Most diets fail — not because you can't follow them, but because they were never designed for real life. In this episode, I talk about: Why motivation-reliant diets never last How diets plan for the best days instead of real ones What a real diet that's going to work must include or it'll blow up in your face If you're worried you're going to blow it, this episode will help. Gluten-free diets were initially intended for children with medical conditions such as celiac disease, wheat allergy, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity A review published in Frontiers in Nutrition found that gluten-free diets, when not medically required, can cause nutrient gaps and raise health risks for children A recent study in The American Journal of Gastroenterology found that young patients exhibited a significant increase in urinary arsenic and other metal levels after only six months on a gluten-free diet When cooked properly, white rice can be a smarter choice than brown rice because it's easier to digest, contains less arsenic and heavy metals Instead of cutting out foods that are good for your gut, include healthy carbs, choose stable fats over seed oils, and learn to calm your food fears

This conversation shifts the narrative away from fear and age and back to the health of the woman. Topics Discussed: → How does hormonal birth control impact fertility and the menstrual cycle? → Why should you track your cycle naturally? → When does health matter more than age when trying to get pregnant? → What is AMH and when should you check your levels? → What is the biggest factor impacting fertility? If you've ever thought, “I'm eating healthy… so why do I feel worse?” — this episode is for you. In today's conversation, we're breaking down GI-MAP testing in clear, human language. No fear-mongering. No over-promising. Just honest insight into what this popular gut health tool can and can't tell us—and how it can help bring clarity when symptoms feel confusing. You'll learn why more data doesn't always mean better outcomes, how gut testing fits into an empowered, food-first approach, and why the solution is almost never cutting more foods—but understanding which foods your body is ready for right now. Connect with us HERE. Learn more about working with the Empowered Eating team here! In This Episode, We Cover: What a GI-MAP actually is (and how PCR stool testing works—in plain English) What defines a “healthy gut” beyond perfect lab numbers What dysbiosis means—and why it's not a diagnosis or a life sentence The pros of GI-MAP testing and how it can help identify possible contributors to symptoms The limitations of GI-MAPs, including: Lack of regulation Cost considerations Emerging (but incomplete) microbiome science The risk of over-restriction without proper guidance A personal story of eating “healthier” and feeling worse—and how gut data helped explain why Why whole foods are always the foundation, but which whole foods matter Who GI-MAP testing is best suited for—and who it's not Key Takeaway GI-MAP testing isn't about controlling your gut or chasing perfect results. It's about listening to your body with better context, reducing guesswork, and choosing support strategies that actually align with where your gut is today. Data doesn't heal—but informed care does. Interested in GI-MAP Testing? If you're curious whether GI-MAP testing could be a helpful tool for your health journey, I offer guided GI-MAP testing with personalized interpretation and a food-first plan—so the data supports your life instead of overwhelming it.

In this inspiring and deeply honest episode, Priscilla sits down with Lori, a client in the Reclaim Inner Circle, where she receives 1:1 support following the thyroid framework. Lori shares her extraordinary 50-year journey with Hashimoto's and what finally shifted after decades of feeling dismissed, misunderstood, and left to "figure it out" alone. Lori has lost 100 pounds—twice in her lifetime. But like so many women with thyroid and metabolic challenges, the weight loss never felt sustainable because the deeper issues were never addressed. Diets worked… until they didn't. Doctors listened… until her labs appeared "normal." Her symptoms were treated like mysteries instead of messages. This is the story of what happens when a woman refuses to give up on her health—even after half a century of searching for answers. Today, at 69 years old, Lori says she feels better now than she did in her 30s. Better energy. Better inflammation control. Better thyroid understanding. Better self-advocacy. Better confidence in her own body. And she credits that shift to finally working on the root causes instead of jumping from diet to diet or waiting for the next prescription to "fix" everything. ❤️ Inside This Episode, Lori Shares:
AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Adam Lock, professor of dairy nutrition in the Department of Animal Sciences at Michigan State University. This podcast is brought to you by the AABP Nutrition Committee. Soybeans and soybean meal products are an important source of protein and fat for dairy cow diets. Soybeans are typically 38-42% crude protein and 15-20% fat. The fat in conventional soybeans is 50-55% linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) which can suppress milk fat production if fed at high levels. Roasting soybeans is common on dairy farms to increase the amount of bypass protein (RUP). High oleic fat soybeans have more recently been fed as a soybean source in dairy cattle diets. The primary advantage of these soybeans are that they have the same percentage of fat (20%) but the fatty acid profile is 75-80% oleic acid. Oleic acid does not directly suppress milk fat production since it is a monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA). This allows us to safely feed a higher energy diet to cows. Lock suggests that we can target high producing or early lactation cows with these soybeans to provide more energy. These beans can result in higher production, higher milk fat and may have positive effects on health and immunity. Lock provides some general guidelines for incorporating high oleic acid soybeans in dairy cattle diets. They can be included at 8-12% of diet dry matter for roasted ground beans. Cows do not need a step-up period to incorporate these into the diet and an expected response should be seen in 7-10 days. In this episode, I share the story of the forgotten foods that built strong guts for thousands of years — kefir, yogurt, cultured vegetables, fermented drinks, and sourdough. These foods weren't trends or optional add-ons. They were everyday nourishment that supported digestion, immunity, and resilience. If you've ever wondered why modern guts struggle so much, this episode may help you remember what the body has always known. After a full Christmas break, a busy work season, and a lot of life happening behind the scenes, this episode is a gentle check-in. No big announcements. No dramatic comeback. Just me catching you up on the holidays, the start of a new year, and where my head and heart actually are right now.I'm sharing a few personal updates, my honest feelings about New Year pressure, and what a “glow up” looks like for me in this season (hint: it has nothing to do with becoming a brand-new person overnight). If you're feeling a little quiet, a little tired, or like you're easing back into life instead of charging into it, this episode is for you. Consider this a soft reset… and an open seat on the couch.
