In our latest podcast episode, Dr. Izabella Wentz, pharmacist and leading expert in thyroid and autoimmune disorders, breaks down why thyroid disorders—especially Hashimoto's—are often misunderstood and improperly managed. Rather than viewing thyroid dysfunction as an isolated gland issue, she presents a systems-based framework centered on autoimmunity, gut health, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental triggers. Listeners will learn why conventional treatment frequently falls short, how to identify underlying drivers of thyroid dysfunction, and what practical, evidence-informed strategies can restore energy, metabolism, and immune balance. Key takeaways: Hashimoto's disease is an autoimmune disorder that targets the thyroid gland, making it crucial to address immune dysfunction alongside thyroid hormone imbalances. Key lifestyle changes, such as balancing blood sugar and reducing stress, are essential for managing thyroid health and preventing autoimmune flares. Gluten and dairy are significant dietary triggers that can exacerbate thyroid-related symptoms and should be eliminated for optimal health outcomes. Supporting gut health through targeted interventions can drastically improve thyroid functionality and reduce autoimmune responses. Personalized diagnostics and liver detoxification play a vital role in optimizing thyroid health and managing autoimmune thyroid conditions effectively.   More About Dr. Izabella Wentz: Dr. Izabella Wentz, PharmD, FASCP, is a clinical pharmacist, New York Times bestselling author, and internationally recognized expert in thyroid health and autoimmunity. Known as the "Thyroid Pharmacist," she specializes in uncovering the root causes of Hashimoto's thyroiditis and related chronic conditions. After her own diagnosis in 2009, she developed evidence-based lifestyle and nutrition protocols that have helped hundreds of thousands of people worldwide restore their health. She is the author of multiple bestselling books and host of the Thyroid Pharmacist Healing Conversations podcast.     Website Instagram Connect with me! Website Instagram Facebook YouTube

She is a PharmD, an internationally acclaimed thyroid specialist, and a licensed pharmacist who has dedicated her career to addressing the root causes of autoimmune thyroid disease. She is also the author of three books. Her most recent book is The Adrenal Transformation Protocol. Dr. Wentz joins me to dive into how to identify what is going on with our adrenal health and why adrenal issues tend to occur along with thyroid issues. Symptoms of adrenal dysfunction (other than chronic fatigue). How does sleep apnea tie to Hashimoto's and mitochondrial health? Lifestyle factors that may contribute to adrenal fatigue. Adaptogens and supplements that can assist in balancing cortisol levels. How to know when to cut back on exercise. Dr. Izabella Wentz, Pharm.D., FASCP is a passionate, innovative and solution focused clinical pharmacist. She has had a passion for health care from a very early age, inspired by her mother, Dr. Marta Nowosadzka, MD.  Fascinated by science and the impact of substances on the human body, Izabella decided to pursue a degree in pharmacy with a dream of one day finding a cure for a disease. An avid learner and goal-oriented student, she received the PharmD. Degree (Doctor of Pharmacy) from the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy at the age of 23.  Dr. Wentz is trained in functional medicine through The Institute for Functional Medicine, Kalish Functional Medicine, and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and holds certifications in Medication Therapy Management as well as Advanced Diabetes Care through the American Pharmacists Association. In 2013, she received the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Illinois Pharmacists Association.  During her time as a consultant pharmacist, Dr. Wentz worked as part of an interdisciplinary team consulting on thousands of complicated patient cases, often caused by rare disorders. She was regarded as an expert in clinical pharmacology and would be called upon to investigate cause and effect by performing comprehensive medication therapy reviews in an effort to help identify and resolve adverse drug events. She quickly became adept at finding and evaluating emerging research to help address her clients' unique challenges. Although trained as a pharmacist, she was an ardent champion for lifestyle interventions, which often helped patients much more than any medications ever had.  Later in her career, she was given the opportunity to lead a statewide medication safety initiative, transitioning to a career in medication safety and health care quality improvement. There, she developed an expertise for the whole systems approach, rapid tests of small change, outcomes tracking and root cause analysis.  After being diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in 2009, Dr. Wentz was surprised at the lack of knowledge about lifestyle interventions for Hashimoto's, hypothyroidism, and autoimmune conditions. She decided to take on the development of lifestyle interventions as her personal mission in an effort to help heal herself and others with Hashimoto's.  Connect with Erin:https://heartwinghealing.com/ Connect with Izabella: https://thyroidpharmacist.com
