Atheism is often pointed out as a religion, and in many ways, the obsession with health and wellness has become its own secular form of legalism. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar remind listeners that while bodily exercise is valuable, it can easily become idolatry if it replaces worship of the Lord. Gluttony has long been a silent sin, rarely addressed in churches, yet food can just as easily become an idol as the pursuit of beauty or fitness. The guys emphasize the need for balance: a pastor should not be marked by obvious gluttony, but at the same time, believers must avoid falling into the opposite extremes. Humans are wired to worship—so the question is, what or who are you worshiping? There is nothing wrong with caring for the body, but when the motive is self-glorification rather than glorifying God, the line has been crossed. Historically, Christians have been known for fasting, generosity, and blessing others, rather than being consumed by self-care. When self-care becomes an idol, it often reveals a fear of death and a desire to earn immortality. The truth is that the outer man is wasting away, and eternal life is found only in Christ. Motivation determines whether health is pursued as an idol or as stewardship of the temple of the Holy Spirit. Oscar shares that he lifts weights to maintain strength and longevity, aiming to serve God and his family well as he ages. E.Z. adds that part of his drive is to avoid becoming a burden to his children and to maximize his impact for the Lord. The wellness industry has grown worldwide, but combining wellness practices with paganism introduces another possible danger. Practices like meditation or yoga often promise salvation through Eastern philosophies, but they are just another form of legalism that cannot defeat death. Eternal youth is a false hope; eternal glory in Christ is the true answer. Believers should desire to live fully until they die, striving to honor God with their bodies. The guys emphasize the practical benefits of activity, pointing out that humans were not made for a sedentary life in front of screens. Exercising strengthens both body and mind, and tackling tough challenges builds confidence and resilience. At the same time, they warn against being judgmental toward others who practice moderation. Rest, too, is part of God's design, and the Sabbath reminds believers that they are not machines defined solely by their productivity. Ultimately, the message is simple: avoid gluttony and laziness, reject the idolization of beauty, view health as stewardship, and above all, love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.Send us a textThanks for listening! Motivation is fleeting. How do we train and live in such a way that we're looking forward to what's next? Not down the road in 10 months, but what's next today and tomorrow? Today, we look at finding a good combination of freedom within the discipline. Do you buy in to your direction or are you struggling with understanding the real goals? Do you have conviction for what you're chasing? Topics: Favorite Holidays Four reels per week? What's the top thing to do right now? Focusing your internal visualization as you're guided with insight and a meditation, you are not inventing power, but re-centering your scattered attention and claiming responsibility for your choices. Be guided to recognize opportunities all around you with the energy of your second chakra. WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S SERIES: Beyond Motivation: The Science of Automatic Discipline When you start meditating, your Pre-Frontal Cortex (PFC)—the center of logic, planning, and willpower—is working hard. This is exhausting. The goal of this 7-day series is to transfer the meditation practice from the energy-intensive PFC to the Basal Ganglia, the brain structure dedicated to automatic habits and procedural memory. This is the part of the brain that knows how to tie your shoes or drive a car without conscious thought. This is day 5 of a 7-day meditation series, "Beyond Motivation: The Science of Automatic Discipline," episodes 3395-3401. YOUR WEEKLY CHALLENGE: The Zero Willpower Quest The goal is to prove that consistent, tiny actions are more powerful than occasional heroic efforts. you're not seeking a perfect 30-minute meditation; your goal is an unbreakable, 60-second consistency. Captain Preet Chandi MBE is a world record breaking explorer, former British Army officer, and physiotherapist. She served in the Royal Army Medical Corps for 16 years before embarking on groundbreaking polar expeditions. In 2022, Preet became the ninth woman in history to ski solo to the South Pole, and the first woman of colour to complete a solo expedition on the continent. Less than a year later, she set out on her next adventure, breaking two Guinness World Records for the longest solo unsupported one-way ski expedition, both for a woman and overall, covering 922 miles in 70 days. She returned to Antarctica in December 2023 to set her fourth world record: the female speed record to the South Pole, completed in 31 days, 13 hours, and 19 minutes. Preet's expeditions are driven by her mission to inspire others to push boundaries. She champions the message that everyone starts somewhere, and that no matter your background or starting point in life, you are capable of breaking barriers and redefining what's possible. In 2025, she established her Community Interest Company, Adventure is Ours CIC, which supports expeditions that promote education, inspiration, climate awareness, and diversity in exploration. Through the CIC, she also delivers outreach, mentorship, and school visits to empower people of all ages. In 2022, Preet started