High-glycemic index foods push your insulin and IGF-1 into ranges linked to lung cancer, raising risk across multiple tumor types, including small cell and adenocarcinoma High-glycemic load diets, when built from fiber-rich whole fruits, vegetables, and grains, showed a lower lung cancer risk because they produced steadier blood sugar responses rather than sharp spikes Both smokers and nonsmokers experienced significantly higher lung cancer odds when eating high-GI diets, showing that carbohydrate quality influences risk regardless of smoking history Fast-absorbing carbs and ultraprocessed foods often combine high-GI starches with high linoleic acid seed oils, creating an inflammatory, insulin-resistant environment that supports abnormal cell growth Simple dietary shifts — such as reducing ultraprocessed foods, choosing slower-digesting carbs, repairing your gut before increasing fiber, and stabilizing meal timing — help you lower metabolic patterns linked to lung cancer
It's January, which means you're probably thinking about your diet. Maybe you've calculated your macros, set your eating window, or created a list of food rules to follow. But here's what happens every year: Work gets busy. Kids' sports ramp up. Life gets messy. And suddenly that "perfect" plan feels impossible to maintain. The truth is, you don't need a better nutrition plan. You just need one that works on your best days and your worst days. Join me this week as I break down why so many January diet attempts fail by February and offer a completely different approach to changing how you eat. You'll discover the three nutrition basics that create real stability, and how, once you nail these basics, consistency stops feeling like something you have to fight for every single day. Welcome to Part 2 of Behind the Pages of LIGHT, The New Psychology of Weight Loss. In the last episode, we took a step behind the curtain and revealed how the book explains why weight loss has felt so hard, even when you're smart, capable, and doing your best. We looked at familiar ideas like people pleasing and fear of success, through the lens of weight loss and named the patterns that quietly drain energy, create self-doubt, and make follow-through feel heavier than it should. Today, we're going deeper. This episode is about the heart behind the behind-the-scenes. It's about how this book actually came together, not just conceptually, but emotionally. The moments that surprised me while I was writing, the pieces that clicked into place and made the framework feel sturdy, human, and usable. The parts that turned this from a collection of ideas into something that could actually support you in real life. The whole process of LIGHT is different because it leaves room for learning, for gentleness, for being human. And why it was designed to help you feel steadier, not smaller. We'll cover how LIGHT works as a laboratory instead of a performance, how emotional eating shifts when you decode it instead of fighting it, how body image changes when you stop staring blindly at the scale and begin to view it through a prism of the real outcomes you want from weight loss, as well as how identity fits into sustainable weight loss. So, are you ready to go deeper behind the pages, into the heart of this work, and see how all of it connects in a way that clicks into place…almost like a light switch?? Let's go! Get the book! If you're a woman over 35 who feels tired, stretched thin, and quietly disconnected from herself, this episode is for you. At 38, I was hospitalised, burnt out, and running on empty. Today, my biological age is more than 20 years younger than my chronological age, not because of biohacks, restriction, or endless workouts, but because I made a small number of strategic changes at the exact stage of life where they matter most. In this solo episode, I break down The Longevity Seven: the seven science-backed pillars I used to rebuild my health, and the same framework I now use with high-performing women to restore energy, strength, and long-term resilience. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • Why women in their mid-30s to mid-40s are in a critical window for long-term health • The 7 simple pillars that radically improved my strength, energy, and biomarkers • How to build muscle, VO₂ max, and resilience without overtraining • How much protein women actually need as they age • Why plant diversity matters more than restriction • How sleep consistency impacts longevity more than sleep duration • The role of inflammation, gut health, and omega-3s in aging well • Why purpose, connection, and nature are non-negotiable for long-term vitality TIMESTAMPS 00:00 My Wake-Up Call at 38 04:45 The Longevity Seven Explained 08:12 Pillar 1: Daily Movement Without Burnout 16:30 Pillar 2: Protein & Plant Diversity Simplified 28:40 Pillar 3: Reducing Inflammation with Healthy Fats 34:55 Pillar 4: Why Sleep Consistency Matters Most 42:10 Pillar 5: Purpose and Longevity 47:20 Pillar 6: Relationships & Social Health 51:30 Pillar 7: Nature, Movement & Time Freedom 58:10 How to Start (Without Doing Everything at Once) RESOURCES & LINKS • Episode: Creatine for Women in Midlife – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIMxC_QOmmw • 21-Day Hormone & Longevity Reset (Live on January 29, 2026) – https://academy.angelafosterperformance.com/reset A BIG thank you to our sponsors who make the show possible: • Beam Minerals – Go to https://beamminerals.com/angela | Use code ANGELA for an exclusive discount
