers' repayment behavior on these increasingly popular installment loans.” As BNPL data has not been included in credit reporting before, this has become known as “phantom debt…a gigantic black box…[and] largely unregulated.” This story notes that the Trump administration CFPB has “dropped planned enforcement of a Biden administration rule that would have treated BNPL providers like credit card companies,” subjecting this industry to daylight and financial regulation. The administration's abandonment of this rule mirrors their declassification of cryptocurrency as securities in order to skirt SEC oversight. Many questions remain over how exactly BNPL data will factor into consumers' credit scores, but many are bracing for this data to reveal a growing chasm of consumer debt underpinning the already shaky economic picture.7. Meanwhile Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia University student and activist abducted by ICE on the eve of his son's birth – despite being a legal permanent resident – has finally been freed. Khalil was held in federal immigration detention in Louisiana for 104 days, per AP. Following his release, Khalil said “Justice prevailed, but it's very long overdue.” Khalil's legal battle will continue. Khalil stated in an interview with NPR, “My release is just the first step. The legal fight is still very, very long. The administration appealed the decision about my release, but we will prove our case – that what happened…was textbook retaliation against the First Amendment, that I was targeted because of speech the government did not like, and that there was nothing wrong with the speech I was engaged in. I want to make sure that everyone who contributed to my arrest will be held accountable.”8. Backlash to Trump's immigration policies is not confined to the political and legal realms either. Newsweek reports that the new Pope, Leo XIV, has “called for priests, deacons and parish leaders to accompany migrants to court and stand in solidarity with them.” This is an encouraging sign for those who hoped Leo would follow in the footsteps of Pope Francis. It also puts the new Pope at odds with more conservative American Catholics, such as Vice-President JD Vance who converted in adulthood. In May, Leo's brother John Prevost told New York Times that the new Pope, “has great, great desire to help the downtrodden and the disenfranchised, the people who are ignored.”9. In another immigration flashpoint, “A gang of masked federal agents swarmed, manhandled, and detained New York City Comptroller Brad Lander…as he sought to assist a defendant out of immigration court,” according to the American Prospect. The Prospect notes this arrest is “the latest instance of political violence against opposition party members, which has included the arrests of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver…the arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan…and the brief detention of Sen. Alex Padilla.” Lander was released several hours after he was detained, when New York Governor Kathy Hochul showed up in person to demand his release. She called his arrest “b******t.” Later, in an interview with Joe Gallina, Lander said, “Courts tell undocumented immigrants their cases are ‘dismissed.' But what they really dismiss… is their asylum status. Then ICE grabs them. No lawyer. No warning.”10. Finally, 33-year-old democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani trounced disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday, winning by a completely unforeseen seven-point landslide. Polls up to election day showed Cuomo winning, some by as much as 24 points. Mamdani, a state legislator since 2021, ran on a platform of affordability, including making city buses free, establishing city-owned grocery stores and freezing the rent for all stabilized tenants. This platform – paired with cogent messaging, an extraordinary grassroots organizing campaign and shrewd alliances with other progressive candidates like Brad Lander – won the day for Zohran. However, an air of uncertainty about November remains. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams still plans to run for reelection as an independent and Cuomo hasn't ruled out doing the same, per the Hill. While many who endorsed or donated to Cuomo in the primary – some now openly admitting they merely did so out of fear of reprisal – have switched their allegiance to Mamdani, some are maintaining a hostile posture towards the presumptive Democratic nominee. There is no doubt this story will proceed in dramatic fashion. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Despite decades of effort and innovation since the groundbreaking To Err is Human report over 25 years ago, preventable harm in healthcare persists, and violence against healthcare workers continues to rise. With record understaffing, burnout, mandatory overtime, and mounting documentation demands, the pressure to provide safe care has never been higher nor the stakes more urgent. In this first episode of our new series focusing on safety in healthcare, we explore a bold shift toward "total systems safety" with two leaders at the forefront of this movement who know these challenges all too well. Patricia McGaffigan, RN, MS, CPPS, Senior Advisor for Patient and Workforce Safety at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and President of