delivered her school talks across the UK, reaching more than 18,000 students. That same year, she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Her achievements have been widely recognised: she received the ‘Inspirational' and ‘Woman of the Year' awards at the inaugural Women in Defence event in 2022, was named ‘Explorer of the Year' in 2023, and in 2025 was awarded the prestigious Geographical Award by the Royal Geographical Society. They unpack how cultural conditioning, fear, and the desire to be "good enough” shape identity and self-worth. Starting is the hardest part of any habit. Your brain is wired to conserve energy. The Mudra (Gyan Mudra) is the ultimate antidote to this friction. It requires minimal energy and is completed in a second, yet it functions as a powerful, non-verbal Commitment Device. It is a starting ritual. The techniques used this week—the physical Mudra cue, the rhythmic Breathing, and the simple Affirmation—are all designed to speak the language of the Basal Ganglia: simple, repeatable, and cued by the environment. This is day 4 of a 7-day meditation series, "Beyond Motivation: The Science of Automatic Discipline," episodes 3395-3401. YOUR MEDITATION JOURNEY DURING THIS WEEK'S SERIES Day 1: Visualizing your goals Day 2: Affirmation: "My consistency is my power." Day 3: Power Breathing Day 4: Gyan mudra for knowledge and wisdom Day 5: Second chakra focus to maintain ambition Day 6: Flow meditation combining the week's techniques Day 7: Weekly review meditation and closure SHARE YOUR MEDITATION JOURNEY WITH YOUR FELLOW MEDITATORS Let's connect and inspire each other! What if staying consistent didn't mean being perfect? In this episode, I teach you the "low goal days, high goal days" system that helps students maintain momentum without the all-or-nothing pressure. You'll learn how to set realistic expectations, why planning your bare minimum ahead of time changes everything, and how to avoid the trap of quitting when you miss one day. Are you setting yourself up to fail by aiming for perfection every single day? The Unstoppable U podcast is designed for young people who want to level up and crush their goals.
Now, this post that I saw from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) is all about raising our standards, but when I saw it - I knew this post was directly pointing at me. I don't want you getting offended by the title. I'll use something else in my thoughts about these thoughts in this episode. But, it is easy for me to see that this is a formula for me to get things better in my life and I hope you can take a few things from it to add value to your life. Face it, we all have standards for ourselves that we can get better at for sure. Thanks for listening. The road to mastery is paved with small improvements every day.Communicating can feel daunting at times. What does it take to find your voice in the moments that matter most? As Chiney Ogwumike says, “There is freedom on the other side of your fear.”As a professional basketball player, NBA and WNBA analyst for ESPN, and advocate for gender equality in sports, Ogwumike faces many situations where communication is critical. For her, achieving confidence in communication is the same as honing any other skill—embracing failure and refinement through repetition. “The best things in life are things you work out over long periods of time,” she says. “Great people, great communicators, anyone that's working at something, show up each and every day and just chip away, chip away, chip away, until they turn that weakness into a strength.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Ogwumike and host Matt Abrahams discuss how practice and preparation can equip us for better communication, transforming fear into confidence, perfectionism into authenticity, and weakness into strength. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Chiney OgwumikeEp.166 Why Relying on Talent Alone Will Fail You Ep.153 Listen Up, Leaders: A Record-Setting Coach's Guide to Communication Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:20) - Communication on the Court (04:02) - Performing Under Pressure (06:11) - Lessons from Great Coaches (08:21) - Embracing Imperfection and Authenticity (11:43) - Strategies for Effective On-Air Communication (16:16) - The Final Three Questions (19:09) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. Questioning Josh Allen's motivation after comments last night
Why do some people stay consistent with their health and fitness habits while others fall off after a few weeks? In this episode, Amy Hudson and Dr. James Fisher share five tips to help you stay consistent with your workout routine. Learn the benefits of scheduling your workouts, why setting challenges makes goals easier to achieve, and how the right social support can fuel long-term consistency. Tune in to discover simple, practical strategies that keep you on track even when motivation runs dry. Amy starts by revealing the real reason most people struggle with motivation. She explains that most fail because they don't have a system to lean on when they don't feel like doing anything. Once you build a solid structure, you don't have to keep negotiating with yourself every day, you just show up and do it. Tip #1: Schedule it. Your workout should be on your calendar. The moment you block off time, you instantly raise the odds of following through. Amy explains the power of scheduling. When you train at the same time, on the same day, week after week, you don't have to think about it anymore. You've taken away the decision fatigue, and all that's left is repetition — and repetition is what builds results. Even when you don't feel like it, Amy says following through matters