We have so much information about health, our bodies, and what will make us feel better, coming at us from every direction. If you're ready to finally hear the truth, this episode is for you. Today, host Heather Creekmore welcomes coaching client Tephanie, and Compared to Who? team member, Christian body image coach, Tara, for a moving conversation about finding real freedom from body image struggles. This episode dives into what it’s really like to join the 40-day Body Image Journey, take the next step into group coaching, and experience transformative, Christ-centered growth alongside women in all stages of life. What You’ll Hear in This Episode: Tephanie’s Story: Tephanie courageously shares how body image issues impacted her life for years—from feeling like the “heavier friend” as a child, to trying diets after marriage, and always believing thinness was the key to worth and happiness. The Power of Community: Listen as Tephanie describes overcoming her fears about group coaching, opening up in a safe space, and discovering that she wasn’t alone in her struggles. What Coaching Looks Like: Coach Tara explains how every woman shows up nervous, but together they create a sacred, honest place where transformation happens. Lasting Change: Tephanie reflects on how the journey shifted her mindset—from constant comparison and shame, to living with gratitude and serving as a positive role model for her family. Behind the Scenes: You’ll also get a peek into the structure of the coaching programs (the 40-day journey, Body Image Freedom Framework, Attunement Reset), how each builds on the last, and the real “magic” that’s only possible through Christ-centered community. Key Takeaways: There is no “magic formula” for body image freedom—true peace comes from seeing yourself as God sees you. You’re not alone; women of every age and stage struggle with body image, but healing happens in safe, supportive community. EPISODE 425. In this episode of Fit Friends Happy Hour, host Katie delves into the pitfalls of the 'New Year, New You' mentality often promoted in January. Statistics show that most diets and gym memberships started in January fail within months. Katie advocates for systems over shame-based motivations, emphasizing sustainable habits and routines. She introduces three essential systems for busy individuals: a food system that supports energy, a movement system that fits various life stages, and an emotional and mental reset system. Katie underscores that you don't need to reinvent yourself; you need better support systems to thrive.00:00 Introduction: The January Diet Craze00:52 The Failure of Diets and Resolutions02:28 The Emotional Drivers Behind Dieting02:53 Systems Over Shame: A Sustainable Approach04:21 Welcome to Fit Friends Happy Hour05:08 The Power of Systems: Insights from James Clear08:33 Three Essential Systems for 202613:20 Client Success Stories and Final Advice14:06 Conclusion and Encouragement15:09 Outro: Stay Connected with Fit Friends Happy HourConnect with Katie:Work with Us | www.katiehake.com/nutritioncoachingTake the Energy Quiz | www.katiehake.com/energyquizMeal Prep Like a Pro Without Obsessing Over Every Bite | www.katiehake.com/prepJoin our FREE 5-Day Walking Challenge | Walk with Me!Use special link for 15% off | Omorpho Weighted Vest Text me your AHA moment from today's episode!
I used to say to clients that any great diet must be functional and sustainable. And while that remains true, I have also come to the conclusion that any 'diet' must enhance mind, body and spirit. Think about diets you've tried or most people's diets out there, it only focuses on the body and because it's rooted in faulty thinking, usually it harms the body in terms of metabolic damage. Diets can temporarily solve one issue (weight loss) by creating a far bigger issue, which will certainly lead to more weight gain (metabolic damage). In today's episode, I give you some different ideas to think about and the benefits I've discovered with the Panda Diet in terms of my mind, my body and my spirit. If you've spent years — or decades — starting diets on Monday, feeling "good" or "bad" based on what you ate, or letting the scale decide your mood for the day… this episode is a deep breath of fresh air. In this powerful Tea & Truth conversation, Lynne invites you to gently step out of diet culture and into a new way of relating to food, your body, and your midlife health: nourish, don't punish. You'll learn why strict dieting backfires in midlife (especially with shifting hormones), how it impacts your metabolism, mood, cravings, and self-worth — and what it looks like to support your body with kind, steady, hormone-friendly nourishment instead of restriction and shame. This isn't about giving up on your health. It's about finally choosing approaches that actually work for women in perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.
Why do so many people quit their New Year's health goals—sometimes in just weeks? In this milestone 700th episode of The Exam Room Podcast, Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Neal Barnard to explain why lasting health has nothing to do with willpower—and everything to do with motivation. This conversation goes far beyond weight loss. You'll learn how a low-fat, plant-based diet can: • Improve digestion and hormone balance • Reduce joint pain, migraines, and inflammation • Save hundreds of dollars each year • Protect animals and the environment • Improve long-term health and athletic performance Dr. Barnard also shares unforgettable real-world stories from his research and personal life that reveal why understanding why you eat is the key to staying healthy for life.