the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety, and Donald Berwick, MD, MPP, FRCP, President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Together, they continue to shape national safety efforts including IHI's Safer Together: National Action Plan to Advance Patient Safety the first public-private collaboration of its kind. Spearheaded by McGaffigan and bringing together 27 major organizations that had never collaborated before. The plan aims to restructure the very foundation of healthcare, building safety into every level of the system around four interlocking pillars. Leadership & Governance: Strong, visible leadership and policies that make safety a strategic priority. Workforce Safety & Well-Being: Protecting nurses and healthcare workers – physically and mentally – so they can care safely for others. Patient & Family Engagement: Partnering with patients and family caregivers as co-designers of safe care. Learning Systems: Creating feedback loops and continuous improvement so lessons from one hospital spread everywhere. At the heart of this movement is a truth long understood by nurses: safety is not a checklist or a policy, it's a culture, a commitment, and a collective responsibility. As Patricia McGaffigan reminds us, “You can't have patient safety if you don't have a safe workforce.” And as Don Berwick warns, “The illusion that safety is a matter of individual effort is one of the most toxic notions in the whole safety enterprise. It is we, not me.” Nurses have always led by example, holding space for healing while navigating broken systems. Now, their leadership is essential in building the future of healthcare safety: one that protects not only patients, but the people who care for them. Where healthcare is not only safer, but also is a culture that ensures we're all Safer Together.
In this fiery monologue, the host unleashes on Senate GOP leaders John Thune and Lindsey Graham for what he calls an outrageous betrayal of conservative priorities. He blasts the Senate's plan to fund Medicaid and Medicare for 1.4 million illegal immigrants—policies he says violate federal law and reward tax evasion schemes that enrich Bush-era donors. The rant exposes how unelected bureaucrats, like the Senate parliamentarian appointed by Harry Reid, wield outsized power Republicans claim they can't override—though they absolutely could fire or ignore her. The host argues this is no accident but a deliberate ploy by old-guard Republicans to undercut Donald Trump, sabotage America's energy independence by stripping drilling permits, and lock in a system that burdens taxpayers while suppressing wages. He warns any Republican who votes for the bill in the House will face a brutal primary defeat and calls the scheme “amnesty Lindsey working his evil behind closed doors.”

Today, Ali and Asif are joined by family physician and the inaugural Primary Care and Health Policy Scholar at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Dr. Danyaal Raza. The guys start off by asking Dr. Raza about how healthcare is structured. Then, they ask him about a recent article he wrote in the ‘Toronto Star' regarding the privatization of family medicine clinics, data brokering and how these developments can be compared to Saturday morning cartoons we watched as children. After a brief aside about Transformers and other cartoons of our youth, they discuss the family medicine crisis in Canada and how privatization may not be the solution individuals have made it out to be. They also discuss potential solutions such as team based care, nurse practitioners, international medical graduates and virtual care. Representative Jodey Arrington, Chairman of the House Budget Committee and Republican from Texas's 19th district, joined The Guy Benson Show today to discuss the latest hurdle in getting the Big Beautiful Bill through Congress. He criticized the Senate parliamentarian's removal of a key Medicare provision that would have blocked illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer-funded benefits, as many have criticized the scrubbing of the provision as a "partisan scrubbing." Arrington explained that House Republicans are now working on a "cure" to reinstate that and other potentially removed provisions, warning that without them, the financial viability of the bill could be in jeopardy. Arrington still said, though, that there's a "good probability" they'll get it across the finish line by July 4th. Listen to the full interview below! Learn more about your ad choices. In Episode 481 of Relentless Health Value, host Stacey Richter speaks with Kimberly Carleson, CEO of US Beacon, about payment integrity within health systems. They delve into strategies some hospitals use to maximize revenue without raising rates and discuss the importance of accurate billing. Key takeaways include the high prevalence of billing errors, which can lead to significant overcharges for plan sponsors, often due to documentation gaps and complex coding systems. Kimberly provides actionable advice for both healthcare providers and plan sponsors on how to mitigate billing inaccuracies and enhance transparency. Emphasized points include the necessity of third-party claim audits, understanding legal rights under various acts, and the importance of maintaining clear communication and compliance with legal billing standards. === LINKS ===