most. That single act of showing up when you'd rather skip tells your brain, “I keep my word.” And once you see yourself as someone who follows through, your confidence grows, and so does your consistency. Tip #2: Create a challenge. Goals are good, but challenges are better because they're specific and measurable. Whether it's 30 days without junk food or 40 straight workouts, a challenge forces you to track your wins, and those little wins pile up into lasting change. Dr. Fisher explains why goals without action fall flat. Writing down “lose 10 pounds” feels nice, but it doesn't move the needle on its own. It's the daily steps you take toward that goal that create momentum. According to Amy, when you see progress in black and white — whether it's workouts logged, weight lifted, or meals recorded — it lights a fire to keep going. The act of tracking doesn't just measure growth, it actually fuels it. Dr. Fisher highlights how habits become automatic over time. In the beginning, discipline feels heavy, but the longer you practice good routines, the lighter they get. Amy shares the benefits of structured challenges. She talks about Exercise Coach's 30-day metabolic comeback challenge, built on whole foods and consistent workouts. That combination of simplicity and accountability gives people results they can see and feel quickly. Dr. Fisher highlights the accountability that comes with working with a personal trainer. When someone is tracking your progress and guiding your choices, excuses lose their power. Tip #3: Gather friends. Pursuing health doesn't have to be a lonely road. The more you include friends or family in the process, the more motivated and committed you'll both become. Amy explains why family habits matter. When you shift things like sleep, nutrition, or daily activity as a household, you build a culture of wellness instead of trying to go it alone. Amy shares how social support saved her progress. She recalls doing a 30-day challenge with her husband and admits she probably would've quit without him. Having even one supportive partner can make the difference between stopping and succeeding. Learn the importance of boundaries. Not everyone in your life will cheer on your healthy habits, and some will even try to pull you back. Protect your progress by drawing a line and surrounding yourself with people who genuinely want to see you win. Amy explains why a coach can be the difference-maker. Having a personal trainer by your side means you're never facing the journey alone. A coach isn't just there for accountability, they bring encouragement, structure, and belief when you need it most. Tip #4: Listen to a podcast. Feeding your mind is just as important as training your body. The more you hear about health and strength, the more you begin to see yourself as the kind of person who lives that lifestyle. How to stack habits for maximum momentum. Listen to a podcast while walking, cycling, or lifting, and suddenly you're training your body and your mindset at the same time. That layering effect makes progress faster and more fun. Tip #5: Write down a positive message. Surrounding yourself with affirmations or quotes isn't just feel-good fluff — it rewires your focus. When positivity is visible in your environment, it becomes easier to keep your mindset sharp. Amy explains how to fight your brain's negativity bias. By default, our minds scan for danger and problems. Writing down uplifting reminders trains your brain to see possibilities instead of pitfalls. Dr. Fisher shares one of his favorite quotes: “Anticipation is worse than participation.” Most of the time, the fear of starting feels heavier than the act of doing. Once you step in, the resistance fades and you wonder why you waited so long. Mentioned in This Episode: The Exercise Coach - Get 2 Free Sessions! Fall has officially arrived! Even though it's not the start of a new year, it somehow “feels” like one, you know? There's just something about this season that feels fresh, intentional…and grounding. I'll be honest - I've always been (and always will be) a summer girl! I looove all things summer, and I've really worked on shifting my mindset to not “dread” fall (because honestly, winter and the cold is what I really dread).I've started leaning into what fall actually offers: structure, rhythm, and a sense of calm that fuels growth. The cooler weather alone helps regulate your nervous system, and fall creates a powerful “fresh start” effect (this has been sooo noticeable for me)!If you've been feeling that pull to reset your workouts, nutrition, or mindset, this is your sign to do it NOW. You don't need to wait for January to shift from chaos into intentional action with your life. This is the season to slow down with purpose, and actually DO the sh*t you said you'd do this year. Decide what matters for you, get laser-focused, and pour your energy there so you CAN be excited (and in control) as we head into the holiday season!Episode recap:My past mindset and struggles with the fall seasonThe real reasons fall feels both calm AND motivatingHow the “fresh start” energy of fall impacts motivation Simple shifts to help you transition from summer chaos to fall intentionalityHow to assess your mindset, time management & what's actually fueling you right nowWhy clarity, purpose & focused action matter MOST in this seasonLinks/Resources:Listen to the Sol Fit PodcastJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymPRIVATE COACHING is my 1:1 program (choose 3 or 6 month option)Connect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcast so we can keep this conversation going-be sure to tag me in your posts and stories!Join my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi!
